Brought this for my son’s 2nd birthday and its great value. Comes with a soft cat and dog for the ‘vet’ to take care of. Has a good doctors kit, with stethoscope, injection, thermometer, ear inspection, tweezers and pincers, as well as bottles and jars for pretend medicines, bandages and even a cone of shame. Everything a vet would need. My son loved it and brings it to me every day so that we can check the little dog and cat together.

My children, 4 and 7 years old, have had such a good time playing with this vet play set. The simple genius is the inclusion of the soft toys, which sets this set part from most doctor/vet play sets. The soft toys encourage pretend play and my kids have been patching up these two toys in various ways for days and inventing new illnesses – it is like a new episode of Casualty every ten minutes!

My daughters have played Doctors quite a bit with the usual bandages, scissors, stethoscope, syringe etc, but this set is for vets and features two lovely soft toys. I think it makes a great gift and will be really enjoyed (you can be a doctor or vet of course, but the extra stuffed toys adds an extra dimension). The toys are child-safe (eg. eyes are stitched) and the build quality seems good.
I have always been impressed by Melissa & Doug toys and this set is certainly not a disappointment. Nicely boxed, you have lots of play pieces, including two animal patients (a plush dog and cat) which means it is perfect for two children to play with at once.
As well as the two animals, there is a stethoscope, thermometer, syringe, ear scope, tongue depressor, three bottles, a tube (of pretend cream) tub with lid, reusable checklist, a storage tote, bandages, cast, paw clamp, recovery cone and tweezers.
I was pleased that the plush toys are of a good size, and good quality, as are the play pieces. Excellent for imaginative play and very good if you wish to encourage sharing.
Lovely little PetVet playset from trusted brand Melissa & Doug. As I’m familiar with Melissa & Doug more often making wooden toys I was a bit surprised to see that this set was all made from plastic but the quality is great. There are 24 pieces in the box and include accessories like medicine pots, stethoscope, scissors fabric plaster, thermometer, tweezers etc. It also includes a small fabric holdall bag. I couldn’t actually fit all the contents into the bag though which is a shame. They should have made it a fraction bigger to get all the contents in. My favourite bit of this play set is the cone of shame!! It fastens with velcro and fits on the gorgeous little soft toys included (a cat and a dog) It’s so cute and it’s too small to fit on a child so don’t worry about your kids trying it on!. It was such a lovely surprise that the toys are included because normally with these sets you don’t get the main toys with it! The soft toys are lovely and really good quality too. So really it’s fantastic value for money. My toddler has been playing with this set for hours and hours and then we took it to a playgroup and all the kids played with it for hours. There are no batteries needed and all play is only limited by your imagination. The contents of this set are quite similar to what you might see in a doctor’s set so if you wanted something a bit different I would choose this one. Melissa & Dough have also created the Petcare playset in the same range. You really don’t need them both although my daughter has enjoyed both sets and has mixed them up together for extended play value.
Similar in style and design to another recent Melissa & Doug pet-care set, this box comes complete with cuddly dog, cat and all the accessories you could want to diagnose their ailments, including stethoscope, ointment and a handy bag to keep it all in.
Melissa & Doug very rarely disappoint. This set is good quality, with robust and durable vet accessories that will last well and are designed with small hands in mind, so that dexterity is no impediment to enjoyment. Really, this is an excellent play set. The only reason that you might have second thoughts is if you already own a very similar doctor’s set or something else with a lot of crossover – otherwise, you’d be hard pressed to find a small child that wouldn’t enjoy this.
This is a fairly standard and unremarkable “vets kit” that will go down well with non-boisterous kids around three years old. The plastic bits, which make up most of the set, are basically the same as you get in a toy doctor’s kit- stethoscope, syringes and so on- and it’s just a few of the details and stickers that make it ‘for animals’ instead of ‘for people’.
The extra bits are the two plush animals, and the bag. The plushes themselves aren’t particularly good quality, which surprised me for Melissa & Doug, and they certainly feel fairly small and ordinary- but the plastic cone that optionally goes around their neck is a nice detail, even if it does raise the interesting challenge of trying to explain to a three-year-old what that cone is actually for. The bag, however, is fairly decent and could even find a useful life beyond that of the rest of the set, but only really for play purposes, it’s not going to do much in real-world use.
The vet kit or doctor’s kit is a classic and it feels almost obligatory that every child should have one so they can go through the traditional let’s-pretend phase with it. If you’re not fussed about the plushes then you could certainly get a cheaper set, but if it’s a present for a loved child and money’s no object then go for it.
Personally I think this is a little overpriced but I`m sure there will be an offer sometime .
My granddaughters and I like a challenge, and we were determined to fit as much as possible in the vet’s bag; the plush dog and cat will fit in the pocket,and everything else except the jar of ointment and the recovery cone we managed to get in the bag itself. We all had loads of fun with this lovely play set; the girls are twins and they were delighted to get a “patient” each,and everything was included to aid the ailing pets’ recovery. Brilliant,we love it.
Very cute set. Love the cat and dog plush animals. There are lots of accessories which gives kids hours of entertainment. The cone for the dog is great the kids got a kick out of the puppy having a cone. We have spent many hours fixing the plush dog and cat and my 3 year old has decided to try to fix everything she can including our dog and cat. The older kids play with it too and seem to enjoy it.
The packaging is good. The set isn’t at all over-packaged – most items are packed loose inside the box, whilst a few are held in place with a cardboard frame. Barring a couple of little pieces of tape securing the ends of the box, there isn’t a scrap of single use plastic.
I can’t wait to give this to the recipient. Bought as a gift. Looks great. Lots of learning opportunities through play to be had.
This was a great additional to our children’s play room.
The set itself is exceedingly cute so instantly brought a smile to our children’s faces. It comes with a lot of accessories, that are all safe and high quality. The “patients” are super soft and cute, and also designed with safety in mind. There are no small parts that can be removed or swallowed.
The overall look and message is positive, stimulating children to think about medicine, health, taking care of animals and much more. You can never go wrong with toys like these, that will outlast their childhood years and easily become a hand-me-down.
As with the rest of the Melissa & Doug products, this is another great, creative and fun set for children, especially if there is a pet in the house.

Several Melissa & Doug playsets have entered the household and they’re typically of excellent quality. This one is almost on par, but not quite. The set is currently priced at $34.99 which to me feels about $5 too much, but it’s a really cute set for any kids who love animals. A stuffed dog and cat come included as “patients” and there are a few corresponding vet-related tools. It’s a nice set overall but perhaps a tad high on price and a little lower quality (thickness of plastic) than other similar sets. But this Melissa & Doug Pet Vet Set is still pretty darned cute.
I must admit, I was unaware of the Melissa and Doug brand until my grandchildren arrived. I’ve purchased many of their toys and games now and their name has become synonymous with quality, educational toys that will last.
My wee granddaughter drags her stuffed pup pup with her everywhere she goes. I thought she might enjoy the Melissa and Doug Pet Vet Play Set.
The set comes with a nice sized stuffed dog and cat. I was happy to see stitched eyes for safety. They both have happy faces and will appeal to small ones.
The set comes with 24 pieces! The vet’s bag has everything a budding vet would need to give a dog or cat a check up or treat an ouchy. Medicine bottles, cream and lotion containers all feature pictographs that make it very easy to determine who and what they are for. Syringe, ear scope, paw clamp, a cast for injured paws, a thermometer, bandages, tweezers, stethoscope and a few more. There’s a reusable chart that can be wiped clean after each check up. Again with both sides featuring pictographs. I laughed when I saw a neck cone was included as well. The pieces are made of plastic that feels and looks very durable – it will definitely stand up to dropping and banging.The pieces are just the right size for small hands.
Well, did she have fun with this! Having been to the doctor herself, she dived right into doing checkups on both stuffies. Every piece had to be used for each animal. Gramma got to play assistant and got a check up too.
Bells and whistles toys have their place and also their limitations. With this set, there are no limits. Imaginative play is the word of the day with this set. Great quality and play value. Excellent!
Melissa & Doug never disappoint. This is a great playset for a budding caregiver. You get two cute little stuffies that need special care, and a variety of doctor’s tools to determine what’s wrong and fix up.
The components are a small step down from the playskool set, being slighter thinner plastic and more of a solid colour, but they’re good quality overall.
I adore these Melissa and Doug sets. My granddaughter absolutely loved the travel one and now there’s veterinary one she’s got all the pieces together she absolutely plays with it for hours and hours on end. The toys are very plush and she even takes him to bed with her at night. The whole concept of the little dogs is just adorable.
This is a great set that really allows the little ones to play vet with the included two doggy and kitty. The two plushies are soft but still compact; the medical instruments are of very good quality; specially the stethoscope being significantly more robust when compared against other similar sets.
As with another Melissa & Doug set, I take a slight issue with their advertised item counts; (a medicine bottle with cap should count as a single item IMO) but otherwise this is a great playset especially for the pet lovers out there.
The cuteness factor of the vet play set is huge. It was love at first sight for my kids! I’m very pleased with the quality of the little stuffy dog and cat. There is also such wonderful detail in the accessories. I really like the gender neutral colour scheme as well! I like that there is a storage bag so all the accessories don’t end up everywhere. The little velcro bandage, cast and cone are the favorites amongst my children. I love seeing my children using their imagination. Sometimes all the lights and batteries ruin the potential for great imaginative play. This set is simple and battery free and my kids are loving it!
My son is turning 6 soon. My wife and I made him a deal; he could have this set if he donated some of his older toys, and so he did. He was soon tearing into the box. He played with it all night and in the morning before school. He loves the two plush toys (a cat and a dog) and he likes to check off all the items on the included reusable checklist (pencil and eraser not included). I played with him with it for an hour myself, and while I don’t really enjoy playing with children’s toys, it’s important to him and I love him to bits, so, it happens from time to time, haha. Anyhow, the coolest thing about this is that there is a plastic cone that can fit around the plush dog’s neck – which is timely, as our dog just got fixed and also is currently wearing a cone. All of the parts are quality and there’s a good variety included. Will my boy become a vet when he’s older? Who knows, but for now, he’s happy pretending to be one.
Super cute and fun set. I love the two stuffed animals, all the instruments make taking “care” of the animals fun and great for toddlers that love animals. Comes with a variety of different tools, a toy bandaid, pliers, stethoscope, cream and ointment containers, a syringe, etc.
Good price for the set. This would be a fantastic toy for any children who love animals and have an interest in caring for them.
