We installed this in a wall and apparently needed another piece of plastic to do that. We made our own mounting plate from plywood instead and all is well.

I have had this model before and bought this one to replace the first due to it being over 6 years old and finally died on me.

Great cat flap a bit fiddly getting the 2 self tapping screws to join the other side of the cat flap but it’s now fitted and works a dream!

We had to have specially made 3 double glazed glass panels with hole cut out to accommodate these cat flaps. They are easy to install and operate. Our three Bengals use them daily and it is comforting to know that only out cats can get into the house. We can tell which cat is entering or leaving the house just by listening to the noise from the fish as they have three distinctive methods of going in and out. Highly recommended.

We had to use six additional segments of tunnel for our cat flap installation through a cavity wall. With that number of segments, the tunnel assembly was difficult to line up because of its lack of rigidity – flexing both axially and laterally. Once achieved, the final outcome is fine.

Original extension cracked due to age, so this was a straight forward like for like replacement.

I had a mains-powered microchip-recognising catflap in our old house, and it worked really well for about 5 years. So when we moved house in February 2021 I immediately ordered the same catflap for our new house. Unfortunately because of Covid-blah-excuses we had to wait until January 2022 for a window company to eventually get around to fitting a new door in our house, and in the meantime we had to act as door-opening flunkeys for our cat. But when the catflap was finally installed in the new door, it didn’t work.

With most other companies, if you ordered something from them and discovered nearly a whole year later that the product didn’t work, they would just say it was tough luck, and you should have contacted them within X days of purchase. So even though I checked my Amazon order records and found that there was a “product life support” link with a freephone phone number on it (as noted above in a previous review/answer from 2016), I really wasn’t optimistic about getting any help. And even when I did ring the number I was expecting to be put through to some automated system and then be on hold for maybe an hour. What happened instead was a complete surprise. I was immediately put through to a real person, who was able to diagnose the fault straight away, and they then arranged to send me a replacement unit … because this product comes with a 3-YEAR limited warranty. They also emailed me a workaround solution to try to get the catflap working while I’m waiting for the new unit to arrive.

So overall it’s a shame that the original unit didn’t work, but I am 100% satisfied by the customer service and the outcome of my call. This company could show all other companies how to run their customer services. In fact, they could show most other organisations (including governments) how to provide customer support. In fact, based on the way things have been going in the world in general for the last couple of years, I would be happy for them to run the whole planet.

On a slightly less enthusiastic note, I do agree with some of the previous reviews that you really do need to keep the instruction book handy because the ‘simple’ 2-button interface requires some very complicated combinations of actions in order to switch to different modes, so it it is the opposite of an intuitive design. But I like to imagine that PetSafe are going to develop a mobile phone app or an Alexa skill or something, so that one day it will be much easier to program the catflap or to check its current status.

THANK YOOOOOU PetSafe – what a refreshing change it was to actually speak to a real live human being and to explain the problem to someone who understood it and could fix the situation.

(Yes, in the meantime another neighbourhood cat has been into my kitchen to use it as a toilet, but that just shows how useful the new catflap will be when it does work.)

My elderly cat could open the flap but did not keep pushing to open it properly and use it. She used it for a time with the flap fixed open then the seller kindly let me have a replacement cat flap and this time the cat managed it. Now she is in and out without any problems. I am very grateful to have had a replacement sent to me.

I used to have a problem with a Ginger Tom forcing it’s way through two catflaps into my house to harass my two females. My cat flaps were the type which are activated by a doobry on the cats’ collars.
I’d arrive home from work, open the door, to be met by the unmistakeable stench of male cat spray. 🙁
The issue was that regardless of whether the cat flaps were locked or not, the tom cat would literally smash his way in / out. Whilst those more basic cat flaps may seem cheaper at 20-30, by the time you’ve replaced them a few times, the cost starts to add up. I fitted the Pet Porte… and like that, the intrusions stopped. Never happened again. Money well spent. House doesn’t smell of wee anymore, cats are much happier.

Best microchip catflap, gives peace of mind with its reliability to let your cats in and out, and not let neighbours’ cats in. Lots of optional features on timings, easy to programme

This is a best cat flap I have ever owned. I have owned a variety of manual ones, magnetic ones, but this is by far the best. It only allows your cat(s) in (or out) and the mains supply means the battery never needs replacing. Highly recommended if you can afford it.

We have had a Petporte smart flap for microchipped cats for decades now and are on our second one. When we started having trouble with our second one, we called their customer service and had them replace the cable. When it started failing a second time we called again, spoke to Judith, and are being sent a replacement even for an out of warranty product.
All things can end up not working perfectly or break completely but it is how this company deals with problems that is admirable – reachable on the phone, very knowledgeable and helpful! Thank you!

Quite easy to install. It is a bit expensive but the reason I like this one is because mains electricity can be used with battery back up. The canopy is something I had to get used to as it does stick out quite a bit and I kept knocking it when my door was left open.

The delivery was in good time. I was a little disappointed with the mounting clips the screws went into. The metal is weaker than the original and it broke when trying to install it. We had to remove the clips from the old one to be able to complete the installation. There is a previous weakness with the design where the scanning module weighed down and it cracked at the screw point over a number of years, the plastic integrity degrades over time. This cannot be helped due to direct sunlight. Hubby added reinforcing so that it would not happen with the new one.

Bought to replace one of the same model which was starting to fail after 7 years – it wouldn’t always read my cats microchip but I like the model as the mains power means you aren’t constantly replacing batteries or unexpectedly locking the cat out, and the timer function that automatically locks her in overnight (the light level doesn’t work well for me). This one was a straight swap, easy to fit but best to have a helper to hold the half on the outside of the window/door while you get the bolts done up to connect them.

The primary reason for purchasing this was that another cat was coming in and marking our conservatory as his territory. This was stressful for my cat. It was easy to install and there was a positive change in my cat (once he was used to the beep) after a couple of days . The unit is really strong, easy to keep clean and has worked perfectly. My cat is safe from intruders.

We’ve had one of these before and lasted 7 years, which included a move of house. The last unit was hit by a basketball and broke the chip reader (this was already cracked btw), but with a bit of gaffer tape was still working fine! However, decided it wasn’t a great look so bought a new one. They look great, cats find them very easy to use once you have gotten through the trauma of registering their chips!! Probably a bit more expensive than others out there, but worth the money and very easy to fit.

These seem to die after a few years. But with the overhanging porch they detect the microchip better than another brand I tried so I’m persisting. The light sensor keeps the cat in when it gets dark. The microchip sensor keeps it locked from other neighbourhood cats. Used to come in brown colour also but now only white.

Our cat flap is through a thick wall and the electrics were not quite long enough. Cats still having a problem triggering their chip.

This is the third microchip cat flap I have installed in the last month (thanks to Amazon for refunding the two that didn’t work), this one actually works !!! We are so happy with it. We have a double glazed door with a 215 mm cut out. The aluminium strip used by the glaziers to seal the door, prevented the first two from working. This one works for two reasons 1) the scanner is positioned on the outside 2) it is mains powered. I agree that the installation instructions are over complicated. Screwfix do some neat plastic D shape trunking for hiding/protecting the cable. No more unwelcome visitors. 5 stars.

Very good product , it depends how cooperative your cats are to get them through the cat flap to register their micro chip. But once done works well. It does seem over priced as cheaper types on the market. My first one I programmed in locking at night and opening morning time. My 2 siamese didn’t like to be kept in so they ripped it out of the wall somehow! I phoned the company who sent me a new one for free, although it was 1 day out of the year guarantee.
My second has lasted 5 years until a solenoid died which is not replaceable. The company help line is fantastic and talk you through the problem you are having. They have a very good knowledge of the cat flap and always have sorted out my queries. I would recommend this company.

  23. Sam Moore says:

     United Kingdom

This is a replacement unit for one that has worked for years and has always been able to detect my cat. Unfortunately one of the solenoids failed so I had to purchase a replacement. While the documentation confirms that my cat’s chip’s serial number is still supported it does not detect my cat, rendering it completely useless.
I have contacted the seller and will see what sort of response I get. I suspect that the unit will have to be returned.
Update: Petsafe asked about the power adapter that had been supplied – it was a black one and these have had issues. I was requested to try to set it up again using only battery and this time it detected my cat’s chip immediately. I reported this back to PetSafe and they have shipped a new (white) power adapter. I suspect the black one it underpowered.
So yes, I had a problem but it was resolved quickly and efficiently. I have no complaints and would recommend this product unreservedly.

This was a like for like replacement for a 2011 version of a Petport that had been brilliant until it gave up the ghost a few weeks back.
The 2020 version is all but identical and fitted perfectly into the existing cut out in the door.
We had thought about not replacing the defunct unit as there did not appear to be many “other” cats in neighbourhood. Our views changed rapidly when there was a casual visitor in the house late evening.
We have just loved the fact this design of product does not need the cat to wear a collar. If as a responsible owner you have had your cat microchipped it simply reads such and your cat has in effect its own key.
Facility for lock in / lock out. Locked through hours of darkness etc. Optional battery back up facility in event of power interruption – unit will however operate without battery on a mains supply.
First variant of this petport fitted around 2000. They seem to last around seven years or so. We had one that lasted only a couple of years but although out of guarantee was replaced free of charge. The box of latest does indicate a three year warranty – have not looked at full wording.
In my opinion a brilliant product if you have a cat and want a cat flap.

This is the second one of these I have had, same hole in door!
First one was excellent must have lasted about 10 Years. Worked well with microchip installed in Cats.
Worked not so well towards end. Cats being left outside in cold/Wet.
New current Cat flap only managed to get it working properly with Pet Safe collar Tags attached to Flee collar.
    now working very well.
For this cat flap to work well, you need a good Battery and mains power. The battery can start corroding and should be changed at least every 6 Months. More often if cold or wet. Any problems at all change this first.
I have a metal front door witch it works well in . other Cat flaps may not work at all in a metal doors.

Bought to replace our old one same brand which was at least 5 years old and just needed to be replaced,,,, Fab product,,, cat was a bit of a knob and wouldn’t use it for a bit,, guess was cause just new so for ages I didn’t know if I programed it correctly,, but when the ginger ninja finally pushed his chunky frame thought I knew all was well,,, Bit of a cost as I tried to get cheaper ones but dimensions wouldn’t be good, so I stuck to this brand and I guess the saying get what you pay for is true,, as yes a bit of money to shell out but if it lasts as long as last one it’s nothing in Long ru

This is our 2nd of these as we are rebuilding our kitchen and the last one got damaged by the workmen. They work perfectly and keep our cat in / out when we want. Love the light sensitive feature so it locks when it begins to get dark which is better than a fixed timer setting. Only negative is that our cat can’t tell when it’s locked or not at night so spends time bashing away at the clear door until we block it. Though that’s probably a issue whatever we use. Some kind of fold-over cover to hide the door might be handy – I might end up making something to do that myself though. Well worth paying a little more for this good quality design.

his was brought to replace one that had been fitted for 7years which had been damaged by daughters Husky trying to get his head in the door and chewing the porch.. I installed it ok was it was a direct replacment, but it would not register my cat. I plugged in the old porch and it still would not register. This had started to bug me as a electronic service engineer (ret). I removed the psu and found a PP9 battery. with the old porch I managed to get it to register ok. looking at the difference between the psu supplied with the new new one to the one that was 7 years old there was a slight difference in the output amperage. Using the new psu and a PP9 it unlocked when my cat finally came in. other than that it was a good installation. this is a good strong unit unless you get a husky try to put his head through it, by the way daughter is banned bringing her dog, no more hair….yipppppeeeee.

Pretty happy with this product, although it took a second one for it to work right. The first one they sent had an issue that the flap kept getting stuck in the open position and any cat could come in to the house. Second one is working now for months with no issues. Relatively easy to install but kinda fiddly. Overall very happy.

They don’t keep you holding and after they tried one fix for the problem they actually called ME to see if it was working!!! Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have used this type of Cat Flap for several years but unfortunately, the reader part had given up. It works brilliantly though and as I don’t like collars on cats, it works with the microchip. This one plugs into an electrical socket with a back-up battery. The new type work only by battery which is not as good. I would have preferred it in brown (as per my original) as my door is brown but it is only manufactured in white now.

So far it works fine but I haven’t had need to deal with the ‘bells and whistles’ that come with it except for immediately switching off the bleep that appartently tells you when the cats come and go. Personnally I don’t need to know that fact because it’s self evident to me whether they’re in or not and when you have several cats coming and going many, many, many times a day and night you don’t want to be told again and again and again!. Can’t tell you how loud it was because didn’t wait to listen to it, but what I can tell you is the mechanism still clunks loudly when they come and go and when they sit outside the door it clunks and clunks and clunks until they move, it drives me crazy and wakes me up (I am in a flat though), but still better than the local toms coming in and spraying. The instructions were clear and found it straight forward to fit and scan the cats microchips in (went in exsisting hole in door). However the process of all the different options for me is complicated and hard to remember so I tend not to use any but if I did I would have to use the instructions – I’m not the brightest but I think alot of other people would have to as well. I do love that it is powered by electricity (with battery back-up) – that’s why I picked it because my previous battery one was using 4 batteries a week at the end and it was only between 12-18 months old. The way my door is and the location of the plug works well; make sure you plan out beforehand if having a wired cat flap will work where you want it. I do think for what it is it is overpriced maybe nearer 90 would be better (luckily I had a voucher so didn’t pay full price), but I understand why it is more expensive than other microchip cat flaps with a knob that you flick or turn; this one is all electronic – press this for xxx seconds then press this xxx times. All this said I am not unhappy with it and if it wasn’t for the clunking noise everytime one of my cats go near/through it I would be totally happy with it despite the more complicated programming and the price. I think for most people a normal microchip cat flap is sufficient if you’re happy replacing batteries and you don’t need the ‘night’ or ‘timer’ modes. The delivery was good from this supplier via Amazon, Equestrian Performance I think they were called.

Excellent cat flap. I haven’t given it 5 stars because the manual is a bit confusing, 2 buttons to programme several options. But once you get the hang of it it’s great. I particularly like the night setting which allows your cat the freedom to go in/out during daylight hours but locks from the inside preventing them going out after dark and keeping them safe. I have mine fitted in a small double glazed window, which I had professionally cut, and wasn’t expensive to do. I have also kept the window that was removed so it can be put back in if I move house, or don’t need the flap anymore. I don’t know why some people get them cut through a door, as you would have to replace a whole door if the cat flap was no longer required. This is the second cat flap I’ve had, the first one lasted 8 years. I would recommend.

I have two of these doors, one from 2012 and one from 2015, both still work as well as the day I bought them. One of the catflap is in my bedroom door, this is to allow my female cat a bolthole to get away from my nightmare tomcat, I originally fitted the main rival microchip catflap, but my tomcat successfully broke though this. The Petporte is reliable, and in my opinion tamperproof.

It’s really really good that it only lets our cat in and out! It’s just really confusing to change the settings on the flap with the instruction booklet! Lots of button pressing and holding and beeping. Top tip: we had ours set to something where it beeped every time- our poor cat freaked out and wouldn’t use the flap then even though he manually used his other one for years! Anyway, top tip, turn all the beeps off before you let your cat use it! It took MONTHS to re-train him. Trust me, turn them sharp loud beeps off!! Also, fit it with the extension electricity cable rather than just batteries incase the batteries die or your cat could get stuck out/in!
