An excellent projector and the auto focus and keystone worked extremely well. I was particularly impressed how sharp the image was projecting at 150″ and larger. Amazing performance considering the portability and size of the unit.
Well all I can say is it’s more than I expected. When viewing 4k content it really comes into its own and the Dolby speakers are quality. Looking forward to the warmer months so that that I can show it off.
This is one of the best projector I have purchased. I am in media production and love such gadgets.. After lot of research found this and am proud of i
The projector is one the best units I’ve ever had, I have an old 1080p standard projector which I use for gaming upstairs and it’s been good but had its flaws.
This unit works differently it uses laser projection to give the most clear image quality,it has android TV built in so that you can use various android apps and streaming apps like amazon prime or Netflix or in my case shudder.
It has auto screen detection ,and if you walk infront of the unit while it’s on it will automatically dim the laser.
The unit has built in ambient light detection, auto screen positioning , auto focus
The unit has 2 inbuilt speakers which sound great ,it supports dolby audio and movies and games sound superb
The unit is chunky but not heavy to carry so it’s easy to take wherever u need it
The unit has a 1/4 inch screw hole so it can be mounted to a tripod which is good for room positioning
The picture quality is superb, and with the support for hdr 10 it’s amazing, my wife notices a rainbow effect however I don’t see this.
Gaming I’ve used it on my xbox series x and the games look outstanding. Games that really look good are dying light 2 and forza horizon. There was no noticeable lag either which is great.
I also connected it to my desktop pc which I game on and watch most of my 4k movies on which are stored on my synolgy nasty drive and yet again perfect image quality perfect sound and most of all 60hz gaming is outstanding. This now has a permanent place In my bedroom as it removes the need to have a large tv mounted on my wall.
The price tag seems a little high for a projector however as the technology is so good you really have to invest in something future proof. You can buy a cheap projector for 100-200 pound but they have nowhere neat the clarity that this unit has.
My only bad point is that I cannot ceiling mount it but apart from that this is perfect all round
This is the first projector I have owned or used so I have no comparison to describe this device, from opening the box to the finished setup and use has been a very exciting experience, I have been using now for some days and I must say I am very impressed and we now use the projector for all our viewing.
The packaging is very nicely done, the projector itself is a premium build and looks the part solid and heavy unit with touch controls on the top and a nice big fat handle to carry around, it comes with a remote, instructions, power cable and Nebula streaming device, setup was very easy, the first time I used it I projected it on a white wall and placed projector about nine feet away and when it turned on it works out screen size and focus automatically as if by magic.
Follow on screen instructions connect to wireless and away you go, the image even on a wall was just amazing, it will work in daylight but in a darkened room its so much better a beautiful rich image, we now have a projector screen, it was a little harder setting the image to fit the screen but not to bad but once set its all good, the remote works quick and has voice control that works well also, so much more I could say and so much I might have missed but you get the idea I like it a lot.
Amazed with this unit its like bringing the cinema home.
This is the Anker NEBULA Cosmos Laser 4K Projector, one of the best compact projectors out there, and an item that would not disappoint you in any way. Below I share my review of this projector in detail. I already spent a week testing it and there is a lot to unpack.
Design:
The word ‘compact’ or ‘portable’ can be misleading for some. This projector’s weight is 4.84kg. For many people this might seem a lot, but considering the performance and the form factor, I would say it is worth the hassle. First, this comes with a dedicated handle, one that allows you to carry it around just like an icebox. Second, it comes with dedicated speakers so you don’t need to take your own. Therefore, I still believe it is quite portable despite the weight.
The form factor is interesting. It looks pretty premium in terms of colours, visual appearance, and design. I like the forward facing area with the projector lamp and sensors, an d I also like the sides with the well-designed speaker holes.
Functionalities:
This projector is not just robust in terms of performance, but equally very smart. It projects at 4K up to 60hz, it comes with Android TV built in, so you don’t need to plug any other device, and it has amazing keystone and autofocus functionality which I find unbelievably useful. The autofocus button is pretty reachable and can be found on the Nebula Connect app as well. That means that if you move the projector around you can easily refocus the screen by pressing the button.
The projector projects from any angle. You don’t want to place it in the middle facing the wall? Fine! The projected image can be easily adjusted from looking sideways to looking centre, all while the projector is on the side. This technology integration is simply amazing, and one that many people would appreciate.
Android TV is very easy and straightforward to set up. It took me minutes to log into my Google account and I was able to stream content shortly after. Of course you get a Play Store where you can download your apps. Netflix comes by default but Now TV isn’t available for some reason.
Picture Quality:
The 4K promise is not an exaggeration. This projector projects an image as wide as 150 inches. This is insanely huge, and you won’t understand how big that is until you try it. I was projecting at 90 inches and I already run out of wall area so I couldn’t use the full 150 inches I can reach.
Image quality is almost like a flagship TV. The only difference is that black are more intense on a TV, and a bit pale on the projector. This is negligible though as the overall picture quality is breathtakingly stunning. If you don’t compare this to a TV simultaneously, then you will be fully satisfied with the image quality.
2400 lumens laser projection is very, and I mean very, high in brightness. I tried this in dark, ambient and light conditions, and in all situations the brightness was satisfactory. Obviously the darker a room is the better but the same would apply to a TV as well.
The colours are quite accurate. The scope of image customisation is also appealing, and you can create a picture profile that suits you most.
Sound:
Dedicated speakers on a projector as capable as this one is an added bonus. You would expect the speakers to disappoint but they don’t! I was really impressed, to the point where I didn’t even think to connect my sound system. The speakers are Dolby Digital Plus compliant and in total account for 30W (2 of 10W speakers and 2 of the 5W speakers). Surround sound is decent, regardless of where you place the projector.
Ports:
This projector packs an auxiliary, an HDMI port, and a USB A port. I find this a bit limited in my opinion and it could have been better if there was an optical entry, a USB C, and HDMI 2.1 support.
Durability:
With 25000 hours lamp promise, this projector, in theory, would last for 41 years if you watch a movie every day. Quite stunning!
Storage:
I am really struggling with the storage of this projector. For a very top-range premium item like this I expected the carry case to be provided along with it. However, there was no case or bag.
What else you may need?
In addition to the carry bag, you may also need to get a tripod where you can place this projector and move it comfortably. Try to find a tripod that carries up to 6 kilograms for ease of mind.
I also attached a video and some images of the projector in use.
Really great. But the brightness is still a bit lacking. So drops from 5star to 3. I can recommend for the price. After 3momths of research and now 2 months of usage this is one of the better in its category.
I bought this to replace an older Nebula projector that simply wasn’t bright enough to be watched in anything other than total darkness.
I wasn’t sure how much of an improvement this, much more expensive, laser version would be.
It’s amazing. In the dark it is absolutely crystal clear. The keystone correction works like a charm and although it does hum to its self its not loud or distracting enough to detract from the movie you are watching.
In daylight it is very good as well, bright sunlight will overwhelm any predominantly dark or night scenes but for general day time TV or sports it’s perfectly adequate.
This is exactly what I wanted in a projector. It is quite large but fits OK onto my bookshelf and gives a very nice sized image at the fairly short distance of 3m.
If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. Yes, it is on the pricier side, but the ease of set up, quality and application to a modern home is unbelievable. This is not just a projector, this is an Android TV, a streaming device all in one exceptionally high quality package. The look and design of the projector is very nice, it is sleek and modern in metallic grey and matte black colours, with a vibrant crimson red around the projector eye; it’s a beautiful looking piece of tech. Its rectangular cuboid design with rounded corners feels like it is designed to be unobtrusive and certainly doesn’t stick out when placed with other tech items. Its general dimens are 26.3cm x 16.5cm x 21.8cm so it isn’t tiny, but I honestly expected it to be much larger than it is. It is also very lightweight so can be easily carried around. My favourite design feature is that the top of the projector is tailored with a handle built in so that it is easily transportable. Set up is incredibly easy and only involves attaching the Android 10.0 memory stick device into the back, setting up wifi and signing into the needed application; all of this is talked through upon set up but the app does provide help if needed.
To break down the nuts and bolts of the image quality, the projector is laser based and features 2400 ISO lumens of brightness. In essence, what this means is that for a projector it is incredibly bright, definitely brighter than any cheaper projector I have had in the past.
I have this set up in my office against a white wall and can attest that it is viewable throughout the entire day, though it has to be said that like any other projector on the market, it does struggle in full sunlight and is best with a bit of shade. The image quality itself is 1080pp and runs at this consistently to provide a clear image.
Everything on the projector can be controlled with the controller provided, Though the Nebula companion app actually has more functionality than the remote that is provided and there are even more easily accessible options, such as manual auto-focus. One of my favourite features is that the app has an amazing live support assistance that I used to work out how to switch between HDMI and Android Tv settings and the service worked perfectly, I was connected to someone via live chat and the issue was addressed in minutes. Though I found you can also have the entire manual for the device (and any other quite frankly) simply through using the search feature which is great for a quick reference. The controller that is provided works as intended, I haven’t been able to fully utilise all of the features to do with google home but everything else works fine, it simply calibrates to your projector on set up and is linked from there on. The only thing I have noticed is that the button to switch between the Android Tv and HDMI mode can sometimes be a little unresponsive and take a few tries, though to be honest, I have started to use my phone as the main controller.
The HDMI port is also just as good an option for projection. I have my PS5 hooked up to this to do casual gaming on and again, the image is exceptional. I was initially worried that the projector would suffer from blurring and hazing around the edges like cheaper projectors can due to the refraction of the projection, but no, everything is crystal clear. At 1080p the projector can keep up with anything that is going on screen without tearing or having any loss of image quality, even on the more graphically driven games. I did try out hooking the HDMI up to my laptop as well and this is the only place I have experienced any lagging and stuttering with the projector, though I believe this could be due to the laptop and projector not being calibrated properly and struggling to communicate more than the projector being at fault as it has worked so well in every other category.
Soundwise, the speaker provided in the feature is competent and provides a nice relatively balanced sound, though probably a bit on the low end frequency-wise for me, it does get loud though without distorting which is good. The only issue with this is that you really have to have the projector in front and centre of you to benefit fully from the sound. Though a handy feature I have found to remedy this is the ability to connect bluetooth devices to the projector. This is not only handy for hooking up to a soundbar or stereo system you may have, but you can also attach headphones to the device which has been handy for late night watching whilst the rest of the house is asleep.
There are also so many small quality of life features that come with this projector that are too numerous to mention. For example, if you step in front of the beam the screen will dim considerably and a safety message will appear, then it will return to normal once the bean is uninterrupted again. Though I do have to mention what is probably the main selling mod-con feature which is the ‘Intelligent Environment Adaption’ (IEA) technology. It basically means that you can point the projector in any direction and the dimensions of the screen will calibrate to auto-fit a perfectly angled screen. This means that if you want to change the angle or move the projector, it will auto-adjust once it is still. Having owned a few projectors before, not having to manually calibrate the dimensions of the border is such an incredible quality of life improvement and I’m still continuously impressed with the feature. Though if you want to make life hard for yourself, the ability to calibrate manually is of course an option.
Honestly, I could continue singing this device’s praises for a long time. I genuinely use it every day and it is my favourite piece of tech in my house. It is a large cost, but if you think along the mindset of also getting a smart TV then this is essentially that, but it can be any size smart TV you want. The very minor issues mentioned in this review really pale into comparison by the things this projector gets more than right. I really couldn’t recommend it enough.
If you are wondering what more a laser projector could bring to the experience of watching TV and films other than the obvious adjustable picture size, all you need to do is watch any Star Wars film that way and the answer becomes obvious. Normal TVs cannot match the way that the lightsaber and laser effects pop out of the screen at you!
The projector unit is not too heavy and it has a solid carry handle, which makes it very portable. If you have wireless internet then all you need to do is move it to somewhere within range and plug it into a power socket. I have a Disney Plus subscription, so I watched the last episode of the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series on it, with the projector providing the sound, and it just lifted the whole experience up so much.
Setting up the projector to your settings and passwords is a one-time thing, so no repeat setup is needed. A software update is needed the first time you ever switch on, and you will occasionally be prompted over time for further downloads to keep the unit or the remote control updated. The system uses Google Android as its base, so once you log in there are a whole range of options available to you, such as YouTube or paid subscription services such as Netflix.
Setting the brightness or volume is easy — you can do it from the top of the unit or by using the included remote control — and I haven’t needed to touch the focus or keystone settings once because the projector automatically sets them for you, which is excellent. You can have the picture quite bright if you want to, which is especially useful if you want to use it out in the garden by projecting it onto a white wall or garage door. Stand in front of it and a message comes up to say: “To protect your eyesight, please keep a distance from the projector”. There is also a blank or colour screensaver you can enable and adjust the timing (with a minimum of 5 minutes), and an auto-off (after a minimum of 30 minutes).
There is a HDMI connection on the unit as well, and that makes it ideal for work purposes. I’ve been using it as a second screen for home working. Most of the time I do not need audio for work; I just need to see the laptop screen and second screen provided by the projector. Therefore, there would be a problem if the Nebula was overly noisy, but it isn’t too loud really and I stopped noticing it quite quickly.
I’m very happy with the projector, but you’re probably wondering if there’s anything I do not like about it that maybe I should tell you. There is one thing I’m worried about, and that is the lack of a lens cover at the front. It’s just open to the risk of being scratched when transported, and this is the sort of projector many people will want to take places. There is no carry case included, so I would advise that you keep the sturdy box it comes in.
I’ve had many AnkerDirect products before, and as soon as I saw this Nebula projector, I knew it would be fantastic. Anker have a brilliant reputation for making high quality, high functionality and premium electronics, and this projector is certainly no exception. It certainly fits the bill as a high-end, immersive experience projector.
The first thing that strikes you out of the box is the exceptional build quality of the projector. The feel is robust, solid yet luxurious at the same time. There are no corners cut, and you can tell. It’s quite weighty, but what can you expect for such an amazing piece of equipment, and was not too heavy in the long run.
The built-in handle allows for quick and easy transportation, which is something that other projectors of sorts lack.
I’d like to talk about the Android TV functionality and general ‘smart’-ness of this projector. I absolutely love the functionality that the OS provides with this projector. Unlike others, which involve serious amounts of cables and messing, this operating system provides all the streaming services that you need built-in. Brilliant. We could actually have this replacing our TV in the future, but we’re thinking about basing our cinema room around this projector instead. It’s truly that good.
The picture quality, although this is only the 1080p version, is crystal. The colours are deep and diverse, with 2400 ISO Lumens bringing all shades to life. It actually looks better than our TV does. It’s so quick and easy to setup too, and if you’re toying as to whether it’ll be a faff to sort out and setup, your worries are no more. This is so easy to use, it’s no different to a normal TV in ease of use, if not easier.
The Auto Keystone Correction is a fantastic feature, and cannot be understated. If, like me, you had no idea what this was beforehand, it’s basically a complete fixer of distortions of images. You’ll never need to tilt your head or switch seats for a better view, the projector does it all for you.
The sound quality is superb, something that other projectors skimp out on. The projector is not as noisy as others, which can sometimes ruin the experience, and the Dolby audio certainly packs a punch.
I’d say the price fits the product. You get what you pay for, and I think this truly is a premium projector at a reasonably acceptable price level. It’s arguable as to whether you need the upgrade to 4K, as in my experience, this 1080p model has been more than enough. Anker’s build quality is sublime, and the built-in features are second-to-none.
I have a 140 projector in the classic style which is very noisy (like sitting next to a jet engine), and has questionable keystone adjustment. So I was excited to try this high end projector. Check out my video review to see the features in real time.
Unpacking
The box looks good, easy to open and the separate box for accessories gives a luxury vibe. It was well packaged with clear instructions which included picture diagrams of what the buttons were on the projector and remote. It came with batteries for the remote (bonus), a power cord for the projector, and an android TV dongle. As the dongle is removable, I’m hoping this means that if the software outstrips the hardware (like some smart TVs have suffered with), you may be able to buy a replacement updated dongle in the future so the life of this projector may be longer than a regular smart TV.
Setting up
After briefly looking at the instructions I opened up the back (easy just slide off) and connected the android TV dongle. Then it was a case of plugging it in and Turing it on. The set up screen gave information on various button and remote features. Then you can either connect to wifi with an android phone or do what I did which was manually input your wifi password (it auto detects the name). After that it installed a few updates and then I was ready to log in using my google account. It asked my if I wanted to download the projector app which I did on my phone- the app is great as it allows you to control the projector like a remote/tracpad. I’m one for watching movies in bed in the dark and having the ability to controlling the projector with my phone rather than digging around in the covers for a remote is a game changer. What I loved is that as it links to your google account it had my app preferences saved from my TV (although still had to log into the apps). The layout of the Home Screen is exactly the same as my Roku TV stick so very user friendly. The remote is responsive and features google assistant so you can simply ask the remote by voice to play your favourite show which is very handy. The projector itself isn’t very loud – akin to a PC tower doing low key stuff (far quieter than my old projector).
Viewer experience
The white is quite white so if you quickly scan the screen with your eyes you do get the rainbow effect. The picture quality is very clear but you do get a little light bleeding. I’m projecting onto a white wall rather than a screen and the picture quality is still sharp. Even with the light and curtains open and the main light on the picture quality was good. It comes with auto focus and auto keystone adjustment which is great as you don’t have to fiddle with hardware set up and placement. This feature also allows you to place the projector on its side or even upside down and the projector will auto adjust. If you’re using a projector screen it is also supposed to sense the edges and auto adjust to the size of the screen. Despite not having a screen it adjusted well to the size of my wall. The laser is powerful and it’s great that if you walk in front of the projector or auto dims and gives you a warning of not to look into the light- just handy if you have little ones. The only down side is that the buttons on the projector are touch rather than physical buttons and the backlight only appears when you touch a button which can be hard to find in the dark. However, I can understand that you wouldn’t want the buttons backlit when engrossed in a movie in the dark.
Conclusion
This is an excellent projector. It offers a high quality viewer experience. It is expensive but on par with similar quality projectors. After my experience with a 140 projector my advice would be don’t cheap out. Treat it as a TV- this is a similar price to a good 60″ and offers an even larger picture which you can use night and day whilst being portable. plus if they release an updated version of the dongle in the future this may mean the lifetime of the projector may outstrip a regular smart TV with android TV built in. The sound quality is good, the auto features are great and it’s very user friendly. This is my new favourite gadget. Highly recommend.
My first projector so have little to compare to but watching beautiful, bright 4k images on a bezel less 110inch screen is incredible. I got this on kickstarter and am very happy with it. However, since it is a new product there are still some software issues, mainly with the remote, that need to be resolved. Eg. I set the remote to control the volume on the unit but it always seems to switch to the soundbar. A little annoying but not enough to not recommend this. At full price though, it is a lot of money for the privilege.
