What’s the difference between the Smart Outdoor Camera and the Smart Outdoor Camera with Siren?

The Smart Outdoor Camera with Siren comes with an alarm – a built-in Outdoor Siren, whereas the Smart Outdoor Camera does not. All the other features of the Outdoor Camera with Siren are included.

How does the surveillance work?

The Outdoor Camera is a highly effective security camera. It keeps a close eye on the outside of your home, both during the day and at night thanks to its 15 metres infrared night vision and its 100° field of view.

How does the Outdoor Camera’s built-in Siren work?

When a person or vehicle enters your property/home, you immediately receive an alert and video on your smartphone. If it’s an intruder, you can scare them away by triggering your security Camera’s alarm through the Netatmo app.

What are the smart notifications sent by the Smart Outdoor Camera?

Infrared night vision, person detected, Car detected, Animal detected, Movement detected, Camera connected, Camera disconnected, Surveillance suspended, Surveillance resumed

Can I customise the alerts of the Camera?

Yes, in the app’s menu for the Netatmo security Camera, you can choose if you want the Camera to:

Record a Full HD video and send an alert

Only record a Full HD video

Do nothing, and ignore the event

Great security camera with clear image day and night. Can limit the field of view to stop unnessessary alerts. Can pickup cars animals and people but we limit ours to people as too many cars getting spotted by the camera!

Really good app for detection and alert system is excellent. Option to store to SD which can automatically upload to cloud drives etc so no monthly costs which is a bonus. Install was easy if you are good with electrics otherwise definitely get an electrician.

Not the easiest to install on uneven stone walls. Once installed it was easy to set up and the picture day or night is very very clear.
We luckily had a access point near to install position so have a great signal. Now I know why my outdoor lights come on at all hours
during the night. I live on a cat highway. With an occasional fox. Also the light is very bright but can be controlled via the app.

Great camera with high quality video, has proved very useful when delivery men are being planks

We have two Hive cameras (indoor and outdoor) and they useless compared to this Netatmo camera.

The motion sensitively is spot on and hasn’t given us any false alerts. Having onboard storage is a great idea although the security of the SD card is a slight concern. The LED light is very bright but can be adjusted if required.

The field of view could be slightly better as could the initial video quality. Not having two-way audio is a downside but not a deal breaker.

I purchased this before leaving my flat empty on a 3 month trip. I wanted to be able to keep an eye on things but didn’t want the cost of a yearly subscription.

    The good:
Picture quality is decent both in daylight and in the dark.
    Good viewing angle.
It’s discreet; I’ve got mine next to a few cylindrical tea boxes in the kitchen and it doesn’t look out of place.
Face recognition works well once trained.
Face recognition works even at several meters distance.
    No subscription.
    Dropbox storage.

    The bad:
Face recognition takes quite a few weeks to train.
Despite recognising my face I always get a “motion alert” before a “welcome home” alert when I arrive home. I get that it might not have recognised me yet but it is still annoying.

    The ugly:
At night a bright red LED shines from the device. This rather undermines it’s not-a-camera styling.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe Netatmo Welcome is a fantastic little home security device. I have owned the Canary in the past and tried the Logitech ones.

The Netatmo fits where everyone else has failed. Whilst it does suffer from reliability issues as per any other home security connected device, it on average does what it needs to.

What sets this device apart is that it doesn’t store the data on the company’s servers. It stores it on an internal micro SD card along with cloud storage on Dropbox for example. This makes consumers feel at ease given all the scandals about companies storing your video data.

The device can get hot when in use during a hot day – as it is continuously monitoring. So don’t put it in a place where it can’t ventilate.

The night vision is great – when it comes on. My first device had an issue with the night vision, so had to get a replacement but the new one works just fine. It comes on when the area is dark and turns off in the light.

You can train the device to start recognising if the movement is animal or nothing, which is a great feature as it learns. I have noticed less notification due to our cat coming into the room. It continues to record as long as there is motion and this is uploaded to the MicroSD and the cloud service you are using. There is no issue with running out of space onboard the machine as it’ll overwrite when it is full. Furthermore, it is easy for you to delete the files on your dropbox if you are running out of space.

The device can recognise faces, though you should not point it where a tv is playing as otherwise it will continuously tell you that there is an unrecognised face.

I note that the automatic proximity sensor is not always accurate. It is supposed to use the phone data to geo tag and tell if you are home or not. There are times when you are home with your phone but it needs to see your face before it determines a user is home or not.

Overall, as this is a fee-less home security device which does what it sets out to do, i rate it 5/5 and would recommend for anyone getting into the home security game.

Update: Having added two small rubber washers either side of the supporting bolts and the camera no longer slips down.

Installation was easy enough, the bracket isn’t the best design though, setup was easy. Cannot really fault that side of things. In use, it’s great but six months down the line and I have two niggles that are really annoying.

Niggle the first: the camera slides down everso slowly over time. Before anyone thinks “you’ve not tightened it up properly”, maybe I haven’t, but I’ve used a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to 7Nm which is way above what a bolt of that size should be torqued down to – at least from what I’ve been able to find. It definitely feels like I’m doing it too tight. The slippage is very gradual, over weeks, but it seems to be a feature? Maybe someone can tell me that I’m not being firm enough? The fix would seem to be a better bracket design, notches maybe?

The second gripe is how alert areas are defined. Why only rectangular areas? Surely the software is analysing the image all the time to detect motion. Where I have it installed it is on an angle both horizontally and vertically, and at the front of the house. So the alerting area really needs to be a triangle for proper coverage, otherwise to get full coverage of my drive/house entrance, I need to create a rectangle shape that spills into the street on the upper corner, meaning any alerting triggers whenever anyone, or a dog, walks down the street. Seems like a small thing to address, but it’d mean that anyone installing at any sort of angle would have full flexibility for defining the alerting area. Also, the behaviour when creating the areas is different between the mobile app and the web site – not a problem, just different.

I have been using these for about 6 months now. The quality is amazing, night vision and video quality in the daylight are equally fantastic. The motion sensor and the AI identifying vehicles, pets and people is very accurate. I love the software and that it takes zoomed in images of the faces too. The cloud storage is completely free, you can use dropbox too or your own ad card. I am also using a Ring doorbell and blink cameras. I have to say the software is the best on this one. I have 2 one for the front one for the back. The other good thing is that a lot of people will not realise this is a CCTV camera.

I have a Netatmo in the house with a Welcome and a Presence. The setup has worked perfectly for a few years. I tried my hardest over two days to connect this additional Presence.
Amazon swapped the item twice. All seemed well setting up each time but the final hurdle was connecting to the internet. I have Plusnet Wi-fi with a BT WholeHome Hub. I was able to change Wi-fi setting to 2.4Ghz as recommended but it wouldn’t work over the two days I tried lasting about 12 hours! I had customer support from Amazon but they were not able to resolve. In the end all units returned.
Very disappointed, not with Amazon but with the failure. I’m very practical, electronics and computing trained.
I now have an ordinary LED floodlight in the rear garden but no security.

A fantastic camera it’s amazing what you can do with it I would definitely recommend one of these if you have any problems they are very quick and faster getting back to you I found at the Wi-Fi was very weak in my home but by adding a Wi-Fi extender by plugging it in not far from the unit was able to get it to work at a very high rate definitely worth every penny

You can set the camera up to ignore animals cars or people by the red zone in the photo

It arrived promptly, and was well packaged. It was super super easy to install, and after a lengthy software update (I thought the camera was malfunctioning) it now works flawlessly and has great night vision too.

It sometimes recognises faces incorrectly, but it is learning and it will take time. At least it recognises it is a face and doesn’t alert you to every movement going on in the room like some cameras.

I love the fact that I don’t have to have a subscription service to use this camera and can link it to my Dropbox account and manage the footage from there.

I like pretty much everything about this camera except the installation. The video makes it look easy, but not if you are up a ladder trying to attach everything. It Really needs two people, one to hold the camera, while the other makes all the connections. The plastic mounting box is quite flimsy and, once a chocolate block connector and some wire is inside, it doesn’t want to sit flat on the wall, so sealing it with silicone is essential. The setup is quite straightforward, and it works with Apple HomeKit, but not with Siri on Apple TV and Home Pod. Hopefully better HomeKit integration will come soon. Apart from the tricky installation it is a great product.

This is a good camera and the light is very bright. The Presence has been reliable so far. It’s a bit of a faf to set up as it will not connect to routers that also use the 5Ghz band and most do! Needs a speaker.

What a great product. My brother purchased one of these 8 months ago and recommended it to me. Easy to install to replace an old exterior light. Just ensure you have a good WiFi signal in the location of proposed installation position. No subscription required unlike most systems.

Very nice quality camera and light. Well packaged with easy to follow instructions. Relatively easy to install, as long as you have some DIY skills, and very simple to set up using the app. I’m using mine via the android app and it works very well. The alerts are prompt, within 5 to 10 seconds of the motion being detected, the IR night vision is very effective as is the motion activated LED light. The picture quality is good and also has the benefit of sound. The app is straightforward and can save files direct to dropbox. I highly recommend this as a subscription free security solution and I’ll be adding to my camera coverage in the future.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve had this product for 3 weeks now and it’s working perfectly. It replaces a simple motion detecting outdide light and even in this capacity it’s an improvement – very bright and clear. The camera is equally effective. It’s at its best in daytime (full colour) mode but at nighttime/infra red (black and white) it gives an adequate image. I receive alerts to my phone and a copy of the video recording on my home NAS (hard drive) whenever a person is detected; for my dogs and other animals/birds I get a video recording but no alert. There have been occasional false alerts when a dog looks vaguely humanoid – but probably less than 5% of the time so not really a problem. I’ve so far never had a person mistaken for an animal and as far as I’m aware I’ve never had a person missed entirely; i.e. all expected movements have been present as expected.

Installation was straightforward with very clear instructions. But a word of warning – read and follow the instructions to avoid disappointment. Don’t cut the cable tie before you’re told to – it’s there for a reason! Also use the supplied protective bag – it looks flimsy but it does the job and stops delicate corners getting damaged during installation.

It’s a bit frustrating that there is no easy way to test the field of view before you actually install the camera as you need a mains supply to get any output from the camera. So consider rigging up a temporary mains feed (live, neutral and earth) to the camera before you drill a hole through your wall just to check it’s in the right place. Be prepared to move the camera if you need to bacause it is important to get it right to avoid unwanted background activity.

The camera automatically records to an internal memory card and sends images to my phone. But it’s obviously much more secure to get the recording onto a remote hard drive so it won’t disappear if the camera is stolen/destroyed – and there are full instructions on how to do this if like me you have a home back-up hard drive (NAS) permanently running. I’m far from a technophile but with a bit of perseverence I’ve managed to get the video feeds to my NAS using FTP. No idea what this means but it works and the videos are there on my hard drive to prove it! Select “settings” on the app and then “cloud strorage”; choose “FTP” and when the app prompts you this is what it needs: – “Hostname” is the IP address of the NAS; “Port” defaults to 21 which worked for me; “User” and “password” are what you use to log on to your NAS; and I set up a directory called Netamo on the NAS and specified that as “Save to”. Note – be careful of capital letters in naming the destination drive as the naming is case sensitive.

So far so good. If it all goes horribly wrong I’ll update this review. But based on my positive experience I’m adding an internal Smart Netamo camera tomorrow. Fingers crossed it’s as good as this external version.

These outdoor Cameras are excellent and have a very good quality images. As these can be synced with drop box – I get all the images uploaded so that can save them for a longer period than the the installed card. The flood light feature is excellent and one can even switch up the light via app to see via the camera. The alert zone feature is a very good concept and you can focus into the areas that need to be vigilant about. The smartphone app is for unlimited users and everyone in the home can have full access and be able to see the live images of the outside of home and receive alerts. Requires a good wifi connection throughout the house.

  34. BetteCheongCheo says:

     United Kingdom

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHow does it work? As most cameras of this type, you connect it to a power supply (recommended to replace an outdoor light fixture) and then connect it to your WiFi (that has an internet connection). It will start transmitting images to the Netatmo servers (through the internet). Download the app on your phone (which again connects to the Netatmo servers through the internet) and see those images from anywhere in the world.

    Why is it the best?
1)Only smart camera with NO subscription fees, most smart cameras like Ring or Nest will need a subscription to either store the images or even access your camera
2)It has internal memory (probably an SD card but not replacable) so if your internet connection is down it will still record events locally and synchronise them with the servers at Netatmo once the internet is back up
3)Even if your camera is damaged or stolen the event was synchronised with the servers at Netatmo
4)If that’s not enough for you, you can also set it up to additionally save images on a local NAS (Network Attached Storage) (if you know what a NAS is then you should have no problems setting it up) so even if its destroyed while the internet is down the images are still there
5)If that’s not enough for you, you can also set it up to save images on your Dropbox

But the best are still to come…
6)Why is it smart? It can actually tell appart humans from animals and cars so you can have it alert you accordingly. Too many alerts are a failure point in most securrity systems as you learn to ignore them. If your Presence says “Person Seen” then a person is standing in front of your camera (and not the shadow of a tree moving as with most cameras)
    7) Extensive alert settings. Customisable alerts such as, record when there are animals, cars and people but only alert me if people are seen between 1900 and 0700
    And…
8)It has a light thats also smart! Unlike a motion sensor light, you can set up the light to turn on only when people are seen, or people and animals or for any motion according to your needs!
    Want more?
9)It also records sounds with all recordings (unlike some other brands that only record sound when you respond to an event). So when you see an event at a later stage with two suspicious characters snooping around you can hear if they said “check if there’s an alarm” or “we are at the wrong address”

    10) If you need to, with a touch of the download icon you can instantly download on your device a video of a specific event and send it where you want through email or any other app you might have on your phone.
11)There’s also live view (that is 4-5 seconds behind because the signal has to travel through the internet as explained above)

Set was easy and straight forward. There is however a live view delay which is quite frustrating if you want to see the feed in real time. Face recognition, once set has so far given no errors. Notifications are prompt. On the downside, I have had to position one of the cameras in a position that is not ideal as it picks up faces from the TV with no apparent way of preventing it. Waiting for the integration with Apple Home kit.

Needed to improve driveway security, this is perfect. The adjustable alert zones, notification times and ability to distinguish intrusions between people, animals and cars all work well together. I would like to be able to set a louder, more continuous alarm sent to the phone than the standard notification for any detected night-time incursions, but that is a only minor criticism.

Pretty easy to wire in and fit to the wall. Well made. You need a pretty decent WiFi signal to connect it. I had to add a booster to extend my WiFi network coverage. Once you’ve got good WiFi the setup is quite easy. The image quality is very good. The alerts come through promptly. The light is bright and the whole unit looks good. The iOS App is easy to use and the Dropbox function is brilliant. No ongoing fees or subscriptions. To make it better I would add the ability to vary the time the light stays on after sensing movement, or the brightness for different detections.

I previously tried a cheap “no-name” security camera from here with equal specs, but it was a real bit of plastic junk. By contrast, Netatmo Welcome is really well made, designed, and packaged, and doesn’t look too out of place in a home. Maybe having a black power cable instead of a white one would make it more discreet.

Positioning the camera is critical, as the face recognition software goes into overdrive if it can see a hint of a TV screen. Apparently Paul McCartney was in my house! I didn’t even offer him a cup of tea.

I’ve since bought a second Welcome to cover my office, and that installed and integrated really easily.

So the Netatmo Welcome is highly recommended.

The only slight negative is that Netatmo has still (2 Sep 2018) not delivered Apple HomeKit support, having originally promised it for early 2018, and then for summer 2018. They’ve had HomeKit support for a while in their exterior security camera (Netatmo Presence) so it is a mystery why it is delayed and delayed for the Netatmo Welcome. Other than that, the accompanying iOS app is very easy to use and I get alerted and can then see when workmen etc arrive when I’m away.

It’s a pretty little thing, is easy to set up, and has a good coverage.

Worth considering where you are going to put it before you buy it, though.
Windows have to be behind it, and it needs to be near a plug. Also needs to face a door, otherwise it’s avoidable.

Works well, great app, good facial recognition and smart alerts.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’m really impressed with this light/camera. If you already have an outdoor light, installing this couldn’t be easier, as it’s a like-for-like replacement. Simply disconnect the old light and connect this one. It took me about 30 minutes to install.

Initial set-up was easy. It found my Wi-Fi and connected to that automatically, once I’d confirmed the network name. It then also identified I had an Apple Homekit set-up, gave me the code and took me through the steps to join Homekit. So within a few minutes, I could view the camera output through both the Netatmo app and Apple Home app.

The final steps are the tweaks to the motion sensor, alerts and light. I reduced the motion sensor area to exclude the road at the end of my front garden, so it only recorded motion in my front garden and driveway. I switched off the alerts completely in the Netatmo app and just used the motion alert in Homekit. Using Homekit allowed me to only be alerted when nobody was at home. I couldn’t see a way of doing that in the Netatmo app (I didn’t want to be alerted when me or my partner were at the front of the house). I also reduced the brightness of the light. At 100% it’s very bright and, being by the front door, would blind approaching callers. So I found around 30-40% was bright enough.

The video quality is okay. It’s not amazing. I used to have a Hikvision 720p camera and I found that sharper. That was wired though. Saying that, the quality is acceptable and you can see faces clearly. Night vision is, again, okay. Not brilliant, but acceptable. It records video to the supplied SD card. I also set it up to copy the recorded videos to my FTP server. You can also set it to upload them to Dropbox.

Overall, it’s a very good security solution that’s easy to install and has been well thought out.

The face recognition works well and is easy to teach, as it simply collates all the unknown faces and ask to confirm if it thinks it someone it knows or set up a new person or reject as not a face.

I was hoping to use with Smartthings as a kind of presence sensor. I think this can be done but the delay in the person arriving and the message being issued is a few seconds to minute so not that good a switch to do an action.

The motion sensor is useless, you cant digitally mask out areas like with most cameras so, if you have a road in top corner you will get lots of false alerts, the same with sunlight through windows, it simply cant face any window as clouds/ direct sunlight triggers a motion. Same as at night moths are attracted to the IR and set it off!

Handy it has a SD card slot so you can save locally and to Dropbox for free so no subscriptions to pay

This does exactly what it says on the box. Value for money in my opinion. You can set an area to alarm if a persons n is seen or car or animal, it can tell the difference. It sends alarms direct to your smartphone and you can view each recorded alarm or a live view, as long as you have a connection to internet. Brillia

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersA very compact and well-finished product that does exactly what it promises. Easy to set up and linked to Wi-Fi. Video quality is excellent, and automatic upload to Dropbox is a boon (and costs nothing, in contrast with the online storage offered by other manufacturers such as Ring). Face recognition works remarkably well, and is very helpful in reducing unnecessary anxiety.
Put 1 of these in your hall — if a burglar manages to get past your external security devices, the Welcome Camera will help minimise or prevent your losses by allowing you to call police, and you can phone neighbours to ask them to make their presence known outside the house (but remember to tell them not to challenge the burglar, of course).
    Strongly recommended.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI’ve bought a number of Netatmo’s products and love the simplicity and capabilities of their products. These cameras are great, deliver very clear 1080p resolution during the day and the IR kicks in in low light to delivery a decent image. You can adjust the resolution through the app if 1080p is too much for your bandwidth to 720p.

Physical installation is slightly fiddly, the bracket is easy to install but when installing the electrics and balancing the lamp a second pair of hands is helpful. My suggestion is they should put film over the lamp shell to protect it from damage when being installed. Once installed its very easy to get it hooked up to your network and account.

The lamp is bright but not quite as powerful as a dedicated 50w LED (2000lm) or a 300w (3500lm) flood lamp that turn night to day, but bright enough to illuminate a good 10 x 10 m area with reasonable light (perhaps around 1000-1500lm)

Mobile application is really simple to use and alerts can be controlled to only notify you of certain events at certain hours. In terms of connectivity hooking it up to dropbox is painless, also from a network security perspective it VPN out thus you do not need to create holes in your firewalls to use the remote software like some of the cheaper DVR style boxes.

I was a bit disappointed that these unlike the Welcome cameras these don’t do face recognition but the object (animal, person, vehicle) recognition is fantastic and like the Welcome indoor range you can train the system when it sometimes gets it wrong. The object recognition is very reliable on the whole.

I’ve got this because I liked the idea of having a security camera and one I can check on while away but hopefully I’ll never need to use it for that reason. There are other handy uses one of which is most useful for me is having the motion sensing but only for a specific zone so my neighbour doesn’t set it off. The dropbox syncing and the upcoming home kit integration are / will be great too.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHad this since November 2016
We put it on the fridge to look straight down the hall right towards the front door. An addition to a standard alarm and not a replacement.
It catches almost any face at the door but sometimes thinks the back of my shirt is a face when i’m in the kitchen- you can train it to be less silly in the app.
Recent addition is a pet sensing feature on android. So we now have a budgie listed under his name !

Night vision is really strong on this, and on balance I like it – but am not paying for Dropbox as I think we are fast becoming a nation of monthly over-subscribers,who forget how much we waste on these clever little money makers.
I’d be tempted by a UK service with all data kept in the UK though.
I got a bigger sd card for it and that was good enough to capture more time.

Nice build, gets warmer if using wifi – but impractical to use Lan cable where we need it to be.

I’d miss it if it we didn’t have it so i think it’s made the home more secure – triggers phone if a smoke alarm goes off too – where ever i am.
Does 1080p over wifi 9/10 times for us

Golden Review Award: 40 From Our UsersIf you have broadband through BT you may have trouble initially. These are the things I did to get it to work (my router is the BT Smart Hub). You may need to google some of the steps, but BT have decent step-by-step guides if you need them.

    1) Disable Smart setup on your hub (log in to your hub to do this).

    2) Run the Netatmo app to set up the camera – this can take 45 mins, don’t be put off if it seems nothing is happening (as long as the floodlight is blinking). It will end saying pairing was successful. Then it will say it can’t connect to your network or something.

    3) Set up a static IP address for the Presence. You do this on your hub (google it). During this process you will see a list of MAC addresses on your network. You will need to know which one belongs to the camera – I think it starts something like ee:70:ee and the last part is the camera’s serial number (found on the box).

    4) On your hub enable port forwarding for the camera (google BT’s guide this) for ports 4500 and 500 (choose UDP)

    5) Back on the app, enter the details.
Your hub (router) should show you what the static IP address for the camera is. (E.g. 192.168.1.xxx)
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router IP address: 192.168.1.254 (for the Smart Hub. Previous versions of the home hub may be different – look on the back of the router or google it).
    Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
    Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4

    Pros
    – The timeline is great. You can tell it to either ignore or include each one of: people/animals/cars/other. So you don’t get hundreds of events every day, a massive plus.
    – You also can see thumbnails of the key part of the video without having to watch it through, which is brilliant. e.g. if it recorded a clip because it saw an animal it will show one or more cropped thumbnails of the animal.
    – Good idea to be wired to directly replace a porch light. Installation is easy if you’re doing this (and I’m not great at DIY)
    – Doubles up as porch light
    – You can control things like the brightness of the light, the parts of the view to monitor or ignore, what to alert you about, just record or completely ignore
    – Free cloud storage (via dropbox) or your own ftp solution
    – No ongoing costs

    Cons:
    – Set-up is a pain for BT customers
    – No weekend customer support
    – Poor documentation and help articles on the website (hence writing the guide above)
    – Expensive (but no ongoing costs, unlike some)
    – Unattractive
    – A few seconds lag in live view despite good signal and fast broadband (but I think this is true of all streaming cameras)

I finally installed the Netatmo Prescence light and sensor looks funky and needs some fiddling with the app to get to work as it should but what a great device does what it says.

I have not tried other units but this does as much as i would expect.
Update I had IT issues which are now resolved, the camera maintains connection and reports in a timely manner.
There is a delay in reporting i imagine is due to your mobile phone coverage.
The only criticism i can level is the mobile notification beep which when you have workmen at the house goes off all the time, being able to change the tone or volume of the notification would be useful.
Camera quality is fabulous as is the sound quality when it records, the light is very bright, it looks modern and not obviously a camera.
All in all i would highly recommend, make sure you can get access to wifi at the point of camera mounting as it connects only with Wifi.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersFirstly, let me state that I love this camera!!

I was looking for a security camera with very particular characteristics:
    a) Something discrete and not overtly obvious (didn’t want criminals to see a security camera and wonder what its protecting)
    b) Internet ready – I want to be able to see what’s going on, especially when I’m off-site, but I don’t want to pay through the nose for it either
    c) Notifications of any activity
    d) Long life – I can’t be dealing with battery swaps, etc, all the time

I tried a couple of other camera systems (one of which was over 3x the price), but they were really poor, disconnecting at inopportune times and generally useless for the sake of security. Reluctantly, I tried this, not expecting much. Wow, was I wrong!!

The camera is hard-wired to your power-supply, there’s no battery, so it’s always on. It’s quite generous in its range of movement so you can position and angle as you wish, and even mount it upside down (the s/w allows you to flip the image). It connects to the internet via wifi – signal is not the strongest, but that can be rectified with a booster nearby.

Once you’ve got it configured and set up, you’re done! It will now detect and monitor for people, cars, animals and other movement with a high degree of accuracy. You can set recording/alert levels for each (you might not want to record cats entering your yard, etc), and you’re given a really nice history of ‘events’ (categorised by type, i.e. people, vehicle, etc) that you can view on your mobile device at your leisure.

The records start a few seconds before the event itself (which suggests to me the camera is always recording, but just saves the recording when an event occurs), and is captured in very high resolution – crystal clear images. And as it doubles as a security light, even recordings at night are quite clear. You’ll also get a series of thumbnails with each event so you can see exactly what happened at a glance instead of remotely viewing the video itself.

There are no further fees, no online storage, etc, required. You pay for the camera, that’s it.

The software is a little clunky, but overall I’m just so impressed with the camera it’s something I’m willing to overlook. And besides, once you’ve set it up, you don’t need to manage it again.

The only real complaint I have is that you have to manage alerts on the camera itself, as opposed to the app on your device. I currently have the camera set to alert whenever a car or person is seen – my wife doesn’t care about the cars and wants to see the animals, but can’t switch the settings otherwise I don’t get the alerts I’m interested in. It would be really awesome if the app was able to filter out the alerts so that individual users can determine what they want to see.

A fun side-effect of having installed it now is seeing how many cats actually enter our yard, and their nocturnal activities whilst we’re asleep

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis camera is easy to install, picture quality is excellent, ability to set alert zones is helpful, cloud/ FTP back-up works well, and so far has been very effective in alerting me to people. However it’s also been too effective in alerting me to my two cats, which it thinks are people, particularly at night. It allows you to give feedback that the cat is not in fact a person but having done that well over 200 times in a month and also having signed up to their product improvement program (which gives them access to all your images so they can fine-tune human/ cat/ animal recognition), it hasn’t made any difference, which is disappointing (normally if a customer informs a provider of a fault 200+ times (multiplied by thousands of other users doing the same), the provider should be expected to rectify the fault).

Overall an excellent camera, definitely needs work on the recognition technology. Having seen the Netatmo forums and Twitter accounts, I would also be very nervous buying this if I wasn’t technically minded. Their support seems pretty bad – perhaps a language barrier.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersWe have been looking for a solution for a considerable amount of time, The new Arlo Pro by Netgear was first choice but with the UK release date not known at the time I was not sure how much longer I can wait. The Netgear as others are moving towards a wireless solution with batteries requiring frequent charging depending on usage, the idea is good but the thought of charging or replace the batteries was starting to put me off.

I was also free conscious of the perception of my neighbours if we installed ‘CCTV’ type camera’s as this can cause problems! So the search began and after months of searching the internet, I stumbled on Netatmo Presence and then the research started.

Like so many reviews on amazon and other websites, you are presented with both good and bad. Considering this is a 249 front door light with a camera the level of risk is amplified in purchasing a product that is as bad as some have made it out to be in these reviews.

My concern was the height of installation, which is just over 1.8 mt and under a ‘porch’ if you could call it that. Having read the reviews and notice that Netatmo recommend 2 – 2.5 mt for best results this weighed heavy on the ‘Click To Buy’ button on amazon.

We purchased the item yesterday the 10th of Feb as the price had dropped to 229 and was delivered by 11:00 am on the 11/02/2017.

    1. Physical installation was very easy, as this involved taking our old light off and putting the new light on.
    2. Setting the camera up could not be easier! download the app and follow the instructions and 5 minutes later it was configured.
    3. Linking to our dropbox account was very simple and was completed in 1-2 minutes.

So why have I given this a 5* rating then?

    1. Simple to install
    2. Simple to configure with app
    3. 1080p video recording is very good and more than acceptable.
    4. Permanent electrical supply, meaning I don’t have to change batteries or recharge every 3-12 months like others.
    5. Accurate notifications and by category when activated.
    6. The unit was smaller than we expected as the pictures are misleading but to be honest it looks perfect and stylish in a strange ‘box’ type of way.

Some people buy this device then complain at the price or the fact it can’t do 2-way audio, it would be wrong to mark down this product based on those facts. If you are honest then surely you can only review this product based on the key assumptions made at the time of purchase, so I knew it was costly and I knew it could not do 2-way audio! so move on.

Would I like it to be cheaper? yes, if does did not compromised on quality but the quality of the product is excellent.

Overall, the product has exceeded our expectations and we are both extremely pleased. It has given us peace of mind since we where last broken into in or previous house 2 years ago.

A solid Camera And Front Door Light Worthy Of Consideration.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery good product, does its job reliably, not excited about the animal car person recognition, gets it wrong often but thats not why i got it for. Would hope they planned it with the view to update its software and make it homekit compatible, after all, its the biggest flaw of the product. Not being able to communicate with the rest of the house when detecting unexpected movement is just a shame. My house is full of smart toys that would love to interact but the only french product i have is unwilling to play with the rest of them. Typical.

Technical support eventually got back to me and updated firmware on device that has definitely helped, although I still have to turn off car detection as unit still picks them up outside of the alert zones at night.
Using the improve detection feature, the unit is now much more reliable and quality of video along with the iPhone app is excellent.
Still a little bit to go but I would now recommend this unit, very easy to use and intuitive.

This unit has not worked properly since I installed it a couple of weeks ago. Despite have set up alert zones, when it is dark the unit picks up movement that is outwith the zones, I have had the dull down all of the features until this fault is resolved. During daylight hours everything works great and I get no false alerts. Other problem I have with the unit is night vision, I have the Presence mounted on my house pointing down my driveway, despite our cars being parked directly under the unit, when it is dark it is not possible to see full length of the cars.
I raised a ticket with Netatmo support and 10 days later they have not got back to me which I am really disappointed about. Will see what they say if they ever get back to me and may change my review at that time.
At the moment I would not recommend the Presence to anyone, there are better units out there at half the price.

Straight out of the box this was so easy to install, it connected to the existing wiring for my outside light. Easy to connect to my broadband using the easy to use iPhone app. Really easy to set the trigger range. I set my camera to just trigger for people, however it can also spot animals and cars.

The camera records sound as well as video, is excellent for securing the front of the house, and also for knowing when deliveries have been made even hen I am not at home.

I have been looking for a simple security camera for a couple of years, it is quite simply brillia

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersReally pleased with the light/cam. Fairly easy to install, although it helps to have someone assist in holding it up while you attach it to the wall. Set up worked a treat, and I have it saving to my NAS. So far, no false alarms – it picks up only the movement you would expect.

I bought two cameras and had to get a wifi booster for one of them to increase wifi coverage that was reaching it on and off. One camera worked without a glitch straight away, for the other one it took me a bit of time to get it to work perfectly, i think the lack of wifi connexion and the high amount of videos to be uploaded somehow jammed it. I didn t get any notifications or too late, but once it had caught up with the upload it worked like a charm. I get real time notifications with great accuracy defining cars, people and animals. The close up images on the notification feed are very useful. The uploads to dropbox work great. It could be an improvement to have a time and date stamp on the videos of the time and date of the footage, not of the upload as it is currently the case. The light is nice and bright. It is an amazing system and I am considering getting at least another one.

    Pros:
    Looks good
Face recognition algorithms are not bad.
    No false positives
    No cloud subscriptions.
(I wrote small android app to welcome people by name using its notifications. people feel good when my tablet dashboard welcomes friends with name)
    Cons:
Drops connection frequently (I ended up with using ethernet cable)
    Misses faces
    Lag time in notifications.
You lose evidence videos if it is stollen.

Update: Connection drops was because of my router not the camera.
I have got some false positives also ignored some faces.

Netatmo Presence is as brilliant as Netatmo Welcome. No monthly fee at all.

Set up is doodle, just followed the printed instructions and it was up and running in under 5 minutes. It took me under 30 mins to hang the camera and connect to the power as I had to run a meter of flex cable from the outer wall light.

After the set up, notifications start pouring in with appx 5 second delay which I think is normal as my WiFi router is about 15 feets from the installed camera. I have observed that it starts recording even before sending the notification means you may get notification a few seconds later but you won’t miss the event. Live stream has delay of appx 7 to 10 seconds but I think it’s with every IP camera.

I managed to hang the Presence at appx 2 meters height at the front door to cover my 50 feet wide driveway. Quality was superb for the area it was covering but had to remove as it didn’t cover the whole driveway plus chances of grab & run was higher as camera is just above our main door which is only 12 feet from the pedestrian pavement. Yeah I know it will record before a thug places his/her hands on it but why risk 249.

Tested at appx 14 feets height (not fixed yet), the quality drops as human face is bit pixelated in a broad sunny day. Hence 4 stars as I expect it to be a crystal crisp quality. I wasn’t able to check the quality during the night so can’t comment.

You can set up security zones to target a specific area which is an amazing feature & it only send notifications if someone steps in the set security zone. No unwanted notifications.

Flood light is a good feature and you can set the intensity of the light (brighter or mild) from the mobile App but didn’t find any information if the LEDs are replaceable or not, in case they stopped working.

I can’t find where is the micro SD card in Presence as oppose to Welcome but you can set up your own FTP (it’s easy just Google set up FTP and follow Microsoft version or there are tons videos on the YouTube). Or turn any old unused laptop as your FTP server. Plus you can link it with your Dropbox. I haven’t tried yet but I will test it with my Yahoo or Gmail drives as they are lot more generous than Dropbox.

My biggest concern – I have to run a flex cable to power from the nearest socket; the connection behind the Netatmo Presence box is not ip67 rated and can easily get condensation so going to buy an ip65 rated junction box and mount the camera on it as Netatmo has shown in their installation video on their website and YouTube.

Brilliant product if you are not into POE/NVR stuff and want to avoid cables and drill big holes through the wall, I would recommend this.

Feedback for Netatmo: they could have make it smaller like their own indoor Welcome or may be double the size of Nest outdoor camera (you pay monthly fee to record your videos on Nest) with anti-vandal feature for overhead door installation with two way communication.

Netatmo can easily make it a more better quality product with higher resolutions as in REOLINK 8-Channels 4-Megapixel (2560×1440) Super HD PoE NVR Home Security Monitoring System (RLK8-410B4) or Reolink RLC-410WS or Hikvision HD bullet or dome cameras. I’m thinking to buy reolink or better get to try for free under Amazon Vine as I don’t know the level of customer support from reolink.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought one and was blown away by the functionality and quality of the device. Sadly, adding the second one to watch the back of the house has soured the positive experience somewhat. The notifications via the app and Apple Watch work very well. The devices still record but the quality of each video stream has now degraded. I’ve yet to figure out why this is but one theory I have is that domestic routers, of the type supplied by Sky etc., are not up to the WiFi bandwidth requirements. Clearly were that the case, then that is not the fault of Netatmo but it may strike a cautionary note to those with the requirement for more than one device. I need to add a third but am holding fire for the moment. I will update this review once I have heard from Netatmo but I’d urge caution before making this significant investment. First update: There is no identifiable technical support that I have been able to find. Given the premium price of these devices, buying them without access to technical support makes no sense. They lose one star for that. UPDATE: After a few months of use, I can now add more experience. Mostly superb but there are some odd phenomenon. Because they don’t detect with a heat signature (like a PIR), it’s surprising what the camera mistakes. Large plants moving in high winds are mistaken for people. Even more weird is that, if you exclude the plant from the detection zone, the shadow of it on the ground moving in wind/bright sunlight, also becomes a ‘person’. Last night, a spider on the camera became a ‘car in the garden’. I’ve still yet to see a more impressive device but not quite perfection just yet.

Bought 2 of these are an very impressed so far. Easy to setup, very few dropouts and accurate motion detection/alerts. Ability to backup to Dropbox with zero added subscription fee makes this product a much more viable long term solution vs nest or Arlo. HomeKit integration would be nice to see in the future.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersUpdate 21/01/2017
Well thanks to Netatmo support for sorting out my issue. In particular Florian who is very professional and a huge help. I now know what it is like to have a perfectly functioning device that stays connected and is working brilliantly. No disconnections, all correct notifications and generally just awesome. My home feels much more secure. Thanks for standing by your products Netatmo. folks grab one, when they work they are superb. Back to 5 stars.

    Update 10/1/17

Unfortunately this is now a one star product. Constantly disconnects losing the live stream. This means I lose notifications. It is only fixed by a restart. Unfortunately today I missed the neighbours mailbox being vandalised as the camera went down immediately after a restart and as I was not home to do it again it stayed disconnected all day. My welcome is wonderful but this camera is just an expensive wall ornament. Really unhappy. Netatmo just don’t answer and when they do it is a week later and of no help at all. Too many faults like this in the forums for it to be anything but a bad fault or bug.

    Original review

I ordered this from Amazon (wife account) and had it shipped to New Zealand via my in laws. It is available in Australia but not NZ yet. It arrived perfectly packaged and really quickly. I had been waiting a year for this camera and could not get my hands on it fast enough. I had an electrician in to run a 240 volt wire to the position on the wall I wanted it mounted. All my existing fittings hang from the eves and this must be mounted on a vertical wall. I watched the install video provided by Netatmo on you tube. I strongly suggest doing that as it is very clear and well made. The instructions in the box are pretty ordinary. I hardly referred to those.

Anyway mounting it was pretty straight forward. Took about an hour. The only issue is I have a brick house and the bricks have a wave surface so getting it to mount of a reasonably flat bit took a little longer. The wiring can be a touch hard to get in behind the base as you twist it into place but all in all it’s a clever way to mount with very little difficulty.

I then powered it on (took a few moments to power up which had me with my heart in my mouth briefly as I expected an immediate start). From there I just ensured I was connected to the network AP I wanted the camera to connect to and followed the app. I later set up dropbox and FTP to mirror the settings in my Netatmo Welcome camera. Incredibly easy and it was filming me in seconds. The next step was to set up the alert zones using the four available. Pretty easy and efficient however they can only be rectangular or square (regular shapes) and don’t go down as small as I’d like to focus on say just the mailbox in one zone. Not really a big deal though. I have found that I had to keep windows that were inside alert zones and reflected car lights at night out of the zone or it would register a car. My zones extend down the driveway to just short of the footpath. I have to say that it performs flawlessly in terms of identifying cars, humans and animals. our two cats are being picked up everytime without fail. It has been interesting to see where they sneak off to at night. The floodlight comes on for cars and humans but I leave it off with animals. The picture is arguably better with it off at night but I like it to make anyone walking on the property think twice as they get flooded in light, hence it is on for anything not an animal.

The footage on the live feed is crisp and clear but sometimes as it starts to buffer or begin playing it can get very pixelated. The FTP transfers and those on the SD card and dropbox are super super clear though. Amazing quality. Its an outstanding device and I would buy one again. I find myself sitting watching the live feed far too often. There is one MAJOY issue though that has to be worked out and soon. It is even answered in the help section of the Netatmo website which seems odd. Just fix it Netatmo.

That issue is that twice a day, without fail, normally as we go from dawn to daylight or daylight to dusk the live feed gets stuck. It either just goes black or freezes on the last image updated. Huge issue! I can’t change settings or flick the floodlight on or anything in an attempt get it back online. The only I can do is view the captured videos in the timeline. Obviously if it does this while I am away at work or on holiday and I am not at home to switch it off at its power source and then back on again it is a complete waste of space. I have a work around to fix while I am away in that today I installed a Wemo light switch that I can turn on and off remotely. That allows me to reboot the Presence when at work etc.

When in this state it doesn’t even register movement, of anything!. Basically when I get up in the morning and before dusk I have to “fix it” and power it off then back on. The onetime in the four days it has been going that it didn’t fail going into night (first day) the IR LED’s failed to come on. Hmmmm.

I have complete faith that Netatmo will fix this so therefore still love the Presence and would recommend it to anyone. I have the Welcome and it’s been superb and I will get a Home Coach as soon as I can. But be aware, the camera does have this quite bad issue…..for now.

I will update the review once Netatmo fix this issue. Just FYI, I have high speed broadband, really strong wifi (there presence runs off an extender that is full strength signal in and out which I installed just to make sure the Camera had the best signal). I know NZ is a long way away from any servers Netatmo run but the Welcome runs perfectly and is sold here, as is the Presence is Aussie. Basically it isa camera issue, not my setup. Netatmo Forums document it as well. Still love it though 🙂

    Thanks Lance M

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI got delivery and have installed the Wi-Fi security Netatmo Presence /porch light next to the front door. I replaced the previous light which meant the electrical wiring needed to power the camera was already in place. It also has a led floodlight. Once I connected it I downloaded the Netatmo app. Doing this was very straightforward and got connected to my WiFi. I connected to the Presence, then installed the app and paired the camera to my tablet and smartphone over a Bluetooth connection. I open the app and can see a live view from the camera on my tablet or smartphone. It gives a series of thumbnail images in reverse chronological order. Icons next to the clips show what triggered the camera to send the alert. All working well and it is exactly as I hoped it would work. Excellent so far.

Golden Review Award: 215 From Our UsersI’m pretty impressed by this camera. I installed it almost a month ago and I wanted to see how it performs before writing the review. It has some plusses (big ones) and some minuses, of course.

The first little problem came up during installation. The black box that functions as a base for the camera, although hallow in the back, does not have much free space in it. I installed the camera flash on a wooden pole. And I had to press the wires inside and then the base against the pole. Those wires are a tight fit behind the base if there’s no additional hole in the wall.

Then WiFi setup. After the initial installation, the camera would drop its connection a couple of times in a day. After the first 2-3 days or so, the connection seemed to stabilise. I would have expected this camera to get a better signal, being this big. But its wifi reception is weaker than my iPhone 6. The phone showed 2 bars right near the camera, while the camera showed just one (the dot). Drops in wifi connection does not affect recordings as those are stored on its internal SD card. It’s just annoying if you want to access your camera in that moment.

Storage. This comes with an SD card which is preinstalled. I don’t know if it’s 8 or 16GB and there is no mention of internal storage in the app. From what I saw in the app, the camera saves bits of videos on the card and then from the card they are uploaded to the cloud (and your additional storage, if you have one). If you setup FTP or Dropbox, the videos will be uploaded twice, so if you watch your bandwidth. I set up an FTP storage inside my home, on a Synology NAS.

Light. The light is very bright. I had a 100w lamp that had a similar brightness. But because on Netatmo the light can be used dimmed, I dimmed it at about 80%. Another nice feature to have. Plus these are leds, so should last quite a few good years, and you can’t beet that wattage. If with full brightness it has 12w, probably I have it now on 10w and it lights the whole front of my house at night.

Camera. The camera saves videos in 4 formats: 1080p, 720p, medium and low. I save them 1080p and a day takes around 3GB.

Detection. We’ll here Netatmo shines. It’s so good that you start to get annoying when it gets something wrong. I will post some pictures to see how it detects animals, people, cars. It can spot cars through my fence, it can spot them at night based only on the headlights, it spots my neighbours cars in his yard, when he starts to pull it out. It’s a marvel. It spots people from back, side, front. And again, it spots my neighbour from across the street when he gets out of the house 🙂

Two problems I had with detection:
    1. The exhaust from my boiler is on the front on the house. It blows off burnt gases from the boiler. During daytime there’s no problem with this. On some foggy days I got some “Motion detection” alarms. But at night it’s a nightmare. I get tons of person detected from that smoke. You can see how the smoke looks in one of the night pictures of this review.
    2. I tried setting the light to come on only for person detection at night. And although it says it detected a car, the light comes on as usual.

Overall I’m very impressed with the camera build quality and the work put in the software. I activated the netatmo learning option, maybe they get this fake detections and make the system better in a few months.

UPDATE. After a couple of snow storms I found the design to have a small flaw. Due to the small edge the camera tends to keep the snow, which builds up until there’s no image. I uploaded an image for this too. They should have made the camera casing flush with the housing to allow liquids to drain properly. Whenever it snowed, the black square where the camera is got filled up with snow which then froze. And it is difficult to clean it. You have to melt it somehow.

    The best exterior camera

Cameras work well and phone app gives good reassurance.
Motion detected was the cat on one occasion but the live video reassured.
    Works well with dropbox.
Can recommend the cameras but not the tags.
Tags are badly designed. Difficult to insert batteries without cap coming off and cap comes off spontaneously if door is shut with too much force.
The one close to the WiFi has stopped working.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersNetatmo Presence. After waiting over a year for this camera – first heard about it on BBC Click Program – It finally came available for delivery this month.
First impressions are, not disappointed in the long wait. Easy to fit to the wall although old existing light was a bit of a rusted pain to get off. Also had to fit it to the wall direct as no junction box available. We have Harling walls and they are not the easiest to work with, but as said, instructions easy to follow and unit fitted neatly (have a look at the installation video on Netatmo site, makes life easier) .
I like the ease with which it set up. The zones are good as I can have it only reporting movement on my property even although camera sees beyond. The other good feature is it can ignore or record cars and animals. Its up to you what you want to monitor. Unit has Micro-SD card internal storage. Easy to link to Dropbox account.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersExcellent camera. New update allows you to upload straight to Dropbox. Very clear night vision and day vision. Easy and quick to setup. Facial recognition is very good and allows you to be notified and recorded when needed. Ifttt also allows for cool features like a screenshot of unknown person straight to your email which at one point was almost instant.
