Awesome product! Love watching all the birds that come visit the feeder. Great quality video.
I was also impressed with the motion sensor on this camera. You can set the sensitivity depending on what you want it to capture. When I set it at the highest sensitivity, it not only captured movement right in front of the camera where the birdseed is, but also movement in the background if something moved in my backyard. I would recommend lowering the sensitivity slightly so that only more relevant movement at the feeder itself is detected. The battery life of the camera is very good as well – I have not had to recharge it since the first time. The app is easy to use with a variety of settings you can customize. You can also insert a micro-SD card into the camera to automatically save video and photo from your footage.
Being able to have a live feed of the critters at the feeder has been a lot of fun, especially this time of year when the birds and squirrels are preparing for winter. I will say, depending on how you feel about squirrels eating out of the feeder, you may need to install it in a place squirrels can’t climb (the wall of the house, etc.). The hole that the birdseed comes out of is quite large, which does make it easy for squirrels to eat their fill. If you do notice a squirrel at the feeder, there is a bright light and alarm that you can turn on to scare them away. I have not tried it in real time yet, but it was quite loud when I tested it out, so I think it would do the job.
If I had to change one thing, it would be to make the camera detachable from the feeder so that the feeder could be more easily cleaned, or so that I could install the camera near a birdbath or other feeder. It would definitely make it more versatile.
Video can be saved through a netvue continuous recording subscription $5.99/ mth or free via SD card (not included) that can be inserted in the camara.
Due to not knowing what to expected, i purchased the birdfy lite. I would have preferred to go with the solar Birdfy, only because im more of the set it up and forget it person. Battery life appears to last for about a month.
Will only support 2.4 ghz.
Overall happy with the feeder, will not be disappointed.
The Birdfy camera installation was super easy and it’s very user friendly. My two year old thinks it’s great getting to watch the birds on my phone. The first couple days all I saw was squirrels, but the alarm scared a couple away. Now we’re getting birds and it’s so exciting!
Update: After stating that 3 is the maximum number of goofs that can fit they surpassed themselves and I think at one point 5 of them were squashed in there! You can record longer videos if you have the sd card installed, you just have to be watching live. I feed them Wagner’s Greatest Variety bird food after a lot of experimentation in case you were wondering…
The other cameras I have tried in the past did not have a bird feeder housing and still took longer to get operational than the Birdfy! Setup was extremely fast and easy. If you are a nature lover, you will not be disappointed with this product!
Very easy to put together and set up on our phones, and the app is easy to use!
The motion detection feature is not only great for wildlife, but anyone coming through our yard gets detected and put in the video history, and we get notifications too. We love it.
PROS:
-Great video quality, night mode works too
-Great battery life – has been up for over a week and battery still above 90%
-Durable – it took an 8ft tumble over rocks at the hands of a squirrel and I found no damage after
-Squirrel Alarm sort of works the first time (til the squirrels learn there’s no real threat)
-Large seed capacity (for the birds, squirrels might disagree)
-Netvue App is functional, customizable, and easy to use. I love that the Birdfy feeder is on the same app as my home security.
-Option to add micro SD card for continuous recording
CONS:
-Mount design could be improved to protect from squirrels knocking the feeder/camera down
-Subscription service required for AI recognitio
The camera was very easy to assemble after reading through the instructions and I love that you don’t have to drill into anything to have it be stable and steady – you can strap it to a tree, or to a post like we did.
Super easy to fill and re-fill by tipping the top forward and has a very sturdy construction that hasn’t succumbed to the weather.
I look forward to lots of time spent with the family checking out the birds as they come by our cafe for a bite now and then.
Have tried multiple times to set up the camera. On the positive, birds do enjoy the feeder, but can’t get the camera to work.
Suggestions, easiest, place the QR code on the top of the camera OR on the front. Allow for the removal of the camera from the feeder.
UPDATE: Received a solar panel from NetVue. Having such will eliminate the need to continually take it down to charge.
Assembly of the product was straight-forward and easy to follow. Construction of the house, camera, etc. is extremely good. One evening we were visited by two possums simultaneously, as shown in one of the photos. I was worried that the weight of the two possums would cause damage to the unit, but it did a great job withstanding this event.
We have been viewing the feeder camera many times a day, and look forward to seeing what new kinds of birds and animals that we will see. My only recommendation for product improvement, would be a version of the same unit with some type of squirrel/possum deterrent; perhaps a smaller exit for the food, in order to keep the food safe for birds. Other users may not have this problem, as our yard is constantly visited by squirrels, possums, raccoons, deer, etc. Overall, this is a great product and is sure to please any nature lover on your list! Thank you NETVUE for making such of an awesome product!
I absolutely love this bird feeder, very easy to assemble, has a fantastic camera which captures any activity caught on camera. Love the app which alerts you to movement. Added bonus is it doubling up as a security camera with its wide angle coverage. Would highly recommend.
Feeder was easy to set up, camera set up was easy as well. Have had it up for about a week and very happy, birds are starting to find it. Videos that come through are very clear and good quality.
It should have instructions on how to connect the solar panel, though. It connected right away to the app through the usual Netvue step by step process. It detected the micro SD card and formatted it.
We are so pleased with this cameras first impressions, it was simple to put together and install on to the wall.
Just 2 screws for the main camera and 3 screws for the solar panel, (no drilling through the wall for a power supply).
Unfortunately we haven’t had any birds land on it yet but it has only been up for half of a day.
I have been pleased with every camera I have bought from Netvue as they are simple to set up and been very reliable.
It was very easy to setup and use. After giving the battery a full charge and adding the bird feed to it then it was ready to go. The camera is super intelligent in that it helps to identify the species of birds that come to it. The picture is super clear as well. The battery life is good, so far, from a few weeks use but I will look into investing in a solar panel that I hope will be compatible with it to ensure that I don’t have to recharge as frequently. It supports cloud storage as well, which made this a very attractive option and connecting it up to WiFi means that you never really have to get out to it to pull data from it. Alert notifications from it are prompt and always seem to be accurate.
I have taken it down for now in order to properly stain and treat the pergola that I have mounted it from and so will update with better pictures and video once sorted, or may look to move it somewhere different entirely. I am so very happy with this. I highly recommend it.
Previously I thought that a bird camera just meant a small camera that would be able to monitor the bird, however how wrong was I!
This camera has some serious upgrades over just a basic camera in the fact that what you can actually do is monitor birds flying in and out of any place where you put this, but also it’s manage is to recognise the individual different types of birds and notify you which birds were there at anytime, on top of that you can actually see if something like a squirrel turns up and because you can talk to them you can tell them to go away so using your voice as a pest repellent.
I went with the camera on its own as I already have a really nice bird table setup that I wanted to use already however the bird table that they do provide seems to be a very good solution based on how the camera works.
Its battery powered so does need recharging every now and again depending on the amount of movement that you get on there and the amount of notifications it needs to send you. However this is rather infrequent so shouldn’t really be classed as a negative point.
The main main advantage for myself though it is of course the AI bird recognition which has helped me see how many different birds I actually have coming into my garden.
Fabulous sturdy bit of kit , needs work on the I.D system, but once sorted it will be excelle
If you like ornothology then this is THE device for you. The NETVUE birdy is a very high quality bird camera that mounts inside a feeding enclosure that can be secured to trees or any other structure around your home or garden. It connects via WiFi and can be remotely accessed via an app on your phone. It pings alerts when birds are at the feeder and amazingly automatically identifies the type / species of bird and notifies you of the type of bird at the feeder.
The device can be loaded up with over a litre of bird food that will dispense slowly as birds consume it. The device can last up to a year from a single charge and it comes with all the securing attachments to attached it to a tree or outdoor structure.
The camera app is simple and easy to use and very intuitive, the alerts are lovely and the fact it identifies the species for you and alerts you accordingly is really impressive and it’s entirely accurate so far. This is a great way to drum up an interest in birds and wildlife with your children and also just a really interesting insight into the diversity of the surrounding wildlife.
The price is high and may be off putting but the device really is quite remarkable and a lot of development has went into the product. With the ability to identify over 6000 different bird types I can understand why the price is high as the R&D to create the software must have been very costly.
I’m very impressed with the device, I believe it’s truly impressive and worth every penny and if your interested in birds I’d really suggest going for it, you won’t be disappointed.
I was looking for a simple camera for covering my backyard, and just for a coincidence I found this sort of nest. Despite I am not a usual birdwatcher, I decide to buy…and it was a lovely surprise!
The product arrived almost ready to install (I chose the camera with the feeder). It comes with a bracket for the wall fastening, and it can be fixed with both screws or the hanging belt. As I was not sure about the best position for the feeder, I used the belt to test the camera into different spots. Finally I chose the water spout . In other words, in 5min I was able to install the camera without any mess! The camera is motion triggered and it turns on only when a bird is visiting the nest, and this is so smart as it helps in saving the battery (in 2 weeks I used the 30% of battery despite several visits!).
The AI sensor sends you a notification any time a ‘guest’ is approaching. Then it records a video which is available on both the camera software and the Cloud. Even more it is able to recognise and discourage squirrels and other unwanted guests using a siren alarm. And I really appreciate this feature, as I was scared of creating attractive spots for rats in my back yard. The camera is managed by a remote app installed on my phone, and the maintenance required in place is very minimum: recharge the battery (maybe once a month?), and refill the feeder!
I can say I was absolutely impressed by the product. The easiness of use and the quality of material is an added value, and the extreme flexibility of its software makes the birdwatching a very nice experienceeven from your sofa! Fully recommended!
We love our wild nature filled garden and this has made the perfect addition and replaced our old tired bird feeder, it was easy to set up and install, it has a security light and the ability for you to broadcast your voice from the app to scare away any unwanted visitors.
The camera has an updated UI compared to my other (security) camera, it allows you to set a sleep time that puts the camera to sleep during your set hours.
The solar panel is able to keep the battery topped up and even fully charged the battery from 60% to 100% in the first day and it was a partly cloudy day.
Easy 5/5 I’d recommend this bird feeder to anyone wanting to get a closer look at the birds that visit your garden 🙂
Very easy to setup. It produces decent quality videos of birds. Alert notifications are promot and useful. Alot of fetures and it acts as bird cam akong with security cam for the garden. Overall goos product. Ai dectection of birds is hit or miss but you can use google lens on all the images captured to get more accurate results. It has good clarity in night mode as well. Motion detection is bang on.
This is great fun. I love gadgets and being able to capture birds from the garden was something I wanted to try out. The bird species recognition was a great selling point too. The recognition is pretty good but not perfect. However there is a way to submit feedback to help improve this. It is great to be able to have alerts when a bird arrives at the feeder (you can switch them on or off). There are lots of options for motion detection, how long to record for (including automatic) and you can choose either white light or infra-red night mode.
I’ve had lots of fun trying out all the different options! I prefer to try to capture as much as possible so it probably runs the built-in rechargeable battery a bit quicker so I plugged it in permanently whilst it is not so sunny. I first started with it strapped to a tree (the strap is very strong and was great but it wasn’t the best position for plugging it in so later I used the very sturdy brackets attached to the back of our shed so I could plug it in to the power easily).
Lots of great quality pictures and videos and the AI detection works very well and is being updated constantly as I understand. They are pretty responsive coming back to suggestions via their forums.
The solar panel certainly works but as it wasn’t so sunny when I first got it back in December I didn’t try it out fully yet. I will try plugging that back in when we start getting more sunshine and see.
I ordered this at the start of December on Kickstarter (it wasn’t available on Amazon back then). I went for the full package with the solar panel too (even though I was not sure if it would be sunny enough here in the UK).
Overall I really love this – it is great fun and interesting to watch the birds and what happens when I put different bird food in!
