Awesome product! Love watching all the birds that come visit the feeder. Great quality video.
I have been using the Birdfy feeder for around a week now, and have been pleased with the product so far. The feeder came disassembled in the box, but with the instruction manual it was very easy to put together. I like that there are multiple ways to install the feeder – you can attach it to a porch railing, a wall, or even wrap the enclosed strap around a tree trunk to install it!
I was also impressed with the motion sensor on this camera. You can set the sensitivity depending on what you want it to capture. When I set it at the highest sensitivity, it not only captured movement right in front of the camera where the birdseed is, but also movement in the background if something moved in my backyard. I would recommend lowering the sensitivity slightly so that only more relevant movement at the feeder itself is detected. The battery life of the camera is very good as well – I have not had to recharge it since the first time. The app is easy to use with a variety of settings you can customize. You can also insert a micro-SD card into the camera to automatically save video and photo from your footage.
Being able to have a live feed of the critters at the feeder has been a lot of fun, especially this time of year when the birds and squirrels are preparing for winter. I will say, depending on how you feel about squirrels eating out of the feeder, you may need to install it in a place squirrels can’t climb (the wall of the house, etc.). The hole that the birdseed comes out of is quite large, which does make it easy for squirrels to eat their fill. If you do notice a squirrel at the feeder, there is a bright light and alarm that you can turn on to scare them away. I have not tried it in real time yet, but it was quite loud when I tested it out, so I think it would do the job.
If I had to change one thing, it would be to make the camera detachable from the feeder so that the feeder could be more easily cleaned, or so that I could install the camera near a birdbath or other feeder. It would definitely make it more versatile.
Ive had the Netvue Birdfy feeder for a little over a week. I had purchase for my back yard however its a good looking bird feeder so decided to mount on my front porch. Feeder is made of hard plastic and appears to be durable. It was easy to assemble and mount, picture quality is great! Easy access to load bird food.
Video can be saved through a netvue continuous recording subscription $5.99/ mth or free via SD card (not included) that can be inserted in the camara.
Due to not knowing what to expected, i purchased the birdfy lite. I would have preferred to go with the solar Birdfy, only because im more of the set it up and forget it person. Battery life appears to last for about a month.
Will only support 2.4 ghz.
Overall happy with the feeder, will not be disappointed.
Along with Birdfy I have many other Netvue cameras and I love them.
The Birdfy camera installation was super easy and it’s very user friendly. My two year old thinks it’s great getting to watch the birds on my phone. The first couple days all I saw was squirrels, but the alarm scared a couple away. Now we’re getting birds and it’s so exciting!
This is why I took off a star, and yes I did check the junk mail folder and searched all my mailboxes for Netvue. Ironically, I did start getting advertising emails from them pretty quickly. Otherwise it’s pretty good. I bought a solar panel from a different brand to keep it charged because it was a bit awkward to charge where I have it located every 2 days. I live in the city so don’t have a huge variety – Mourning Doves, sparrows, house finches and scrub jays so no need for the ID software. It does provide a lot of entertainment, especially from the Eurasian Collared Doves I have as regular visitors-I call them the goofs because they seem to think nothing of landing on each other and cramming themselves in although 3 at at a time is the maximum (the feeder is between two plants in pots). The feeder is easy to fill – I set it down on some shelving I have on the patio and used the belt to keep it in place. The assembly instructions were OK but minimal instructions for how to set up the camera and oddly the default setting is upside down-that needs to be fixed-another reason for the 4-star rating. Having said that the quality is good, it’s easy to wipe off the occasional schmutz that gets on there, and the birds seem to be happy!
Update: After stating that 3 is the maximum number of goofs that can fit they surpassed themselves and I think at one point 5 of them were squashed in there! You can record longer videos if you have the sd card installed, you just have to be watching live. I feed them Wagner’s Greatest Variety bird food after a lot of experimentation in case you were wondering…
What an amazing way to bring gratitude into your life and remember to slow down. The entire family is enjoying the videos 🙂 thank you for a great product.
We couldn’t be happier with our bird feeder!! It was so easy to install, easy to set up and easy to add the bird feed! My only complaint (and not to the company or product) is that we have had it for 1 week and have not had 1 bird come! Hoping they just haven’t found it yet. Cannot wait to be able to see the birds. Thank you Netvue!
This little camera is very cool. I have had a little blue bird that has stopped by to get some food. It’s fun to show my students the video clips and the live camera of the birds that visit. Over time I know more different types of birds will visit.
I have tried dozens of different wifi cameras to capture the nature around my home and the Birdfy camera without a doubt has the best image quality out of all of them! The housing is extremely rugged, and the overall design is super cute!
The other cameras I have tried in the past did not have a bird feeder housing and still took longer to get operational than the Birdfy! Setup was extremely fast and easy. If you are a nature lover, you will not be disappointed with this product!
I’m very happy with this bird feeder, it has a lot of great features that I’ve really enjoyed. Overall the setup was very easy. I had the camera linked to my phone, the software updated, and all the pieces put together in about 25 minutes. The picture quality is really good and it’s a very nice looking feeder as well. I love the motion detection alerts and as I have it on a tree facing towards my front door it’s functional as a security camera as well so I can see when I get package deliveries, who’s at my door, etc. I also find setting the hours for sleep mode to be a great function for saving battery life. So far I’ve not had any major issues the only small thing I wish was a little better is that the lock that holds the feeder onto the brace can be a bit tricky, but overall I’d highly recommend this to anyone who wants to be able to see their birds while they’re not outside or to get a more up close view of your birds.
I bought this originally to put a hummingbird feeder in front of the camera. But instead, our ducks hatched seven cute little ducklings. I decided to put the duck crumbles in the hopper to see what would happen. Take a look at the video. I also experimented with cat food. The possibilities are numerous. I highly recommend this bird feeder camera.
We set up our Birdfy to replace our basic feeder and we couldn’t be happier with doing so! It gives us the opportunity to be up close and personal with the wildlife in our new garden, and we cant wait for our new garden to be complete to welcome all the new wildlife.
Very easy to put together and set up on our phones, and the app is easy to use!
The motion detection feature is not only great for wildlife, but anyone coming through our yard gets detected and put in the video history, and we get notifications too. We love it.
The Birdfy Lite was a hit with the squirrels immediately, emptying the contents within the first 24hrs. It took about a week for the novelty to wear off for the squirrels and for the birds to take note of its location. Now the feeder is catching great 10 second clips (mostly of finches) and is fun to check in on (and for the cats to watch from the window).
PROS:
-Great video quality, night mode works too
-Great battery life – has been up for over a week and battery still above 90%
-Durable – it took an 8ft tumble over rocks at the hands of a squirrel and I found no damage after
-Squirrel Alarm sort of works the first time (til the squirrels learn there’s no real threat)
-Large seed capacity (for the birds, squirrels might disagree)
-Netvue App is functional, customizable, and easy to use. I love that the Birdfy feeder is on the same app as my home security.
-Option to add micro SD card for continuous recording
CONS:
-Mount design could be improved to protect from squirrels knocking the feeder/camera down
-Subscription service required for AI recognitio
Have this feeder as a multi use camera. Have it all the way in the back of the property. Sometimes the signal is iffy but does catch out there which is amazing. I use this camera to feed birds and also to watch my chickens at the same time. Wonderful camera in my opinion for both bird watching and security if you choose to use it for those purposes. The battery life is actually still in the high 90’s % after a week and a half of use. I am truly a fan of netvue products and price for quality is the major reason I’ve stayed using this brand for several years now. You have the option of having monitoring through subscriptions or use for live mode or the use of a SD card for free. Truly an amazing product and always excited to check their cameras.
When we received the Birdfy we weren’t sure what to expect but definitely didn’t think we’d have this much fun spying on birds as they fed. With a view of our backyard we can catch any of the many birds that visit and never get a chance to see as they stop by for a snack.
The camera was very easy to assemble after reading through the instructions and I love that you don’t have to drill into anything to have it be stable and steady – you can strap it to a tree, or to a post like we did.
Super easy to fill and re-fill by tipping the top forward and has a very sturdy construction that hasn’t succumbed to the weather.
I look forward to lots of time spent with the family checking out the birds as they come by our cafe for a bite now and then.
Product had promise coming out if the box, however set up is a nightmare. The continued chiming when attempting to have the QR code recognized by the bird feeders camera, then trying to scan the QR code on the feeder is impossible due to the location of the code under the stationary camera. The inability to charge the battery outside of the unit causes the user to take the bird feeder Dow er every month or so, further causing a negative user experience.
Have tried multiple times to set up the camera. On the positive, birds do enjoy the feeder, but can’t get the camera to work.
Suggestions, easiest, place the QR code on the top of the camera OR on the front. Allow for the removal of the camera from the feeder.
UPDATE: Received a solar panel from NetVue. Having such will eliminate the need to continually take it down to charge.
I have had this feeder for a little over a week now, and I can say that is a very cool yard feature for the bird enthusiast! It was a pleasure to see a variety of birds up-close in their natural habitat. Being able to save pictures and videos of our favorites was fun for our whole family.
Assembly of the product was straight-forward and easy to follow. Construction of the house, camera, etc. is extremely good. One evening we were visited by two possums simultaneously, as shown in one of the photos. I was worried that the weight of the two possums would cause damage to the unit, but it did a great job withstanding this event.
We have been viewing the feeder camera many times a day, and look forward to seeing what new kinds of birds and animals that we will see. My only recommendation for product improvement, would be a version of the same unit with some type of squirrel/possum deterrent; perhaps a smaller exit for the food, in order to keep the food safe for birds. Other users may not have this problem, as our yard is constantly visited by squirrels, possums, raccoons, deer, etc. Overall, this is a great product and is sure to please any nature lover on your list! Thank you NETVUE for making such of an awesome product!
Product performs as advertised! Was easy to assemble and easy to connect and easy to fill. This is my third Netvue product and they have all performed well! We get alerts when we have a bird visitor and my wife and kids love to watch them up close! Make sure you install it in a place that the birds can find, had to move it to get the birds to come. Wish it had a plug in adapter or something so we don’t have to be concerned with battery charging. So far its been up a week and has not needed charging yet but time will tell. Great hobby to get the kids into! We all enjoy watching our visitors up close!
This is a lot of fun. Although the squirrels were dominating the feed I was able to use voice and the siren button to train them away from, attracting more birds. You can see that is discreetly facing my front door too and that’s the real benefit. The resolution is great and the simplicity of unpacking to use was easy. Very durable too. Let’s swap bird vids!!
I absolutely love this bird feeder, very easy to assemble, has a fantastic camera which captures any activity caught on camera. Love the app which alerts you to movement. Added bonus is it doubling up as a security camera with its wide angle coverage. Would highly recommend.
Feeder was easy to set up, camera set up was easy as well. Have had it up for about a week and very happy, birds are starting to find it. Videos that come through are very clear and good quality.
We have had a blast with this thing! We have our home covered with several Netvue cameras, so when we saw this, we knew it was a must have. We love watching our little visitors and the AI tech accurately identifies the birds. We also had a squirrel stop by and it was identified and scared off, just as advertised. Would highly recommend!
It was well packaged. Instructions were clear and, while succinct aka “IKEA style” , easy to follow. It has two charging connectors, one USB-C on the feeder, great for initial charging and a micro USB directly on the camera; this one I will use with a solar panel – not included!
It should have instructions on how to connect the solar panel, though. It connected right away to the app through the usual Netvue step by step process. It detected the micro SD card and formatted it.
Super easy set up to get the camera powered on and connected to my phone. Hardest part was finding the best spot to put it in my backyard. Super clear picture (super foggy day I took this and still clearer than most cameras) and amazing motion detection. Definitely a must for a busy backyard. No visitors yet but anxiously waiting and know one will come soo
The camera was easy to set up. The software was easy to set up too. The pictures are clear. It would be nice if there were different color tops and perches. I’m anxiously awaiting our first visitors. Some features require a subscription to services, but most features work without having to do this.
We are so pleased with this cameras first impressions, it was simple to put together and install on to the wall.
Just 2 screws for the main camera and 3 screws for the solar panel, (no drilling through the wall for a power supply).
Unfortunately we haven’t had any birds land on it yet but it has only been up for half of a day.
I have been pleased with every camera I have bought from Netvue as they are simple to set up and been very reliable.
It was very easy to setup and use. After giving the battery a full charge and adding the bird feed to it then it was ready to go. The camera is super intelligent in that it helps to identify the species of birds that come to it. The picture is super clear as well. The battery life is good, so far, from a few weeks use but I will look into investing in a solar panel that I hope will be compatible with it to ensure that I don’t have to recharge as frequently. It supports cloud storage as well, which made this a very attractive option and connecting it up to WiFi means that you never really have to get out to it to pull data from it. Alert notifications from it are prompt and always seem to be accurate.
I have taken it down for now in order to properly stain and treat the pergola that I have mounted it from and so will update with better pictures and video once sorted, or may look to move it somewhere different entirely. I am so very happy with this. I highly recommend it.
Previously I thought that a bird camera just meant a small camera that would be able to monitor the bird, however how wrong was I!
This camera has some serious upgrades over just a basic camera in the fact that what you can actually do is monitor birds flying in and out of any place where you put this, but also it’s manage is to recognise the individual different types of birds and notify you which birds were there at anytime, on top of that you can actually see if something like a squirrel turns up and because you can talk to them you can tell them to go away so using your voice as a pest repellent.
I went with the camera on its own as I already have a really nice bird table setup that I wanted to use already however the bird table that they do provide seems to be a very good solution based on how the camera works.
Its battery powered so does need recharging every now and again depending on the amount of movement that you get on there and the amount of notifications it needs to send you. However this is rather infrequent so shouldn’t really be classed as a negative point.
The main main advantage for myself though it is of course the AI bird recognition which has helped me see how many different birds I actually have coming into my garden.
Fabulous sturdy bit of kit , needs work on the I.D system, but once sorted it will be excelle
If you like ornothology then this is THE device for you. The NETVUE birdy is a very high quality bird camera that mounts inside a feeding enclosure that can be secured to trees or any other structure around your home or garden. It connects via WiFi and can be remotely accessed via an app on your phone. It pings alerts when birds are at the feeder and amazingly automatically identifies the type / species of bird and notifies you of the type of bird at the feeder.
The device can be loaded up with over a litre of bird food that will dispense slowly as birds consume it. The device can last up to a year from a single charge and it comes with all the securing attachments to attached it to a tree or outdoor structure.
The camera app is simple and easy to use and very intuitive, the alerts are lovely and the fact it identifies the species for you and alerts you accordingly is really impressive and it’s entirely accurate so far. This is a great way to drum up an interest in birds and wildlife with your children and also just a really interesting insight into the diversity of the surrounding wildlife.
The price is high and may be off putting but the device really is quite remarkable and a lot of development has went into the product. With the ability to identify over 6000 different bird types I can understand why the price is high as the R&D to create the software must have been very costly.
I’m very impressed with the device, I believe it’s truly impressive and worth every penny and if your interested in birds I’d really suggest going for it, you won’t be disappointed.
I was looking for a simple camera for covering my backyard, and just for a coincidence I found this sort of nest. Despite I am not a usual birdwatcher, I decide to buy…and it was a lovely surprise!
The product arrived almost ready to install (I chose the camera with the feeder). It comes with a bracket for the wall fastening, and it can be fixed with both screws or the hanging belt. As I was not sure about the best position for the feeder, I used the belt to test the camera into different spots. Finally I chose the water spout . In other words, in 5min I was able to install the camera without any mess! The camera is motion triggered and it turns on only when a bird is visiting the nest, and this is so smart as it helps in saving the battery (in 2 weeks I used the 30% of battery despite several visits!).
The AI sensor sends you a notification any time a ‘guest’ is approaching. Then it records a video which is available on both the camera software and the Cloud. Even more it is able to recognise and discourage squirrels and other unwanted guests using a siren alarm. And I really appreciate this feature, as I was scared of creating attractive spots for rats in my back yard. The camera is managed by a remote app installed on my phone, and the maintenance required in place is very minimum: recharge the battery (maybe once a month?), and refill the feeder!
I can say I was absolutely impressed by the product. The easiness of use and the quality of material is an added value, and the extreme flexibility of its software makes the birdwatching a very nice experienceeven from your sofa! Fully recommended!
We love our wild nature filled garden and this has made the perfect addition and replaced our old tired bird feeder, it was easy to set up and install, it has a security light and the ability for you to broadcast your voice from the app to scare away any unwanted visitors.
The camera has an updated UI compared to my other (security) camera, it allows you to set a sleep time that puts the camera to sleep during your set hours.
The solar panel is able to keep the battery topped up and even fully charged the battery from 60% to 100% in the first day and it was a partly cloudy day.
Easy 5/5 I’d recommend this bird feeder to anyone wanting to get a closer look at the birds that visit your garden 🙂
Very easy to setup. It produces decent quality videos of birds. Alert notifications are promot and useful. Alot of fetures and it acts as bird cam akong with security cam for the garden. Overall goos product. Ai dectection of birds is hit or miss but you can use google lens on all the images captured to get more accurate results. It has good clarity in night mode as well. Motion detection is bang on.
Eventually got my Birdfy Feeder Cam setup on a snow day! Highly recommend if you are looking for a backyard smart bird feeder camera. I think my birds love this. They come and go. Birdfy tells me what type of birds are coming with time stamp. It is just so amazing. Enjoy this a lot in the early spring snowy day 🙂
I am amazed by the AI recognition feature of Birdfy. It detects the coming birds and let me know the name of the birds. That’s really cool. It also records the coming birds automatically for me so I don’t have to check my phone all the time during the day. Whenever I want, I just open the Netvue app and take a look. It is much a better experience with birdwatching. I love it a lot!
This is great fun. I love gadgets and being able to capture birds from the garden was something I wanted to try out. The bird species recognition was a great selling point too. The recognition is pretty good but not perfect. However there is a way to submit feedback to help improve this. It is great to be able to have alerts when a bird arrives at the feeder (you can switch them on or off). There are lots of options for motion detection, how long to record for (including automatic) and you can choose either white light or infra-red night mode.
I’ve had lots of fun trying out all the different options! I prefer to try to capture as much as possible so it probably runs the built-in rechargeable battery a bit quicker so I plugged it in permanently whilst it is not so sunny. I first started with it strapped to a tree (the strap is very strong and was great but it wasn’t the best position for plugging it in so later I used the very sturdy brackets attached to the back of our shed so I could plug it in to the power easily).
Lots of great quality pictures and videos and the AI detection works very well and is being updated constantly as I understand. They are pretty responsive coming back to suggestions via their forums.
The solar panel certainly works but as it wasn’t so sunny when I first got it back in December I didn’t try it out fully yet. I will try plugging that back in when we start getting more sunshine and see.
I ordered this at the start of December on Kickstarter (it wasn’t available on Amazon back then). I went for the full package with the solar panel too (even though I was not sure if it would be sunny enough here in the UK).
Overall I really love this – it is great fun and interesting to watch the birds and what happens when I put different bird food in!
