We bought two of these cameras for our house to watch the front and back doors. These are really easy to install, setup and work fantastically. The cameras connect to the home wifi easily using the free phone app, require a minimum of one power cable through the wall and three screws to hold them up, its that simple. The picture is good day and night and can be accessed on your phone within seconds. We currently run them without the cloud storage and with a micro SD card, which gives around 24hour looped recording that can be played back at any time. The cameras are also linked into our Amazon Echo Show 5 which shows a live feed of whichever camera you ask for. These were a great purchase at a really good price and give a bit of piece of mind to seeing who is at the door before answering.
Very surprised and pleased with how well these camera’s work. Easy to set up and the picture quality is great. Both daylight and night time imaging is super quality. The 2 way sound is also a great addition. Highly recommend camera’s
The only negative I have with this order is that inside the box there was a card stating that I could email the company for free access to a cloud platform and despite several emails to them I’ve had zero response. Very disappointing indeed. You shouldn’t be offering free gifts if you cant then follow through on the offer!
Took a couple of attempts to set up as the wifi signal kept dropping out but once it was set up we got a very clear picture and great sound quality. The two way communication works really well too. Overall I am really pleased with the purchase and feel confident that my house now has better protection. Would definitely recommend these camera’s
Not as weighty as other CCTV products I have purchased but still sturdy. Has red night lights on it which are clearly visible. Would have preferred not to see these lights but doesn’t matter. Very easy to setup. The camera is brilliant though motion detection is great but haven’t observed the human detection yet which seems to be provided by the cloud platform. Connects to Alexa which is great.
Although I’ve only had the NetVue Vigil Outdoor Wi-Fi Camera a week ( covering rear garden ) I’m really impressed with the performance considering the price. Everything you need is literally in the box – even the drill bit.
I have since ordered another one to monitor front garden / drive.
Once app was downloaded, setup of camera done in less than 10mins.
Pros –
Great price and build quality
Very good image in daytime and at night ( IR )
Good Wi-Fi range – remember to disable 5ghz option on router during setup
Ethernet port for wired connection if required
128gb memory card accepted
Connects with Amazon Fire Stick / Fire TV Box via Alexa
Wide angle lens and 2 way audio
Cons –
Require larger hole drilling if all 3 wires ( 12 volt ,ethernet, reset ) are to pass through wall
If you are after a reasonably priced security camera with great features and you won’t be disappointed.
Fantastic camera at a very good price, so easy to setup just scan a couple of QR codes, one for the app which is well designed and easy to use the other to connect the camera and you’re done, they even supply a drill bit and rawplugs/screws which was really helpful as I have attached mine to a garage wall so it is overlooking my back garden. Great picture quality and good WIFI reception, can’t think of anything negative about this camera. One thing you will need is a ip66 connection box as the 3 cables coming from the camera are quite short but all camera’s are the same so not just an issue with this brand. Highly recommended will be ordering another one for the front of the house as well.
This far exceeded my expectations – I’d installed a camera by a different brand about 5 years ago at a much higher price and very plasticky in build quality. This camera is physically very robust and versatile and comes with everything needed to set it up. Took a little while to link with the WiFi and when updating the firmware on the phone it seemed to freeze at 99% but when I pressed the back button it had updated alright. Have adjusted the motion zone and
configured the sleep setting so that you don’t get plagued by too many notifications. Haven’t used it at night yet but being able to speak to someone at the door when you are elsewhere is a real bonus.
does not always link up with alexa as it need to be re-setup the internet everytime if power is turned off
it works fine on moblie once you have set up the QR
drill bit comes with this item { no RJ45 cable with this item}
very good picture and sound
make sure you have QR the code on the camera before putting up as it is requested though set up of the netvue camera
Great camera for the money. Easy to install and easy to operate using the associated app.
The quality of the pic is great and it also has 2 way audio (at the touch of a button)
The only negative for me is the length of the cables and the WiFi connection button which sits on a lead quite close to the camera. This can be a nuisance if the cam is situated outside and out of reach.
That said, I will be purchasing more because the positive points far outweigh the few minor negatives.
I originally bought four of the indoor netvue cameras to replace some old Chinese cameras I had and was concerned regarding the security of those. I was so impressed with the indoor netvue cameras I decided to take the plunge and order the outdoor ones.
I have installed three of them. I’m no diy-er but even I was able to fix them up myself. I have simply screwed them into the white plastic type trim under the guttering of the house if that makes sense.
They have a very clear picture in day and night and a good wide area of coverage. I have inserted an SD card so I can playback without paying for cloud service.
I also set up motion detection which it is letting me view too. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m in the 14 day trial period it is letting me view this as I have read other comments saying this isn’t possible without a cloud subscription. I will update this once my 14 days are up.
Extremely happy with these, considering I was going to buy two well known branded cameras for a total of 400 (which only offers motion detection, no continuous looped recording and still have to pay a subscription!) I feel I made the far superior, cost effective choice!
This really is an outstanding item of home security. I bought one, found it so good that I bought another two. I can monitor my home anywhere with the internet app. I can speak to callers via the camera. My home feels safer and more secure. The cameras are exceptionally easy to use and install. 100% positive review but it would be nice to have either a longer power cable , or the option to buy an extender cable. Don’t bother looking at other makes of security cameras, just buy Netvue, affordable, well made and does it exactly what it was built for.
Only had this camera set up for a couple of days so far but working well so far.
Set up was extremely straightforward, motion detection seems to be picking up random stuff like rain and turning on when shaken by wind but might just need to adjust settings. For the price a good all round camera
The instructions say configure near the router; suggest that with duel frequency routers like BT Home Hub 2 best configure some way from the router to ensure that you see the 2.4GHz range.
The ethernet connector and reset button + the power connector can be too big to put through a wall. I put the these in a closed plastic switch box mounted above the camera, so just had to thread the power wire through the wall.
I used the 128Ghz memory card and formatted through the app. Although the formatting was carried out ok there was no completion message – just an error which was a bit confusing!
I got this camera recently, and it took less than 5 minutes to get it working. there is the number of videos and websites resources but it was really easy to install. The camera is solid and its pictures qualities are great. the motion detection alert is functioning WITHOUT the subscription service which is a great addition. For the price of around 30 it’s a great piece of kit. The quality is with1080Hd camera is great.
The camera can record video without using the cloud service if you installed a micro SD card and it works well.
I particularly love the night vision on this camera, it is so powerful even in the middle of the night. The audio function works well for speaking, but there is a slight delay but works great in a wired ethernet connection.
Very pleased with this latest addition to my netvue family.
I highly recommend this product as its great value for money.
Great picture quality, both day and night. Can choose to record 24/7 which is good, but unfortunately you only get a notification for any motion detected – though with a timestamp and screenshot, it doesn’t show up as a marker on the timeline (as with previous cameras we’ve owned) or a link to a clip of the motion detected. Although this is available if you subscribe (at a cost) Cloud storage is also available for storing the footage, however you can add in a memory card so isn’t necessary.
All in all though, we are really happy with it for the price we paid.
Well packaged product, easy to set up – download the app first, if unsure see the step-by-step videos. Don’t install outside until all set up and configured first – and if using Wi-Fi make sure its very close to your router when you first configure it. I needed to chat with support to overcome a problem (I was too far away from my router) but their help and advice was spot on easy to understand. Once set up I contacted someone 180 miles away, they downloaded the app, I shared the device and bingo! – they could see the video and got motion alerts also. Just what we wanted.
VERY pleased with the product, and a great price also !
I read some good reviews with regards to the Netvue Vigil and liked the fact you could link them to Amazon Alexa. They were on offer so I jumped at the price.
The camera is as simple as plug and play, if you connect it via WiFi and scanning the QR code. It only requires your WiFi password.
I didn’t want to rely on a plug socket constantly and already had exterior security lighting, so I took a feed from these and fitted some IP55 rated enclosures. (General Electric from Screwfix). You’ll required to drill a 20-22mm hole for the camera cables. I purchased 240v-12v transformers from Amazon (about 4 each) which worked a charm. Once everything was fitted and secured, I sealed it all with silicone for extra weatherproofing.
I’ve encountered some issues with the latest firmware updates (camera auto checks for updates every night at 0300 hours), but have to say the tech support received has been second to none. There was a minor issue with my SD card not formatting, but this may be down to the cheap card installed and not the camera itself. Again resolved by speaking with tech support and manually formatting the card to FAT32.
My BIGGEST bug bear with these cameras has to be the awful awful motion detection and having to disable it as even at the lowest setting it’s triggered by rain.
I have one more camera to install for the back garden, and my setup will be finished. Despite the issues I’ve had I’d still recommend the camera due to its robust feel, ease of install and aftersales support.
Pros:
*Feel well made
*Good quality image
*Good night vision
*Good quality app
*Great tech support
*Comes with everything required (minus the SD card)
Cons:
*Motion detection triggers constantly – even at the lowest setting
*SD Card port is protected by two tiny tiny screws and if you have to access it high up, they’ll no doubt be lost to the abyss
*Issues with firmware updates
*Video files in NVT3 format requiring Netvue app or desktop application to open
*No current Google Home compatibility
I now have 4 different cameras as I have been trying them out before settling on one make and model to fit throughout mine and my friends houses. This is the camera I am going to use due to its quality and ease of setting up. The attention to detail is the best I have seen so far including a drill bit for mounting the bracket ! It works well with amazon Alexa. The only one slight issue that I am sure I will work out is the motion detection. It is current set 90 degrees to my front door at about 3m distance away and is picking everything up apart from people but I’m sure this will be a set up or configuration issue that I will resolve.
For the picture quality and ease of shared use, i would highly recommend it. For beep factor, i can only give 4/5 stars.
Installed this camera to cover my driveway and front door. Straight out the box powered up and downloaded the Netvue app. Instructions in App were clear and simple to follow, camera connected to app first time with no issues at all. Installed outside with a wifi connection to my router which so far has not dropped out, set up field of view which was easy due to the number of adjustments that could be made to the mounting bracket. Motion sensing was too sensitive initially and was picking up rainfall but a quick adjustment to the sensitivity setting in the App and everything is working perfectly. Solid built camera with fantastic picture quality even at night. Very happy with this purchase.
You only invest in security cameras once you’ve been burgled — I wish I’d bought this before.
This nifty little camera ticks all my boxes. I wanted something that could be connected via wifi or wired ethernet, records onto micro SD card, has motion tracking and also night vision. Picture quality is very good, with both day and night modes — it can record video in pitch black darkness.
Super peace of mind as you can access the camera when you’re out via the app on your phone, and see who’s snooping about. Two way audio in case you want to place at your front door and speak to visitors, even though you may not be home.
Very easy to set up, literally just plug-in-and-play, connect to the app and you’re done. Good value and I feel more secure knowing I have this is place in my home. Burglars beware!
I bought 2 of these Camera’s as they where on offer in the black Friday deals, even without the discount they are great value for money. They are a solid camera, wifi connection, easy to install, app sign up and login very easy, can share the camera link with family members or others (if required), everything is very simple and easy to manager. I have had a couple connection errors but unsure if this is my wifi or weak signal to the cameras. Within a couple days of buying these 2 cameras i have gone and purchased another. Great, Thanks.
I’ve been searching for a good quality, well made, AFFORDABLE home security camera with two way audio after having my house, car, pram and thousands worth of belongings stolen from my home whilst me and my 3 children were inside.
So having two way audio on the Netvue Camera means I can shout if anybody comes close to my front/back doors to scare them away. It saves me having to go anywhere near the doors or Windows if anything happens while living in such a horrible area.
This camera has such a wide angle lens that it easily covers the ALOT of my garden. The picture is ridiculously clear, I am genuinely shocked at the quality!! Extremely happy and will reccomend to everyone I know.
Being able to view the camera on my Fire TV, mobiles or smart watch is the thing I really like about these camera’s! The audio is SO SO clear, the picture quality is fantastic and you are able to see people’s faces clearly for evidence! Even the night vision is just BRILLIANT!!
Super easy to install, great price. I am just so happy with this purchase and feel alot safer after having put it up. The app is very simple and easy to figure out.
I have several CCTV cameras at my home but wanted something for the front door less expensive than a ring doorbell as i could not justify the price, this does everything than Ring does but for a fraction of the price, the image quality is excellent and the motion detection can be altered to suit.
Another thing that impressed me was the length of the power cord, meaning that i didn’t have to pay for an extension of any type, i have several outdoor cameras and the power leads tend to be very small which means buying a waterproof junction box for outside which is how i installed my other camera, not needed with this camera thank goodness.
Just as i had finished setting up the camera i had my first notification on my phone , triggered as my daughter left the house, i was impressed at how clearly i could see her face , i was pleased that i have definatley bought the correct camera for my needs.
overall i cannot fault how the camera performs , the alexa integration and how easy it was ti install..
I bought this camera as I have recently updated my Amazon to the echo show eight and so far it’s been amazing the old camera we had constantly kept breaking and always buffering, it was completely useless. I bought this because it’s compatible with the echo devices and it works flawlessly. The picture is good the sound is good even the microphone from which you can talk through and it talks out the camera is good. The only issue I have found is if you have got it showing on your echo device and you open it up on your phone it will make the echo device buffer, i am sure they will fix this with updates however. Otherwise I do recommend this camera I will update my review if any changes the waterproof rating is meant to be really good. Always make sure you use a class 10 sd card. I am happy with this purchase.
First the negatives, which are not at all major but bear mention.
One reservation is that it needs a large hole behind it to mount without wires remaining outside. About 22mm is what it needs. It would be much better with a wired network connector which could be put inside the mounting.
Another small issue is the motion alert which generates many false alarms, especially at night and in the rain.
The positives are much stronger:
Other than those two reservations, it is a really excellent camera and extremely good value.
I have bought two more already and it may well replace our old hard disk system altogether.
A very good camera
This is the first security camera that we have bought.
It was reasonable easy to set up although I did need to ring the customer support but they were very helpful and worked out the problem within minutes – it was just a case of resetting and holding down a button.
It took my husband half an hour to drill and fix to the wall and he said it was pretty straight forward.
I wanted it to be able to see what wildlife came into the garden rather than use for a security device. We have it set up to view the whole patio area which will also be nice to see the summer flowers when we are on holiday. I think I will change the sensitivity on the app though as it’s being set off by moths and other insects and the app on my phone is pinging at regular intervals notifying of movement – this can be turned off though if you want to.
It also alerts when we open the back door which is good. We’re waiting for the neighbours cats to arrive so that we can use the speak option on the app to shoo it away!
A photo of the offending object is sent through to the app but with the flying insects it’s not clear what set it off.
I chose not to use the cloud option for storage as there is a charge but inserted a memory card instead.
All in all we are very pleased with it and I think it offers good value for money and certainly does what we require of it.
Camera turned up very quickly, well packaged and seems well built.
Set up took all of 5 mins – wireless connection said my wifi was a 5Ghz+ which it says wasnt compatible.. clicked “No its not” and it works fine. Very slight lag in footage but a second at tops.
Fitting was very quick above garage door, camera quality is great for the price.. to be fair its astounding for the price.
The only mark down is at night, the night vision doesnt pick up number plates as they are brightly lit and reflective. Probably down to distance away from camera.
Already ordered a 2nd one for front of the house!
I recently purchased one of these cameras for the front of my house to keep an eye on the front door and car.
I have been so impressed that I am currently installing another one in my back garden.
You have to connect the camera to your wifi on 2.4GHz, which waas easy enough one I realised that I had to temporarily disable 5GHz to complete setup.
Once connected it works with 5GHz enabled.
I am using a wifi extender to connect the camera, as the router is at the back of my house with a few walls in the way.
The camera connected to the extender without problem.
When using the App on cellular data you get a prompt about using mobile data, which is a good thing.
The App is easy to use, especially when playing back recorded footage from the SD card by means of a time stamped slider.
If you want to keep a section of film you can save it to your phone with a record button in the playback screen.
Overall I am very impressed with such a good value camera.
Get a couple, you will not regret it!
This is the third Netvue camera that I have purchased, and the second outdoor unit.
This is a really well designed unit and is constructed of quality materials to a very high standard f finish. I particularly like the fact that there is a sensibly long lead from the unit’s plug to the camera connector, which means it is easy to find an outside mounting spot (such as under the house eaves) which is near enough to connect through a small hole made in the window surround.
Once installed the HD picture is excellent in both day and night modes, and the infra red LEDs have a surprisingly long range lighting up the view several yards away.
All in all an excellent product that I would highly recommend – and at a very competitive price compared with similar units.
For the cost this is a no brainer, very simple to setup and probably took no more than 7 minutes. I had a minor problem setting up due to my mistake. However the live chat feature was right their and was able to support me through the process.
Night vision is perfectly usable and the quality of video is exceptional for the cost, the motion detection hasn’t been perfect yet but the camera is behind glass to test and this is most likely the issue. Apart from that this camera is excellent and I have now purchased 2 more for our house.
Easy to fit and to connect to, you can be up and running within 20 minutes of opening the box. (They even include the drill bit)
The mains adapter is 12v at 1Amp and has a barrel jack on the end of 3meters of thin enough cable to pass through a uPVC window edge when closed and not damage the cameras cable or impair the opening/closing of the window, upto 10m extension cables can be bought on Amazon for a few ‘s if needed.
Don’t be put off by the subscription service which isn’t cheap, you don’t really need it!, Just mount the camera out of reach and insert a large enough SD card for your needs.
All I did was to pop a 16gb micro SD card into it which gives me around 36 hrs of continuous video and audio recording, if you need more just stick anything up to a 128gb card in and you’ll potentially have over 10 days of recordings before the camera writes over the oldest files.
The motion detection feature is also very good. For the first week or so after registration you get free motion video storage which saves a short video in the cloud everytime motion is detected, alerts come through to your phone or tablet and you can either see the live footage or the saved video clip stored on the cloud.
After the free trial the camera still records continuously and alerts you to motion but instead of a video clip stored on the Netvue cloud you get three consecutive snapshots of what triggered the motion (see images attached) if you need to see the video stored on your SD card for that event, you can click on the play video icon at the bottom of the image and you can access full video and audio of what was in the snap shot. Netvue keeps 14 days of these snap shots on their server, but the video you recorded onto SD card can only be viewed back by however many days you can fit on your SD card. So the bigger the SD card the better.
One more tip, don’t mount the camera close to anything directly in front of it which is white or reflective (like a white drain pipe or light coloured wall) I had to re-angle the camera as the infrared LEDs are powerful enough to reflect of off the light coloured sandtex on my wall causing the iris to adust on the camera spoiling night vision, as you can see the night time shot I’ve added is crystal clear in an area with no outside lighting and the camera is mounted around 12ft from the ground.
Lastly…The camera continues to record even if your internet goes down briefly, although you’ll not have the motion snap shots the footage is still stored on the SD card.
The app could be improved by allowing you to 2x 4x 8x fast forwarding through footage instead of moving the timeline and Netvue keeps advertising human detection AI etc but even if you pay for the full cloud 14 day recording service at 6.99 a month I can’t see any human detection settings in the app.
Overall I loved this camera so much I’ve bought another one for the rear of the property!
For the money you can’t fault this, I have been thinking of a ring door bell for ages but the price and fact that our door is on the side of the house put me off so the security part of it wouldn’t work.
What can I say, this is an excellent bit of kit for the money. I set it up on the phone in the kitchen and added a 128GB SD card.
The only thing that lets the camera down is the RJ45 cable as this has meant that I have had to mount an ip55 rated box and feed the wiring into this, then the power lead down some conduit before it goes into the house. It would be nice if this plug was demountable so the thinner lead could be fed through a wall and all connections made inside.
Picture wise, I can see all my drive and identify people at the front door. I have set my camera about 2.5m high and a fair distance from the door behind my side gate.
In the dark the night vision picks up a face at the front door and it was good enough that I could see it was me.
Voice function works well.
I’ve had a few issues setting up the motion activated so need to play around with that. But having the SD means that it is always recording anyway.
Fitting on the wall and adjustment is easy.
The app was simple to work through as was pairing the camera. I have managed to share the app and camera with my wife’s phone so she can make use.
Considering how much more expensive other products are for me this has exceeded my expectations and I will see how I go with it.
Update a year on.
Still working good, I had to change the SD but they may have been due to write issues, a new one worked fine.
Still works as well night vision is brill, still can’t fault it for the money. Well done Netvue.
I really like my NETVUE 1080P Security Camera. The picture quality is sharp both in night and day mode and the 2-way sound feature surprisingly clear. What I especially like is the Netvue app which I feel is just as important as the camera itself. The app is not just used to manage the camera once installed but is also used to set up the camera with the assistance of in-app videos help videos if needed. I did have to tweak the motion detection setting so as to trigger notifications only when people came to the door and not by birds and flying insects, but now set it works fine. I’ve manged to get the camera picture to display on my TV using an Amazon Fire TV stick and an Echo Dot, took a bit of setting up but now looks great. Overall very good camera with an excellent app.
I have 3 of these now and think they are brilliant.
Setting them up was abit tricky to figure out changing our router to 2.4 ghz as the cameras will only connect on 2.4. But once I figured that out the cameras connected to the app easily. Being wireless means having less wires to trace to a controllers, only needing just plugging in to the mains.
Picture quality and sound is fairly good, playback is easy to access through the netvue app and motion detection is a good addition. Sending a notification to your phone and also through your Alexa devices.
Nice looking system, easy to install, set up and use with the simple and well laid out app.
Good picture quality as well.
My only issue is the length of the cable on the unit itself. Its quite short so unless you can place it near a window or are prepared to drill a large hole in the wall for the cable to go through, you are limited as to where you can put it.
I would like to see a 1m cable on the unit, which would help with improved situation of the camera.
But that’s really it, and the only thing for me that prevents it getting a full 5* review.
This a truly amazing piece of equipment for the cost, I have set it up using both the supplied information in the box and also some very good you tube guides. I have also linked to my echo show and echo fire and can now ask Alexa to “show me my “front door” see image below, the motion sensor works very and reports them to you on the the phone app. As a installation tip I suggest you set it all up in doors and get it linked to the wifi etc before you screw it to its final position so you know it works, all the settings are stored when powered off so you can disconnected it from the power supply install it in the required position and then power it back up again.
After purchasing my first Netvue camera, I was very impressed with how easy to get the camera up and running. It is so simple!
Download the app, follow the instuctions, scan the camera Q code and it links the camera to your network.
The quality is excellent even during night time.
The motion detect facility is brilliant.
Connecting to Alexa was equally as easy, and she announces any movement, and then you can ask Alexa to show you the camera.
Another advantage is to have two way communication via the camera.
I was so impressed I bought another one!!
Excelle
First of all would you believe it came with a masonry drill, the first product I have purchased with that!!! I looked at all the questions and answers on the Amazon netvue product listing as the small instruction booklet virtually only covered a few basics. It appears that all the setting up has to be done on a smart phone etc even formatting the SD card. After a short while every setting was set up and the camera was temporary fixed in an easy access location to run and ensure all was as required. When I put the SD card into my computer all I got was a load of googly gooch (nvt3) so I contacted the help desk by email and got sent a download that would read the video files ok. When I viewed the videos I was very surprised at the excellent picture quality for a budget camera as this, even the night videos were first rate looking at a range of approx. 10M. All in all I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this camera to anyone looking for an excellent budget surveillance camera.
They are easy to maintain and excellent in day and night time but human detection could be better.
Support is quite good with a few improvements in the pipeline.
SINCE BUYING THIS THEIR SUPPORT IS NOW NON-EXISTENT!
AN AUTOMATIC UPODATE TO FIRMWARE 1333 HAS RENDERED MY CAMERA USELESS!
QUERIES GO UNANSWERED!
Update 12 Oct 2020.
Netvue have finally come up trumps and sent me a replacement camera.
My thanks to Anna from Netvue
The actions of Anna certainly signals a big improvement in Customer Service!
The app is easy to use and the installation is very simple as long as you plan where to feed any cables that are needed.
Power supply is a good length also.
Picture quality is good, day and night vision. I have only just installed the cameras so time will tell regarding the weatherproofing of the cameras.
All in all, impressive for the price.
I would say, the fact you have to pay for cloud storage and motion detection separately on each camera rather than just on your account isn’t good, for example I have 3x cameras, meaning I would need to pay around $270 a year (if I pay annually rather than monthly to save money) just to have cloud storage and motion detection on my cameras, which is a bit of a rip off.
First venture in to cctv, so far impressed with build quality and ease of setup, picture quality and night vision seems pretty good for price, will probably end up using lan connection as installed higher up than recommended so probably on edge of WiFi coverage as have had a few disconnects but fine most of the time
The Netvue 1080p bullet cam is a cracking little camera for a short to medium range garden, the notifications are very prompt, I decided to send mine back due to it being hd, if I had looked into cctv cameras a little more first I would have realised I needed an ultra hd camera (for capturing vehicle number plates at the far end of my drive, approx 40m) I also bought the indoor camera with pan and tilt function, this is a brilliant camera for keeping an eye on any room in the house, all in all you can’t go wrong with any of netvues cameras.
Took a gamble on this camera as I’m wanting to uprate my security due to a new car purchase.
Absolute doddle to install, I mounted it quite high up overlooking my driveway.
The drill bit supplied with the kit is poor, ensure you buy a good quality masonry 7mm drill bit to make matters easier.
Setup through the app is straight forward, although I had to switch off 5ghz WiFi on my router in order to install it on 2.4ghz bandwidth ( easy).
The good thing about this camera is that you can slowly add further cameras as and when funds allow, and with a years free cloud storage ( info in box) , it’s a no brainer.
I bought a junction box to neaten up the camera wiring ( essential) 1.59 from screw fix.
Installed a 128gb SD card as backup to the cloud based storage on offer.
Camera has AI human detection to differentiate between animals and humans, 2 way voice intercom, motion alerts, you can set alert field to only cover certain areas. All in all total bargain, high quality, great performance.
Can’t wait to add a doorbell, and further cameras so I have full 360′ coverage of my property.
Extras I’d recommend:
7mm masonry drill bit ( for fixing cam to brick) and junction box to wall.
Suitable length masonry drill bit to drill a hole through internal wall out to external .
Screwfix item 30356 – Box & Knockouts 88 x 88 x 53mm
Silicone sealant or expanding foam for holes drilled through brickwork.
If you have cloud -if your camera is stolen, it will captures those stealing it and store it.
If you do not have cloud, and memory card only, then if your camera is stolen, so is the evidence !! Mount it out of the way!
Can be configured wirelessly. No need to use Ethernet cables.
The configuration is easy using the App
Picture quality is very good
2 way sound
Trigger zone can be modified
Dislikes
Could not connect to the Server using recommended wi-fi. Using the QR Code it worked
After placing the camera it lost the signal and I had to dismount it, to be reconfigured.
Neutral
The SD (TF) Card needs to be formatted using the App, which was surprising but simple. I had already formatted the card. When done the card is “mounted”
Some alerts reappear after deletion.
Baring in mind the price of this camera I really am blown away with everything about it, the build quality is superb, picture quality is of much the same standard with night mode again of really great quality, love the fact with the motion sensor (yet to thoroughly test) you can turn off on sections of the screen as with my camera facing a road its nice to be able to turn that section off yet still have it working where the camera covers the cars (hope that makes sense) I really am blown away with the camera so far and look forward to running it through it paces and further test in the weeks to come
We have two of these cameras set up to protect our holiday house in Spain.
They are very very easy to set up.
I took another reviewers suggestion of putting all of the wires in a junction box outside, as the cables are too bulky as a group to easily put through the wall, so I just put the power cable through.
The picture is great and it’s a little additive watching it!
Night vision is very impressive.
Haven’t had any problems with the motion sensor. It’s only pointing at our property so not getting cars or anything.
App works well and the live chat has been responsive with questions.
Can’t really go wrong for the price. Not that much more expensive than dummy cameras!

I have just fitted two of the Vigil cameras outside. They were very easy to put up and set up. My Wifi signal is quite poor with the router I have, but I am having it replaced shortly, still I am able to get alerts from the front and back of the house with good visibility during the day and night. I have put micro sd cards in both and they will record motion when detected. In fact you can have the camera on all the time and watch what is hapenning minute by minute. What is also good, is the fact that you can designate not only the areas which are going to be sensed, but also the sensitivity which saves having the alarm being raised every time a bird or cat crosses the viewing area. I can certainly reccomend this camera.
This security camera is a nice compact unit, very well built with a solid adjustable mounting arm. It is excellent value for money and a great starting camera for monitoring your home. Connection to your Wi-Fi is a breeze, you will just need to download the Netview App, scan the camera’s barcode with your phone or tablet using the App, and follow the step by step instructions which are very clear. You will also need to have your Wi-Fi password to hand which is normally located under your router (modem). If you intend to have the camera record any motion events, make sure that you pre format a micro SD card (no bigger than 128gb) to the FAT32 standard before inserting it, or it will not work as intended. If this camera is to be placed outside (which is likely) you need to purchase a weatherproof housing for the cables which will cost around 7 and this will keep everything watertight.
I needed a camara at the front of the house that was easy to use that could be accessed when away from home. This is not my first NETVEW camara and it will not be my last. Very easy to use and setup took about 5 minutes to do. The picture quality is very good and when reviewing on the app you can zoom in, night vision is good and keeps its clarity and the motion detection is editable so reduces false alarms. This is a great item for the price and easy to install just plug it in, link to the wifi and off you go.
The camera was easy to connect to the WiFi, the picture quality is great both day and night vision. The speaker is a bit intermittent, but, that could be due to being connected to WiFi. The motion sensor seems to be great, the only problem I have had is it alerts me when it rains, this has only occured on the night vision so far. I turned down the sensitivity but then it doesn’t pick up the gate opening! Message alerts can be turned off or set between times of your choosing. All in all,it does the job nicely, great value for money!
As stated above, this thing is awesome. couple it with a 64GB micro SD card and you can record up to a month of playback direct from the camera to your iOS / Android device. Picture quality when on a good stable Wi-Fi connection is on point. Not tested it over Ethernet as I don’t have any PoE kit, but with the quality over the air, there’s not much point I don’t think.
The 2 way audio is a great addition to this however if it’s windy then I don’t think the mic is that well insulated, but speaking to people over it really freaks people out (in a funny way)
The device is super easy to connect to the Wi-Fi, the instructions are very clear and if you do have any issues, the online chat is fast and they are very knowledgeable.
Overall brilliant purchase and I will be adding more to my home over time.
One very happy customer.
Great quality images,as good as the much more costly rivals even In Night mode. Slight lag when talking to outside but enough to get your point across to an unwanted guest. Bought 3 more. Also purchased the indoor orb camera so they all appear in the same app. Cable rather chunky so drilled a 20mm hole through the wall which we slotted some conduit through. Also worth combining with a smart plug incase a reboot is needed (after an update, but the most recent updayes have not needed this ) when you are away from home. Seems that netvue have improved the way they update software don’t crash as much as they did 2 years ago
The unboxing is generally a good guide to a companies first impression on your prized piece of gadetry. As can be seen in the photo’s the Camera comes well packaged and complete with the following. Masonary drill bit, three rawl plugs and three screws, including a paper drilling template, it includes a allen key for adjustment of the housing . However the only thing you might need if you dont have a spare one handy is to buy a new micro-sd card of 32Gb or greater, i think maximum is 128Gb . Once connected up to the power for the first time ensure that you have pre formatted the sd card prior to fitment, otherwise this could be an frustrating trip up the ladder. I would recommend testing in the house first with also downloading the android / ios app to your device. It was quite a simple method of adding device on the netvue app and only took me two attempts. Once connected it provides a nice chirp. The camera provides a very clear crisp image and also records audio. At the time of writing i have used the Vigil camera for about a week and would recommend the quality of live video and recording, you can also set it to notify you of motion detection which is very good. I only have one real gripe in that on a motion capture the audio appears to be lagged from video ever so slightly this might be improved by using the hard wired Ethernet connection as i have chosen the easier option of connecting to a wifi extender downstairs.
I desperately needed a security camera and I am so glad I got this. After a bit of fiddling to get it connected(straight to wifi) it’s so good. I can see perfectly to the bottom of my 100ft garden and beyond day or night and even during a downpour. The picture quality is amazing and the sound is very clear, the only thing I had to adjust was the fact the top of the camera was the wrong way up when using the drill guide but a 30 second fix using the Allen key provided. It even came with the drill bit.
Fantastic camera and motion detection service for the price. Really simple to install and set up and the camera quality is really good.
I’ve set up two cameras, one in the garden and one on the drive. The app is quite simple to use and switch between cameras.
I researched a few security cameras in this price range and went with Netvue because of the positive reviews and it was a wise choice. Really pleased with it.
This is my second camera and I am absolutely amazed on the quality.
Materials used on the chasis are very strong, it feels heavy and robust.
Packaging is well done, with proper guidance and you get even a drill bit for your already low budget.
This feels indeed like a premium product, similar to what you get from big companies and I am totally sure this needs to be advertised properly.
Mobile app is pleasant, very intuitive and setup was very quick. You get a trial of 14 days of free motion cloud recording, which is anyway very cheap at just 2$ per month.
Video quality is top notch and WiFi signal is impressive.
Thumbs up for Netvue!
I purchased this item having seen about the good Netvue app and was attracted by the price on Amazon. Although the reviews were good, I was still amazed by the quality of the item and the ease of setup. I especially liked that the app provided instruction videos on stages which could be challenging for some. It really took the stress out of setup.
I have yet to install it outdoors but having had a go this evening, it in theory could actually be pointed outside from a window if you turn the infrared off as long as there is adequate lighting outside.
I like the motion detection and the really good microphone and speaker for two-way conversation.
It’s important to remember the low price here. It’s not a high value camera and with that in mind I cannot believe what you get for the money. If you want something better then it will no doubt come at a higher cost, for the money I cannot see how this could be any better.
Previously purchased one of these cameras and so impressed with the picture quality and function that I have now purchased this second one.
The wide viewing angle is a particularly good feature. There are multiple joints on the base bracket that allow you to get the pitch and angle of coverage just right. The quality of picture is excellent in day mode and very good in night mode. You can see enough detail for identification in night mode at 10 – 15 metres.
The only issue I have ever had was, following the installation of an SD card, the unit kept crashing after a few days .. I had my suspicions that the card was either faulty or a fake and sure enough after replacing with a known good card the issue did not reoccur.
Motion detection uploads pictures to the netvue cloud and records video to the SD card (approx 15 days rolling.
Highly recommended camera at very good price.
Very simple setup and installation. It comes with a lengthy power lead which makes life simple and plugs straight into you power socket. The wifi setup is aided by a barcode type system and it was up and running in minutes. The camera only works on 2.4 broadband so you may have to disconnect your high speed broadband while setting up but that’s simple enough if your installing the camera yourself. If I was going to make any suggestions it would be to have a single cable at the camera end to prevent the need to hide away or ‘bury’ the LAN and reset button but this is a design problem i guess. Overall, a fantastic camera especially for the price.
Good camera easy to set up. Picture quality is good day and night.
Motion detection gives you a short video but this is only a trial. You then get about 3 photos which is sufficient. Sound is only on live. No sound on play back. Yes I would buy another and probably will for rear of house
This is a very neat camera, slightly larger than some I have seen but it works very well. Pretty easy to install once you drill th whole to connect power if you’re using it outside. Pleased to see the software has many functions which I can use remotely which is useful when I travel. The detail is very clear, but you need to decide how sensitive you want to set the motion detector- ie limit it’s focus or times when in operation. This can all be done from the app. Night vision is fine too. I am thinking of getting another.
I purchased one camera, installed very easily and decided to add more – another 2 also purchased through Amazon.
Really pleased with camera – very, very, very easy to setup with the app and simple to use features for pretty much everything I needed.
Wi-Fi connection has been great, with no drop outs and great range on different parts of the house.
Night vision is great and easily highlights everything on my drive and motion alarm works perfectly too, with easy configuration of where you want the camera to look for activity and during which times of the day.
In fact the hardest part of installation was drilling and mounting to the wall – a quick tip, if you want to mount flush to the wall with the cables routing through the wall you’ll need a 20mm drill bit.
All in all very pleased and happy to recommend to anyone looking for a simple, easy to use and reliable camera setup.
So needing cameras for the garden as my previous ones broke. I’ve had a nightmare trying to get the right type, I needed 2 way audio which ironically are harder to get than you think when you need other features too. The features I needed had to have 2 way audio, a good night vision, sync to an app for my mobile phone and a camera i can actually select a motion area for so I’m not recording or receiving notifications for areas outside of my garden.
Thrid time lucky as they say… Well with this it certainly was. So easy to set up I timed it and including unboxing took me a whole 15 mins to get it all out box antenna on etc. It can be set up both via WiFi or ethernet cable (I chose WiFi so can’t comment on the other method) Extra 2 minutes for the downloading of the app but that doesn’t count lol (your best downloading the app and signing up to NETVUE so then when you are u boxing it’s literally just straight to set up as email needs verification like most accounts these days). It synced not a problem and there’s a major bonus with this camera!!!… It works on my fire stick and my echo show 5 so we can view it on our TV too. There is also options to use a subscription. The options includes either motion detection or 24/7 record which upon looking at is a lot cheaper than most and from a brand that’s highly respected.
The picture quality is fantastic both day and night time. My surprise is the price of this my previous brand of the same quality was nearly 4x the price I paid for this.
Like it that much I’ve ordered another for the front door because I’ve clearly this time found what I need for why I need it without losing features and actually gaining features due to it working with certain Alexa enabled devices.
Recommended this. It’s a budget price but certainly no budget camera.
There are a lot of cameras out there so deciding which one took a little bit of research. My only ‘must have’ was that it could be viewed on the Echo Show and Fire TV, the Netvue Vigil was chosen because of the mainly positive reviews and of course the Amazon Lightning Deal! I also ordered a 128Gb Micro SD and a 3m DC extension cable.
Fixing the camera was fairly easy. The template, drill bit, screws and plugs were a great bonus. The DC extension cable goes outside via the hinge side of a PVC opening window. The cable is thin enough that it goes between the rubbers without a problem when closing the window and it can be taped to the inside of the frame to keep it in place.
Setting up to the network however was troublesome. My router froze up and had to be reset a couple of times while trying to connect the camera, I eventually opted for the QR generation method that worked straight away.
The quality of the picture is fantastic and the night view is amazing. The motion is a bit hit and miss but I do live on a main road and there is a lot of moving shadows from passing cars and headlight reflections at night. This is not a deal breaker for me so I ordered another one for the back garden.
The network setting up on the second one was as bad if not worse than the first with my router freezing up again. I’m fairly tech savvy and discovered that it had connected to the router and obtained an IP address but not added itself to the app. I went through the setup again and chose the ethernet option without a cable attached, this time it did the device bind and appeared on the app working on wifi.
Despite the setup issues that I experienced I’m very pleased with the cameras and will rate accordingly as the setup issues could be down to the router.
This camera has a good image during the day and at night. There is a memory card slot to record and store your own images. However they are designed to be used with a subscription service.
Once the motion sensor is triggered, an image is sent to your phone, you then can download the video that shows what triggered the sensor. Sometimes the still image doesn’t show what had triggered the sensor, so the video is very important. The triggered video and images can be kept with the subscription service for 14 days. Or if stored on a memory card, until this data gets over written with new video.
There are two negatives to this camera I have found so far. One is the cable set up, two the lag/jumps in filming. The lag/jumps could be down to WiFi signal as I do not have them attached via Ethernet cables. The wires are another story.
As seen in the photos, there is a short cable that is weather proof (white) and a black indoor power cable. If you are fixing this camera onto an outside wall, you will need to drill a hole large enough to fit all the cable connects and WiFi button through as the cable is fixed in the camera housing. You also are restricted to the length of the power cable inside to a socket.
For what it is designed for, I would recommend this product.
This is the second of these outdoor security cameras from netvue that I’ve purchased, I was really impressed with the first one which I have pointed at my front door as a more reliable option to the Ring doorbell and now want to extend the coverage around the house with this one.
Setup was simple and worked for me without a hitch, I use the WiFi option which is really consistent and setting up for use with Alexa is simple and works really well as do the motion detection notifications.
Really have nothing bad to say about this, especially for the price. Very happy!
The Alexa interface is excellent and is easy to setup. It plays as soon as requested on my Echo Show (2nd Gen) and the picture quality of both devices is excellent. Using the App you can communicate both ways and the speech back and forth is easily audible (there is a slight lag). If the camera is mounted quite high, you may need to turn the sound up slightly in the App?
Night vision (as well as day vision), is very good also and there is no issues seeing things at the distance the product claims under infrared.
You can setup the movement detection albeit the sensitivity may need to be ‘tweaked’…It does pick up the slightest movement, especially at night with infrared (spiders, moths etc.). You can also easily setup zones which will be either in or out of the detection area; all this in the App once again.
The cameras are very well made and robust. They are I believe aluminium alloy and powder coated. The finish is of high quality and you know the product will last for years…
As I said, I was very impressed with the one and now have three. They all work through the App very well and you can share easily with others if you wish, viewing anywhere in the world so long as you have a network to log onto of course!
I also have an indoor one now (the one that rotates etc.) and this is as well made and performs as well as it’s outdoor siblings.
Excellent product / company / App…
I used an 85cm square junction box (pack of 4 on Amazon 14.99) to hide the cables and to save drilling a large hole through the wall. The push out grommets left exactly the right size hole to push the internet cable through and to coil up inside the box. it was only necessary then to drill a smaller diameter hole for the power cable through the back of the junction box. The brick work on my garage was very hard so I started off using a small masonry drill and gradually building up in diameter. The template for drilling holes o mount the camera was very useful, and so was the small black plastic cap for the power cable, it kept dust from the connector when pushing he cable through the wall. Image is good quality and the app is useful, works well with Alexa show. You can also speak via the camera using the app – although whether the dog will know its us talking when he’s digging up the garden is another matter. I’m with BT and had a few problems trying to connect with the dual band router and had to use the QR scan generated by the app. Planning to buy more , cameras but first waiting to see how this one settles after a week or so..
For the price you can’t realy go too wrong, was easy to setup, for installation i had to get a 10m 12v extension lead in order to run the power to a plug socket, they also included the drill bit and template to drill the filling holes, which is a nice touch. The picture quality both day and night is good for the price, night vision is relatively clear. The only issue i have is the motion sensor, regardless of how low i set the sensitivity, i get a lot of notifications of movement, im guessing its the sun coming up, as it doesnt happen at night or during the afternoon once the sun has passed over the house.
All in all for the money is bang on, i will definitely consider getting more in the future.
Nice external camera for out door. couldnt able to connect through WiFi. I have run an ethernet cable and all works well.
– Solid mounting plate. Come with fixings and even a drill bit.
– I would suggest getting a weatherproof box for the connections or drill a big enough hole for the connections to fit through the wall.
– Power adaptor has a decent length of cable on it.
– Setup is nice and simple through the app, QR Code is a doddle.
– I have purchased a 128gb card and its recording continues.
I was looking for an external camera and after ordering and returning a couple of camera’s I discovered the Netvue 1080p Outdoor Security. I wanted an Camera that not only was robust for outdoor use, but had a great App with a “professional” , easy to use UI.
The Netvue arrived from Amazon in the Netvue box. The quality of the box just shouted ‘well made’ — When I took the camera out of the packaging to my surprise everything was there… LITERALLY. From the camera itself to the wall mounting template, screws, raw plugs and EVEN the drill bit — YES the drill bit!
The camera is well made — Solid! For the price, this camera just screamed QUALITY. I plugged the camera in whilst indoors. Download the App, then go through the setup process including connecting to WIFI. One thing I was so pleased about was the App — It’s clean, it’s fast and easy to navigate. So much better than other Apps I’ve seen and used. This App is well made.
Setup was easy, 10 minutes and you’re done. I did run into a small problem whilst connecting to my WIFI — but help is on hand. Within the App you can chat to technical support which I did. it was instant, they answered within 30 seconds, knew the answer to my query and I managed to finish setup. They stayed online chatting with me to make sure everything went through Okay, which it did.
I opted for the Cloud Motion Detection – Such a good feature. Because Netvue supply all the kit to install the Camera, installation was easy.
Over all, 5 Stars +
I have had a couple of “how to” queries after a couple of days, and just went onto online chat — Again they knew the answers with no delays ever since installation the camera has worked flawlessly.
As of today I couldn’t be more happy with this camera – I’d go as far to say that I am considering replacing my Nest cameras with these as they are just as good a quality but so much better value.
I managed to install one wirelessly and one with a wired connection. Both options are easy. The app is simple to use and the notifications are brilliant. Cloud storage is cheaper than other brands but you can also install a memory card which isnt an option with the Nest.
I have purchased other outdoor cameras FROM Amazon and none of them are as good as this unit, but are sold in the same price bracket. I’m hoping that my satisfaction continues.
– Nice external camera, one thing I’m not too keen on it the size of the antenna! On the plus side better WiFi connection.
– Solid mounting plate. Come with fixings and even a drill bit.
– Can be connected via WiFi or Ethernet. Weatherproof gland is also provided for the RJ45 connection. Id suggest getting a weatherproof box for the connections or drill a big enough hole for the connections to fit through the wall.
– Power adaptor has a decent length of cable on it.
– Setup is nice and simple through the app, QR Code is a doddle.
– Excellent video quality
– Good 2way audio
– Nice that you can use an SD card instead of subscribing to a cloud account also having it just to record on motion makes finding events easy!
– Motion alerts works well and is adjustable to suit
– You can now even get Alexa to let you know if the camera detects motion! I really like this feature
– Integrates into Alexa well, great to be able to call up live video on my Echo show!
– Night vision is nice and clear, you also have the ability to turn this off so the camera stay in “day” mode or you can always have it in “night” mode.
Netvue is constantly updating and adding neat little features to there devices. I am very pleased with all my Netvue products. This is my now my 12th Netvue product! Recommend!
I have several Netvue products now ranging from bullet cameras and a doorbell. For the price they pack a whole lot of punch. I’ve had some issues with them but they have boiled down to Wi-Fi connectivity. If you can hard wire them into a hub all the better. When I have had issues the live chat and customer support has been very responsive and helpful. Next on my list are some indoor cameras.
I have tried a number of brands of “security camera” and this is the brand I have kept and recommended to my friends.
These cameras are fairly easy to set up, provided you turn off the 5ghz band on dual frequency modem/wi-fi. Once set up turn the dual bands back on, all cameras seem to use 2.5ghz for setting up.
The App with Apple IOS is fairly simple to use and easily changeable from camera to camera.
Taking a video or a still shot is straight forward, just press the icon in the camera’s screen.
Talking to or listening to callers is again very straightforward.
If you want automatic videos, then you need to subscribe to Netvue, per camera which with multiple cameras can mount up money wise.
You can turn on and off notifications of “movements”. Only hassle I seem to have is that night mode responds not only to heat but light. I have some interesting videos and shots of moths, spiders etc.
Obviously Netvue have their dedicated software which is not compatible with other brands, but it is compatible with Google and Alexa, which is a great convenience.
I am pleased with this product. The box comes with everything you need inside. Fixings, Allen key and even a small screwdriver.
The booklet is easy to follow, with most set up with your smartphone using QR codes using your phone camera.
Usage. Motion detection is very flexible.
Sensitivity option levels, I do like.
a grid of view to ignore sections completely (e.g. a neighbours floodlight, or a waving bush in the wind)
Monitoring time options. Allowing times when to not monitor at all, when you expect movement but don’t want to record it.
Night vision tends to be triggered by moths, but not a big issue.
Cabling options allow a cat5 cable option too, is nice. It uses 12volts, so I made my own cable allowing my camera on Wi-fi to be in the corner of a garden looking at the house.
The cloud storage is simple but would be pricey if you wanted a number of these cameras. I opt for buying an additional SD card that records only the events and don’t predict a criminal would steal my camera.
Netvue also do video doorbells and with Ring doorbell excluded from my options, as I am uncomfortable with Amazon now owning Ring, I will likely be buying other Netvue products such as their doorbell.
An easy out of box setup I powered the Vigil camera, and did the initial setup before mounting outside, I like the options of ether using a Wi-Fi connection or if you want to use ethernet and run a wire option to the camera the option is there. I setup using Wi-Fi, It added to the app with a few short steps with easy instructions at every step
Once added naming was easy then adjusting the motion zones was easy to do within the app then tapping zones that you wanted the camera to trigger along with the sensitivity
It’s a well-built Camera that ships with everything in the box to fix it up and to get you setup and running, camera has a very good microphone and the HD resolution for photo day or night
Netvue are always developing the software on the phone and cameras do get firmware updates so very happy with package would strongly recommend
Once fitted to wall in correct location plug in and and wait for camera to come on. Then launch your app and add the camera to the app using the bar code reader. Then wait for the camera to connect to your wifi and you’re all set.
I opened up the back of my camera and added a small micro SD card so I can record video without using the cloud service. Works well.
I particularly love the night vision on this camera, it is so powerful even in middle of dark night.
The audio works well for speaking, but there is a slight delay, due to wifi transmission. This might work quicker with a wired ethernet connection.
Motion detection works well. I think I need to turn up the sensitivity on mine to catch everything properly.
Video is HD, a little bit pixellated but overall very good quality.
Very pleased with this latest addition to my netvue family.
I own a Netvue Orb cam and have installed a few for family members but this was my first expereince with outdoor cams and WOW!
* Very well made (like the Orb cams).
* VERY heavy duty – mostly metal casing which isn’t obvious from the photos. See attached pic for more info.
* No need for a home hub or similar to link devices.
* Super-fast set-up (about 2mins per cam from unboxing).
* Fittings for mounting – including a drill bit for the smaller screws.
* Option for Micro-SD installation which can be accessed through the Netvue app so no need for cloud storage.
* High quality, good range nightvision.
* Really good price for the money.
All-in-all you really can’t go wrong for the price!
I bought my first parts to a NetVue system about 9 months ago and I have continued to be impressed by its solidity and the ease of its use. The App works like a dream on the mobile phone and it is simplicity itself to add new cameras and extend the system. I have increased the number of cameras I have internally, but until this point I have not have anything external. This camera was delightfully easy to install and then to mount from the eaves on the roof. The quality of the image it provides during both day and night is excellent and it adapts between the two modes. I like the way that it allows you to choose which areas of the image it is taking should trigger the motion alert. I think that the alert to your phone in relation to movement is an excellent feature and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sound that the camera can generate allowing you to interact with anyone in the vicinity.
This is the 4th edition to my Netvue family. I now have full coverage inside and outside my house which gives me peace of mind living alone. The outdoor camera was simple to set up once I had decided where I wanted it and arrange for a power source etc. Works excellent over Wi-Fi but also has Ethernet if out of wifi range. Excellent night view and the motion detection works well….too well but you can tweak the sensitivity in settings depending on your environment. Netvue cameras are excellent for the price and the app is simple to use and gives you a view of all your cameras.
I will definitely be purchasing another for the rear of my house.
This is the sixth Netvue camera I’ve bought but the first outdoor camera and it delivers exactly what I was looking for. Excellent daytime picture quality which can easily be zoomed into with very little loss of image quality. Night time video is good, faces are easily discernible over a good distance.
Easily installed with three screws holding the camera to the wall, the cable will need to be run indoors for power. Camera setup and connection is simple with clear instructions.
Motion notification system is extremely useful and highly customisable. Motion areas can be set in the app along with motion sensitivity. SD card recording allows for reviewing footage later.
All round brilliant camera at excellent price point.
*** EDIT ***
I have now purchased a second Vigil camera, after using the first one for a few months im amazed at the quality of the recordings. I use the motion detection features so it only records when it detects something in the garden, works really well. I really cant praise these cameras highly enough
Setup in the garden to monitor our backdoors, attached it to the side of the garage, the hardest part of the setup was drilling through the brick/cinderblock to run the powercable. Everything you need is included (including a masonry drillbit helpfully), and the drillhole diagram is very useful.
Setup on the wifi was easy, its been running for a couple of days now and had no problems, if anything the motion sensor is a little too sensitive out the box, but you can change this in the app. The night vision mode is alot better than expected.
Overall id say this is a quality piece of kit, i’m thinking of getting one for the front of the house too, would definitely recommend.
Set up is incredibly easy. It takes about two minutes to configure the camera with your internet router and then about half an hour to an hour to secure to a wall and wire up. But before you install the camera onto a wall you must first configure the camera to your internet router. To do this just follow the steps below:
1. Firstly download the Netvue app on your smartphone which can be found on the app store.
2. Secondly plug the camera into a power socket.
3. Thirdly click ‘add device’ on the Netvue app and scan the barcode located on the device using your smartphone camera. You then choose your type of internet connection (i.e wired or wireless) and connect to your router using your router username and password. Once this is successful you are ready to secure the camera to a wall.
The camera simply fits to a wall via three wall plugs and three screws, all supplied in the box. Even the drill bit is included in the box for ease. At this stage its important to line your camera up by hand into the position it should be pointing in so you can get a good idea on where to position your raw plugs.
The camera has one lead coming from it which cannot be removed. This one leads then splits into three separate leads at the end (one is for the power cable, one is for an ethernet cable if you were to connect to your router via a wired cable and the other is a reset button). Its important to keep the ends of the three separate leads dry to increase the cameras lifespan. To solve this, if the camera is positioned right next to a house you may be able to feed the cable straight into the house, but if the camera is a few metres from the house, like mine, i simply purchased a small outdoor weatherproof junction box to keep the ends of the three cables in which i also drilled to a wall. From here I simply had one slim cable leaving the junction box (which was the power cable) and that went straight into the house through a window. I didn’t have an ethernet connection wire as I chose to set my camera up via wireless connection.
The length of the first wire which splits into three isn’t long, probably about 30cm at a guess. The length of the power cable is about 3m. A longer power cable can be purchased through Amazon if required, I purchased a 5m power cable which came to around 5, its a male to female lead, 12v, 2.1 x 5.5mm.
In addition to the weatherproof junction box and extension power cable (if required), is a micro SD card should you want all footage to be recorded and saved. You don’t have to purchase one, the camera will still show live footage from a smartphone, but that live footage will not be saved anywhere without. I purchased a 32GB Class 10 Samsung micro SD card which worked as soon as I plugged it into the camera. There is an option to save all footage to a cloud service via the Netvue app, but there is a monthly charge for this. Once the SD card is installed you don’t need to touch it again. The camera will start to record and save all footage to the SD card and once the SD card is full to capacity, the camera will start overwriting the oldest footage available.
The quality of the picture the camera creates is excellent. I have attached a daytime and night time image for info. Another thing to note is out of my five CCTV cameras, the Netvue camera has the strongest connection to my wi-fi connection, this is major factor when purchasing outdoor cameras as weak wi-fi signals create a very poor user experience.
Overall I am very happy with my purchase and will certainly look at purchasing more in the future.
Style
There are two main styles of outdoor security cameras: dome and bullet. This is a bullet style camera un like the done style it provides a visual deterrent. Whereas a some is usually used to be almost covert bullet cameras are like the ones you see used by your local council on the most part.
Lens
The wider the angle of the lens on a security camera, the more area it will be able to cover. This is important when it comes to covering large areas such as a backyard or for larger properties. This camera has a very wide angle without losing quality or ability to see who it is entering your property. The lens is clear and bright giving great image and angle of view
Night vision
Home surveillance cameras with night vision, or infrared, mode allow users to more clearly see images in low light conditions and even complete darkness. This is a valuable feature in areas with poor lighting, and during times when intruders are more likely to strike. This camera has infrared lamps which come on automatically when needed the image is black and white but still had great clarity and quality
Wired/Wireless
Outdoor security cameras can be installed either hardwired or wirelessly. This can be sort of both the power is wired requiring a hole drilled in the wall or window frame. Although this can also be wired to your router if near by its also wirelessly connects to your internet and the app so you can view remotely
Recording
Some outdoor security cameras come with onboard storage, or the option to add a memory card to record images. They can be set to record only when movement is detected in order to cut down on file size and battery usage. Recordings can be invaluable when it comes to catching and prosecuting a potential intruder. This camera has a sd card slot so that images and videos can be captured locally, for a small subscription you can have cloud storage too and can record or download direct to your phone via the app. You can also listen and speak to whoever is in the area.
Audio
Some outdoor security cameras come with two-way audio, which can allow you to listen in to the goings on around your home, and let intruders know that you are watching them when they are within range. This has the ability to listen and speak to the party who is captured on video
Client
Depending on the outdoor security camera you choose, it may be compatible with your mobile phone or other device to allow for live streaming. If this feature is important to you, it’s important to make sure that the client will be compatible with your device. Although I think but obviously not 100% that this app or client is compatible with ios and Android has I’ve used both with this and my other netview camera to built up a system of security around and in my home. Any other systems you’ll need to speak with the excellent customer service people at Netview, who are always willing and eager to help.
This is the second Netview Camera I have bought, the other one being an indoor camera which I have covering the rear of my house. I wanted something easy to set up and suitable for outdoors and this fitted the need. Having the NETView app already I think made it easier but it literally was plug and play from the box. I think for the money its exceptional value and I often find myself checking the live footage front and back throughout the day from wherever I am. What was totally amazing was the fact that I went to Australia last year and was able to tune into live footage in my house in the UK . Throughly recommended and I would recommend the online chat help / support if there are any technical issues, very prompt and informative.
Everybody will have a different idea of where to site the camera and the possibility of wiring up an ethernet cable is catered for if a wireless connection is not appropriate and a10/11 ft. power cable is probably generous enough for most locations but adding an extension cable is easy enough if required. (See hints and tips below)
Setting up the wifi is quick and easy. Again, see hints and tips below. The picture is excellent – both on my tablet and Alexa Show – and the night vision is pretty good as well. The camera has a wide angle and extends for a substantial distance. The two-way communication is satisfactory but I probably wont use it very often
Motion Detection is pretty much as you would expect. The SD card has a 24/7 loop which gives me enough storage enabling me to avoid the cloud concept which would get a bit expensive if you carried on and used multiple cameras.
Overall, excellent value for money. I am sure some people would be happy to buy one at that price as a decoy deterrent despite the superb facilities on offer!
Hints and tips:
1. If you have a dual band router set the wifi on your phone/tablet to 2.4 Ghz before connecting with the app.
2. Check that your wifi extends to where you want to position the camera. If struggling, it may be easier to add an extender rather than run an ethernet cable.
3. If you want to conceal the cables, drill a big enough hole, feed them through then fix the camera on top.
4. Update the firmware – chances are you will get further useful menu options.
im impressed with the camera because of its quality and ease of use, if anyone comes near i get a push message to my phone and i can then switch to video to see whats going on, there is also a mic on the camera so you can speak with anyone there, it works seamlessly with the app that also has my doorbell camera and a security camera inside the home
overall 5 stars for product and 5 for the customer service
It also installed the new camera on my iPad in my Netvue app in addition to my existing cameras. I have, in the past, had other surveillance units from one of the most well known manufacturers (I don’t need say who they are). The frustration and time lost I used to have with setting up and updating firmware and rebooting was enough to put you off cameras forever, now thanks to Netvue I’m back online and always know what’s happening wherever I have a camera.
This camera produces a very high quality daytime colour image and it also has a IR system for nighttime. It’s worth remembering that this camera is a fixed position unit, so you will need to make sure you adjust it to take the view that you desire. There is some advantage with that system, it means I can take the opportunity to share live views with others in my area making it an ideal neighbourhood watch device.
The box includes the camera, a wi fi ariel, screws and fixings, a template, a power supply with a good length lead and instructions. The lead built into the camera is a little short, maybe 1ft. But that because it’s designed to be outside.
The camera fly out lead has an rj45 socket if you want to hard wire it, but you would need to crimp a connection after putting the cable through waterproof gland. It also has the power input and a connection reset button under a waterproof cap.
The app that you download separately is reasonably fast to connect via wi fi and works with Alexa, which is why I have it. My 3 cameras can be called up by name on my echo show.
Overall I would recommend the whole Netvue range that’s why I have 3. But do be patient setting them up. Follow the instructions carefully and if it fails reset and try again. Most likely it’s a connection fault on the network.
A family member has now ordered two for there home security.
