My husband is using this to install siding by himself, it is making the job much easier!
These saved a huge amount of time, simple to use, at the corners you can really see how accurate the spacing is from wall to wall.
Southern Timber in Devon, UK stock these to fit 8mm boards and 10mm adjustment increments.
If you plan to install lap siding those are a must have! Makes the job very easy.
These clamps work well making the job much easier especially when working alone.
It allows you to install and support 12 ft panels that are very easy to break all by one person.
very good product makes the procees ho by way faster than normal and it saves a lots of extra labor cos
I bought a pair of these Gecko Gauges for a shed-siding job last fall. It was the best investment I’ve ever made on tools: They worked flawlessly and allowed me to install siding by myself – something I couldn’t have done without them. When the job was finished, I sold them to another DIYer and recouped about thirds of my cost.
Worked better than expected. Fast, accurate and easy to use.
My husband love them. He was able to do our 3 bedroom house all by himself
I’ll never hang FC or LP siding again without these. Buy two pairs, once you learn how to install them correctly you can put your chalk line away. Chalk your starter and go !
We had no idea something like this existed and we thought we hit the jackpot when we found them. Worked absolutely fantastic for our siding job.
If you’re doing siding you must have these!! Made it so much easier!!!
Work great, makes L.P. siding installation super easy for one person to do. Some install spots tip the gecko holder out and the siding falls behind. Very minor issues, doesn’t happen often but still an issue. Will be buying the other sizes
I really don’t know how one could even hang LP siding without this product. It takes it from at least a 2 man job to simple enough my 14 year old did the whole side of a house by himself. Revolutionary! Just buy this product. I hope whoever invented it made an absolute FORTUNE!
Works very well. Only complaint is they only go in quarter inch increments and my siding was 7/8. Just had to adjust my layout a bit.
Amazing bit of basic kit just another helping Hand! The only issue I would say is the back plate is made of metal and it can be difficult to remove from the board when the Screws are tight. But Not complaining
I am so happy I saw a review on the lap boards I bought that mentioned these. It made the job so much easier and my boards are all level. If you are doing lap siding, don’t hesitate to get these.
We just installed LP siding. My husband had made his own siding tool out of wood to help space the strips. However, it really required a second person to assist. This Gecko tool makes it a one-person job – which goes MUCH faster, MUCH easier and with better results. WELL worth the money!!!
First time in a long time that I’ve seen a product work as well as advertised, and as well as you hope it does. Makes siding so much easier than its even been.
If your running lap siding of any kind you need a set of these. There adjustable to about any width siding. A little pricey for something made of plastic (that’s why I gave it 3 stars for Durability) but seam to be well made.
Increases clapboard installation and will pay for itself in less than 1 job. Only criticism is I wish there was an adjustment for tension when locked. There are different material thicknesses and variations within the same material. I have modified with some removable nylon webbing to get more pressure when needed.
A good item that is a big help but over priced & not that good of quality
What a brilliant tool to assist with fitting cladding. This ensures each board is the same distance apart and it allows me to work on my own as it holds the board. Worth every penny!!
The product works very well indeed, but I ordered the wrong size, so have had to use a small home made packer in each one to make them grip which slows things down a little, but they are an excellent help and save so much time and effort. I am putting up a lot of cladding single handed and couldn’t do it without them
This product is quite useful but the manufacturer should use locknuts as the bolts fall off. We have had to use duct tape to secure the setting.
I’m residing my house and I’m able to hang 16′ composite siding by myself ( I’m 73 ). With the long lengths, you have to check that the jigs don’t slide down before you nail them, but everything stays level and even all the way up. I find that measuring is easier as well. You can use the jig to help support your tape, again making working by yourself easier.
If there was a way to adjust the “grip” on the siding, that would be nice, but — GREAT product.
Not perfect for cedral but not bad. Made cladding a double garage a breeze. Last time I had to get the wife to hold one end with a badly made jig.
Save your sanity and spend the money. Glad I did.
It slips at time, even if I have the handle in the locked up position. One of the two doesn’t fit snug against the siding. It sometimes allows the Plank being installed to fall behind the clamp itself. It will allow one person to install the Plank siding, but you have really be on your toes! 15 feet up on the gable end is no time to find out It doesn’t work as it should!
There is a fine line between having the clamps tight enough to support the sheet you are putting up and being too tight and damaging the cladding you are attaching the Gecko to.
Make sure to read the instructions. Do not tension it so you have to move the lever all the way ‘up’.
This would be perfect for 12′ boards, not so much for 16′ boards as you really need a 3rd device for 16 footers that I was installing.
Easy to setup and use. If you are doing lap siding by yourself, get these!
These were handy for hanging siding but they didn’t always clamp tightly and hold the boards even, especially longer sections. We had to pay close attention to occasional board slippage and adjust for level. I would recommend getting two sets if you have a job with many sections of full length cement board; I think the weight of the boards affect the clamp’s hold. We were hanging brand name Hardie Board siding so we (maybe just I) expected them to work perfectly.
Ultimately the clamps made residing our house a lot easier. My husband of 34 years and I don’t really manual labor well together, 🙂 these worked well enough that I feel safe saying they probably saved our marriage.
Great tool a real must easy to use you can fix cladding on your own With complete ease
Delivery was so quick from America better than expected
I know someone that had these and I was told how much easier it is to fit Hardi plank cladding with them. A two man job can become one if you have a set of these. They looked like metal on the pictures but they are actually thick plastic. They also have a fabric pad attached where the clamp holds the boards so it doesn’t mark the finished board. Very happy with this purchase. Could not find these for sale by anyone in U.K. so ordered through Amazon USA and they took 7 days to arrive! I was shocked as I expected it to be much longer than that. Great service.
They are very straight forward and easy to use. Slide it under last row, push lever to lock, set your siding in, nail, release lever and slide out. Being that it is so easy, I would have given it 5 stars, but did drop it down a notch because of the fact that if you don’t set the siding in very delicately, then can have the tendency to slide down a little from where they are sitting. Sometimes getting a 10 ft piece of siding in from an extension ladder by yourself doesn’t allow for a delicate set-in. Easy to adjust when it happens, as long as you notice before you nail! Just keep your eye out for that issue, and all will go great! Would still recommend in a heartbeat, would just make sure to give a warning first!
Brilliant product, makes cladding a doddle for one person, great delivery time!
I could not have done the work myself without this, a little expensive but sturdy, no need to over tighten.
We are proffesional installers of hardie and marley. These clamps really are a necessity for one person installation. Can recommend these 100%. Just make sure you buy the right size !!!!!!.
Easy to use works very well saves making a T Bar . 1 person can install long boards . Love i
Basically an extra set of hands while installing LP siding… Cheaper and more reliable than our labourers, too!
They don’t mar pre-painted Smartside. They hold well. Just make sure you get the right model for your siding — these won’t work with 5/16″ Hardie fibre cement, but there’s another model that does.
Having these doesn’t guarantee smooth sailing — it’s important to check for level frequently as boards may not be perfectly straight, and you may end up out of parallel at the top of your wall if you don’t. I don’t consider this a downside to this product, as you’d need to do this with any lap siding, with or without Gecko Gauges.
The one complaint I do have is that they aren’t more adjustable. When installing siding without gauges, you can select any reveal (within manufacturer’s specs) so that you end up with a full course on top of the wall. Or don’t end up with a tiny strip under a window. Etc. With these, you’re limited to 1/4″ increments (and one that falls at 3/8), so you have to pick what works out best (i.e. closest to whatever is ideal based on wall height, roof overhang, type of soffit, etc). So far that hasn’t been a problem for me, but it’s something to be aware of.
I would have given this item a 5 stars but I had gotten the wrong size and created some problems. Would be much better if they made this a universal tool where it can adjust for any size siding. I still was able to use this item with the much smaller size siding by using card board, however the card board needed changed out often and they kept slipping. Once high enough and on ladders they slipped and couldn’t do this alone. I have now checked other reviews and it seems that a high number of people are purchasing the wrong size gecko gauges and having this same problem. I’m sure if they were the right size i needed this would work great. Over all I think this product is still very good and will save you a lot of money by not having to higher someone to hold an end up. Here is a review, even though i had the wrong size they still work well with fresh card board pressed inside the levers.

So I read the reviews before I bought these. I had read that people have had problems with these slipping down or opening up allowing the siding to wedge between the tool and the wall.
Got these a few weeks back and started using them lady week. All was going okay but I wondered why the manufacture didn’t make these tighter.
So after a week of use the gauges wouldn’t support a few 12 foot piece of 8inch hardie siding. No biggie, I have amazon prime. But first I figured I would call pac tools since I am not the first person to have this problem.
Well I along with many have bought the wrong gauge. These are made for 3/8 thick material. Hardie is 5/16th. I know, it’s not much, but it matters. So I am going to double check the description on amazon and maybe send them a message about changing the description.
I am also going to put a scrap of denim between the cam and the rubber grippy part to make these clamp better.
Moral of the story. Don’t buy this model for hardie siding. Buy the cheaper pair for 55$
