Absolutely love this device! Its performance is great! I had a living room which wasn’t as fresh as I would like due to dog, in summer I try to keep windows open as much as possible but in winter this isn’t eco friendly. Within 30 mins the room went from red (poor air quality) to blue (good), room noticeably fresher!
This air purifier definitely detects pollution – with a window open a neighbour ran their car engine and the purifier light turned to red (high pollution). It did the same when I opened a folder of old documents at a distance of several feet away. On both occasions the purifier increased its filter rate to deal with the problem.
I’ve been very impressed with it so far, purifier and app are great.
What would make it perfect is if I could disable turbo in auto mode, it’s way too loud. It’d make it less efficient but a lot quieter. Or even better, to be able to adjust the fan curve. Also, does the beep have to be as loud and harsh? Maybe my hearing is just too sensitive but as fans go…. Silent mode is very quiet.
I had a bit of trouble connecting to my wifi but got there in the end by also disabling mobile data while setting up. Also, make sure you connect to the 2.4ghz WiFi.
I still give it 5* but please Philips, give us a few more options to control noise/fans/beep.
I’m very happy with my new Air Purifier. I noticed straight away that the air was fresher. My partner is a heavy smoker and smokes indoors, therefore the air purifier is a necessity. It works perfectly, gets rid of smoke, smells, and dust.
It’s works as advertised. The filters are very expensive. Its extremely quiet in sleep mode. Automatic function picks up dust and smoke from cooking. Product quality so far good. After 8 months-ish.
I bought the Philips AC0820/30 since my partner suffers from dust allergies. She would be sneezing quiet alot first thing in the morning. Since putting the Philips AC0820/30 purifier I to the bedroom and running it on silent mode during the night she has not sneezed once. It seems to making quite a difference. So much so, that I have ordered another one for the house.
A well sized air purifier that will pull its weight.Remove the plastic cover from the filter and re insert back into the housing. The purifier run straight off the mains and requires no pre charging. In normal mode you can barely hear the motor humming away, put it on turbo to notice a pleasant pick up in the speed.Mine ran well for the time it was on.Keep a check on the filter to see what’s been drawn from the air.I’m pleased I bought it.
This is a wonderful smart air purifier which I bought after seeing it recommended by many other asthmatic people. Unless your air quality is poor the purifier is lovely and quiet, the whole thing is very light to carry and move so it is easy to position where you want and the buttons are extremely simple. It’s easy to clean the filter unlike the cheaper one I had before and I really appreciate the sleep mode which turns the light down, although I wish it still reacted to the different air quality when in that setting as it operates on “good air quality” setting in sleep mode (I appreciate this is to keep the noise to a minimum). Overall I my asthma and allergies have felt more under control since I bought this and I am really pleased with it.
Fantastic product to keep all the particles away from yourself. I have really bad pollen allergies and keeping windows open is a pain. Since I got this air purifier it’s way more manageable and I feel more comfortable in my room. My only issue is that the quiet mode is a bit to loud for me and I wish there was more speed controllers available
It doesn’t take long to clear the air in the room
and even if you are shedding paper it comes on showing you the air quality is poor or bad by turning purple or red
when it is on turbo it keeps the room cool
it is great for allergy sufferers like me
Bought this machine to try and stop my wife coughing indoors, and the result was amazing. On the first night, with the machine in sleep mode, she awoke in the morning and no cough, it has continued the same since. During the day, with the doors and windows closed, the good results have continued. I always treated reviews like this with a pinch of salt, but in this case it is true.
As I’ve aged my allergies have worsened. The sheer misery of constantly sneezing and wheezing from February when the tree pollen starts was dreadful. Then a family member suggested that I tried an air purifier, after some research we settled on a Philips model and the difference has astounded me.
No more exhausting bouts of sneezing, sleeping better, and able to drop my steroids. For anyone who has allergies to pollen or dust this is the answer.
Like this air purifier, it really works, when my partner lights up a cig it goes on the higher fan and clears the smoke quickly. I also have asthma and it’s definitely helping me, at this time of year I suffer from the tree pollen. It’s quite big but not heavy. Thanks.
The size in the description was misleading so was larger than expected but that concern waned as it’s a super product, very quiet and unobtrusive. Did find the light quite bright initially but it’s really not so you get used to it quickly. Mostly used in the bedroom overnight, with excellent results.
Bought two air purifier, great performance. Air in the room feels much better just after an hour of running them.
My son who suffers bad onset of hay fever improved over night.
Highly recommended.
Does exactly as hoped. Everyone is waking up less snotty and breathing much better. Including a new filter each year and running costs it will be about 32 per year to breath better, dust less and know your air is cleaner.
Happy Days.
Little noisy on high mode but not a problem. Clears the room of impurities and cooking smells
Bough this to improve the air quality at home.
The positives:
1 Filters the air in a room really quickly. After 5 minutes of working I can feel the difference.
2 Reputable brand. It means that when the time will come to replace the filter you will be able to replace the filter vs bin the device if it is some Chinezium brand with no available consumables.
2 Long lasting filters.
3 inexpensive filters (this might change because of inflation, etc, but at the time of purchase it was a fact).
4 Manufacturer suggest to clean the filter once in a while. When you do that you might discover what your lungs were inhaling when you did not use the filter!
Negatives:
1 it is quite bulky (on other hand you get bigger and longer lasting filter inside and faster filtering of a room).
2 Somehow noisy. When it is in sleep mode it produces a constant hum. It might or might not be an issue for you. Personally I switch it off when not in use or when I sleep.
These are quite large in size but are absolutely worth every penny and excellent for anyone with allergy or respiratory issues. Almost instant air improvements within minutes and easy to use and clean. A really worthwhile purchase!
The Philips Series 800 Compact Air Purifier is a popular choice among air purifier buyers due to its compact design, efficient filtration, and ease of use with a simple control panel that allows you to choose between three fan speeds, set a timer, and monitor the air quality. The purifier also includes a display that shows the current air quality, as well as a color-coded system to indicate when it’s time to replace the filters. One of the key features is its efficient filtration system. I appreciate the purifier’s ability to effectively remove pollutants like dust, pollen, and pet dander and improve the air quality in a room, as well as its quiet operation. Overall, the Philips Series 800 Compact Air Purifier is a good option for those looking for a compact and efficient air purifier.
I fail to see why these are so expensive; it is really just a filter + fan, you are paying a lot for the brand.
This is bigger than expected – but I guess you want it to filter the air in a room in a decent time. This also allows the filter + fan to be larger and thus spin slower for lower noise.
In use, sleep (low) mode is silent enough to sleep / watch TV and normally Auto should be at the same level if the room air is of good quality. Top speed is loud but not louder than say AC or a PC at full use.
The LED levels are not enough IMHO to convey the difference between min/Auto/max – how bright is each level? At night which is which? In the day which is which? Is it on Auto or Min?
I also had an event with the device stuck at full power after having it on/Auto for many days – and no amount of clean/off/on would clear it. In the end removed filter and reset device (i.e. tell device filter has changed) and we were finally back to normal. Now I turn it off daily and no more occurrences.
Overall, if you need a branded air purifier – then this is as good as any – it works but somewhat simplistic to work out issues. If you have the money, perhaps a more complex one would make sense – e.g. display air quality, display operation mode, timer settings and so on…
Small and easy to use. Does not take long to work and quieter than expected. Only time you hear it is when it ramps upto full speed and even then just like a quiet fan. Would recommend.
Turbo mode is a bit on the noisy side but on auto mode it’s exceptionally quite. Great for clearing the ai
Set auto mode and you’ll forget it.
You can barely hear it during the night.
Unwrap the filter, turn it on and you are ready to go.
Cleans the air. Doesn’t come with the activated carbon filter so doesn’t neutralise smells.
I’ve been using it for a while now, I would say that it is very practical. When I sleep I sometimes forget to turn on the sleep mode but it never budged me as it’s noise level is near silence.
If you have carpet in your house, like most victorian English houses do, buying an air purifier is a must due to the amount or dust, dust mites that can accumulate under and over the carpet. I suffer from allergy so I tend to have watery and irritated eyes. When I was cleaning the radiator the air quality drastically decreased and the purifier immediately recognised it and started to work in turbo mode. Sleep mode is quiet, you can barely hear the fan. Turbo mode is used occasionally, can be quite annoying if the room is completely quiet. I wished the cable was longer. Remember that indoor air purifiers are not a substitute of proper home ventilation. You still need to open your windows daily to get fresh air and oxygen coming in.
Small enough to stand on a chest of drawers in the bedroom . Very very quiet and we have it on 24/7 . It revs up when deodorant is sprayed or clothes are flapped about so it must be working. Bought it to help with allergies which I think it does
The basement flat I rented was full of mould and dust mites. I am super allergic to dust mites. I bought some sprays, which worked for 2 days. I was still waking up in the middle of the night coughing or waking up feeling terrible. This really helped me to cope with these hard times. I’m not gonna say it completely solved it, but while it was turned on, it helped a LOT! I could breathe better and I wouldn’t wake up coughing during the night.
When I moved out to another flat (which doesn’t have any dust mites or mould), I used it as a fan, during the summer. It was great!
It was by far my best purchase as an adult.
I turn it on perhaps twice per month just to purify the air. It really saved my life at the time I was living in this other flat though.
The size is good and very quiet in sleep mode plus not too bad in other modes but the filter supplied with the machine is not carbon (which is available separately) and I think it should be sold with this.
For the price is is ok.
No smart features (Alexa etc.) but the built-in sensor mostly means you don’t need it. If the air is poor the machine will run.
For the price I recommend it, but given it has a sensor, I would have been prepared to pay slightly more to be able to see the particle count or get it from a smart device. For a device that has this feature the price is twice this device so I amd forgiving on this. Just not on the slightly sub-par standard filter.
Works as described, that is until it goes full pelt then it’s very noise.
Very quiet on the sleep mode but the dark blue mode is quite noisy.
My husband use to get a blocked nose but he can now sleep very well.
I love the peace of mind that this air purifier gives me; I have a newborn baby, a partner who suffers from hay fever, and I am a bit of a germaphobe!
The product looks great, it’s quite sleek and modern, and is not too big (about the size of a big tabletop lamp).
The air quality indicator gives me a good idea about the state of the room its currently placed in and responds accordingly by increasing/decreasing the strength of extraction.
Be aware that when this product first arrives, although the filter is pre-installed, it is wrapped in plastic, so you need to remove this before use. Although the instructions show very clearly how to install the filter and remove any plastic, there is no indication in the instructions that the pre-installed filter is wrapped in plastic, so I didn’t check for the first two days!
I have no reason to doubt that this product is removing unwanted particles from the air, but it is quite difficult to prove as the air quality fluctuates naturally throughout the day. What I can say though is that when I vacuum the filter (which you’re instructed to do regularly), there is plenty of dust on the surface which it appears to have pulled from the air.
When I bought this product, I went ahead and bought a replacement filter at the same time just in case they became unavailable in the future.
You can’t really argue with the price of this product either when you compare it to others in the market.
In conclusion, if you like me have any concerns about the air quality in your home and would like some peace of mind, I would highly recommend this product.
The light turns blue (meaning clean air) within about 30 seconds of turning it on which means the machine is either incredibly efficient or I don’t actually need it at all.
So after receiving this item I was a little surprised how bit it is. Maybe the description gave me dimensions and I missed it, but it’s still acceptable.
It’s well built and has almost no weight to it. It looks quite smart and is easy to use.
So the three modes all seem to work as expected. Auto, full and sleep.
The auto will, as the name suggest, automatically changes due to particles in the air at that time. It’s relatively quiet until it turns to max.
Full is the loudest setting. If you are used to having a fan on in the background it’s not much different to that. It clears the air quite fast too. Close your window and door, turn it on full or auto and leave it to it. 5 minutes later the air is clear. Obviously it depends on what pollutants are in the air for time.
Sleep, this just works almost silently for the night. I don’t really use it at this setting, more because the air quality is good anyway for me. May be of use if in summer the windows are open and it’s a high pollen count for sufferers.
So I feel it’s a great buy. A little disappointing it says my air quality is always good (as in did I really need it anyway), but at least it’s there for when it isn’t. The air coming out of the top is slightly cooler , just as it would be from a fan (it isn’t cooling the air, just the movement of the air because of the fan).
I didn’t purchase it at full price, so the amount I paid I think it’s a perfect price point. At full price I am not sure. If you have allergies then maybe full price is worth it.
The sensor is very reactive, and on the default setting it will quickly ramp up the fan speed to purify the air when it detects particles (which is quite loud at full power), before lowering the speed to a much quieter level once the air is scrubbed. Overall very pleased with the purchase.
But I love it!! Well worth the money! The room it mainly resides in doesn’t smell of smoke anymore, it feels so much lighter in there. My housemate can hate the noise but as long as they smoke, it stays!!
With a barely noticeable noise level in Automatic mode it’s very impressive. The effects of Hayfever are greatly reduced. Very good for cleaning cooking smell from the room. Worth the money.
Quiet in operation. Makes the house feel and smell better.
Initially I was sceptical, but prepared to give it a try after coughing for 40 years!
I was always bunged up at night so slept with the window open and would wake up multiple times coughing as well as coughing my way through the day.
From the first night of windows shut and purifier on I haven’t woken up coughing once! The auto mode is so quiet I tend to leave it on, so haven’t bothered with the night mode. In the evenings I move it to the lounge and my family have noticed I’m now able to have a conversation without coughing or watch the TV without interrupting them.
It will be interesting to see how it deals with the log burner being on in the winter?
I was so impressed I bought a second one for our flat in town where I would cough even more having carpets and traffic pollution. This one does go crazy for a couple of hours when first turned on until it has cleaned the air but then calms down and just runs quietly on auto and I happily breath .
I have checked the filters on both and found the flat one already shows a build up of dust and particles.
This is a 5 star product and I wish I’d got one years ago. Only small improvement would be a carrying handle. Whilst very light, the shape is a bit awkward to pick up and carry and I worry about tripping over the cable when carrying it up and down stairs.
The user manual says the filters last for 3 years with just regular vacuuming, perfect.
Easy to use and works very well, air definitely feels cleaner.
Lightweight and easy to move around the home if you don’t want to fork out this amount multiple times for different rooms.
Not the best with smoke smell and besides, great, I have no objections.
Brilliant filter and the sleep modeis easy to sleep beside while running
The air purifier performs very well and it’s nearly inaudible at low noise mode.
The only problem is that the filter does not last 12 months as it’s described but 7 to 9 at best.
The fact that it flies up the stairs and cleans the air upstairs and comes back down is so bloody amazing to watch
I bought this when my son told me about a video of someone placing a sock with cat poo in it nearby, and no one could tell what was in the sock when the air purifier was on. I don’t have a cat, but I do have kids and their socks are pretty stinky. When we first put this on we hadn’t taken the plastic off the filter .. oddly we all seemed to think the air seemed clearer. When we realised and removed the bag from the large filter and turned it on full turbo power, it didn’t take long before the air was noticibly fresher, even got the neighbours around for a 2nd opinion
It works great as a fan too because on full power it really circulates the air in your room. We were very impressed with this… Maybe you will be too.
The thing I don’t really like is the noise but the rest are good
Product is very quiet and well built. Can’t tell whether it fishes out microbiological stuff, but seems to be working well from the outside
Seems good. It kicks in when the air changes. We haven’t had it long but it works well
Item is good but not so compact. The item is quiet and works as described although, it takes a bit of space space….also not sure how efficient it is in the long run but so far so good.
We use this daily and are very happy with the product in our office.
Bought it for son’s room. So far it seems to serve its purpose. The auto mode is good for night operation.
Works verywell, i would of liked to have a more flexable speed control.
Looks well, sleep mode is excellent. Definitely improves air quality.
Very efficient. Suffering from Asthma as I do I decided to see whether an air purifier would help. So far so good
My tele used to be full of dust every day now it is
I suffer from asthma and COPD this product has helped me a lot. The noise level has not effected from sleep or from getting on with my daily routine
Have the Phillips air purifier a few weeks now. Wasn’t sure how it would operate but must say I’m very impressed.
I move it around the house at various times of the day and it’s so light to carry.
When I plug it in and switch it on it defaults to automatic setting which is the best setting as it assesses the air and operates accordingly.
On one occasion I had it in the kitchen when there was some cooking underway and it went to red, then purple before returning to blue which suggests clean air.
Would highly recommend.
This item is very good, cleans the air very well and cuts down on dust good value for money.
I bought this to cut down dust when nothing else could. I’m happy to say that dust overall is halved, so obviously the machine is doing a good job. However, I would probably reconsider purchasing this given a second chance.
When in poor quality air, the purifier runs loud for up to an hour even in a small room. Their claims of fast cleaning are purely theoretical, in real life it’s airflow is small and needs time to clean. The automatic mode is really aggressive so pushes to either maximum or minimum speed sometimes nonsensically, so often I’d put it into sleep mode just to get some quiet. It’s frustrating that they didn’t think to offer manual control on such an expensive product.
Once the air is clean though it does slow down and stay quiet. The sleep mode is nice since it limits the volume but the airflow is so little that I have to wonder if it does anything. Anecdotally I’m less stuffy in the mornings so I believe it is functioning as expected, but I wouldn’t expect anything transformative from this air purifier if you have major dust allergies.
Great product, I have allergic rhinitis and particular to dust mites, having this on in my bedroom during the day on auto mode and on sleep mode at night has really helped me!
Easy to setup, indicates quality of air, easy to change modes, great price
Have a couple of these in different rooms. Work well, quiet and easy to move if needed.
Only used this a little as not long received, so no concrete results as yet. But like the philips brand, so hope it does as well as they say.
