I recently purchased the RDE VideoMicro Compact On-camera Directional Microphone for Filmmaking, and I must say, I am impressed with its performance. This microphone is an excellent addition to my filmmaking gear and has improved the audio quality of my videos.
The microphone is incredibly compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry around with me wherever I go. It’s also very easy to mount on my camera, and the directional design helps to reduce background noise and capture clear audio.
The build quality of the microphone is impressive, and it feels sturdy and well-made in my hand. The included furry windscreen is a great addition, which helps to reduce wind noise when filming outdoors.
Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase of the RDE VideoMicro Compact On-camera Directional Microphone for Filmmaking. It’s an excellent microphone for those who are just starting with filmmaking or those who want a reliable and affordable microphone for everyday use. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve the audio quality of their videos.
This microphone sounds really good, and it has the audio quality of a professional boom mic, which isn’t really surprising as it’s made by the technology of boom microphones (NTG 5). Nevertheless, this microphone is awesome for video creators, streamers, podcasters, and much more, and if you want a good-sounding microphone, definitely try out this microphone
However, when I first purchased this microphone and I was shipped here, the microphone was defective and after plugging it into the computer to update its firmware, the microphone completely broke and could not turn on whatsoever. Got a refund and bought a new one, which works super well.
I work professionally as a videographer and this is the second VideoMic Pro+ that I’ve purchased – not because the first one let me down but rather that it was such an improvement on what I was using before that I bought another (I usually do 2 camera set ups). The microphone has a few settings on it but otherwise is very much just plug and play, as long as it’s connected to the camera then it’ll power on and off with it which is useful for saving battery life. As with any microphone a quiet environment and doing all you can on your end in terms of settings and room tone will help it greatly. But if you’re a one person operation like I usually am then this is one of the best on camera solutions you’ll find without having to battle with doing an additional audio set-up as well as the cameras. The only reason I’ve put it to 4 stars is that it does perhaps pick up a little more noise than I’d prefer in the other directions, if it was more directional and better at silencing out the noise at the side and back then it’d be perfect – but as I said, there is a lot you can do to alleviate that so it’s not the end of the world.

I needed to record a video for a launch of a web Application I built for a school. I did a recording using the Mirrorless camera’s inbuilt mic. It wasn’t bad but I thought it could be better with an external mic. I bought this and the following day it was delivered. The difference in audio quality was like day and night.
It is the first time I have used an external mic. It was fairly easy to use, and it was set up after watching a short YouTube video on how to set up my camera with an external mic.
I originally bought it as I had a new job that required close person interviews in a controlled environment (such as the persons house).
The clarity is excellent and the ease of use is just as good.
Batteries last a long time, but I always carry a spare 9V just in case I accidentally leave it switched on.
Fortunately, you don’t have to carry tools with you to change the battery, it’s nice and simple.
