Right. 5 stars because once it gets moving. It’s super nifty. But watch out for: puting it go together -watch a YouTube video and follow those instructions. Don’t bother with the written one.
Using it – if it doesn’t work, check that the mechanism on the handle is tight by taking it apart and tightening. Then press the button and squeeze handle. Always in that order. Squeeze (like in magnificent seven with yul brenner) slow to get it moving. Other than that. Excellent -really impressed.
I got this when our old lawnmower packed up, quick next day delivery, putting together was an issue as no instrutions at all in the box. had to use the internet to find out how to do it.. cant use the wire wrap around part if u want to fold the handle which we need to do.. but cuts well, light and easy to store once handle is down, very happy
Really happy with this mower. Has a proper metal blade so performs much better than the “Flymo” types of mower for a similar price. Light enough to easily handle and manoeuvre but still feels substantial, decent sized grass box. Assembly was straightforward
Dear fellow shoppers-
I’d be as objective as possible to give review on this lawnmower as below.
Picture 1- saw some scratches on the other side of grass box.
Picture 2- the upper handle part doesn’t look as shiny as lower part, a bit oily actually.
Picture 3- shows before and after mowing the grass area.
It is working well given the fact my garden is medium sized.
I used the machine yesterday and found out the price dropped outrageously by 10 today, not impressed but the customer service is great!
Had to watch a YouTube video to assemble but was easy once I watched this as the guide was no help. Easy to use & has x3 settings for length of grass. Does exactly what it is suppose to.
I read a lot of reviews about how long this mower took to assemble.
It took me only 10 mins. Putting the grass box together is a little fiddly as you have to line it up but not difficult. The actual lawn mower only requires a few screws.
The lawn mower is extremely light weight and can be carried easily with one hand. I have a rather large garden, I am able to mow this with ease, the grass box holds a large amount of grass.
Would highly recommend
Read many reviews before buying this product. Positive comments way outnumbered the few negative reviews so I bit the bullet and went for it. Was looking for a lighter alternative to my heavier and cumbersome old hover mower which had been a good servant but had eventually given up the ghost and I have to say I’ve found a diamond here. I have relatively small back and front lawns so nothing to onerous but was delighted with the result of my first cut today. On the low setting (front wheels) with middle setting (back wheels) the cut was ideal for my needs which provided a neat and low trim without scalping and nice stripes. Collection in the box was surprisingly good too. Would highly recommend to anyone with a medium to small lawn which is already well maintained. Just look at the picture of my results! Well chuffed.
I’ve always been sceptical of electric mowers. Had petrol mowers growing up, heard of someone running over their cable… I never saw the point.
Then my petrol mower died. It was a cheapish thing, about 70 I think, and had served me for a good eight years or so. Admittedly I’m not much of an outdoors person though so I neglected both the mower and the lawn, it didn’t see constant use, and it’s impossible to mow in winter anyway.
Well after vainly trying a number of things to fix it I eventually wrote it off and looked into alternatives. Decided to give this one a try, and colour me impressed, I’m getting on quite well with it. The profile is a noticeably smaller, but I don’t have a big lawn so that’s fine. Its power is significantly better, probably somewhat due to the shorter blades but it didn’t struggle with my foot-high lawn at all, and it’s extremely light. Yes the cable is awkward and unwieldy, as much as you’d expect, but I consider it a good trade overall.
Some undocumented advantages of an electric mower. For one, it’s a heck of a lot cleaner. A petrol mower kicks out smoke and gets oily, and my old one left a stain in my shed. An electric mower has next to none of that, and no protruding engine parts so is extremely easy to keep clean. Also, you can turn it upside down without flooding the motor! I’ve taken to running a brush around it after use because why not, it’s easy and quick enough to do. No fiddly starting or refuelling or anything, literally just plug it in and away you go!
The catchment thing on the back (did I mention I don’t get out much lol) does its job… most of the time. If the lawn has any moisture in it, ie if it’s not perfectly dry or you let it get a bit long and it’s a bit damp near the ground, the grass just clogs in the chute and gets thrown around the lawn. It’s prompted me to keep on top of the mowing so I don’t mind it, but I’ve had to break the rake out a few times. It’s also a very small basket so even with my little lawn (I think about 5x10m) I have to empty it at least twice, and nearly constantly if I haven’t had a chance to mow for a few weeks.
One thing I will say is the lead isn’t particularly long. If buying an extension lead, definitely make sure you get the right type, suitable for outdoors use and with an earth pin.
Overall, highly recommend.
This is a great mower for a small garden. It’s much lighter than the previous one I had and is fairly easy to assemble. There are no written instructions for assembly but study the pictures before hand and it is fine.
The blades are right near the edge of the mower so it cuts almost up to the borders and less strumming needed.
It’s light and easy to use and there is a long power cable with a holder for it which is really helpful. Would buy again.
his version is better than the Bosch version i have been using for seven years. this one allows the height of the cut easier to change. the only disadvantage is that the blade has to be tightened or checked before use otherwise it gets loose and the noise that results made me jump. the mover also compresses the cuttings much better. excellent mower at the price.
After purchasing this lawnmower I was a little nervous that it wouldn’t go over our grass.. (at this point, the grass was above knee height) but a little perseverance and patience, it cut down even the thick long bits of grass, and left us with a great looking graden. Easy to handle, easy to assemble, at this point I’ve used it 4 times, and I have zero complaints. Our garden used to take 4/5 hours to do with our old flymo lawnmower and strimmer, with this bosch mower, it takes no more than an hour. Brilliant!!
Cheap. Easy to assemble. Cuts well and collects the grass without leaving a mess. I’ve been using this for a few weeks now with no issues.
Lightweight and easy to move around.
The assembly instructions were missing for mine but it still went together in 10 minutes.
The package is without any diagram or assembly instruction. I am a retired engineer but struggled to work out what went where and in what sequence or which screws to use. Very poor! Very infuriating. And this was from Hungary – Bosh can’t even hold China manufacturing responsible for this. Grass box is flimsy and I don’t expect it to last long – but I don’t need to worry about that according to my doctor!!!
The first couple of cuts were murder – the mower kept cutting out but once the long stuff was dealt with it has coped brilliantly. Nice and light to fire round the garden and big enough grass box to deal with cuttings from a small / medium lawn.
There are *no* instructions as to how to affix the orange plastic cord holder. Bosch don’t bother to include these. It is almost impressively careless. Ridiculous lack of attention to detail. Good mower though. Google a hardware shop for instructions – if you need them.
Brought this as wanted a small light weight lawn mower. We have a small garden. Only down size is the basket for the grass cuttings is as long as the mower its self which makes it harder to cut into corners. But it is worth the money cut grass lovely. Only thing is no instructions to put together had to go by picture.
This my second Bosch Rotak; the first being a 340 c – the cut width of this one being the same: perfect for our lawn.
Only bought due to motor failure (windings and armature, not carbon brushes) and price of a replacement motor being greater than a brand-new machine; the rest of the machine functioned as it did the day it was bought.
In comparison to the Rotak 340 c: –
Possibly not as sturdy,
Cable definitely shorter,
No cable hooks on the arms, as on the older machine, though made the old ones fit anyway.
Manoeuvrability the same,
Lawn Striping not as pronounced, but OK,
Grass cut box volume much larger,
Quieter possibly due to the age of the old machine.
Note My old machine failed on Amazon Prime day (luckily), so I did get this for a very good price.
Love the lightweight and easy manoeuvrability of this small lawnmower, grass box is adequate for our two small lawns.
Only issue was the assembly, we had to use brute force to attach the handle to the body, was worried because it is plastic and did not want to break it. Eventually we used WD40 to help.
my lawn mower broke down 4 years old (they do not last long) got this one as looked good for the money, desperate to get grass cut. Put this mower together in 30 mins, the grass box sides at the end did not fit properly but I managed to clip them together. Grass holds in whilst mowing, cut the grass fine was smoother machine than my old mower.
The whole thing though so plastiky looking it looks like a large child’s toy.
When will the western world start making things to last and stop all this cheapness from overseas of products that are not environmentally friendly. These cheap plastic things are not made to last.
Absolutely no assembly diagram or instructions. Took twice as long to assemble than was nessesary had some instructions been provided in the sealed box. Other than that it does a good job and is guaranteed 3 years if registered online. Lost a star due to guess work that is needed.
My budget limited but my lawn was shin high, so I thought i would give this a try. Never had to care for a lawn before. Putting it together, i was not feeling hopeful – the cutting box seemed very flimsy. However, when i discovered the knack – you raise it to a 45 degree angle, push into place and lower so you see that the catches on the lid and base are lined up – it still looked flimsy, but you know what, it worked! Held in place, caught cuttings well and holds a fair bit – on a medium size lawn when the growth is NOT shin high, i have to empty 3 times per mow. This mower dealt admirably with shin high grass. And what i love most is how it cuts right to the edge, I’ve mostly ditched my strimmer and cutters for edges now. Decent size cable. Easy assembly, fairly light weight, I am so pleased with this
Got this after our last lawn mower died on us. i honestly went with this one as it was the most affordable
one on amazon. Arrives boxed but in parts. Two wheels needed to be attached then the handlebars and the compartment which holds the grass as it comes in two parts easy to just put together didn’t take long . There is also an option to adjust the height of the base changing the height of the cutting blade which then allows you to cut your grass to your desired length . I have no problem cutting my grass front garden and back using this lawnmower and it tackled really long grass easily. My neighbour also borrowed my lawnmower as he just moved in and he also was impressed by this budget priced lawnmower. I also lent my lawnmower to my brother to use to cut his backyard and since he’s ordered the exact same lawnmower.
…struggled for ages to get the handle constructed. It’s a bit of a bind having to flip over the mower to manually change the grass cutting height by moving the entire rear axis into a locking mechanism, so certainly not recommended for anyone with hand grip issues (why they couldn’t use a lever like normal, no idea). Also the grass collection box has no forward ‘lip’ so every time you remove this you inevitably lose some grass cuttings. Seems a silly design omission from Bosch. Finally, it cuts grass quite nicely however even on the lowest cut it doesn’t feel like a really close cut so I would have preferred a slightly lower cut. *my fault the whole back axle hadn’t completely locked in the lower setting – seems fine now* But, it cuts grass and it looks nice when finished.
Ordered this for my girlfriend’s father who to say the least always used to get grumpy when mowing the lawn, it would take him almost two hours to do a front and rear garden which is less than 60ft long and less than 25ft wide. With this mower being wider and larger it now allows him to mow the lawn quicker and gives him more time to be grumpy watching the rugby. Great mower which has allowed the 20+ year old Flymo to be retired.
So after receiving I went a bit mad trying to find the manual on how to assemble the lawn mower having never done one before. FYI for all, the assembly is at the back of the spec booklet.
Easy to run, light to move around and the power is brilliant. My only bug is that when it comes to changing the height of the lawn mower you got to get right underneath it as it is quite strong to buckle down or up. But to be fair I only use the one height but can see this being a nuisance for people who want to switch it up.
Easy to put together, cuts and moves easily the only thing that let’s it down is the cutting collection box, if you fill it the handle comes off and if you don’t support the box underneath it comes a part. Why this is so flimsy I don’t know it dose let this product down hence 4 stars.
Only have a small area to cut now (5m x 5m) so got rid of my petrol mower. This thing is great! It’s so light, easy to pull out and just go! I sharpened the blade a bit more, just my thing, but my lawn looks amazing now, the neighbours have actually commented on it and asked what I did. Bought a new mowe
We purchased this lawnmower based on the review “Better than the Flymo Easyglide” which was both highly entertaining and informative. Many thanks for that as we couldn’t be happier with our purchase. The lawnmower was easy to assemble. It is easy to use, cuts right up to the edges and is a lot lighter than the Flymo models – as evidenced by watching our neighbours struggle to use their Flymo on their sloped front lawn which took them about an hour compared to the 10 minutes it took my husband to mow our almost identical front lawn. More time for cocktails in the sun for us!
It took me a while to set this up. It is a good make, same as my previous lawnmower but much lighter. It cuts well. need to lift a bar under the lawnmower to change the height of cut so for me this is a bit awkward, It is easy to manouver, but I struggled a bit with some thick long grass I had to cut.
Lightweight and flexible. Cuts to the edges and cuts well. The grass box is big and saves trips when emptying. Manoeuvres really well, good 10 m length cable. It’s not as noisey as I expected it to be for 1200W. Comes with a 3 year warranty.
The only negative is the poorly described instructions! There’s NO bulletpoints on how to assemble it, just very poor diagrams. Fortunately I’ve put these together before,so it took 5 minutes to assemble, but for someone who’s not,put one together before,it’s a very poor show!
Which is why i gave 4 out of 5. 1 point deducted for lack of clear instructions/ information on assembling it. But a great mower for the price. And thank you Amazon delivery driver for delivering well within the time. ( a day early in fact )
Bought the 34R as a gift for a friend and they couldn’t be happier.
With regards to the people mentioning the assembly, just ignore those comments. It was actually very simple to assemble and I’m not a DIY guru. There is actually minimal assembly and it doesn’t take more than 15 minutes to do. You only need to give a cursory glance at the instructions when you begin as it’s very obvious where the parts go.
In operation, the mower is plenty quiet and with the narrow profile it is very easy to manoeuvre in both the garden and storage.
With multiple cutting lengths and a rear roller, you can give your lawn a nice finish and the 1300w motor is powerful enough for most grass types.
Keep an eye out for the discounts on amazon as I got 15 pounds off when ordering
Great mower but the grass collection unit could have been designed a little better as it’s flimsy and can be difficult to get off without some of the cuttings tipping out. Other than that I would recommend this, cuts great and right up to the edge and it’s lightweight and easy to manoeuvre.
Was a little larger than I expected (we only have a little lawn) and was quite difficult to store, but does the job well. we have stepping stones across the lawn and it went around these with no probs and mowed right up to edges of lawn. Only used it once so only time will tell how robust it is. Did research and it was highly recommended for a small lawn and found this priced best on Amazo
I knocked one star off as after 15 mins on first use I thought it had broke and I’d have to return it.
A friend whose an engineer took a look at it and figured out the blade screw just needed tightening however a screwdriver needs to be inserted first to stop the spline spinning which wasn’t in the Troubleshooting Guide.
I bought this as a replacement for my old Flymo. My inlaws have a model 1 up from this, but my garden is small so I thought this should suffice.
It compares well with the higher model. Once you have the grass height set you shouldn’t need to mess with it again, but even if you do it shouldn’t be too difficult. The blade is tough as the first time I used it it caught some wires hidden in the grass and it didn’t break anything. The bucket is of a good size so I didn’t need to empty it constantly. The mower also get pretty close to the edges so you don’t have to do those separately.
All in all, I rate this lawnmower. I also registered online for their warranty.
My old mower gave up the ghost yesterday, so I ordered this last night. It arrived at 1400, and by 1500 my lawn was looking better than it has in years! Easy to assemble and use, the edging is genuinely surprising – my last mower could not get as close. If this lasts beyond the warranty (3 years) it will have earned its cost twice over. Based on a single cut, I would recommend this to someone with a small garden who wants an efficient, light and cheap mower.
I initially hated this mower because it came in many strange pieces with no accompanying list of items or assembly instructions to help me decide which bit of red plastic went where, and which screw I required. My husband even searched for the instructions, not believing that I had looked ‘properly’. I ended up finding a Youtube video made by people who just enjoy putting stuff together…not Bosch I might add – just very helpful random people.
Anyway, after the initial frustrated swearing before and during assembly, it actually mows really well, so I don’t hate it anymore.

I am not sure what the people who find this difficult to assemble are doing. I did this by myself in around 30 minutes.
I agree the instructions are not the best but you can also look at the picture on the box it came in for hints…
The grass container is more than rugged enough to hold grass. It is not flimsy but it is lightweight – which is good as I don’t want a heavy mower!!
Works very well at cutting the grass cleanly and putting it in the collector. I switched to this from a cheap flymo and the grass looks so much better after just one cut!
I’ve used a hover mower for years but wanted to grow and style our lawn with a bit more care so we chose this Bosch mower after carefully studying the feedback. When it arrived, I initially felt disappointed at how small a mower this is and panicked that it would not cope with our medium sized garden.
In fact, it has coped admirably but I would suggest it is best suited to smaller gardens because of the size and capacity of the cuttings box and the maximum cutting width. Emptying the box repeatedly adds to the time away from relaxing with a cold, celebratory beer, post lawn cut.
It is rather fiddly to assemble and as with so many products, the instructions are a few multilingual diagrams that don’t actually show you how to connect everything. Never fear though, you will find an excellent how to assemble video on YouTube which will save you precious time and frustration.
For the price and space saved in the shed, this is a perfectly good mower and does a good job cutting our lawn. It’s much quicker and tidier than our old Flymo and I would recommend it at this price above the competition for small to medium (on the smaller side) garden mowers.
I bought this as a replacement for a Flymo that had taken up smoking, and it was only 4 years old.
Assembly of the Bosch was a bit of a pain; I’ve done a lot over the years and the bosch was not the simplest and that is why its only 4 stars.
But, having got it together it’s a fantastic little lawnmower, just right for our small lawn. It cuts well, is easy to use, reasonably manoeuvrable and the grass cuttings are easy to empty.
The Flymo always scattered grass clippings over our patio, which then took ages to sweep up; simply the Bosch doesn’t make a mess and there is no sweeping to do.
Well pleased so far.
Very good lawnmower and gives a good cut with the metal blades. Although easy to assemble the instructions were poor, plus one fixing piece was missing but I was able to overcome that problem. If you have got hand problems you might have to use both hands to start the mower as you really do have to press the button and then pull the handle without releasing the button which can be tricky with your right hand only.
was easy to assemble took 1/2 hour instructions were not that clear, would have taken much less time with better instructions.
Grass box does look flimsy but on first cut with full box was fine.
With grass box on the machine is quite long for a small garden and not easy to turn in tight areas.
First cut at Mid Height worked well and did a tidy job.
Got a lawn? Is it getting long?
This is the Bosch Rotak 32R Electric Rotary 1200w Lawnmower with 32cm cutting width and weighs 7kg.
If you are looking for a budget lawnmower then you might want to consider this, once assembled it is a delight. OK it’s a bit plasticky but you get what you pay for. It has 3 cutting levels which is adjusted by altering the wheel height one by one. You get a grass box that slots on, OK it is a tad flimsy but once assembled it is OK. My only real concern was the lack of assembly instructions, none included. I had to hit YouTube, not a problem, but a tad disappointing.
The mower does a job, the wheels are decent, it does glide along, just don’t expect the weight and cut of a lawnmower double the price. Oh and it’s protected for 3 years…
Overall I would recommend this mower for the price, 32cm cutting width with 3 settings for less than 80. Winner.
When I finally got the thing assembled, it only took 1/4hr to cut my grass.
Pity it took an hour to put it together!! Various componants needed to be “persueded” to get them to fit. I can’t believe that Bosch would give such a poorly constructed item their name.
Having had my moan about the build quality, the little machine is wonderfully light to use – my wife says so!!!
Slightly tricky to assemble as pictogram instructions not as comprehensive as they could be.
I bought this mower as my petrol mower was getting harder for me to manage.
Really please with it. Very lightweight so a breeze to manoeuvre and carry but it has more power than I was expecting.
I have just done the first mow of the year with long, slightly damp grass and it tackled the task effortlessly.
Bought this to replace my much more expensive Flymo which was only used 5 times. It was hopeless- didn’t hover and cut different heights as the basket filled up. Neighbour lent me his Bosch one which was ancient and well used and put the flymo to shame.
Extremely pleased with this and well worth the money
Quality product especially with the discount we got it at for Black Friday. We have a 12 x 12 m garden and it was a perfect size for covering the garden. Quick and easy to assemble and a neat cut. Unfortunately we couldn’t locate the code for registering the product for the warranty, so if anyone knows where to locate this on the box. But easy to use!
This cuts my rather uneven lawn very well, and even managed to leave stripes, despite the fact that it’s mostly weeds! Cuts right up to the edge of my fence too, so I hardly need to get the strimmer out now. Check the cable length before you buy, it’s not overly long so it’s only really suitable for a small lawn. It’s a bit fiddly to put together, and the height adjustment could be easier too, hence only four stars. Overall good value for money though.
Before ordering bosch lawnmower many other brands came to my mind. But I trusted the brand name and ordered it. It worked fine for nearly 10 months and one day lawnmower stopped suddenly. I had to contact the bosch after sale service team and they collected my machine via the DHL courier service. After a week, they contacted me back and said they are unable to fix my machine and going to send a brand new machine instead. After another week, A guy from DHL delivered a new lawnmower of exactly the same model to my door step.
Bought this to replace our old Rotak 32R as the Trigger mechanism broke (again). This is our 3rd Rotak in 10 years or so.
This is the only mower a member of my family can lift up our bank to tackle our lawns, so despite the flimsy Trigger it gets 4 stars.
The Motor itself seems quite durable as we’re using it on quite large, uneven, countryside lawns.
The back Roller is also pain and we purposely snapped that off last time. It drags in longer grass and doesn’t seem to have much benefit. It would be nice if that part could be removed with screws!
Also, we’ve had issues with the handle’s connections being a little lightweight but each mower has lasted a good few years. It is usually the Trigger that goes first and I wonder if Bosch can simply replace this part? Next time I shall ask, as our last Mower would still be going fine with a new trigger.
Probably closer to 3.5 stars for myself but it gets 4 as it’s so lightweight for other members of my family.
I bought this after my Flymo hover lawnmower broke. Unfortunately when I tried it for the first time, it was for the first cut of the year. It took forever, emptying the bac every thirty seconds and the wheels were not very good. I was disappointed but I know the first cut is always a nightmare so I gave it a chance and am glad I did. It’s light, the wheels are making it so much easier to manoeuvre and it takes me half the time than with the Flymo. I no longer use the bac and I just love it. It will struggle with the first cut but it will be fine afterwards.
I was surprised after 3 years use it was dead. I dissembled it, only found out the belt suppose to transfer the move from motor to gear was made of plastic and it melt, the gear is also plastic and melt, as it is fixed on the blade shaft, there’s no way to replace it, the motor still works but the gear doesn’t rotate. For a brand like Bosch, this is unexpected, I would never buy Bosch lawnmower again.
Great little mower, far easier to manoeuvre than the Flymo it replaced – much lighter, which is a bonus as you get older! Works well on our small garden (shouldn’t be a problem with larger ones – you’ll just need to empty the grass catcher more often!!). Also does a neat row of stripes on the lawn thanks to its roller.
Only gripe is the difficulty understanding how to raise/lower the blade as instructions are poorly illustrated – had to look on Google. Plus the fact it doesn’t readily fold down once assembled (or am I wrong here, as I’ve read reviews saying it folds down easily – so maybe I haven’t quite grasped it yet?!!), so you need a bit of space for storage. Other than that, a good bit of kit. Glad I bought one.
I wasn’t sure about buying this product from some of the reviews, but it is a great product. The manual has illustrations on how to assemble the product, however they’re in an odd place and easy to overlook. None of the pictures show the handy cable tidy, so until you find the illustrations you think you have some odd parts.
What most impresses me about the design of this product is the thought that has gone into the underside where the cutting blade is. My old mower had nooks and crannies which were hard to get the grass clippings out of. This mower has a smooth underside such that a quick brush over with a hand brush leaves it clean. The rear roller leaves lovely grass stripes and provided you only adjust one wheel or one end of the roller height at a time height adjustment is easy.
I recommend this mower for a small lawn.
My first lawnmower purchase! My garden is small so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a mower. Grass and weeds were long and very clumped in places. Lots of negative reviews on assembly which I have to agree with – it arrives in roughly four pieces and you think ‘How hard can this be!’ But the instructions could be a lot better and easily save a lot of time with just some clear written instructions to accompany the pictures.
However… once assembled, it’s a fabulous mower. Got through my long clumpy grass with ease and coped with hidden twigs, stones etc with no stopping.
Other Reviews hilighted the grass collector as not sturdy which again is true, it’s made of lightweight plastic and during my first mow, it did keep falling off and I eventually discarded and just picked up excess grass but second mow, realised I had not attached the collector correctly (poor assembly instructions) and once I had sussed this out, it remained in tact for the whole mow, didn’t feel unstable and was full with grass – so I’m much happier with it.
It’s a small, powerful mower which is lightweight and easy to store, I don’t lower the handle for storage. For the price, I think this is excellent value for money. It cuts grass quickly, evenly and tidily.
Assembly is a pig. But once assembled – properly – no regrets at all.
Bought this on the basis of reviews. I feel that it is a little overpriced for what it is, around 75 would have made it better value for money I think. However, it was very easy to assemble and does a reasonable job of cutting. Setting the height isn’t exactly it’s best feature and not very convenient. But, once chosen you probably won’t change it often. The lowest setting is probably too low and makes the motor work quite hard occasionally. The medium height is a bit too high, so I think setting the front to low and the back to medium is likely to be a good compromise to check next time it’s used.
I’ve had this lawnmower since April 2018 and I’ve had no major issues with it maintaining my front lawn of about 50m2.
Pros:
1.Lightweight.
2.Has lasted over 2 years with mowing 1-2x/week in Spring-Autumn and 1x month in winter.
3.Adjustable heights 20-60mm.
4.10m cord just about covers my lawn.
5.Ability to lay down some stripes with the rear roller although the wheels on the sides of the rollers sort of blurs the definition (see pics)
6.Sucks up debris into the adequate size collection box.
7. Removable blade to be sharpened (I’ve only done this twice so once a year on average).
Cons:
1.Height adjustment isn’t easy. Although officially it’s only 3 height adjustment I’ve managed to get a few more heights by adjusting the front and rear wheel heights differently. My fave being the front wheels in the middle setting and the rear wheels in the lowest to the ground giving a height cut of about 30mm (so not as low as 20mm which previously scalped my lawn and just a bit lower than 40mm which didn’t look as good to me)
2. The cut isn’t as clean as a cylindrical mower but which rotary mower is?
3. Cord which limits manoeuvrability (I’ve got a tree which I have to ensure I turn the right way)
Would I buy it again? Not sure because although the cord was adequate it was always something to be mindful of when mowing. I’m really tempted to go cordless next time with a slightly wider roller and a height adjuster which is easier to use than this. I’m already looking at an Allett mower but for >10x the price I might just have to see how long this can last.
So for the price I paid which was about 60+ this has served its purpose well, and still going strong.
Decided to write this review as there are some dubious reviews on this product that nearly stopped me from buying it. First and foremost, it really is great value for money and really does the job well on small lawns – possibly even medium size. It is incredibly light and, although it does have a small roller at the back, it won’t give you stripes.
The only down side is the assembly. The Bosch instructions are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard and the best thing you can do is throw them away and look at the photo the the box it came in!
It took me 30 mins to assemble it – with decent instructions this would only have taken 10 minutes. Once you work out what bit goes where and don’t have any bits left over (!) it is however easy to put together.
So overall 5 stars because it really is a great little machine for the money and does cut the lawn well.
This is a good lawn mower. I have had it for a few months now and have had to cut my grass 6 times. It’s easy to put together the grass appears relatively level after mowing. There are 3 length choices which is plenty and is easy to switch between lengths.
Down side is that It doesn’t really cut all the way to the edge, it pushes the edges close to a wall/fence down so you cant steel that it’s there until.the next day.
Bought this Bosch Rotary Lawnmower to replace a Bosch Rotak 320 Lawnmower which I have had for approximately 6 years (could be longer) and had given up the ghost after being an excellent and robust mower which I put through its paces whilst it was working. This lawnmower (although I haven’t had it for long) seems to be as robust as my last one. Easy to assemble and manoeuvrability very good. Found it to be lightweight. Good size grass box which is very easy to remove and re-attach. Very pleased with this purchase.
Good points:
Very simple to use, lightweight makes for easy use no straining to manoeuvre the mower, side comb handy for use against garden walls etc. The orange wing-nuts and coach bolts cleverly designed to allow loosening without the wing-nut flying off. I like the tidy cable retainers attached to the handle another good idea. Makes for easy mowing of a small lawn, I don’t allow the lawn to overgrow and cut it once a week, more if needed, so grass box didn’t cause to many problems.
Not so good:
The squared block at the base of the plug causes an issue doesn’t allow full fitting of plug against the IP65 waterproof socket as seen in picture, annoying, the mower still works but it’s not right, think about it BOSCH. Grass collects in nooks and crannies about the mower a little thought and this could be designed out. On emptying the grass box clods of mown grass fall out again a design issue, outlet is squared off, see picture, perhaps a subtle curve would alleviate this it’s a nuisance more than anything.
Poor:
Assembly instructions no existent, nothing supplied with mower to explain how the parts fit together. I had to go online to find instructions; see link – https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=2ahUKEwjVp9WdjZ_pAhX1nVwKHezRAmEQwqsBMAB6BAgKEAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3De3TEeFv-SYY&usg=AOvVaw1z9DWWVB1z-hiJEOtP7BjX hope this helps for future buyers.
Overall:
I like the Bosch Rotak 32 R it cuts well, is easy to use, lightweight and packs away nicely by folding the handles, all in all it’s a decent small electric mower and good value for money at 79.00
I bought this for my elderly mother with wrist problems. I assembled it without too much difficulty and she finds it lightweight enough to push around her small garden. I find it quite tricky to change the cutting height – maybe there’s a knack to it but she certainly can’t manage to change the height on her own, hence only 4 stars. Otherwise it does a decent cut and is easy to manoeuvre.
I gave this 4 stars as I did not find it easy to get the handle bar assembly to join as per the picture and had to turn the attachment the other way around, the box is straightfo9rward and so are the other parts. It took me about 40 minutes to do. Once set up you are off and the cut is good and clean. I found registering for the 3 yr guarantee took a while as you have to get from the tool site to the garden care and thats is not straightforward however once in the system finally accepted the model number. Do not throw the box away until you are registered as yo need to show proof of purchase.
Was tempted to buy a cheaper model but, when comparing weights, this was one of the lightest mowers in the price bracket. For our small-ish lawn, we can mow in about half an hour, which is much better than with our now outdated older model of mower. One drawback is that it doesn’t come fully assembled like some other comparable mowers, but it wasn’t overly complicated to put it together. A huge plus is the large collection box which makes mowing so much quicker. If you want ease and and a lighter motor, this model is recommended.
Oh dear, what have Bosch done to this wonderful lawnmower?
I had the 32 model from 2014, fantastic mower, easy to use and a lovely high handle for my 6’4″ height.
Pros
very lightweight and compact
Cons
too low for me
the new handle design is poor
to change the cutting height there is no lever like the older model. For me to change the cutting height, I have to unplug it, upend onto the handle and then pull the front wheels to adjust the height – wow hard work.
Bosch if you read this, charge more for your mowers, go back to earlier designs, especially for your smaller mowers like the 32 R. Your 2014 model I had for five years, I cannot see this last that long.
I cannot rate this mower as five stars and likewise would struggle to rate it three stars as I am a Bosch fan. Most of electrical equipment is made by Bosch.
eplaced a rather oversized flymo that had conked out. Easy to assemble thought folding the handle for storage a bit of a pain lots of unscrewing. Thought the collecting bin was under capacity as I had to empty it so many time the 1st cut, however it turns out that is just as it actually cuts and picks up the grass so much better than my old one. Lawn looks much neater and goes right to the edges of the mower so easy to do next to beds round trees etc… Would recommend for a small garde
I purchased this mower to replace my Ergoflex model which had broken. It has obviously been built more cheaply floppy grass box, screw rather than lever handle folding mechanism and height adjustment by moving front and back wheels up and down rather than a lever as before. To be fair it did cost less than my old one. Assembly is still as difficult. As a warning to others my old mower failed due to clogging of tube leading from blade to grassbox which stalls blade. Belt then slips on motor pulley, this is the different motor noise mentioned by others. I thought belt had broken but belt tensioner had fallen to pieces. One of these is only about 6 but then noticed motor pulley had worn due to slipping belt. This needs a complete motor 95 i.e. more than a new mower so no contest. Moral regularly empty grass box. This is not a fault with the mower as the same thing happens with the big ride on mowers with grass collection hoppers.

Bought this for our medium sized garden. It’s entirely flat, so was happy with this model as didn’t need anything heavy duty or with a big roller. This unit is lightweight, really easy to move around and the three levels of cutting seem good. I’ve only used to lowest level, having only used it this summer. I imagine I may be using the higher levels after winter etc. But so far so good. It’s reliable enough so far and seems robust enough given its price point. All in all, another solid product from Bosch.
After reading some of the reviews for this lawnmower, I was unsure if I had done the right thing buying it.
The assembly instructions are atrocious, although once I had worked out where everything went, the assembly itself was fairly straightforward. Just make sure you have a decent work surface and plenty of room.
Two shortcomings 1. The cable is far too short and will require an extension in most cases and 2. The height adjustment for the wheels is very awkward, especially for the rear wheels.
In use I found the lawnmower extremely light to use and, even with the grass box attached, manoeuvreable. The only thing that hindered me was the shortness of the cable. The grass box requires frequent emptying but does collect most of the cuttings.
My favourite part of this order was opening the box and finding no assembly instructions. After going on line to find a video it was fairly straight forward to put together. So I’ll give it 2 stars for ease of assembly as it is simple to put together but you need to look up how.
It is easy to move around, lightweight and compact. It coped with my lawn and did an alright job, only had to empty cutting tray twice and both times it was only half full. Overall not bad.
The Bosch Rotak 34R is a corded mower and needs its 10-metre power cable to be connected to a mains socket that provides a very respectable 1300-watt motor. The build quality is what you would expect from Bosch and being built in the UK makes getting parts easier and cheaper should they be required. A metal blade is used on the 34R as opposed to plastic proving a good cut and allowing for the blade to be sharpened if needed. The 34cm cutting width make it ideal for small to medium lawns and for taking up less storage. There are 5 different cutting heights, this is pretty standard for mower of this size and ranges from 20 to 70mm which is perfectly adequate to adjust to the changing length and conditions of your lawn.
While the blade and grass box are not the biggest available, they make the Rotak 34R extremely light and easy to use. It will glide around the lawn effortlessly and is particularly good at corners and edges. The inset front heels also helpful to get close to walls and edges or tight areas.
The grass combs, sharp blade and powerful motor will give a nice clean cut. The rollers are a nice option and will give the lawn a very professional striped look.
It has all the other standard features one would expect from a quality lawnmower such as a good range of cut height options and a decent steel blade.
It comes standard with a 2-year guarantee which you can extend to 3 years. After-sales service is good and replacement parts are easy to get and well priced.
Feedback from customers that have purchased this model is extremely positive. There are very few negative comments and most people are very happy with their choice.
Overall I think this is a fantastic mower and I encourage anyone looking for a simple mower that gets the job done quickly and efficiently to seriously consider this mower. In fact I think it’s the best value wheeled corded small mower you can get right now!
The instructions could have been a little clearer (the cable tidy is not mentioned in the instructions clearly enough) and the handle requires a bit of force to locate in its socket, but once those issues were sorted (and they aren’t too tricky to do) then it is a good lawnmower for a small lawn. The only other issue is that the cable is a bit short (only 10m) so you might need an extension if you don’t have a socket near your lawn. Otherwise a good item.
I bought this lawmower when it was discounted and so far it’s performed brilliantly. The grass collection bin fills up quite quickly but as I only have a small garden, this isn’t a problem. I probably have to empty it a couple of times when the grass is long. The only negative is that one of the screws for the cable tidy scratches the handle when it’s folded over for storage. I pretty sure I followed all the assembly instructions correctly so it may well be a minor design fault. This doesn’t affect the mower operation, which is easy to manoeuvre and much easier than my old flymo
I have quite a small garden so I didn’t need anything fancy and having compared other mowers for a similar price this seemed like the best. It took me about 15 minutes to put together and on the whole it feels well built but a couple of pieces feel flimsy. For example it’s hard to get the plastic bits designed to wrap the cord round to stay put which is a bit annoying.
It cuts really well and has plenty of power, its hard to manoeuvre round corners as you have to kind of pick it up and put it down again but providing you’re cutting in lines it’s no problem.
Another minor pain point is you have to empty it frequently. I have a small garden and each cut I have to empty it 3 times.
However all things considered I think it good value for the price.
The Bosch Rotak 32cm electric mower is light enough to use for a small garden. Doesn’t take up much storage space in the shed either! Easy to use with the powerful 1200 W Powerdrive motor, is lightweight and therefore perfect for women like myself who prefer a lightweight mover that can be moved around easily! (It’s 6.8kg) It also cuts close to edges so works well for my garden with a grass area with flower beds and also where the grass goes right up to a low concrete wall.
A great little mower. This is my second one. First one lasted years! (2 year guarantee . 3 if you register it on Bosch online) . Light. Fairly easy to put together. Cut height adjustment by moving spring loaded wheel axles (easier than it sounds). Does a fine job . Struggles a bit if grass is long and wet. But I’d recommend this mower to those with a small to medium sized garden.
We bought this to replace a slightly larger and much older Rotak, which we were donating to a family member.
The new machine is not a patch on the old one for rugged construction, nor the amount of plastic used in the construction.
It looks flimsy by comparison. There is less adjustment in cutting height (3 settings on the front axle as opposed to 7 (I think) by a side lever on the old one).
However once put together it works fine, cutting wet and long grass well.
So a score of 4 because it does the job well, and what more can you ask for?
Excellent.
Rotar is powerful and does cut and collect efficiently. Assembly instructions can be improved and in certain times it was quite difficult connecting metal handle to the plastic unit. As seen in the picture it can clear thick long grass.
This is a great little lawnmower. It was a bit fiddly to put together, I must admit, and this took a while to assemble. Once done, it is very effective. My previous model was larger but this one is preferable because it is light weight and easy to carry. It cuts half of my grass before I needed to empty it. Again, being slightly smaller, the full grass box was easy to carry to my ‘green’ bin. The cord is a reasonable length although I do use an extension cable.
This did a really good job in cutting the grass and easily cut through long grass and weeds. The wheels can be adjusted to different heights and mine was set to the lowest height. I started cutting the grass and it took a lot off – ended up with almost a bald patch on the lawn (but that proves how good it is at cutting!)! I’d recommend starting with the biggest height setting on the wheels and adjusting from there if needed in case you take way too much off on your first go.
My main gripe is what several other reviewers have posted about, namely the assembly of it. I found the instructions not clear to understand at all and I instead found a really handy video online which was far easier to follow. I had real problems though getting one of the handles to fit into the space on the main unit. It would not go down to the right level where you then need to thread a screw into it to secure it and I had to use a lot of force to get it in and to align it with the screw hole. So much so that I was worried about breaking it! Assembly complaints aside though, it does what I hoped it would.
Very good cuts the my lawn beautiful. And very easy to use, I am in a wheelchair and I can use this very easily.
My garden is small and across 3 levels so I was keen to buy a lawnmower that was small but powerful, and light enough to move around the different levels of my garden. The Bosch Rotak 32R meets this brief and exceeded my expectations.
It arrives in half a dozen pieces that took me 15 minutes to assemble without any other help. Other reviewers had commented on some of the parts, like the plastic grass caddy, feeling flimsy however I have used this lawnmower 6+ times now and I have experienced no problems with this.
Unlike other mowers I have used in the past I also found that this one cuts right up to the edges of the frame, meaning you can clearly see where you’ll be cutting. Along with the long cable, I have found these two elements to be well above the quality of other brands I have used in the past.
Overall this is a light, durable and well manufactured machine that will keep my lawns in shape without any headache.
UPDATE OCT 2020: This lawnmower is still as good as the day I bought it. I’ve used it many times each year and despite hitting a few branches and stones the blade has held up incredibly well. A replacement is cheap or the blade can be sharpened easily, and is easy to change out. The motor is just as powerful as when I first started using it, so that it testament to the quality of this great value-for-money lawnmower.
Having read quite a few of the product reviews I bought the mower. Yes, it does everything it says on the tin. took me about 10 minutes to put together, half of this time with the grass box, fiddly thing getting all the lugs to line up properly, missing one screw, soon found one among my odds and sods tin. Plugged in and first started cutting on the 40mm setting, this was far to long for the general purpose lawn, reset at 20mm, just perfect, a far better cut than my previous mower. The only thing I would fault it on if one can call it that, is that I would have liked a 30mm setting as my show lawn at the front of the house (not long turfed) would have been ideal. Reading some blogs on lawn care it is recommended summer cuts be 30mm. I suppose if I need this I would have had to purchase a much dearer model. Extremely pleased however with my purchase.
At first I hated this (replaced an old Flymo 330). It couldn’t cut through long grass and kept clogging and cutting out – but the problem was the cutting height, it was set to the shortest of 3 heights. The height is adjusted by moving the spring-loaded wheel axles to one of 3 available axle slots. The shortest setting is about right for a bowling green, I would say an average lawn which is a bit bumpy should be set to height 2 or 3. Height 2 worked very well and easily cut through the rest of the long grass. It is light and turns easily, and is quieter than my previous mower, I finished the job twice quicker due to easy turning and fast cutting. It leaves a bit of grass behind sometimes, it doesn’t have Flymo’s vacuum power, but it’s tidy enough. The grass collection container is light, is easy to clip on and off, and has a carry handle, but you will leave a bit of mess every time it’s released, as it’s at the rear and a few of the cuttings fall out. Assembly of the mower handle bar at the beginning was a bit fiddly, I suggest looking at the picture on the front of the manual before starting, the step by step pictures are all close-ups; you have to push the rods right down into their plastic slots near the back wheels – best to hold them against the side to measure how far down they are expected to go, then push and twist until they are fully inserted. Finally a note about the cable, it is about 10m long, and moulded into the handle, unlike others that have a socket at the mower end. This mower offers everything I would expect for 65, so 5 stars.
I bought a hover mower which came with tiny plastic blades. I thought it would be OK as I have a small back garden. After ‘ blood, sweat and Paracetamol ‘, I took it back as it had cut virtually no grass and I ended up using my strimmer. I took some time for further research and found this little gem. It really does what it says. I can’t believe how quick and easy it is to cut the grass. It is light, cuts right up to the edge and is really good on rough, uneven grass. After struggling for the last few years with a hoover mower I wish I had found this sooner. The only negative is the lead is a bit difficult to keep out of the way and the assembling instructions were hopeless. I admit I am an instruction aphobic but there were just diagrams without any written instructions. After struggling for a while I realised I would still be trying to put it together next Christmas. Luckily my window cleaner came to my rescue and assembled it in under 10 minutes.
I have been struggling with mowing my relatively small rear lawn for several years now. First I tried a hover mower but I found it did not cut very well and tended to just blow the grass all over my borders rather than collecting it up. Next I tried a push along hand propelled cylinder mower, this was quite effective on very short grass but would not cope at all if it was slightly overgrown and left a lot of grass along the wall and bordered that required strimming or hand cutting – it was also very hard work for a female gardener!
After persevering with the manual mower for a whole season, I spotted this Bosch machine for an excellent price on amazon and following a bit of research I decided to take the plunge and buy one. It arrived the next day and I was surprised at how small and light it was – definitely a bonus when you are not very strong! My husband put it together, it didn’t seem to take him very long and there was no cursing involved, so I’m assuming it was fairly easy to assemble. My first mow with it was a bit of a revelation – it cut my grass better than anything has before, collected it neatly in the rear box and was easy to push along thanks to the wheels. It also cuts right along the wall, leaving me only 2 little corners to trim by hand so I have got rid of the strimmer (which I hated!).
I now happily cut the grass every week, it is so easy to do it now that it takes no time at all and I am not left tired and aching afterwards as it is so easy to push, I can do it with one hand if necessary. My only small criticisms would be that the handle is fixed at the angle it is attached to the mower – this is fine during use, but even when the top part is folded down, it does make storage slightly trickier if you only have a small space to keep it in (we use a plastic storage cupboard).
Overall a great machine and I would definitely recommend it.
I’ve always used a petrol lawnmower but it started acting up and it was a bit too big for my now smaller lawn. SO…I bought this little electric one instead, no more panicking if I run out of petrol, plug it in and off she goes. My dad was here when it was delivered and he helped me assemble it. Fairly easy to put together, took us about fifteen minutes. It feels very light to me but that’s because I’m used to a heavy mower. Saying that, it does cut the grass with ease and I’m surprised at how robust it is, cuts up my weeds and longer grass with no problems. One thing I would warn you about is the size you put it on…you know, how long or short you want your grass to be. I made the mistake of putting on the shortest and it took the grass down to nothing. I keep it on the highest setting and the grass looks just as I want it too. I’ve only used it for 4 months so we shall see how it holds up after next summer! Oh and another thing…it folds up neatly and fit perfectly into my small shed. Assuming it lasts for a few years to come then I would say this is a really good purchase, especially for such a low price!
Poor instructions and difficult assembly lost a star for this product
The instructions were just images, just like IKEA…..the assembly of the handles into, the mower body was difficult…..lignin get up,the hole for the silver pointed screw, was also a problem, needed a heavy duty flat bladed screwdriver to get the screw in….make sure you fit the two sections to the mower body BEFORE assembling the handle, as it’s easier to manipulate into the mower body without the handle attached.
Adjusting the whelks is not easy, eventually managed the front, but the back roller was a nightmare to adjust, hope I don’t have to alter the wheel or roller settings again….set it to the middle position and hoping for the best…..when adjusting the back roller, the whole thing came off in my hand and spent quite a while getting it back together…..the grass box appears very flimsy, but once clipped onto the base it seems more sturdy….the small black cable clip for the cable that runs up the handle was all a challenge…..almost decided to use a cable tie instead, then suddenly saw the small hole on the underside of the handle and the small piece of plastic fitted into the hole, presumably to stop it sliding down the handle, one cut complete and it hasn’t fallen off ‘ yes’…….the cut was very acceptable, my wife did the whole ‘ medium ‘ size lawn, could never have managed it with the old flymo, which has been given away free…..
The mower generally seems flimsy and made with a budget in mind….but it does what it’s meant to do and give a very good striped cut and managed several lumps and bumps in the lawn with ease….can’t wait to try it myself. …..s o o n….
Still very happy with this mower, tried it today without a grass box and worked perfectly
Good quality, lightweight and easy to assemble. The instructions are pictorial and easy to follow. A pozidrive screw driver is all that’s needed to attach the lower half of the handle to the body and fix the cable tidy to the upper handle. The grass collection box comes in two parts which snap together. This was a bit awkward but all the clips pushed into place after a few attempts. The mower is well made and plastic parts look like they will be durable. Bosch have thought about the design and have included a handle on the main body which makes it easy to lift if you need to carry it up steps. Cutting height adjustment is achieved by moving the spring loaded wheel axle between 3 preset heights, which is slightly fiddly but works well. The minimum cutting height is 20mm,,max 60mm. I imagine that many people will set the height and simply leave it in that position. It is fairly quiet in use and cuts the grass well picking up the cuttings efficiently. This model has a roller which leaves a nice stripe on the lawn. All in all, a good lawn mower for the small lawn.
After my old electric lawn mower unceremoniously died due to spectacular electrical failure (sparks, flames, smoke), I was in the market for a new one.
The Bosch 32R was recommended by some friends who had bought theirs a couple of years back – they had nothing but kind words for theirs. The other reviewers on Amazon also gave good reviews which confirmed my decision.
So – running through a few key points.
* Price – good value for money when compared to the others.
* Delivery time – as ever with Amazon – delivered on time, on the day specified.
* Assembly – OK – this was a bit of a mental exercise. The instructions could have been a little clearer (Bosch – this is your job, and we’re not talking simple like furniture – just a bit more detail would have been good), but after getting the parts all laid out, and studying the photos on the box (as well as the instructions) the process itself was simple enough.
* Lawn mowing ability. The fact it has metal blades gave immediately good results and I’m expecting the good results to continue over a longer period of time than plastic blades would have. The catcher did a good job. I’ve not yet tried it on different height settings. My neighbour also borrowed it to cut much longer grass. Again – good results. Of course – it’s limited to 30cm of actual cut – so if you’ve got a lot of lawn – something larger would be required. My lawn measures around 25 square metres – cutting it did not take long.
* Other points – it’s nice and *light* – which makes pushing it around a breeze, as well as packing it away after the lawn is done.
* Conclusion – great mower. Easy to use. Mowing the lawn is a joy again 🙂 (been a while since I’ve been able to say that!)
* 8/10.
I love this: the blade is metal and sharp, cuts grass rather than mashing it., the wheels really do prevent scalping on a lumpy lawn, and the adjustment is (although fiddly) much easier than having to unscrew and remount blades (as for other mowers) The motor is powerful and not too noisy. The grass collection effective. Having a cable is a pain (battery powered would be nice, but not worth the 4x price increase), but the pain is minimised by a neat couple of clips/hooks to store the cable. I suppose it would be even better if the cable detached (flymo have a kettle-style plug on their cables which means there’s a bit less worry about snagging/mowing the cable and hence ruining the mower, but then also have a plastic blade, and worse ergonomics) I think the mower is probably a little cumbersome for a really small lawn; getting in and out of corners is less straightforward than a hover mower, for instance.
My grass is happy, so am I.
Despite some of the negative comments, this tool works great if you know what you are doing. If you read the negative 1 and 2 star comments you see it is mainly people that don’t know how to use it and/or don’t have the patience to put it together. Don’t totally believe them. This machine is very easy to assemble it took me 15 min to assemble it standing up. It is flimsy but not so it would break easily. Bosch trying to create a low price effective lawnmower, which I think they achieved. I used it on a relatively large area and it did the job well. I had to change the hight of the wheels as stated in the manual to be able to cut the grass not too short. After that it was perfect, no hiccups or bald spots! The fact that every bit of the cut grass was saved in the easily removable basket in the back was very impressive. I had to empty it about 5 times but our grass was about 10-14 cm when I cut it. Overall I think this is a good lawnmower for the price and if you treat it with respect it will do its job. I’m happy I bought it when was on sale for 60 pounds, but I’d say it is worth it up to 80 or 90 quid price range.
Having struggled on last summer with my old Flymo I decided enough was enough and treated myself to this Bosch. Money is tight so I was a little concerned that at this price my new mower would not be up to the job – I needn’t have worried.
First off I’ll give you some context; I have an illness which, amongst other things, can give me symptoms similar to ME so mowing the lawn is not a job I relish. Added to that I have about an 80′ square garden of which about a 3rd is full of lumps, bumps, dips and slopes and is mostly what I call “meadow grass” that grows 10 times faster than lawn grass. This same area gets very little sun and only dries out properly after 6 weeks of drought! So you get the picture – it’s, for me, seriously hard work.
Not any more! This little dream machine has dealt effortlessly with the first cut of this year, on long, very wet in places grass and weeds. It is so light and easy to manoeuvre and the only time it let this horrible meadow grass get the better of it and became a little clogged round the blade was when the grass box was full. The Flymo had to be unclogged every 30 secs on the first cut with an empty box!
The roller leaves beautiful stripes, and it really does cut right to the fence edges making a strimmer virtually redundant.
The only thing I would put on a wish list to make this machine totally perfect would be a longer lead (even with a 20 metre extension I only just reach the farthest corners). Others have said they feel the grass box is too small; it is smaller than my old Flymo but a larger box would require the machine to be heavier in order for it to not tip it backwards when full so for me smaller is just fine thank you.
To address a couple of the other criticisms made, firstly regarding putting it together. I’m a 50+ female with very few brain cells and had no difficulty. Yes, the instructions could be clearer but personally I had no problems. The grass box pieces clipped together easily and once this is done it doesn’t feel that flimsy – certainly for the amount of grass it’s expected to carry. Again, sturdier would mean more weight so for me this is a plus point.
Secondly the cutting height which is adjusted underneath. I did find this a bit awkward initially, however I would opt for this over the “tabs” on the side method as on the Flymo. It seems to me to be a much stronger and more sensible design. With the tabs method if the plastic casing warps slightly (as mine had) the tabs don’t stay in place. Plus when the tabs catch on something and snap off (again, as mine had!) you have no way of raising it at all.
The bottom line is this is an extremely reasonably priced mower and I don’t think you could beat it on Value for Money. It’s done my garden in literally half the time it took my much larger Flymo so I’m a very happy bunny!
Summary: easy to set up, lightweight to carry around, good/very good cutting even on long damp grass & uneven slopes, good grass collection, decent construction. Downsides: fairly small collection box.
More detailed:
Setup: I bought from the Amazon warehouse as this saved 20. Item was unused but manual missing, found PDF on Bosch website easily. Setup requires a single posi screwdriver. You snap together the plastic collection box and its handle, then screw together the main handle and adjusters. No problems, all fitted fine, 10 minute job for 1.
Build: majority plastic to save weight. Grass box feels a bit flimsy, rest of mower still seems well constructed so I would see it lasting well if looked after.
Use: the mower is pretty light in my opinion, much lighter than similar sized petrol ones, easy to carry around. Cable is about 10 metres I think, reasonable. Press button on handle to release lever, this starts the motor, keep level pressed. I could easily push the mower one handed.
Cutting: this was what I was most dubious about. For debut, grass was 10 to 15 centimeters long in places, somewhat damp after overnight rain. Previous mower mainly pushed the grass flat rather than cutting! This one cut with ease, twigs and leaves eaten easily, did not seem necessary to double pass. Stripes left over. Quieter than petrol mower by far. Wheels adjust to three cutting levels, I was happy with medium as standard lawn length. Springs on wheels a bit stiff to adjust though. Width of mower fairly narrow but due to good cutting and light weight it’s quick to use. Does a better job at edges than any mower I’ve used before. Works decently on slopes, no small mower great on slopes though.
Grass collection: collection box can be on or off. When on, collection of grass decent but not perfect, what’s not collected is kicked out low rather than up at your body. No window on collection box so you just estimate or wait until grass stops getting collected. Only significant downside of this mower is that collection box is small, if grass is long you’ll be emptying it fairly often.
Storage: handles fold down in half, so with box removed this mower is quite compact for storage.
Well, actually, we all know beauty is not skin deep.
In very good time the mower came in a box and it was a doddle to assemble it.
Most of the structure of the mower is plastic and the grass box is totally plastic. Because it has been well designed it forms a firm structure which is robust yet very light. It looks small but the cut is 32cm wide. It has three cutting heights which are “neat”, “close” and “shaven”. by adjusting the height of the front wheels to a different setting to the back wheels does give a slight variation on the cutting height though this is marginal and requires careful control.
The cut is excellent, the grass is whisked into the box and emptying the box is easy because the box attachment is very well designed. The Bosch design of narrowed front wheel track makes edge cutting simple and enhances the finished effect as with the roller (the R in the title) which makes lines as good as Wembley Stadium on my little lawn.
We now have a smart lawn! I look forward to cutting it again.
I have struggled with a push and pull mower for a number of years, so I thought it better to buy one that gave more power to the elbow! So pleased I did. The machine arrived in excellent time well packaged and complete with all the necessary parts. Before you go assembling the machine check that everything is complete. Then read the instructions carefully and follow in a systematic way. If you do this you will not have any trouble at all. The only item that requires patience is the assembly of the grass box. I found the setting one portion on the floor and affixing the other the part the easiest way to assemble it. By positioning each lug just resting on the receiving slots and then gently easing them into the slots ensured that they locked into place quite easily. Make sure that you do not secure one lug incorrectly otherwise it will probably be a devil to unlock it, by that I mean the lug is not outside or inside of the box rather than onto the receiving slot.
What about the efficiency of the mower. Providing you do not have a huge amount of grass to cut this should be adequate for most lawns. It cuts well right to the edges and does give a stripe effect. The cable holder is a useful addition as it tends to keep the cable itself in tidy state without you constantly tripping over the thing! It light to handle and is reasonably quiet. Although the machine is small in itself by not having a fold down handle it does take up a fair amount of room in the shed. You can undo the securing nuts and store separately, but as I live in the far north of England you are often gald to get out of the rain without having to mess around taking the handles off each time you use it.! Cleaning is easy, and the lawn takes less than 45 mins to cut.
I used a neighbours’ Bosch 320 to cut their lawns whilst they were away in the summer and thought what a brilliant effecient light mower it was compared to my two Flymos – a Hover HC 330 & Roller Compact 340. As my lawns were due for their first cut I borrowed my neighbours Bosch 320 to run over them on Monday; brilliant job done in next to no time. Monday night I researched the Bosch 320, 32 and 32R and despite no reviews to date plumped for the 32R. Ordered Monday night on Amazon and the little beauty arrived today Wednesday and is assembled awaiting the grass to grow! The handle has a two hole height adjustment at the mower and two hole length adjustment on the handle. Bosch have fitted a cable tidy on the left hand side to contain the cable whilst not mowing, rather than having several metres of coiled cable to deal with; the lower tidy rotates through 180 degrees so that you can release the cable in one go rather than unwinding it all again. The handle folds in two for storage purposes so someone at Bosch reads all the reviews! It also has a roller on the back. I found no difficulty in adjusting the height and did one side at a time without any problem at all. The underside has less cavities than the 320 so will be far easier to clean. It also has a larger grass box. I am 76 years old and have two small sloping, not severe but not easy, lawns in the front and a larger gentle sloping one to the rear garden. I found the 320 so easy to manoevre with one hand compared to heaving the Flymos around two handed and have no reason to believe the 32R, which is of similar design a shade lighter and more powerful than the 320, is not going to be an absolute boon this summer – can’t wait! The only con regards the mower assembly is why didn’t Bosch include a second cable clip so that after wrapping the cable round the two tidy pegs you could just clip the plug end of the cable to the wrapped cable, as per some modern hoovers, instead of having it flapping about with nowhere to rest.
I look forward to adding further comment once it has been used but have no doubt it will be positive; also looking forward to see how well it cuts up to the edge as advertised.
The other disappointment was I ordered on Amazon on Monday only to find I write this review on Wednesday and it is 5.97 cheaper today!!
