Purchased to clean my mum’s carpets which haven’t been deeply cleaned for a number of years. Easy to assemble and works well
Easy to use. Good value for money. I’ve used it twice already and can really see a difference in my rug. Definitely recommend it.
Has a good suction washes the carpet well. The carpet does not take long to dry. Fantastic.
Ideal for what we wanted. The size is very good for us.
CLEANING OUR LIVING ROOM CARPET AND IT DID THE JOB FINE
This cleaned a very soiled carpet to an acceptable level after one clean. The machine is very noisy and left the carpet damper than I expected, but that might have been my attempt to recover this carpet. Does what it said on the box.
Very good appliance easy to use and good value for money
I did not want to spent a large sum of money on a carpet shampooer, so after reading reviews on different makes available I plumped on this Russell Hobbs model.
It is easy to use and it did a fantastic job in cleaning our carpet, which was starting to look ‘tired’ and a little grubby.
It managed to extract most of the shampoo/water solution during the cleaning process and left the carpet just slightly damp. I left the carpet a couple of days to let it dry out, by which time it had completely dried out.
The carpet has been brought back to pristine condition and looks a ‘million dollars’.
A great machine that represents excellent value for money.
A very minor criticism, when operating it the machine is very noisy. I would recommend that ear defenders be used by the operator.
Bought this primarily to use at my caravan but have since used it at home. It’s easy to use and very effective.
It is a nice light and easy to use bit of equipment and good value for money
Great fill & empty out of
used water carpets top knock 6x carpets lovly and clean
Greate price well done guys
Easy to use. Does good job on our carpets. Not a huge area,3 rooms.
Downside is the noise it makes.
Cheap as chips, easy to use, if you are on a budget this is for you, just make sure you open windows due to high moisture content and chemicals blowing like a mist in close spaces .
Good value for money. Like the pine smell of the liquid cleaner.
Had bad stains so took several attempts to clean but managed in end
Light to use easily fill and empty
I have had many carpet cleaners in the past. But i had all hard flooring so i got rid. But now weve had carpet again it was ruind (due to having pets and 4 children) i thought i would need new. But i got this carpet cleaner to give it a shot and its by far the best iv had! I have spent so much on expensive carpet cleaners in the past yet they allways seemed to just do the same. The performance of this machine is outstanding. Its revived my carperts lovely. I really do recomend it. The solution that comes with it smells lovely too. Im happy.
Excellent value for money. Washed my carpets and brought them back to life beautifully
It cleans the carpet ok it would be better for higher pile carpets but other than that it doese its job and freshens up carpets
Very noisy got to go over a few times to suck up water but carpet came up very well
Great value, easy to fit up n easy to use.
Cleans carpet brilliantly and leaves the carpet damp so dries quick. I just wish carpet cleaners were quiete
Easy to use. Carpet cleaning is made fun to do. The price.
i never expected it do a proper job i was wrong well worth the money
Cleaner is so easy to set up and use very light too only down side was their wasn’t any cleaning solution inside
My wife has used this once to clean the upstairs carpets and was very impressed with it. She cannot wait to get me out of the house so that she can clean the downstairs carpets. Great value for money
Cleaned the carpets well and the shampoo provided smells really fresh.
As mentioned in other reviews, this machine is really noisy – but as I don’t use it that often, it doesn’t matter.
loved how easy it was to use (single mom with three small kids). works a treat. the only reason not gave 5 stars was because i did not get the cleaner in the box as stated i would
Got this because my dogs are always peeing on the carpets. They won’t go outside when it’s raining. This is a pretty bog standard carpet cleaner, it doesn’t have the rotating brushes on the bottom to scrub the carpet, it just sprays it with the mixture and sucks it back up, so if you have bad stains on the carpet you’ll have to go over it repeatedly. Don’t forget to rinse the little sponge filter after each use!
This was a replacement for an almost identical model I purchased about 15 + years ago, and apart from a few small design changes (for the better) it is every bit as good as the original, and I would expect it to last as long.
The clean water tank is easy to remove and refill, and the waste tank has been improved so that there is no risk of spillage when removing. Waste tank is easy to empty and rinse out if needed.
Although not designed to clean a whole room carpet (stains or dirty tracks, or just a general “freshening” are the main targets), it *IS* capable of doing so – it just takes a little longer due to the small water tanks compared to a full sized machine. I have successfully cleaned several whole room carpets by using a small 5L watering can with a “rose” (sprinkler) fitted on the end, and lightly soaking a 4ft x 4ft area at a time, just enough for it to sink a little way in, and the slowly move the machine over to pull as much back out as possible. Just be careful not to overfill the waste tank.
Faultless I was really impressed very light and manoeuvrable simple to use and assemble this cleaner made an excellent job of cleaning my carpets
This Russell Hobbs carpet shampoo cleaner is great. What I have been looking for a long time. It is easy to assemble and has cleaned two of my carpets so good they look like new.
Brought this machine to temporarily replace a much more expensive Bissell carpet cleaner that we have had for years and has recently been tripping our electric whenever it is plugged in.
Firstly the cleaning capability is excellent considering the cost of this particular cleaner, although it took longer I was able to achieve the same results as what our faulty Bissell cleaner used to achieve, and if you consider our Bissell was 250 and this Russel Hobbs was barely 90 it is quite impressive. Build quality is slightly better than what you would expect at this price range, the plastics and parts do not feel nor look as fancy as our Bissell, but it is very sturdy and I do not have the impression it is likely to fall apart anytime soon. Using this machine is also very simple and straight foward, it is also very light when empty and most importantly very easy to push and manoeuvre around an area. Highly recommend.
Think the dirty tank should be clear plastic difficult to see how much liquid is in there when you are using the washer.
Easy to use and very effective, delighted with results on front room carpe
Very happy with the cleaner and did a very good job. But it is very noisy. Would recommend it.
Brilliant my carpets came up like new, they didn’t have any noticeable stains, probably worst bit was hall carpet. Brilliant can’t recommend this enough. I live in a bungalow so didn’t need to carry it. Wasn’t too keen on the smell of the shampoo at first, bit disenfectish! But when it dried it smells nice, keep going over carpet without shampoo to dry it off more. I left it three days to be sure before vacuuming. Totally amazing
Use this as i have a dog and carpet gets smelly, love it, use it lots …. bit noisey but doesn’t put me off
Delivery was quick. Used it it works well definitely recommend i
ice and light to cart around and certainly pulls the dirt out and good value
Amazing. Does the job spot on and Easy to use. We have two dogs and this is a must for pet owners.
Can’t fault this carpet cleaner easy to use and efficient, highly recommended
The box says 600W not 500W but otherwise is identical in every respect. It is also identical to the Tower carpet cleaner. Bought to replace an old very heavy and unwieldy Bissell that was a bit of a waste of time. This one is lightweight and easy to use but extremely noisy – I can put headphones on so more interested in how well it cleans than sounds.
Vacuum thoroughly first. Even so, if it’s been a while, clouds of dust will emerge when you first switch on, especially if the shampoo spray isn’t working.
I had difficulty getting it to spray the solution at first – on the clean water reservoir you have to put it back with the handle raised, then push the handle down to lock it in (raised clips on the handle base are the locking mechanism) and put pressure on the valve at the bottom so the solution is released. I was astonished with the amount of filth that came out of a freshly vacuumed carpet, mud mostly. It has been effective at reducing long-standing dog puke stains but it isn’t magic – it will take a few repeat runs to remove all signs. Personally I’ve emptied the dirty water down an outside drain and washed the reservoir under the outside tap. I used Astonish Vax shampoo concentrate.
The suction is reasonable – test it with a pool of water on a hard floor but it doesn’t leave carpet bone dry – if you want to spend thrice the price or more for a rug doctor maybe that’s possible but not on a sub-70 device. Mine dried overnight.
Last thing – when done, do not switch off until the machine is parked on a dry hard moppable floor and let the motor run a few seconds. Physics – what is in the tubes when the power is switched off will drop, gravity driven, onto your freshly cleaned surface. This ensures no leaks. I also removed the clean water reservoir – save the unused solution for next time – as this relieves the pressure on the bottom valve, again helping to prevent leaks now and in the future.
You can buy a lot more sophisticated machines but they will cost you an awful lot more. For a whole house major clean maybe hire a rug doctor or similar for a weekend. For routine ongoing maintenance of clean carpets and emergency clean-ups, this does the job at a reasonable price.
Love it couldn’t afford some of the prices for these things, this is perfect does the job!!
This machine is very easy to use, fairly light, and it’s easy to empty. I cleaned my lounge carpet, which hadn’t been cleaned for several years and it has come up like new. My only criticism would be that it is noisy, but most carpets cleaners are, so it’s not worth worrying about.
Takes a bit of getting used to, but seems to do the job.
Brilliant, cleaned carpet well, but disappointed with the shampoo I bought to go with it as it had leaked out into the bag so didn’t get full bottle.
This cleaner was ok whilst using it used a lot of water from the clean tank but it didn’t give the same quantity back in the dirty tank. Which left me to think the carpet must still have a lot of water in it. It did however bring a badly stained carpet quite a lot cleaner. The company sent the cleaner but omitted to include 500ml of carpet cleaner which should have been included. They are trying to rectify this but it’s taking a long time. NOTsure I will receive the cleaning solution .
Easy to use, easily cleaned when finished with, small and compac
Not used yet but my daughter has and was impressed many thanks fo
Seems to work but water started to come out the dirty water tank when it was about half full. Lifted some dirt and looks a lot better but will have another go next week to see if it can lift anymore. Took a while to get the trigger to fully press in.
This item is lightweight and easy to use. Carpets came up fresh and clean and wasn’t exhausting to use. The only down
Downside was that it is extremely noisy and has an ear piercing scream when using it.
Excellent customer service. Light and good cleaner. Very happy and a bargain to.
Had to do it twice and found the water was slow
Bought this for our daughter who is a slight young woman so needed something light and manouverable, her comments were ‘All good’ ‘No problems’ ‘Very light as well’, so another satisfied custome
Love the item but very noisy the cleaning liquid that is provided smell lovely
Seems to be good enough for price …happy thank u
Very easy to assemble and benefits from very clear instructions on how to do so and how to use. Easy to use and very useful in my home because I have a dog. I vacuumed the room very carefully and thoroughly before use and then put this to work. I worked slowly and methodically and have to say that the results were generally good. It left the carpet looking like it had had a bit of a facelift. But it is fair to say that it didn’t have much impact on a couple of areas where there had been an “accident” in the past. I think a more industrial strength machine might be needed for those. And I suppose given the price for this it would be a bit of a surprise if it could match the cleaning power of something much more expensive.
Ok, normally the other half deals with this kind of thing. Im a mechanical idiot with no skills in assembly or following instructions. If i cant use it without resorting to watching you tube videos im not ever going to use it! I was plesantly surprised by this, it appears to be idiot proof. We have another cleaner that the other half wheels out to do the beige hallway carpet (seriously, dont get a beige hallway carpet!) that seems to require a chemistry set and a seance to get working but they have a science degree and an a level in flat pack construction so i leave them to it! I approached this with some dread but the other half is away so i had to give it a go (thanks kids).
This is idiot proof. There, said it. Even i could use this. No complicated bits and pieces or wand waving to get it to work. It doesnt use much cleaning fluid per tank either, just a cap full, so i can see the bottle included lasting a while.
Its not too heavy to cart around but we have an upstairs bathroom so wasnt hoofing up and downstairs all morning anyway. Its manouverable but carpet cleaning generally doesnt involve the twists and turns of a car rally anyway.
It did what i wanted it to do (get the muck out of the carpet before it set) and did it with out too much palaver. Its a good price compared to some carpet cleaners and i thinks its a good one to keep in. If you want a deep carpet clean id probably hire a machine and keep this for more day to day dirt and spills but for the price its a good thing and will keep carpets fresh.
The Russell Hobbs RHCC6002 Carpet Washer is an effective cleaner, removing dirt really effectively with the supplied detergent on short-pile man made fibre carpets, rugs, and mats. It is surprisingly light, and easy to move around and use. Its only drawback is that compared to “pro cleaners” this carpet cleaner leaves the carpet a little more damp than I would like. Not wet. But still damp. I was surprised at just how much muck this little machine managed to remove. It is really effective at removing the outside much that my pets bring into the house by the doors.
Great value and very effective if the instructions are followed closely.
Clear instructions and a good size starter pack of detergent is included, which should be enough for cleaning a fair sized room.
I have a Vax platinum carpet cleaner which does an outstanding job and i think it would be quite unfair to compare them because the Vax is a 10/10 machine and this in comparison is like having a budget 9p tin of baked beans, its the same product but the quality is lower. Probably a bad analogy but thats what i have.
The machine itself was very easy to put together, took me less than 5 minutes. The tanks are large and hold a decent amount of water, plenty to do my lounge and hall carpets. The machine has an 8 metre cable, not a 6 metre one as listed on this page. The added length makes a huge difference because it meant i could plug it into my hall and do my lounge, hall, and bedroom without unplugging it (i live in a bungalow)
This also comes with a 500ml bottle of carpet cleaner. Its vile. Its Pine disinfectant. Repulsive, who wants thir caprets stinking of that, no thanks, i didnt use that as i use normal washing powder liquid in my carpet cleaners, i just put it straight into the tank with the water, makes the carpets cleaner and smells amazing.
In use it worked very well, i have a Huskamute and it dragged up loads of embedded hair out of the carpeta nd rolled it up and spat it out, the suction was not strong enough to pull it up into the tank. However carpets came up really well, i have just had a new kutchen fitted so my entire house was full of plaster dust which had been stamped around by the fitters, and of course dirty dog messes, my carpets are dark grey and i was surprised at the amount of dirt that this did in fact pick up. However like i said i do use Ariel Febreeze washing liquid on them. They left my carpets damp, took about 8 hours to dry properly, not an issue, just wore some slippers, but you need to prepare for the fact that it will take a while to dry.
The filling of the upper tank was a bit fiddly, and i found it didnt fit into my small sink due to the shape so i was filling up a jug and then fiilling it from there. In contrast the lower tank with the dirty water was super easy to empty.
The machine is light, easy to manouevre, but does lack tools so you cannot clean your upholstery with it which is a shame, but if thats your aim then i would psend more money.
I do feel that this is more of a quick refresh option rather than a deep clean, and that is ok, current price is 79.99 which is pretty decent considering the cost of my Vax platinum is 250. However for me and because i have a dog this one isnt quite good enough to keep my carpets clean, but it might be ok for you if you have no pets.
This Russel Hobbs RHCC6002 Carpet Washer has the phrase ‘Refresh & Clean’ printed on the big box it arrives in and that’s about right – it’s a great way to refresh your carpets and rugs but it isn’t really capable of giving them a deep clean or removing very stubborn stains. Once unpacked you have to attach the top section of the handle with a couple of bolts and then you’re ready to go. The construction is good but not great and it feels like an appliance that’s meant for occasional use rather than heavy duty regular cleaning, but at the price that’s about right too.
There are two water tanks, one for clean water and one for dirty, and both clip on and off easily enough, though you have to be careful to properly locate them into position. The clean water tank is filled with warm water and a capful of the cleaning solution that’s supplied in the box. That’s actually easier said than done because the tank is such an odd bulbous shape that it’s hard to hold and fill at the same time, you can’t sit it down because it has no flat surface. Once filled up to the mark you simply click it into place on the handle of the washer. Note that the bottle of cleaning solution says to use 4 capfuls while the instruction book says 1 capful – the instructions are correct! Don’t use more than one capful or you’ll get so much soapy residue left in your carpet that they’ll be sticky and will attract more dirt in the future. One capful is plenty and that also means the supplied bottle should last a good time.
The dirty water tank needs to be handled carefully when full and kept in the same orientation as when it’s attached to the cleaner – if you tip or turn it the dirty water will leak out. There’s a little filter, like a mini pan scourer, which is located at the inlet to the dirty water tank and it catches carpet fibres that get sucked up with the soiled water. This needs to be kept clear of fibres as much as possible because it will reduce the suction and with any kind of fluffy or thick pile rug it gets blocked up quite easily. I found it was worth pausing the cleaner and clearing that filter out regularly in order to maintain the suction – it only takes a moment but you have to carefully lift off the dirty water tank to do it. I also found the cleaner created some little damp fur-balls as you worked and these also need to be lifted out of the way, obviously this is worst on long-pile or fluffy rugs.
Cleaning your carpet is simple enough, you simply vacuum it first to remove any loose fibres likely to bung up that afore-mentioned filter. Then with the cleaner running you use the trigger in the handle to apply the clean solution to your carpet, then with the trigger released you continue to work the cleaner back and forth over the same area to suck up the solution again together with the dirt. I found it worked best to apply cleaning solution over a small area, maybe one or two square metres at a time, and give it a few moments to soak in and loosen the dirt. Then moving the cleaner more slowly go back over the area to suck up the solution again, spending much more time removing and drying the carpet than was spent wetting it. That results in a carpet that’s damp but not really wet and I found that even thick pile rugs were dry again overnight in a reasonably warm and well-ventilated room.
I didn’t notice the cleaner leaking at any point but once you’ve finished and leave the cleaner standing it will tend to leave a mucky puddle behind as dirty water caught up in the underside drips out and onto the floor. So you should temporarily place the cleaner somewhere that dirty dribbling won’t cause a problem, like into the shower or onto an old towel.
The end results are pretty good and once dry your rugs and carpets do look fresher and renewed, the pile gets lifted which makes them look newer and less worn and any overall muckiness gets removed. If you’ve got any dried-in stains like coffee or wine this cleaner doesn’t make much impact on them and you’d be better using a spot cleaner to shift those, maybe followed with an overall clean with this appliance. However to give your rugs a quick(ish) refresh and renew this cleaner does work pretty well and it’s worth the effort and the price.
The cleaner was very easy to put together – just two screws to fit the handle. The instructions for use were very clear, though our eyes glazed over reading the pages of safety warnings!
The clean water tank removes easily, You need to turn it upside down, remove the spigot, add a cap full of cleaning liquid then fill to the mark with water. Unfortunately, once turned upside down, the base is curved, and trying to balance it while putting the cap safely back on the bottom meant that we had to put the tank into a pan temporarily to avoid spillage. However, once clipped back into the body, everything else was a dream. The cord was long enough for our rooms. The sprayer worked well, and a few to-and-fro’s without the sprayer was enough to leave the carpet sufficiently dry to be left to dry fully. It was also not too noisy in use.
Emptying the dirty water was also easy, though the instruction to clean the filters then leave them out to dry before reassembly seemed a little conservative. We simply dried the filters between paper towels and refitted them, which was also easy.
It’s compact for storage when not in use, and actually looks quite attractive under the stairs.
The carpets came up nice and clean, which is basically what is required.
Highly recommended.
Contents 4/5
Cord length is extremely long. The machine is quite heavy when the tank is full but there is an carrying handle which makes this a lot easier.
There is a generous container of cleaning solution included in the box which will last for dozens of times. You only need 1 capful per use.
Assembly and Instructions 5/5
The unit is composed of several large chunky pieces which slot together solidly with a sound click.
Assembly was easy and only required a screwdriver and 2 screws (supplied).
The instructions are excellent and I’ve never seen any which were as well written or as easy to follow. They are simple to understand and all in English words rather than in the pictographic multi-language form you get with some products- which can be hard to decipher. It provides assemnly, troubleshooting, filling,
The handle is not height adjustable so the carpet cleaner may not be suitable for shorter people. Although having said this once it is lowered into its working position (as with any vacuum cleaner) this may not be a problem.
Preparation 2/5
Water tank is awkward to carry and once full the cap must be replaced immediately. There is no flat surface at the bottom of the tank so it’s likely to fall over whilst filling.
Cleaning 4/5
Cleaning quality is excellent. I had a few stains in my hall carpet (5yrs old) which have been there for a while. I tried to remove them by scrubbing but it wasn’t perfect. But the cleaner removed all of them and the carpet now looks beautifully clean and basically like new.
During use the cleaner is quite noisy and is perhaps slightly louder than an average vacuum cleaner. It has a brush bar for bashing dirt out of the floor as welll to help cleaning. Carpets appear noticeably smoother, softer and consistently cleaned after using it.
It goes under objects very easily if you decide not to move certain pieces of furniture.
Carpets take around 1-2 hours to dry after using it.
Disadvantages
On the outward motion the cleaner is quite smooth but on the return sweep it rattles across the surface. This was one of the worst parts of using the cleaner but it did not affect the cleaning performance.
It drips a bit after use but this could be caused by me playing with the trigger.
Conclusion 4/5
I was actually very impressed with the cleaner overall and I definitely prefer it to a Vax. I’ve had experience with 2 Vax cleaners and didn’t like either of them so I would choose this over them hands down.
They should really redesign the water tank IMHO so it stands up, and the way the cleaner rattles back over the carpet is really annoying. But otherwise it works great and cleanes carpets perfectly. I did not get a chance to try it on “very” soiled carpets as all mine are only 3-5 years old but it made my hall look so much better. I would definitely recommend owning one of these even if you have no special reason to.
If your carpets need a thorough deep clean then either rent an industrial type machine or get someone in to do it. Otherwise this is a good place to start.
I have tried several carpet cleaners over the years, ranging from over 500 to this one. To be honest there isn’t a lot to choose from them as they all clean OK, so long as the carpet isn’t deeply stained that is.
This one from the trusted company Russell Hobbs does a reasonable job and our cream carpet has come up better than I expected – so points there Russell Hobbs. The carpets I cleaned tend to stay ‘damp’ for a while and until perfectly dry, you cannot get the full picture. The next day, once the cream carpet had fully dried out and had been vacuumed, there was indeed a noticeable difference. It looked quite a bit cleaner and felt softer somehow as well – another few points for RH.
The machine is lighter in weight than the others I have tried, which is a bonus, but it still cannot be used successfully on stairs – perhaps a small hand held cleaner would work! That aside I have no hesitation in awarding 4 and feel a bit mean with that.
If you want a carpet cleaner that refreshes rather than deep cleans, you have to go a long way to beat this.
Fist impressions, the carpet washer isn’t too heavy, it isn’t horrendously weighty that carrying it up the stairs is a painful task.
The thing came in two parts in the box, being the Handle, and then the base unit itself. There’s a bag with two screws which attach he handle, you need a screwdriver to put it together, fairly straightforward, doesn’t need instructions, it’s so simple, that a child could do it.
It comes with 500ml of carpet cleaner with it, which is “alpine fresh” (very piney, disinfectanty type scent which honestly, I know some will think smells like bathroom cleaner but I actually love the scent of pine). You only need a capful per tank, so this carpet cleaner is going to last a lot of washes.
I’ve cleaned four carpets today, the cream carpet in one bedroom, the charcoal grey carpet in mine, a brown flecked tightly woven carpet (the hardwearing type) and a large red fluffy pile rug from the living room. All had varying degrees of results.
The cream carpet didn’t come up that well, but this carpet has only had one brief clean in 8 years (with a small handheld carpet washer which doesn’t even have a spinning brush) so I didn’t expect much. It brought it up a little but it took five tanks of water to do half of it before I had to give up because my mum wanted to watch her tv and my washing was interfering, lol. The cleaner did lift up two stained areas, one where a plate of meatballs had fallen and left a huge tomato sauce mark and the other side where a coffee cup had knocked over an ashtray and then spilled into the ash, I was surprised those stains came up because the small cleaner I have didn’t shift them remotely.
The brown carpet came up very nice, it too, is 8 years old, and a bit worn. It’s due to be replaced but as I have horrendous rhinitis, I wanted to give it a good deep clean in the hopes it’ll help. I was amazed that for an area barely six feet long by four foot wide could need four tanks of clean water…and each time the used water reservoir was absolutely filthy (to the point, the water each time was literally brown and quite opaque). I won’t say the carpet came up looking brand new but it came up considerably cleaner looking and I could see a massive improvement of the areas near the doors where the most foot traffic tends to be (people who have carpets for a few years will know what I’m talking about, near doors, carpets always look a bit flatter and look somewhat faded in those spots). I was very pleased with the results.
The charcoal carpet in my room (which is almost black) is the newest carpet in the house, it being only about four or five years old. It’s had two cleans with my small handheld carpet washer (which as mentioned, doesn’t have a spinning brush like this one), and this one literally almost looked brand new afterwards (the only telltale it is the raised pattern of the squares is quite flattened from years of foot traffic.
The rug in the living room came up fantastic, it’s a red fluffy number, one of those ones that became popular a few years back, with the tall woolly fibre type pile. It’s only a few years old and hadn’t had a wash before with anything other than a steam cleaner, it came up fantastic. Pile looked quite restored, and the colour looked beautifully vibrant. A lot of cat hair came up despite I had just vacuumed that rug previously.
In all rooms, I noticed the smell is beautiful and fresh although I did feel a bit breathless afterwards (I’m asthmatic and I think perhaps the pine scent has gone for my lungs).
Four stars is what I’m awarding this one. This is a good carpet cleaner, it does what it needs to, but is not a five star one.
Issues I had which lose the star:
1. The brushes are definitely not stiff or powerful enough to shift the dirt, and it does take many, many goes over and refilling the tank which is where most of the time is spent, really.
2. The vacuum drags the water up before the water has had a time to settle into the fibres and let the brushes get to it, with the result you’re constantly having to keep the water spray trigger down (which means the water tank lasts barely five minutes). I know I’m right about this because the third time I put the dirt water tank back on, it didn’t take the water up (maybe because the inside filter was caked? Not sure), the sprayer was soaking the carpet and I could see the brushes were pushing the water and dirt around far more efficiently and the dirt was actually shifting when the water wasn’t being drawn up into the dirt water tank. Once I had it on right again, it stopped cleaning as well. This might be worth looking at for a future model, perhaps, if Russel Hobbs is reading. 🙂
3. The clean water tank is an awkward pain in the backside to fill, it didn’t fit either of my sinks so I couldn’t get it under either of my faucets, it has no handle to hold it still while filling with a jug and it has no flat edge at the bottom so it can’t stand up on its bottom while I was filling it. I have filled the thing about twelve times today and at least eight of those times while filling it, it slipped, fell and spilled water out everywhere. The hardest part of the process shouldn’t be struggling to fill an awkward shaped tank.
4. The clean water tank leaks everywhere when you turn it upside down to put it in. You have to be damn fast not to soak everything. There’s a sticker on the tank stating it might leak due to pressure, but this nearly pours despite the lid is secure.
5. Soap bubbles spurt out the dirt water tank – especially if you hit a bump on the carpet (like mine, which has a few uneven floorboards beneath it) and the water is sloshing about. You have to rinse the tank out after each use as the bubbles tend to last in the tankard the lather expands, and again, tank is an awkward shape and didn’t want to fit my sinks, so I had to faff about doing this with a jug also.
6. No attachments or capability to clean stairs at all or get in tiny areas with this, you have a foot wide base which is pretty much it. If your room is a perfect square or rectangle, brilliant, if you have a room full of furniture where you want to clean the half a foot wide space between a built in radiator cover and a wall or your bed is wedged in to a small space and you have a few inches of carpet next to it you want to clean, forget it. This is a basic one piece cleaner, no attachments, no hoses, no variable options. It does one thing.
7. The washer drags up patches of wet fibre, cat hair that was embedded into the carpet, etc, but leaves it EVERYWHERE scattered over the carpets, meaning you have to keep bending down to pick up wet wads of dirt and hair. Surprised these do not get drawn up into the tank or into a filter. Not a huge issue, but when you have muscle damage in your back as I do, it’s no fun having to keep stopping to pick this gross material up.
Regardless of issues, I’m looking forward to using it again, although it’s a shame I can’t do my stair carpets with it (the base is far too big) but the carpet will be getting replaced eventually so heyho. I’ll be interested to see if giving the entire house several deep cleans with it over the next week will have any effect on my lifelong rhinitis. I’m happy to have it in preparation if either of my cats have toilet accidents (which, thankfully, they never do – although there has been some vomit from time to time).
Would I recommend it? If your carpets aren’t too bad and rooms are fairly large and squared off, you’d like this, if you’re looking for something that does stairs and upholstery, it isn’t for you. It does work, it isn’t a rug doctor, it doesn’t leave large noticeably cleaner trails in your carpets, but for this price, you’re not going to get a cleaner of that calibur. What you will get is a cleaner that lifts up a lot of dirt over several refills of the tank, and will leave the room smelling fresher and looking a bit brighter.
This was purchased 3 weeks ago and stood unused till today. At 9 am we suffered a massive hot water pipe burst in the kitchen. This unit was used to mop up the mess. The collection container holds about 6 pints. We emptied it 8 times. It performed perfectly. If we never use it again ( which we surely will) it will have paid for itself many times over. This was purchased to replace a Vax machine that had died. I worried that a cheaper carpet cleaner without the history of producing carpet cleaners would be inferior. My worries were unnecessary. I would recommend this cleaner to anyone. If it can suck up gallons of water so quickly a carpet doesn’t stand a chance.
I have three dogs whom sometimes have accidents on our hallway carpet so this is very handy and nice and light, as the vax machine i have is far to heavy to lift up and down stairs where it is stored. it is a quick machine like the reviews before it is a bit noisy but i don’t mind that as it gets the job done and the carpet is lovely and clean when done.
We bought this carpet cleaner after recently purchasing a dog that wasn’t toilet trained. There were several spots on our carpet where the dog had urinated and after hand cleaning these marks were still visible. We used the carpet cleaner to target these spots and it ended up leaving these areas cleaner than the rest of the carpet. We have since used the cleaner on all of the carpet and it looks loads brighter.
Having never used a carpet cleaner before we found it was really easy to assemble and simple to use. The complimentary carpet shampoo was an added bonus as well.
A lightweight and compact cleaner which is easy to operate and manoeuvre. Quick and simple to assemble and set up. Allowed me to remove a couple of stubborn dog related stains from my carpet! Once ordered delivery was really fast. Very good value for money.
This product has worked really well to get the tough stain from my carpet. Really simple and easy to use. Arrived quickly after order was placed. I would recommend it for household use.
