Bought this as replacement for one I’ve had for years. It works very well. I stay in older type property with heavy stone walls. I have used drill several times and works really well

Didn’t think this would be good but it got the job done. Not for heavy duty use but diy and jobs around the house it’s nice and handy. 2ah battery doesn’t last long so I got a 5ah .. happy with this new addition to my Ryobi collectio

    I have about 20 Ryobi
Base units and 6 batteries means I’m only charging 6 batteries and not a whole host for each individual device. And they are quite solid. Though not really on a professional level (my drill ended up losing its centre), but then it’s not a professional price. I do however use them quite roughly, and they take it. Did have to get a second one after I had to break up a concrete block on rotations stop and it was never the same since.

When this arrived I was a little concerned at the size, and the fact the box describes it as a Hammer Drill, not a Rotary Hammer (different things). I almost sent it back and ordered the more powerful Ryobi model, but thought I’d give it a try. Like other’s have said – it made short work of concrete, and paving, drilling through both with ease. Totally recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have had a few of these over the years, i use them in a commercial aspect so they really get some hammer and serve me well, if using for domestic DIY jobs this drill should last years, no job too hard with this, also a really good light weight chisel as well.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFirst thing I did was stick a 4.0AH battery in it and then drill 16 off 12mm holes about 9 inches deep into concrete with it. Handled it like a pro. No issues at all.

Well all I can say so far is its better than my hammer mode on my drill and it’s less noisy and makes any brick seem less intimidating to drill through. Its like a knife through butte

I needed to drill 40+ holes in old brick work to fit a handrail up some stairs. As I wanted to use bolts, I needed quite big, deep holes. I would still be doing it now, if I had used my regular Ryobi hammer drill. This thing made such light work of it!

Fantastic impact on the masonry setting and the 5 amp battery lasts for about 4 to 5 hours.

I used to absolutely hate drilling concrete with my old combi drill. The combi’s “hammer” mode is an embarrassment, and I’d spend literal hours grinding away a millimetre at a time.

Now everything has changed This real hammer drill is a pleasure to use. I saw another review had it as a “work of art” and I can’t disagree. I drilled 8 holes today in some ridiculous concrete slabs in a few minutes, which took me 15 holes/minute before until my old drill started smoking and gave up.

Don’t hesitate. If you need a hammer drill save your combi for screws and drilling wood. This is the thing for you.

If you already have +one tools and you do a lot of DIY it’s a good buy. Drilling in masonry with quality bits is easily and accurately accomplished. Do not not use cheap inferior bits as the results will disappoint.

I already have a rew ryobi tools and batteries and I needed a stronger drill with chisel function for a kitchen refurbishment. This was priced at 90 at the time, normally sits at 100. It did the job with ease, it’s my go to drill now for any drilling in concrete. Drill bit changes are nice and quick and they don’t come loose. Drilled a 16mm hole through hardened concrete around a fireplace with ease too (decent drill bit used which helped). Works very well with a chisel attachment too – just make sure you select the chisel function on the selector knob. Many hours use of chiselling and drilling as well as chasing out a wall and it didn’t miss a beat. Only negative I’d say was after several hours of chasing out, the vibrations broke the tabs on the 5.0ah battery due to the vibrations and battery weight. Not a fault of this battery, more the design on the battery locking mechanism. I held it in place with a small bungie strap after this.

Another addition to my one + easy fit sds system drill is comfortable to hold no heavy pressing needed as sds does its job well bought a set of drill-all bits will drill through anything, just had to buy an sds to hex adapter.
Saves me having to get the large heavy bosch elec sds out, save that for bigger jobs.
One small gripe it’s chuck end heavy so it won’t stand up on its own,as most ryobi tools do.

First one did not work properly so requested a replacement. It’s smaller than I expected and was unsure if it would cope until I tried it. It works really well to break up concrete which was supporting old posts. Very much worth the money. The only thing is that the silver is actually plastic sprayed silver and is easily scratched. Would have been probably better being the rubber to make is more rugged.
I like to keep my tools keen and looking new but in less than a month it looks older than any of my other Ryobi products.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have a KW+ SDS drill – weighs a tonne and goes through anything. This makes a real fist out of keeping up and I use this MUCH more often. I have normal hammer drills too, never even think of them now, this does a much quicker, cleaner job. Why the heck did I wait so long before getting ANY SDS drill and why for this one. This WORKS (unlike Ryobi’s One+ Circular saw which just gives up on almost anything). Yes, it falls on it’s nose – live with it, I always set mine down on it’s side anyway.

I’ve put this SDS drill through some tough jobs, I’ve cored through 2x concrete walls with a 40mm coring bit and it got hot, once it cooled down to where u could hold it, it got back to drilling.

the chisel feature isn’t as powerfull as my corded SDS but its great what you can achieve with this tool, very easy to get into tight parts of walls or breaking up stone underground. it just works, must have either a 4amp or 5 amp hr battery gives you ages of run time. very happy with the purchase

Tried it on some large Granite stones vs the Bosch hammer and the AC SDS chisel.
10mm Tungsten masonary bit and 80mm depth hole
Bosch Hammer 50 secs but drill bit came lose in the chuck
AC powered SDS 12 sec but very noisy and heavy
Ryobi SDS 15 secs quite quiet, will be great when i need to work off a ladder. Been running it on a 4ah non Ryobi battery from an Ebay seller in Germany, they are a 1/4 of the ryobi price with 5yr gtee and seem to perfrom just as well, so even if they last half as long i am still in pocke

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat product from ryobi again!!

Ive got a large supply of ryobi products and this is a great hammer/chisel drill.

It SDS feature helps with ease of changing drill bits/chisels.

One word of warning is that when chiselling, the power use is huge and a 4ah battery lasts 45-60mins. So id recommend a second battery whilst the other is quick charging, so as not to interrupt work.

For really heavy duty work it may run through batteries even quicker.

For the average DIYer though it is brilliant piece of kit that works well and lasts.

I hesitated for ages getting this drill, but eventually took the plunge. And wished I’d done it much sooner.
I live in a 1930’s house which I’m renovating, some of the bricks are like iron – even the best conventional hammer drill needs a lot of effort to penetrate these. This SDS is small, compact, lightweight and goes through in no time.
Stripping tiles, breaking up poured concrete slabs, even stripping plaster and render, this tool has saved hours of manual effort and most likely me smacking my hand with the lump hammer. Delighted.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWorks really well with the 15 chisel/drill bit set I also bought from Amazon. Surprisingly powerful for a battery operated product. Bought this to help me with my kitchen install and it didn’t disappoint. Goes through brickwork very easily (much better than the hammer drill). Needs the larger battery to be of any use in terms of the amount of time you can use it but worth it nonetheless. One thing: you can’t put it down on the battery as you can with the other Ryobi kit – it just falls over!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat for small jobs for making fixing holes in concrete small compact. A little front heavy so when placed on the floor stood by the base of the battery it falls forward. If you need an SDS for holes bigger and deeper then say 10mm wide by 2feet deep in a regular basis I’d go for something more heavy duty and maybe mains powered. For me this is great recently installed in a warehouse needing standard red wall plugs in concrete for everything it didn’t falter and the 4amp battery lasted ages.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersBought this over 2 years ago, it cuts thru masonry nice and fast with minimum efforts, its a good weight and felt like it could take on quite a lot, however i managed to burn out the motor 2 weeks ago pushing it to drill thru sleepers with brad auger bits, i know this isnt what its designed for but it was the biggest drill available.

bad points: it doesnt stand up, meaning when you put it down the body is always leaning against the bit you have i the chock, i’ve known this from day one and I still try and stand it up like all the other drills.
the motor gets hot and its right under you hand – it’d be great if this drill had the option of a side handle and/or depth stop gauge as some rival units do.

that said, it is about 50-100 less than rivals and even though i blew the last one up, i’ll still get a 2nd one, i just won’t try and push it thru sleepers next time 🙂

Excellent product, bought for a home renovation project along with several other Ryobi products (P884 kit). Is more than capable of drilling 20mm holes thru block/brick walls and 10mm holes into poured concrete. The hammer action works excellent for chasing, removing plaster etc but as expected the it had limitations where poured concrete was involved. I also had a 25mm spade bit when boring wooden beams and it was more than capable. I bought the 4.0Amh One+ battery and it really does it justice.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI purchased mine from a B&Q that was closing down. 80 for the drill, fast charger and a 1.5ah battery in a mustard yellow bag. I already had the original 18v SDS but wanted the chisel option and a spare charger and this deal was too good to miss. At first the drill lacked punch and power but the more I used it the power and hammer action got better. I really have not idea why but I had the same issue with the Ryobi circular saw in that out of the box it would stall when it struggled a bit and now it just keeps on going. The chisel option is never going to replace a 240v drill (well maybe a Black and Decker) so don’t get it if that’s your requirement but as a strong, sturdy hammer action drill it’s fine up to 16’s through concrete block and brick all day long with a 5ah battery. Forget using these with anything under a 4ah. They just perform better. As for the chisel it’s perfect for lifting tiles and cleaning snot of blocks and bricks without the hassle of a cable . For those complaining it won’t stand up on the battery just lay it on it’s side. First world problems or what.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI have quite an array of Ryobi tools which I have bought over the last five years renovating a house. Brilliant value and quality and this is no exception.

Bought because I wanted the convenience of a cordless drill able to easily make holes in walls for plugs and able to use the existing pile of batteries I already have.

Build quality is superb and easily as good as my Makita tools. It has a weighty heft to it and all the controls work smoothly. The SDS chuck is able to be used one handed. At least until I do something that fills it with dust and grit I guess.

It is yet another top class Ryobi product. But not five stars. And that’s for one small niggle that really gets on my pip. It won’t stand up. All of the other Ryobi tools I have will sit on the battery base nicely – which the battery is designed for with small rubber feet. On this rotary hammer drill though the weight forward design means that when you try to stand it on the battery base it falls over. This may not seem like a big deal, but if you are perched somewhere and you have a plank of wood close by you tend to stand the drill up on the base for easy return use. This drill falls over though so you have to be quite careful how you place it if you are used to other Ryobi cordless drills.

It is a small irritation in fairness because overall this is a very, very good tool.

At first I thought it was rubbish, but after a few days at work it’s not that bad , I am a electrician and I use it constantly throughout the day, the chizel function is quite handy too,I now have most of the ryobi range and I am still adding more

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThe first one of these I received had a very wonky chuck (as other reviewers have noticed). The replacement was a lot better, but still not perfect. So this is obviously a weakness in the design – make sure you check yours.

Apart from that, though, it’s a great bit of kit.

UPDATE: On reflection, and thinking about my various ONE+ tools (I have LOADS of them), I can’t help thinking that the newer yellow ones aren’t built to the same standard as the older blue ones. Some of the functionality has improved, but the build quality and QA seems poorer. So far I’ve had yellow-tool failures with this, an angle grinder (which burned out) and an impact wrench (which kept cutting out). Never had a problem with any of my blue tools.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI am from Canada, this drill isn’t available for sale anywhere in North America, I was skeptical to order it being from Canada, and the length of time that it would take to receive the product and as well how well it would work for the money that I’m spending on it. It came in 3 days, thats just impressive. Then actually using the product, WOW! I use a 20v xr brushless dewalt SDS at work, and this thing puts it to shame. I have switched over to Ryobi products and I’ve never been happier. This thing is light, I can use it all day long for suspended cieling anchor bolts, I can use it for tap conning 3/16 inch 14 gauge heavy gauge structural steel to cement. I just recieved it and had to leave a review of my expierence. This drill is the cats ass. Now if Ryobi would make a 18v Cordless Drywall gun comparible to the dewalt, Makita, or Hilti, then I would have the most diverse and comprehensive tool setup possible and known to man. Green Beam Cross Hair Caulk Line Lasers that resemble a dewalt dw089k would be the end all to end all, probably cause a Ryobi Revolution.

I was very surprised the shipper shipped all the way to California. I got the sds drill with in a week and I am very pleased. In our family business construction we have all brands of tools (Hilti, Milwaukee, dewalt, makita, hitachi) so I am familiar with all the brands. The tool has great features and Im pleased with the performance. Has the same amount of performance as our hilti sds rotary hammer 18v but the ryobi has a chipping function which is us full for removing tile and small sections of stucco. I am a big fan of the one+ system because compatibility with their product line and the tools do hold up to abuse.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFitted with a 4.0Ah battery (and believe me the battery is the key!), I was able to drill 200mm deep holes into a concrete foundation. Really impressed, that’s some serious power, but as I say, having the 4.0Ah battery is the key if you want that kind of oomph.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSo much easier to use than a corded SDS drill. With the 4ah battery you have the power to drill most things

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersSo I bought one of these and the sds chuck was not true and would wobble all over the place which made it a little difficult to drill with, I contacted Amazon and they sent me a new one strait away and this one is perfect so five stars from me for that, The drill itself is very good and has no trouble drilling 10mm holes into red brick, the chisel is a nice feature and is handy for light chiseling, compared to my Hitachi 24v it’s quite tame but it is a very small drill in comparison, I think the only issue I have is the design it seems as if its for one handed use, if you hold the drill with two hands one with the handle and the other were the motor is it does get very hot on the hand after a while and if your using the drill with one hand with a 4.0ah battery its a bit too heavy for me. But to be honest its a very good all round drill and I would recommend this drill for light to medium use the trade off is worth it.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI’ve had this combi drill for about 3 months now and it has proved very versatile. It is compact, ergonomic and powerful. Looks great too. The grip on the handle is very good thanks to the hard rubber coating.
The drill acceleration and braking speed are very good, and so is the hammering power for such a compact drill. Although there is no speed control selector, it is fairly easy to control the speed by adjusting the pressure applied to the ON button. Being an SDS hammer combi drill, it has a 4 modes selector allowing it to be used as a standard drill, a hammer drill or for chiselling. I used it mainly as a standard drill to build wooden shelves/tables, using a mandrill connected to the drill through an SDS adaptor. It felt very natural to use it that way, not so different to a standard cordless drill. The only thing I would say is that the added mandrill slightly increased the already front loaded weight distribution, but the drill could still be used one handed allowing the spare hand to hold screws or the part to be screwed in place.
It also drilled through bricks using the hammering mode with SDS bits without problem. It is not as quick as my standard mains connected hammer drill, but again for such a compact drill, it did the job. I cannot comment on the chiselling function as I have yet to use this mode.
It came with an 18V 1.5Ah Lithium ONE+ battery which is very thin. It takes 1 hour to charge, which can seem quite long nowadays, but thanks to the Lithium technology it lasts a long time, during use, but also keeps its charge when left unused. I picked it up again after 3 weeks and the battery still had plenty of charge left. It is equipped with a very useful built-in LED battery charge indicator. The battery is part of the ONE+ range which can be used on all power tools of the same range.
As mentioned earlier, the weight distribution is heavier towards the front which means that it cannot stand on what would seem an ideally suited large foot/ flat battery base between uses, which is a shame as it would make it easier to pick up again. May be it would stand up with the heavier 4Ah battery pack, but then the overall weight would increase too, making it less practical to use one handed I guess.
All in all, I am very happy with this multi-function combi drill, good compact size, ergonomic, versatile, very easy to use and with a good battery life.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersI already have a number of Ryobi tools, so when the requirement (well, I say requirement, it was more “you can never have too many tools”) for a cordless sds came up, this was first on the list. The real selling point is that this is one of the few battery sds drills with a rotary stop mode.

Out of the box, the drill is a nice weight and certainly feels solidly built. With an 8mm drill bit fitted, the hammer action made light work of drilling some holes to put a set of shelves up. The drill was quick, yet controllable. Crucially, too, the chuck is dead true – there is no tip wiggle that sometimes plagues drills. Out if interest, I tried the chiselling mode on some rubble. It’s a nice level of impact that I would be happy using all day long to do slightly more delicate chiselling jobs, such as clearing tiles off looser substrates.

Don’t get me wrong, this will not be replacing my 900w 3.5kg Makita for putting 110mm vents through walls, but it is not designed for that, and I imagine Ryobi would take a rather dim view of a warranty return following such (ab)use…

All in all, this is a great drill that fills that gap between a normal cordless and having to use a mains SDS. I can easily foresee that this drill will actually fill the space which my Bosch 500 RE filled. It’s as capable, lighter, has more operation modes, and you’re not tied to a mains cable. It’s also nicer to work with due to the reduced SPL and the built in shock absorption.

    Basically, I love this drill.
