Bought as Christmas present for 9 year old grandson, as with all Scalextric good quality product, although could have done with some rails where the bends are to stop the cars coming off regularly. The bluetooth can be a bit temperamental but overall works fine, he was especially pleased with the jump that`s included where the cars do actually land back on the track after the jump. Would recommend.

It was not made clear in the advert that wired hand controls were not included OR that they could be purchased unlike other sellers who RECOMEND and give which type of wired controls can be used. After all who can give 2 6 year olds 2 phones to play on a scalextric.

Bought for my young lad (and secretly for myself) the track is decent with plenty of action parts. And the new phone/ ipad aspect is great as adds some variety but importantly let’s you limit the speed for younger players.

The app is fiddly to get working. You need to down load it, then make sure your Bluetooth and location services are accessible by the app. Then shut down the app before turning the sparkplug adapter on and then connecting to it via Bluetooth. Get the order wrong and it won’t connect. Now I’ve figured the order out it connects everytime.

The good points are value, novel way of racing, look of the cars and plenty of excitement with the features of the track.

The downside is getting the app to work and the jump set up can be fiddly.

Over all great fun and pleased with it.

This was being tested by a 33 year old boy 😉 Once set up it is huge, so take this on to consideration before you buy! His first impressions of the Scalextric spark plug Batman vs Joker set were good. Really liked the concept of using a mobile phone to control the cars through Bluetooth. Putting it together was relatively straightforward and the app easy to use (on an Apple iPhone). While not perfect the app has some great features and adds to the fun. The thing is, we don’t have room to let it stay set up so I think you would need that to get the full value from this – perhaps a games room?

This is a very expensive toy and I’m not quite sure if it’s worth the asking price but it is great fun and take Scalextric to a new level with the use of bluetooth dongles and the app. I downloaded the app on to my iPad and iPhone while our son set the track. The track is relatively straightforward to assemble and the app downloaded and installed fine on iOs. The app certainly adds a new dimension to Scalextric and there are lots of nice touches like the ability to change to a different character rather than just the two default characters that come in the set. Some of the gameplay in the app is a bit confusing but then again I guess you don’t have to stick to it. The built is good quality even though there have been plenty of knocks along the way! An expensive toy but it’s nice to see Scalextric taking things to a new level.

Myself and my nephew assembled this track in only a matter of minutes, getting everything in place including the cool jump.

The design and manufacture of these Scalextric sets is really unparalleled. Its simply amazing. Well worth the money.

The cars look incredible, blending real life LMP style cars with cartoon or superhero vibes. A hit with both of us as he loves superheros and I love racing!

The cars move incredibly fast and I was really dubious about the jump but it works so well. I remember having these as a kid and having to keep cleaning and adjusting the little brushes. You dont need to do this anymore 🙂

This is a really great set, lots of fun, and you can pair it up with other games and use the winner of this to decide things. We regularly do this to add a little competition and fun to other activities.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI got this for my 8 years old boy and he have no problem assembling the Scalextric tracks, he follow the instruction and built it within half an hour. Without help he managed to install the spark plug app on his ipad mini and within minutes he is racing away leaving me struggling to get the app and connection. I am using a android device and after 15 minutes of messing around settings I managed to enable Bluetooth location permission for the app and then it started to work.

There are a list of interesting feature which makes this game fun and keep his attention going for hours. The app is easy to control the speed of the car, on top of there there is a brake button, then there is the boost (go Faster) and the block button which allows you to stop the other person dead on the track! However, as fun as it is the halt button does not come with much warning, it does make a sound on the app but more oftern than not we not sure if the car have off track or the other person use the special halt function.

You can choose different characters in the app which will play different background music, when you sent the car flying off the track you will see the screen showing CRASH! which makes it more fun and engaging.

The jumping platform can be adjusted or removing completely, the cars have working headlight and after hours of fun in the afternoon we played it in the dark and it brings another few hours of laughter racing in the dark.

The crossroad have non conductive connection and if you car stopped at the junction it will not move until you give it a push. Also if you approach the ramp too slowly you can get trapped where the rear wheel does not connect with the floor and loose traction. When pressing the halt button your opponent will stop for a few seconds but there is no way to tell if that is happening so we end up trying rescue the car when not needed. Five star if they can fix those issue.

A nice trip down memory lane, and fun for the nephew. A modern take on the original scalectrix, which works in pretty much the same way… but instead of using controllers you have to use a mobile device with an app. This is a bit of a drawback.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFirst of all, you need a flat large area.
    It’s easy to set up.
You download an app on your smartphone and control the cars with Bluetooth.
In the app, you can choose different characters.
It was really hard to connect to cars the first time.
There is a bit lag but it doesn’t affect playing.
The cars are very good quality but the rear spoiler of Batman’s race car has already fallen off.
It works perfectly and is better than I expected.
You need some practice to control the cars.
All in all, We all really enjoyed setting up and playing. Its a lot of fun every age.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt’s been a long time since I last played Scalextric and it certainly was nothing like this. Whilst the track and the cars seem similar, the method of control is very different. Rather than using dedicated hand held controllers, you download an app on your smartphone and use that to control the cars. The slight problem is that you need two smartphones to control both cars although, given that most people have at least one smartphone, maybe this isn’t significantly problematic. As far as I’m aware, you can also use dedicated hand held controllers but these aren’t supplied and will need to be acquired separately.

The track layout is very easy to construct as all the pieces just clip together. Slotting the cars onto the track is also very easy. Keeping them on the track is an entirely different matter.

I found that using anything greater than 50% speed, the car would fly off the track at every corner and underneath a piece of furniture. Given the length of straight track between the corners is very short, it seems that it is impossible to get the cars to go much faster than that. I guess that is part of the skill in using a Scalextric set, to ensure that you get the speed just right at every point in order to avoid a crash, whilst going every so slightly faster than your opponent.

The track layout also introduces a couple of points of jeopardy, including a crossover point and a narrow track section, both of which provide the very real risk of a crash (so avoid these at all costs).

It is a fun set to construct and race however, I did find myself getting slightly frustrated with the amount of times the car left the track (virtually every lap of the track). Maybe I’m just not skilled enough and need a lot more practice! As an added bonus, for any Batman fans, this just adds an additional thrill to the race

Last time i had a scalextric mobile phones wasn’t even a thing!
Now with this updated set the mobile phone is the controller unbelievable
For the smart phone generation this is easy to connect and use and does add another layer of fun to the races
We have used this with a few different phones from Samsung to iPhone and seems to be good on all of them
I wish there was a few track options as it can become repetitive but apart from that
We have had a lot of fun and for me brought back some memory
The input lag seems acceptable from the phone

Stragithforward set-up of the race track you will need a good large flat area of space to lay the track on. Download the app to mobile device and sync with the dongle to enable connection to your car. There are various customisation set-up and configuration that you can do within the app. Plug in the transformer to mains to provide power to the track which is 15v. The tricky bit is the taking of the curves at the right speed and the jump which is a challenge. We found as a family and in practise the racing set worked well and there were no hiccups, the occasional loss of signal. I do have another racing set that uses app controllers and that had the same issue occasionally. The purchase of wired controllers is definitely a good option if considering. Overall a great set for anyone one to play and a great idea to play at Christmas against relatives. The single player mode vs. is a good option as well. Playing this race car set with children is fun and a highly enjoyable.

his is a great track – really impressive and brilliant quality as you’d expect from scalextric. love it.

i have to knock a star off because the wireless control is really not stable or reliable. once paired, it will work but it’s very laggy and then will unpair and will take a few goes to pair again. it’s not stable or reliable at all.

in the end i had to resort to using a wired controller, which works as the spark plugs are obviously the same connection. i am not sure if it’s a problem with the phone or the app or the spark plugs – i don’t think it’s the internet or wifi, as i have a very fast connection and i think these are bluetooth anyway, maybe the app just needs some work.

As a kid I had a Scalextric set with 2 hand controllers and lots of track.

This set brought back a lot of memories for me. The odd thing is it’s very hightech as in no hand controllers. Have to use mobile and app. Not an issue really as it makes it more fun.

Very easy to set up if you have the room. Very easy to control if you have the app. It’s just an awesome set any kid or Dad will love to play with for many many hours.

I do like it but can only give it a 4-5. I like the hand controllers for these. Using a phone is tricky with my hands. It’s good though for the whole family. Great set and great fun for all.
