Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHaving never used a CCTV camera before I can’t compare it to others, but I am very happy with this camera. As an oldie I was apprehensive about setting it up, but it really was simple, also added a second camera and that too was easy. The quality of the picture during daylight is very clear and the nighttime colour is really clear. I love the fact that I can pan the camera around using the app on my phone, no hidden corners. I’m really happy with the camera and am happy to recommend it to others, it’s a good solid build, maybe a bit bigger than some but still aesthetically ok.

Excellent build quality with the solar-powered operation being a huge bonus in ease of fitting and saving energy costs. The cloud edge app is easy to install and pair the device to. You can also adjust how you’re notified and how often — and muted if needed!

The picture quality (1080P HD) is pretty decent. I have no complaints especially as this camera runs on solar power, which I didn’t expect to be as good as a wired version — it certainly is on par with some of the others that I have tried.

Connectivity can be poor — my wifi isn’t excellent at the best of times and sometimes the connection breaks. This can be a little annoying if I want to look at the camera on the app quickly. I also found that the lens can have condensation occasionally, which affects the picture quality and surveillance.

Overall, a decent solar camera with plenty of good features. The solar-powered element works well and makes this camera very easy to fit. Recommended

Well now this is finally fitted and had a while to top up its battery it is working ok and a useful tool mounted near to my door.

It records video at 1920x1080P at 15 frames per second at a bitrate of 1mbps and snapshots, both of these are recorded to a micso sd card or to the mobile device you are watching the camera on.
Audio is good both ways, the intercom system is quite loud and the built in microphone is sensitive enough.

    Fitting it was fun though.
Mounting: I found mounting this a little bit tricky. The solar panel was easy enough as it is a standard camera wall mount but the camera itself is a bit more fiddly, not ideal when up a ladder.
There is a slot on the bottom and 2 holes on the top close to the camera so you will need a long screwdriver to clear the camera with the screwdriver handle. Because the bottom fixing is a slot and is not accessible when the camera is in place it needs to be fixed first, you then rest the camera on the bottom screw while you mark the drill points for the top 2 screws, then remove the camera, drill and plug the holes then balance it on the bottom screw while trying to get the top screws in, all up a ladder, with only 2 arms!

Network: A camera this price should be compatible with modern home broadband installations so why do manufacturers insist on leaving out the 5ghz wifi band, the module cant cost that much to fit a dual band one instead? Because of this i am limited where i can install the camera as most of my system uses 5ghz.

Camera: IR Night vision is stated as being 65ft, in perfect conditions perhaps it is, i am only seeing 40-50ft at my location

On the white bracket part of the camera is the micro usb connector for direct connection to usb power for an initial charge up, then to replace the cable with the solar panel connection.
The solar panel has a couple of feel of cable, this allows for better location of the panel for maximum light capture
On the black part of the camera is a small rubber flap, under here is a micro sd card slot for local recording, power and reset buttons

Cloud Edge app – I quite like this app, it is fully featured yet simple to use, move the camera, start/stop recording and intercom functions, even sharing previous recordings is easy, i sent my files direct to my Google Drive, it would be nice to be able to ftp to it without paying a monthly subscription.

The live preview picture can be full screen or windowed on the mobile device, buttons for screenshot, intercom, record, motion detection, ptz and audio/lighting warning, the next page has Album which is where the snapshots and recordings are located, you can view or share them.
The settings screen shows device information, notification switch, install guide, location management, network indicator switch, time setting, image setting, sound setting, alarm management, battery management, recording management, cloud storage service, upgrade.

I have a dual band sky hub which the camera failed to connect to the 2.4 band.
So to fix this I added a edimax single band wifi repeater that picks up only 2.4 and transmits it.
Connected to the Edimax repeater and now works a treat.

For an install yourself solo camera this is a great and well worth the money.

Installation is a breeze and with some planning for location so that you can maximise the sun time for the solar panel it’s very easy to pop up anywhere. Ours is installed on the front of the garage and went up really easily with all wires hidden easily to.

Picture quality is great to in 1080p you can see right across the street clearly. The network connectivity is good and although the memory card is not supplied it’s not to much of a hassle to playback or watch.

    Highly recommend!

This is pretty good. I find for the price, it’s a good way of easing anxiety when I’m out and would like to see what’s going on.

Unlike the branded cameras (Nest, etc) I find that the apps let these down slightly, as they’re quite user-unfriendly and language translated, however it does work well as a single camera not linked to any others. Once it’s set up, it’s a very clear picture with only a few seconds lag.

The solar panel has massively solved a problem, as I live in a rented property and so don’t have any way of wiring in a camera. It works ok, but does have shortages due to the low light we get during winter in the U.K. Thankfully it does have backup power, and I would suggest not buying this solely on its solar power capabilities, as it works intermittently but is quite unreliable.

The camera quality is excellent and it’s remained waterproof. It’s been perfect for what I need.

Great image quality from this tiny camera even night vision is good but backed up by a surprising bright flood light when needed.
Overall wide angle isn’t great but you’ve got pan and tilt which unfortunately are not motion following.
I made a small bracket to mount to my home and even paid for the cloud service I was that happy with the camera quality.
Solar panel is not up to much and where I have it mounted it’s not enough day light to power it all the time So does require a full top up via usb but I’ve just used a powerbank to do this to save moving the camera off it’s mount.
    I recommend this camera!

    Fantastic camera quality

This feels like really decent quality for the price (It’s at 100 right now). I think that’s really good. The picture quality is also excellent and the night mode works well too. There’s not really much I can fault with this. You don’t even need to wire it in as it’s solar powered! That makes it really flexible (As long as you have some light – it doesn’t need full sun though).

It moves, which is another great feature and fab for this price point. There is no zoom – not really, but the picture shows enough and my other cameras don’t have a real zoom, just a digital one and, because the picture quality is so good, zooming in on the app works fine. Which brings me to the app, also good!

Overall I just can’t fault it and I think it’s a really good solution for CCTV that is cheap and affordable for everybody. Plus with the rising cost of electricity, it’s even better!

I had my son in law test this and he said was simple to instal and set up.The camera arrives in branded box and has clear instructions booklet, he loves the No wires installation and only thing need do is find spot that gets good sunlight. They fitted on balcony overlooking garden and garage and he says the images and audio are clear it has micro SD slot ( SD card not included). He tested the alarm and it is loud but he just has on spotlight feature at moment as he didn’t think neighbours would appreciate alarm and strobe , the spotlight is good brightness and lights up good area also useful when coming home or putting out bins. The app is simple to use and overall his opinion is this is great bit of kit that is simple to fit and use and gives added reassurance

Good camera all round. This is true value for money and works really well. The night vision illumination is far better than I was anticipating, and the general image quality is brilliant. The attached solar panel keeps the battery well charged for day to day use. The battery life is excellent and as long lasting as stated, so far. Camera has been in use for about a month and battery is still almost full. If you find it doesnt connect to your wifi its because you need to activate 2.4ghz on your router.

I haven’t had this long enough to explore all the features and functionality of this remote solar powered security camera, but what I can say is that based on a short term test this unit appears to be very good indeed.

My first impression out of the box was the quality of camera, solar panel and the fittings. Everything seems to have been well thought through in terms of the weather-proofing of the electrical connections, including the SD card slot and on/off switch.

This is my first experience of a camera such as this, but everything is pretty straightforward and intuitive in terms of installation and operation. The CloudEdge app is very slick and so far has exceeded my expectations.

The real-time remote operation of the camera from my iPhone is excellent and the imaging is very clear indeed. I like the excellent range of motion on the camera and the operation of the motors inside is barely audible.
The battery performance claims are probably accurate, as I left the unit switched on in the box without power for close to four weeks and it had barely used any power.

My WiFi router is 5GHz, but also has a 2.4GHz channel, which I selected as this camera only works on the lower frequency. Initially I thought this was a weakness until someone explained that whilst not as fast 2.4GHz travels better through walls, which makes sense.

I’m using an SD card in the device as I didn’t want to sign up for Cloud storage and I’m happy with this as the camera is well out of reach for anyone to access the card.

Personally, I would have preferred a black plastic housing for the camera, solar panel and bracket as white is going to look scruffy once it’s been exposed to the elements for a while, but that’s my personal choice and others will no doubt prefer white.

I love the fact that you can install this camera quickly and simply and without having to link it up to internal recorders or cabling etc. It’s quite literally a plug and play device in the truest sense and has brought peace of mind for when we are away from home.

If the features that I haven’t tested yet are as good as the ones that I have then this will be a great security device. So, based on my experience so far I would definitely be able to recommend this security camera for domestic and light commercial use.

    Impressive!

For the money this is an excellent security camera, especially when you consider that the camera is free to run using the solar panel.

It’s easy to set up. It needs a 2.4 GHz WiFi signal to connect to your network, so if you also have a 5 GHz signal then you must disable that first or you’ll spend ages wondering why it won’t connect! Once it’s connected, you can turn your 5 GHz signal back on if you want to.

If you want it to record any pictures or videos then you have to provide your own Micro SD card (up to 128GB capacity). The camera has the capability to record to the cloud, but this requiies a paid subscription after a 7-day free trial. I expect it would connect to a Network Video Recorder too if you have one, but I’ve not tried that yet.

The Cloudedge app works well for viewing live footage etc. Within the app you can also activate the siren – i.e. you get a notification on your phone if the camera detects motion, you check and see someone suspicious so you can immediately sound the alarm and also make the light spotlight or strobe too which is useful at night. You can set it to respond automatically but the sensitivity outdoors means it will sometimes give a false alarm, though you can experiment with the 10 sensitivity settings to find one that works best for your context.

The image quality is very good – not quite as good as my other security camera, but for 1080p Full HD is certainly good enough if needed for security purposes to identify people, cars etc. Night vision is also good.

The camera seems well built and it’s withstood awful storm conditions so far. It’s easy to install the camera and solar panel to your house, shed etc. the provided drill hole template is helpful.

Battery life is good, the solar panel recharges it well. The battery life only becomes an issue if you set it up to record it for long periods all day and night during dark, winter days – this is because you gradually use more power than it can put back in and eventually it needs to be fully recharged. It helps to install the solar panel carefully to optimise how effective it is.

    Overall, a very good system.

I’ve had a fair amount of experience in relation to Cctv systems. I’ve fitted 2 complete Cctv systems with NVR’s at different locations and have used all manner of different cameras, some POE wired , some BNC & Coax wired systems and a number of wired Wifi cameras connected to the systems via Onvif protocol.

I consider I have a reasonable knowledge and judgement on build and picture quality, low light performance and usability etc.

The item arrived in a nicely presented box complete with camera, solar panel ( with moulded in cable) , mount, separate charge cable, instructions , fitting template , screws and wall plugs.

    Short summary:

    PROS:
    Very nice build quality
Being Solar powered no power source needed offering multiple mounting options/locations.
Fairly long cable on the solar panel (2.5 metres approx)
    Initialisation process was easy
Phone App (CloudEdge) works really with well lots of options
Notifications can be muted for an hour or longer (if false activations through wind or rain)
    Compact size
    Decent 1080P HD picture quality
    Wide field Of view
Siren & Light can be selected independently of each other
Pan & Tit works really well via App
Solar panel keeps the battery topped up even in UK winter sun
MicroSD card can be used rather than paying for cloud service
You don’t keep getting badgered to sign up to cloud service
    Good Night vision.

    CONS:
NOT ZOOM that is merely achieved by pinching phone screen
Wifi connection can be a little flakey at times
Lens (Outside of lens) suffers condensation when weather is freezing
Lens Can Suffer From Light Refraction If facing another Infrared light/camera
Solar panel cable is moulded in limiting adaption
    Not ONVIF Compatible
Infrared can attract flies/small bugs in summer( but that is a general issue with all cameras)

    Full summary:

    Camera & Solar Panel

First off this camera IS NOT ZOOM. That is frankly misleading . I have seen this play on words before and it is not Zoom Zoom is purely digital by pinching the image on your phone which pixelates the image, unlike real optical Zoom which uses the optics to enlarge the image and properly zoom in. If I wanted a proper zoom I would look elsewhere but obviously will expect to pay a lot more for that facility. It IS proper pan and tilt though.

It feels very well constructed and has a nice solid feel to it. The solar panel is nicely finished enclosed in white plastic.

Installation was fairly simple using the template and screws provided ( I attached mine to a wooden fence post). I then sited the solar panel within reach of the cable ( which is about 2.5 metres long) screwed it to a post and plugged the wire in through the silicon weather grommet underneath the camera. Very simple and straight forward.

There was plenty of length of cable to get the panel in a decent position to face up to the sky.

Image quality was decent HD, nothing amazing but certainly decent enough. It also has a very wide field of view to cover a good wide area.

Being powered by solar is a really good feature it allows me loads of possibilities regarding siting the camera without the need to worry about a power source . This gives it lots of versatility and I can set it up temporarily if I want to cover another area of the house. Obviously all I need is a clear’ish view of the sky for the panel.

The only downside is the solar panel cable is moulded in , so less scope for adaption although I guess it feasible to extend the micro-usb cable with an extension if a location point is problematic as long as it is protected from weather ingress.

I’m been very impressed with the battery power and retention. I have had this camera operating for over 3 weeks now and the battery has occasionally dropped down to 3/4 but is now back at 100% and that is with the odd day of winter sun but generalIy grey weather.
It has hardly been in any full sun, so for me that is extremely good and shows the solar panel although fairly small ( 16cm x 12 cm ) is producing a good output back into the camera.

On that basis I can see this being very good in the summer for keeping it going and topped up well.

I only have it to record motion detection for 20 seconds if I had it on 24/7 record not sure how the battery would fair this time of year but for me it has been exceptional so far. Also I don’t have the siren or light set. Obviously it will use far more battery power especially if it is liable to give false activations due to its location despite the detection level being turned right down..

I tried the alarm siren and spot-lights ( you can alter the audio volume ). The good thing is they can be selected independently of each other in the app (Settings/Alarm/Audio warning & Strobe Light)

The alarm siren was plenty loud enough. I wouldn’t have left the it on as I don’t think my neighbours would appreciate that going off every time it detected motion real or false.

The 2 lights was pretty bright but it only activated when I was within another 3 metres of the camera, not while I was in the normal motion detection range. They will only work at night.

I guess the idea is it will only activate if a person was approaching the building/door etc to prevent false activations and unnecessary use of the battery.

The spotlight footage was captured in full colour, probably as the area is also well lit by 2 other security lights that had come on in the back garden.

Night vision is very good on the whole but when the camera was facing another infrared light on the house this caused a bit of a light lens refraction spot on screen. (Photo). I tilted it down slightly and that moved the spot onto the grass area so wasn’t so obvious on the screen and hardly noticeable. So it improved it although it didn’t completely resolve the issue.

One real issue I’ve had though is on freezing nights condensation has built up on the outside of the lens and PIR lens (not inside) causing very blurry picture and stops the PIR motion alerts from working until it clears, which is either after a few hours or after I’ve had to wipe it with a soft cloth.

It’s not such an issue for me as the camera is at arms height set back in the garden so It’s easy for me just to go out and wipe it clean with a lint free cloth. However this is going to be an issue if I decided to site the camera up high on the building and out of reach. I either would have to wait for it to clear naturally or get the ladder out. So not the best. ( see pics )

    The App

The App is called CloudEdge. Linking to app extremely easy using a QR code on my phone in front of the camera lens at which point you hear a cuckoo sound and it was ready.

The app responds quickly and is very easy to view footage and navigate between the various options on the main screen ( Live, History/ Record/ Intercom/PTZ/ Screen Shot/ Settings etc)

It sends notifications within a second of motion activation. It’s been very reliable in the respect . It can take a while sometime to link to the camera and wifi can be a little flakey at times , but to be fair it is about 30 metres from my router indoors.

I also like the fact that on a day when I was getting false activations (a windy day with washing blowing) or if someone is working in the garden etc setting off the motion detection the app senses it and it sends me a message asking if I want to mute notifications for an hour or the day. A neat idea.

I must say that the PTZ control is very quick and responsive hardly any delay when panning the lens in the app.

The calendar viewing automatically plays through the segments one after another on a given day without the need to scrub along the time line which was also a nice feature.

Unfortunately for me it is not Onvif compatible (Open Network Video Interface Forum Protocol), presumably due to encryption . Obviously encryption is a good thing but it does not allow me to link the Cctv signal to my NVR (Network Video recorder).

    Summary

A really well built camera with decent HD image quality and wide field of view . The solar panel is a great addition and has worked exceptionally well at keeping the battery topped up even in the Uk winter sun (or lack of it).Being solar powered it also offers numerous mounting options whether permanent or temporary where no power supply is available.

At the price (99 at the time of the review) it’s a shame that it suffers condensation in the frost which I’ll need to mark it down for, albeit this won’t be an issue in the summer or if the cameras is easily accessible to wipe.
I wouldn’t expect that issue for a camera at that price point albeit it might be a victim of its own success by the fact that by not being on constant power it doesn’t stay warm enough to prevents this happening in the frost.

That said overall I’m very chuffed with this camera and the saving of electricity at the same time will be helping the environment.

A no hassle set up and a solid quality camera makes this a good value product.

What I like most about this is that it is a wireless setup. It saves so much time while also maintaining its usefulness. To control and view from the camera, you need to have an app installed.

I’m usually against downloading apps alongside my Amazon products but this one is needed for it to function. The app is easy to use and from there, you can control the camera around.

The image feed stores itself in either cloud storage or an onboard SD card. The cloud storage option is a subscription based service and I personally like my storage in physical form. Quality wise, the feed you get from this camera is solid. The lighting from this camera is also nice and bright.

All in all, I’m very satisfied with this camera.

Other reviewers have mentioned that they’d prefer this to be able to use 5GHz WiFi. While it’s true that only using 2.4GHz might be a cost saving measure, it’s actually a good thing to connect it to 2.4GHz and even if it had the option of 5GHz, personally I wouldn’t use it. The reason being that 2.4GHz WiFi has better range and a better ability to get a signal through obstacles like walls. The main advantage of 5GHz is higher speed, but it comes at the cost of range, and a 1080p camera just doesn’t need the additional speed that 5GHz offers. Given that the camera will be on the outside of your house and your WiFi router is almost certainly inside, that’s at least one external wall the signal has to go through. So 2.4GHz is the right choice. 5GHz would probably give worse performance in reality.

Anyway, it’s a great camera. Easy to install. I like the drill template which makes it very easy to get the screws in the right place. The cable that connects the solar panel to the camera is long enough to run around a corner so that you can position the solar panel on a sunnier side of the building if necessary. Once in place it all looks quite professional and I think it would be a decent deterrent.

I like that it uses the CloudEdge app because it’s a fairly mature app that works well and is compatible with cameras from a few different manufacturers. I already had it installed because of another camera, and this works well with it. Everything’s clearly laid out and easy to use.

Image quality is really good, and being to pan and zoom the camera makes it so much more useful than normal fixed position cameras. It covers a huge area comapred to the small fixed camera it replaced, but of course it can only see part of that area at once.

Great that video storage is local (you have to supply your own micro SD card – these are very cheap now), but obviously that means it could be removed if the camera is accessible. You also have the option of paying for cloud storage via the app for additional security.

Overall this is an excellent camera that ticks all the right boxes for me.

The camera unit and panel are relatively straightforward to fit with a little DIY ability and simple tools such as a drill, masonry bits and screwdriver. Once fitted we were happy the panel and camera were positioned in the best location and angles to charge the battery. We set up through the Cloudedge App which was relatively straightforward as the app is user friendly and fairly intuitive. A Micro-SD card is a free alternative to signing up to the full app if required although some of the features of the app won’t be present if choosing this option. No issues with the connection to our wireless network and it was ready to go.

The clarity of image and recording quality is superb and equally effective for both day and night recording and monitoring.

The app is usable worldwide and offers multiple features such as the ability to pan and tilt remotely. There are similarities with a well-known doorbell brand as the ability to listen to and record sound, and indeed project your voice is also featured on the app. Makes life easier for deliveries and even better for warding off potential intruders when you’re not home. There are notifications sent to the phone and usually without delay.

In summary, at this price point, it’s a lot of camera that provides an effective deterrent and I’m more than happy to recommend it.

I decided to give this the best chance possible, I gave it a day to get some charge before testing it to be fair and it lasted the full 24 hours of my test so if it can do this in winter this is going to have reserve power for a long time in the lighter months. The video quality is very good in both day and night mode.

The app for this camera is Cloud edge which you download onto your phone, I’ve used this app many times before and really like it, you can also sign up for the small monthly fee through cloud edge to make use of the cloud storage so any footage isn’t kept in the camera which I think is a must-have, you can also record on the camera itself with a micro sd card.

Once you have the app downloaded and it all set up you can log into the camera from anywhere in the world via your phone and even pan and tilt the camera around remotely, whilst also being able to both listen and speak through the camera which is very handy for deliveries, and you’ll know when there is a delivery as you can have it alert you via phone notifications.

All in all this is a totally wire-free self sufficient security camera that works well, I really have no problem giving this 5 stars.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFirstly, this camera only operates on 2.4G Wifi, and uses a Micro SD card (up to 128GB) that you will need to provide yourself.
It is really easy to fit, but make sure that you install the solar panel in a place where it can receive the maximum amount of sunlight, and also ensure your camera can receive a good Wifi signal.
You need to download the Cloudedge app from the Google or Apple app store, and register an account to get the full benefits. It is very easy to set up.
Picture quality is excellent, as is the field of vision (which, incidentally, is not 360 degrees, but still much, much better than most fixed lens cameras), and very clear night vision. There is a built in siren and strobe light that you can activate to scare off any potential intruders too, and this is all accessible through the app.
The manufacturers claim that the built-in backup battery can last from 4-6 months, which I can’t put to the test, so I will have to accept their word for that.
The app allows you to zoom in on details in the picture using the pinch screen on your phone, and even at max zoom in, the 1080p picture remains really clear.
The solar panel pivots, so you can angle it at any time to ensure it catches the optimum amount of sunlight.
All components are well made, and the camera itself is good, heavy, and solidly built.
For the money this is excellent value, and with one of them at the front of your property, and a second at the back, it’s a really cheap home security solution, as well as being much simpler to use than multi camera CCTV systems.
It gets a big recommendation from me.

It’s like the miracle Security camera I’ve been waiting for.

At first, I wasn’t taken with the bulk of this camera, and how much space this would occupy on the front of my house, but after installing it and seeing the results, I’m made up!

The solar panel is not that big and the lead that plugs into the camera is discrete but will need securing. You’ll have to think about where you get the best light and angle the solar panel in that direction, but installation was very easy, and as a first for me, it comes with template stickers to help in drilling the holes and putting in the wall plugs, fabulous.

Of course, none of that matters, if the camera isn’t reliable and the image quality is rubbish. But I’m glad to say, this was not the case, for 1080p the image quality was good and the playback was great, no tearing no blurriness, and I could see number plates across the road from my house, even whilst moving.

The app is solid, and connecting to my network was not an issue. The only downside is that it won’t connect to a 5Ghz Wi-Fi router, I had to rely on my 2.4 network to connect, for 2022, I find this unacceptable, they should accommodate more modern routers or even both standards. And if I had to be really picky, due to this relying on the sun to trickle charge, I can’t use one of these in my garage but its small beans.

The moaning aside, everything about this camera is excellent, the light is powerful, the alarm is great the tracking and AI is spot on, night vision superb and the clincher for me is, there’s no contract, you get all the features in one purchase and it even supplies its own electricity.

For that reason, I have to highly recommend this camera! I’m not even going to take one star for the 2.4G Wi-Fi only.

Without contract and without electricity cost.
