As I said, I have quite some experience with Tefal steam generators. This version glides better, steam and automatic temperature control are better. Very easy to fill with water and the descaling feature still very good.

Not all is better. The pressure hose storage is actually too short and that is probably why there now are openings where the excess hose can hang out.

It feels very sturdy, more than before where I have been slightly disappointed with the durability. The Tefal before this one lasted a bit less that 7 years. Maybe that is OK?

well so far so good and hope it lasts as our previous iron, impressed with efficiency and amount of time it saves ironing for family of 6. steam boost function is brilliant and constant steam is impressive as well , happy with the decision to go with this model than some less bar pressure ones.

I’ve tried half a dozen steam generator irons now, and this is up there with the best.

It’s not too big or too heavy. There’s a nice glide. It heats up pretty quickly, and doesn’t make too much noise.

There’s different settings to get the right heat and steam for different fabrics. But there’s really no need to use these; I love the auto steam function, which means you just iron through the ironing pile and it will adjust to the fabric automatically without making any adjustments. So easy!

My only gripe, and it is minor, is the cord is a bit short. Nothing an extension lead can’t sort though!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBeen using the same iron since college. Purchased this to help speed up ironing process as it was taking quite a while.
The speed at which it removes a crease is amazing. So quick it literally takes one pass over a side and it’s done. I use 50/50 deionised water and tap water as I have no issues with spotting or coloured water stains.
One little thing you need to be aware of is if you use a metal ironing board with mesh top, the steam goes through the board and condenses under the ironing board, either dripping on the floor or soaking into the ironing board cover.

This is a large, heavy appliance, but the iron itself is not overly heavy and is easy enough to wield. Obviously, the appliance has to be fairly capacious in order to hold the water required for steam generation. And it holds *lots* of water.

The iron works well producing lots of steam and working quickly at a good pressure. Clothes are quickly rendered creaseless. The device is easy to operate with clear controls and a good level of automation to avoid setting errors and fiddling about.

If you have the space and lots of ironing to get through, I’d recommend this appliance.

Been a tefal user for a while and as my one has stop working I was looking for something similar but this one has exceeded my expectation. I iron lots of clothes for work and I need something like that n was blown away by the power of the steam, all crease disappear straight away.
I will highly recommend to others

Life is too short to spend it ironing so do yourself a favour and invest in a steam generator iron. It is so much quicker and the results are far superior. Tefal I have found to be the best brand out of all I have tried Smooth through cotton, linen and other hard to iron fabrics with ease. This model features a scale collector and the ‘protect system’ to prevent stains from ironing. This version is fairly light compared to other irons I have tried and has a nice long power cable for ease. The results from my ironing basket were very impressive and the iron was very easy to use.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAlthough the unit is a big beast and holds loads of water, the actual iron is much lighter than our earlier model that we had scrapped after several repairs because of the amount of line scale it had begun to dump on clothes, no matter how often we cleaned it. This one is easy to handle.

This model has an exactly similar limescale collector but Tefal have changed their cleaning instructions, saying that the iron’s steam boiler should be regularly rinsed out as well. We’ll do that. Meanwhile this iron produces steam quickly and in great quantity at a good pressure, so it takes out creases swiftly and totally. The temperature controls have been simplified and automated, making this an impressive upgrade of what had always been an ironing workhorse. Spares are easy to get hold of and Tefal says that it is committed to providing them for many years. We saved over 100 by purchasing from an Irish supplier rather than from the mainland UK, so we are pleased with this iron.

What a joy, an iron that takes all of the hard work out of my mountain of ironing every week. My old iron gave up on me after many years of good service,so I treated myself to this one. Certainly not the cheapest, but an absolute joy to use.
It is very light weight. Supplies steam as it says it does. Simple genius idea with the locking. Cable and tubing pack away neatly and it irons bedding in a flash compared to others. Highly recommend this to others who are very particular about their ironing.

I bought this iron for my wife and it wasn’t even her birthday. My comments are based on what she told me. She said that the amount of steam produced is very good and comes out with a powerful force. One of the best irons she’s had. It took her a while to get used to the strange brackets that the iron fits into when put back on the stand, but within a couple of days, she found it OK.

While this iron/steamer does the job quite well, I found it very bulky and hard to use. It just didn’t feel as well as my traditional iron. I burnt myself the first time I tried using it, which I know will be down to user error so make sure you read the instructions more carefully than I did! Having said that, I still prefer my iron and board to this.
The iron separates from the base, which you fill with water, but be careful as this is quite hot. Make sure you have it on a flat surface as although heavy, it can still tip over.

This is a fantastic iron. I’ve had a lot in my time and the steam ones of late have been heavy, bulky with only one setting, which after a while means water drips everywhere. This appears to have been designed with all of those negatives taken into consideration. This iron is light and is designed so it stand vertically (many don’t). It has a variety of settings; a good size reservoir and a handy arm to lock the iron when not in use. Other reviews have stated the cord is too short. I have not found this to be a noticeable problem. I can’t fault it.

Normally I’d go into the pros and cons of an item I was reviewing, but in this case, things are pretty clear cut insofar as you either need this or you don’t:

For the aspiring B&B owner looking for an iron that can achieve semi-professional levels of rapid throughput, and without sacrificing quality, then this prosumer level beast of an iron’s is just what the doctor ordered.

However, for the house husband/wife looking for something to enhance their light and fortnightly ironing schedule, there’s no doubt that this power-house of an iron will be far in excess of their wildest needs and unlikely to confers any benefit at all.

If you can use this ironing behemoth to it’s full capacity then I’d urge you to buy it, otherwise, it’s always going to be far more than you’ll ever need

Bought to replace 12 year old previous model, which was the best iron I’ve ever owned.
New one is a good replacement, with just a couple of niggles.
Electric cable is ridiculously short so end of your ironing board has to be very close to the socket.
Water tank is cheap, quite flimsy plastic and can be difficult to close. I can’t see it lasting 12 years. Previous model had a steel tank with a pressure release knob, rather than a removable tank, which I think is a better design.
Like the clip to attach over the top of the iron so whole unit can be lifted in one go.

I have never used this type of iron before, just a regular steam iron, so was fascinated to see how this performed. To be honest, I do not do a lot of ironing, just a few things before going away on holiday, and sheets/duvet covers for guests who stay, plus the ocassional table cloth. We prefer to generally put up with a few creases in the bedding and change it often, or wear easy jersey no iron fabrics. However, what I did want to try it for was making patchwork, where you have to press every small seam and I am normally running to and from the bathroom to the study every few minutes refilling the steam iron with water. I had not realised that the actual tank gets hot, I had thought the iron would still heat the water and the extra water would just come from the big tank. It was a slight shock at first how much noise the tank made heating up as I normally listern to radio 4 as I am sewing and the sounds were quite loud and made the radio inaudible at times. I did get used to this after a few sessions, but prefer the quietness of the conventional steam iron. The big water storage system is of course the big plus, no running to and fro for water anymore. There are different settings, which took a while to get used to. To have the steam coming automatically (rather than a one off burst) when you apply the iron downwards, there is only a quite heavy steaming. I would have preferred to have a light steam for this, which came automatically when the iron placed downwards on the seams for patchwork. The heavy steam is fine for heavily creased table cloths, for instance, but not for delicate work. Also, this switching between modes, often means you can forget which one you’re in and burn you fingers very quickly (this happened a few times) where you need to manipulate fabric manually for pressing sewn seams. I think I will get used to this, but overall, I would say this type of iron is better for heavy duty ironing of really creased household item, which is does most effectively, frighteningly so infact. For delicate use of pressing as you go in any type of textile work, maybe not so good or controllable in the way we would want it to be; but then probably not designed with this end use in mind.

I hate ironing but this makes life so much easier. it’s lightweight and glides across the fabric. it takes a little getting used to as it’s bulky but it’s worth it. I’m not keen on the power cord, its not too easy to put away so I usually don’t fold it back in as I’m lazy! A retractable one would be so much better, I have this on so many household things now. My only other downside is the price- it’s waaaaay too expensive for the average homeowner!

The Tefal GV9611 GO Pro Express Ultimate Steam Generator Iron is perfect for large families producing large loads of washing. My husband and I are foster carers and including our children we as a family number eight at present. On average I wash three full loads every day (we have an 13kg washing machine) so this amounts to a lot of washing, drying, ironing and putting away.

This Tefal Steam Generator Iron makes the chore of ironing so much easier and quicker … I have fast become a huge fan of this Steam Generator on many levels.

The automatic smart steam function delivers the most effective amount of steam automatically and it’s safe for all types of fabric. Previously to produce steam on my old iron I had to heat the iron on the maximum setting, sort my clothes in order of ironing temperature and then wait for the iron to either cool down or heat up for whichever batch of clothing I was going to iron next. This Steam Generator is so much quicker and I have tested this iron successfully on silk, manmade fibres, cotton and denim all on the automatic steam setting.

The Tefal GV9611 Steam Generator is a sleek looking machine in black, silver grey and light blue. It is also very light to use, the iron itself only weighs 1.2kg. It is is very quick to start. Simply plug in, prepare the ironing board and lay out your first garment and you are ready to go. It really does take only a couple of minutes to heat up.

I was extremely impressed with the large 1.9 litres water tank. When full I have managed to continually iron for just under 2 hours (another time saver).

Amazingly this steam generator boasts 8 bars of pressure, six settings and a steam boost of 650g/min this takes care of all manner of creases … I have even been able to remove some really tough creases in a heavy denim jacket without too much effort.

Another really neat function is the anti drip protect system, this actually successfully prevents garment staining from the steam drips that are often produced by your iron … with this iron it just doesn’t happen.

Manufacturers say that the worst thing you can do to your iron, is to let limescale build up rendering the iron problematic in their steaming abilities. I am pleased to tell you that Tefal has this sorted too with their innovative easy removable scale collector which captures up to ten tines the amount of scale particles.

I can highly recommend this Tefal Steam Generator Iron. Although it is expensive compared to other steam irons, this steam generator iron really is labour and time saving and with a 2 year warranty what have you got to lose.

We’ve previously had a Tefal steam generator, Its now gone to my father in law. The previous model had no temperature setting, which seemed strange at the time. Once you realise that you can go from ironing jeans to a nylon shirt without worry, it’s brilliant.

The new model does not disappoint, it has a bigger reservoir than our previous one and the iron itself is lighter, but still effective. It glides over clothes and can generate a massive amount of steam. If you are using a conventional iron and considering upgrading to a steam generator, do it, you will not regret it.

This is a massive step up on what was already a brilliant device, there is a easy scale removal device (much easier than on older models) I can’t really comment on the limescale tool as we live in a soft water area.

We have been using a Philips steam generating iron for a few years and love how easy these sort of irons make a tedious chore – sadly it is need of a replacement. The Tefal Pro Express Ultimate is just excellent and a worthy substitute.

As you’d expect for the price it is extremely well built, you really are getting a premium product (well, it is just under 500!). Set up is easy no real issues. Really like the size of the reservoir, 2 litres is just massive (we don’t bother to fill it up to the top!)

In use the iron just skates over the surface. Tefal reckon 33% more glide which is an interesting claim (not sure how glide is measured — friction coefficient or something?). It is definitely a lot less hard work than a regular iron and even better than the Philips.

We like the fact steam changes in reaction to the way you iron, it seems to magically know what you are ironing.

Overall we are really pleased with the Tefal Pro Express and can’t recommend it enough. Worth the investment.

I have never used a steam generator iron before, so I had high expectations, and this iron didn’t disappoint. It tackles all types of fabric with ease, and with the correct setting selected, I’ve experienced no sticking. The iron itself is lightweight and easy to use. I prefer to regulate the steam manually, but either way, the steam produced easily removes all creases in seconds – on one garment it immediately removed a crease on the collar that has always been there !

The large water tank is fantastic – no more repeated filling for each ironing session! The automatic cut-off system for when the iron is left unattended is an essential bonus. Whilst I haven’t needed to do this yet, the instructions for cleaning the anti-calc collector and the boiler seem easy to follow and not too time-consuming.

Two extremely small downsides are that the cord is not quite long enough to reach right to the end of the typical UK long ironing board, but a small adjustment to old habits takes care of that and I have also struggled to work out how to store the cords back on the base – but these are only small things and the benefits of thr iron far outweight them.

Having been perfectly happy wiyh my previous iron, I now wouldn’t be without this steam generator and am amazed at the differen e it has made to laundry days! Hands down this is amazing and highly recommended. Andrew

Some steam generators involve faffing around refilling the iron every now and then. Often this involves letting the iron cool down before it’s safe to add water. This Tefal GV9611G0 Pro tries to put a stop to that by having a fairly giant water tank. At nearly 2 litres, that’s a lot of water. As a result, it’s also pretty heavy when full. I weighed it at 4.9kg empty but 6.8kg full (so it really *does* take 1.9l of water). Construction is good, with quality materials and not a whiff of cheapness about this at all.

Heating up is rapid, from cold it’s ready in around 2 minutes. There’s a very long steam tube, 64″, and a quite short mains cable, also about 64″. We noticed the steam cable got surprisingly (but not painfully hot in use), which is not something we’ve experienced with other steam generator irons. There’s a neat locking feature on the top of the iron, which secures the iron in place for storage and transport, and the steam pipe and power lead are stowed around the base of the water tank. There was also a random piece of plastic in the box which looked like it might be some sort of clamp attachment, but it was not mentioned in the instructions and so it remained unused.

There are several settings: Smart, Delicate Normal & Max Boost. Normal works just fine, with Max Boost being useful for very crumpled jeans. We found the Smart setting, which makes the steam generator respond to movement rather than require a trigger pull, did not work as well as it might have done, failing to respond to small movements and being a little laggy in use.

Steam ironing was good, with a very smooth glide by the iron, which is light and easy to manoeuvre. My wife said it doesn’t iron as well as her Philips steam generator, put couldn’t clarify as to what the Philips does any better than this Tefal, so it might be just a matter of personal preference. I noticed a few imperfections on the non-stick finish of the base, but as this was a review sample, that may be down to our sample being a “2nd” as it were. The imperfections didn’t seem to effect the performance of the iron at all, and as I said, it moved very smoothly.

There’s a beautifully simple calcium/scale removal tray, which there’s an automated warning for, though the instructions say to clean twice a year. You just twist and pull to remove, and it’s great. No purging your iron in tray, or using those filters. Tefal has got descaling sorted!

My wife doesn’t much care for it as she’s used to her beloved Philips, but in truth, we’re actually on our 3rd Philips steam generator now. They’re not the most reliable. However Tefal steam generators *are* pretty reliable, and perhaps more importantly, have an excellent steam output which is better than our Philips.

All in all, this is a pretty high-end steam generator, and if you have a lot of ironing to do, this will power through it with ease. However it *is* big, (and a lot of money) so bear that in mind.

A big, smooth-running steam generator iro

So we all have an iron of some sort, quite often one of a steam variety, but although they all generally do what they are meant to do how often do you find that the more capable they get the more complex they get along with all the dangers that entails to your favourite garments? Well here we have an excellent example of technology that has been thought about and implemented perfectly to actually give you more, but without the hassle of having to learn how to fly a space shuttle.

Starting at the beginning with some of the practical issues of steam irons. Firstly limescale, some irons get round this by requiring ionised or distilled water to avoid an internal build up of limescale. Not this Tefal model, instead this has a removeable/cleanable limescale filter built into the water reservoir that prevents the problem occuring and therefore wants just straightforward tap water. This is combined with a 1.9 litre of water capacity meaning you can if you want have a mamoth ironing session without worrying about having to stop and refil the iron so often.

The next thing that has been thought about is the ability to set the iron for different types of material such as ‘delicates’, ‘general’ etc… This is achieved simply by pressing the ‘mode’ button on the top of the iron handle. But here’s the best part this Tefal steam iron also has a ‘SMART’ mode. Using this you don’t need to know what category your piece of clothing falls into as the iron is able to work this out for itself. Another function that is integral to the design are sensors that allow the iron to estimate when and how much steam to use. Don’t worry about pressing a button or trigger and trying to work it out for yourself instead you can simply trust the iron to figure it out for itself. Of course there is a ‘trigger’ on the handle that you can use to over-ride the iron if you feel you know better, but in our experience we’ve found the iron simply works great if you leave it to work it out for you.

As for the ergonomics of the iron itself it is beautifully light and easy to handle, true it is tethered to the base by a ‘steam tube’ but this is not a real issue and the iron works beautifully gliding over your garments with ease. Controls are very simple. To get up and running you fill the water reservoir from your tap, then press the ‘Power’ button on the base unit, this will start up the steam generator which takes a minute or so to get up to working temperature which is indicated by a light flashing on the handle of the iron itself while heating. Once this stops flashing it indicates the iron is ready to go and you simply select your mode from the manual settings such as ‘delicate’ or do the clever thing and select ‘SMART’ mode. Then off you go…

Steam generation is no problem for this Tefal steam iron, it is available in copious quantities if required and generated at high pressure when needed, thus providing exactly what is required for the material you are working with. The iron itself simply glides over the material leaving behind a perfect finish time after time. If you want to see it in operation please refer to the attached video…

So in conclusion if you have a lot of ironing to get through and regardless of whether you enjoy it or not get this iron and make your life easier and simpler for that perfect and reliable outcome. Sure it may be a bit pricey, but anything that makes ironing easier and more reliable is worth it in my opinion 🙂

Wow! This is an amazing steam iron. It is the first professional style iron I have had, so I don’t have anything other than a good quality home iron to compare it to. It’s a fairly hefty thing compared to a normal iron, but still very easy to handle. The instructions are easy to understand, and I like that it has several settings depending on how delicate the material is that you are ironing. It heats up pretty quickly, but I don’t think as quick as my other iron. I love the 1.9l water tank. I’ve done a couple of medium size baskets of ironing, with no need to refill the water. My normal iron would need filling at least 3 times if not more for the same amount of washing to be ironed. The steam is very powerful, and no creases are a match for the iron’s effectiveness. I like the limescale filter function, although this is unlikely to be an issue due to the water where I live doesn’t cause much limescale at all. The iron glide effortlessly over any fabric, and I love the stream never seems to drip, it comes out evenly and doesn’t leave clothes with watermarks like my home iron sometimes does. The only reason I have given 4 and not 5 stars is that it is a little disappointing that for the RRP of nearly 500, I would have expected (as others have commented on), an automated retractable cord mechanism. However, that in itself is only a minor issue, and I would have given 4.5 stars iff I was able to.

A fantastic steam iron. Almost 5 stars but for one minor issue

For a long time now i’ve been using an excellent philips steam generator, so interesting to see how tefal can do when it pulls out the stops.
the answer is very well indeed. This is again the new generation of steam irons that has no temperature control, relying on lower heat but a lot of steam to do the job.
getting it set up is easy enough. the water reservoir pulls out forwards and can be taken to be filled and refilled (instructions might mention this – it took me a few minutes to work out). Then switch on and wait for the blue flashing light on top to change to constant.
there is a button to change to the different steam settings from steam off, to “normal” (i suppose manual might be a better word to differentiate from auto setting), Eco and Auto.
In auto, steam flows more or less whenever you are in contact with material on the ironing board, and in many ways this is the obvious setting to use.
Ironing a pile of shirts was very quick and easy. there’s plenty of steam and wrinkles come out very fast. The only problem ive had is that the settings switch is on the handle just by the front of your hand meaning i switched steam from auto to off inadvertently on occasions. I’d rate this as better than my philips machine
I dont know what kind of longevity this machine has – i hope plenty given the price. But given my previous experience with an expensive Bosch steam generator where the steam plate corroded and was destroyed on 2 machines and a third suddenly died electrically all within a space of 2 years

As a unit, this is rather hefty in size so make sure you have somewhere suitable to store it; whilst it looks decent I wouldn’t want a bulky iron lying around, especially if guests were coming, luckily we had a cabinet where it just about fit inside (phew).

The water tank is removable and is shaped in a way that made it simple to fill up and empty the remaining contents once done; it holds up to 1.9L of water which is A LOT of capacity and only really needed if you have loads of clothes to iron, otherwise just fill as much as you require (the more you use, the easier it is to judge).

Setting the iron up is as easy as plugging it in and pressing the power button, the iron then sorts itself out and does so quite quickly. There are four different modes to choose from which is selected on the iron: ‘Delicate’, ‘Normal’, ‘Max’ and ‘Smart Stream’; the first three should be selected as appropriate whereas the smart stream can detect what setting is best to apply (so it seems).

At first I thought the cable was going to be a hassle, it is rather chunky but it turns out I hadn’t straightened it properly, once that was sorted it was plain sailing. The iron is extremely lightweight and so easy to handle, the manoeuvrability was great and it really did make ironing pleasant. I tried a variety of garments that required either the delicate or normal setting and the results were better than any other iron I had used; my sibling ironed their cardigan and stated it has never looked so well ironed. The smart steam setting was interesting to use, it would only steam when on the garment and instantly stopped when we held it upright.

Overall, this is an AMAZING product but of course it does come at a cost. I think this would be well worth the money for those who do a lot of ironing and typically feel like it’s a chore; get your hands on this and it will make it a bit easier with much better results.

I am pleased with the product so far. It is easy to use, simple to handle, lightweight and pretty design. It is very powerful, works very well for me so far. It works well for a long period of time, but I have to say I do not use it none stop, I tend to work my way through one by one, and in between will hang clothes, tidy and do other things, so I haven’t experienced any power lose or leakage at all.
It is a piece of equipment for home use only, not for travelling for sure, too heavy and big for that.

For the price, this should be the Rolls Royce of steam generating irons. I’ve used other less expensive irons of this type and I wasn’t sure how this one could justify the price tag. I’ve tried it on a range of different fabrics in the last couple of weeks, including heavily creased cotton velour, linen, cotton and heavy denim. It tackled each and every job with ease and despite my reservations, that bit of extra pressure, slightly larger tank and slightly higher power all add up to improved performance.

I’m a recent convert to this type of iron; I’ve spent a lifetime with the standard type and I hate ironing. Although there’s a bit of novelty factor, this certainly makes ironing a more pleasurable experience. You just stick water in the reservoir, switch it on and it’s ready to use in literally less than a couple of minutes. The speed is remarkable and this model takes ironing to a different level. The controls are easy to use and suitable for any ironing task. Because the steam is generated in the large base unit, there’s no need to refill as frequently as a conventional iron. I’ve had no problems with drips and wet patches with this iron.

As a unit, it’s much bigger and more bulky than a standard iron, but the actual iron is light and slick. I found the lead plenty long enough and it’s particularly easy to use to iron things like curtains in situ. I washed them, dried them put them up then used the steam generator to remove e dry crease quickly and easily. To my amazement, they just seemed to drop out as the iron passed nearby! Magic. Overall, I’m truly impressed. It costs more but it’s packed with features and it makes the job of ironing easier and more pleasurable so it’s worth it. I’m also reassured by the Tefal promise of back up service and parts. From experience, they’re a reliable brand that delivers quality products and good customer support.

At the price of this iron I half expected it do my ironing for me! But this was not to be, and I still was the designated ironer. My experience with this iron was positive and it was a breeze getting thru the laundry basket .. but the question would be is it worth it at this cost? This is my first time using this type of iron so I can’t compare it to any previous similar models, but besides the size of it and not having any storage space for it, because it’s bulky and rather heavy, my overall ironing experience was great.

It is certainly a high pressure and powerful iron, it removes creases easily and within seconds as you can see by my video. I didn’t think it was particularly quiet but that wasn’t a big deal for me. The iron handheld is really light and glides so smoothly over clothes. It shuts itself off if you forget to turn it off.

Initially, I couldn’t figure out how to fill the water but finally, after a bit of fiddling, it is simply removed by pulling it out back and then slotting it back in — this is filled up to the max line or less depending on how much you’re ironing.
The settings on the handheld iron are in an easy to reach spot on the top of the handle and I switched between them to test out their differences but have to admit I left it on custom for the remainder of my ironing because the iron then automatically jets out steam and it was perfect for what I was ironing and works with a smart steam function which detects movement of the iron. The iron locks into place and is secure and can then be carried as one to store away. The hose is very thick and durable but not very flexible and tends to get in the way and I had to keep readjusting to move it out the way. It comes with instructions that are easy to follow.

So, do I think it’s worth the cost? If unlike me, you have a LOT of ironing, use it regularly and iron everything, this iron is going to cut your workload in half. It is certainly the best iron I have ever used but for my needs it is pricey.

So far so good as far as actually ironing goes, but I do find the cord somewhat on the short side. The iron itself is a good quality product which looks expensive, yet it is quite lightweight, which make me wonder how durable it will be. Time will tell. The base holds a lot of water but as a consequence, it is a little cumbersome and takes up quite a lot of space on the board. We’ve tried it on a range of clothing, with light creasing and heavy creasing and so far it has worked perfectly

Lovely steam iron that holds 1.9 litres of water for a long uninterrupted ironing experience.

The iron is able to tackle most types of fabrics with ease and the various levels of steam generation you get is quite impressive.

I would have given 5 stars had the cord been longer or even better cordless as the cord in my opinion is too short.

I suffer from arthritis in my hands and didn’t find the iron itself too heavy to handle. In fact it felt quite comfortable in my hands.

I would recommend starting with items that don’t require a lot of steam and working your way up to the crinkly fabrics then you see the superiority of the steam generation of this iron as well as the ease that you can get through your ironing.

I would recommend using distilled water or filtered water to ensure the longevity of the product. I have in the past damaged many of my irons using plain tap water. I live in a very hard water area and using tap water in my area is a good way to shorten the life of the iron. There is a detachable water reservoir which makes it easier to fill with water.

All in all this Iron is a monster for getting through the ironing and for someone like me who hates ironing it was a joy to use.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWorking fine but was left worried when the box arrived opened and the box had no wrapping to disguise it’s contents. Who had been looking in it? Breathed a sigh of relief when all parts were in the box and it turned on and worked. Only 4 stars for the packaging and it’s cheap quality plastic water chamber. My 3rd steam generator iron and most expensive but you would never guess. Must be an expensive water boiler as the plastic materials it’s formed from are far from the sturdiest. Will see how it lasts. Uses tap water so let’s see. Mist last a year with my private supply (no limescale but high iron content).

I wasn’t so sure I had made the right choice when I first used the iron but after a day tackling endless loads of laundry on a warm breezy day I managed to keep up, get through it and my backlog and only fill it up a couple of times vs. my old standard iron that needed a refill after every shirt. It’s wonderful. The extra boost mode and even Max makes the iron take off from the board. Only downside isn’t the iron per se but the board and condensation build up that drips onto some items the longer you iro

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSo I have struggled to find a decent iron for years… I have now found it. This iron is just fantastic. Makes the whole process of ironing more enjoyable and easier. The base is a big old lump and does take up quite a bit of room on the board, but it’s worth it. Holds so much water there is no running back and forth to fill it up again. The iron itself is so light it feels like it will be really rubbish, but the steam process is just great and will get rid of the most stubborn creases. The steam cord does get very hot so just need to be careful it doesn’t rest on your skin. I feel like my ironing pile will decrease dramatically now I have this iron to use.. it was a joy!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI bought this iron to replace a similar Tefal steam generator that I have had for 6 years and has recently failed. This iron is attractive, easy to use and works well. The range of steam generation is very good and the ability to work on all types of fabric ‘straight from the ironing basket’ is impressive. The only drawback I have is that the power cord storage (which just folds into the base, so long as you get the folds right) is not as effective as on my previous model (which had a retractable power cord).

It would be worth 5 stars, if not so very very expensive, however, there is a law of diminishing returns with all things, and here’s no exception. So yes, it is noticably better than any other iron I’ve used, including some that push close(ish) on price. In particular, it belts out steam, even in lower power modes, and makes light work of even heavy linens. Yes, it glides nicely. Yes, it has a much smarter water tank than other steam generators, that removes to fill from the tap, rather than needing to be fillled by jug. Yes, it has a decent finish, albeit the slightly 1990s-Citroen-interior graphics are a matter of taste, and finally, yes, it has a clever safety latch system that is somehow more robust than others, and holds the ion on the base reassuringly well in transit. But, despite all these minor superiorities, and the acclaim of those who use it, it is just so so very expensive that it is too much of a challenge to give 5 stars. I’d expect something clad in stainless steel, a work of laundry art, with a headlight, and tea-making functionality, for this money. If you have spare money, and a cupboard to hide the thing in (or like a touch of retro plastic in your house) then go for it, but otherwise, I think you can find almost as much ironing satisfaction for much less outlay.

Getting the Tefal PV9580 out of the box is a simple task; and I love that the water tank is removable – something my Philips steam generator doesn’t have – and something I have always questioned as I decant water into it. The Tefal reservoir is also huge; you could likely take care of a navy ship’s laundry on a single tank.

Before you start to use it you need to beware; there was a warning in a number of languages on a slip of paper in the box of my Tefal GV9580 that it will smell when you first start to use it. They weren’t kidding. For at least the first 10 minutes (including two restarts from cold) of use there was a strong plastic odour coming from the iron. At the same time as I was frustrated by the odour; I was impressed by the steam which looked to outrun my existing Philips steam generator iron. Turning it on and off is nice and simple thanks to a control panel at the rear of the unit. Transporting it is easy thanks to the sturdy clip that restrains the handle – and that you can remove the water tank.

In use the iron has a nice non stick plate; and the handle itself is light and easy to move around. The steam nozzles are reasonably distributed; though I wished for some closer to the tip for dealing with shirt buttons. The steam that does come out is powerful; and it is capable of outputting at full power for a long time. It’s hard to rate powerful the steam is – it can deflect a jacket on a hanger. If you restrain the jacket you can see the steam coming out of the other side. More steam means quicker ironing and less fussing about the materials you are ironing – no worrying about delicate settings or silk settings – its turn on and go. I put it to its test packing before going on holiday. It zipped through my cotton polo shirts in a few minutes and the creases were still gone when I unpacked.

I wasn’t impressed by the plastic smell; but that is a few minutes in the start of a long relationship.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThis is the ultimate Ironing Machine, the most Powerful Steamer I have ever used. I have used smaller steam irons that can sort out the toughest creases, set at the highest temperature. But because they are not powerful steam Generators, they do the job mostly by heating the garment and so much by using steam thereby slowly damaging clothes.

I have also used a number of large Steam Generators which remove creases by steam and not ‘raw’ heat. These are fantastic at removing creases but struggle with badly-creased clothes. This Tefal Steam Generator just doesn’t care! It belches so much steam that even on normal mode and using the steam ‘turbo button’, it just shreds stubborn creases effortlessly. Yet, it has the max mode which you would apply should any creases refuse to be flattened. The is a Mode button for setting the iron to Eco, Delicate, Normal and Max. Under the Handle is the conveniently positioned ‘Steam Turbo’ Trigger. It will immediately detect when its water tank runs and it is easy to refill as the tank is removable.

This Steam Generator doesn’t come cheap, it is expensive but it is also an exceptional performer. Probably overkill for small Ironing jobs but if you have large piles of clothes, this gets the job done in a much shorter time.

I considered giving this four stars – not because it isn’t excellent, but more because at this price you’d expect it to be perfect. So, the non-perfections are:
    – the soleplate doesn’t glide as easily as some other irons I have owned. It’s fine, just not number 1.
    – the cable from the handset to the main unit is kinked (I assume all are like this), which made it a little awkward to use for the first couple of hours. It seems to have resolved over time
    – initially, it was a little stinky. That resolved after about the first hoir’s Use, and I guess was related to residuals fromthe manufacturing process that needed to be driven off.

All of that said, it is still excellent – probably the best I have ever tried / owned, and I think I’ve probably tried close to ten of the power steam type irons.

    In no particular order:
    – It is reasonably compact for its power
    – this means it is almost tardis-like, as it has a 1.9l water capacity, capared to 1.8l for my previous iron which has a larger footprint
    – they don’t seem to advertise this, but the steaming function is pretty quiet. As quiet overall as another brand which markets itself as being exceptionally quiet. Both are noisy-ish when refilling the water-tank.
    – 8 bar pressure easily powers through wrinkles – notably better than other power-steam irons I used, even ones that are reasonably close at 7,5 bar
    – one setting for all ironing
    – detachable water reservoir, for ease of re-filling
    – it has a burn/ overheat function so that you can set it down on the ironing board rather than back in its cradle while ironing
    – overall excellent performance

Tefal GV9580 Pro Express Ultimate High-Pressure Steam Generator, 2600 W, Blue is one of the best irons I have had the pleasure of using for the one main reason, it glides through my laundry in super quick time. I love the fact it has a large canister for water, therefore, I do not have to interrupt my ironing to refill it with water every fifteen minutes which for me is a major bonus.
The actual iron is very comfortable to hold and the fact it glides over my laundry, and I mean all my laundry does not matter what the material is that I am ironing and that includes the heaviest of denim and heavy curtains.
I love how the base is designed as when I place it on the base between strokes of the iron and at no time does it even wobble which makes me consider it a safer alternative to other irons I have owned in the past. The actual attachment which directs the steam from the main body to the iron allows me to iron comfortably, and the most important bonus is that the length allows me to iron the full length of the long ironing board which I own. My last steam generator iron meant I would have to move the board to suit the length of cable or tubing which directed the steam from the steam generator body to the actual iron.
Another bonus is the fact it has a boost button which I found to be very useful when ironing heavy materials as it aided me in ironing making a once dreaded chore to a one I now find the speed and ease the Tefal GV9580 Pro Express Ultimate High-Pressure Steam Generator, 2600 W, Blue provides me with makes it one chore I no longer dread but actually enjoy! which is a major miracle. I say this as the iron glides through wrinkles with speed and pure quality in removing every crease makes it a more relaxing experience.
There is a button or switch which is placed on the main handle which allows you to change the heat of the iron to whatever suits the material, I mostly stayed in “Normal” and found this worked with most of the material. You can change it to “Max” or “Delicate” whatever suits your own needs or requirements.
I love this iron and would happily give it ten stars if I could, it really is that good! A considered purchase which I would recommend to anyone who likes myself must iron laundry daily or even for those who want to iron as quickly as possible but still want to look good with perfectly pressed clothes.
Happy to recommend this super ironing machine, a first-class model which has pure power throughout.

This is a really good iron. I give it 4 stars because of two factors. I find when cords are not retractable, particularly irons, it becomes a nuisance and secondly I have grown used to one temperature for all and so love it. However this iron is very easy to use.Simply fill the detachable tank which fits under tap easily, then with on. There are 3 modes delicate, normal and max. It seems to start on normal so if you want delicate press the mode button quickly. I find my ironing load consists of a few delicate but mainly normal. As most of my clothing are blends I really find normal more than adequate. I find the iron really light and easy running. The controls were easy to reach on handle of iron. I did try the boost for the purpose of the review and found it really powerful but to be honest normal gave a really adequate supply of steam. There is the usual anticalc button. The hose fits into groove on bottom of iron. When being stored it will fit into normal single kitchen unit. As it is expensive whether it is value for money is really up to individual but I do like the iron very much and find it easy to use and very effective.

Brilliant steam iron, absolutely superb power in it and makes light of any fabric you use it with.

My little 2bed house doesn’t have the room to do it justice really. It needs a grand kitchen and lots of space for hanging so you can blast through things you don’t wash as often, because of the hassle of ironing them – things like curtains!

I’ve had a go on a philips version and a close friend uses her Philips steam unit iron regularly, I do find it slightly easier to manover but I imagine that will come with use.

Given that it’s not quite on a par with the Phillips (can’t remember the model number but its a gold version and has a detachable steamer too. Added with the huge expense of this unit means I’m not comfortable giving it five stars. I’d give 4.5 but as that isn’t possible it has to be 4.

I’d give this ten stars if I could, it simply blasted through my ironing quickly and cut it down by over half. Yes, it’s a bit heavy (I was stunned at the weight if the huge box when it arrived), I needed to bring a table over to the ironing board as the metal iron stand on my board couldn’t handle the strain and buckled a bit, but not a big issue (it’s a cheap board). Love that I didn’t need to keep stopping to refill.

This really beasted through my heavy curtains and duvet covers (even folded) and made it so much more efficiently time saving. The continuous steam and easy glide of the plates makes this feel almost as if it is floating above the fabric rather than pressing on it. I didn’t seem to need to go over many spots more than once (only on one particularly thick pair of trousers that never iron well).

The iron itself is quite light and pleasant to hold – it reminded me of the feel of the industrial grade irons I used at a steam cleaning factory in my late teens.

Very easy to operate and fill, instructions are straight forward. This is a beast of a machine that you will adore if you have a lot of laundry to get through and want to cut on time. Made ironing a joy for once.

A beast of a steam iron, although the iron itself is light and easy to use.

    Gives very impressive results.

Ideal for families with large laundry jobs.

Cable management is fairly average, adequate but not ideal.

Not quite as easy to use as the Philip’s equivalent.
