I’ve used a steam generator for nearly 20+ years and my good old trusty tefal finally packed up just over a year ago after 19 years. I spent a fair bit on a Russel Hobbs and at first it was brilliant, but over time just didn’t do the job.
This Tefal was recommended to me, and I decided to purchase it. I iron for 5 of us, so quite alot, especially work shirts, and uniforms. My average pile would take around 2-3 hours, but with this it has cut the time down. I’m not having to worry about filling it back up half way through and it has a boost steam function aswell. Its definitely worth every penny, and I hope it last as long as my other one did. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for one, maybe someone who does ironing for a living

Bought it on the recommendation of Which Magazine. Delighted with it, the only draw back is that fact that you have to lift the iron back on top of the tank when you want to move a shirt around etc., without resting it on the ironing board and causing a scorch mark. I have solved this by buying, on Amazon an iron shaped flat mat for this purpose, so now all is well.

Been using for a few weeks now and does the job well. Looked for one with good reviews which this has and it’s done just the trick. Water tank is a lot bigger than I last had so seems to last alot longer than before.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a brilliant steam generator iron: lightweight, super quiet, modern looking and – what matters the most – creases in even dry cotton trousers simply fall away.

We were one of the first to move to a steam generator very many years ago when we bought an early Philips model from John Lewis, and since then have owned – and tested for Amazon – both Philips and Tefal models. We’ve come to prefer the Tefal brand partly because it’s made in France in their Rumilly factory but also, because the iron gives you the chance to boost the sole plate temperature to allow for different fabrics. This differs from Philips models which, excellent as they are, rely entirely on steam output. It means that even when we accidentally over-dry our cottons, the Tefal still does its magic. It’s simply a first-class machine, full stop.

It’s also worth telling that, even when the long Tefal guarantee runs out, their service centres charge just 65.00 inc P&P for a full recondition and service. I can’t fault this company.

These steam generator irons are now heating up faster than ever, literally a minute and you’re ready to go. The steam power is incredible and using a basic iron after one of these is a huge no go… The Anticalc filtration system is good too, best to remember to drain this once a week in order for it to be effective, especially if you live in a hard water area like myself.

The steam is very powerful and being able to adjust the iron heat is very precise too. A superb iron that was a massive upgrade to the previous generator version I previously had. Iron technology does move on and this is testament to that. Does an amazing job on bedding and breezes through a few stacks of it in minutes.

If you have not used a steam generator iron before I can highly recommend it for ease of use, speed of ironing and safety for your clothes. The idea behind these devices without temperature control is that the steam does all of the work whilst the sole plate remains at a constant temperature. This means that you can go from ironing linen to synthetics without any adjustment or worry that anything will get scorched. We have been using another brand for years and would never go back.

This unit has a large base which incorporates the water tank which is large enough for a full load of ironing. The iron itself clips to the tank when not in use and has a thick cord for power and the steam. The iron is light and easy to control, especially when paired with the Tefal non stick soleplate. Once you get used to the thicker cord it is so much easier on the wrists than using a heavier iron. There are some buttons on the rear for power, mode and anti-calc. The three modes are normal, eco and one for vertical steam so you can get rid of the creases in curtains or other items which will not fit on the board. The final feature is an easy anti-calc collector which you just empty and rinse when the indicator flashes.

The whole things works really well. It is a bit more noisy than a conventional steam iron as the water is pumped rather than gravity fed, and the unit is quite large and heavy so it is harder to store than a conventional iron. But despite these slight drawbacks this makes the whole process of ironing much much faster and a lot safer so in my mind is well worth it.

First of all, If you have an ironing board for the small normal iron, you will need to buy a giant ironing board. The size of this steam iron is perfect for my medium size ironing board.

I am delighted working with this iron; It does its job correctly.
It is high-quality iron; I like the shape and colour combination looks very posh iron. It has a comfortable grip over the handle and glides over clothes very smooth, also has good performance on wrinkles. The scale collecter in the back of the iron is comfortable to remove and clean too.

Iron is straightforward to set up; also, it is easy to fill the large water tank. The water tank size is 1.8L, so don’t need to worry about keeping refilling the water. The iron is very quick to heat up and gives me enough steam for my ironing, ideal for a large ironing pile to get through.

Overall, this is good quality iron; I don’t have any issue with it so far. Performance is excellent, definitely worth extra cost. I recommend this product.

I hope this review is helpful for you to make a purchasing decision.

I am just loving Tefal’s steam generators. Again, I am really impressed with this one, even though I already own an SV6115, but that one was ltr than that, & just got that one to maneuver the steam ironing.
I am getting a continuous steam with good pressure, which is more than enough to iron fabric, & bedsheets, along with some other curtains. At first, I thought it was going to burn, but it literally didn’t happen to me & I hope this for you also.
The sessions are comparatively short, which saves you a lot of time as compared to the traditional or replica stuff. The processing is also optimally faster than those, and this also gives perfect or more than enough results for this price.
Though it is a bit heavier as compared, in the end, they are worth it. Still, it is going fine, so I can’t judge its build or durability. Another good job by Tefal. Thanks!

I’ve had steam generator irons for about 20 years but I can only ever afford the cheapest ones. They’re adequate of course because they’re still much better than a bog standard iron but not as great as this one.

This one has so much steam generated you could probably get to the moon and back. I love the express setting so you don’t even need to do settings. Just iron the whole basket without worrying because the iron does it all for you.
The limescale collector is a bonus there’s no more shaking irons to get it out.
The water container is huge. The angle of the iron sitting on the base is so much better than my last one it seems to follow the natural curve of my wrist.

The only downsides are that you need an ironing board with a shelf underneath specially for a steam generator. The other thing is the actual iron is much heavier than my old one and too heavy for me. You need a heavy iron to get the stubborn creases out but I’d find this too much hard work if I was ironing a lot of items.

This steam generator literally gets out nearly every crease with ease. If you push it across the fabric without lifting it too often it doesn’t weigh too heavy on your arms. However this is a top class iron with advanced features so I’m not put off by the weight of the iron. I’d recommend this 100% for crease removal, quality and features I’m really impressed.

    The king of irons

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’m pretty happy with this iron, my last was a simple iron, cheap with hardly any storage for the water. Which was no good for our large household.
I prefer simple and actually this iron was very easy to use surprisingly! Although I don’t like ironing much, this was a joy to use.
Heat up took about 2 minutes (felt less to me) the lights will flash until fully heated and stop, letting you know it’s ready to use.
You have three options, eco, normal or vertical steaming. Eco or normals perfectly fine for normal ironing while the vertical steaming acts just like a steamer except with a larger tank! I have to admit, I love the feature and it’s perfect for quick usage.

So far Iv had no problems while ironing, I believe from reading the instructions that you can leave the iron flat on the ironing board, so I tried that and sure enough there were no burns.
All you do is press the handheld irons button (as much as you feel necessary for the wrinkles at hand) and it’ll produce steaming hot steam!

One thing that always put me off irons is all the different settings, so this is an absolute joy! My kind of iron, it defeats the creases and it doesn’t give me a headache!

Only downside, I wish the wires were longer as I found them to be quite short.

So simple, no burns and no headache over tons of settings.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGood things.
Plenty of steam, if you press the mode button for 2 seconds the blue light turns white an you get extra steam for jeans etc, and if you press the trigger three times quickly you get a shot of even more steam.useful if you have overdried something and it ends up heavily creased.
Nice soleplate, glides quite well and eats up creases.
You can steam delicate fabrics with no worries about them scorching.
Big water container, a full container will last ages and it’s easy to empty too.
Easy to clean filter and calc. cleaning function.
Quicker ironing and a nice finish (see my before and after pics)
Repairable for 10 years, so you know you’ll be able to keep it for that length of time if you wish.

    Not so good
It isn’t that quiet, the steam coming out of the iron is quiet but the pump isn’t that quiet. I personally don’t have a problem with the noise, I wouldn’t have noticed if the description hadn’t mentioned it.
The trigger must be pressed all the time for the steam to come out, I have arthritis, only mild, but would have preferred to be able to lock the steam to the on position when the iron is down to save my finger. Having said that I ironed for over an hour last night to test it properly and my hand and finger are fine.
The instructions are a bit strange in places for example the flush accessory is included but doesn’t store underneath the appliance as the instructions imply and the instructions on where to rest the iron during use suggest on its heel or on the base but the pictures shows cross over the on it’s heel picture. You can’t rest it on its heel anyway as the filter is in the way so I have been resting it on the base.
I’m not sure I’m storing the power cord and the steam cord correctly, the instructions are not very clear, I just looped them into the sides at the bottom of the base. it’ll do.

To summerise. This iron does the job, powerful customisable steam and great for All ironable fabrics, it’s easy to use but you have to keep you finger on the trigger for the steam. the instructions seem to be for more than one version of this iron so can be a little confusing.
I am giving it four stars because although it works perfectly, for the price you pay, I think there should be a continuous steam function and better attention to the instructions.

    Plenty of steam, eats creases.

I have a small steamer which I use for most clothes that I can put on a hanger, or steam in situ such as curtains; but this is something else.
Tefal are renown for quality products and this is amazing.
It is very easy to set up and use and the steam function means clothes are wrinkle free without the possibility of burning
The large 1.8 litre tank means no trips to and from the tap! And the iron is surprisingly light
The sole plate is ultra smooth, glazed ceramic and just glides over the item for ironing and almost makes ironing a pleasure!
The iron locks in place on the tank for easy manoeuvring
An ideal iron for a large family or someone who takes in ironing.
Its worth mentioning that the iron also works really well on vertical items such as curtains with no loss of steam
A steamer is also great for ironing a duvet cover while its on the bed! NO struggling on the ironing board.

It is a lot of money for an iron but this is so much more, this is an iron and a steamer and the TEFAL brand makes this a quality item.

    Good value and Recommended

This to me seems to be the most quietest of irons steam ones I’ve used. I like the fact that for carrying it to kitchen from washroom that it feels secure with it having a lock facility on it so the iron can’t fall off the base. This to me is a big issue as one I had previously didn’t have that function.
It takes a lot of water in one go so no filling up every few items or so a huge load of ironing can be done and still water left in it.
The other best thing is no burning of items whilst being ironed anyone can use it and not use the excuse of I might damage something. This makes it undoable. So no getting out of ironing anything now with this item even delicates. Easy simple and a doddle to use the handle is slightly differently shaped an almost half handle rather than a full one but it’s comfy and that’s the main thing when using it. Plenty of cord for reaching for socket for when I’m using it and yes even the blue colouring of it nice.
What’s not to like? The price a huge cost, it does come with a warranty of a long time yes but even so still a lot of money for something that you don’t like doing. I think that steam generator irons are all a much of a muchness apart from this one being quieter and to me this is it’s main major selling point the quietness of it.

We are in the presence of an iron that is not only powerful, but also manageable and light.
The glazed ceramic treatment contributes to the excellent sliding of the plate, which gives an extra edge to the iron.
To put it away a few simple operations are necessary: once the power cable and the steam hose of the special compartments have been collected, all that remains is to lock the iron in place.
It should be emphasized that the locking system on the boiler allows the iron to be transported easily and safely.
All this contributes to giving life to a product that is perfect for the needs of large families who have many items to iron.
The performances are quite high, the steam jet is continuous and very full-bodied.
Warm-up times are extremely short, reaching around two minutes.
The plate is enamelled, favoring maximum smoothness and great resistance to scratches.
Modern in shape, extremely pleasing to the eye.
Its inclination makes the grip of the iron ergonomic.
Thanks to the considerable power it is therefore able to attack even the most difficult folds and creases, with good results.
Equipped with an anti-limescale system capable of increasing the lifespan of the iron by removing limescale from the boiler and rinsing the dipstick under water in a few seconds; all without the use of filters to change.
Also from the point of view of energy saving it seems able to ensure very high standards.

I have used a steam generator iron before so knew what to expect from this. Easy to unpack and get ready to use. One minor point to note is that the electrical cord is a little on the short side (at least compared to the other model I have used). My machine on first use immediately insisted on being de calced. Seemed odd to me but I knew that at some point I would have to do this so I thought I might as well learn the technique straight away. Fairly straightforward process as set out in the small instruction manual.

And so on to ironing. The sole plate is very smooth and it glided effortlessly over the clothes I was ironing. The point with steam generator irons is that they use steam not the direct heat of the sole plate. This got the steam up and running in the advertised two minutes. I found it worked very effectively. My only minor gripe about the process was that the steam generation was quite noisy. That meant listening to the radio was a problem. Between bursts of generating steam the radio was loud enough, but got lost when steam generation was happening.

I suppose the other point to make is that it is pretty expensive. At the time of this review it was just under 300. I think on the basis of its performance I am happy to give it five stars, but the price might be off putting.
