Really good BBQ and only reason I’ve not given it 5 stars is because I’m nitpicking. For the price I expect it to be perfect and the one I got has a slight warp in it somewhere in the top/the lid hinges which means the lid doesn’t sit flush and the front left hand side sits up about a centimetre.
Didn’t seem to affect temps too much but again for the price I don’t expect this, the coal tray has also warped quite considerably after the first use but suspect that when it has hot coals back on it, it should straighten itself out again so should be fine for use but will update again if not the case.
Over all, I think it’s a really good BBQ. Apart from the above the only other thing I would say is the instructions could be better and they mislabelled all the bolts etc so that wasn’t great but but of common sense and patience got me through it.
Would recommend.
*edit* just noticed there is one of the black caps missing from one of the legs, not sure how I missed it. Had to swap them about and take them off the ends of the folding shelf to make it look better. Cosmetic issue and doesn’t affect function but again, for the price I would expect better.
I bought this 4 years ago and was really excited to get grilling. The coal height adjuster was just what i was looking for and i have grilled and roasted many meals on this from joints to chickems and burgers its been pretty bulletproof and continues to serve its purpose. Not as flash as the Kamados but still able to smoke your food nicely and control heat and for a 10th the cost. Great starter grill.
Read horror stories about damage and difficulty in assembling. NOTHING to worry about, took me and a friend 40 minutes, including getting legs wrong way round. Well designed and easy assembly. Looking forward to firing it up.
Looks great and seems that will last 🙂
Even we had some issues, I give 5 stars.
Screws and small stuff were packed separately and named which was easy when assembling.Instructions manual was not so detailed and large enough to see it!Also the assembling video could be better!
One of the two of the plastic legs of the grill was loose ,so either you had to glue it,or put only the bottom square parts.
However, generally the grill seems nice and steady, cover is waterproof and we are-so far,so good- satisfied with our purchase
If you haven’t brought this, why not ?! Arrived a day earlier than stated, bonus ! Me being me took it upon myself to rip the box open and get started before my other half came home to help. Much to my amazement it was super easy to put together and I had it together and up before he got home with the help of a polystyrene crushing 8yr old and two bolt nicking and screw hiding dauchshunds.
Was easy enough to assemble. Looks nice and big, cant wait to use i
It’s better than I hoped it would be looks great. Straight forward to build
Bit fiddly to assemble instructions not great that said took me just under 2 hours goes together well and pretty solid
Not 30 mins to set up more like 2 hr sturdy not a cheaply made nice weight to this just carnt wait for summe
Bought this for my sons birthday! He loves it, great quality and good value for money
BBQ is nice and feels sturdy. Easy to use and move around etc. Only complaint i would have is around 6 or 7 pieces arrived bent or damaged. We needed it for that day so couldn’t return it. We had to force it or bend back in place. Seems ok, the coal tray is wonky however.
Have not had the chance to fire it up yet.
I had the previous model. The only difference appears to be the tray access to moving around the coal. Otherwise, the usual great design and I look forward to using it when the weather warms up!
Arrived quickly. Easy to assemble if you follow the instructions.
For this price it’s absolutely brilliant- you can’t get anything better. I like a thermometer thing and you can remove the grills easily and change to your preferable cooking method
BBQ was straightforward to assemble although initially had an issue fitting the top griddle but found we had it upside down.. thermometer was really useful. Found that we could keep cooked items warm while still cooking others.
Check the parts when unwrapping as one part was bent however we sorted this ourselves without issue.
As in the title, the bbq is decent, easy to assemble, and great at cooking all sorts of food.
It would be five stars if the removable ring was lockable (which would make cleaning less frustrating) and the overall sturdiness better (as it seems a little flimsy and the screws and bolts need tightening after cooking).
Overall it’s a great little bbq that with a little bit of TLC will serve well for a few years.
It looks good and is quite sturdy. Putting it together is bit difficult as the instructions are bot clear. I’ve done my share of flat pack furniture and these instructions are far from IKEA standards..
It came with little dent. Not much of an issue but could do without.
The plastic leg stand is rubbish it’s not staying in its place. I’ll have to glue it.
Haven’t used it yet, so can’t comment about the performance. I shall update the review in few weeks.
I bought this BBQ with low expectations after reading some negative reviews, clearly if parts are missing or damaged it is frustrating and not acceptable but I did not experience any of these negatives. It took me 1.5 hours to check all parts were present, read the instructions fully and assemble with relative ease. I had to tighten pre assembled screws and had a problem with the main handle spring button not clipping into place, but all I had to do was remove the plastic cap on the leg and enlarge a hole for the button to fully engage.
I haven’t used it yet and one concern was seeing pictures of the paint peeling off, but in the instructions it says before using to condition the BBQ for 1-2 hours at a temperature between 100 and 200 Deg c and not to let the temperature exceed 260 Deg c during this process, so that is what I have done. Also it does state to check tighten bolts regularly, so I will be doing this before using each time until I have faith in the product, but it certainly seems sturdy to me.
I have used this BBQ four times now and had no problems with the paint peeling or falling apart. So for me this BBQ exceeded my expectations and is good value for the money.
Absolutely love this Barbecue.
Not going to lie though – it did suffer in transit – it’s almost inevitable and I had to make use of a pliers to straighten some edges and parts that had suffered either during packaging or during transit.
But these were not that bad and were handled with ease within a few minutes. Pay attention to the assembly instructions and make sure that you clip together and tighten everything properly and you will end up with a very sturdy little Barbie.
PROS:
The ability to raise and lower the charcoal to your food being grilled is superb!
The ability to add more coals through the front access hatch when slow cooking and/or general grilling is a godsend.
The enammelled grill is easy to clean after a 20 minute soak in hot soapy water with a standard washing sponge.
The removeable ash tray – once again excellent
CONS:
Acquiring any of the accessories for the central grill plate will be a challenge as it is a bespoke size.
A superb well thought out and designed barbecue that cannot be beaten at this price bracket.
I was a bit nervous about buying this given some of the reviews, but I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. It was very easy to put together – less than an hour (but more than half an hour). I had a bolt left over which worried me, but when the wheel fell off I realise what it was! There were no broken parts or any issues.
I have used the BBQ twice now – love the fact that the base winds up so you can reduce/increase the heat, and you can see the temperature from the outside. The side shelf easily collapses to allow the cover to fit nicely and keeps it very compact and tidy.
It doesn’t feel the sturdiest BBQ ever, but for the price point and the ease of assembly and performance, very good value.
I’m yet to use the BBQ so will update once I have but I need to say what a joy to assemble this BBQ was! Instructions are simple and clear. Almost all parts are pushfit or have captive fixings so you don’t get a huge pile of screws that you need to sort, the small amount of additional fixings required are provided in a clearly labelled pack. The BBQ goes together quickly and simply and looks incredibly smart when constructed. It’s clear that a huge amount of time and thought has gone into the design and it really shows. I can’t wait for the sun to shine again to test it out
*edit* I have now had the chance to test the bbq out and I continue to be impressed, the cooking area is huge and the adjustable height platform for the charcoal means you get to have the perfect amount of heat the whole way through. I also found it surprisingly easy to clean which I wasn’t expecting. Overjoyed with this purchase
This is a very attractive looking bbq and one of the reasons that I chose it over other models. Overall I do like the bbq, but there are a few issues that other reviewers have identified, that have also transpired with my experience.
The bbq had a few damaged parts when I received it, but not enough to want to send it back to the manufacturer. One of the vent handles was broken, one of the metal vents was slightly bent and there was the odd dent and chip in various parts.
The assembling took me a couple of hours, although I didn’t rush it. So no harm done there. I did get English instructions, which was good, although the pictures were very small for some of the intricate assembling, which was not so good. As with a couple of reviewers, the charcoal grate was angling slightly, but after twiddling with some of the nuts and bolts of the (pre-fixed) arms, I managed to get it pretty level.
I put the bbq on to pre-fire, which showed just what a beast it is! It held together fine, although if there’s even a slight slant on the ground below, the lid doesn’t shut evenly.
When I went to use it properly for the first time, all was going well until I wheeled the bbq into the garden to avoid the smoke from the charcoals getting into the house (I was using a chimney). Then all of a sudden the pit started to collapse as the leg became loose. Thankfully I managed to reattach the leg and screw it back tightly. If that had happened when the coals were actually in the pit, it could have been seriously dangerous!
After that, the cooking went well. The pit is huge, so don’t underestimate the amount of charcoal you’ll need to fill it all, which is great for a large gathering. The grid in grid grill is excellent and the warming rack useful (although it can get in the way of items on the grill directly underneath it).
All in all, as I said at the start, I do really like this bbq. It looks amazing and is big enough to cope with most demands. But the assembly needs looking at, because it needs to remain sturdier then it currently is. I would recommend it, but you will need to regularly maintain it.
This is a good, value-for-money bbq which would cost a lot more in a store. The materials make it look impressive when assembled. I did not have the problems of damaged parts on delivery, and in fact, mine was pristine. The dificulties arise when you have to construct it. Although it comes with German and English instruction manuals, the English one is confined to a list of parts and diagrams showing each stage. So far, so good. The problems start when a complicated stage is dealt with only by miniscule diagrams which are far from obvious or intuitive. This shortcoming could be easily solved by one employee of the manufacturer reveiwing the instructions, and adding in stages which demand greater coverage. Additionally, not every part of the bbq is shown in the diagrams, so that an assembler can get to the end and find parts which have not been used. It is quite easy to remedy that, by retracing your steps, but it is uneccesary and easily solvable by the manufacturer. The Youtube video of construction makes it look like a breeze and suggests that construction can be completed in 30 minutes. My experience was subtsantially different. If the instructions were improved, I would give this product 5 stars.
Assembly took me & a helper 2.5 hours.
instructions came in English and German.
Some YouTube videos that helped a little, the video was 4 mins long, so no where close to being in enough detail.
Got to the very last bit (the charcoal draw) it didn’t fit in the gap. Had to unscrew some parts and shuffle parts around to get draw to fit. Now the lid doesn’t close evenly tight. Will need more unscrewing and shuffling of parts I guess?
Couldn’t face doing it now, after 2.5 hours. Will do before first bbq.
What was good a lot of the screws are already screwed in the parts such as legs, I didn’t realise at first I thought I had screw missing.
Build feels good. Looks amazing, this type of bbq would easily be double the price in B&Q.
Lots of nice features that you simply wouldn’t get at this price point on the high street, such adjustable charcoal tray.
As much as it was a pain building, I’m pleased and think I got a bargain.
Very happy with the BBQ itself, very robust and quality feeling. Assembly fairly simple. Let down by a few quality control issues. The unit I received was in perfect packaging, yet one the the vent covers was bent, this looks like it left the factory this way. Not much of a problem to remove it and bend it back flat. One of the stainless steel handles was covered in sticky residue and rust – I assume this is because the part was not cleaned properly during manufacturing – washed with warm soapy water and the residue along with the rust came off. The screws to attach the legs are attached in the factory and one was missing, wasn’t a disaster as I happened to have the correct size (M6-10) lying around, but I would imagine most people would not. Found these quality control issues to really let down what was otherwise a really nice product, I would describe this as high quality if it wasn’t for these issues.
Started with a negative , as I ordered the old model with full grill as it had better reviews. When the order arrived, I had been sent the newer model which has poorer reviews. A message to the seller received the response that the older models are no longer available in the warehouse, yet they are still listed which is a bit naughty.
Took us about an hour to assemble, instructions are in German but the pictures help you get to grips with it. A couple of the part were bent and needed straightening with pliers before we could fit them.
We pre fired the kit and it reached temperatures of 250 degrees very quickly. Barbeque looks great, was easy to wheel about although quite heavy, but overall we are pleased with them item.
I did ask the seller to recommend the correct size cover, but never got a reply which was disappointing. I have now bought the cover from Aldi for 4.99 and it’s great, so they lost a sale there.
Our son has the older model and the only difference is the grill area, the newer model has the grill in grill system which allow you to remove a circular piece of grill and insert a wok or pizza stone. The barbeque cooks great and we use the instant light bags of lump wood charcoal which are no fuss and cook well.
This is a good looking, fairly easy to put together barbecue which I am as yet to use. Most of the assembly is clicking together, the only fiddly part is setting up the adjustable charcoal tray as the instructions are a little on the small side in terms of the illustrations.
My issue is not with build quality, everything seems to be well built and welded, but with the packaging/quality control of the product. The box it was delivered in was the actual product box, with no additional packaging from amazon, which is fine, but that box had slightly dented corners, but nothing out of the ordinary you would expect from any large delivery item.
When I unpacked the pieces, there were 3 major pieces which were dented and as a result were missing paint. I had to manually bend some back into position as I don’t want to return it for another one at my inconvenience, I’d rather just touch up the missing paint and beat the dents out. (pictures shown)
So in summary, a great product, (particularly like the circular removable part of the grill which can be swapped out for other Tepro bits, such as skillets, you could easily even fit a wok in there) but you may have some minor faults with it, It just depends how much of an effort it would be for you to return it as to whether you run the risk.
Bought this BBQ after much research and I am highly delighted with it. Had it just over a year and it is looking nearly as good as new. It is stored outside all year round under a Tepro cover which now leaks. There is one tiny patch of rust on one corner so will have to find a replacement for the cover. It’s a shame that the Tepro cover is made out of material that is not up to the job as in all other respects the cover is well fitting and feels substantial.
The BBQ was delivered very promptly well packed and with no damage. If you are of a certain age and enjoyed building meccano as a child you will enjoy putting this BBQ together! I found all the parts fitted well. It is worth not tightening screws ’till they are all in place so that holes are allowed to align. Finally go round and tighten them all up. To cure the paint, as instructed, just use charcoal and keep an eye on the temperature. Do not use wood, cardboard etc that will produce flames as areas of the lid will be burnt due to very high local temperatures. Common sense really, but I saw some pictures where such damage had occurred.
Cooking on the BBQ is easy because of the feature that allows the fire to be raised and lowered. Used it a couple of times with the lid closed to ensure meat on the bone cooked through and it worked well. The warming shelve comes into it’s own to keep precooked veg and potatoes warm.
The shelf below the BBQ is very handy. I use a large plastic ‘Really Useful’ box, that fits on this shelf, to store all the paraphernalia that goes with BBQing. It gives a very tidy arrangement.
Great value; not super heavy metal or indestructible construction, but thats to be expected for the price.
I scoffed at people taking 3h to construct this thing, but when I got to it I was at it for a solid 2h 30 at least, with a fully charged electric screwdriver (which I recommend- you also need a pair of socket wrenches to attach the wheels). It was quite complicated for a flat-pack, but nothing massively challenging. I managed the whole thing solo; the 2 person part was a little fiddly but doable. A few minor construction gripes:
1. There are elongated screw-holes for attaching the legs, but the later addition of the handle requires the screws to be sitting perfectly in their holes. I imagine this is why some reviews said they needed to re-drill holes. I backtracked a bit, readjusted the connections, and everything fit together with only minor convincing.
2. When attaching the lid handles, one of the 2 welded on threading attachments popped off, so one hinge side is only screwed on with a single screw, not 2.
Use wise, we set it up for the initial proving burn as recommended in the instructions using no-added-chemicals charcoal. Everything went fine; no charring or damage (which a 1 star review scared me of).
The main lighting and bbq a few hours later went equally well; easy to light, easy to reload (the door at the front is great) and the raising and lowering of coals was easy and useful. We made everything you expect at a barbecue and more with ease. Not big enough to quickly feed our cohort of 20, but as big as I would possibly have it. There was only 1 usage gripe: The warming rack wouldn’t stay in, and kept popping out, so it was banished to the garage forevermore. The construction problems were not really an issue; tiny problems that will never affect me again. The warming rack being unusable is what cost this bbq its 5th star. But even then, its still very happily usable as a bbq.
Overall: sturdy, large, great utility with the adjustable air vents, raisable coal bed and built in thermometer, and the ash trap made it easy to clean. Very close to a 5 star review, would recommend. The coating on the grill parts is study non-stick; the grime popped right off without too much elbow grease, even though it had been used for 6 hours and left to dry.
Top BBQ! Very well rated online and found this Tepro one (as opposed to other websites offering strangely similar “Toronto” models) to be the real deal. Not used yet, but will be following the guide with pre-firing later today and will see how we get on, no doubt it will be fine.
Arrived in the branded box, all parts (and there are many!) were in perfect order. All metal parts are labelled, making for easy identification, screws/bolts all similarly marked as per photo. If you’ve built Ikea furniture before you’ll know the score, but make sure you have everything out ready and double check everything. Some reviews mention poor fitting metalwork, or bolts/screws that don’t work properly, had NO issues whatsoever with putting this together. I built this on my own in just under 2 hours. Don’t think it needs 2 people necessarily, but would probably help. It’s more fiddly than difficult, anyone could build this, just take your time and check the instructions carefully. The instructions provided are A5 sized and the diagrams are very small. I found the manual online here, https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/C1Vq8fgF4vS.pdf , and this really helped to zoom in to see the pictures. Step 9, raising the bed to insert the pin, was not needed as this was already installed.
Good BBQ forums hate the built in thermometers with a passion as they say they are not accurate. They advise to calibrate this before use to see what it really reads. To do this I detached the thermometer and put this in a cup of boiling water to see what it read. Slightly under 100C, so pretty good i’d say. Time will tell when used for cooking/smoking at higher temps, but so far so good.
Very impressed with the whole setup, extremely well built and designed, hopefully gives us many years of good BBQ’ing!
I originally wanted a Landmann Tennessee 11403 / 11503 BBQ but it cost more than my wife wanted (me) to spend. Then I found this BBQ which to all intense and purpose is the same unit (made by Landmann for Tepro or vice versa?) with a slightly different hood and costing less.
I was a bit concerned about the reviews regarding assembly, and so decided to see how long it took using a regular screwdriver, as opposed to an electric one: 2-hours dead…. and that includes chatting to the neighbour for about 15-minutes. It was quite a simple process made easier by the well-marked components (B&Q, Argos, Ikea – take note). See photos. Also, the section which states that 2-pepole are required, is rather overstating it and one will suffice.
The only issue I found was regarding wheel installation: because it uses lock nuts to hold the wheels on, the axle turns when you turn the (recommended) adjustable spanner. To make life easier use a 17mm spanner with 17mm ring spanner on the other end; alternatively, hold the axle with water pump pliers or monkey grips, but ensure that place wadding between the jaws and the axle else you mark it.
You may which to use a 10mm deep socket to tighten 6mm nuts for ease. Aside from that, this is a very well-constructed and thought out BBQ which should last for many years — just what you’d expect from the Germans.
What a well made barbecue – or is that just the assemblers:)
This German made barbecue was put together by myself and my daughter and was rolled out at the weekend to many oohs and ahhs about how good it was.
Previously had a gas barbecue for many years, but missed the charcoal flavour, despite all they say about gas!.
Assembly – very straightforward once you have checked the items. This IS worth doing, particularly to note that one of the items comes preattached to the charcoal tray raising assembly, and not in the item tray, so it is actually NOT missing!
The small item tray ( washers, bolts screws etc) is a paragon of german efficiency with each piece individually separated and identified. If you look carefully on the tray it is designed so that you half open each section and take out each item only as you need it. Helped a lot in the assembly.
Key Features: The ability to raise and lower the charcoal bed is a GREAT asset, meaning you can vary the temperature, and importantly raise the bed as the coals are running out of juice, getting the most out of it!
The vents work and are worthwhile, and the side table is made of stout metal and fixes on the side extremely well. It can be lowered for storage.
There is a separate , not very deep ash tray which the ash from the charcoal tray falls into. This is a good idea, – but not very deep. I also found it easier to use a small fire shovel to lift the main amount of ashes, into a bag, and draw out the ash tray slowly, shoveling up as I went. Any amount of wind sends ash everywhere so need to do it in shelter!
The bottle opener is a nice touch too!
Value: – It is at the upper end of charcoal barbecues, but having the varible bed is a great asset, and it is very well made with reasonable guage metal not thin tin! so you get what you pay for.
Cooking: – easy to vary and the taste is great! – will not be going back to gas now!
Overall very pleased and would, and have recommend it to those who like charcoal barbecues!
*update*
Upgrading to 5stars, I made one fundamental mistake in constructing this amazing BBQ. I mentioned how the warming rack did not fit correctly and the lid could not close up smoothly. Well it was because I fitted the warming rack upside down! Which meant it was not secure and also caused the lid to not close smoothly. But it does now and all is fine and I’ve done three BBQs so far this summer with it, once in the rain too. And I can’t help but praise how well built and ease it is to use. I can’t wait to get some autumn and winter BBQs going now! Also not the lid is closing up smoothly now I may even try smoking with it!!
Ordered on Sunday and arrived on the Tuesday so that was good. Haven’t had the chance to use it yet as my wife and I just managed to assemble it tonight. As most reviewers say, we too took around 2hours and it was straight forward enough with the instructions. It may have been a little over 2 hours actually but I’d expect more experienced diy people would take less time than my wife and myself. The lid cover hinges was not very well aligned but we managed to put it together, but when shutting the lid we now need to push down a little harder than expect to fully enclose this BBQ. I would not suggest using this BBQ for smoking as it is not really air tight enough, and I’d expect you would lose a lot of favour if you were to try this as a smoker. Other than that the BBQ itself seems sturdy enough to last many years more than the cheap ones I use to buy every 1-2years. Also a warning for all, do not buy the draper suggested with this BBQ as its really over sized.
All in all so far so good, will review after summer again once it’s been used and abused. 120 makes it a bargain really, wouldn’t have paid anymore, that was the main reason for purchasing this BBQ, the price was good and general feedback has been good too.
