Great gameplay, poor story. Each person has the right to either like or hate this game. For me it was neither I was somewhere in the middle. First time playing through the game it made me mad. I grew to love Joel and Ellie over the first game and when they killed off one of my favourite characters by Hulk I was angry. Joel killed an NPC at the end of the last of us which is the starting point to this game. The game only gives you about a few minutes to play as Joel which is a shame considering you play as him for the majority of the first game but I’m willing to move on as I knew they were going to kill off one of my favourite characters. I quite enjoyed playing as Ellie although she felt more different than the Ellie I grew to love from the first game it felt like watching a DC movie just dark and grim (not that I don’t like DC films). The gore I quite enjoyed and I didn’t feel for the NPCs I was killing as you’re their to get you’re revenge in the end of the day but it’s a revenge is bad type of story. I didn’t enjoy killing the dogs but it was either that or they kill me unless you do a full stealth playthrough. Killing the zombies was fun. I loved the flashbacks as it reminded me of the first game I loved. Didn’t enjoy all the drama between Joel and Ellie as it felt falsed and I just kept shouting at the screen “Joel tell her you lost your daughter for god sake and you weren’t willing to loose another”. He did what he had to to keep her alive. No one in this apocalyptic world is a good person as you do what you have to in order to get by. Ellie wasn’t given the option to choose for herself so it was down to Joel to make the decision for her. Even if they could make a vaccine then it would be down to the “Fireflies” a terrorist organisation to then distribute it around the world which I’m guessing wouldn’t end well. Even if you listen to one of the tapes in the hospital you hear Marlene say the fireflies was going to kill the smuggler “Joel” once he delivered the goods i.e. Ellie. I’m sorry but I don’t feel sorry for saving Ellie any father would do the same to protect their child. Anyway an important character is killed off in a bad way and then your revenge story is in motion. Once you get to the climatic scene which you think will be the ending or that you’ll get satisfactory revenge against Hulk you then see Hulks perspective as to why she killed of the main character and how she is badly dealing with it all. I never really felt sorry for her although I did enjoy smashing zombies as Hulk. You see all the devastation you cause as Ellie through the story through Hulks perspective and you’re also given the best scripted gameplay scenes as Hulk (the rat king). And again you eventually reach again to the climatic ending or so you think which you are falsed to play as Hulk hunting Ellie which I did not enjoy but I guess that is meant to be the case. Which again ends strangely with Hulk being the better person and walking away. You then move ahead in time as to where Ellie is enjoying life until you see she is suffering from PTSD of the brutal murder of a main character. She then is somewhat pushed to go back on another revenge quest to kill Hulk. Which again was anticlimactic and in the end it just feels like every character is broken and left helpless. This game is very depressing and took me a long time to come back to and replay it. I didn’t enjoy how Ellie treated Joel but I guess that’s the route they chose to gown that Ellie’s life would have meant something if Joel left her to be killed and that a vaccine could be made to be distributed by a terrorist organisation. Anyway replayed and enjoyed it more this time as I just didn’t think too much into it and just enjoyed the gameplay as it is satisfying killing zombies and being hunted and trying to hide from your enemies is nerve wrecking. Any all in all this game is enjoyable but very controversial so take it as you will.
The game world looks phenomenal and though it follows the same contained level style of the first game it does a better job of giving the illusion of an open world. Game play is similar although there are additional options, such as jumping and crawling. The story is amazing, primarily because the characters are so well written. Yes, the game takes a massive chance in the early stages and it does so focusing on the way things finished in the last game and a question that was burning in my mind at the end of Last of Us 1, namely: where can they possibly go from here? I loved the first game and would have been more than happy it ending as it did with no sequels. But the thing is, if you *had* to make a sequel, then I think it had to realistically begin in the tragic way this game does. Above that, every character is written with real attention to their beliefs and points of view; never has that adage of “no villain sees themselves as the bad guy” felt more relevant.
If you loved the gameplay of Last of Us 1, you’ll love the game play of this. And if you want a mature story that takes the events of the first game and has them have real consequences with people reacting to these events in believable ways then this is the game for you. Also, there are so many great female characters in this game – possibly it’s because I don’t play enough games right now but to me this one seemed ground-breaking in adding a bit of diversity and it’s a worthy experience just for that, although the story and gameplay are the key selling points for me. Only negative points are that the gameplay can get a bit repetitive, e.g. battle, forage, battle, forage, and with similar obstacles occurring throughout (usually trying to open a locked door between areas that makes lots of noise and draws in the enemy). It’s because of this last one being used so much that you’re often forced to battle the enemies rather than be able to always stealth your way around. But, still, this didn’t impact the story, which was always the main draw for me to this game and also why I ended up playing it twice.
Too much needs to be said about this game.
And too much toxicity over the Internet.
I absolutely loved the first chapter.
This second game needs to be analysed with a flexible mind.
Do not expect to re-live the first game. This one is brutal and aims to tell a story of revenge, loss, hatred. It tells about love, hardships, belonging.
It is a story that will break your heart.
Graphics are stunning and animations are top-of-the-line. Dubbing is majestic, and you get other downloadable languages as well.
Gameplay is very similar to the first episode, though, when using Ellie, the gameplay revolves around slyness instead of strenght.
The game is not very long, but the amount of details requires the player to ease through the game, savouring each little detail. From the story of the guy who died of hunger because was afraid to come out of the room, to the drama of containing infected people in the parking lot.
Reminds me of the exodus of Ish in the first chapter.
Once you finish the game there is quite a bit of replayability.
This game is an absolute work of art and everyone should play it. If not for the action, for its breathtaking visuals and dramatic story.
A game that really tells a story that will deeply touch the playe
The best game I play so far… quality of details make this game perfect! You have to play this game. You not gonna be disappointed. Game come in original packaging with original foil on it. Not damaged or missing items. Well Recommended
A masterpiece in every single aspect. Not suitable for homophobic people though… Please experience this game yourself instead getting influenced by the opinion of 40 years old dudes living in their mum’s basement. Happy gaming!
I can’t put into words how amazing this game is
The story, the weapons the environment and artwork is masterfully done
This is such an emotionally attachable game
I didn’t buy this game straight away because of the bad reviews it received.
Ignore them. Make your own mind up.
I loved the last of us so I wanted this game for a long time. I was not disappointed.
Without giving anything away, it makes you jump, cry and shout at the screen.
I’ve played it 3 times now, it still makes me cry in parts even though I already know what’s going to happen.
I’m playing it on harder settings each time
The graphics are amazing, you loose yourself in the story line.
At first I hated playing Abby, but then after playing her character, and finding out more about her back story, I started to feel sorry for her.
At first I hated the cut scenes. They take so long, but they give the back story to the game and characters that you should know if you want to understand what is driving them to kill each other.
Played relestlessley for a week and loved it. Then decided I hated it and then went back to loving it again? It has been contraversial but should definitely be experienced. The game is stunning and is a piece of art.
I loved this game. personally It’s my favourite game of the last bunch of years. What a game to send off a generation of consoles. great story and some slick game mechanics.
There seems to be some guff on the internet about some fans decrying the storyline choices etc. but honestly I don’t understand where they are coming from. The story, much like the first, has characters who are wrapped in shades of grey but this time points a finger at the human nature of taking an eye for an eye and that endless circle of revenge to name but a couple of ways the story is working.
It has its dark and harsh moments sure but this game balances that with hope. Much like it’s destroyed world setting, there is breathtaking beauty in nature claiming the world back and even beauty in the vibrancy of the infected as the fungus takes over them but also the story always has some hope soemwhere, to me anyway.
basically, my take is to ignore the people shouting the loudest and give this game a chance to make your own mind up. Its worth the journey.
If you enjoyed the first game then you’ll love this. Yes, it’s violent. Very violent. But not without purpose or thought. It’s also massive (took me 24 hours) so there’s lot to enjoy.
This game really did a good job at telling two sides of a story. This game in some areas do feel long but overall I loved it and think Naughty Dog did a great job! Loved the characters and the music and environments is stunning as always.
What an amazing & beautiful game. Most definitely the game of the year and a great end to a Ps4 era. Will have to play this game again in the near future to 100% it, looking forward to my next playthrough.
Can’t fault the fast free delivery. Was expecting royal mail so was surprised when it was tracked DPD which surely costs more? Can’t comment on the game yet as I haven’t had time to play it yet but package & delivery = perfect.
Bought for my husband as he really enjoyed the first game. He loved this one too and was really happy he managed to get it as soon as it came out thanks to preordering
First things first technically, narratively and presentationally this ticks all the boxes as a good game, even a great one, but I can’t give it five stars, why? Because it isn’t fun.
The game is relentlessly grim, those moments of wonder and tenderness in the first one? Almost entirely absent in this, replaced by and large with a persistent whiny resentfulness, 90% of the main characters in the game are a-holes, those that aren’t are accompanied by the a-holes. The dodgy shooting mechanics and crowbars that break after 4 uses of the first one are still present and still as annoying as all hell, there are human enemies in the game that can survive a point blank headshots, just because. The humans in Seattle in this game present a massive plot hole of if you shoot everyone you meet, how does any faction at all recruit new members?
The game is waaaaay too long, it may seem wierd complaining about content but by the time you finish this game you will have passed one point you thought may be the end and one that you hoped was the end and then have played a last section that feels tacked on and is high amongst the most gratuitously violent pieces of video games I’ve ever played. It’s entirely unnecessary and adds nothing to the story or characters.
If you own a PS4 you have to at least try this game, it is by any measure an.achievement in gaming but more as a piece of narrative art than a fun game, by the end its a grind, that’s more affecting than fun.
Last Of Us 2 is really good. A genuine improvement on the original, gameplay wise. Only criticism is too many flashbacks which double as tutorials. I’d have preferred they used the storyline to introduce new weapons and techniques. The characters are developed well and I felt immersed as a playe
This game was bought as a birthday present for my husband. He’d loved the first game and could not wait to start this one. He loves it. Good story line and excellent graphics.
This game is absolutely brilliant! I just completed it and wanted to wait until I had completed it to review it.
I wont give away any spoilers but I wasn’t sure what I would think of it judging from some of the bad reviews but I thought I would take a chance on it – considering I loved the first game so much.
Just to back up a little, I hadn’t played the first game or even heard of it until the hype for the second game being released started. So I bought the first game, played it all the way through and loved it and by the time I finished it, this second game was released. I loved the first game, amazing storyline and the actual game itself was very enjoyable too, accurate, looked great and was fun to play – but the storyline was so good that it stood out to me as one of the best storylines in a game ever – better than most movies or TV shows.
So, I wanted to see where the story would go in the second game, despite the bad reviews, I just needed to experience it myself because the first one was so good and I actually feel that they surpassed it with this game – the storyline works on so many different levels and it a work of genius to be honest.
I don’t understand the negative reviews at all, I don’t know what is wrong with the brains of the people who think that the creators messed up at all, they have created a truly unique and masterful sequel to the first game.
It would have been very uncreative and boring if the second game was exactly like the first one – they have truly created a masterpiece with the storyline and storytelling in this game, it hits you hard emotionally and makes you think – that’s what great art should do.
I am so pleased I didn’t listen to the negative reviews and decide not to buy it.
If you like the first game and you are an intelligent human being then you will love this game just as much or more so than the first.
It is addictive to play and it does look absolutely brilliant, but the main thing that stands out to me is the absolutely brilliant storyline! I wouldn’t change anything about the game, they have done a brilliant job with it.
I’m so close to the end of this game and it has been amazing. It’s a slow build up and it was difficult to get into but honestly once it picks up its non stop and its kept me on the edge of my seat! I don’t want it to end
I have been looking forward to playing this so much, I’ve ignored the trailers and reviews.
I’m struggling to get into this sequel, the game play is smooth and it looks awesome. It just doesn’t feel as if it’s offered anything particular new and the story hasn’t dragged me in.
The lesbian doesn’t bother me or the ‘masculine’ figure of a female character.
I’m hoping it changes, I’m about 3 hours into it. The first one took me straight away.
First if I cannot understand for the life of me how anyone could score this badly.
If you have played the Last of Us you will have been so emotionally drawn into the characters that it will only serve to increase the playability of Last of Us Part 2.
The graphics are just on another level that push the PS4 as it’s predecessor did the PS3. They are stunning.
The sound effects and soundtrack manage to grip you with your eyes closed not that’s you’ll want to do this without being chomped or shot at.
The characters and subsequent voice acting and story pulls you deeper in. The Subjects covered are natural and not at all forced down your throat. It’s no secret that Ellie is gay and that is covered with sensitivity and woven in.
I can’t say anymore without spoiling your experience other than Do not wait to buy this game. You’ll get a 30hr playable film that does truly shock and question your humanity.
My brother enjoyed this and rates it as a sequel! Obviously there are some aspects of the game play that you need to accept and adapt to but overall the story line kept him interested!
This game was incredible, I fell in love with the universe in Part 1 and Part 2 expands that universe and more. The game is massive, beautiful and deadly, and you can really tell why Naughty Dog spent 7 years making the game.
Story 10/10
Gameplay 10/10
Graphics 10/10
Audio 10/10
Genuinly shocked to see so many negative reviews about this game!
My experience of this game is that I personally rank it as equal to the best game I have ever played, (Final Fantasy 7) – the story is absolutely mind blowingly good. Myself and my partner played this for several hours every night over a period of a couple of weeks, and we were both completely glued to it, and found ourselves talking about it all the time when not playing.
The developers should be applauded for their creativity, not only in the graphics / world (which is another topic) but the story and the way they manipulate time is like nothing else I have ever played, simply incredible.
I loved the original – I will never forget that introduction video, and then the fact it cuts to 20years later – this blew my mind. Most games of this genre are set “now” with the outbreak being a current thing, but Last Of Us thinks ahead and then imagines what the world would be like 20years from that point.
Last of Us 2 continues in this fashion, without giving spoilers away, there is another jump in time and also another “side to the story” which we didn’t see coming at all. Rather than try and pick up the story straight after the end of LOU1, the game resumes some time in the future – which does away with having to keep the story going in a chronological fashion, which I think really works well.
The graphics… now for me, I am much more interested in a good story than graphics. I am happy to play 90s/00s games with “poor” graphics if the story is strong. But in this game, graphics are something else – I am genuinely amazed by what they have done, not only in their appearance (ie – beautiful graphics) but the thought that has gone into the world, and what it would look like 20+ years into this virus outbreak, war, riots, bombing, civil unrest, natural disasters etc… the developers have really thought carefully about it and created a world which is breathtaking, and quite terrifying to imagine (but also, weirdly, you can totally believe and sympathise with)
Absolutely everything about this game is 10/10 for me, I cannot say a single negative thing about it, and I am desperate to play it again on Story+ mode. I also really want to play LOU1 again with this back-to-back and relive the entire story.
For me, this is the best 2-part game ever made. Certainly a story-line I’ll never forget
Thank you
WARNING: SO MANY TROLLS BOMBING THE REVIEWS
This game is beautiful. So much detail and care has gone into this game. All the little details and animations make it feel really polished.
I will say that I came in hyped for the story, but the gameplay and in game moments stole the spotlight for me. Big improvement on combat and stealth mechanics, plus new encounter selection mode means surprisingly high replay value.
Story wise, I had no real expectations of where they’d take it, so I just went with the flow and enjoyed it. It seems some people are making a fuss. Not sure what they were expecting from it.
I suppose it would be fair to say, its not a straight up fan service piece. I don’t want to give anything away, but I fully respect what they were going for: shaking up the traditional story model of protagonist Vs antagonist.
So For the record: if you’re coming into it with your blinders on, looking purely for a fan serviced storyline. , perhaps you might find yourself thinking “I wish they’d done X or y here instead.”
But hands down the best game I’ve played on PS4 all year, if not ever.
This game is honestly easily a 10/10 if you just stop to look a everything they’ve done here. I’m no game developer but even I can tell that this is a technical masterpiece.
Story: 8/10
Gameplay: 10/10
Replayabilty: 10/10
Graphics: 10/10
Audio 10/10 (hearing those bullets fly past you really gets your heart pounding).
Love and care gone into a project: 11/10
One of the best games I’ve ever played. From start to finish. 10/10.
Perfect, fast delivery and works as it should. Very good game
I’ve not finished it yet, but what an amazing game, amazing, engrossing story.
Great gameplay, poor story. Each person has the right to either like or hate this game. For me it was neither I was somewhere in the middle. First time playing through the game it made me mad. Best game I played. Bought a PlayStation just to play the last of us exclusives
Highly recommend playing
I love the game but when 1st copy ordered it was faulty so had to reorder..But refund was a quick and painless process

This game is a must!! Simply one of the best out there
This is an amazing game. Works perfectly on a base PS4. The story is the best I’ve ever played.
Great game, very enjoyable and entertaining. Highly recommend especially if you’ve played Part 1.
The best game I play so far… quality of details make this game perfect! You have to play this game. You not gonna be disappointed. Game come in original packaging with original foil on it. Not damaged or missing items. Well Recommended
Probably one of the best games I’ve ever played. Story, graphics just everything is amazing
Such a great follow up to the original. A truly beautiful, if gross, game – stunning detail in every part. Loved it.
Present for my OH he couldn’t stay off it fast delivery too
Loved this game, hooked till I finished. Thought about it for weeks afte

Apart from the lesbian theme and muscular girl, this was a great game. ALL gamers should play this, regardless of negative reviews or not.
Great follow up on the first game. Ignore the haters.
Dunkey’s review on youtube sums up the pros and cons of the game really well.

Just amazing all that needs to be said. Unlucky X-Box fans
Item as expected, good quality arrived on time and reasonable price.
Love it. Masterpiece.
The story doesn’t always go the way you want it to but the gameplay and detail is amazing
Ignore all media. Buy and enjoy this amazing game. Gameplay and animation is incredible and the story weaves and connects well.
Alot of hype over nothing not great game compared to the resident evil type games
I really enjoyed this game, was a shame when it ended
Probably the most engaging, and gruelling, experience a video game can offer. Takes video gaming to a new level.
What a fantastic game, full of emotions, scary at times made me jump out my skin and happy at times
**updated review**
Excellent game, would recommend to anyone who’s a fan of the series
It was not as i was expecting, and however it’s still a great game! I still prefer the first one which is always going to be the best game ever!
This was bought as a gift for my son. As far as I am aware he is very much enjoying it and says ‘it’s been worth the wait’!
I completed it and now playing new game+. Enjoyed it more than last of us 1
First if I cannot understand for the life of me how anyone could score this badly.
WHAT AN AMAZING GAME! Always been a fan and never disappointed, well done naughty dog once again.
My brother enjoyed this and rates it as a sequel! Obviously there are some aspects of the game play that you need to accept and adapt to but overall the story line kept him interested!
story line bit long and you cant jump forward.. but as the game goes on it gets better and better great game .
Been looking forward to this, all the negative spoilers, the game looks and runs well, I am about 6hrs in, and enjoying i
This game was incredible, I fell in love with the universe in Part 1 and Part 2 expands that universe and more.
All the elements I enjoyed from the first game (great plot, characters, gameplay).
