We used to have *swarms* of at least three different kinds of fungus gnats! After having used this product (four applications), I haven’t seen but one or two individuals, since.
There is a proper method of using this – and that is to use either rainwater, or tap water that has been boiled then cooled overnight, in a watering can. DO NOT use hot water, cold water, or chlorinated water (fresh tapwater) – you want it clear of chemicals, and room temperature. You are, in effect, creating a bacterial culture, after all!
If you have tried these sorts of products before, without any luck, now you can try it again.
At first I was Sceptical about this product it arrived small little bag . But hay ho will give it a go as I was overrun with little black annoying fly’s I used in conjunction with yellow fly sticky pads. It’s taken about 3 weeks but I now only have the odd little fly. I water my plants once a week using 1 tablet dissolved in water as it advised and watering from the top. It will take a few weeks to work so just keep with it.
Works instantly. No more black flies in the house. Easy to use, just add a tablet to watering can.
These tablets are easy to use. Just throw one in a bucket of water or water can and use it to water your plants. It is doing something as I did notice the reduction in flies. I had been using stickers, flies stunk onto them but that did not stop them from breeding, this product seems to be the cure to it.
Each tablet works out to about 52p, not really cheap but it seems to working. If you don’t mind the price then just give it a go.
If you own houseplants you’re bound to come across gnats and they are irrirtating little pests.
One tablet is needed on the watering can, I haven’t noticed any gnats since we began using this.
It’s very easy to use, brilliant for the value and perfect adhesion.
I fully reccomend this, their products have been perfect for my gnat problems.
Now I can enjoy my houseplants without pests.
We have been plagued by small black flies which seem to like a particular pot in the conservatory we have tried various things without success.
With these tablets I was a bit concerned about the dilution as it states one tablet is suitable for up to 10 litres and did not want to make it too strong in case it damaged the plant so I cut one in half and used it in a 5 litre watering can.
It took two applications a week apart but we now seem to be completely free of the little black flies.
I used different products for gnats and they all seem to be helping somewhat but not fully. So I tried another method, use water not on top of the soil but the bottom, into the tray, wait half an hour and empty the tray from the leftover water, this way the topsoil gets dry and the eggs die and flies can’t feed themselves anymore and the plants get enough water. Combined with this product it seems that the process of it is faster.
It is easy to use and after a few weeks, my impression is that it has worked to some extent. I seem to have fewer flies but still have some. Of course these might not be coming form the area I have treated. I think this works.
Very good and very reasonably priced! Makes 250 litres of water based solution. BTI is a bacteria that kills the gnats and their eggs deep at the roots without causing danger to the plant. Much better way in my opinion than using harsh chemical that if it doesn’t hurt the plant hurts the soil health.
I bought these as a back to my mosquito dunks.
I used one tablet in my eight litre watering can as my plants needed watering and no time for soaking dunks overnight.
I have only seen TWO fungus gnats since. I have over seventy plants so this is quite a result.
I am shocked. I was not expecting them to be so good. These tablets are expensive so will be kept as a backup for emergency watering and if I run out of dunks.
Had a terrible fungus gnat problem, managed to get rid of the adult ones but wanted something to get the larvae in the soil.
Dissolved pretty quick in 250ml of water, I used it in a spray bottle to saturate the top of the soil and then sprayed again after 4 days and so far I haven’t seen any adult gnats emerge so it seems to be doing the job.
Pretty good value since one tablet can do upto 10 litres and it’s not something you need to use daily.
I have previously ordered these in powder form but I prefer the tablets. Though they are both effective but the problem with the powder is that it’s too fine and you may inhale it when you open the package.
The tablet is easy to use. On the first application I wanted it concentrated so I dissolved one tablet in 2 litres of water and watered lightly on the surface of the soil as gnats, and their eggs, live in the upper section of the soil. Two to three days later the number of these little annoying flies reduced to approximately half. A week later I repeated and saw little flies left after 2 days.
The results are promising and I inted to repeat 3rd time.
The packet is well sealed with good instruction and there are 25 pills inside. Each week I used 3 pills2 litres of water. If I have to repeat in 2-3 months, I guess the packet is still worth the price.
I’ve tried three of The Mosquito Company’s anti-gnat solutions and they’ve all helped and if your main requirement is for houseplants then this one is probably the quickest and most effective from a standing start. I also treated most of my houseplants with their Anti-Gnat Pot Topper but that’s only really practical for small to moderately-sized pots (it gets very expensive for big pots) and so for larger pots this is a preferable solution. You get a small sachet of small tablets, there were 26 tablets in mine, and each tablet creates up to 10 litres of solution which is a good-sized watering can full. The tablets take a few minutes to dissolve, so I filled the watering can and left it for 10 minutes before giving it a good stir. You water it onto your plants making sure to completely douse the whole of the top surface because that’s where the flies and their larvae live. I watered my plants as normal the day before so the compost would be moist and this solution wouldn’t just drain straight through and all end up in the planter or saucer beneath.
The bacteria contained within the solution only kill the larvae of the sciarid flies rather than the flies themselves but since they have a relatively short lifespan (adult flies live for about a week) it really doesn’t take long to see their numbers drop. This effectively breaks their breeding and life cycle so within days they should be gone or vastly reduced and you can repeat the treatment again after 5 to 7 days to catch any that escaped. That’s the only negative with this treatment, you have to repeat it at regular intervals to keep any visiting flies from setting up home in your plant pots. That’s why I use the pot topper too because it creates a long-term physical barrier that continues to prevent flies laying eggs in your pots. However, where that’s not practical these Larvae Killer Tablets are a really effective and reasonably fast-acting solution.
I’ve been using sticky traps for a while with good success however I had one plant which seemed to be particularly badly affected. I had caught literally hundreds of fungus gnats in a few weeks but there was always still a few adults hanging around.
I’d added this into the equation and it seems to have tipped the balance. Make sure you soak every inch of the surface of the soil otherwise it won’t work.
This is more expensive than traps but at 25 tablets (I counted as it say on the pack!) there is more than enough for consecutive treatments.
The Mosquito Company, Fungus Gnat Larvae Killer is, 100% natural solution with no chemically made pesticides which is great. I had some gnat issues so I used this in water and it seems to be working well.
Combined with sticky traps, it has SIGNIFICANTLY reduced my gnat problem in my Tulsi plants.
Easy to use . Just dissolve in maximum
Of 10 litres of water . Then water all the soil
Throughly .
As you can see I’d tried the fungus gnat traps first and there was bad infestation of my kitchen herbs ( mainly the parsley) . 48 hours later no gnats . Brilliant !
Very happy and as far as I have read it’s safe to use on edible plants such as herbs and tomatoes
I have loads of houseplants and so I do tend to notice the fungus gnats. I have tried several things over the years and often use the sticky traps, but these don’t stop the hatching.
I used the tablets as directed on the pack and in conjunction with my sticky pads I have noticed a reduction in the number of gnats flying around.
I am happy with this product as it does seem to be quite effective and I have not noticed any damage to my plants while using it. Happy to recommend.
Works almost instantly on getting rid of gnats and making sure they don’t come back. This product is super easy to use and the packet has a very clear instructions as to how to use it. Great item that certainly will not let you down, I couldn’t recommend enough
I purchased these tablets along with the pot topper granules as I had tried several other methods to get rid of those pesky little flies in my indoor plants.I also received FREE some sticky traps to put in the pots, followed all the instructions carefully and two days later . I can’t see any little horrible plant flies buzzing around the plant pots! So it seems to have worked !
I’m a big fan of those yellow sticky shapes, ever since they stopped adding insecticide to house plant compost – and I bloomin’ hate those wretched little fungus gnats!! They drive me mad so I’ve been using the sticky shapes, which do work pretty very well, trapping the adults so they can’t breed, but inevitably some escape and it doesn’t completely eradicate them. These tablets though – wow. I made up about 8-9 litres and dropped a tablet in, stirred to ensure it had dissolved then watered all my indoor plants. A week later and nothing – no more little flying pests. I’m so pleased I’ve told everyone I know and as you get 25 tablets, this will last ages, through several repottings and for any new plants. A brilliant buy.
I dissolved one tablet in about 500ml of water which was a spray bottle. I then saturated the top layer of compost of my plants. Overnight, the little gnats that would appear reduced. They hadn’t gone but it’s a fantastic start especially when the packet says it takes about 5-7 days. You can then repeat weekly but I have used this two days in a row and I’m very happy!
These soluble tablets have completely solved my fungus gnat problem that I’ve had on my orchid plants. They are very simple to use — dissolve the tablet in water , then water in — making sure you soak the whole plant pot growing medium. It works quickly. Highly recommend!
