This has surpassed my expectations. I have used it in four rooms so far and the results are impressive. I wouldn’t say this is “easy”. It’s a harder work than vacuuming, but I would expect that. The tank runs out quickly on deep clean mode, but again, expected as it is using a lot of water to clean the carpets. Overall, very good product.

I would highly recommend this machine. I had recently purchased a different cheaper make of carpet washer which I had to return as it was useless. The Vax platinum shampooed all my carpets beautifully and they dried within a couple of hours. I am very pleased I took the plunge and ordered this!

It really is a great machine. I have used a hired Rug Doctor in the past and I think this Vax is every bit as good

I am using it with the Vax Platinum cleaning solution and It seems to clean pretty much anything even stains that have been around for years

I do not use the Auto Mix facility as I have heard that doesn’t work very well so I simply add the solution into the main water tank and top it up using warm water

It’s very powerful machine and I know some people say that it’s too heavy, well it is quite heavy but once it’s switched on and the brush bar and SpinScrub are running it’s quite easy to push about

I have only used the Vax in it’s Deep Clean setting rather than the Quick Clean setting and as long as you go over the part you’ve just sprayed with solution a few times it does leave the carpet quite dry and I’ve just left it over night and it’s dry in the morning, if it’s not just leave it again through the day and it will be fine

One of the main reasons I spent a little bit extra for this machine is because of the extra hose and attachments and they all work very well. You get an ingenious Spin Scrub attachment which sort of copies the main units scrubbers as well as a normal nozzle attachment without the Spin Scrub as well as a Pre-Treatment wand so you can apply solution to really bad stains and leave it in for as long as you like

While the hire of a Rug Doctor is inexpensive at about 25 per day what happens when you have a new spill? Whereas once you’ve got your own cleaner it’s ready to go!

This review is for the Vax Platinum Power Max Carpet Cleaner.

The product arrived well packaged and on time. This is the last vax carpet cleaner that has been released. The product is fairly large and heavy. I’ve had a vax in the past so know roughly how they work. This one was relatively simple to setup and get going.

The product is well made and come with a few attachments.

Pros: good quality and works really well, great suction and power. It is simple to use and has a long cord length.

Cons: does not work that well on thick and long pile carpet.. so be warned. The suction is just too powerful and the vax just sticks to the floor.

Overall it’s a great product and work really well for shorter pile carpet. I would defo recommend.

This VAX carpet cleaner is powered on 1,200 Watts. It can hold 3.5ltrs and has two modes (quick clean and deep clean). It has a stretchable hose and pre-treatment wand for the stubborn stains.

Things I liked:
* bundled with 2x 250ml carpet solution
* bundled with 250ml pre-treatment spay (for stubborn stains)
* powerful internal 7x spinscrubs and large brusbar to help suck up and remove dirt form carpet
* I can see the dirty water collected in VAX machine 🙂

Overall, with lockd0wn it’s not convenient to rent out carpet cleaning machine. Owning one outright has the convenience to clean my carpet as and when it works for me. I will clean the remaining carpet when the weather is good (to speed up natural drying of carpet.

It arrived the day after ordering in a huge printed cardboard box in perfect condition, no polystyrene only cleverly shaped cardboard packaging and thin plastic bags on each separate part. It couldn’t have been packed any better IMO.
At the price I believe it is great value for what you get but I would respectfully suggest reading this review all the way through to be sure you best understand exactly what it is you are buying.
If you are looking for a day to day vacuum cleaner, keep looking, this is certainly not it!
If you are looking for a carpet and upholstery washing machine because you have a busy family household or domestic pets please read on because you are probably in the right place.
It may surprise some potential buyers of this machine that you must also have a decent vacuum cleaner as well as this machine.
In the instructions it is made abundantly clear that you are to vacuum up with your other cleaner thoroughly before using this.
I worked in the flooring trade for nearly 30 years and have to admit to mixed feelings about this type of machine.
In sensible, careful, instruction following hands this machine will make an excellent job of cleaning your shorter cut pile carpets.
If you have pets (Or children) and shorter pile carpets one of these will help your home to be more hygienic and smell fresher.
This will work equally well on any cut pile wool / wool mix & polypropylene, nylon or any other man made fibre carpets as long as they do not have either a luxury deep pile, or a textured Berber loop pile.
The easiest way to define a luxury pile is one that you can easily work your fingertips into all the way to the base of the pile and when you take your hand away the marks where your fingers were remain this only happens on long & loose pile products!.
If it is a Berber loop (Looped) pile the brushes will catch the loops and if they dont pluck them and make them run, over time they will make them pill. (little bobbles all over the surface making it look like an old jumper)
You wouldn’t attempt to brush your daughters hair with a brush if her hair is in platted into braids, only cylinder vacuums without powered heads should ever be used on this type and style of carpet
The machine is easy enough to assemble and comes with 2 bottles of 250ml Vax Platinum cleaning solution and a single 205ml bottle of Vax pre wash solution in a trigger spray bottle.
Fill the top chamber with warm water, up to but not more than 40 degrees (the highest setting on a hot tub so possibly warmer than you might expect) pour most of one of the Platinum solution bottles into the solution tank (which is clearly marked).
Now take a small quantity of the cleaning solution and dampen a white cloth and gently rub a small unexposed area or an off cut if you have one and leave it for 10 minutes. Then gently rub or dab the same area with a white paper towel and remove the solution, carefully check the paper towel to see if any of the colour has bled onto the towel, if it has, do not attempt to clean the carpet or upholstery with this machine / cleaner! If the carpet has multiple colours they must all be tested before use.
Ideally you should remove all the furniture from the room to do a proper job, if not possible you must place aluminium foil or wax paper under the legs to stop wooden furniture from staining the carpet. Pin up furniture skirts & curtains before you start.
Now go to a place in the room that is normally covered (Under a sofa?) and run the machine carefully following the instructions remaining within the area and stop.
Now carefully examine the carpet, has the colour bled? Is the pile distorted?
The good news is if the carpet is ok and has not bled or had the pile distorted you wont have to do all this next time you clean it!
Only if you are happy that the carpet is ok should you carry on and wash the rest of the room.
After each use remove the dirty water tank and empty it (they say down the sink but I would suggest the loo) and rinse it out being careful to make sure the (hard to see) clear mesh filter to the rear on the left as you face the machine is clean and clear of any debris, if clogged this will effect the machines performance!
This machine is clever in that it mixes the cleaning fluid for you, most people when they rent a machine have a tendency to use too much detergent ( a little extra for luck? ) which can in itself cause problems.
The combination of a beater brush and the 7 smaller counter rotating floating brushes behind the beater brush make a formidable team in cleaning your carpet, just look at the colour of the water you are taking out!
The prewash wand is useful if you have a build up of dirt in one area, like an entrance doorway, I would stick with the small hand held trigger bottle for smaller spots though.
This machine is not recommended for wooden floors, the manual says to check for a worn surface, bare wood or separated joints because they could be adversely effected by the machine, a squeegee attachment is included but should only really be used on vinyl flooring which can handle the water. There is a powered and a simple had included to go on the hose attachment so you can also clean stair carpets and upholstery.
This machine claims to wash better than the leading rental, which I would say is an accurate statement.
There are a lot of moving parts, consequently I am not at all surprised at how good a job it does! the rental machines are simply not as complicated or thorough!
The best news is that when you register the machine online the warranty is extended to 6 years!
The time you spend carefully reading the instructions supplied with the machine is all time well spent and will assist you greatly and help you to get the absolute best out of it.
Would I recommend it?, yes I would, if it is a carpet washer you need.
However I would not if it is a simple, general purpose vacuum cleaner you seek. HTH

I’ve done a few professional, industrial carpet cleaning jobs before, and those machines are real beasts. This Vax Platinum carpet cleaner is still heavy (you’ve been warned) but more for domestic use. That being said, it doesn’t decrease any of the power or efficiency.
It can seem daunting taking it out of the box, but it’s incredibly easy to assemble, and the instructions are clear. They’re a bit vague, however, when it comes to solution and how much to put into the tank, particularly in the case of the pre-treatment solution.
Nonetheless, trial and error makes perfect, and soon I found myself using this like any ordinary hoover, though not for the same task, obviously. I’ve tried it on two upstair landings, and a rich, red rug in our porch, and it’s warranted fantastic results, particularly in the case of the landing shown in the pictures provided. The images don’t do this thing justice. The carpet *genuinely* changed to a lighter colour – I tried to reflect this in the narrow image, but to little avail, admittedly.
I tend to be on the more generous, sparing side with treatment solution, so as not to make sure I douse carpets in the stuff. Therefore there probably wasn’t as much dirt in the dirty water tank after as there could have been. But even with fairly quick cleans on small carpets, I picked up a good third of the tank in brown, sometimes even grey-ish water. Disgusting, but a good testament to this thing’s power. The dirty water tank in the image is from one small piece of landing, no more than a few metres across on either side. Also this carpet cleaner makes future goes round the carpet easy. So if you don’t pick up all the dirt first-time round, you can just go again later!
Emptying, rinsing and cleaning this carpet cleaner out is easy, though a touch more difficult when it comes to the brush and bars of the underside. Unlike say a Dyson – which is a hoover, yes, but similar shape – the bottom has no less than ten screws to undo if you wish to change or clean your brush bar. And you’re going to want to. After only three small cleaning jobs, it was filled with hair. Then again we’ve had multiple pets which doesn’t help. And yes, this carpet cleaner really is *perfect* for households with pets.
With a quick clean, a carpet really can be clean in as little as an hour, and immediately after it doesn’t feel wet, just slightly damp at that.
The attachments; so far as the pre-treatment wand and the hose, work brilliantly. Perfect for smaller, more enclosed spaces – such as stairs – or testing a surface for cleaning before going all in. I had no trouble with getting the solution out of the cleaner, either. The triggers work perfectly. This thing moves nicely, no different to a standard hoover. The cable is also very long, and so works in very large rooms with few plug sockets.
This carpet cleaner, in short, makes an annoying, necessary, professional job turn into an easy one – not much more effort than using a vacuum cleaner, in all honesty. Blown away with this; and will be using it a lot more in the future. Next up, the stairs!

The cleaner is all packed up in a large box and only requires minimal assembly, inside the box is the cleaner, 2x 250ml bottles of Vax Platinum Professional Solution and 1x 250ml Pre-Treatment Spray, Pre-Treatment wand this allows you to spray a jet of cleaning solution directly on the stain before cleaning your carpet, long reach stretch hose and SpinScrub wash tool, attachment for hard floors, 1 extra attachment for the hand tool and storage bag.

I can only review this product on how it’s worked for me on my cream corner sofa and short pile upstairs carpet, and the results I’ve had are fantastic it obviously works but you have to put the effort in also, I used the hand SpinScrub wash tool and cleaned my sofa with it, it took me a good few hours of scrubbing and 2 full clean water tanks, it also took the following day for it to fully dry, I could see the results almost instantly and the dirty water tank speaks for itself.

I cleaned my upstairs carpet, this included the landing 3 bedrooms and the stairs, and again I was really impressed, the suction and the rotor bristles work really well, and the results are fantastic. I washed the stairs leaving the cleaner at the bottom and it stretched right to the top step, it does take that extra bit of effort with the stretch hose wanting to pull back but it can be done, the carpets were dry in a few hours with the heating on, I used the deep clean mode, I’ve yet to try just the rinse mode.

I used both 250ml cleaning solution bottles for the sofa and carpet upstairs, This will vary on how often you press the solution trigger I imagine and I must have been trigger happy.

The bottom tank is fitted in position to begin, so you will only need to remove it once you have used it for the first time, there is a knack to fitting this and it feels wrong but you have to angle it in at the bottom and then it clicks in place, I read another review saying that the tank was broke and it sounded like it was being forced in, I can understand this as I was wondering how to get it back in, if you have to force the tank then it’s in the wrong position, angle it towards you then away from you and click!

The bottom rollers are easy enough to remove for cleaning, the roller rack just pulls away and the bottom brush bar gets pulled out after removing a few screws, there is a rubber belt so be aware of this as you need to remove the plastic part then angle the bar over the clear plastic rim and pull it though the belt, it’s easy enough once you’ve done it once but the amount of dust and hair this picks up I’d say give it a clean after a full carpet clean to keep it in top shape.

It’s fairly large and heavy once the tanks are full as to be expected, the handle at the top can be removed for storage, it’s also fairly loud when on, louder than my regular hoover and I’ve not tried the hard floor attachment, for best results thoroughly hoover before using the cleaner.

Overall I’m impressed and recommend but like I said previously you have to put the effort in as it won’t do it all for you, thank you.

Now here is my full review:-
When this machine arrived I was rather surprised at just how big the box was, but then when I opened it up and assembled the machine I understood just why, the machine itself is pretty huge. The head where the brush bars and nozzle are is considerably wider than most, my old Vax washer was 24cm wide, this is 38cm, and the water tanks are pretty big too, the clean water tank holds about 3 litres. This size has its advantages, and its disadvantages, it will clean most of a reasonable size room on one refill of water, and because it is so wide it requires less passes, so is quicker than a smaller machine. On the other hand it is very awkward to pick up if you want to take it up and down stairs, and this is exacerbated by only having the one handle at the top, it needs something else to grab on to so that you can use both hands to carry it with. I found myself holding the top handle with one hand and the front of the nozzle with the other, my wife couldn’t carry it at all as her arms weren’t long enough to reach both these places.
One potential drawback to its size is getting into alcoves etc. , but fortunately it has a hose with a ‘spinscrub’ head on it, that is very effective for getting into awkward spaces, and is also great for stairs and upholstery.
How does it perform, I haven’t washed my carpets for quite a while, so I used the ‘Deep Clean’ setting and it certainly made a big difference, the carpets looked noticeably cleaner and the two types of brushes seem to have lifted the pile where it had flattened, it does use a lot of water and solution in the process though, although this did seem to vary depending on the type of carpet. In the manual it suggests that you push it forward with the trigger pulled to release the water and solution mixture and then release the trigger before you pull it back, to vacuum up the water, I found that it actually required me to go over the area at least two or three more times, very slowly to actually get as much water out of the carpet as possible.
There are a couple of other things to be aware of, firstly if you leave the machine with water in the tank, for instance to have lunch, it actually leaks quite badly, I think that it leaked about a litre of water in 30 minutes, I now take the clean water tank off when I have a break. Secondly the brushes do get rather clogged up with fluff, I know that my carpets hadn’t been cleaned for a while but in the course of doing 4 rooms I had to dismantle the brush assembly twice, and this is a rather tedious process that involves undoing 10 screws and wrangling the brush bar out of the way, cleaning it out and then reassembling it. Next, I feel that I have to mention the filter in the dirty water tank, this clogs up quite quickly, so I would suggest that you clean it out, a very simple job, each time you empty the tank, or the suction performance is severely limited.
Finally I need to say a word about solution (or detergent) the machine comes with two 250ml bottles of solution, given that it quotes a mixture rate of 40ml per litre of water, you will see that they don’t last long. As this machine uses an automatic mixing system you will need to make sure that any solution that you use needs to be mixed at the same rate as the one included, for example I bought some Vax concentrated solution, and had to dilute it by half to get the correct concentration.
So although I am aware that this review has been quite critical, this has been deliberate, this is a very expensive machine and quite a big investment, so it should be as good as possible. But I suppose that the big question is, is it worth the money? And for me the answer is yes, the cleaning capabilities and the flexibility mean that it is the best carpet washer that I have used, by quite a long way.

What a great machine and for a change thought out for a customers use..
I am so impressed with the whole overall kit they even give you a good sample of cleaning fluid.
I really like the large cleaning surface of the upright washer as it give you great coverage and the amount of brushes etc gives you a really good deep clean and how easy it was to change over to the hand held hose for the difficult areas, stains etc.
I really like The instructions, The booklet is great very comprehensive and easy to follow their are photos for every part of the assembly and working of the cleaner.
So impressed with the Assembly, so easy every things fits in with a little clip. The hardest part was turning and locking the neck into place.( I had to use a flat thick flat knife to help turn the locking bolt). To remove clean or just put away every thing again is just a simple press and remove.
I really like and found the Operation, is easy to use, the foot pedals are for easy use. It’s Easy to fill and empty and it really sucked up the waste water it didn’t take long for my carpet to dry.

Nearly did not buy this machine after reading some of the reviews, Glad I did because it did a very good job on my bedroom carpet. As for the clearing of the machine when finished , it took me all of 20 minutes without having to dismantle any parts. Can’t fathom out how one would need to remove the brushes , perfectly clean and ready to go again just by revolving the brush to remove excess fluff.
