Really useful. Prevents overwatering.
With peat free compost it is easy to overwater plants as the surface often dries out but in fact the soil beneath can be wet. I have found it very useful to check my houseplants and water them only when really needed.
Let's me know if my pots are dry
I found it very good as I was unsure if I was watering my plants enough, especially now that we have peat free compost which I think tends to dry out quicker. As instructed I wipe the wand end with a rough cloth before inserting.

Great for big patio pots
It’s easy to feel whether a small/medium size pot needs watering, but for a big patio pot that’s maybe 12″ high, the top maybe wet, but not the deeper soil around the roots. This gadget is great for all sizes, including indoor plants.

Absolutely brilliant very accurate and easy to use used to stick the old finger in to see if the soil was dry it and miss but this little gadget perfect I have a lot of hardy fuchsias thirsty little things but with this little soil tester happy days

Saved my plants!
My plants will no longer be accidentally killed due to overwatering. I place this hygrometer in the soil of all my plant pots once a week to check if the plants need watering.

Best item I’ve ever brought. Having a garden covered in gravel it has been invaluable to be able to find out whether the shrubs need watering without seeing the soil. As a person who quite often overwaters plants it also saves a lot of time as I don’t have to water all the plants all of the time. And it is very easy to use.

This is a standard meter that does what it says on the description . Useful for comparative measurements to gauge be an indication of moisture level.
Works well with my. Acti and succulents that are potted in specialist compost/ grit mixture .

I have a large indoor plant in a fairly small pot, and it is almost impossible to stick my finger into the soil to test the dampness.

This is great, works really well in deciding when you need to water your plants. It works off the current in the soil so doesn’t need batteries. It gives a good reading as to how dry or moist the soil is so if you have plants that require different amounts you can tailor your watering.
Received this yesterday and try it out this morning, Monday is my day for watering my houseplants with rainwater that I collect from the rain butt, that I have stored in the utility so it’s room temperature. Watering all the plants will take over 2 and a half hours. Today I’ve only got 2 plants to water. Lovely not having to stick your finger into the soil and it gives you a better view of the plants need for hydration. Also saved myself a couple of hours work.
HOW DEEP TO TO INSERT THE SHAFT ??? ** AND ** HOW LONG TO GET A READING ??? !!!
This is the 2nd meter I’ve purchased. It says ‘don’t leave in for more than an hour’. It DOESN’T say take reading after a few minutes. I returned the previous one [DIFFERENT MAKE] as “faulty” > > reading ‘very dry’ whatever the moisture. I thought it had to be inserted its full length & left it in for some time. LIVE & LEARN !!
Reliable - so far.
Only had a week or so. We have used it to test soil moisture on 20 newly planted evergreen shrubs. As they cost over 200 and the need to keep well watered during the first year I thought, after reading the reviews to try this product. If it keeps working it will be the first one to do so.
This help in not overwatering potted plants.
I have to be careful not to hit anything hard when putting it into soil. It should go in a maximum of 6″ to give a fairly accurate reading. Rain does not water small pots much at all as soon dry out.
Really helpful to avoid stressing plants when too dry or waterlogged.
My plants are happy
I don’t have particularly green fingers but generally manage to get by without my houseplants suffering too much. However as their pot sizes have increased I found it more difficult to regulate watering and a couple of them started showing signs of stress. I bought this wonderful, plant life-saving, device and all is now well. So simple to use and clear to read. I now get a clear reading on how wet the soil is deep in the pot and can water, or not, based on that rather than what the surface of soil is like. I think this little device has saved a number of my plants. Well worth the money. Highly recommend.
Useful tool
I found this very useful to quickly go around my houseplants and see which ones needed watering, instead of just watering everything in sight and consequently overwatering some.
Easy to read, quite a big spike for small pots but very pleased overall.
The old “broken” meter I was replacing had 2 prongs, which were a bit awkward to use in Pots that had decorative chippings on top. This single pronged one is soo much easier to use.
My old one was easy to switch off by accident – this one does not have on/off, so issue gone.
Note – this is a single function item – which works better for me. But some alternatives you can buy also have a PH tester functionality in the same device.

I love this device- finally I am watering my plants correctly. I realized that I have been watering them too much and this product helped me realize that. Now I check humidity level each week and water the plants accordingly. Great value for the money.
My garden is mainly containers of which I have about 40 and I have always watered them all at once whenever they seemed dry. Imagine my surprise when I used this to find that some of them were really wet underneath, some slightly moist and some really dry. This means less time spent watering plants that don’t need it. I’m really loving this moisture meter. I’m like a kid with a new toy

I have lost a couple of outdoor potted plants already this year after bringing them home from the garden centre, one in less than a week. I also tried sewing some seeds – out of a whole packet, only one survives (just). I also plan to take cuttings but fear them all dying on me. The reason? I believe I over watered them.
My extra long moisture meter (it’s really not that long) arrived the next day and I put it to work immediately, that one surviving plant is on the low side of wet yet on the top it looks like it needs watering.
Outside I currently have nearly 30 pots and hanging baskets, I’ve tested them all and only 4 need water.
This meter is going to save my plants dying from over watering, save money on my water bill and make watering my outdoor pots less of a chore because I won’t be out there watering every one thoroughly every other day or two. Only the ones that need it will be watered.
Also I feel more confident in growing seeds and taking cuttings, so it’ll save me money on plants as hopefully I won’t need to buy more at the garden centre.
What’s not to like ? I’m going to purchase the smaller moisture meter to keep indoors (and I don’t even have shares in the company).
