What to consider when buying a nightlatch
Which size do I need?
Yale Nightlatches come in two different backset sizes that fit different door types.
Make sure you measure the door before you purchase one. The backset on a night latch is the distance from the centre of the keyhole to the edge of your door.

- Standard width for solid doors – 60 mm;

Purchased to replace front door lock, I have a small door so perfect for my needs.

Very easy to install – half the price that any of the high street retailers charge!
Obviously this is a very basic lock but it does the job. Ironically I found it more difficult to install than the much higher grade locks, particularly hard to mount it straight, but it does the job ok. I had to replace a British standard rated lock because it was causing difficulty with my Yale keyless smart lock on an outward opening glass door. Modifying the lock to open outward was annoying and the receiver is then useless. I would only recommend this lock for where you require minimal security on an inward opening door.
That said, it’s really easy to operate and relatively ergonomic, it’s just that you can get a MUCH better lock for the money even within the Yale range so it’s a very specific item. I wish it was easier to find an outward opening variant of it as it was a pain to modify compared to the very heavy 120 lock it replaced.
As a locksmith I fit a lot of locks. And can’t go wrong with Yale.

Excellent lock, and reversible (which is what I did). Not all locks can do this, but this is a breeze to do. – took me less than five minutes. Good sturdy lock when fitted.
This nightlatch is the perfect solution if you want a latch for use in a tight or restricted area.
An example of this is if you have a ‘barn door’ style front door where the back of the door isn’t flush with the frame but the wooden battens are.
You only need about 60mm width to install and the 40mm edge of door to key hold is the right distance for such doors.
The quality is excellent and I’m not DIY’er but managed to install it easily.
Tools: a 32mm wood boring hole, screwdriver and possibly a chisel.
Good, sturdy and a good solution for a shut-and-forget door locking solution.
Exactly as described and offering just what I needed as it does not have a deadlock function. I had found this version difficult to source locally.
I needed this for a communal entrance door and didn’t want anyone to be able to accidentally deadlock it from outside (locking all the residents in), as happened with existing lock.
