Which size do I need?
Yale Nightlatches come in two different backset sizes that fit different door types.
Make sure you measure the door before you purchase one. The backset on a night latch is the distance from the centre of the keyhole to the edge of your door.

I used the barrell from the old lock so didn’t even need to refresh the multiple family keys! The existing lock was 20 years old so was getting temperamental! Found this Yale replacement – direct swap – old lock barrel used – same screw holes even. Rejuvenated using side gate now!
Product a little fiddly to install. But works fine. I needed to use two larger screws because the lock was put in the exact spot where an old lock already left screw holes in the door wood. So that the same holes no longer gripped the small screws supplied.
Super easy, no need to pay a locksmith. Very happy
The description does not state that this is intended for inward opening doors.
However, I put my engineer’s head on and managed to reverse the internal bolt.
A good quality item let down by terrible screws. As expected from a Yale product, the lock itself is very good, it feels well-made, robust and secure. The installation isn’t even that difficult (plenty of videos on YouTube). The main thing that lowers the rating of this item for me is the terrible quality of screws that were provided. They are flat headed screws and easily rounded off or became sharp edged on first use. Save yourself the bother of using them and grab some of your own (same sized) cross-headed screws. They are much easier to drive in and will save you from effing and jeffing!
I am by no means a locksmith or very handy around the house when it comes to DIY to be honest but this was a breeze to fit.
The latch broke on our previous lock and this took less than five minutes to install
As our previous lock was the same size (also yale) I just kept the face plate attached to the door and fitted the block to that, this means that we also kept the lock barrel so no need to change keys.
Even if you wanted to fit this lock as well as a barrel and new keys it wouldn’t take long at all.

The lock was slightly larger than the lock being replaced. Therefore, the main hole through the door had to be moved (re-cut). Even this was quite simple with the step by step instructions. In the end, a good job.
My only beef would be, keys. The lock comes with two. As my household numbers four, two more keys were needed. I would normally pay 10 for two keys. These, however, cost 18 for two. The reason, apparently, is Yale have patented the keys. So, the locksmith has to use blanks that you can only get from Yale. Obviously at an extortionate rate.
If I have been given false information on this, please let me know. It took the guy less than a minute to cut both keys. What is the profit margin on these!?

Good old fasion Yale lock. Just be sure to swap spring / mechanism around if using on an outward opening door.

The Yale lock is fine, decent quality, fair price. The reason I’m really posting is because I’ve read some negative reviews claiming you can’t get extra keys cut. This is absolute BS!! Getting copies made is no problem what-so-ever. False claims like these should be removed.
Bought for my garage door but didn’t think about reading up on what way the door opens and this lock is for an inward opening door. The instructions say not to open it and it’s not possible to convert the lock, though if you have the patience, understand basic mechanical stuff, springs and levers it is possible. Just don’t expect any warranty if you open it up.
Ok so some people mentioned on the reviews that it is not possible to reverse the locking mechanism and use this lock for outward opening doors. This is not true, it is very VERY easy to reverse the mechanism for outward opening. All you need to do is remove the 2 screws and plate from the back, carefully remove the spring, flip over the mechanism, re-insert the spring and screw back together! Takes just a few short minutes.
The striking plate is a slitely different story, it is designed for inward opening to be honest, however for my garage it was not a problem having this plate backwards anyhow… works just as good no issues but aesthetically I can see an argument with this, so either you can buy a standard striking plate or find a reverse purposed one if desired.
Ultimately it is more than possible to use this kit on an outwards opening door with very little hassle.

I replaced my old lock with this model and it is much smoother in use only taking very gentle pressure to close the door securely.
This replaced a thirty five year old lock and nearly all of the dimensions are the same. Just goes to show that a great design, good materials result i na prodcut that lasts.
The last one lasted for 25 years, and still going although a little ‘off’. Hopefully, another decade+ for this one. Speedy delivery too.

I installed this on an outbuilding door and bought a reverse striker plate separately so that I could have the door opening outwards (the normal striker plate is for opening inwards).

Excellent lock and with a bit of adjustment on the door edge I was able to fit myself without calling a locksmith.
Double lock feature is great, self latch is great incase you forget to lock other security features on your door.
Should be used in conjunction with a 5 lever deadbolt for maximum protection and probably to comply with houshold insurance requirements.
Beware if using on doors opening onto an enclosed porche, self latch could lock you in the porch if you do not have your keys and pull the door closed, this happened to my elderly mother.
Great product though if you use the double lock function at all times, as without there are ways of opening these without a key!! Unless doublelocked.
gute ,einfache montage. funktion und mechanismus funktionieren gut. habe 4 stk montiert vor 2 monaten. alles funktioniert gut. bischen probleme und man lsst schluessel nachmachen. sind als rohlinge wohl ausgelaufen in der produktion. das schloss liefern mit 4 stk schluesseln whre optimal.

I bought this to replace the same, this one had few mms extra which gave more mms holding of the actual metal that fits into the side part which is what the problem was, ie latch not catching/meeting any more due to door movement.

If instead you need a lock replacement for cylinders that are located 400 mm from the door edge to centre then you should purchase the Yale p85 Lock, the only only bad point is that it is a little fiddly to install.

Got this because someone had used a card to get in my flat, this dead locks from the inside and the outside with an extra turn off the key meaning no card can open it. This has given me great peace of mind as I can leave my flat and know it’s secure. Don’t hesitate if your trading this just buy it it’s worth it.
A simply styled, robust, and well-made lock. You can deadlock it from the outside by turning the key to the left. The only thing I’d fault is that it comes with only two keys, which isn’t going to be enough for anybody – they ought to throw in a couple of extras, it’d add nothing to the manufacturing cost.
