YI Home 1080P Security Camera Twin-pack, WiFi Indoor IP Camera with Night Vision, Motion Detection, 2-way audio, Home Security Surveillance System for House/Office/Pet/Baby/Elder/Remote Monitor(2 pcs)
YI HOME CAMERA 1080P AI +: YOUR SMART, MULTI-PURPOSE SECURITY SOLUTION
Whether you want to monitor your home or business, keep an eye on your kids or parents or make sure your cute pets are behaving while you’re away, YI Home Camera 1080 AI + is with no doubt the right solution for you!
First of all, thanks to the integrated SenseLab chip of artificial intelligence, YI Home Camera 1080p AI + can detect humans in motion and distinguish them from other motions such as flying insects, small pets, or light changes. The advanced built-in sound algorithms also make the camera able to detect sounds between 50 and over 90 decibels (adjustable), such as a fire alarm, a window breaking, or people talking in a medium to loud voice. In both cases, the camera will send timely activity alerts (with adjustable frequency and sensitivity) straight to the smartphone, together with a 6-second video of the detected activity, which can be accessed and visualized directly from the dedicated YI Home app.
The YI Home Camera 1080p AI + can transmit real-time footage of the monitored area in a clear and crisp Full HD resolution directly from the YI Home app. And thanks to the 110 ° wide-angle, the 4x digital zoom, and the non-invasive night vision (with 8 infrared LED lights not visible in the dark), you will never miss any detail, no matter day or night.
It seems incredible but these (and many other) functions are all enclosed in a peculiar, minimalist, sleek design of pocket-sized dimensions (only 12 cm in length for 120 grams of weight!) that sets YI Home Camera 1080p AI + apart from all the others indoor cameras out there.
And don’t forget that, like all other YI cameras, YI Home Camera 1080p AI + supports YI Cloud storage with secure end-to-end encryption, to always keep your videos safe from loss, theft, or damage in full respect of the user’s privacy.
Stay safe, stay connected with YI Technology!
AI-POWERED HUMAN DETECTION
The integrated SenseLab chip’s artificial intelligence allows the YI Home Camera 1080p AI + to detect humans in motion at up to 20fps. At the same time, the camera will send timely activity alerts straight to your smartphone, accompanied by a proper 6-second video of the detected motion.

Simple set up
Long wire and plug supplied
Excellent packaging and robust
You don’t have to subscribe to online systems just purchase a micro SD card
Haven’t had any issues with logging etc
The intercom function is excellent
These have been used in conjunction with existing CCTV system where there are black spots.
Can’t recommend enough!
The product led me to think that to watch playback you needed a subscription but I was wrong. It was just trying really hard to get me to sign up, but unless I’ve signed up by accident, I’m watching pretty good video quality of the events of the day.
Pros: inexpensive device to give additional peace of mind, range of view is good considering how small it is. Image quality is great but not amazing, obviously affected by light in the room. Easy to set up and connect to wifi and will send alerts as set up. Audio is good both ways. Would recommend as quite handy.
Cons: detects bugs as humans so I’m getting a lot of alerts. Would be great if it had a pet feature too! Deducted a star as the SD card set up is a bit tricky and doesn’t really work that great. I have an SD and followed a guide but when I try to review a clip, it says not saved? Would work best with a KAMI acct apparently but I don’t want another monthly subscription.
Got this camera to use indoors. Have an outdoor one that works great. I use them both with a storage card and they record fine. Wish you could get rid of the Kami storage icon as I have no intention of using it. They work fine away from home on my mobile phone. I think they are great cameras for the price.
We have 4 places around our property. 3 on the perimeter and 1 we use as a pet cam inside. So simple and easy to set up. The app is so easy to use to adjust the setting to get want you need.
Cables are a bit short, be careful if you try to get extra long ones as the cameras are quite powerful and not all extensions will work.
You can set them up for home or away and you can communicate through the camera and they send an alarm if they pickup movement and sound
Brilliant value for the picture you get, just a heads up that you should buy an SD card alongside it if you want to save anything
These are great. I get notifications for movement and the sound and picture is very good, both day and night.
Great little camera bought it to watch my puppy. Vision excellent however volume not great!
Really impressed by the picture quality of these. From 50ft, through glass, the images are clear. Night vision works well although this is really not good through glass. These are indoor devices and so aren’t really designed to operate that way, but … mine do”ok” The motion detector is great. I feel safer knowing that I’ll be alerted if anyone enters the perimeter of my home. Really pleased with these. Very easy to set up and use. Internal storage of video is via a micro SD card, bought separately. The device is also compatible with Alexa.
Still setting these up,
Takes a little time to work out the settings
The most disappointing thing is that you have to purchase a Kami Cloud account 80 minimum to use multiple cameras or smart detection such as motion/person/noise alerts
Super stuff for a super price! Easy set-up and everything works just as described. I’ve take 2 photos both at night as I forgot too during daylight hours but the camera is bang-on good! First picture is blurry due to the front camera light reflection from the window, second picture I had a back ground light on in the room and this seemed to help make for a clear picture! All I can say is great bit of kit and definitely great for indoors but you may have problems with reflections if pointing camera out window at night, during there day is no problems. Only had this camera for a few hours so maybe another way around the problem so will keep update.
Good looking, camera works well detection is good. However, you have to shout to get any volume when using the two way microphone.
I bought this camera to use as a night monitor for my 2 year olds room, for that it works well, although the sound/baby crying detection doesn’t seem to work very well. 2-way audio is a useful feature.
I’ve seen a lot of reviews saying they can’t connect it with Alexa, an issue I also found after downloaded the YI app and YI skill on my Echo Show. I eventually got it working by using the Kami Home app and skill instead- now the Echo Show will display the camera. Worth trying.
Overall, it’s a decent camera and if you can get Alexa integration working then it’s even more useful. It’s not the best around, but for the price it’s a good purchase.
Bought for puppy so we could check on her when out and about.
The price was amazing and what you get would highly recommend.
You download the app and then just click on to watch. Option to talk to pet but havnt used this for pet but occasionally use it to talk to the kids when they don’t know I’m checking the camera! Ha ha.
The picture quality is excellent in the light but you need a light on in evening to see clearly.
Would definitely recommend. We are looking at getting a second one.
Brilliant cameras work well. My only issue is the length of the cable or the lack of it.
I even purchased a longer lead that said it was compatible.
When it arrived it never worked.
I have no idea where to get longer power leads from.
Other than cameras are good
Great camera and works as expected. However connection can play up sometimes
Can’t go wrong with these. I’ve had 3 at a holiday home abroad for 3 years & they’ve never failed. I use the SD card and not four storage. At the time of writing (Sept 21) there are complaints about the removal of historic SD card activity, landscape viewing and lack of time stamping on live view. Having checked my the recently updated app these are all resolved and working well. These are the best bang for buck cameras on the market in my opinion and I have tried a few brands.
ow, this camera is decent, it really is.
this is just my experience, those who are more knowledgeable will do better, those who aren’t might complain.
in the beginning, with all new gadgets/etc, there’s a honeymoon phase, everything is exciting and you’re glad to have attained said item, i was.
having used it for a while, with no real nor desperate need for it; it’s okay, it’s pretty exciting, very good, new and flashy.
easy setup, simple enough to feel very happy with said new purchase rather than a “oh what have i bought now?!” type of moment.
first few days/weeks to months, of usage, it seems very handy, a welcome addition to daily life.
we bought this camera without desperation, but for sensibility.
the 6 second clips, with activity (motion/person) detection on, it’s intriguing to say the least. very, very good overall.
i would turn off the infrared light if you’re using it to point outward through a double glazed window, like we are.
i personally, am a stay at home person, i felt relief through having this gadget, i could share the live camera stream to my partner whom is at work through the day, lovely jubbly.
it’s only until my local council’s binman decides not to take my recycling bin, that i find some questions coming up.
seeing only 6 seconds unless you subscribe to “kami” cloud, i’d realised that the camera wasn’t recording 24/7, but only keeping 6 second clips, for a fair amount of time i’ll admit, quite good to be fair.
although, right now, after scouring the questions and answers on this product am i disabling certain settings to see if i can record 24/7 rather than receiving the shorts.
having looked, not many an answer truly remedies my conundrum.
fret not, i’m not a plaintiff, still so very happy with the new technology i didn’t have before.
if you’re new to cameras, it’s a good product to start with, especially so if you’ve no need for one but would like one.
if you have sound detection on, my camera being placed in the living room, on the windowsill outwards, facing the street, it happily picks up my dreadful singing in the kitchen which is right next to the room it lives in. so if using for parenting reasons, it’s a clever gadget to have, don’t quote me though as we are all of different opinion on what’s decent or not.
again, no real need, but helps with pesky door knockers and watches over our beloved car.
it does it’s job honestly, just read the descriptions, reviews and questions/answers, you should be happy as larry.
The whole range of Yi cameras are superb! I have bought seven and they are dotted around the house. I even have one pointed at the Hedgehog House and another at the Hogs feeding station. I even have Hedgehog Films from the Yi cameras on YouTube! Being able to record any length of footage onto the separately purchased SD card is brilliant!
The price is amazingly good value!
But, but, oh dear!
They updated the app to force you now to take out a cloud subscription, it’s almost like, in my opinion, blackmail!
These people are in my opinion, disrespectful of their existing customers, they are in my opinion dishonourable, so I would respectfully suggest you do not buy any of there products.
Night visions good
Quality during day is good
I dont like the app cause playback is annoying
Great camera really
Like the price for the item and also helps to monitor toddler sleep. Good quality but not a great quality. Zoom in and zoom out, too much zoom in makes picture blur but never mind as it’s covers my toddler sleep monitor.
Good points:
– Picture is good, and the night vision is actually very impressive
– Setup was easy and painless, a well designed process
– PC app available to view camera, again very simple and easy process
Less good:
– Doesnt do well with weak wifi signals… I set up in my workshop with automation tools running to keep an eye on them. Other devices connect to the wifi fine, well mostly, but this camera struggles to maintain a strong connection. And if it disconnects it seems to just give up trying to connect – I’ve had to buy and install a wifi signal booster to keep it online.
– PC app requires log in each time you load it up, and sends a notification to the phone when you do log in. Kinda over the top, with no setting to log in automatically. Not a big deal, can leave it running on my desktop, but an annoyance. Security is not a concern for some people, honestly I’d like to just be able to tap in an IP address in the browser, but hey.
In all, good value for money, well made.
I am not very technical at all and following instructions bores me to tears, however I found these cameras really easy to set up and was up and running within 20 mins. Camera quality is good, cameras are small light and can be attached to the window frame or sat on a solid base. They do need to be plugged in all the time though, unlike some which are charged, so if you don’t have a plug nearby your desired location, give them a miss. So far I’m happy with my purchase. Connect to WiFi. I did purchase the sd card to go with it but I’m not sure I will use it as I’m happy with the alerts rather than video 24/7. If someone approaches my property, it alerts me and does a short 6 second video and this is saved to my phone photos.
I have Yi dome camera in a central position covering my longe dining room and conservatory and through a doorway into my kitchen. It works an absolute treat. I can monitor these areas when I’m away from home and it alerts me when someone like my son comes in whilst we are away, and we sometimes have a two way chat via the camera. I wanted another camera to cover my back garden as I back onto woodland and I’m always worried that someone will one day attempt to get in from over the back. I didn’t want the hassle of fitting an external camera which requires drilling a hole for the power so I fixed this one to the glass on the inside of my utility room. I now have a panoramic view of my back garden and yes it detects humans and alerts you, thankfully only my wife hanging out the washing mostly. I have left the quite bright blue power light on, to deter anyone peering over the back fence, especially at night. Only downside is that I have had to turn the infra red lights off as this reflects off the glass but I have PIR lights over the back and achieve a very good picture when those detect movement and light up the garden. A grey but still clear picture is seen without any lighting so its got excellent night vision anyway. There has been a couple of random false notifications, two large wood pigeons and during a bit of a gale the waving apple tree was detected as a human, but this has been minimal. I used some clear double sided tape to fix the base to the glass, shame it wasnt a suction base. A tube of cardboard between the lens and glass will eliminate the slight reflections from the curtain net at certain times of the day if you are ultra fussy, but it isnt essential. A potential burglar would have to break the window to compromise the camera which should alert the neighbour and I haven’t got the worry of weather affecting an externally placed one. I’m very pleased with my quick and simple and very inexpensive CCTV alarm system. The short 60 second clips are ideal to download but you can subscribe to cloud storage. I installed a 32 Gb card.
Pros: small so isn’t taking up too much space on the windowsill. I can choose how often I want notifications or set a time period where I get notifications. You can set the area where it picks up movement. App is easy to use. Good camera for the price.
Cons: you only get a 6 second clip of the movement unless you subscribe to a package which is about 4.50+ a month.
The night vision mode isn’t very good but I’ve put a security light outside to help that.
Not wanting or needing high security, we have little to protect, I ordered this as an economic and simple precaution. It senses a person approaching the property, notifies me via my phone and takes a short recording. The length of the recording can be increased, but that costs more. The pictures are good quality and the person recorded pretty recognisable. I believe it to be excellent value and a useful crime prevention tool. Given the price, better then expected.
IR light is short range and isn’t effective looking out of a window. The sound detection is triggered by its own click moving from day to night. Motion detection is indiscriminate, tree, bird, ball etc. 4 digit pin is weak security.
Images are clear and camera is easy to setup. Old style USB for power. Cams each need an sd card to save footage or get ripped by cloud sub.
App is simple but sluggish at times.
It works, simple to setup, decent quality for the price.
Well due to numerous youths hanging around I decided to get these home cameras. Vision, noise detection all great. Instructions are simple enough to follow. Downside is you have to have it plugged into the mains for it to work!! So that limits you to where you can put it.
Very smart looking camera. Easy to set up! I purchased a SD card to prevent having to pay for a subscription. Its only been set up for a day but I’m happy with it. The app is pretty simple to use although I was lost on how to constantly record but with the help of YouTube this was figured out rather quickly. The picture quality is better then the cameras I had which I paid a lot more for so thats a plus. You can speak through them so if my teens are home alone and don’t tidy up after themselves I can catch them red handed and speak to them though the camera lol. For the price I am more then happy with this. I will buy a new one for spares. Thank you!!
EDIT: I seen there was one camera left so I’ve just purchased it for another room. Very impressed with this brand so far and hopefully will be for the foreseeable future too. Highly recommend
I bought this to keep an eye on elderly parents with a 2 way speaker. Well made camera from a good company that will take 64gb micro SD card. It got a good wide view, nice sharp picture and night vision can be switched off in app. The camera is well made but this model don’t pan around however the view is nice and wide. It is made for indoors use so not weather tight. The app is really well designed and it will high light in red any movement or loud noise in the timeline. Very easy to setup which I find a pain with other cameras of this type. Well worth a try
I was sceptical when I ordered this but I’ll list how my worries we’re not valid, in case you had the same worries.
– no hub needed, you can manage everything from your smartphone.
– no SD card needed, you can save directly to your phones memory if recording live. If not recording live and you are busy, then it will record free 6 seconds clips of the cause of your motion detector in the camera being activated.
The free alerts you can setup in the app are amazing, setting sensitivity, area for motion detector to monitor when you are away etc.
My favourite thing is the fact you can use the camera as an intercom. The quality of true picture is really really crisp.
Definitely worth the purchase. Thank you.
For the price, this is an awesome little camera. Good quality picture, night visions not too bad, sound is good, alerts could be improved upon – such as; I put one in my window, so I can see whose at the door and sometimes it just doesn’t capture someone coming right up to my door, which is a bit worrying, but it’ll record like a bird or a bus. But, most of the time, it’s ok. It only records 6second clips, after that you have to pay. But at least it’s somewhat free – some cameras you have no choice but to pay a subscription. I can also do my shopping in Asda and then look on the app on my phone to see if there’s any parking at home
So overall, very happy, especially for the price.
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting a lot from this camera considering the price.
Well I’ve been amazed and most definitely proved wrong. The ease of setting it up couldn’t have been easier, so simple if you follow the instructions which are emailed direct to you. The fact that it has two way sound is brilliant.
The night vision is amazingly clear, and daytime is pin sharp. My only gripe is the cost of the optional cloud storage which in my opinion is excessive, but please remember this is optional and not essential as the memory card is more than ample. My overall major plus for this camera is that it is motion detection which is sent directly to my phone.
To sum up, considering the price this little camera scores a top 5/5 and 100% recommended if you are considering a cctv camera.
In itself it’s a good product; quick and easy to connect and you can easily connect multiple cameras in various locations. However, there is a pause between the moment someone walks past the camera and the notification in your app. That pause is just long enough for the ‘burglar’ to cross some 3, 4 yards, unplug the device and then you won’t receive an alarm. I tested this myself. So make sure you place the camera where it is not spotted immediately and you’ll be fine.
What I don’t like is that you only get 6 second clips when there is a motion detection, barely enough time to see who walks past. If you want longer clips, you’ll have to take out a subscription from the manufacturer.
One other thing: don’t use its most sensitive setting or you’ll receive too many alarms, especially when the room is dark. I’ve been woken up in the middle of the night, my heart racing, only to see absolutely nothing on the camera. It seems that the night vision is overly sensitive. So I’ve now set it to medium and had no problem since.
Great camera! You have to download an app on your phone to watch the footage. It only records and stores 6 second clips and if you want to record and store more you have to pay monthly, so not great if you are using the cameras for security. It’s perfect for when i’m at work and can view my dog anytime, so no need to record to be honest! You can speak and move the camera around. Works great with a second camera as well so you can see from different angles. Great value for money, a lot of cameras like this are very expensive! Does the job and for roughly 20 you can’t go wrong!!
I’ve updated the review due an issue with connecting to WiFi. Whilst is was very frustrating, the customer service received was above excellent, very prompt replies and a number of of possible fixes to solve the problem. Sadly none worked. They have very kindly sent me a replacement. The whole process was the kind of customer service you want, 6 star . Resolved within a week.
Actually found this small camera of excellent value. Super picture quality on HD and easy to set up. Works great with Alexa Show, so if you are upstairs in bed, ask Alexa to show the camera.
Motion detector is very sensitive and picks up movement well , not used the audio properly however does work nicely .
Will buy more and hopefully the Outside wireless one. Waiting for the sales
We have tried other cameras, but these are so easy to set up and easy to use, especially when compared to other brands. Just follow the instructions, exactly as written and you are up and working in minutes. What is more it is easy to share use of the cameras by clicking on the camera and pressing share. You can simply whatsapp the code for scanning.
We use them for all the rooms downstairs in my mother’s house so that we can check on her when we have to leave her on her own – she has dementia. You can even talk through them, though we haven’t done that yet as it might confuse her! However, if we needed to talk to her in an emergency and she couldn’t get to the phone, these cameras would work well. You can also record the footage, which was useful as evidence when a carer was neglecting my mother – no better evidence.
We had one camera and then added two more – again easy to do. They can all be viewed via one app on your mobile phone.
Simple and efficient!
I’ve already got the Yi outdoor camera and 3 of the Yi Dome cameras. I bought this one for my parents and it’s also excellent value. They use it as a baby monitor, and it’s ideal for placing on a shelf as it can be swivelled to point downwards.
The picture quality is good, like the other Yi cameras I have. I like all the Yi cameras because they let you put a memory card in to record, and also give you 6 seconds of cloud storage when a movement notification is triggered for free. They offer paid subscriptions for further cloud storage but I’ve never seen the need for this. The app is a bit glitchy – after clicking to view a camera I frequently have to click back and then click on it a second time for it to actually load, but I’m used to this now so not too bothered.
I have been looking for home cameras for a very long time, and always find super expensive and complicated ones. Thanks to amazon recommendations, I came across this product. It’s worth take the time to read the previous reviews and understanding how this works, and others’ experiences before purchasing. I decided to get this camera, and I was not disappointed! It exceeded my expectations, especially the fact that it’s so affordable!!
-It took me 5 min to set up both cameras, and about 15 min to get used to the app and its functions. It’s very simple and quick to get used to.
-The picture quality is great; but it may not be the best when faced in direct sunlight so positioning the camera at the right angle is key as there will be times during the day when the sunlight may blur the image. But luckily, this only lasts if the camera is facing the sunrise/sunset.
-Night vision is good, very clear. Sometimes it does appear to switch between night vision to normal if it picks up any form of light from somewhere, but this only lasts a few seconds before it realises it’s still night.
-The motion detection works well, a little too well even! Any little motion, it’ll capture: however the good thing is that it won’t constantly be sending you notifications at every little motion it detects, so it won’t bother you. Which now leads me on to the notifications itself.
-Instantly sends notifs to your phone when it detects movement, however, if your phone is on silent you won’t even know about the notifs as the app cannot override the phone’s setting, as some other camera apps do. Once you hear the notif you can instantly view this on your phone for 6s, or longer by simply clicking on ‘complete video’. It automatically saves, and you can download this to your phone or delete at any time.
-You don’t need to buy Icloud to save the footage, unlike some of the more expensive cameras. You can just buy an SD card and whatever you save will remain on the SD card. Once full, just delete at your leisure.
-The thing I love the most about this, is it constantly records, which means even if you don’t receive a notification for movement in your designated area, it still detects any motion therefore you can always go back hours / days and view anyone/anything walking past your house! I also love the fact that you have a two way conversation on it (useful when I want to scare my partner!)
Overall, an amazing product, extremely worth the price, and definitely recommend if you want that extra peace of mind. There are more expensive and fancy ones, which van give more options / visuals etc, but this does the job just as good!
I have this set up at my window to cover the outside of my house at the front. It works brilliant. Just make sure you turn the night vision off(AR light I think). I have it set up in my bedroom window. I have a memory card in it, which works well, but I chose to sign up for the cloud option. 7.99 a month. I think it’s good value for money.
Really good cheap camera. Picture quality could be better but you get what you pay for. Has motion and sound detection and can differentiate between Human detected or noises coming from pet. The app is helpful you don’t need to buy storage if you don’t want to, you can get notifications for every abnormal sound or movement and you can set the decibel level so you don’t get a notification every 2 seconds. Very easy to set up.
(Deducted a star for picture quality, especially the night vision which is not great)
Its okay, I’m using to film outside at a window for my car. Its not great visibility on poor foggy, misty days really but that could be down to moisture on my window. Other days is great. It is sensitive and on windy days the activity level is alot down to tree movement etc.
I didnt subscribe to membership as you have to pay more for this.
The camera is cost effective and I can be assured when I go out I can keep an eye out.
I guess more piece if mind!
The is a good indoor camera for the money. Yi’s app works well and you have cloud options which cost a monthly fee if you desire or you can install an sd card into the camera for local recording while movement is detected which is what I do.
Image quality is good and night vision is acceptable, there is no apparent wall mount but if you pierce the sticker on the bottom there is in fact a hole that the camera can be hung from a screw with!
I use a lot of Yi cameras now and I will continue to use them.
These are truly fantastic. I bought one of the originals (720p) many years ago for my garage and it’s still going strong.
This one I bought to use as a baby monitor. We have a very expensive baby monitor with video and app modes. It fails all the time and is pretty much useless.
This latest camera sits next to the baby monitor and works perfectly with both noise and motion detection.
You don’t need a subscription to use these cameras and can add a micro sd for longer recordings.
The app works perfectly on apple devices and is installed on 4 different devices we own.
I’m looking forward to buying Yi’s outdoor camera next.
Easy to set up and control from the YI app. The Home and Away feature of the app is useful to prevent getting constant notifications when moving around the house, would definitely recommend using that feature. The night vision picture quality is good and changes over automatically when light drops too low for daytime footage. Make sure you check the camera position doesn’t leave too much of a bright reflection from the infrared on the surrounding furniture etc (check live view in app when night vision) – not a negative of the camera, I just found this caused some flickering of the footage as the camera struggled to work out if day or night as a result. Moving the camera to reduce this bright reflection solved this and no more footage flicker. Well worth the money.
I was a little concerned having read some reviews that I may have had to turn the 5ghz network off on my BT 6 router prior to connecting. There wasn’t any issue at all, easily found the network and connected.
Picture is good, night vision clear. Interestingly the lens rotates to “straighten” the picture. As I has this on a slightly sloping surface it worked well.
The motion detection had a slight delay but that’s not at at all an unusual finding on cameras. Iverall very happy
Excellent little camera for the price! Needed these as away from home sometimes and simply wanted to check the house was OK when not there, they are ideal for this purpose. Only thing to bear in mind is you’ll need a plug socket near the mounting point. I like the fact it saves a 6 second clip without any charge and that you can simply insert a memory card to record footage (not included) the footage is not 4k quality of course but 1080p is adequate and even the night vision is pretty good. For the price I don’t think these are perfect.
The camera is excellent and covers a space approximately 7 foot wide. It’s perfect for what we need and automatically changes to night vision which is extremely clear view.
The only thing I would say before purchasing is to make sure you have a device where your display settings can be set to permanently on. This app doesnt work with a locked screen. (we use a laptop to keep an eye on our puppy over night and its brilliant)
Haven’t used the motion detection so cant comment on that.
We also haven’t signed up for cloud storage as we dont need it. But if you want to be able to save recordings, this is something you need to do. Although it’s only 3.99 a month.
Good product for us to be used as a monitor. I was expecting less because of the price, so very happy with the purchase.
I can say I became an expert in indoor camera as i have dozen at home. I wanted to update all cameras at home and use one software/brand.
After using couple of days.
Pros:
Good night vision.
Good quality of pictures.
Easy setup.
Cons:
Video recording is very gigantic in term of MB.
Camera getting a bit hotter.
PC software need a bit of refreshment. Would be better to view the camera in the browser.
Really good well priced little camera. I got it as a “Grannie watch” camera. I’ve got it placed so my mother triggers it when she passes, just for peace of mind that she’s OK, perfect! Also useful in a nursery to check the little one is OK.
I use an SD card so movement is stored, no need for an expensive plan.
I have one at home that I use through the window. I have the IR light turned off so there’s no reflection on the glass, I live on a main road so there’s plenty of light from the street lights for a clear picture. If you use it somewhere remote, the picture won’t be so good. Using it indoors of course you can use the IR light and the picture is great.
The camera’s are great quality for the price that they are, HD video feedback which easily detects people both during the day and at night. The speakers aren’t the best but does the job. It is a pain that you have to sign up for Yi’s Cloud as there should be an option where you don’t have to sign up to be able to use the cameras but after you sign up you can cancel the subscription right away and just use SD cards. Overall happy with the product, would recommend if you need budget cameras.
The camera quality is decent. I have it pointing out the window and due to reflections, it does impact the quality, baree that in mind. I do find this effects night vision so I can’t comment how good that is.
The app is well laid out but can be slow to connect to the life feed. Scrolling through the time line is inaccurate and you’re unable to just time a specific time. The app is always trying to get you to sign up for the cloud service.
I have not signed up to the cloud service, mainly because it is expensive. All my notifications that come through are only 6 seconds long, but I can then to into the app to see the specific time of the detection. All my recordings are saved onto a big memory card I had lying about.
All in all, the camera is OK. For the price it’s good, we feel safer at home. If you need cloud storage, maybe worth looking around at cameras with different plans.
The plug adaptor that comes with the camera looks like one that will only work in some obscure foreign country with very unusual three-pin mains sockets. But in fact it’s a 1amp UK mains adaptor .. requiring a bit of construction to make it usable.
Unscrew the two little screws, using a miniature cross-head screwdriver. Remove them. Then the plastic earth pin slides upwards into its correct position and the screws can be replaced to hold it in place.
It becomes a useful USB mains adaptor, instead of the apparently useless object it seemed. And you don’t need to buy one to operate the camera.
The picture quality is great! You can view the camera from a phone anywhere. I’ve fitted it inside a dog crate to keep an eye on the new pup. The night vision is ace, remarkably clear.
The set-up is fairly simple and the companion app works well. It’s worth pointing out that you’ll (on Apple at least) have to agree to a cloud storage plan when you sign into the app and create an account. You cancel it by going into settings/ subscriptions and unchecking it. Not a problem, but if you forget you’ll eventually get charged for storage that you might not even need.
One of the things that attracted me to this little camera was that it easily clips out of its included stand. That was perfect for me as I could make a hole and mount it in the dog crate.
Overall I’m very happy and think the camera is excellent value.
I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews for these cameras, with some saying the “app” is buggy and unreliable, but I’ve never found that to be the case. I have several of these around the house, including a few outdoor Yi cameras too and they all work really well. I can view each one in turn on my phone – or on my Echo Show and also look back at recorded events set off by the really good motion detection. They’re relatively easy to set up, though I seem to remember you have to register them in the USA, not UK on the app. There’s quite a bit of customisation you can use to set up areas of the vision for motion detection and sensitivity levels, so you can fine tune them to only record what you want to record. Get it wrong and they’ll record every fly, bug or bit of dust that flies past them!
Video quality is perfectly acceptable, even on the 720p version (black) ones that I have, but these white 1080p versions are better. Night vision is good too, though dont work through glass as the IR LEDs just reflect back. I do have one pointing through the bay window at the front door and I found switching the IR LEDS off (in the app) worked better. You can even turn the little blue light on or off in the app. Sound quality isn’t that great and is always about 2 seconds behind the video, but what do you expect from such a small and inexpensive item?!
You can opt for the cloud storage of video recordings, which although expensive, does provide an extra level of security if someone manages to steal one of your cameras as the video will still be available from the cloud.
Overall, I think this is a very cost effective and simple system that produces good results. Compared to multi-cam PVR type systems that cost several hundred quid and require cables running all round your house, a few of these Yi cameras in discrete locations around the house offer a good solution for under 100. Great for checking on the pets when you’re not at home.
Just one word of warning though – they record you too! If you’re like me and occasionally get up early in the morning before anyone else and wander around in the nude, just make sure no-one else in your household has access to the recordings!! Very nearly got caught out there!
Quality system, easy to use and at a good price.
Use an SD card and don’t sign up to cloud, you don’t need to. I’ve got the camera trained on the garden through a window. There’s a blue light on the camera that causes the footage to have a flash over the image. Turn the light off, the camera still works. Clean your Windows and put the camera right up against the glass and the image is pretty good. Worth it for the price and because it’s portable and not wired to an outside wall, it can be moved. Very practical. It picks up sounds, motion and people and you have the option to capture just people. Would be great if you want it in your babies room as the picture quality is better when inside the house. Worth it for a bit of peace of mind!!
Cracking little camera. I have set this up pointing out of the window overlooking our driveway. Picture quality is great. Have disabled IR lights so you don’t get the reflection off the window at night. We have an outdoor light so quality remains good. How effective it would be in identifying a trespasser facially is yet to be tested! Have installed an sd card and set recording function on constant rather than movement activated. Reviewing footage is a doddle. App is intuitive, heavy on ads, but intuitive. Pin set to access camera alongside fingerprint recognition. Impressed.
Ordered this as part of a lightning deal
The good:
* The night vision is spot on
* Video quality is excellent at this price
* Once the SD card is entered, on the app you can view all events and not just the 6 seconds that the Yi cloud offers and also record the parts you want to keep from the app itself. I don’t wish to subscribe to pay monthly as I have far too many subscriptions already so it’s good I still have a way for local playback.
Update: There was some issues I listed here, but I have resolved them by updating firmware so loads better now.
I have 3 of these, for the price I can’t complain. The 2-way sound is a nice feature. Night vision is ok, for the price it’s not going to be brilliant is it but it does the job. The app is great and has loads of features. I put SD card’s in them for continuous recording but you do get free 6 second clips when it detects motion, and can also pay for cloud storage.
For the price this camera is amazing! It does exactly what I want, I can view what is going on at the front of the house via my phone or my echo show. Yes it does work through the window – just turn off the infa red lights and you can get a clear picture (this will depend on the lighting available outside, e.g. street lights or put a motion detector light up outside to improve the image). Even the motion detector works through the double glazing! You can adjust the sensitivity of the sensor to your own needs via the app, which is very easy to use. I was that impressed I purchased one for the garden and recommend to my daughter who has purchased one too!
All in all a very good camera and very good service from the seller.
Update:- People are saying you only get 6 seconds viewing time after an alert, this is correct, but you can get round this by using an sd card and recording 24/7. Once you receive a notification you can instantly click on the alert to view the 6 second clip and then rewind or forward the recording as much as you want. You do not need to use the cloud for storage hence no further payments required. Hope this helps.
A good enough product! The only thing I find annoying is that send me a motion detection alert for something very minor (dog stretching) but not for something bigger eg person coming into the room. I’d recommend it for checking in on someone or a pet, but not as a security camera. The quality of the video is good and the night vision is impressive. You only get 6 seconds of motion detection clips and then you have to pay for more.
For the price you pay, this is a seriously good bit of kit. No, the 1080p isn’t top notch but it’s decent, the night vision isn’t cutting edge but it pretty darn good. For 22 you get an awful lot, perfect if you want a bunch of these around your home – great thing i love about Yi products is they just WORK and well! The App is always spot on, no bugs, fast and easy to use. The best thing I like about this is I don’t need to take out a cloud plan if i don’t want to, instead I popped in a Micro SD and simply record the footage to my phone that I wish to keep! If you review this next to much more expensive alternatives it comes up short in quality, but not by much and the App for me is easier and much better. I would highly recommend this product, not just if you are on budget!!
I’ve been using this camera for over a year now and I have nothing but good things to say.
I use this as a home security camera and find the video quality to be very good when set to HD. As I point this outside my front window as it has an option to turn off the IR lights, the street lighting it still enough to see everything at night.
Setup took 5 minutes included a firmware update, just make sure your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz wifi network first, you might need to split you wifi router into 2.4 & 5GHz in it’s settings as i did.
The camera is well made and so far has never missed a beat, and the app has also been greatly improved over the last year. It’s good to see YI really support their products with new updates.
It’s an amazing camera for the price, and I see the updated version now has AI features which normally need an expensive cloud subscription, not with YI! For the price, I might get another just for this feature alone. I would fully recommend.

Best buy for busy parents like me! I bought these to be able to have an eye on my 2 and 9 years old children when they play in the living room or in their room. These cameras are wirelessi. I can check from my phone via the YI home app what they are doing live, I can take pictures, I get notifications, I can speak to them without being in the same room thanks to the audio option. My favourite option is that I can check the camera live even when I am outside of my house.
I have 3 arlo q products which I purchased a few years ago but they have now become such a problem with connection and lag ive given up. I don’t think I’ll be going back to netgear again. So I decided to go with YI home cameras. Amazing product at the moment and the price is brill, 2 cameras under 50 Just ordered 2 more so let’s see how it goes. I just hope the company doesn’t become the next netgear as they just don’t care anymore
Day time picture quality is excellent. Night vision quality is not good when there are street lights nearby which is disappointing. Even with sensitivity set low it’s still triggered by a leaf blowing in the wind. Because the body of the camera is white it reflects in the window, would be better if it was all black. It is however a lot cheaper than other cctv cameras especially having bought it when it was on offer. Update 07/02/20. Only had this camera for a week and am no longer receiving alerts. the camera I bought a year or two ago is still sending alerts.
Bit fiddly to step and beware that the YI Home app doesn’t pickup the SSID name of your broadband if your running Android 10. Any lower version works fine but wasted hours trying to figure this out. Once setup they are great cameras for a small price. Cameras pan to horizontally but not vertically.
Generally very good with small irritations.
First the picture quality is excellent even when it is dark. It is also small, lightweight and can be moved around to different networks.
The motion detection is troubling. It certainly captures movement (even changes in ambient lighting – e.g. when a car’s headlights pass the blinded window) but if a second event happens within a minute or so, no alert is sent. Don’t quite understand that one!
I actually bought it to monitor my front door through the bay window but discovered that double glazing distorts the image (especially at night when reflections from inside the house mask the scene outside.) and plays havoc with motion alerts. None of this is a fault of the camera which operates well but I now need to investigate outside cameras for this purpose.
I bought this to put in my porch so that I could record anyone who comes into the front garden. It works through the window and gives a very clear picture. I have set it up to send an alert to my mobile phone (wherever I am) if anyone comes near the porch. Very pleased.
I was burgled and the camera I had set up in the porch caught a very good picture of one of the men when he came to ring the doorbell. He avoided the house cameras, but failed to see this one which was situated in the window of the porch. The camera alerted my phone and I was able to ask my neighbour to check. (Too late to catch the burglars unfortunately)
A few of my friends have now set one up in their window or porch.
A very good and cheap way to keep an eye on things.
I use this camera for home surveillance, mostly for our dog at home. It’s very simple to set up in just a few steps. It has a long cable that make it easy to set in high places as well. it has a wide enough angle to cover a significant area as well.
It pairs with a proprietary app, this app has had a few updates recently improving the stability and user interface. At first I wasn’t really happy with the app as it took a while to connect but it’s been improving a lot these days. You can add multiple cameras (of the same brand) to the app and it’s very simple to switch between them. The night vision works like a charm, with a clear picture even when zooming in. It has a built in mic and speaker for dual communication.
Regarding connectivity, the product states that it only connects to 2.4ghz wi-fi and at home I use BT Ultrafast fibre, where the router signal apparently does not actively split the 5ghz and 2.4ghz channels, at least with the little understanding I have on this, however, the camera connects with no issues to my wi-fi so this is a massive plus if you are unsure about your signal.
The alerts could be improved as a few (very few) times I’ve gotten delayed alerts but most of the times it works perfectly. You can set it up with an SD card or pay for the cloud storage. I personally use this without either of these as the alerts give you a 5 second video that you can save on your device.
I was a bit sceptical about getting a surveillance camera as I’d heard they could be fraught with security issues such as host servers storing videos of your home and habits. My brother works in information security so I asked him which camera to get and he said that this company was one of the “least bad”, providing I update the firmware, and change the default password. So far the camera has been okay. We use it to monitor our new puppy and it just about meets our requirements. The video is pretty good, and the night vision is surprisingly good. However, the camera requires a very strong internet connection and the sound has been terrible/ very intermittent (I think because of the connection). This has meant that we haven’t been able to set up noise detection notifications, which was originally one of our requirements to check if the puppy was whining while we were away. Instead we just have to check in occasionally with the video to see if he is asleep or pacing.
These cameras are pretty amazing and for 25-30 each you can’t go wrong. I opted to have one sitting inside but facing outside towards my driveway, so it covers the cars too. It is also a good deterrent as it can quite easily be seen from the road and if you walk up the drive towards the front door. If you do this, you need to turn off the night vision though as it just reflects back onto the camera lens. (To counteract the lack of light at night-time, we have driveway sensor lights that come on if there is movement.) The inside facing camera has the night vision on, and the quality of the picture is perfect.
I opted to upload to the Cloud rather than the SD card, after all, if someone breaks in all they have to do is nick the SD card from the back of the unit and then they are as good as useless. The Cloud and the app work really well and I can’t recommend them enough. I feel very at ease going on holiday or even just going to work, and not having to worry about the house – (I can log in at any time on the app to see all is well 🙂 )
Purchased two of these before and love them. Made sense to purchase another.
Great at picture quality and software (see my other review for details on capturing would be car thief’s).
I have another camera from a different company. Although that camera is great, it is however let down by the software.
The YI cameras however use their own software and this is where everything changes. They pick up my WiFi almost instantaneously and record movement practically continuously. I have mine recorded to MicroSD Card so the cost is only from purchase of the card.
The quality is not 4K but it’s better by a long way than both my neighbours systems who also caught on camera the would be car thief’s.
The police have used my footage for their bulletin boards over my neighbours expensive systems.
Fantastic camera, got it to keep an eye on my dog and it’s brilliant. Picture quality is great, motion detection works brilliantly, long cable for easy mounting. Was very easy to set up with the app on my samsung S8 phone. Only real issues I have is that the speaker for the two way audio is pretty poor, audio is incredibly quiet and there is no aux port to plug in better ones. The other issue is the front light, it makes the camera very obvious and as it is set up above my tv it is very distracting (I did fix this with a sticker but thought you should know). Still as soon as it goes back on sale I’ll be buying more of them to cover the whole house. I got this for 20 btw incase anyone else wants to wait for a discounted offer.
For the price this is a very good security camera. Software easy to use and camera fairly straightforward in setting up. Only niggle I have is the camera software has a habit after several hours to stop generating a live thumbnail on the alerts video clip.
Basically when working; once a short video clip is recorded you see a thumbnail of the what the camera is actually looking at.
However, what often happens is you lose that live thumbnail view and is then replaced with the default picture of a room that comes with the software.
In other words when it works, by quickly glancing at all the thumbnails you can see where the movement was generated and what it was.
However, when it does not work all you see is the same thumbnail picture and have no idea what was recorded until you click on each thumbnail to view the short recorded image.
Not described as top of the range. Must admit not a make that I have heard of so I bought these with no real expectations. However. The devices were easy to set up. Consisted of downloading the app, entering the WFI password and scanning a QR code and 5 minutes later the camaras were up and running.
The quality of the picture day and night is good. I have one camera pointing out of my bedroom window and was worried that the picture would not be so good. But how wrong was I. once I turned off the status light the camera was fine. The camera covers a good 40ft with an elivated view. The motion detection is so good that it picks up moving bushes, cats walking past the house as well as cars and people walking pass the house. quiet a distance from the house.
As well as the picture quality being good. The app is easy to download setup and use. You can view the camera in realtime and also has a payback feature. It is interesting viewing what happens in your neigbour hood at night. There is also an alert function.
Overall can speak high enough of these cameras. I have one pointing at my French doors and the other pointing outside the house. No need for me to buy an external camera. Excellent product and value for money.
I have just bought a Nest home camera for about 150 and I’m very pleased with that and it was on the back of that I decided to get another camera to cover the other entrance into my house. When I went back on Amazon I saw these cameras advertised for about 1/3rd of the price so decided to try them. They have been great. The viewing angle isn’t quite as wide as the Nest but the picture quality, live streaming and motion detection is all comparable. The only downside is the cost of the cloud storage which was over 80 for the 2 cameras. ( Nest was half of that albeit a second camera you would have to pay extra but it is still cheaper than the YI.
However, that is a minor gripe and I am very impressed with them. Easy to set up and get running but note, they do not work on a 5GHz network.
I LOVE these cameras. Having purchased them because of a crazy ex-boyfriend (think “I have a restraining order” level), I am so confident in them.
The picture quality and night vision is fantastic and the motion detector is so sensitive it picked up a fly (this function can be turned off/ put on silent so it doesn’t make a noise but you still get the notification).
After disappointingly ordering another make of camera prior to these that didn’t work at all I was really skeptical but I’m really happy with this product and couldn’t recommend them enough.
Great all round for a good price after a previous experience I was a little wary but i couldn’t be happier with the product easy to set up , night vision is brilliant excellent clarity , sound is good not tin like I only need and use live feed so no need to purchase a SD card or cloud I have viewed the cameras from other counties still the same quality only down side is the blue light illuminates a pitch black small bedroom but we can live with that great product for a good price
Well I firstly had the 720 for two and the price 45,they had technical glitches.
The 1080 is great one camera covers all the front of my dri e car and garden and even the street and neighbours benefit too from my security as I informed them it covers certain areas and did lawfully.
The vision is quality, but turn off the night vision as it glares reflects off the window, with it turned off it captures everything, also I put paper over the blue light it doesn’t shine through that bright then but intruders can still see it.
For the price and quality of it against a fully cctv on the outside its worth e dfy penny.
It also gives alerts to phone where ever I am.
Easg to set up 1 min if that via Internet.
I bought this camera to keep an eye on my home, whilst I am out. It gave me peace of mind, knowing that everything is okay. I can open up the Yi Camera App on my phone and view the live camera feed and/or view any previous alerts.
I even managed to check in on my home, whilst traveling abroad to Spain. I had mobile data roaming, so it was possible to check the cameras, just as if I was in the UK. Of course, when I went into the mountain areas, where there is no mobile data reception, I could not check anything. Most UK networks include the cost of data roaming in the EU. Outside, Europe, roaming charges can be expensive, although Wi-fi may be available.
Motion Detection – the best feature is the motion detection, which is very sensitive. Sometimes, I have viewed the 6 second alert footage on my phone and wondered why it has been flagged up, only to notice in distance a car or a passer by. It is very sensitive.
Picture Quality – it is described as 1080p quality. The camera is okay, but I do not think if it is good enough to identify burglars. The camera has night vision, so it can record detection, but drops to black and white mode. You may consider having good lighting side by side. You will need to experiment. Also, I am not sure if it can read car number plates etc…
Street lighting or car headlights can blind it.
Windows PC – You can download Windows PC software to be able monitor on your PC. You can monitor multiple cameras at the same time.
Wired CCTV ? – I did consider a Wired CCTV Camera system. Such as those by HikVision, who are a world leader in CCTV systems. Whilst their products are tried and tested and used by professionals, but they don’t have the cloud back up (unless you use a third party company). The subscription rates of those were more expensive, then rates for wireless cameras. The Wired CCTV system records locally to a recorder on your premises. However, a burglar can steal the recorder. The wired CCTV systems are robust, but they lack the flexibility and nimbleness of wireless systems.
Nest / Hive / Ring – they have been advertising a lot. However, their subscription models are expensive. With Yi Camera, I have the option of stopping the subscription and it also backs up to memory card.
This product is not bullet proof. If a burglar is in your home, they can turn off the camera (just by turning off the switch). Although, you would have been sent the 6 second alert on your phone (if in time). This product has no battery back up, but many other wireless cameras dont have this feature either. So if there is a power cut, it has no power to keep recording. In addition, you need to have power back-up for your Wi-Fi router. You may be in an area, where Wi-fi stops working or is unreliable, so there is no back-up to switch to mobile data. As you can see, there are multiple lines of failure. If I had lots of money, I would fit a wired 4k Camera system from HikVision.
Trial – it mentions there is a one month trial, but you have to pay a subscription, before you can get it.
32GB – I ordered this card, but if you are only doing motion detection, then you can use a smaller capacity card.
UPDATE: You may be better off with a 64GB, if your camera is facing the street, you will get lot of alters if the trees blow in the wind or a bird flies by.
Subscription – they have a subscription of 7 day x 5 camera recording for 60 euros per year. Motion detection only. They have continuous detection, but that is more expensive. Continuous recording is far more expensive.
Power- it gets power from a USB socket on the wall.
EzVIZ – I also bought a wireless camera from this brand (because it is made by HikVision). An industry leader in CCTV. However, the EZViz is their range of wireless products. Having had both brands side by side. The YI Camera is far more superior. EzViz apps is n’t so great. I like the fitting system of EzViz (it has a magnetic base).
I read some of the negative reviews for the Yi Camera, however, I have not experienced any issues. Set up was very easy and reliable.
UPDATE 2020: YiCamera, help me find that my new neighbours, had turned the property into what I suspected a pop-up brothel, everyone was coming night. I suspected criminal activity. It help me find out what was going on at night, but video quality is n’t good enough to identify people, if they are walking fast, wearing hoodies. If a car headlights are pointing into the camera at night, it is going to capture a white blur. However, it did help me figure out what was going on, as I could hear cars turning up, people talking on the street at night at 1am, 2a, 3am 4am and disturbing my sleep, but the camera helped me put a picture, to what I was hearing in bed.
I am paying for cloud, but I have no idea, how to save from it.
Reviewing footage: That is a chore. As I had suspected criminal activity on my street. I had a memory card reader, and transfered the files to the PC for reviewing. Each file is 60seconds long. It does take time, but I found out the quickest way it to use VLC and the playlist editor and speed through it as it has a skip 10 seconds feature. SO you can review files and delete unwanted files.
Complying with regulations: You need to see the ICO web site, as there are guidance on how to deal with CCTV footage. I put signage up. You also need to decide how long to keep the data. YI will delete things after 7 days (depending on subscription and memory card).
Phone Data: If your camera is going to face the street, then make sure you have adequate data for your phone. If the camera is facing the phone, then you wont get much alerts.
Wishlist: I have written to Yi for a feature request. One camera faces my living room, so very little activity. If there was an altert, I wanted to be notified right away as a matter of urgency!!!. However, if I have another camera facing the street and garden. I don’t want to see an alert about a bird flying. So I don’t want my phone to ping. So I might get 30 or 40 alerts, I would review them when if I get time….
Please leave a ‘Helpful’ note, so I know my efforts have helped others.
Latency isn’t always the best but that’s fine. I wasn’t expecting a raw 12 bit image. Occasionally you can see artifacts but it’s expected with a live feed. Signal is 1080p, and image is clear.
Very impressed with the IR, fills a room of moderate size fairly easily. Price is great for the product. Of course I was worried about the security of this as it’s hosted by a ‘third party’ but I use it purely for my pets so like, what are they gonna do? Watch my pets all day?
The set up process is extremely easy and quick. Download the app and follow instructions. The camera talks to you to let you know where its at in the setup process and if a step fails or succeed. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to set up (I work as a computer programmer and used to tricky stuff). The picture quality is great and so is audio and the 2-way intercom system works quite well I have to say. The night vision picture is also very good and the motion detection works very well, almost too well.
The app is also quite easy to navigate and use and looks very nice, I do wish they would add IFTTT support though and maybe some explanations for certain settings.
I’ve only used it a couple of days but already ordered a second one.
Fantastic camera.
Superb quality even good on night view.
The sound: you can hear a pin drop it is that sensitive.
Can be used in intercom mode which is brilliant, talk to the dog or tell our sons that we will be home in 5 minutes. Put kettle on
Many features in settings including passcode so as to make the camera secure from others to view.
We initially brought this to keep an eye on our dog whilst we are out.
Also use in window as security camera.
Highly recommend
First time buying in house cameras, we wanted them to be facing outwards towards the main gates and garden shed. It worked and any motion it records enough to notify us and still records the whole thing via a micro SD card. I recommend you buy 16GB or 32GB micro SD cards because in some situations it might record more than others, it will soon fill up. You can also format the cards at any time via an app on Google play or Iphone. Other features will of course blow you away if you are using inside the house based on what I’ve used so far. Baby monitor and two way talking channel. Amazing product.
We were worried about this having had a poor experience with a much more expensive branded camera – but we needn’t have worried. These are extremely well made, the app is intuitive and practical – overall, how these can be bought for the price is a wonder of modern manufacturing. The cameras produce image that are wide angle, sharp, bright and clear.
One wish we have is that the manufacturer would make them work with Alexa. Our son’s far more expensive Nest camera is truly wonderful and works a treat with their Echo Show and we were hoping this would, too – but it doesn’t. We are hoping for a future firmware upgrade!
After quick and easy install, great picture of a day, but dogs started barking last night so looked on the camera and all I could see was a pitch black picture, went down stairs thinking it could be motion sensitive and still nothing, turned the light on and picture comes up. Gone through all the settings which changed nothing. Need to get s replacement!
Update, received new camera ordered all working fine very good vision all round, but of a pain setting up sharing the camera with another phone as the share button didn’t seem to appear, but after a while it just came up, bit strange but it eventually worked. I would recommend this camera very clear picture, not set up the cloud recording as of yet so I can’t comment on the useability of that.
I use this as a baby monitor for my 18 month old . The app is very easy to install and the camera is easy to set up. You can share the camera anyone as long as they have the app. I like the fact you can power the camera on and off from the app.
The only issue with this is there is only one master controller who can turn the camera on and off from their app. The person who your share with can only view if you have the camera switched on. You can also set alerts for motion and crying(I did not test these settings yet)
The picture quality is perfect in light and night vision.
This is a great security camera to use through a window with some slight modifications. I looked at true external security cameras and because of mounting and wiring problems decided to try out the Yi Home Camera 1080p instead. To minimise glare from the window I covered the white mount with matt black insulation tape – this is easy to apply and much less messy than applying matt paint. The camera sits on top of its packaging and is just touching the glass. At night I close heavy curtains behind the camera and during the daytime ensure that the drapes are open. You will need to turn off the Status Light and the Night Vision IR Light as both these will reflect from the window glass.
At dusk the camera switches from normal camera mode to infra red mode automatically- the IR image is obvious as leaves on trees will appear to be white instead of green. I have set the Lens Distortion function to the mid-point on the scale, that works well for me. I have the Camera Microphone turned off but if you have it operating you can listen and speak via the microphone icon on the app screen.
With Motion Detection turned on you will receive alerts to your iPhone / mobile on a regular basis when the camera detects movement a short movie is recorded on the micro SD card – this can be triggered by people, cars, cats, dogs, foxes and on one occasion by a magpie flying by. At night a recording is generally triggered by cars passing by – this could result in many dozens of recordings from bright headlights. But the Yi will also record people and foxes at night – the camera resolution is lower at night and there is some ghosting on a moving image so it would be tricky to identify intruders but you would have a video and know exactly the time when an event takes place.
Key settings are the Motion Detection and Activity Region functions in the app – Motion Detection gives you access to a range of important functions.
With the activity region activated a live image is displayed with a red box – the red box can be resized and moved to anywhere on the screen. So it is possible to just limit motion detection to a front drive, path or entrance gate for example. With Motion Detection activated you will receive notification messages on your iPhone – these are fun at first but you may be getting hundreds a day so I turn this off – the camera still records movement and stores this as a short film clip on the micro SD card but notifications are not sent out. With my settings I use about 1.2Gb of card memory a day so with a 32Gb card I get about 20 days of activity recordings. To review the recordings tap the screen and a sliding bar pops up with a date and timeline, each activity is marked with a red line, just use you fingers to expand the timeline to minutes and tap just before the recording to view the activity. The recording normally starts just before and just after the event and if there are simultaneous or successive events the recording will span a longer period. I use the camera on HD continuously and the playback and live feeds are generally coming in at up to 220kbs if you have limited data allowance on your mobile it gets eaten up very quickly.
My Yi connects to a close Apple Express WiFi and connects at 78Mbs, the app has functions to check the connection and its quality. Make sure you install the latest updates when notified via the app. A great camera at a great price but WiFi connection is erratic.
First of all this is an excellent product! Well built, super easy to setup, very good picture quality and baby cry detection works!
We bought this to use as a baby monitor. Wanted something that can send alert to devices such as mobiles and tablets when baby cried.
The feature works really well except for the fact you can only have it on a single device. It kinda makes sense but would love that extra flexibility. You can share the camera with others but they will not get motion or crying alerts.
Overall super surprised how easy the set up was and the voice commands that tell you everything is going well or if there was a password error.
Latency seems to be very low too which is good for a WiFi connected device. Probably only a second or 2 video / voice delay and the push notifications are quick too.
I can highly recommend this camera, better than some of the more generic baby video monitors in my opinion. But having said that it really does depend if you want a constant live feed or just want to check in.
Not sure about subscribe to yi cloud as I only have one decive but may keep an close eye on this brand!
This is a quality camera. Gives a crisp clear image with many options in the app to control your camera. It has a good feel and look about it. I have several Yi cameras and all work very well. The camera works well through glass and as it can be fitted close to or touching the glass it prevents the majority of reflection. I don’t use the night vision as this doesn’t work through glass, however if there is sufficient light it will capture reasonable quality. I have tried to upload a clip but it seems I can’t so here is a still to show the quality at 3am with no night visio
Got this twin pack and love the form factor small and light
You could even remove the camera from its mount and with a hole cutter the right size retrofit them into your own custom install.
Up and running quickly app works great
Motion detection is great ,push notifications come timely
Picture quality is great quality
The only annoyance is a goddam fly in my garage is buzzing around the infrared at night and even on the lowest motion detect setting is being triggered…. fly spray has sorted that for the moment !
Thoroughly recommended.
Added some day and night photos from the cam facing out of the window.

Update: Item replaced by Yi. Amazon offered a refund only but would have to pay for posting and packaging…Very happy with the replacement. Use it to watch my bike and house when going away. Happy customer

Initial review: Item stopped working after roughly 1 month (faulty USB connector) . Covered by warranty however both Yi and Amazon are not facilitating its replacement. This review will be altered/removed if any progress is made…
I absolutely swear by these cameras. The build quality is astounding and the images are excellent. I bought my first about four years back. No problems whatsoever. The phone app is very well designed and simple to use. The ‘IP’ capability allows you to view your cameras from anywhere you can connect to a network. I checked my garden while on holiday in Tenerife (I’m in the UK). Also they can be set to send you a notification if someone enters a set part of the viewing area. For example, I put one inside a dummy dome case in my porch. If someone comes to my door I get a notification on my phone. I can then view the camera and have a two-way chat …even from Tenerife!
One VERY useful thing that the marketing material doesn’t even mention is that the round black camera can be simply popped-out of the stand (other than the “Yi home camera 2” version) …so I’ve very easily mounted a couple covertly inside outdoor rated junction boxes. The furthest distance camera from my router is 85ft from the router. I’ve read that people moan that they are only 2g wifi and not 5g. That’s correct …but if you’re WiFi savvy you’ll know that 5g is ideal for high traffic short distance transmission, whereas 2g is for medium traffic short AND long distance transmission. If you could somehow see the WiFi signal, 5g transmits in a spherical format – but 2g would appear as a large flying saucer shape. That’s why if you have an item at any great distance from the router you can alter the efficiency of reception by tilting your router slightly. Apologies …I went nerdy. I try to fight it, but it keeps breaking the surface!
Bottom line is forget the hyped brands as these do the same VERY well. 🙂
This is for the 1080p Yi Home Camera.
I really like this little camera. Image quality is good, it has night vision and is very reasonably priced compared to some other cameras. Set up was very easy and took about 2 minutes. It is powered via a 6ft long micro USB cable. If you want to put it up high or somewhere more than 6ft from a mains socket you can buy USB extension cables or connect it to a rechargeable powerbank and this means you can put your camera more or less wherever you like as long as its indoors.
The most Impressive thing about this camera for me is the ease of connecting to it via the 4G network when I am out and about, something which some other cameras seem to struggle with but which seems to me to be essential. I had the builders in recently doing my bathroom and my Yi camera caught them having a nosey in my bedroom while I was out. Needless to say, they withdrew pretty quickly when they noticed the camera! I promptly received a push notification to my phone and had no trouble viewing a 6-second clip of the event which started just before motion was detected so I didn’t miss anything, and also the live feed, all over 4G. When I got home I was able to access the SD card in the camera and view the whole event. The camera keeps recording to the SD card for 2 minutes after motion ceases just to make sure it doesn’t miss anything.
Overall I think this is a very good little camera for the price.
Bought 2 of these in a lightning deal have to say I’m very impressed! Set up was super easy – just follow the written instructions included, once synced to your wifi network you can put them where you want. Download the app (Yi Home Camera) and everything is done through that. Pop in a SD card if you dont want to sign up to their cloud storage and it’ll record on to the card instead. Sends through alerts in 6 second clips each time the camera is activated for you to view via the app. Motion detection is pretty damn good – even picks up birds landing in the garden!!. Image quality is excellent – even in night vision mode. I managed to find some outdoor waterproof cases for them (check out ebay – nest camera cases,as they’re the same size) Now have one front and rear!! A good cheaper alternative to a full on cctv system. Highly Recommended.
Really good camera for the price and feels well built and good quality, based on this, I was happy to see that it also has a 24 month warranty!.
Set up was a cinch and was up and running in minutes via connection to the app.
The app is really easy to use and gives alerts when motion detected, which then allows you to view back the action and download to phone/tablet and take snapshots..
I’ve put a 32GB sd card in it for local storage, but they also offer cloud storage at a decent price.
This camera is almost really good, the software is much better than others and setup was a dream, however multiple features that should work just don’t.
The camera it’s self seems to be good quality, however on setting up the camera I found the adapter or power lead did not work (not a huge issue as it uses micro USB) which I had a spare.
Once setup – which was quick and painless the camera worked really well as a standard webcam – good quality image, little delay and handled a 32gb sd card with ease – even rolling back in time worked exceptionally well. I very much likes the simple and intuitive app.
My issue was motion recording… you’d have thought this was straight forward but… I put the cam in a couple of places – a hallway, office and facing my drive. Now it will detect motion, just not all the time – mostly at night. I can drive my car off the drive and not get an alert or any indication that there has been movement. I can have it in the hallway and walk by and nothing is detected. I even changed the motion detection settings to high and setup areas.
This to me was a deal breaker, I don’t want to have to scroll through a bunch of video to find out when something happens – and yes the settings are correct.
It has the potential to be a great camera but it falls down. I’m unfortunately returning it 🙁

After this was posted I received help from YI. It appears I had a faulty unit. As previously mentioned the software and picture quality are very good. With the alert function it does not work in the same way as say a canary camera. You won’t get hundreds of alerts for each movement, only those spaced around 1 min apart.
There are two improvements I’d like to see to give it 5*
Location based alerts – ie. no alerts when you are at home
Longer motion videos – currently the camera only records 6 second of motion (what triggers it) but if you turn the lights on then walk into a room you might only see an alert showing the light turn on – you then have to go into the full clip to see whats happened.
All in its a good camera at a good price
