I’ve only had for a few days so far but I’m happy with it so far. The controller has a solid feeling to it, which is rare for wired controllers these days. The D-pad is good for 2d games, and I really like the extra paddle/back buttons for 3d games. The only thing I don’t like so far are the L1/R1 buttons, but that might just be because they are a different shape and have a different feel than most modern first party controllers.
The app works well to customize the controller to your liking, I do wish the back paddle buttons could be reprogrammed on the fly like my previous 3rd party X-Box controller, but if the Pro 2 doesn’t get awful stick drift, its a trade off I can live with.
I bought this controller for use with games on PC that require a controller. Everything works except for the bottom paddle buttons which I think is a problem when the coding of the game rather than the controller because the OS detects them just not the older games I’m playing playing. They do work perfectly with emulators.
One of the triggers has a different “feel” than the others at bottom-out, which is annoying but doesn’t affect actual use. Additionally, unlike the Bluetooth version, this controller does not have a physical switch to switch between its different “modes”; this can lead to some slightly annoying compatibility issues, particularly on Linux. However, overall, this controller is very well-priced and feels nice in the hand; I would recommend it to others.
Really nice to enjoy the snes games on switch online. All the buttons and plastic with good quality!
Recommend by a friend. I am a big fan of monster hunter. And this controller bring me the best experience on monster hunter rise on switch.
initially it feels a bit weird if you’re used to xbox controllers, but it’s a worthy thing to overcome. for what i use this controller for (developing GM2 games and playing older games) it works very well. while i’ve only had the controller for a couple days, it feels like it’ll last much longer than my last one
My favourite non-official pad I’ve ever used, sticks are great feels nice in your hand and I love how it looks I dropped it once and the shoulder triggers came off, they just clipped back on though and worked fine after. It’s not going to be primo official xbox/ps5 controller quality but it’s half the price and so far the best non official pad for me, recommended.
feels great in the hand but it only works with retropi of you press a button combination on boot and on pc it’s worse than a ps4 controller.
Picked this up a bit ago having done my research on good controllers for my retro gaming PC needs (If you know you know lol…) I had previously been using an older Xbox One controller and the D-pad on that thing just wasn’t cutting it for Chrono Trigger…so I looked up 8bitDo and I decided to take the shot and I can wholly say I don’t regret that decision.
The controller is super responsive and fits comfortably into the hands, the triggers feel nice, the D-pad is a HUGE upgrade from that old Xbox One controller’s mushy D-pad the sticks are perfectly sized and the cord is long enough to where you don’t have to worry about yanking it from a USB port, it even has small programmable back paddle buttons if you want to use those.
The 8bitDo controller feels like a fusion of past controllers like the snes controller, PS1 controller (Dual shock 1), and the PS4 controller but it’s even better than all those.
Overall I give the 8bitDo Pro 2 a 10/10
– Oh and it also works for Switch as well –
I used to use a Nintendo Switch Pro controller with Steam. It was a headache (even with Steam I had to get additional drivers). Initially I wanted to get an Xbox controller but even the more expensive models fail after 6 – 12 months. Reddit recommended to try the 8Bitdo.
I chose the wired model as I sit in front of my PC but there is also a blue tooth version. The controller is immediately recognized in Steam, Microsoft Games and Epic Games. The controller is solid: compared to the Switch Pro: the haptic feedback is much stronger and the feeling reminds me of the old PlayStation controllers which is great.
There are two things you need to be aware of: the two buttons on the bottom of the controller can only copy a function of the other buttons. It is not possible to assign a different function to them that you haven’t already used another button on the controller for. This is disappointing as they have the ideal position to assign for example shift up/ down in Forza. So just forget about those two buttons (I don’t use them).
The controller comes preconfigured with the button assignment reversed to what the game show you: A = B and B = A etc. To solve: download the 8Bitdo software from their website. This gives you complete control of the configuration. You can set up to three different profiles. It is also possible to upload you desired configuration to the controller hardware so if you use it at a different PC it will still remember it without having to install the 8Bitdo software (I like B = B, A = A etc).
It is a really good controller – among the best I have used in my 35 years of gaming :-). And it’s priced very reasonable.
I bought this for playing Steam games on my PC, and it’s been great. The build quality is some of the best I’ve ever seen– easily rivaling first-party controllers such as those for the Switch and Xbox. The buttons are solid and click well, and the analog sticks are very precise and feel good to use. The software that comes with it is great for remapping buttons, which is useful if you find yourself with a game that doesn’t support in-game remapping.
I tend to distrust bluetooth controllers– there’s often a noticeable lag– so this wired controller was exactly right for me.
Also, as of 3/18/22, 8bitdo’s Ultimate Software will recognize this controller for firmware updates, button assignments, macro setup, etc. Of course, you need to run this software within Windows.
Bought this to replace my Logitech F310 for windows PC gaming and I’m so far very impressed. The controller has a nice feel, the textured back and weight give it a quality feel. All buttons, triggers, etc feel good to press and the addition of vibration a plus. All in all for the price this is a definite first pick and upgrade to the F310.
