5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality as usual
You only need 37 keys for modern music and drum pads are positive and touch sensitive (as are the keys).
The software is usefull with extra instruments to get you started.
4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value and quality
Definitely a Keystep 37 rival. But you can’t have your midi din hardware and use the USB port for your DAW at the same time. So it falls short if you want a hybrid setup. I did, so I sent it back. Nice board though!
5.0 out of 5 stars Best value for money
My son is going to study music production next year. I got him started on his journey with this controller. It has many of the features that he will need to understand moving forward.
I wanted to learn more about creating music, using a physical input device alongside GarageBand. The Akai comes with a comprehensive suite of software which means you don’t need to buy anything else to start making your own beats
With this and the included software, it’s easy to get started with making music, even if, like me, you know next to nothing about music theory.
Excellent if you want to start learning how to get the music in your head to come out of the speakers.
I got this product based off of reviews. The drum pad feels smooth and is tentative to the velocity of each press. The keys have some weight to it. The controller feels sturdy and more expensive than it is. And it was a pretty easy set up right out the box. Made a demo track within the first hour of getting it. The MPC software is a learning curve, but there’s tons of videos online that help with learning it. The grey color looks the best! This has become my latest obsession.
Love this. Small and compact but can make a big impact of productio

This is an excellent little devise. It’s functional and looks cool!

Everything about this is good, except for the keys. But mainly because the Arturia minilab has so great keys. I went with the new minilab mk3 mainly because of the keys, but also now that it has some basic ableton integration.

So far I've only done very little but it was an easy set up and looking forward to it's potential. Been researching before purchase and am satisfied.

he best of the bes
Things about this keyboard that are perfect:
– the beat pad (the buttons are firm; they don’t actually press in when you hit them, which is what you want)
– durability (cheap price but not a cheap build!)
– portability
– easy set-up
– key size (not too small)
– aesthetic
things that are ehhh:
– I don’t think I’ve ever used the free software that came with this thing, but I guess it’s nice that it was included. Someone might find it useful, but not me. Would’ve been nice to include a nice piano VST or something.
– My old model had an issue where the USB port became loose and stopped working, but it seems like they’ve fixed that in the newer models! It’s much more durable from what I can tell.
I’ve used this keyboard since I started producing, and it’s unbeatable for the price. I love this thing so much.
I’m still learning how to use it, but I can say that within 15 minutes of opening the box I was making turns with this on my laptop. This is an awesome keyboard. Multiple thumbs up!

Excellent little controlle
I needed something with a pitch and mod wheel (it’s a stick – good enough) that was compact for writing and recording on the move. I don’t use the software that came with it, so can’t speak to that, but the physical controller does all the things it says, and a few I didn’t need that are still fun to mess around with.
Drum pads are a little more stiff than expected and don’t seem to allow for a lot of variation in velocity, but it’s been a long time since I’ve used pads like that, so that could be me just needing more practise.
The keys are small, so if you’re used to piano sized keys, it will be an adjustment. The arpeggiator is a neat addition, and the knobs are smooth and easy to work with
All in all, super happy with my purchase
Perfect little add-on for the Akai Force
This is a perfect little addition to use with the Akai Force. Plugs right in and is ready to go. Literally no time after hooking it up you are able to play and use this mini keyboard. If needed, I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Good job Akai!!

Overall, a really great product.
I just got it today and right away i could tell why it’s the bestselling MIDI Keyboard on amazon. as soon as i opened it i went into my D.A.W and started making beats. beginner friendly
also liked that it came with its own Music Production Software Included
overall, a 9.5/10
I bought this device expressly for finger drumming. In that regard, this is a cool little machine. When it comes to playing melodies on the keys, though, the lack of sensitivity, key material, and size leave much to be desired. For that purpose, I turn to my M-Audio Keyrig 49.

I just spent 90 minutes trying to get Garageband to launch. Being blocked by the AKAI recommended software that you do not need. your need to install nothing to get this to work on your mac. They need to remove that card inside the box that tells you to download some 2003 software which does not work and disables computers.
Me encanta .
I need detailed instruction on how to make complete live songs with it. Haven't used it a lot, but the youtube videos I find on it seem to be for someone already familiar with these things. Switching from drums, instruments, live instruments and vocals. I like it, but need a good walkthrough.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Keyboard - Bad Price
I really enjoyed my time using this keyboard! However, I feel that there’s defo other MIDI controllers there that are much better and don’t cost as much. The drumpads are nice and responsive, the touch sensitivity is nice too but I really did not like the endless turning on the knobs. If that doesn’t bother you, this MIDI controller works great.
Buen articulo, mal emboltorio
Wow
Al contrario delle aspettative, un grande prodotto! Tasti perfetti per pre-produzioni, ed estetica eccezionale!! Five stars!
Works out well with my Logic Pro 9. All I needed was to use this as a simple drum kit and possibly add some extra ambiance. It’s been doing great so far, and the octave buttons actually work really well when I’m ascending and descending with scales.

It is really good for the money…for me it was to few keys but works amazing, it comes with some plugins to play and the software is nice…i have been using it to produce bass and batteries for my backing tracks with protools, works grea
It's such good quality for the price, great functionality, feels good to use, very plug-and-play with ableton.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great piece of kit. Just not standalone
After watching many reviews I opted to buy this midi controller and it really does live up to the hype. It’s a great piece of kit with some fantastic features. The drum pads are great, the arpeggiator is really good with many different settings and it’s really easy to set up and get started. However it very quickly became apparent that I needed to be able to use it without having to plug it into a computer every time. So I decided to exchange it for the PLAY version that comes with a speaker and battery compartment. It was a bit dearer but worth it.
I like that the keyboard fits well in front of my desktop computer and is easy to plug and go.

Bom controlador midi
Me atende super bem s necessidades, compacto, ocupa pouco espao, leve, tem uma boa construo. Os softwares so bacanas, os PADS so timos de tocar. As teclas so leves, tem sensibilidade mediana.
Great price to get into making music fast, love the colorway too.

It’s hard if you have zero idea how to use one but there are tutorials and it comes with great software! Really nice!
IMPRESSIONANTE! Super consigliata per esperti e per principianti
A well made, reasonably priced midi keyboard. I purchased this for use with GarageBand and it seems great for this. It has some features that tie in with the free software given but I don’t use these, although they look useful. The free software is difficult to install as it needs accounts to be set up, confirmation codes etc etc, that getsreally tedious. The upshot being that I didn’t bother. I would say that the touch sensitivity is not very sensitive and even given that the keys are not weighted, you don’t get a piano feel from it. Still you can obviously make up for this in Garageband. If I get into this more I would consider buying a keyboard with full sized keys and maybe one more targeted at Garageband if there is such a thing. Overall I’m pleased with the purchase.
I have been waiting months for this to come out! I rarely buy gear from amazon because it doesn’t always work out the way it should but they were the first to have them. I love this controller. The keys are much nicer then the older smaller MPK mini’s and the extra knobs and controls are a game changer. I have always had my pads and keys on a separate controller but I find my workflow with the MPK Mini Plus not only improved, it saved a lot of space on my desktop. I’ve already bought a second one for my backpack.
The one disappointment is the sequencer. It’s burred deep in the menu and is not user friendly. To get advanced sequencing out of the unit is a long antiquated process that stifles creativity. Akai needs to improve this with a firmware update in the future, the sequencer is unusable in it’s current from.
That all said this is still a 5 start piece of gear IMHO. I have use the heck out of mine and it’s improved my workflow a lot.
Eccezionale!
I found the drum pads to be excellent and the keys are pretty damn good the features like the arpeggiate are are fun and the note repeat is handy however all of the knobs don’t do anything without being programmed on GarageBand or it would be a five star deal

Buon rapporto qualit prezzo.
If you own an MPK Mini Mk3, this is an upgrade. The out of the box key velocity curve is improved and doesn’t require a YouTube video hack to adjust. Otherwise, it is a similar keyboard action and will feel the same. What you get that is all new is transport controls, more room to play, a sequencer, and chord / scale modes.
The down side is, there likely will be buttons and knobs to map even when you select mappings for individual DAWs. What is the point of these modes if they aren’t better mapped to DAWs they are supposed to support. Tried them in the MPC Software (2.11.6) and Ableton Live 11 and you’ll still have to map things yourself. Some manufacturers know how to do this and some don’t. Akai just can’t pull off seamless DAW integration in their keyboards. You’ll have to do the work.
First I want to give 5 star praise to this little controller. If you have tried to produce music using only a keyboard, this is definitely a step in the direction of pro level production hardware ~ Between this and my Korg, I am getting work done and I was 5 star satisfied for a whole week…
Why the sudden lack of satisfaction when the device itself is still doing everything it is supposed to? ~ Because on Oct 21st, AKAI released the “AKAI MPK mini plus” with THREE octaves of keys (two handed chords!), real pitch bend wheels (industry standard), midi connector/control w/ step sequencer and all still well under $200.
The price of the MPK mini has now been adjusted to where if you are on an absolute tight budget, it is still going to be hard to beat BUT compare this mini and AKAI’s newest model to make sure you are getting the best value for your needs.
As soon as this was announced I knew I had to have it. I’ve been using AKAI’s MPK mini 25-key MIDI controller for about two years and have considered it the best option for the budget-oriented or desk space-challenged producer… until now.
The MPK mini plus, with its additional octave and (FINALLY) dedicated mod and pitch wheels, is absolutely the new gold standard for bedroom producers who don’t have a lot of money or space. Yes the keys are mini sized, but they don’t feel cheap–the springs give them a nice tactile tension and you get used to the small size quickly.
The whole product in fact feels surprisingly premium despite the plastic body; the CC wheels and two-axis joystick have a splendid resistance to them and when you engage them, you get a silky smooth response and a nice readout of the value on the little LCD display.
The one feature I haven’t messed too much with is the new built-in sequencer (and I imagine most bedroom producers have that functionality taken care of by their DAW like me), but I’m sure it’s fab if you take the time to learn it.
Time will tell if the mini plus holds up to rigorous daily use like its surprisingly rugged baby brother. If it ever breaks I’ll update this review… for now though, I couldn’t be more happy with my purchase. This is a great value at MSRP.
Complicatissima
User friendly. Compact desig
Everything is awesome. Can be used anywhere with ease.
One noticed drawback is that the Velocity control cant be turned off.
Tastiera davvero bella e funzionale
I bought this AKAI Mini Keyboard for my son, who already is a musician of 6 years on the saxophone, but expressed interest in playing the piano/keyboard and trying to write music. He loves this and found it very easy to use! It’s lightweight and portable, so makes it easy to travel with, in its portable hard case. Very reasonably priced - this keyboard is more expensive at our local music stores, so I feel that I got a good value for this item. I would highly recommend this keyboard to beginners, intermediate players, and even advanced players, to have something to travel with and create tracks with.

Fa quasi tutto
Overall great, but the pads require too much force for 80% velocity
Solid device, can’t complain. 10/10 would buy again, if only there was a way to adjust the sensitivity of the pads, which are MPC-style and as such are not as sensitive as some might expect.
There is a built-in keybed sensitivity edit though.
Amazing value
This is everything you need to get started producing your own music. If you’re completely new to things it might require a few hours research prior – but I was surprised at how this is essentially plug and play once you have the midi instruments installed. There were really no technical headaches and I wasn’t expecting it to be so easy.
Very sturdy and we’ll made and the keys have a nice response to them and the pads are good for programming drum beats.
Feel like every household should own one. It’s good fun just playing around and being able to make any imaginable sound
Kid in a sweet shop !
Not done music for 20 years. Thought I’d buy this to test the water and fell straight in. If you need a MIDI controller or just want to try your hand this is a brilliant buy. And the included software is amazing.
Value for the money
Great value for the price.. Ideal for the starter studio
Great for the price
Comes with a great daw so no need to try everything u see online
As an ex-professional keyboard player, session musician and writer i would never ever have entertained buying something like this……but….it’s not about playing a keyboard as such, more about making music. So….for a few quid you get a velocity sensitive keyboard with pads, pitch bend, an arpeggiator and moreover…the software. MPC beats may have a bit of a learning curve but just watch the videos on the tube and you will be up and running in no time….I struggled for about 10 minutes, watched about 30 mins of videos on youtube and was up and running. the results were incredible for the cost and off I went.
Why did I buy this, well, arthritis is setting in and I need another way to scratch my itches….my only single gripe about this is that I loved the approach so much I ended up going out and spending 1000 on an MPC Live Mk2 which takes it to another level…the keyboard is now part of that rig whenever I need keys for rifs etc….Buy it, download the software, get used to it and give it the opportunity to show you how good it is.
As an alternative, if you don’t want keyboard, are on a budget and don’t mind hooking into a laptop, then go for the MPC Studio Mk2 which gives you the full MPC 2 software (Beats is a cut down, but powerful tool) for 200 quid with an interface that whilst not having a touch screen, is also not too difficult to master.
Lastly, honestly, the workflow is NOT that hard to learn…it’s just that people expect too much to quickly and too easily these days….those same people can often get bored quickly and will move onto their next hobby. Just my 0.02
Super item
2. I pad
ice product, software setup unnecessary and a dead end
Product itself is fine.
I wouldn’t bother with the software registration. Signups, passwords, what’s your date of birth, captchas etc etc enough to tear your hair out. Plug it in and open your own DAW software, even GarageBand and viola..
I have bought lots of pad/keyboard controllers and never really got what I wanted from any of them. This is probably the closest though. I have a full weighted 88 key MODX synth and use that for serious playing but I like have something on the desk for when I am using software synths. I use logic X and own some great synth plugins already so I wasn’t expecting much from the bundled plugins – they are ok and would definitely get you started. I wouldn’t bother with them if you already have nice synth sounds but they are a good start for a beginner.
The next thing – don’t think you will be a YouTube sensation in 10 minutes! This controller is very flexible but it takes a bit of work to get it set up and the included sounds that don’t really cut it (in my opinion). They do provide you with a neat looking DAW to get you started though – I’m not keen on the workflow so haven’t used it stand alone. The DAW also runs as a plugin which is interesting as it could really help if your existing DAW doesn’t have a loop launcher. I have set it up with Logic Pro and in the main it works. You have to remember to listen to the midi on channel 10 for the pads and channel 1 for the keys to make sure you can control 2 separate instruments if working that way. Alternatively you can assign the pads to trigger loops in logic – this works really well. I am struggling with assigning the rotary knobs to the Atruria Collection plugins – they seem to only register as on or off which makes them unusuable. I’m sure this is user error on my part but if I can’t resolve this in the next 24 hours I will have to return it as I mostly use these synths. Build quality is nice – it looks good and the knobs etc feel solid. The keybed is ok for the price and the pad velocity sensors seem good (although sometimes I think one of the pads gets slightly triggered by an adjacent pad). The joystick was a bad idea – in theory its good but in practice having bend and modulation on the opposing axis is just not workable as you end up unintentionally using both at the same time. I think you can reconfigure this in the editor. You have to download this from the advanced options in the installer. I think the editor is likely to resolve my issue but need some time to work through it. It certainly gives the impression that this controller will do whatever you want it to if you are willing to spend the time with it. (No idea why this is considered to be an advanced feature!)
It’s a tough call between this and artruia products – if I can sort the issue with mapping the knobs it will stay on my desk! Otherwise it will have to go back and I may get an Arturia keystep The manual is awful and the best info out there is offered by YouTubers.
Perfect for jamming
It’s a beautiful little toy. I have a 61 key controller which is too big for my desk so I got a keyboard stand for that reason.
However the MPK mini is smaller than my computer er keyboard and fits perfectly. It’s extremely convenient when jamming out melodies or messing with synth patches (especially because it comes with 8 knobs – bonus points for them being 360 degrees controllable).

A little hard to set up, but amazing considering the price
This controller is honestly amazing, ive had it for a month now and have noticed zero issues. The pads are a little hard, but some people prefer that. The keyboard is obviously only two octaves but there is two octave up/down buttons which do a fine job. It has a built in arpeggiator which once you get the hang of is really useful. Eight pads is more than enough for drums and chords, additionally there is a switch A/B button which alloows you to quick switch to a different pad program fast if your daw allows. The build quality is really nice. While its mostly plastic, its very dense and has a nice weight to it. It powers off the midi usb cable and the drivers are easily downloadable from the website.
If you are new to production or experienced, this conroller is amazing and alone can get almost anything done.

Not a bad keyboard. Works as intended. just not very good for fine velocity sensitivity

My best first MIDI keyboard
I enjoy playing the keyboard on garage band only because I don’t have a windows or MacBook for the MPC beats but it is my best first MIDI keyboard.
Does the job
No, it’s only two octaves and yes, the keys are small, do it doesn’t feel anything like a ‘real’ keyboard but… if you just need get down a riff or a couple of chords or start a basic drum beat for your DAW this really can’t be beaten for the price. It has saved me literally hours of faffing around with the piano roll. Another thing I like is that you can start and Apple Loop going and see what your riff sounds like as you change instruments. I leave it by the side of my desk and use it as a ‘scratchpad’ while I’m working. It’s actually capable of a lot more but hey it works for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent good value MIDI controlle
I think some of the 1-star reviewers misunderstood what they were buying here.
I purchased this to control an air instrument, it’s true that the dynamics on the keys aren’t great but it’s a 70 MIDI controller. It’s perfectly adequate for punching stuff in, I think some folks purchasing were under the impression they’d get a proper piano. Forget about playing Chopin on this, it won’t happen.
Yes, it’s very easy to set up if you’re new to this, no, it’s not a piano you can plug in and play. You need to know your way around a DAW. This keyboard is a good compliment to that.
Leaving the dynamic range of the keys aside, I had the keyboard up and running within minutes of unboxing it. The knobs feel good, the pads are surprisingly responsive, the XY controller seems good. It’s a no nonsense good value for money controller with some decent features.
Purchased to trigger air horns so I don’t particularly care about dynamics, but I really like that if offers so many control knobs and the XY controller at this price where some of the other keyboards don’t. I’ll be using it to play around with my dubstep patches for sure.

Worth the Investment - Professional or Amateu
I use this to aid me writing tracks using lots of samples and this is just the tool for the job. Can be challenging at first to get it to do exactly what you need but once you get the hang of it, it’s Brilliant. I see alot of professionals using it and can see why. A really Great bit of kit, well worth the investment.

Seems good
Son asked for for this for Christmas and won’t be able to try it out until then. Looks good and seems good value, will update after Xmas.
Great little controller for getting into music
The MPK Mini is a brilliant little MIDI controller, perfect for if you are just getting in to music making.
Comes with MPC Beats, Akai’s free DAW software which is much simpler to use than many, whilst still not absolutely intuitive it has some good tutorials.
The controller itself is easy to use and you can have a simple beat chopped together in no time. Pads are responsive and have “velocity” control so the harder it lighter you hit it the louder or quieter the note will be, or you can set it to fixed volume.
Keyboard is responsive, small but octaves can be adjusted up or down giving a broader scale range than you’d initially think.
The “continuous” rotary knobs are an improvement on the Mk2 and operate smoothly.
Overall, for the 75 I paid, it’s a steal of a controller. I have a much more expensive NI Maschine but find I go to the MPK more often just for the fun factor.

well done
very nice using for my producing and that’s very helpfull
Incredible product but beware of the 3rd party software
Used Akai MPC MkIII keyboard with GarageBand on MacBook and was incredible. Decided to then install 3rd party (Air Instruments) software; Hybrid 3, Velvet & Mini Grand. Have latest Mac OS ‘Monterey’ and software is presumably out of date, so GarageBand broke and wouldn’t start unless Core Audio disabled (by holding Control just after clicking on GarageBand), which made it useless. No options to uninstall, so not happy. However, go to the root > Library > Audio (NOT Users > (username) > Library > Audio) and delete the Velvet, Hybrid & Mini files in the sub-folders, restart Mac and GarageBand will work again, hurray. Told Akai but no official response yet. Air Instruments support form just doesn’t work!

Very compact keyboard controlle
I bought this mainly because I was after a small midi keyboard for Cubase. It is a very compact design and fits easily on my desk. The keys are small, but still easy to play. No problem plugging in cubase and after watching some YouTube videos I have been able to use the midi controller functions to adjust gain, volume and panning.
I love using it with Cubase to write and record songs, even though I’m a guitar player, so this is great and easy to use for that.
YouTube videos suggest the midi controller features may suit Ableton even better, but I don’t mind because it does everything I need it to.
There is recording software included and after a quick look was very impressed with how much was included free. It did not work well as a VST in Cubase, but again, that is not important to me.
It may present quite a learning curve if you have never recorded before, but Akai have included some training videos and on YouTube some using Garage Band.
It is addictive. On first use I didn’t turn into bed until 3am! Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
I love i
I got this for my daughter and she absolutely loves it. It come with a lot of different software and the product is well made. I’m just happy she’s happy

Perfect for the price
I wouldn’t say it’s for beginners as you can get full keyboard for this money, it feels bit plasticy, it’s not in the list of FL studio midi keyboards but it does the job. I made a lot of nice songs. Keys are bit small. For this money I am not sure if you can get something bette
Haven’t a clue how to use it but it looks cool. Seems to work fine with GarageBand on M1 Mac Mini.
Bought for fun. Haven’t a clue how to use it but it looks cool. Seems to work fine with GarageBand on M1 Mac Mini.
Weighs very little so will be portable. Powered via usb so no batteries to worry about.
Top Keyboard For A Budget Price
This Akai MPK MIni is my first venture in keyboard controllers and it has already worked great with two of the leading DAWs, so its very compatible. Very responsive keys and pads with enough functionality for beginners onwards. Would recommend as its a great value product.

Great Produc
I haven’t touched a keyboard since I was at school and I didn’t like it very much, but roll on 15-ish years later, I find I need to use one for my job and it has been great. I found for me, that the setup process was a pain in the ass having to create not only an account for Akai but also for iLok too. I had hoped this would have been plg and play with the software preinstalled on the keyboard itself. That is the only downside, but other than that, it is highly recommended!
Fantastic for starte
My son started to produce music and was looking for a product which has many features but isn’t too expensive. This product came up in many reviews and hence we decided to go for it. I have to say, it’s a fantastic product which comes with many software and technical features. It is a joy using it and the compatibility with many software out there makes it very versatile.

Better than the mk2 i had before
Despite the plastic clicking sound the buttons make, it is obviously better than the mk2. The knobs are 360 and this is bette
5.0 out of 5 stars It deserves the accolades given by professional musicians.
The perfect mini mobile controller to complement my Hoton Ampero Multi Effects Pedal and BOSS RC-30 Loop Pedal.
My principal instrument is electric violin, but also play guitar, mandolin, and ukulele.
This Akai mini controller is perfect for creating rhythms and backing loops for my solo performance as a busker.
It’s fun to play with but also a serious piece of high quality kit for any musician using pedals, or a composer who needs a mini keyboard that’s compact and has a rich pallette of sounds.
The keyboard feels well made. It’s NOT a guitar pedal that’s used on the ground. The AKAI is an instrument that will be used and treated with care and respect like any other keyboard. So, it’s build quality is comparable to larger keyboards like my Yamaha.
I had no problem connecting the AKAI to my Smartphone and Tablet using a Piano App.
Whilst the controller is designed to be used with a DAW on MAC or PC, I like being able to learn, practice, and experiment with chord inversions and progressions on the go, as I recently started learning keyboard with Pianote. The AKAI is not a substitute for a digital piano or keyboard but it’s a very useful tool with a lot of potential.
IMPORTANT! Don’t use Bluetooth to connect to a smartphone or tablet as you’ll have latency problems. Use a cable and there’s no latency issue. (The age and quality of your PC, smartphone or tablet could issues. But it works fine with my Huawei P20 Pro, DELL XPS 17, and Neocore Tablet.
There are plenty of YouTube videos that provide excellent instruction and reviews by professional musicians who give in depth, hands on analysis of the keyboard. Every review I’ve watched and read is full of praise for this MIDI Controller. Another ‘best buy’ for me.
