How Does It Work?These filters work on the same principle as internal power-head filters, but are positioned outside the tank and draw water into the filter through an inlet tube and return the water via an outlet tube. The outlet tube is fitted with a spray bar to increase aeration within your tank. These type of external filters avoid the need for an unsightly filter inside the tank and the media capacity is much larger than internal filters and they are therefore suitable for much larger tanks. after 5 days ,So far there have been no leaks and my tank water is now crystal clear , I will print out the product information Document for myself . This is added on the description page for you .

I suggest the people with leakage problems have not read product information document
I think as long as I stick to the routine in it then I should never have any problems

Brilliant filter . Quiet . So easy to prime too , couple of plunges and it was filling up nicely . Couple more and it was back round to tank . Runs very quiet (I did expect some noise with the reviews but seems I’ve got a good one ). Running it with Ef booster too.

Filter was well packaged and the instructions on how to set it up are clear. The separate parts for the inlet and outlets are well designed so that you can make it fit a variety of different sized tanks. The hoses are a great length and should have no problem connecting up even if you keep filter beside rather than underneath the filter. The filter is fairly quiet- (there is of course a slight hum but this is only noticeable when right next to it). There is a good amount and variety of filter media provided. My tank (42gallon with 2 fancy goldfish) was really struggling with algae as I had moved it into the conservatory and the extra light really made it bloom! I did just a 10% water change and installed the filter (kept my original filter running for now too whilst new one cycles). Utterly flabbergasted that within 5 hours of the filter running the water turned from pea soup to lovely clear and green free! Was not expecting it to work so fast. The cost of replacement filter pads for this also seems good value. The cost of the filter itself is extremely good value. So far am really pleased with my purchase (date installed 2nd may 2021) will update review once it has run a couple of months.
he filter came in perfect condition was quiet happy as had seen poeple writing reviews getting damaged ones or mispressed as also warrey as it is chinese but have not long set the filter up was very easy and the filter is very efficent and very happy with it.
i replaced the carbon and buffed the filter with sponges and more filter wool to give it the edge on the tank and after few hours was crystal clear

I line everything about this filter with one caveat: the inlet and outlet pipes have a fixed extension which means you absolutely HAVE to have a completely open-topped aquarium for them to fit. Mine has a fixed glass shelf at each end with a sliding glass opening in the middle, meaning I couldn’t use the inlet or outlet pipes provided unless I wanted to start cutting glass. In the end I attached the pump and enclosed hoses to my existing hoses and inlet/outlet pipes using hose converter attachments (the hoses were different diameters) and it seems to work fine. Pretty quiet (no louder than my old pump which was 1/3 the size) and seems to be keeping my tank cleane
Very impressed ! Bought as back up to my Oase Biomaster 600 and It’s working better than my Oase . Far easier to start ,got a good flow and far cheaper. It also made my mind up what to buy for my 250 ltr tank in my fish room. I know the filters have had negative comments but I’m pleased I took the chance.
Price is great can’t complain at that. Flow is strong and UV light works well. Fully customisable to what you want to the inside. I would 100% say go to you tube and check out pond guru pimp my filter for this filter. THIS IS A MUST!!!!
The reason why. He shows you how best to set it up to get the best results. You will need to buy some more bio media and sponges but trust me the results are good. The kit it comes with isn’t really good enough to get the best results. Incorrect tray order will cause your issues so if your new to this check his review first.
My set up is
Bottom – ceramic media

Tray 3 – bio media
Tray 4 – fine sponge/chemi pure blue/beneficial bacteria balls/crushed coral
Tray 1 is at the bottom then works it’s way up. Crushed coral because I got cichlids.
The bad
Build quality isn’t that good. It seems ok but can damage if your use force. So be careful. Even instructions say get spare parts just in case you damage it….that’s not good if they are saying get spare parts. Don’t let that put you off I still think it’s good.
Read mixed reviews on these, but it suited my budget and was what I was after, so took the chance. I’m so happy I did! It’s so easy to set up and take care of, even I haven’t struggled. It could probably do with a little more suction as there’s a few bits floating that I would have thought would have gone by now, but definitely does the job and I’m very happy with it!
All round grate pump, a little noisy but I can cope with that. I was disappointed though to fined out upon opening it that it is not supplied with the surface skimmer as advertised
A few difficulties assembling. One of the pipe grips on the inflow/outflow taps has done up but won’t undo again, completely jammed. Other than that everything seems to be working fine. Noise level was that of a noisy fridge for a while, a deep bass hum but I put a cheap foam mat under the unit and it’s now very quiet.

Having to rewrite review. My filter does not seem to expel all air trapped. I have followed all the tips on all pond solutions website and still is making a loud noise. Sounds like air is still trapped. Been trying to remove air for several hours and still air is trapped

This product after trying so many cheap products is a god send. For only 50 quid my 50 gallon tank is crystal clear and the fish have thrived a great product.
Purchased this as i couldnt get to a store and this would be delivered next day. I was dubious upon placing order but pleasantly surprised once recieved, i would and will when necessary buy again.
I like this product, very quite. Difficult to fit onto a tank with a fitted lid but I sorted it in the end.
Had a hiccup when it got delivered as it came damaged. I reported it and it got resolved quickly new one came out and they collected the broken one. Functions great! Recommend you pump out the filter with better media but works great and my 150litre tank has never looked so clea
This is a really good and effective canister, nice selection of tubes and flow heads. Had an ehime before but this just as good and less than half the price. Very quite for the size and hardly audible when cabinet door shut.
Easy to disconnect and self primer makes reconnection a doddle. Highly recommend.

This is quite big but was very easy to set up. Quite quiet. It cleared the tank in about a day and it is now much clearer than ever before. Not had to clean it yet so let’s hope that is as easy.
Nearly 2 weeks gone since delivered and so far it does the job. Hopefully it will last long. First picture taken at 4.26pm, 2nd picture taken at 7.44pm same day. Very satisfied with this purchase as my Cumberland turtle is. Highly recommended.

Extremely happy with this filter. I have a 200lt goldfish set up and previously had 3 internal filters as a temp measure, they were very noisy, didn’t filter as well as they should, this is much quieter and filters much more water per hour, waters a lot clearer and the fish seem happier. Plus without the 3 internal filters they have quite a bit more swimming room.
Arrived quickly however I have an annoying buzzing coming from the unit, I have tried to remove all of the air from the system but after a few days the buzzing cones back, not sure how to correct it, also there seems to be not as much jet as I was expecting given the size of the uni
This filter was great for a Blagdon 400 lt patio pond, really does the job, along with the EF2 external filter booster. The real problem with it though, is after a couple of weeks, the UV glass had gone all misty, so I contacted the manufacturer, and they would not give any advice at all, just said it was down to Amazon to sort it, which I found very disconcerting, they were all too willing to sell me spares, but not to give advice as to why the problem occurred?
So to round things up, the filter is great, but don’t expect any help from the maker, if you get problems.
Bought this for a green algae problem in my tank and I’m very impressed. Took a week but now the water is crystal clear. Tank is a 200l.
Only thing I’m not sure about is the hoses to the filter. My last filter had in-line valves that I could close so removing to clean the filter only resulting in a few drops of water leaking out. Time will tell how this one works out. All in all very good value for money and pretty good quality.

Seriously if you need a decent filter this is the one for you! We have a 280ltr tank and have been struggling for months with algae bloom. Filter arrived quickly and installed mid day on Friday. Today is Monday and just check out the pictures ! Do not buy anything else ! No water changes no treatment. Just this awesome bit of kit !
1st one 1 got had a clasp damaged. Replacement took a week to get. But over all its fantastic . Just a little buzz form the machine.

This filter is easy to put together and works well, turning over a lot of water.
With the weather forecast predicting sever cold on the way I had noticed several baby koi carp in my pond so I managed to catch 10 and take them indoors into a 20 gallon tank with a filter for a 100 gallon Aquarium. Within 2 weeks the water started to go white then green, (See Pic1) Daily one third water changes did not help, the only thing I could think of doing was to buy a bigger tank but that was going to take time for water conditioning & set up Plus somewhere to put it, I already have a 100 gallon Marine Aquarium. …. I ordered this 1000L/H Plus 9W UV Light filter in the hope that it would at least reduce this cloudiness. I was more than pleased, after four days the Green was gone (See Pic.2) then by day ten I had sparkling cleat water (Pic.3) I can Highly recommend this Filter.
Great filter great capacity and power, love the filtration however some people may also like to get additional filter foam which isn’t included before setting up. I know that is an individuals choice but for those buying this it may save some time in purchasing together. A very good filter well worth the money.
Everything great with the exception of the spray bar even though it works just didn’t seem the same quality as the pump.

Well read lots of reviews of this filter arrived today working within the hour. looks as good quality as a fluval I am running on a 260 lt tank fluval one end this new filter the other, only time will tell but well pleased at moment primed easy I just put a bowl under tank pre fitted the feed pipes then removed sucked water tru replaced pipe on valve over bowl turned off refitted valve to filter opened valve up filled filter fitted outlet pipe to other end valve switched pump on voila totally quiet all I can see fluval 406 around 175 this 69 you do your maths cheers kb

Reason for purchasing the product:
I have a 60 L aquarium, and three fishes only, but the water was never clean after we moved our flat and two angel fishes started to be very stressed from the water as I believe the tap-safe drops where not helping to get rid of the things in the new water and algae were growing fast and I had no hope and I had to make %60 water change every other day, still no hope at all and couldn’t figure out what is wrong with the water in the new flat. I had only 3 fishes in the 60L aquarium and three fishes doesn’t produce that much waste to make the water like this and before moving i had to only change water %30 every week. So I decided to give this filter a try and I was very happy with the result and here is the filter review.

Filter Media:
I must say I never used such a huge filter because I am a beginner, however, it was very easy to put together. The filter came with the inside filter including (active carbon: which is good to absorb the chemicals in the water) ( bio-balls: which are necessary to allow the useful Bactria to live in the filter) and (Ceramic Rings: also to allow allow beneficial bacteria to colonise, and biologically filter your aquarium water – removing ammonia and nitrite. ) all of these three parts are placed separately in mesh bags which allow you to easy add them and take them out when you need to clean the filter. also it comes with three foam bases for the filter to add them underneath these three bags.
First when I was checking the filter media i was a bit worried that the foam is very thing and was not sure it will help to clean the water and was thinking i may need to purchase different things and add to the filter (as there is enough space to add whatever you need) but I was wrong I gave it a try and is perfect as it is and you don’t need any additional things to add to the media, just add those and you are ready to go!
Important thing to remember is to wash all of these things thoroughly for few minutes before adding them, as the carbon will release black material and then when all are clean add them and fix the media.
the UV lamp is already fixed and you don’t need to do anything to it.
( Filter media are very good and more than enough to add to the filter, they all does the job very good and clean the water perfectly, don’t worry about it at all and just clean them before you add them and start the filter)
Assembling the Filter:
The hoses that came with the filter are very good quality, you can tell when you see them that they are thick and heavy duty and very easy to fit together and add to the filter, also the instructions are very simple and easy to follow and in no time you fill find yourself added the filter to the aquarium. However, be careful you need to make sure that the filter is working before you add it to the aquarium and the instructions doesn’t say that. Here is how to you do it.
Making the filter start before adding it to the aquarium (essential):
First fill the filter with water from the aquarium before you close it and make sure you fill it all, then close it and add it to the aquarium ( I however didn’t add it to the quarium at this stage, I used a bucket of water from the aquarium and connected the hoses to it) then push the pump on the filter as the instructions says, hold and relase every five seconds and then just keep pushing it fast until it starts. Once the filter starts running, it means it no longer has any air inside the media (don’t worry if it is making sounds, these sounds are because there is still air inside the media, and it will stop once all air is gone.). Once all air is gone I connected the filter to the aquarium and started it. Finally the filter is working perfectly and once all air is gone, the filter stopped making any sound ! it is just perfect.
For my 60L tank, the water was so clean after less than 24 hours ! it is amazing and crystal and everyone comes to visit us keeps telling me that they never seen a fish tank this clean with this quality water before !
The whole filter :
filter is so good and silent, the sound it makes is not annoying and can be muted if you create a cover for it from an acoustic foam, however I didn’t do that as I didn’t feel any need and for me it is very very silent compared to a small filter I used to have before.
Now the water is crystal clear and I only change water once a week and %20 just to make sure I remove the nitrate and keep the balance.
Due to the size of my fish tank and little number of fishes I have I only clean the filter once every 6 months, and that includes changing carbon and UV light.
I am very happy and proud of the water quality and I think the fish tank is now very very easy to maintain thanks to this filter, and I really advice all beginners with small-medium size of fish tank not to be afraid that this is made for big fish tank and get it as it really makes the water clean and minimize the suffering for beginners and allow you to enjoy your new hobby !.
Have this with nearly 2 yrs I think at this stage still very quite and efficient.

Sadly the UV stopped working after a few months (wasn’t the bulb), but AllPondSolutions have done a brilliant job at resolving this with little impact to my tank.
The customer service is excellent and for that reason alone, I will happily buy their products again.
The only issue I saw after installing this was an increase in the tank temp, possibly due to the UV lamp. This was easy to rectify but dropping the heater back a few degrees.
Brought this for my 3ft fish tank as my other pumps were noisy and a pain to clean , this one is a lot less noisy, and better to clean . The pipes are quite chunky so take some bending into place behind the fish tank . I use a hose pipe to clean the filters and the pipes Also got a long wire rod with a small brush on the end to clean the pipes out and the dirt builds up in them as well . You have to make sure the top is on the filter ok as when I primed it the first time the water poured out the top, so now I put it in a large bucket to check it doesn’t leak first , it is a bit scary at first but I soon put it together and my tank does look cleaner . hope this helps anyone who is thinking of buying this

Im absolutely over the moon with this. Have been running it now for a couple of months and im amazed with the crystal clear water. I checked the media the other day to see if it needed cleaning and its looks as good as the day i started to use it. I would highly recommend this to anybody with tanks in excess of 150L .
This is a well thought out piece of kit. Aquarists who have a similar product design will know how difficult it can be to remove lid, this has a handle!! Also I was surprised to see so much media, lots of it. The surface skimmer is an added bonus too. I have never seen one on an external filter before…Nice one “All Pond Solutions”

I can’t rate this filter highly enough. The clarity of my tanks water was ok before using this filter, but now it is crystal clear. The unit is easy to setup and has a good build quality, in fact I was not expecting it to be anywhere near the quality that it is, not when it’s only 74.99, so I was impressed when I took it out of the box.
If you are on a budget and need a good filter, hell, even if you’re not on a budget, get this. You will, like me, be pleased as punch!
I genuinely do not understand who complains about this product, it is really good indeed! I’ve setup a 3 stage filtration system in combination with the All Pond Solutions EF External Filter Booster Supplimentary Canister 1.2L and my water is unbelievably clear (not that it wasn’t before, but you can definitely tell the difference!). Basically I’ve put a 3 level (coarse, medium, fine) mechanical filtration on the 1.2L Booster, then I have a super duper fine (two sheets) sponge at the very bottom of the APS 1400L/H with active carbon (the one that comes with the filter) on top of it for chemical filtration, then I have two additional stages of biological filtration using BIOMEDIA ULTRA MINI. Needless to mention the media that come with the filter is rubbish and you shall pay as much attention to the media as you do for your external filter.
Of course there are some down sides too!
Packaging sucks, in fact one of the plug needle was bend during transport. Nothing that a good wrench wasn’t able to straighten though, but still that is a very bad user experience. If APS would put a little more effort in packaging, this product would have nothing less than any other high end filter (I own a Eheim too).
Actually, if you consider pricing, it has a lot more than high end products.
One more thing, always put your mechanical filtration first (bottom) and your biological media after (2nd and 3rd canister) and both the filter itself and your valuable media will last “forever”

I bought one slightly larger than I needed because as well as having Guppies, Clown Loach’s and Corries I have a VERY BIG Pleco and they are really messy, but this pump deals with it and keeps the tank water crystal clear. I would recommend this to everyone
I got this pump for my 110 litre tank which I have 2 map turtles, they were far too dirty for my old pump and I lost a lot of my fish due to poor water quality. Within hours the water was crystal clear and a week later it’s keeping it beautifully clean, the turtles and remaining fish love the fast flow.
Now it did take me over an hours to set up, and some reviews said there was a lack of information, this has been rectified and there is a small instruction manual now. My main issue is that there is no way enough pipes to set up for alternative tanks like mine. Especially as most of the connections need to be underwater to form a seal, not very good when you have a partially filled aquarium. I managed to bodge the connections together using pipe and bits from my old pump. This is something that really does need looking into. Also be aware this is a very large pump, it only just fitted in my cupboard.
Other than that priming was pretty easy, just make sure you get a perfect seal first, I pumped water all over the carpet at one point. But for the great price and quality of this pump I would recommend it. If it wasn’t for the poor selection of pipe attachments it would have been a five star review.
I bought this to replace an Eheim external filter which was not coping with the demands of my aquarium. This new filter and its UV light have kept my tank sparkling since I installed it. It was a great price and offers amazing filtration. Maintenance is also very easy. Totally recommend this product.
his is a great filter it is keeping my large tank crystal clear. it is very quiet and the UV helps. the size is a little intimidating as i didnt think it would fit in the cupboard but it just does would recommend this to anyone as it also comes with the media and all hoses and connectors.

Bought this after reading all the good reviews. Prompt delivery, however I had a few problems when setting it up, but after contacting Customer Services the problem was resolved. Seems the problem was down to me and not the product. We have been really pleased with the operation of this external filter, altogether a lot better than our previous internal filters. We would highly recommend this product.
This is a good filter especially for the money.
There is only two downsides to this filter.
1, The tubing flattens very easily (we have a partially filled turtle tank and the intake tubing was too long so had to modify the intake.)
2, The seal around the Main Filter lets some air into the filter body and is flushed out into the tank after a few minutes. Obviously not a good thing but it doesn’t hinder the concept or reliability of what this product does.

There should be 2 net packs of each media and enough plastic balls to completely fill a whole tray. There’s a filter pad in each of the 3 media trays.
After 6 weeks, everything still works fine and the unit has just begun to be (microbiologically) fully functional, after it had a head start from an existing filter system being paired in (no undergravel filtration).
Over this time the throughput has fallen, quite substancially.
The UV lamp glass housing needs regular cleaning to remove any material on its outside (watery side).
But it has coped well with two (4-6″) greedy fancy goldfish and several mountain cloud minnows.
Would buy again. Good price, quiet and well sealed with at least a 1m head on it.
The product lacks instructions on which levels in the filter barrel the various medias should be at.
UPDATE: After nearly 2 years this filter was decomissioned due to daughter losing interest in fancy goldfish (wants a “Nemo” instead). So currently in storage awaiting revival in a salt water system. I refurbished the entire filter before storage, it still works like a dream, no leaks, full pressure, even the UV tube still works. Very pleased.
The actual filter is brilliant. The water clarity is amazingly crystal clear. I cannot give a downside to the filter but must say that the cheap plastic pipework lets it down. We had a couple of damaged parts and immediately contacted customer service. They were great and sent the replacement parts the next day. The fixings that hold the pipework to the tank are not very good (they didn’t hold the pipework where it needed to be held), we went out and bought more rigid suction holders and this solved the problem. Other than these little niggles, the filter is great for the price we paid.
The shipping claimed to be 5 – 10 days (i think) and it arrived within 2 days which was fantastic.
This model is slightly different (to the previous) with a handle on the top so was a little unexpected but was really well received.

I’ve had a number of external filters – this being the most silent. For those not having had external filters before, this was reasonably easy to setup with a modicom of imagination as the instructions were a little lacking. The instructions/pictures on the box will help.
Priming is simple, which could be a bit if a chore with previous filters, and the built in UV is a bonus.
Maybe I should’ve researched the size though prior to purchase, as it’s (just over) 10 inch square by 17 inch high (to the hose connectors), which is larger then the space I had in mind to site it. But that’s my fault.
