This patio heater is basic in price but is good as quality as what you could buy in a garden centre. Please note the height. Its about 7 foot tall once the canopy is fitted so is way too big for ie greenhouse.

This is possibly only relevant in the UK and was applicable in Oct 2020 – but make sure you are able to source a gas cylinder before you buy this excellent product. I went to 6 retailers including B&Q, Wickes and a few garages before I found someone prepared to sell me a propane gas cylinder. Apparently there’s a shortage and you can get existing cylinders refilled but getting hold of new ones is very difficult. I managed to fit a Calor 13kg green propane patio gas bottle.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis review refers to the stainless steel version – bought September 2020.

I read all previous reviews so was aware of all of the issues raised in them. I started by tackling the ‘blue film’ – it came off pretty easily – peel it off as you would if it were clingfilm. I filled the base with gravel ( I had a spare bag)
I bought a 13kg cylinder (blue) of Flogas butane and a compatible butane regulator from the Flogas supplier – so no issues whether i should be buying a 20mm or 21mm regulator. The regulator is push- fit on top of the cylinder.
Instructions were fairly clear and understandable so the assembly was straightforward.
The 13kg cylinder fitted into the space no problem. I put a square piece of chipboard on the base so the cylinder rests on that rather than the 3 screws that fix the 3 ‘arms’ of the cage to the base The instruction book indicated that it would take a 15kg cylinder but didn’t want to take that chance in view of other reviews.
It lit first time……..then blew out. Realised I had to push in and hold the ‘On’ switch for longer than suggested before releasing it. Works a treat but have only used it once. No reason to suspect this is not an excellent purchase but its early days. That is the only reason I have given 4 stars rather than 5.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHad a long wait for this heater to come back into stock but although I have only used it briefly I have been impressed with its performance.
The heater was quite easy to assemble and the added bonus is it came with the regulator and gas tube fittings and the two small wheels for moving it around make life a little easier.
When you first light up the heating foil element there is a little smoke which soon burns off but this is normal.
    Overall well worth the Money

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersQuality appears to be good and gives off good heat to a wide area. Couple of points though: It is described as bronze but is more like black with some bronze speckles on it – you have to go up close to it to see that it is bronze. Not a major problem for me. Secondly is that if you decide to use Calor gas bottles, please note that the 13kg cylinder comes in two slightly different designs, despite looking identical. One has a slightly shorter brass neck (the brass bit that comes out of the gas bottle to which you attach the heater’s regulator) and that is the one you want for this patio heater. The one with the slightly longer brass neck will NOT fit inside this patio heater (is about 2mm too tall with the regulator attached). My Calor supplier was unaware there was a difference so make sure you hand pick the right bottle to fit this heater!

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersGot this the 1st week in April where the price was lower than now so a bargain in my eyes atm. The assembly of the heater was very easy to do even by myself just take your time and plan it out. Regarding the gas bottle size issue where some people have had trouble fitting the bottle I went to the gas bottle size chart on google for a size for the 13kg propane and the 13kg green patio gas bottle and both are the same size. The heater came with a push on gas regulator for the green patio gas type bottle so I got that type of bottle from the Calour gas site which only took just over 2hrs from placing the order for the bottle to delivery so was fantastic .Anyway back to the getting the bottle fitted..all I did was put the bottle on the base and bolted the 3 side bars into postion and fitted like that and was no proplem getting the bottle in and out again .Remember when fitting the avenger shield as I called it 🙂 as it looks just like it to the top of the heater do it outside as might be a problem getting it through a doorway as it is wide. Ive only had it working for just under 2 hrs on full and when I checked the gas bottle fill gauge it hadn’t moved at all . Everybody loved it when it was on and I will buy anothe

    Fantastic garden heate

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersExcellent, well built and smart-looking. Very easy to assemble.
There are a number of questions that other people have asked about which gas cylinder to use. After some investigation it seems that one that fits perfectly is the ’13kg green patio gas cylinder’ that Calor make. BUT there are actually TWO DIFFERENT SIZES of this! You need to ask the supplier to give you one with the SHORTER regulator attachment. This allows the bottle and regulator to fit perfectly into the base. If you get the one with the LONGER attachment it may be too big and certainly won’t fit easily. This observation probably explains why some people have described the fit as difficult or very tight.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThis is a good value product having paid only 84.95 for it. However there are a couple of minor problems with it. Firstly if you use a 13KG Calor patio gas tank you can’t put the tank easily inside the unit as the nuts and bolts that make up the frame get in the way.The frame could do with being 5mm higher. You can get the gas into the unit but only at an angle and that makes dropping the outer casing over it very tight. Other makes of gas canister may fit better but the Calor one doesn’t. Secondly on a breezy day the heat from the burner is reduced because the wind blows straight through. On my previous model there was an inner cone to the burner which stopped the wind from being blown through. This made it more effective on breezy days. Heat output on still days is excellent.
Overall a very good product for the money and I would purchase again, but shame that someone didn’t check that the 13KG UK gas canister would fit inside more easily

This is an excellent lamp for the money. Instructions are easy and supplied bolt set all laid out well. I did mine outside to give more room. Get your gas bottle before you buy this and it comes with the push on attachment for the bottle not screw in. Get a small pair of step ladders to do the top deflector at the end.

Knowing what all these are like I greased all bolts as they will rust especially the top but be careful as the grease will melt under the high temperatures.

Bit of a faff putting the top shield together But nothing hard. Recommended

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersSpring is approaching and the prospect of once again being able to sit in the garden in the late afternoon and evening is tantalisingly close. I got this heater for a relatively small patio (about 3x6m) and in hindsight it might have been overkill. You get a lot for your money with this ‘basics’ heater. It stands well over 2m and has a surprisingly high quality finish. The base is reassuringly hefty, although I wouldn’t leave it out next to anything breakable, particularly not here in Aberdeen. At 18kg you may need help moving and assembling it. There’s a very convenient wheel assembly that has allowed me to move it into a more sheltered spot when not in use. I’ve had it out for almost a month now and haven’t seen any signs of rust or damage, though as mentioned, it has mostly been out of the weather under an overhang.

I was worried that the heat would simply escape upwards without actually warming everyone below, but I’ve found it warms the patio very effectively. Still a little cool to convince people to come outside but I think when the weather hits around 8 or 9C we’ll be able to enjoy a drink with the heater on. I haven’t used it enough to expend the 20lb cylinder yet, so I’m not sure what the running cost will be.

I’m impressed with the quality and effectiveness of the heater for the low price and hope to use it a lot more as the days get lighter.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSurprised at the heat radius this thing will warm even on a cold winters night around 5C. It really was astounding as I thought it would be useful only on a summers evening when the temperatures dip to 10 or 12C perhaps, it’s nice to be wrong sometimes!

Once setup (which was about as easy as I thought, only a couple of small niggles to deal with), it stood nice and tall and once the gas bottle was in the base it was weighty enough for even the strong winds of late to not take it over, I do have it tied up against the wall now just to prevent any sudden gusts taking out my glass patio table though – better to be safe!

Igniting and controlling the unit is a doddle too, I quite like the bronze finish too, goes nice with some of our bronze and copper planters on our decking. Our decking it 3×4 meters square and with this in the middle everyone on the decking was warm. Well accomplished and a great price point for such a unit. Hope it stands the test of time but so far very impressed.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt’s been a good few years since last using a Gas patio heater – The wind decided to blow our old over, so we moved onto a shorter and very expensive Jupiter Infrared Patio heater, which we have been using ever since. It is a better heater in general and produces a lot more heat. However, it needs to be near a plug socket and there are occasions when a gas powered heater is required when sitting out at the bottom of our garden.

This AmazonBasics heater is well made, reasonably sturdy and features a large 360 heating element with hood. It’s commercial, so I was hoping it would be better than my old Gas heater and thankfully it is. It emits a good amount of heat and whilst it’s still not quite as good as the infrared heater, it’s not far off, and obviously benefits from having 360 heat rather than 110 of the infrared heater.

Overall, I’m happy with this and can easily recommend it.

  62. CliftonWhitmer says:

On receiving an Amazon basic patio heater I was kind of expecting something that looks a bit cheap but worked ok. In actual fact there is nothing basic about this at all. It’s a very heavy solid construction and actually looks very stylish indeed.

I did need help in putting this together because it is quite big and heavy but maybe a man would be able to do it alone. Once constructed it is very easy to use with extremely simple heat controls.

I did find the gas quite expensive but think it will last quite a while.

The heat from this even on a very cold evening was surprisingly warm for those sitting around it, although of course the minute you turn it off you feel the cold immediately.

This attracted lots of compliments, and I don’t think you would ever think that this was from a basics range.
I think this is a very stylish good quality patio heater and would recommend

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve never had a patio heater before and have often looked at then and decorative ‘fire pits’ a ways of making the garden a bit more usable in the colder weather but have never plumped for one. I have colleagues with ‘fire pits’ and neighbours with patio heaters but I could never decide which to go for.
When I saw this Amazon Basics patio heater I really wanted to give it a try. I’ve had Amazon Basics range before but for tech items not for the garden. This is a big patio heater and I suppose the word ‘commercial’ should have tipped me off to that! It takes a little bit of Ariel to get it put together but wedge it is assembled it is a bit of industrial inspired garden art …
Once assembled all you need is a bottle of gas from your local supplier or garage (whichever is handier) and you are ready to sit back and relax in a garden which will be made more comfortable -heat wise- by this patio heater.
I think this will really come into its own when the weather picks up a bit more but there is still a chill in the air. It will be perfect for relaxing by yourself or with the family and excellent for keeping guests warm if you are entertaining outdoors. It is, as I said previously, rather large so be sure you have enough space on your patio for it and also for storage. It would have been great to have had a cover included but there isn’t so I’ll have to start the search for one that’ll fit and provide good protection – now I’ve finally got something to keep my patio warm I want to make sure it is protected from the elements!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is billed as a “commercial” heater and it is certainly a hefty beast. It took more assembling than I’d anticipated and the styling is quite rugged but fully put together it is really rather a handsome thing. I paid 30 for a bottle of gas from our local garage and am now waiting for a few people to join me for a drink in the rather cold garden, so we can test the heater. I have to admit I’ve never been sure about patio heaters but I’m not sure about being cold either. Be aware that you will need to have somewhere to store this, or at the least buy a plastic cover to go over it.
