This product arrived on time and in good order. It functioned as described by the seller right away and has continued to do so since purchase.
THe reason for four star rather than five is simple. It does what it is supposed to do and nothing more that warrants a five star rating.
Highly recommended.
Brought this product as I needed a new updated USB hub 3.0 for my laptop. Really good product, it works really well with my 2 external hard drives, Mouse and keyboard. It also works well for transferring files from my laptop to external hard drives
I would really reccomend this product to people that just have 1 or 2 USB build in ports on their desktop computer or laptop as it recognises when you plug it in instantly to your pc and it works really well with external hardives by transferring files reallyfast, and works well with USB mouses and keyboards.
I would definitely repurchase this product if I needed a replacement USB po
The Anker hub is correctly rated and performs consistently and reliably well. See the photo for the power rating, keyboard and mouse plugged in, and charging an external battery pack, the hub is delivering the expected power of around 1A
To avoid misunderstanding wired USB keyboards usually draw less than 50mA a similar for a wired USB mouse. In my case both draw about 50ma in total.
Keep in mind this is a non powered hub, and connecting an external hard drive that requires power should be connected to a dedicated socket, not a hub.
Worth noting my external battery will charge at much higher than 1A using a dedicated power supply, the Anker hub charges at the exact same rate I would expect from a USB socket on a computer.
In summary, a great value product, portable & lightweight.
I note some reviews are less than impressed with the capability and they may have thought this was a powered hub, don’t make the same mistake!
###### UPDATE ######
Someone pointed out this review was most helpful and were glad they saw my review
So where you are short of USB ports then this device is exactly what I recommend to connect mouse / keyboard / camera, don’t rely on it for powering hard drives etc. as outlined above.
Like almost everything by Anker that I have owned, this is well made, looks good and does exactly what it’s supposed to. I use it on a Microsoft Surface with only one USB port and it gives me the expansion I need. Perfect!
While WFH needed extra ports on my laptop use this Mouse. Headset dongle, Keyboard and PKI key, leaving ports available to charge Phone / Headphones etc. A small light cheap option. Leave all the dongles plugged into it and just connect it to the PC.
Portable and efficient; slim compact and looks nice. Good positive connections for USB3; excellent fir use with my MacBook Air (2015) especially since export photos to ssd.
I like to use a trackball mouse so the more usb connections the better. This is a great addition, easily stored; recommended
I bought this so that when connecting my MacBook to an external monitor I don’t have to disconnect and reconnect multiple peripherals (keyboard, webcam, etc) every time I move the MacBook from its desktop cradle. Now I leave everything connected to the Anker and just plug-in its single USB output. Perfectly fit for purpose. Build quality is OK. At least one or the ports supplies power (it’s currently running my USB desk lamp). Haven’t checked speeds but all connections seem good.
Bought because my PC has all the USB connection at the bottom to this solves the hassle of having to move it every time to plug something in. Currently have all four slots in use (including a Bluetooth dongle and keyboard dongle and microphone and have had no issue with them running at the same time. It also works with chargers as well.
A means to increase the number of USB 3.0 ports on a PC, it is bas-powered and therefore not suitable for devices requiring high power levels e.g. most external hard drives or for recharging anything although portable (non mains-powered) external hard drives and SSDs should work perfectly. The Anker 4-port Ultra Slim Hub is from a brand known for such devices and previously chosen for powered hubs.
This was selected not to expand the number of USB 3.0 ports but their USB 2.0 equivalents for use on a laptop having just one such port plus a couple of USB 3.0 ports; using an external mouse and keyboard on that laptop was not possible as the faster USB 3.0 ports were almost permanently used with other devices. The obvious choice of a similar USB 2.0 hub was previously tried and found unusable as many of the products used a chip proven to be faulty and causing intermittent functionality of connected devices as well as other usage issues.
In the context of its use, this functions perfectly!
Works fine and just what I needed it for. The only improvement would be switches to turn each USB on/off rather than having to unplug them but it serves the purpose as is.
Was looking to buy a cheaper hub as did not need USB 3.0, however noticed that this Anker product has very good reviews and have previous purchased from Anker and not been let down. The product is very good and worked straightaway with my Lenovo Yoga Laptop (works computer), even allowed me to use the hub to plug in monitors using my Microsoft Surface (my personal pc). I now have a dock so don’t use the hub everyday but its a very decent product and keep it close by as worked with everything I have tried so far.
This arrived very quickly from Amazon but It did not work as expected. I contacted Anker directly for help and they responded immediately with ideas to try to resolve the problem. Nothing they suggested would make it work properly so they very quickly sent me a replacement, which works perfectly. I was very impressed with the service from Amazon, and especially from Anker, who could not have been more helpful. The hub is compact, light, and very fast in operation. The only criticism I have is that the space between the sockets should have been wider as it is impossible to fit some of the wider USB sticks together. This is also a problem the USB stick manufacturers should address as there is no need for them to be so wide. The slimmer the better.
Well built solid device. It is usb 3.0, so it is fast.
I have this product for more than 2 years and I never had any issues with it. There is no sign of usage, it is in perfect state.
Works as it should. I recommend to anyone that wants speed and durability.
You have to be careful that you don’t plug anything too power hungry into it, but I’ve got 2 external drives (2 x 2.5 inch satas in caddies) keyboard and mouse. Works well for that and transfer speeds to those drives are showing USB 3 speeds. I bought a second as I was so pleased with it. For those complaining about ports giving problems, I can’t really understand that. I’ve got it plugged into a server and it’s been running 2 weeks solid, running 2 external drives without fail.
The Anker 4-Port USB 3.0 Ultra Slim Data Hub is just one of a number of Anker products I have purchased over time and I have to admit, I’m not disappointed with the data hub as yet. I doubt I will be either if I’m honest.
Some manufacturers nail the design of a product perfectly then back it up by manufacturing it with quality materials. Anker appear to be doing this time and time again.
I have the hub plugged in to one of the superspeed USB ports at the back of the console. I’ve connected the ps4 camera via it’s adapter and the VR headset, both working grand. Additionally it charges my dualsense controller, or both move controllers. Shame I didn’t opt for a model with additional ports but as a solution for PS VR I would recommend this as a must buy!
Great quality product the just works out of the box where other more expensive products have failed.
Anyway, the hub is very thin and light. i would have preferred in to be heavier sou will probably weigh it down and put some rubber feet on it. As a product to stick in a laptop bag it might be spot on but I needed something to avoid having to switch data cables between 4 endpoints and so this seemed to fit the bill. Since I would not be changing cables often, none of the above are a real issue.
A longer cable would be better for a desktop product but I had extensions. I havent had an issue with power but all endpoints are self powered. i just need to remember not to try to charge from it.
not as solid feeling as my other Anker products but probably better as a laptop hub.
This is an excellent value-for-money hub that effectively offers 3 extra USB 3.0 ports (taking into account the obvious use of an existing port to which it is connected). You need to be careful that your computer’s power unit can cope with multiple attachments being in use at the same time. If not , data transfer rate will slow. Recommended.
The product is nice its light portable and nicely packeged but i didnt find out about the 900 power rating now for my use i dont really care becouse i just need to plug in usb memory wich its all fine but if your going to use this for charging or maybe a webcamrea then you need to be aware that not all ports might work if your consuming alot of power. i did some testing and a lightup keybored a gaming mouse and 2 usb sticks work as a charm with no issue’s so thats all fine. but if your buying this to charge your phone and have a active webcam that might max the power out and you wont be able to use both.
maybe next time specify in th discription. 🙂
Today it would be odd indeed if a computer peripheral did not work and of course this is no different. It works out of the box and it never crossed my mind that it would not.
Modern tech is indeed incredible.
So, what really matters is other things like actual quality of product and that’s why I bought an Anker hub. The name is recognised and as I’ve had other items from them I now they last a long time. Practically forever really.
Design is slim, easy on the eye and light enough to not be noticed when carrying it in a bag.
Overall, top quality.
My laptop didn’t recognise my phone regardless I had the latest upgrade of the software. When I connected through the port, my phone and the laptop started talking. I assume there is a problem in the PC but if you don’t have money to get it fixed, just buy this item and all is sorted. Many thanks for the seller and thanks for minding the packaging. Well done guys!
I have bought a few items from Anker and so had no hesitation in buying this device. It is really compact and neat and works a treat for my needs as well as being good value for money.
After a few weeks I started having intermittent problems with it disconnecting devices so I contacted Anker. They asked me to undertake a few tests and when these didn’t fix the problem they sent out a brand new hub free of charge! The customer service team were amazingly polite and efficient. The new one works perfectly and I have had no problems after several weeks of heavy use. I would commend Anker to anyone- high quality goods and you can buy with complete confidence that if anything goes wrong they will fix it.
Essentially, this a great little hub from a reassuringly high quality company.
Had a laptop with only 2 x USB3 sockets, and multiple hard disks which needed to be plugged in for file organisation.
They were all mains powered so I didn’t need a powered hub, so this saved a lot of plugging and replugging.
Like all hubs, you are still only using one real socket, so don’t expect full bandwidth from all sockets simultaneously.
however for portable convenience, this is spot on.
Like all Anker products I have used, build quality is high.
I am very happy with my purchase and suits my needs to a tee. I currently use it with my MacBook that only has 2 USB slots built in, so the extra slots are a must.
The hub itself has a mouse, keyboard, headset wireless transmitter and a wire to charge my mobile device connected; I’ve had no problem with the devices loosing connection or power.
Portability is great, small and compact. This means it can be placed in a laptop sleeve without leaving a massive bulge or fix nicely in a carrier bag.
The device itself is very lightweight, I had no problem lifting the hub and could probably be lifted by a new born baby.
Great USB expander – very slimline and practical. Have plugged in a wired keyboard, mouse and an ID card reader device, and still got enough juice to run a wireless charging pad too. Brilliant!
I’ve used some blu-tac discretely to hold it down to desk – so it’s almost a docking station!
Using it for ~2 weeks now, no problems. No extra software needed (Windows 10 laptop) – was plug and play.
Good quality matte finish product, Anker have done it again with a great product.
Pros
– Plug and play, works on any usb 3.0 port on my Lenovo Ideapad laptop.
– Lightweight and portable
– Matte Finish
– Super fast delivery with Prime
Cons
– not sure if the product is durable for prolonged use, though the finish on the product is good, it does feel a bit too plastic-y.
Had worked well for three years. Had seemed well made and was well packaged. Would have hoped for longer life as it had been well treated. Suspect loose wire in cable connection to unit Causing intermittent operation. I guess I was unlucky with this unit.
In general, been very pleased with Anker kit, as have friends … about to buy one of the Anker speakers.
Overall the product has a very small footprint feels nice. But the cable is very short. Although dimensions are given in the image in product listing, it’s hard to judge how small it will be. Only one thing that took away 1 star was, as advertised, regarding the cable that it can move to avoid wear and tear, that not true. The design suggest that it should but it doesn’t. If moved too much, it can still experience wear and tear.
Anker in my experience has been a pretty reliable brand whose products haven’t failed me once and this hasn’t change that perception. It’s another great product. I usually connect this to either my laptop or monitor for extra devices and it definitely meets my expectations as a worthwhile hub.
The hub has a pretty simple design which is expected and a nice build but what makes it worth is it has a good high transfer speed which is awesome for me since i deal with a lot of footage every day for work. So far i haven’t had any issues running my portable hard drives or DVD player/ re-writer on it so i think it should be a solid investment if you’re concerned about that issue.
I bought one of these a while back and so far it has done the job well. It looks good too. Build quality is acceptable. I have not tested it for data transfer speeds or anything like that.
I liked it so much I decided to buy another one recently. However, the package arrived but the hub was not in it. According to Anker, they are not responsible for this, but I think they need to put pressure on the party who is. By the way, the package seemed not have been tampered with and there was no damage to the package too.
I ‘chatted’ with the Amazon bot about this and the money I spent on the recent purchase has been refunded – which is good. I have ordered another hub – hopefully it will arrive!
I purchase this product for my mouse, keyboard, external laptop and RGB mat. It does what is says. Tpyical Anker product was well packed and my a grat quality feel to it.
I haven’t used anything that will draw a lot on power on this product so i can’t confirm whether it will work or not but for the things i use it for it works fine.
I stream on twitch and my PC only has 3 USB ports so I needed this product I can happily say it works a charm and it’s easy to use. I have had no issues with plugging in my camera to one of the ports cause it doesn’t effect the quality just keep in mind some products have to plugged in directly to your PC like a capture card or a stream deck otherwise they don’t work so make sure to do your research before hand!
I had run out of USB ports so ordered this product – arrived really quickly, I plugged it in and worked instantly. I can now operate foot pedal and headphones etc – job done!
plugged in so i can use mouse and keyboard on laptop..(fed up laptop keyboards breaking and got used to the keyboard layout as such )..
so used heavily form day one.
NOT had any issues with it..always recognises new devices, usb’s, mobiles etc..never not worked or give me any worries.
a solid performer and well worth the money.
I bought this for use with my laptop, which only has two USB ports. It’s great for running several low power devices such as mouse, keyboard, headset, etc. This leaves my other laptop port free for charging or USB storage. As usual for Anker, this item is well designed and well made.
Compact very useful device allowing me to add extra USB stick memory to my firestick. But now moved this to my ps4 & increased its memory massively plus using the back USB slot frees up both front usb’s for controllers. I now have another USB hub in the firestick that supports direct Internet connection rater than slower WiFi.
I bought this because the PS4 Pro only has 3 USB ports, so this provides a bit more flexibility.
As with any external USB hub, you can’t connect an external HDD to PS4 via it (on PS4, it HAS to be connected directly), but it works absolutely fine with both my wireless headphones dongle, Logitch G29 wheel, and of course USB flash drives.
It’s small and compact, looks neat, and has a little blue LED light on it.
Nothing to complain about. Anker stuff is good, and this continues that trend.
I run out of ports on my computer for my music equipment. (DDJ, MIDI controller, Keyboard etc) None of them work whilst plugged into the port hub and it was only when I started troubleshooting the problems I was having. Everyone of them said there was issues with connectivity or the lack of power.
I assume this is probably fine for mouse, keyboard and other small peripherals. But larger components this is not powerful enough. Product works fine if used low power items.
UPDATE———————————-UPDATE
Updated rating as went back over product description too see the statement about not using high consumption products with this hub.
Anker contacted and offered a refund. I refused on the basis that I use the product daily. Instead, I offered my advice on how to improve listings and description so customers get the right information.
They replied swiftly and still made the refund on the basis they thought the information that I provided was of valuable use.
Anker understand that there is always till room for improvement, and strive to be the best. The way they handle their customers queries and complaints is second to none. Most companies see consumers as pointless numbers.
Anker customers all have voices which impact the way the company moves and develops.
Even though I know Anker products are not always superior in their chosen market. (Even though all Anker products are genuine value for money) I will still choose them because of their superb customer service most of all.
I bought this for my work laptop and does everything it should, a good price and with the usual Anker quality we’ve all come to expect. It 4 of my colleagues bought them straight away!
The good
– Price
– Build quality
– Works with everything (phone, USB drive, cables)
The bad
– None
Should you buy this? YES!
Purchased as needed USB 3 hub that looked tidy with a nice short cable to work with Xbox One.
Works great, small indicator light that’s does not stand out that’s idea on a device under a TV.
Really tidy with short lead, giving 4x front facing ports by using the 1x side port. I’ve used blue tack just to hold in place on the Xbox.
Sorry for the dust on the pictures, item been installed for some time.
I have had another brand of USB 3.0 4-port hub for some time but it has been very unreliable unless plugged into a USB 2.0 socket. This one has so far worked perfectly. It’s small and light enough to slip into a laptop case without really noticing it and has a small LED that tells you when it’s detected and powered on. A perfect accessory for a laptop or PC that only has one or two USB 3.0 ports.
Update – I was so pleased that I’ve bought another one for my computer bag.
Started using this a while after I purchased it and thought it was faulty as I could only use one of four ports! I emailed AnkerDirect Customer Support to ask if I could have a replacment and tried it again while waiting for a response and all four ports worked! Not sure what I did wrong the first time
Email received from AnkerDirect Customer Support in good time and dealt with by Cecilia who was extremly helpful. Obviously I did not need to return the item but am very confident with the service they provide and that you will get a very good service when buying from them/if you have any issues.
Very glad the USB is working – it is lightweight and does what it claims to do! Would be happy to purchase from Anker again in the future. Keep up the god work AnkerDirect Customer Support!
I needed extra ports on my laptop and once again turned to Anker as they offer the best customer service I’ve come across in recent years, there is never an issue if you have a problem and they answer almost immediately.
The product itself works perfectly, all ports work fine and is the product was easily recognisable by laptop, it’s small, neat and compact. Would highly recommend.
An early review as I have only had it one day, but love it to bits. Bought for travel use with a 13″ laptop running mostly on battery, and to connect a small mouse and one or two memory sticks. It is ideal for this.
Cable length including the USB plug is 8″ long and is not removable from the hub. The 4 port USB is 4″ long. The whole thing is very light. Laptop on battery I have connected, mouse and 2 USB memory sticks, transferred / uploaded files, photos with no problems. As stated the ports are USB 3.
As mentioned, the cable is not removable from the hub. I have tried folding the cable back onto the hub and secure with elastic band and a small wire cable tie for neatness and security during travel. Needs care as repeated bending may put a strain on the hub / cable connection – I don’t know, but I’m not going to bend tha cable back sharply.
I’ve very pleased with purchase, Anker quality and a very good price.
So firstly when I got the product I wasnt sure what it would do. I didnt see any reviews or anything which really told me what it was all about. But it essentially does what it says on the tin. If you running low on usb ports, but this you wont regret it. Currently i have a usb mic, external hard drive and a web cam all hooked up to it. Works like it should.
My downfall with this product is. Firstly I feel like one of the ports dont work. When plugging something into it. Nothing popped up on my computer. Changed the port and it worked completely fine. So… broken port.
Secondly I wish it had some weight to it. Or something where I could attach it to a desk with abit more ease. Without the extra weight can be hard and sometimes it will move about.
And finally I wish the cable was just slightly longer so you could position it abit better.
If you’re not really bothered by any of these. Or you can look past them like I can. You will definitely get your moneys worth out of this produc
I bought this extra USB port for my laptop which only has two at most, I’m using it almost every time I’m on the laptop to power up my external cooler fan and mouse, occasionally I will plug in usb data sticks or external hard drives. I have had this for over a year now and it is still working as intended! The size is small and very good size for travelling with or placing into your laptop accessory bag! I highly recommend this product 🙂
I’ve always got on well with Anker products and had great customer service from them in the past so was happy to buy another product for them, This is used daily with a keyboard, mouse & portable 1tb HDD plugged in to it and it works perfectly, there don’t appear to be any drops in speed vs plugging straight in to the laptop, the hub feels like it is very well made and of good quality and the shape means that it is easy to keep in a laptop bag without taking up any noticeable space.
I have had USB hubs previously and always ended up disappointed as they tend to work worse when you connect more than 2 USBs at the same time. Not with this hub; I have managed to connect an external hard drive, 2 USB drives and my phone at the same time without any potency or data usage loss. Aside from that, it’s really slim but it feels strong and sturdy. I have purchased from Anker previously and they have yet to disappoint me, they give you what they promise with every product (and no, I don’t get their products for free, I wish).
I had high hopes for this device as I previously bought other items from Anker and I’m very happy with them especially considering how good the prices are but this one is already broken and I’ve only used it literally a couple of times.
Update: the customer service has been great they have sent me a replacement hub for free and this one works perfectly well so the previous one must have been an unlucky defected one. Great support and as I said before all the other products I’ve got from Anker are still working very well too.
Maybe not the most rounded or aesthetically pleasing device but it connects well to a usb 3 port and multiple devices, freeing up ports for direct data connection to usb 3 external drives etc.
Small and portable I have used this in the UK and abroad.
Photos display it alone, next to a mouse and in context connected to a 17″ laptop.
Well worth the money.
Got this to work off my laptop as I needed USB ports for my headphones, and wireless mouse, and occasionally a USB desk lamp. It’s very lightweight, so you can just sling it in the bag, and there’s enough ports for what I need . Works very well so far with the quality you come to expect from Anker. I’m a fan having had two other Anker products which are well priced and great quality. Might even buy another for the hols!
EDIT – Sadly this hub subsequently went faulty. Seller was absolutely brilliant in replacing the product quickly and efficiently. Tested the new hub and it seems to be working well now. Thanks Anker!
Anker is a good brand, and most of my USB cables/plugs are Anker. Thought I would get this as I needed additional USB ports for my laptop. Thought it would do well with my keyboard and mouse after reading some of the reviews on here, but it can barely manage to run my keyboard by itself, and keeps randomly dropping out. Though when my webcam is plugged into the USB hub and actively being used, the keyboard works fine in the USB hub without issues.
If you are getting this, it’s good for low powered devices, a webcam, and seems to work fine with charging my smartwatch.
Now to look at gettting an alternative that is powered.
This is a useful non-powered USB hub and it extends the capabilities of my MacMini. I’ve knocked one star off as the hub’s connecting cable is a little too short for me. However it’s light, seemingly strong and has a useful power light on the front to indicate it has connected with the computer. I like that it has four ports. I’d buy it again, as Anker kit is always been reliable for me.
Recently purchased an Oculus Rift which requires 3 USB ports or 4 if you have an extra sensor. As I have an m-ATX motherboard, I’m limited with only 5 slots on the back of my computer so constantly unplugging things and plugging in the oculus whenever I wanted to play became tedious. Fortunately this hub was able to help. Works perfectly with the rift as long as you plug it into a 3.0 port. I do have to say though, the ports on the hub are a little stiff so if you plan to be constantly plugging stuff in and out of it, it may be a little hard. If like me however you plan to just have it at the back of your PC with everything plugged in all the time then it is perfect!
I’ve tried several other USB powered hubs with the Surface Pro 4 but this one actually does what it says.
I’ve got an extra WiFi module, a mouse bluetooth module and a fast USB 3 memory stick all working without any problems.
Recommended.
I ordered this product to extend the amount of usb ports I needed for my Xbox. This adapter does the treat and works just like the built in usb ports without any differences. Having one of these around is very handy as I connect a lot of devices via USB so it’s perfect for me.
The packaging was very nice alongside the look and feel of the product. It’s a quality adapter not too different from a lot of the others on the market.
The only advice I will give is if you are buying this to connect more than 3 storage devices to the Xbox this won’t be suitable. Not because this device can’t handle it but because Xbox sets a limit of 3 external hard drives. Perfectly for me, I only needed this to add my third drive to the console.
Good quality. Excellent data transfer. Recommended. Excellent after sales service.
Update:
The intermittent disconnect of my Anker 4 Port Hub has been solved.
My new ‘UGREEN’ USB 3.0 extension lead was causing the problem.
It would connect a single drive with no problems, but would cause the 4 port hub to drop out every 3 – 4 minutes?
Replaced the USB 3.0 extension lead and the 4 port hub now works as expected.
Thank you for your help.
5 stars on Amazo
Not sure why but I expected it to be a bit more substantial, maybe it’s because the other items I have from same manufacturer are more substantial. There is nothing wrong with the build quality I was just expecting better.
Got it as hp laptop only has 2 USB ports and when working from home I need 3. Plugging my token in so that I can then access work remotely it does not always work correctly and can be a bit of a faf. Token always works when plugged directly in. Headset for Skype meetings and call always works as soon as plugged in. I have not tried the wireless keyboard and mouse in it as there were reports that it could cause problems so I just run that direct from laptop
In short value for money and achieves what I need it to but can’t help but feel a little disappointed
I’ve had this about 6 months and it has provided good access to my 3.0 USB ports allowing me to be able to add additional connections hassle free. There is good spacing between the ports so nothing becomes to blocked you can’t access it.
It provides reasonable performance but has for a few months now started to fail. The main USB cable has a loose connection it seems and if I move the hub or knock it while a device is being used it disconnects. This is a shame as otherwise it’s been a good product, I expect this isn’t a problem on all but thought I would mention it.
Anker have since sent me out a replacement at no cost and this one is working great.
Like other Anker products I’ve purchased the hub seems well made, is small, quite discrete and also doesn’t get warm. I had no problems connecting it to my Windows 10 PC and it installed automatically without needing any drivers etc.
I would have preferred the hub to be connected via a Micro-USB or USB Type-C cable opposed to the short 6 inch built in lead because the hub is located on my desk and required an additional USB 3 extension lead. However, I think this is clearly designed for mobile devices such as laptops so is not a fault of the product.
There is no way to power this USB using an external power supply so if you’re going to use devices that draw a lot of current through the USB port (i.e. USB hard disk) you might be better off looking at a different product.
Really happy with my purchase.
Pros:
– Made by Anker so good quality
– Cheap and good value
– Small and discrete
– Doesn’t require external power and therefore runs cool
– Just about fits 4 HTC Vive Tracker dongles!
Cons:
– 6 inch built in connection cable is a bit short and requires an extension if not located near your USB 3 ports
Does what it says on the tin. The cable is maybe a bit short to use for Surface devices, but that’s my fault and not the product. Only thing that has been bothering me a little bit is that my gaming mouse sometimes takes some time to connect, but that might just be my computer interfacing with the hub too.
Transfer speeds between two external HDD’S averaged around 100MB/s so the hub itself did not bottleneck
Bought this as an extender for my work laptop, as it only has 2 USB ports, and i need it to drive my mouse, Skype headset, Keyboard etc. It works great. Nice robust product, that just plugs in and works. Quality on headset is still good, and isn’t impacted by multiple usage on the hub.
Great little Hub, I already have the 8 port powered one in my recording studio, never misses a beat (lol)
I bought this to use in the living room, only realised it’ll only support one external drive at 900ma when I read the instructions , it’s not a fault of the device btw, just a limitation of laptop usb ports 🙂 lt was just daft me not reading the description lol 🙂
I kept this but bought another Anker 10 way powered hub to meet my requirements.
Rememebr kids, ye need a powered hub to support more than one drive 😉
My laptop only has 3 USB ports, one on the left and two on the right. Because I use an external keyboard and gaming mouse, I need both of them to be connected to the left side otherwise the cables will interfere with each other on the right side as I’m moving the mouse.
This product is exactly what you’d expect it to be. With four extra ports it’s enough to fit multiple devices. The cable could be a little bit longer but it is quite sturdy and well made. The actual hub itself is lightweight and easy to carry around.
This is my third hub I’ve bought from Anker over the last four years, as I use them for various different laptop setups. They are excellent, extremely light and slim, they connect every time, and continue to work well – unlike other hubs I’ve used over the years.
I use mine on linux machines and they also work well.
A really nice touch is a very clear explanation guide of how not to overload them by drawing too much current, and ensure your data transfers smoothly. I cannot recommend Anker equipment highly enough. I also have two of their USB portable power pack chargers and two of their two slot car USB charger ports. They might be a little dearer than some, but they are worth the little extra, for reliability and confidence.
Go ahead, you can’t go wrong with Anker.
I have had to swap to a laptop because my tower computer died. First problem, not enough USB ports. I tried a USB hub I already had, didn’t work. Asked Anker if their’s would work. They were very helpful, and said it would for a keyboard and mouse. Tried it, worked, but then tried a hard drive I use for backing up, and marvellous that worked too. Best hub I have ever come across, would highly recommend it. But if in doubt, ask them, they really know what they are doing and are most helpful
Very neat hub that can fit in 4 USB 3.0,s. Vert handy device and works a treat for me as I have to connect mouse, keyboard and other external devices to my pc. So far no problems and it also appears to have solved a problem I had when I typed a letter and this letter would be annoyingly duplicated. I have not had this problem since buying the hub, so I am very pleased. The hub itself is very well designed and very neat. The only one possible criticism I have is that the cable is not very long and I am using a cable extension to connect the hub to my pc. Overall though – a great buy.
Great speed, but seem to deliver absolutely no current, even with only one item plugged in. Don’t try to charge anything through it as you might be there all day. I plugged in a single phone and it took an absolute age to charge.
I use this on my iMac as the ports are a pain to get to, but it doesn’t help much for that kind of this.
Also. When I got this new, I really struggled to plug anything into it. The ports are tighter than a… well… there’s just no need for them to be that tight. I nearly give myself a hernia trying to charge my phone.
Corsair Voyager Slider X2 256 GB USB 3.0 High Speed Capless Sliding Flash Drive Great extension to my Lenovo Yoga laptop. Having gone from 2 to 5 USB ports it has allowed storage expansion, https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00S89F4TW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 as well as the addition as a CD drive. To date things are very stable and reliable.
As with anything you buy that carries the Anker name you know you’re getting a quality item as is the case with this hub. When I’m working from home I don’t have a dock for my HP laptop so using my keyboard and mouse would have meant all the USB ports would be used and I need to have a hard drive and USB stick to hand as well.
Having this port makes it so much easier as I can have them all plugged in to the hub and when I set up my laptop it only means I need to plug in the hub and I’m good to go. It all worked straight out of the box, just plugged it all in and it worked as expected.
I needed to transfer 14gb worth of video files from my laptop to my hard drive and the USB 3.0 speeds were fine through the Anker hub. I’m not sure of the exact transfer speed but it didn’t take long at all to get the files across.
I like the simplistic design of it, it’s the perfect size and doesn’t look out of place on m desk. The build quality is what you would expect of an Anker product. If you’re in the market for a USB hub I can definitely recommend this one.
At first I thought it didn’t work as my 1tb usb stick was not working. But since then II have bought a 2tb seagate for backing up my iMac. USB 3.0 over the old USB 2 splitter I have been using is so much speedier.. Well worth the price and though the lead to my iMac is short it is lengthy enough to work and sit well on the desk. It is also well made and requires a firm hand to connect any product to the four ports. In fact they click into place.
Realised when it arrived that it only takes 900ma so if you connect a portable hard drive it will not power anything else. Its not the fault of the item, just the limitation of power provided by the socket. So if you want a portable hard drive a keyboard mouse memory stick then you will need a powered one
UPDATE:
Support have been fantastic and have offered me a refund so I can buy an Anker powered hub
Great usb hub, wasn’t expecting anything less from Anker. As always, good packaging and everything is working.
Very slim profile and one small blue led light. I have this in my bedroom and the light isn’t enough to annoy me with the lights out.
Only way this can be improved is the material it’s made of. Currently it’s plastic, would like to see a nice metal finish.
I like Anker. I’ve had a few of their cables and they’ve been good quality, so when I saw this Anker USB hub I went for it. It looks quite stylish in the pictures and sure enough it looked similarly stylish when it arrived. Not a curve to be seen, they have instead gone for a straight edge, angular look which fits in nicely with my black PC and TV. It will also fit in nicely with your Xbox One which it also works with. Four ports don’t take up much space but the unit still looks tiny when you unbox it. It’s light but feels nicely made with all seams nice and tight. It’s plug and play: the only thing to be aware of is to plug it into at least a USB 3.0 port to get the best out of it.
Everything I have plugged into the hub has worked first time. If I had to be picky I would have liked the cable to be a bit longer but with a few small adjustments I can access it easily from the front of the TV. If it’s likely to be a problem for you I recommend getting a USB 3.0 extension cable.
So all in all it’s a great little hub which I’d happily buy again.
Now….Elephant Twister…I think I’m on to a winner there.
Great help if you’re running multiple computers like me.
I use this to go from computer to computer using the same keyboard and mouse, data transfer is a breeze thanks to the high speeds this can handle.
Cheaper alternatives are available, Anker usually last for the 18month warranty they give, from my experience not much longer than that. But so far so good with the usb hub.
OK if your USB Port is close to where you wish to fix it or to use with a Laptop. The connecting lead is only 19cm long. Ok for my iMac but useless for a windows all in one.I was contacted by Anker customer services who asked if I would like to try one with a longer lead which I did. The new lead arrivedon Dec 28th after requested on Dec 23rd. The new lead works great I can now have my usb port exactly where I want it.The extension lead supplied was great quality also. Anker customer services kept me informed by email all through the process which I can only say that it is great customer service. I wish all companies were as good.
This is an excellent hub. It is remarkably small and works without issue. There is no set-up as it just plugs into the standard USB 3 port.
Even though I had access to 6 USB ports (1xUSB 2 and 5xUSB 3) on my laptop, via the desktop dock, I was still having to juggle the connections to get the wired and wireless connections.
I now have everything permanently connected and still have a spare port.
A well designed and built product. The blue connection indicator light is a nice touch.
The primary use of the 4-Port hub was to expand the number of available USB ports on a Macbook Pro (2013). I was able to hook up two external hard drives (1x SSD and 1x HDD) via the hub and I was able to work with iMovie libraries on both hard drives without any issues.
A Plantronics headset I have was not detected by iMovie when I connected to the hub. However, the headset connected to a Windows 10 PC via the hub straight away.
Overall a good product and competitively priced.
The built quality is decent, but nothing special. The cable is a bit short, but it seems to be designed for use with laptops so that’s to be expected. It connects devices such as mice and keyboards quickly and easily, and the device itself needs no installation or setup. For these purposes it offers a very good experience. Definitely not advised for connecting hard drives, see below for explanation.
IMPORTANT: This device is absolutely not suitable for connecting USB hard drives. When I try to connect either of my WD external drives using this hub it causes my windows explorer, and eventually all of windows, to freeze up and crash. I can’t imagine this is too healthy for the drives either. Get a powered hub or maybe a USB-C hub if you need to connect these devices, especially if you need to connect multiple. The USB 3.0 connection in the hub should have no problem dealing with the write speed of any drive, so it may work fine with externally powered hard drives, but I can’t verify this.
Well it seems that the Windows 10 Creator update messed things up. Unplugged the port and any devices in it then plugged it back in and everything now works again, apart from my Note 3.
Unplugged Note 3, deleted the samsung usb windows drivers, rebooted PC and phone, on boot up plugged phone back in switched the USB options n phone from MTP to Camera and now works fine.
Nice little gadget for the any computer it even your games console.
Few issues however. The wire is simply just too stiff. It feels like too much working the wire and it will break. Also I used the unit for around 5 hours and when I took my USB stick out of the port the USB stick was extremely hot.
All in all nice little product. I recommend you spend a bit more money on one though. I’ve a feeling this won’t last long.
As for Amazon though , they were AMAZONING like they always are!!
Cheers bros
Works really really well and have no major issues that make it in any way dysfunctional however just 2 things that brought it down to 4 stars.
First thing is it feels kinda cheap and plasticy so I’m worried it may not last a long time but hopefully it’ll hold up and secondly is something they probably can’t solve but when I plug my phone into it I get some audible interference through my headset that’s very noticeable. I can use one of my laptops ports and it resolves the issue but it’s still a bit annoying
Very great USB hub, it functions perfectly, I’ve owned it since December 2015 and it still works as well as the day I received it. First I originally used it with my Surface pro 2 and now I use it with my PC in combination with a USB 3.0 extension. Making the USB hub extremely accessible. I personally have attached some blue-tac to the bottom to prevent it from moving in the slightest. You could also do this with double sided tape too.
My only bad things about it is that maybe the cable could be slightly longer? but that’s just for me. I have my hub next to my keyboard.
The USB hub is really slim and works really well although there is one major problem for me. My WiFi doesn’t work when it’s plugged into my MacBook. It’s almost like an on off switch, it’s obviously a glitch but unfortunately means I can’t use the hub as I intended. I’m trying to contact amazon about it but not sure how to?
Edit:
I have upped the stars on this due to Ankers superb customer service team who sorted all this out for me with no issues. I didn’t even contact them they got in touch with me. Probably one of the best customer service teams I’ve dealt with.
It is an incredibly slim, lightweight and well made USB hub. All four inputs are USB 3 and I have noticed very fast file transfers, even when connecting 4 different devices on each input.
Box:
The texture of the USB hub feels metallic, and cold on touch, even though it is plastic, which in this case, it is a good option due to its lightweight design.
Cable:
The cable is a bit thicker than a standard usb cable, which makes it more sturdy and durable. It has a thicker coating of rubber, making it very soft on touch and hard to cut.
Ports:
All ports are USB 3.0 with very fast read and write speeds. I didn’t have any problem when connecting all sorts of devices, ranging from mice, keyboards, hard drives, usbs, and much more.
Features:
There is a blue LED left of all the 4 ports which shines blue when the device is being connected to a computer. The recessed design where the cable starts and ends is a very good feature which drasticly increases the lifespan of the cable, not allowing it to crack when being bent.
Suggestions:
A suggest would be to put find a way to retract the cable of the device. This can be done by making a desgn with a removable cable or add a magnetic strip which will stick the cable on the device itself.
Summary:
I am very satisfied with this product, and Anker prove to be a company with products of very high quality. I have 4 different product from the same company, and all are still working like a charm.
As with previous Anker products I’ve bought, this one is also very good. Comes excellently packaged and is hardly noticeable on the desktop. I use with an iMac with no issues and it sits neatly on the desk under the edge of the screen – if I were to be picky, I’d perhaps prefer the lead to be a tad longer but it’s not really a deal breaker. Once the unit is plugged into the computer it has a blue led light to show its up and working. Good price and reliable build quality.
Several people in these reviews have mentioned that using this hub has messed up their Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth. *This is not a direct fault of the hub and it is not harming your computer in any way*.
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and lots of other wireless things all operate on the 2.4GHz frequency (unless you’re using 5GHz Wi-Fi) and these signals will happily get along without causing each other any issues. The issue is that USB 3.0 cables/ports inherently emit electrical signals at frequencies around 2.4GHz. If a USB 3.0 hub (for example) is placed close enough to your Wi-Fi/Bluetooth antennae (definitely possible on a laptop given how short the lead for this particular hub is) it could cause all sorts of interference issues with your Wi-Fi/Bluetooth signals and the antennae will struggle to receive its intended signal.
As an example, my MacBook Pro was working absolutely as usual with my Bluetooth mouse until I added the hub into the equation – it’s been awful ever since. The mouse lags terribly and is jittery to the point that it’s unusable – this is the effect of the interference from the hub. The solution seems to be using an extension cable so that you can keep the hub as far away from the affected antennae in the computer as possible. In the case of my MacBook, this would mean keeping it away from the plastic hinge (antennas are usually behind a plastic part on a metal laptop as the signal needs a “window” to get out of). I’m going to buy a USB 3.0 extension lead and a new Micro-B lead for my external HDD as well; I shall report back on any differences they make.
Again, this is not a direct issue with the hub itself. USB 3.0 HDDs (and other accessories) are known for causing these kinds of issues, especially if the cable quality is poor. The solution lies in either better-shielded cables or a greater distance between the hub and the antenna. I do think Anker should have put some more effective shielding in the cable, so I’m docking it a star for that. Great otherwise though!
tl;dr – USB 3.0 can interfere with your Wi-Fi/Bluetooth signals so keep the hub out the way of these antennae or use a well-shielded USB 3.0 extension lead. The hub itself is great. More info: […]
[New Release] Anker Ultra Slim 4-Port USB 3.0 Data Hub
This hub is tiny compared to my previous USB 2.0 hub. Still, it sits comfortably on top of my desktop PC. The USB cable is short but fortunately I have a front USB port on my PC. However because the cable is stiff and inflexible I have had to use Blu Tack to hold the hub in place. I did buy a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Type A Male to Female Extension Cable to connect to a rear port on my PC but it was equally stiff and not easy to manoeuver. As for speed I’m sure it must be there but I haven’t noticed any major joy so not really a deal breaker at this point.
Have been using this since i bought it on my Dell XPS 13 with a Corsair K65 Keyboard, Logitech G5 Gaming Mouse and Anker Gigabit Ethernet USB adapter attached with no problems at all.
Occasionally has issues when a fourth device is plugged in but believe this is down to the USB3.0 specification limiting power draw, so if you are using less power-intensive devices or if they are powered externally then this shouldn’t be an issue.
Looks great, matte finish gives it a nice texture when being handled and the status LED shows when it is connected.
Finally, comes with Anker’s excellent customer service so should be a no-brainer compared to other USB hubs that have the same specs.
A beautifully compact USB 3 Data hub that I am using to power 5W LED Lightbulbs from an Anker power bank that has only 2 ports. The fact that the unit is small light yet of quality build I can now use 4 LED USB Bulbs for a pop-up gazebo. Anker always packs it kit in thoughtful design packages, and with this unit there are no plastic ties to secure the device in the box, just cardboard retainers – making for environmentally friendly packaging. This is the 2nd I have bought in two weeks.
As a big fan of Anker products, I had high hopes for this little device which was purchased to extend the number of USB ports on my laptop. First impressions were not great as the main body feels quite light and thin and does not rest flat without careful placement. The lead is also rather inflexible which exacerbates the problem, especially if the lead is slightly twisted. These issues are relatively minor but having used the unit now for about 4 weeks, it has just stopped working so will be going back. I will be looking for another model, albeit probably from Anker as they are usually first class.
Update:
Having contacted Anker about my problems with the data hub, they promptly got back to me to point out that only one port works as a charger and the others are for data transfer purposes. Although this was not clear to me when I purchased, I acknowledge my mistake and was also pleasantly surprised when they also posted me a free twin charger for my troubles. Great service and I have therefore increased my rating to 5 stars.
Great looking and working. Yet be aware that the power delivered by this HUB is limited so, for instance, it won’t handle 2 external HDD’s at the same time. I’m using a wired mouse and 1 HDD simultaneously without any problems.
Overall excellent product!
Check this from the product description:
[Power Usage:
For a stable connection, avoid connecting high power-consumption devices, such as external hard drives. The hub will sync but not charge tablets and other devices that require a higher power input.]
Bought this to plug into a USB 3.0 extender which I had running from my PC to the lounge so I could play games on the big TV. I used half of the the USB ports most of the time with no issue. I’ve recently switched to using a Steam Link and now mainly plug this port extender into that. I’ve plugged 4 PS4/Xbox 360 controllers into this and also ran into no issues during use.
I also use occasionally with my Macbook. Again, no issues and the speed is fantastic. Recommend with no reservations whatsoever.
Edited review: once I posted this review the company contacted me and gave me a full refund for the product. Hence the change of stars. Their contact was quick and they were really polite and helpful during the refund.
This worked as expected for a week before no longer working at all. The connection seems loose as it charges very intermittently or not at all. Complete waste of money though, you’d be better just getting a cheap one on eBay because the one I got from there actually works.
Updated my rating (from three to four stars).
Following my review (left below for posterity) – Anker reached out to me to work through the issues I was having. I’ve since received a free replacement from Anker and this has resolved the problems that I was having previously – and I can say that I’m happy with the product overall now. Still feels light and a little bit delicate hence the four star review; but I can no longer fault the functionality.
==== Original Review Below ====
Quite light build – feels a bit delicate.
Seems to have an issue with higher power devices (specifically in my case a USB Display adapter). While it’ll be recognized most of the time; but the adapter occasionally won’t get power through the hub. Sometimes this is rectified by plugging in to a different port on the HUB, sometimes not.
Never had this issue on the super cheap USB2.0 hub that I bought this one to replace
Excellent product. I use this on my front USB port of my computer to allow me to add more USB devices without going round the back of my desk. As usual very quick delivery as dispatched by amazon.
I’ve plugged in a xbox one elite controller, a USB headset and a USB 3.0 flash drive at the same time and it powers everything absolutely fine and the transfer speed from the drive seem to be unaffected. The product comes in retail packaging of a decent quality. Price point seems fair as I’ve previously bought numerous 1 multi ports from ebay etc and have always had issues with them cutting out.
Pros:
– High quality
– Works as advertised with high transfer speeds
Cons:
– None
Overall I would highly recommend this product and I can see why it’s currently the number 1 best seller in USB hubs on amazon.
The overall dimensions are about 10.5cm X 3cm X 1cm. Not sure about how much it weighs, but only a few grams (very light). The cable is about 18cm long (including the laptop USB bit).
Have used this with a USB receiver for a Logitech wireless mouse, to connect USB memory sticks, and as a charging port for a Samsung smartphone – all work fine. I also had no issues transferring files between the memory stick and laptop, or the smartphone and laptop.
I frequently run it with 2 usb 3 hard drives plus 2 usb 2 pen drives. It copes perfectly well with them all and I appear to get no loss in performance for using a hub and not direct connection. I’ve not had any issues with power and the hub (I wasn’t sure about buying an unpowered hub especially as all my drives take their power from the usb hub). Everything I’ve used it with has worked perfectly and I’m really happy with the device!
The design is great, super sleek and compact. It’s perfect from chucking in my computer bag and transporting around. The integrated cable is a good quality and has a good amount of strain relief so can’t imagine any issues with it being damaged if left hanging. I personally would prefer not to have an integrated cable so I had options for a longer or shorter cable depending on the situation (hence only giving it 4 stars). I realise this is a matter of preference and a really small nit pick!
As always it was packaged well and I couldn’t recommend Anker more as a supplier of good value tech accessories.
Since purchasing this I haven’t had one problem, it is plugged into one of my two USB 3.0 sockets on my laptop. I use it to permanently connect two USB 3.0 1TB external portable hard disks and also a wireless dongle for my wireless keyboard/touchpad which I use when the laptop is plugged into my main TV with a 8m long HDMI cable. I also have a lightning cable plugged in to charge/sync my iPhone or iPad.
It transfers movie files from the Laptop to the hard disk at approx 35-50mbps, it also charges my iPhone 6s and as per usual doesn’t charge my iPad Air 2 (I didn’t expect it to).
I have found this hub very useful and I am considering buying a second one.
I really like this hub as it is very small and doesn’t take up much room on my desk.
The best part of this hub is that it doesn’t require a separate power source.
Since purchasing this USB 3.0 hub I have bought numerous other accessories from Anker and each one has worked brilliantly and made to a very high standard
I have and would definitely recommend this and other Anker products to my friends and family
