Tiny little box but it seems to be reading accurately for what I need. Paired with the camera that’s also a hub and I get readings into the Aqara app easy enough. If I’m away it just gives me peace of mind that everything is working as it should while I’m away (nest will say the boiler is on but if it’s failed the only way I know is by room temperature) I put one in the bedroom so I get an upstairs/downstairs reading and as we live in a Victorian terrace by the water it’s good to see how the humidity is in the house.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked straight out of the box

This is a review of the Temperature/Humidity sensor.

As mentioned by other reviewers, this device can be made to work with Smartthings. The key is finding an appropriate device handler. The custom device handler provided by “bspranger” will work, but I had issues getting the temperature to be displayed on the main tile in the Smartthings app. This functionality was important to me since I’m using the device to monitor the temperature in my deep freezer. I’m sure the device handler could be tweaked to display the temperature, but I didn’t have the skills to make that change.

For my purposes, I found an existing device manager that worked perfectly to display the temperature on the main tile and the temperature, humidity and battery on the Controls page in the Smartthings app. You will need to open the IDE, select the device, select Edit and change the Type to “SmartSense Temp/Humidity Sensor. The device has worked flawlessly for the past 2 days. I will update this review if anything changes.

Had these added to Home Assistant with a Conbee stick and ZHA in seconds. Just have to pull the blue battery sheet and then hold the reset button for 5 seconds / until the blue light flashes. HA found them fast! So far they seem very accurate. Have one in the RV fridge and one in the Freezer. Hope they last a while in there, but if I need to replace every so often it is better than spoiled food. I will be purchasing more for the living areas of the RV.

I have a bunch of these around my house in most of the rooms as well as in my two refrigerators and 2 freezers. They are inexpensive and have good range being Zigbee protocol. I use them for automations in my bathrooms to turn on the exhaust fans when the humidity rises above a certain level. I also use them to see where hot spots and cold spots are in my house during the seasons and adjust accordingly. Just be aware that you will need an Aqara hub to pair these sensors to as these are considered “child” devices.

Want a cheap, WiFi enabled, text messaging enabled (w/ IFTTT account) freezer temperature alarm system, this is it! Sure, you could drop $150 for a stand-alone solution, but (as of this writing) you can get this sensor and the E1 USB hub for < $50 total. All you need is a hub (I am really only interested in one application, so the cheap E1 hub is fine) and this sensor. Register the hub on your network, add the sensor, and presto, you get a WiFi sensor that works fine (screenshot showing it working through a new GE upright freezer). The Aqara app DOES have native notifications for smartphones, but if you want to extra insurance then setup an IFTTT rule (if temp exceeds 32F, send a text message to my phone) and you can get alerts as text messages which are harder to ignore. I put my sensor in the top front corner to maximize exposure and sensitivity to outside air (if it is left open). BIG CAVEATS: I have the USB hub within 15 foot direct line-of-site to my full upright freezer, so I cannot say how well this would work with walls or big/dense stuff in between. NOR can I can say how long the battery will last since it is clearly frozen (though I DO plan to update review with this into). But as you have power for your freezer anyway, as long as you have WiFi signal at your freezer I'll bet you'll have no issues.

Ignore The Vendor - This DOES WORK GREAT In A Freezer (With The Hub Nearby)!

It works great with Home Assistant (without Aqara hub) using Conbee II. The temperature sensor triggers once (and only once, not continuously or regularly) when it passes the configured temperature threshold. I currently use it to turn on/off Sonoff power adapters that control various fans. My first time with Home Assistant (but with 40 years experience with IT) so it took a bit of learning, but nothing unreasonable.

The device came with 62% battery charge. However, Home Assistant can read the power levels, so I should be able to replace the battery (if it is replaceable).

So tiny that I just stick it on the toilet water tank and it “disappeared”. No one can see it but it measures my bathroom humidity so it can automatically turn the extractor fan on and off. As an added bonus, I can also get temperature information to complement my ecobee. It plays nicely with other HomeKit toys.

This is my third Aqara Temp Sensor and I’ll probably buy more.

I don’t have an Aqara hub; I instead use it with Home Assistant and it works perfectly. It Pairs up immediatly with my HUSBZB-1 and Home Assistant and stays connected.

There is one issue with Aqara devices however, you need to make sure you set them up in the location you intend to use them. They will not switch ZigBee routers and will only communicate with the router they connect to when you first set them up, which kind of defeats the purpose of a ZigBee Mesh.

Does it what it says on the tin. Easy to setup as long as you have a zigbee setup already (I’ve found the zigbee backbone itself varies in fun by person and their attempted setup). But I now I have 3 of these and they’ve all arrived with somewhere between 60% and 80% battery life reporting, even though they all were brand new and had the little plastic “pull tab” that supposedly keeps the connection off during transport so it doesn’t bleed power in the warehouse. Apparently not. Not a huge deal, but 1 point off for QC.

I’ve been looking for a cost effective humidity sensor for a while. These are awesome! They work well with SmartThings with the Xiomi/Aqara device handler. I’m using them to automatically turn on my bathroom exhaust fans when humidity rises above 67% from the shower, and then shut off the fan once it drops back down to below 62%. This keeps humidity down to a comfortable level and saves energy by only running the fan as long as necessary. Super cost effective at less than half the cost of any Z-wave humidity sensor I’ve seen. Nice!

I needed a humidity sensor for my cigar humidor, so that I could receive alerts if the humidity (or temperature) was outside tolerance. This was the most cost-effective temperature and humidity sensor available by a long shot.

It easily paired with my Hubitat (without the Aqara hub!) using the “Zigbee – Xiaomi/Aqara Temperature & Humidity Sensor” driver. It’s small and therefore doesn’t rob my cigars of valuable real estate. And it’s accurate. (Of course, one can calibrate the reported humidity within Hubitat, if needed.)

I have not used the pressure sensor.

    Pros:
    – Works with Hubitat
    – Accurate (as tested via direct calibration and compared with other calibrated devices)
    – Small
    – Has not lost connection with my hub

    Cons:
    – None so far

Because of the price, size, and accuracy, I will be using more of these in various places in my house as temperature/humidity sensors for the purpose of climate control, as well.

(Removed one star due to price rip-off compared to Aliexpress version)
    Update:
I switched from deconz to Zigbee2Mqtt, still using a Conbee 2 stick. I now have 4 of these and they are rock-solid.
Be careful when setting up your Zigbee network. Some plugs that may act as router may not be compatible with this sensor and create issues.
All my sensors were recognized right away and show up in Home Assistant.

I received both Conbee 2 Zigbee stick and this sensor in the same shipment.
Plugged the conbee 2 in my Intel NUC (hosting all my Home Automation software) which already holds a AEOTEC ZWave Stick.
Deployed Deconz Docker container, the stick showed up as expected.
Clicked on Add Sensor, clicked the Sensor reset button for 5 secs and it just showed up in the interface.
5 mins later, Deconz was setup in my Home Assistant and temperature/humidity now shows up on my phone.
I will probably buy more, but may do that on Chinese website, as these sensors may be $5/$10 less than here (even if they are the chinese version of the same sensor)

Bought this sensor for temperature in my downstairs room. I like it, the battery lasts OK, but my biggest issues is that you can’t convert the pressure from milibars to inches of mercury In the US we use inches of mercury and having to convert between milibars and inches of mercury all the time is a pain.

Other than that, I love the unit and if I needed more I would buy again..

  42. DrusillaReeves says:

     United States

The form factor is very small, therefore it can be easily installed anywhere.

The Aqara Home App don’t allow to visualize the battery level. Everyone must have been using the Xiaomi app. (Mi Home)
A way to check battery level is from the Apple Home app. (For iPhone users)

With the battery straight out of the box, first measurement was 75%.
Now, 4-5 days after, battery level is at 62-64%.

It’s a short period of time Toni or if the device is not capable of measuring the battery properly or not. But seems like it’s important to use good batteries afterwards, like energizer for example.

About the accuracy, it seems to be aligned with a pretty accurate device.

I did get two sensors right away. They were having a small difference one to another. And these were, for testing, side by side.

    Conclusion :

These are good for indication. For truly accurate measurement, I don’t think these can fulfill the need. It’s cheap, seems to not do well with battery life. Temperature can be trusted, humidity is I think a rough estimate, and battery level seems totally off.

This small sensor is great for monitoring the temperature of any random location. I have it mounted outside on our front porch which is protected from rain and most direct sunlight. I use it with HomeKit. I’ve set up an automation to run every night to tell me when the temperature drops below a set point. We use this to know when it is cool enough to open the windows during the summer evenings. Sure, I could go outside and feel it myself but isn’t that the point of all these IoT devices? To enable our laziness? What I really want are automated window openers so I don’t even have to get up haha.

I can’t comment on the battery life as we haven’t had this for all that long. But the connection through the Aqara hub is solid and never has any issues appearing in our Home.

Smart devices are often frustrating to set up and configure. This was easy as pie. The Aqara hub found it immediately and it started reporting temp, humidity and air pressure. Also it is reporting consistently in Apple Home. I bought an Aqara hub, so I don’t know if it will work without one (Aqara says no), but the Aqara app logs the read outs and also will display them on a chart.

Not only would I buy one again, but I did. One is in my attic to trigger an attic fan based on temperature. I bought a second for my bathroom to try to trigger a fan based on humidity. I will probably buy a third for outdoor temperature in a protected area (these are not intended for outdoor use).

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersI use two of these sensors in my Home Assistant (HASS) ecosystem without the sensors’ proprietary hub. They utilize the Zigbee protocol and pair with HASS easily. Because they’re end devices, I recommend placing them near a relay device (mains powered device) or closer to whatever hub you use. The batteries last at least 2 months (I’ve not changed the batteries since owning them and they’re at around 50% each), depending on how often they send data. I use one in my attic and bathroom to get temperature, pressure, and humidity data. The frequency of the reporting is more than sufficient and I have no connection issues with the sensors, or reconneciton issues if the HASS server loses power.

The attached image has all three readings over a 24 hour period. The spike in the data is when I took a 1- minute shower (in the bathroom), which shows how responsive the humidity and temperature sensors are. The pressure data is very “blocky” because it’s measuring small atmospheric changes of approximately 0.03 inches of mercury (approx. 1 hPa on the chart), which is way more detail than I would ever need.

I highly recommend this sensor if you need simple temperature, humidity, and pressure data.

Works with Home Assistant without an Aqara Hub

I like the small size and, while I prefer the z-wave protocol, this zigbee device paired immediately with a GoControl HUSBZB-1 Z-wave & Zigbee USB stick that is connected to Home Assistant running core 2021.7.4 and supervisor 2021.06.8. The device was discovered as a LUMI lumi.weather with four entities: temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, battery. I’ll update this review after the device has been more fully tested in my home automation system.

Update 20120719: the device was located near two other similar type sensors from other brands and the readings tracked within one degree and percentage point. The battery power sensor initially reported 89% for several hours then updated to 100%. I’ve moved the device outside to a covered porch and will update my review with the results after a week or so. I really like the small size.

It does what I needed it to do. I run a massage business and my therapist said the temperature in one of the rooms was colder than the rest of the rooms. With the temperature sensor I was able to verify that even though the thermostat was set for 74F for the store, the temperature in the room was dropping down below 70F in the room. With a little tweaking of the A/C vent, I should be able to correct this. Definitely worth the purchase price and it is very easy to setup once the hub is installed. I also set alerts that go to my smartphone if the temperature moves out of a specified comfort range. I’m going to put one in all of the rooms.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI have what I would call a non-standard setup. I don’t want anything to do with any type of proprietary hub for a couple reasons. One is I don’t want to get in bed with any company for an extended amount of time if I can help it. I want to be able to buy what I want and when I want without worrying my existing hub will support another product from another manufacture. Another is I am inherently nervous about products on my home network that I don’t fully control. Call me old fashion but that’s how I am (note: I am not an extremists, just would rather be pulling all the strings with the stuff I buy).

With all that in mind, when I started my home automation journey I did a lot of search and first deployed OpenHab and then migrated to Home assistant. These compact little sensors work well with both platforms mainly because of the integration of zigbee2mqtt within both the OpenHab and HA environments. My use case at this time is for bathroom humidity. My son likes to take long hot showers (as do I!) and no matter what I say, he will not turn on the fan. Frustrated by his lack of compliance and because I was just starting my automation journey, I decided to win the battle with technology! Now with this little guy installed in the bathroom and when the humidity reaches a certain level, the fan automatically turns on! No fuss, no muss, and no more telling my son to turn on the fan! The best part about it is there is nothing he can do about it. Ha! Daddy wins the day!

All in all this product has served me well and after 6 months of use the battery percentage is still registering in the high 90’s. Worth the buy if you either own their proprietary hub or are willing to put in a little bit of work to make it work for your solution.

    Works well

If you want to move it to a different location, or when it comes time to replace the battery . . . you need to get some double sided tape and cut out rings to match. They should include 3-4 of them in the box. But I still give it 5 stars, great product and a good price point.

Once I had this unit set up (more on that below) I was impressed with how quickly it responded to changes in humidity. Sitting next to me, the humidity was reported as 49.9%. I put it near my mouth, breathed some hot, wet breath on it and within one second it jumped to 66% and in another it was at 83%. It took maybe 10 seconds to get back to ~50%. I figure the droplets required some extra time to evaporate. The point is, this device is good enough for tracking bathroom humidity and turning a fan on and off.

Right now I’m only interested in the humidity sensor, but it also reports temp, barometric pressure, and its power/battery level. Four sensors in a ridiculously small footprint of about 1.25″/30mm square

As for setup, I was able to get this working with Home Assistant and a ConBee II dongle in under a minute. Assuming your ConBee II is already working properly:
    1. Go into the Supervisor/Add Ons and add the Mosquito Broker. Start it.
    2. Go to Integrations and you’ll see the new MQTT badge. Click “Configure”. That’s it.
    3. Go to the integration for your Zigbee dongle and add a new device.

Can’t comment on battery longevity at this point, but no concerns a month in to use in an outdoor setting. It is placed in a location that is somewhat shielded from the elements.

Can’t think of any way this sensor could be better. I wish data history was viewable in the home app, but that is a HomeKit issue for Apple to solve.

Sensor is very small and easy to place wherever you want to. It uses a standard replaceable battery that should last a long time.

Setup was fast and simple. Data history is available in the Aqara app, but not yet a part of HomeKit and the native home app on iOS.

I bought this to control a smart plug that I use with the humidifiers in my bedroom.

My wife likes it to be about 55% humidity while we are sleeping, so I have this set up to automatically turn on and off, based on the relative humidity of the bedroom.

This has allowed me to maintain a good level for her, even though should would like it higher, without the need for me to guess and turn them on and off in the middle of the night.

When it hits the upper limit, 55%, they shut off. When it drops to 45%, they turn back on. Great item.

Great Temp/RH/Pressure sensor. It does work with SmartThings with the following caveats.
    * Don’t even think about using the with ST unless you are familiar with the ST IDE.
    * You must knowledgeable with publishing a custom device handler in the ST IDE.
Steps to integrate Aqara Sensor with ST
    1. Google search handler using “orangebucket temperature.groovy github”
    2. Download new handler.
    3. Self publish new handler using ST IDE.
    4. Unplug or power down all Zigbee devices. This is to prevent the new sensor from being routed through Zigbee devices as repeaters. Aqara sensors do not interoperate with generic Zigbee repeaters.
    5. Set the new device near the ST hub.
    6. Use the ST AP to add a new device. Select Scan nearby option.
    7. Press reset button on top of device.
    8. ST will pick up the new Aqara sensor.

I’m totally blind. Took me some research to find the device handler for my SmartThings hub. I installed it and took me 2 tries to get the sensor to be find by the hub. The reason for that is being I’m totally blind, couldn’t tell if the LED was flashing or not.

After a little time, the sensor showed Temp, humidity and battery. The humidity at least on the sensor I have showed to be about 4% lower then my weather station. Temp looked to be within 1F of my weather station. The refresh time as far as looking at the log in IDE for the SmartThings hub; Doesn’t look like the sensor sends data that often.

Don’t find any Pressure reading for the sensor at least in the SmartThings stuff.

The only thing I don’t like is how the battery is. If you put htis sensor on teh wall with the 3M tape! Looks like it will be a pain to change the battery in it. Also looks like a slight dump as far as turning it if on the wall will cause the battery to come out being the sensor will come off the wall.

The sensor has been running now for a few days and still is working.

This is a OK sensor but their are other sensors on the market for about the same price point and you don’t have to install extra device handlers.

People use these Zigbee devices with so many combinations of other gear that I wanted to let people know that I am successfully using these with Home Assistant, Deconz, and Conbee II. They were easy to add and have been running three bath and laundry fans in my house based on humidity levels. Great add to the smart home. They have only been running a week as I write this. If they fail I will update.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis works well with the setup I have. My sons room is on the far corner of our house and we have minisplit heating and forced hot water heat (oil). During the winter we’ll run the minisplits for heat at night so his room will get quite cold. This setup helps keep it bearable on cold winter nights.

Amaze Heater: Wall mounted radiant panel heater (400 watts)
    TP-link Kasa Wi-fi Power Outlet (KP200)
    Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor
    Smartthings Gen 2 hub.

All seem to work well for the most part with an automation set to turn half the output (the one connected to the heater) on when the Aqara sensor drops below 60F and off again when it hits 68F. This sensor will not work unless you install the custom device handler in smartthings. Just google it. Its been in operation now for over a month and only consumed about 11% of an energizer lithium 2032 battery. Happy with this setup so far.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersAlthough unofficially supported by SmartThings, you’re able to use it with a custom device handler — search “bspranger aqara” — as of this review 1/18/2021, I’m currently using v1.3.1. Although the sensor did not work initially great, it took a day to start consistently reading temperature and humidity and battery. The battery did not get picked up the first day, but did the second day upon installing. Purchasing another one for upstairs. Recommended if you’re able to tinkle with custom device handlers for SmartThings.

*1/20/2021* update: 5 stars, takes a few hours to register with SmartThings consistently, but once sensor does it works flawlessly. I updated device handler to display humidity first rather than temperature on main tile which was my main purpose of purchasing this sensor.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat value and the Aqara sensor stays connected to my Smartthings v3. If you have a Philips Hue hub I would recommend unplugging before setting up your Aqara sensor. The Aqara sensor prefers to be paired directly to the Smartthings v3 hub first.

Update: I’m using a custom IDE on a Smartthings V3 hub and I am experiencing zero disconnections. If you have a Philips Hue hub: power it down first, before syncing your Aqara sensor. The Aqara battery is still reading 97%-100% which is incredible. I’m using these sensors to automate window ac units combined with Securifi Peanut Smart Plugs. The GE window ac unit’s thermostats are highly inaccurate and reading the sun/outside temps vs inside temperatures. If you are concerned about reducing the life on your window ac units/safety: Set a long delay for it to turn off, so you are not short cycling the units and stressing your rated smart plugs. Don’t use wifi smart plugs. Always use Zwave+/Zigbee smart plugs, so you don’t over-saturate your network with wifi devices. The Zwave+/Zigbee protocol is far more reliable vs wifi. I’m working on implementing and replacing Smartthings with a RPI4 with HA or Hoobs for local control. You can also integrate Smartthings with HA/Hoobs if you prefer to keep Smartthings.

Update: Ordered a second sensor and it came with a dead battery. I happened to have a new Energizer CR2032. Everything works fine. The bad battery that came with the sensor would only power the Aqara for 10 minutes.

Was looking for HomeKit sensors to monitor temp/humidity in a small package. Checked these guys out (along with the hub). They are awesome! Inexpensive and give me the readings I need in my sunroom, greenhouse and other areas. Time will tell how long the batteries will last.

    Would recommend! Setup was simple.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFor some reason, I’m obsessed with knowing the temperature (and the humidity!) in every room of my house. This does that and it’s mega cheap and so cute and tiny! If you use Home Assistant, YOU DO NOT NEED THE AQARA HUB! Why send your data through the cloud when you don’t need to? Instead, you can use the fabulous Nortek dongle and pair these bad boys directly. Just pair as you would any other Zigbee device. I experienced no issues with pairing. No cloud needed! Then you will have knowledge of temperatures galore!

If these things truly have a 2-year battery life (as advertised), they are worth every single penny!

Purchased these to use in our freezers at home. We had issues where doors were getting left open, and needed something to warn when the temperature is creeping up. These have been a great addition to our smart home setup.

I use these with SmartThings. Did need to use a custom device handler, but it was a quick 2 min add using the iDE.

Overall, great sensors and worth the add to any smart home.

I have this hooked up with deCONZ + ConBee2 dongle on HomeAssistant. It works great, mostly. I only have occasional issues with a sensor dropping. It would seem mostly related to connectivity failing for one reason or another. Pushing the button tends to get it reconnected. It’s rare, once in a couple or so. Adding another Zigbee device between seem to help, but not 100% solid.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersI bought this based on the reviews of others and I don’t get why they don’t have issues. I was able to get mine connected and reporting values BUT it won’t stay connected for any significant amount of time. Sometime it quits after a couple of hours and sometimes after a couple of minutes all while sitting within a foot of the hub. This is with a v2 hub and the new SmartThings app if it matters.

This is in no way a bad reflection of the device or Aqara as they do not claim to work with SmartThings. The device itself is super small, looks great, and, when it was reporting, seemed to be accurate enough. Aqara would make a killing on these if they supported SmartThings. I can’t find anything else as small and as cheap with z-wave or zigbee that does both temp AND humidity.

It works with Smartthings hub but you need to modify it a bit to make it work. Might be a bit difficult if you are not technologically inclined. But there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube that shows step by step how to use them with Samsung Smarthings. The battery has held up for almost 2 months. I do have to reset one of them from time to time which can be a hassle. So knocking a star.

Golden Review Award: 114 From Our UsersOkay, let me get this out of the way first. I LOLed that Amazon wanted me to rate this product separately on its “stretch”. What does that even mean??

This is a review of the Temperature/Humidity sensor.

    Pros:
    – Small form factor blends in reasonably well
    – Performs its indended function
    – Price is reasonable
    – Can be paired with a SmartThings hub if you’re willing to deal with a bit of hoop-jumping/hassle to set it up using custom a custom handler created by a community member and freely available on Github.
    – Range seems good. I have my SmartThings hub in the basement and the farthest of my 4 humidity/temp sensors is located in my 2nd floor hallway; values are posted regularly so that my historical graph rarely if ever has any breaks in it.

    Cons
    – Difficult to pair with SmartThings. It is possible, as mentioned in the Pros, but this device breaks from the Zigbee standard in an attempt to force users to buy the Aqara hub
    – After pairing with the SmartThings hub, some values may take a while to start updating, such as the battery. If you leave it for awhile, they will eventually start posting, though (they did for me, at least!)
    – I’m not sure these are entirely accurate, but they seem to be relatively accurate. I haven’t compared them to a calibrated standard, though, so I can’t say for sure.

    Final notes:
I think it’s dumb for Aqara to violate the zigbee standard just to force users into buying the Aqara hub. If you want people to use your hub, give them a good reason to do so (i.e. make the hub itself better somehow). Don’t hack (break) the published communication standard just to lock the sensors to your hub. The hub and sensors should each stand on their own as providing value to the user to warrant their respective purchase.

Golden Review Award: 38 From Our UsersMake sure you read the reviews and feedback about what’s needed to use this Temperature, Humidity, and Pressure sensor. I purchased it to use with Hubitat and knew that the Xiaomi/Aqara products were not fully Zigbee compliant so for this sensor what happens on Hubitat is that after about 3-days you need to reset the sensor so that the Hub starts logging data again, otherwise it just stops. Basically you just need to push the very small reset button on top of the sensor. Now, if you’re using it with the Aqara Hub, I’m sure it’s fully compatible. Anyhow, the sensor looks nice, it’s compact, and captures the data I was looking for at a very good price.
