As an “at-home male”, I have lost count of the number of times that my wife has questioned my masculinity. Much as she has tried to encourage me to go out and get a job doing hard manual labour, I keep pointing out that I am happier to simply sit in at home all day- doing the cooking and laundry. I was extremely pleased to receive this test for at-home males, in order to prove my masculinity with regard to hormonal levels.

What I hadn’t initially realised was that, in order to carry out the test, I would have to prick my own finger and release a sample of blood. Unfortunately, I wasn’t masculine enough to do so- which led me to presume that I was bound to fail the testosterone test, anyway. I was so depressed by my inability to cut myself that I felt a little suicidal. Were it not the fact that I’m evidently not brave enough to make an incision, I would most likely have slit my wrists there and then. It’s just as well that I didn’t. The irony of dying due to a falsely assessed inability to cut myself would likely have been almost as painful as the actual physical wounds. Anyway, in the end Doreen jabbed my finger for me, so no further action was required.

The test results came back quickly and I am pleased to say that I was vindicated. I haven’t yet managed to persuade Doreen that I am going need to an additional concubine, in order to match up to my powerful masculinity. However, I now have incontrovertible evidence that I count for at least two males worth of virility.

Easy to register online, relatively easy to carry out the rather unpleasant job of sample collection, abs results received back pretty quickly. Can’t complain; four stars.

The test kit is very straightforward in telling you what to do. It stresses the importance of registering the kit before doing anything else, and while you are registering, it advises when exactly the test should be taken to get useful results (if you try and enter a time you will take the test as being later than they recommend – in this case before 10am) you immediately get a warning that the results may not be accurate if you do so.

The kit then includes all you need to do a finger prick blood test. No complaints there. However anyone who has tried to do this will know how difficult it can be to actually achieve. I had to use 3 lancets on 3 different fingers to fill the tube up to the 600 line (tubes that are not completely full to the line will most likely be rejected by the lab). I understand that this is important for the test to be done, but the reality is that despite following recommendations (being very hydrated, warm hands, wiggle your arm and hand for blood flow etc) your blood just may not want to come out your finger tip more than a couple of drops – and way more than a couple of drops is needed to fill the tube.

I posted the test the same day (yesterday) but have yet to receive confirmation that they’ve received it so cannot comment on the accuracy of any results.

TL/DR – the test can be useful if you have concerns about your hormone levels, and the company can provide further information to talk through with you if needed. However it may be difficult to obtain the sample to test in the first place, and at the current price point, that does put me off.

This is a review for Male Hormone Test by LetsGetChecked.

The test kit comes in a cardboar box that contains the instructions on how to take the test, blood collection tubes, lancets, swabs, plasters and return envelope.
The kits needs to be registered/activated before use. The samples need to be taken in the beginning of the week, ideally in the morning and then posted on the same day.
My partner hasn’t taken the test yet. My concern is how he is going to be able to produce enough blood needed for the test with the provided lancets. We will update the review once he has sent his sample off to the lab.

    Simple and discreet.
Painless and free to send back to the lab.
Super quick results. We received results within 3 days.
Reports are very easy to understand as well as detailed and thorough.
    100% recommended.

You might be wondering what the point of these home tests are when we have the NHS? But the NHS, though wonderful, have to save money where they can and won’t test you for anything on demand. These tests are a good way to give your GP a push to get you the help you need.

The test comes with everything you need, but it isn’t super easy to use. Most of the tests (including this one) are blood tests and require you to use a lancet on your finger and then drip the blood out into a vial. The vial is small, but it feels like quite a lot of blood when it’s coming out one small drop at a time from your fingertip! My fingers clot quite quickly so I usually have to lancet several times to get enough blood for 1 test (several lancets are provided per test kit). If the vial is under-filled, they won’t accept it.

Each of these tests comes with a prepaid return label printed on a mail bag to send it back to them for free. Some of these return labels are for the Royal Mail and some are for UPS – you don’t get to choose which, so bear this in mind before ordering, though you can arrange a courier collection if you’re provided with a UPS label. I live in Yorkshire and some of the tests were sent to a lab in London, others to a lab in Ireland. It took 2 days for them to receive my kit and for me to get my results.
You must post the kit to them from Monday-Thursday only as if the package is delayed over the weekend, the sample could spoil so it is best to do it early in the morning so it can be collected in the mail the same day (if being sent by royal mail).

The weather has been particularly warm recently and since some of my tests were sent by royal mail I was afraid they may spoil in the post box or in transit. I contacted customer services to ask whether I’d be expected to buy a replacement kit if this were to happen and they assured me if the sample were spoiled, they would provide me with a free replacement test kit.

You can register your test kit on either the Let’s Get Checked browser website or their mobile app. They ask for some medical history related to the test you’ve ordered and a list of current medication. You don’t have to make an account with them to use their services, but you may wish to to making tracking your results easier, particularly if you intend to take more than one test.

Overall, it seems pretty good and provided me with some useful insights and I would recommend it if you have health concerns that your GP isn’t taking seriously, but bear in mind that milking the sample from a lancet wound on your finger is a bit of a pain, literally.

I’ve included some screen caps of the app so you can see what the service looks like

    I hope this was helpful.

Really helpful test, great customer service, a bit of a pain to do

A decent presented out which is easy and user friendly. I particularly suffer with low drive & extreme fatigue with slight mood changes & seeing a gp is crazy nowadays. So doing this at home is convenient too!
Process was surprising and discreet. Nobody in the household knew, even for the other range of tests that they offer that i wanted peace of mind for.
Website was easy and nicely layed out results. Slightly on the pricey side but I highly recommend it for accuracy and quick results.

This kit definitely save hassle going to doctor to get it tested or going to private clinic and have male hormone testosterone checked, everything you do at home and then simply drop it off in local post office however there are key steps you must follow while using this test kit.

First of all test require activating prior to collecting sample. It need you to create account on their website and scan card from inside of the box with special number assigned to your test. They saying it is important to collect sample before 9 am.

Whole kit includes everything you need to collect sample, patch yourself after and send sample. They provides finger prickers to collect blood sample, tube for sample, clean fabric and plasters for fingers as well biohazard bags for sample with prepaid envelope. Everything seems to be very easy and straightforward, and it is for most of the part. Biggest issue is that you have to collect specific amount of blood by following instruction however it is super difficult. I used 5 different fingers to collect enough blood and took me a while. I have to say it was messy and I managed to collect up to 400 mark point.

Despite of that they retrieved what they needed and tested hormone level with no problem. All results arrived in 3 days and been accessible on website to view. Depends on you hoe you deal with collecting blood samples by yourself or if you prefer go to doctor. Mostly it was positive experience.

Difficult to collect enough blood however hassle free test and good experience

I’m at an age when I’m having all sorts of different tests and check ups from my doctor, so I thought it would be interesting to dig a little deeper than what’s offered on the NHS. This kit requires you to take a blood sample at home, which you send to a laboratory for analysis.

First off, you’ll need to create an account with Let’s Get Checked and register the kit. There was a slight hurdle here, in that you need to nominate a day and a time before 9am, in which to take the sample and I found it tricky to find a suitable time in my busy mornings, finally choosing to set an early alarm one morning.

Inside the box, you’ll find four lancets, a blood collection vial, a biohazard bag and a few other sundries to allow you to take the sample. If you’ve ever taken a diabetes blood sugar test, you’ll recognise how to extract your sample. The lancets come as little plastic mechanisms that you push against the tip of a finger, causing the lancet to quickly prick the skin. It’s not totally painless, but it really is very slight. This creates droplets of blood that need to be deposited into the vial, so that it fills it to a set volume. I needed to use three of the lancets, as the blood flow from my fingers stopped before I had enough and the sample won’t be tested if there’s not enough.

Once I’d got into the swing of things, then it became plain sailing, however I did find it slightly daunting as there is only a small amount of leeway if you get things wrong. Strangely, there were only two plasters supplied, despite there being four lancets – if you expect customers to need four lancets, then you’d imagine it would make sense to include sufficient plasters.

Once I’d taken sufficient blood and sealed and marked everything correctly, I put it all in the postage bag and put it in the pillar box. Within three days I had my results via the app and discovered that my testosterone levels are.normal! I wasn’t expecting any particular results, as I’m not really showing any outward signs of an excess nor a deficiency of it – except perhaps for male pattern baldness!

It’s not entirely a pleasant experience – taking your own blood sample – but it was no great tribulation either; I’ve got two other tests to do and I’ve got no qualms about doing them. If you are curious about your health and can afford it, then this might be for you. I would still use the NHS if I was worried about a health issue before using one of these kits, but they are useful for building a fuller picture of your general health.

Watch a few Youtube videos before you try to extract the blood as it does take a bit of technique and the phial needs to be full up. Results came back within five days and it was very helpful for my partner to learn that he has lower than average testosterone levels before visiting his Dr.

I like the LetsGetChecked service because of the ability to speak to a LetsGetChecked nurse in order to ask basic questions about the test results.

Other than this personal question/answer service though, the price of the Male Hormone Plus test is fairly high compared to similar but not identical tests offered by competitors. None of the competitors I’m aware of however offer a nurse based follow-up question service.

I also really like the fact that this test provided an oestradiol measurement. I haven’t found a male hormone test from a competitor that offers this measurement (for men) and so it was good and interesting to see.

I think though that the instructions with the test though could have been much better.

Importantly, there was no mention in the test kit box of the need to take the male hormone blood test before 9am in the morning.

The requirement to take the test before 9am was presented through an online caution message when activating the test and after I had already filled the tube with blood. Luckily I had done this before 9am in the morning but I really do not like the fact that there was no basic test specific instruction leaflet in the box informing me of this very important fact.

The written instructions with the test did direct me to the LetsGetChecked website where the 9am requirement is described but it was too easy to miss the requirement to read the website instructions and instead just rely on the written instructions that come with the test.

The website instructions are also not easy to access because there is a long list of LetsGetChecked tests and it is necessary to select the relevant test from this list in order to access the relevant instructions.

It surely wouldn’t take much to place a test specific information card in the box especially for such an important requirement as the need to take the test prior to 9am.

I did not find the blood taking instructions to be as helpful as they could be . The instructions look fairly detailed. There are clear pictures and the steps are laid out clearly. The usual guidance that comes with some competitor tests, to soak your hand in warm water for a few minutes or to perform the test immediately after a shower, is not present.

I followed the instructions to the letter – just washing my hands in warm soapy water – out of curiosity and I did really struggle to draw enough blood to the fill the tube. When doing finger prick tests, I usually soak my hand for a few minutes in warm water and I’m able to draw more than enough blood with just one lancet. On this occasion I needed to use two lancets and thus two pin pricks on two different fingers.

The instructions also fail to mention the general guidance to stand when trying to draw blood.

Online activation of the test was fairly easy but a bit fiddly. I can’t see a way around the need for activation because the test is not pre-registered via a direct sale by LetsGetChecked. It was annoying though to see the 9am warning flagged up during the activation process and after I had already taken blood – luckily before 9am.

I posted the test on Wednesday, it was received and processed by the lab on Thursday, and I received the results on Friday just after a missed call from the LetsGetChecked nursing service.

The text message informing me that the test had been received suggested that I may have to wait three to five working days for sample processing so I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I obtained the results.

I like the fact that the results are very clearly presented along with a PDF report, containing the measurements and the normal ranges, that can be given to my GP if necessary.

I do like the LetsGetChecked service and mainly because of the the facility to speak to a nurse to ask for basic additional information.

I also really liked the fact that the test measured not just testosterone but also binding globulin and oestradiol as well as providing a calculated free androgen index.

It’s a premium test but I think it’s also a fairly premium price. I was disappointed by the quality of the instructions and especially the lack of test specific instructions including the pre 9am requirement.

Cheaper than paying for private bloods of the same nature, I know because I’ve had to in the past. The results are accurate and trustworthy as far as I can tell and I much prefer being able to do it at home without trying to hunt down GP appointments or pay through the nose for private clinics. Getting the blood wasn’t too bad for me personally but I always have an easy time of it when drawing from the vein also so may be dependent on you. Results came in within a few days and using the app is very easy. I’d recommend.

This male hormone test arrives in an Amazon box and it’s inside a postage sleeve which states exactly what is inside on a small sticker which is stuck to the bag. Inside is a printed cardboard box which is sealed and contains everything you need to take the test. You will find a blood collection tube, 2x adhesive plasters, 4x lancets, 2x alcohol swabs, a pack of gauze, a prepaid return envelope, biohazard bag, and an instructions leaflet.

This hormone test is made for you to do from the comfort of your own home. Everything is included in the box for you to take the test and return your sample. The instructions are simple to read and easy to follow. I was a little concerned about using the lancets as I’m not a fan of needles or anything similar, but it was done quickly and didn’t hurt, and I wondered why I was so concerned about it after it was done. Just a quick click and its over and definitely wasn’t painful so don’t be concerned about it if you’re worried about it like I was. Collecting the blood was another matter though as even though the blood collection tube doesn’t look very big, it’s a lot of blood to fill it with when you’ve got the tiniest hole in your finger from a fine needle. It doesn’t drip out of your finger, you have to squeeze it and scrape your finger over the tube to get some in and just keep repeating the process. I had to use 2x lancets to get some more blood out of a different finger. The instructions ask you to do the test before 9am and post off your sample the same day.

You have to create an account through their website as this will be where you get your results through to. They do ask a lot of questions about your medical history. If you have ever done a health check with a GP then those are the sort of questions it asks you like smoking, drinking, family related illnesses, medication you are taking. It is a long list and will take about 10 minutes to complete but once done, your account is setup, and you will receive your results through this account.

I received my results within 3 working days, and it was all accessible through the account I created. There were a lot of chemical words that I had to look up, but the results came back as normal with no concern. They do say that they may ring you up to talk about the results so I would assume that happens if you have some issue with the test and your individual results. I received no phone call so assume that’s because there was no issue.

A really easy test to do at home which is perfect if you don’t have time to see the GP or clinic and you can do this in your own time. Quite a detailed report about the results but you will have to search online to find out what some names mean. A very easy process made easier with simple to follow instruction and prepaid return envelope

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis home test kit is from a company that has been around for eight years, coming to be in 2014 in the UK.

LetsGetChecked offer laboratory testing services from samples taken by the user at home, these tests can screen for a variety of conditions, such as fertility, heart health, digestive health, (STIs), even certain cancers, the coronavirus – and in this case Testosterone.

Further if you receive a positive test result for a infirmity, you can speak with a nurse during a free consultation.
Everything comes in unmarked, confidential packaging.
The price of the testing is reasonable and takes place at home.
The company have an online chat, you can ask questions before purchasing a test.
You can get your results in 2 to 5 days – and that range seems correct given user reports here on Amazon.

T-testing is of interest if as a man – of any age, who is experiencing symptoms of low testosterone. As well as sexual dysfunction low T is linked to muscle loss, weight gain, fatique and low mood; lethargy and depression, and also memory issues.

Negatives are the need to draw blood, and sufficient to fill the vial, that maybe a challenge. You also must fast before the test, so before breakfast – and before 9am, and then posted on the same day. Worth noting in terms of your schedule and location.
One is also required to sign up on the company website, and download the app. Then the usual confirmation email for login. Fill in your pack’s sample code and also enter some personal details.
Necessary for the process, but worth noting.

The biggest challenge as understand this- is what is normal? For indeed the normal T range for men is quite broad – so a normal result maybe fine for one individual – but mask in another a precipitous fall in Testosterone from an orignal high-end score within the normal healthy range.
So while a useful tool it is not the only tool in the diagnostic tool box.

These are my personal impressions, I’m not a medical professional – but I have researced Testosterone as T levels naturall fall in men as we age, commonly cited as 10% every decade after 30.
Which brings me to the closing caveat – always research these things, by all means ask LetsGetChecked questions via their well presented webpage, but also read around the topic, and consult a doctor if you are experiencing symptoms.

    Easy to use, fast results.
A great option if have any doubts or want to check yourself just in case.
Gp will give you a free test or will test you only if they will see that it is necessary or might be needed because of some symptoms, but they won’t do any tests just because you want them, so this is a great alternative. As for the price, – you get free postage included, all the supplies cost money, lab tests cost money, and staff work costs money, so it’s up to everyone individually to decide if it’s worth it.

So we ordered this to see what the results would be, whilst waiting for doctors to get back to us. And I have to say that I’m impressed. It’s easy to do. it takes around half an hour, and I definitely recommend showering beforehand and drinking water. It was very easy to just send off in the post, currently awaiting confirmation of them getting the sample but I can’t wait to see if it confirms results.

I never knew you could get this service online. It’s very quick and easy and there’s no waiting around for your own doctor to try and book you a blood test, which can in my ex one weeks after they’ve told you to book one.

Pricey a little but, , but private can be better for those things you want to know but don’t want to wait around for your doctors to get an appointment with.

    Pros:
    The app makes it easier.
    Great instructions.
Can be done in your own privacy at home.

    Cons:
Price, some can’t afford this service, however it is a luxury.

I think this is a great service

This At-Home Male Hormone Test by LetsGetChecked arrived discreetly boxed with everything needed to perform it. The box was sealed on arrival.
In order to complete the test, the app needs to be downloaded on the mobile phone and personal account created.
It was easy and fast to do so.

Test arrived with step by step guide which is very helpful and easy to follow.
There are also some video instructions to view on the company website which are very helpful.

This test has to be registered in the app/activated before sending it, off in order to receive results.

It came with pre paid envelope to post it via Royal Mail.

I’ve posted it and am currently waiting for the results.
All tests and results are visible in the app. There are also more services offered there, to include purchasing additional tests, services etc. The app is easy to use and straightforward to navigate through.

Not the cheapest, but I won’t take the star down for it as I knew it at the time of ordering.

Arrived fast and is easy to do, so I would happily recommend it.

I got the testosterone test as I have been feeling fairly tired for a while and wasn’t sure if it was just age or low levels.

The package arrived in a very discreet plain post bag with very little information on the outside. So no issues with privacy in that regard which I thought was good.

Everything was contained in the bag , return box, sealable sample bag, small sample pot, alcohol swabs, gauze , lancets ( 4 in all) , small plaster, , pre-paid envelope and instructions.

I found it all very straight forward, a matter of signing up on the website, downloading the app, being sent a confirmation email to and then login, fill in the sample reference code and then fill out some personal details.

I also watched the instruction video on a link provided on the website.

I followed the instruction as advised. It said it was best to do the test before 9 am on an earlier week day (I did mine Monday). It also has to be posted to the lab the same day in the pre-paid envelope.

After pricking my middle finger (as recommended) with the lancet I did have a job to get the blood sample to drip into the little pot as it very small and it says you shouldn’t let your finger come into contact with the top of it.

I found I needed to lance another finger on the other hand to get enough blood for the sample. Albeit not much was required. It was down to my poor blood flow by the looks of it.

After a day I received a notification confirmation email that the sample had been received at the lab and then within 2 days I received another notification with my result which showed a normal level. So I was pleased about that, plus the quick turnaround was impressive.

All in all no issues with the sign-up, the app and the whole process, all very straight forward.

The only negative is it’s not cheap ( 47.99 at the time of the review) so marked down for that.

Very Straight Forward - Results Returned Very Quickly

This kit is very impressive and for someone that has done these types of tests before, I can tell you it definitely matches to the quality provided by more popular brands; this is very reliable and efficient. For those that haven’t used this kind of thing before, that’s fine, as the instructions are super simple and clear. Essentially you need to sign up to the website, take the blood, post and wait to receive your results. For me and my husband (I did the vitamin D, he did make hormone), the results arrived the SAME DAY we posted which is beyond speedy – thankfully the results were within the normal range but the explanation was detailed and there is support on hand if you did need further advice and guidance. I’d definitely use these kits again and the brand definitely give me confidence. The price is maybe a tad more pricey for just one check, as I know others will check a few things for around 60-80, but the amount of tests they do is so diverse – just take a look on their website and you’ll see. Highly recommend.

I’ve done a home blood test before, to test if I had any Covid antibodies, so I thought this might be similar.
Everything you need is in a letterbox friendly pack and you need to prick your finger and fill the tube, which is then sent via post to the lab to be analysed.
It’s not a pleasant process as you need to squeeze your finger constantly to try and keep the blood coming out. I ended up using a second finger, blood everywhere and still only just got enough.
I’m not keen on needles but I’d rather go to my doctors and get blood taken out of my arm as my fingers were very sore for quite a while afterwards.
The test need to be sent off at the start of the week, so it doesn’t get delayed in the post over the weekend, possibly invalidating the results.
You get results via the app and someone may contact you if there are any abnormalities.
I suppose there’s certain people that may not be comfortable raising any concerns they have with their GP and asking for blood tests via that route but it’s rather expensive to do this home kit.
Hope you found my review helpful

First thing you have to do is register the test on the companies website. They do ask a lot of personal questions, which if i am being totally honest i struggled to see the relevance. After all i just want some blood test results specific to what i ordered. None the less i answered the personal questions and registered my test. You are then offered the opportunity to receive a text message reminding you to take the test at a specific time set by you. This particular test had to be done first thing in the morning and posted back before 10am, so i opted for the reminder at 05.30hrs.

You get 4 lancets with the blood kit and a small blood vial which you have to fill up to the 600 mark. It looked simple enough, however i was very wrong! Although the blood tube is very small it is actually quite a lot of blood you need to fill it up to the 600 mark. I used all 4 lancets and just about managed to hit the 400 marker. The test clearly advises that if you don’t hit the 600 mark then the test can not be analysed. I then resorted to sticking sterilised pins in the end of my fingers, but no way could i get enough blood out before my finger stopped bleeding. By now my finger tips were very sore! I decided to still submit the sample at the 400 mark (they provide a prepaid envelope). The next day the company text me to say they had received the sample. Two days later i am informed that the sample was not enough and they offered to send me another test free of charge. I accepted. I then logged into the website where they did provide 2 out of the 4 results, with the other 2 results stating ‘incomplete’.

A few days later the new pack arrived via a courier. This time i researched how to make the taking of the sample easier. I discovered that i should drink a few pints of water the night before the sample, a pint on the morning of the sample and take a hot shower. I did this prior to taking the 2nd test and with just 1 lancet in one finger i managed to get enough drips of blood to fill the tube to the 600 line! Again i posted off and within 2 days i received my results. All were normal for a man of my age. The analysis looks at the following, Testosterone, Sex Hormone, Free Androgen, Oestradiol.

Overall i was very pleased with the test kit and even more so the customer service. It clearly was my fault not being able to complete the first test – i must have been very dehydrated. So for them to provide an additional free test was great customer care in my opinion. The website is clear and easy to understand, and results give a detailed explanation of what they mean. I feel the whole service provided by this company is very good.

Do I recommend this product? Definitely – it’s expensive, but private blood tests always are. The customer care is very good and the company clearly do care – they didnt have to provide me with another test.

Top tip: Drink a ton of water the night before and another full pint on the morning of the test! Have a hot shower or a bath – you will find the blood is so much easier to extract!

I hope that you found my review helpful.

Excellent Customer Service & Fast Results

The kit arrived in a neat compact kit which included all you needed to take a small sample of blood from your finger. 4 lances are included if like me your finger stops bleeding, you can start on another finger.

The sample collection tube is a little small and my drops missed it at times but I was able to collect enough in the end.

I sent off my sample on Wednesday afternoon and already by Thursday morning I had a text saying my sample had been received. I also installed the app which gave me notifications to say it had been received. By Thursday evening I received my results which was a very quick turn around. On the app it showed me my exact testosterone levels as well as a chart to show normal levels. Mine came back as normal.

    Very Quick Tes

First off, this is a very expensive test kit. At around 110, you’re paying a lot of money to get your hormones tested. There must be a reson for these kind of private tests, but I don’t see why you wouln’t ask your GP for some test if you had particular concerns?

That aside, over to the kit. In the box, you’ve got everything you need to take the test at home. In the box, there is a set of instrutions and some codes to help you track your samples once you’ve sent them off.

The instructions are laid out in a step-by-step format. I won’t repeat the steps here, as you will be able to read them in the instructions once you receive the kit.

Registering is about a ten minute process. You’ll need to add your email and create a password. There is also quite a long medical history list of questions that you have to fill out. Idf you are unhappy about sharing your medical information, then this test is not for you. You will be asked about your smoking and drinking history, as well as drugs you take and hormone related questions. these have to be completed for you to progress. During the registration process, it reminds you that you have to take the test before 9am in the morning and then to return the test the same day.

When collecting your blood sample, you need to fill the sample tube up to the top line. If you fail to do this, the laboratory will not be able to complete the test. This is quite a lot of blood from a small prick in the finger. You may need to prick the finger again to draw enough blood. Collecting blood isn’t the quickest process. I used the wrong finger at first and got barely any blood. After reading the instructions again, they suggest using the ring finger. This got better results. Even then though, I probab;ly had to get about thirty drops or so to fill the tube. Squeeze the finger and wipe the drop on the inside of the tube. Squeeze, wipe, repeat, squeeze, wipe, repeat.

Seal it all up and into the post. This test was posted on Monday 30th May 2022. Come back later to see when the results were received.

Pricey test kit but does what it’s meant to do

Fantastic set very easy to use and the results come back within the week. I think it is slightly cheaper on their site. Doctors go through results and you can contact a nursing team if you have any worries. Results can be through email or by text. I couldn’t recommend this highly enough in comparison to other tests I have used off other companies in the past.

Okay so this is no fault of the product or service at all but more a case of a husband that doesn’t ever read instructions and wades in like a bull in a china shop lol.

I ordered this kit for him to test out and when he finally got around to doing it, I left him to it trusting he would follow the instructions correctly. Prior to this, I had looked over the kit and saw it was pretty much like any other home test kit. There are the lancets for pricking your finger with to extract the blood. A little test tube, that you are (supposed) to fill to the marker. Some alcohol wipes to clean your finger prior to pricking, a plaster, and all the packaging that you are to return the sample in.
I have done one of these kinds of tests before and found it all pretty straightforward. Hubby went to the bathroom to complete the test whilst I said I would register the kit online. What I had forgotten was this step was supposed to be done first as you are to do the test in the morning. It was now 5 pm by the time my husband came downstairs with it all sealed up and ready to post. Obviously, there was nothing we could do about that now so posted it off.

Two days later my husband received an email down to say unfortunately he had not provided enough blood so the test could not be completed. I asked him how much he put in and he said a good few drops but he kept missing the tube!
What was brilliant though was they said they would send a new test out free of charge if he wished to try again. I thought that was brilliant customer service considering it was his fault lol

So anyway, even though we didn’t get to find out a result, I am still choosing to score this a strong 4/5. The only reason it is not a 5/5 for me is I think it is quite expensive for a test kit. I did a liver one last year and as far as I can remember it came in around the 70 mark and all worked exactly the same with the same service given.

Still a good product with great customer service.

Lets get checked you provide enough sample

So this is great. It comes with everything you need to test safely and securely in the privacy of your own home.
It’s a simple blood test, that requires you to prick your finger and squeeze into a pot.
You can post at a post office using royal mail in a discreet bag, and results take approx 3 days.
You download the app, and all the information is in there to safely run you through what to do. All you do is scan the QR CODE and go from there .
    Definitely recommend!

Fast, accurate and full of information.

    *The good*
    Quick turnaround
Everything you need in the kit
    Clear instructions

    *The not so good*
Not a pin prick of blood
    Registration questions

This is basically a quick way of testing blood for specific conditions rather than getting the test done at your GP for free. Follow ups should always be done with your GP really and I suspect they would repeat the same test and more with a syringe of blood.

The kit has all you need in it to prepare, register, and take the blood and post it off. It is really important that the sample should be taken before 09:00, posted the same day and after overnight fasting.

You get gauze wipes, 4 lancets!, plasters, bio hazard blood sample bag, alcohol wipes, decent instructions and a pre-paid first class post return bag. I would advise making the account and following the registration instructions as it can be quite a lengthy process. There is also a piece of wood for you to bite if you don’t like needle type things (not really).

I posted my sample on the Tuesday, had a text wed pm saying the lab had them, and a text and email Thursday morning showing me the results. That’s pretty good going.

My main criticism though is how to fil up the little pot with blood. I am used to testing blood sugar levels and use diabetic lancets. However it’s not a pin prick test, you have to put enough blood into the test vial to hit the high mark, and for me that was hard work. I ended up with two fingers literally bruised where I had been kneading them to drop enough blood into the pot for the test. The lancets are much broader than a diabetic lancet and there are still puncture marks on my fingers 3 days later. However, it is possible this is an issue with my blood being not runny enough, I don’t know.

Other than that, it does what it says on the packet. A solid four stars from me.

    Quick turnaround

Its a blood finger prick sample that it needs, to be taken Mon or Tues or Wed, before 9am, then posted the same day using the freepost return service, so be aware, this is to ensure the test is returned and processed asap, and you need to activate it online, and complete some health questions before doing so, as thy clinicians at the lab get a better idea of the reason why you are taking it etc, and health situation.

So far the kit arrived and ready to be sent back as i do the test and so far i think that the price here is cheaper than direct price so not too bad in that sense, i just wonder what the result will be, i’m curious now myself, having never done one.

Kit needs activated and setup before taking sample.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersDuncurin was fascinated by these home-testing kits, courtesy of Vine and Lets Get Checked. Of course, with NHS services being in something of, what shall we say now, a difficult period just at present, the opportunity to home self-test across a wide variety of areas, seems like a good one for the curious, the worried and of course those with known medical conditions.
It seems that blood tests in various guises have defined my professional life and I remember being emergency bleeped while in theatre by the nurse in charge of the ward for a patient with dangerously low blood sugar only to find that she’d not used the machine correctly and the patient was fine. Then there was the elderly lady who had a really abnormal blood potassium. I thought her heart was going to stop any moment. I phoned her to tell her that I was sending an ambulance for her only for her to declare that that was impossible as she was flying to Gran Canaria that afternoon. After much pleading and begging I managed to persuade her to attend hospital by saying that if we got things right now then she’d (at the age of 82) have many more holidays to come — and so it was!
Turning now to the test which is contained in a nice neat box containing everything that you’ll need. I selected the male hormone test but many more are available. Keep the box and read the instructions as you’ll need it to return your test in the pre-paid bag also included.
There was an interesting case in the papers recently about a multi-billion-dollar fraud with reference to machines that could do a whole array of tests on a pin-prick of blood. Though much more clever, wealthy and business-savvy people than me poured hundreds of millions into this, and never having seen such a machine, I knew that it was most likely pie in the sky as all my life I have gazed at thousands of blood test tubes hoping and praying that I have got enough blood in there for the test that is crucial and veritable essays have been written on blood forms apologising to the lab staff for the small amount of blood (in the tube) and if they’d do their best (which they always did) I would be very grateful. In fact, I can only think of a couple of tests that are available from a pin prick of blood — one still done on babies via a heel prick.
You need to register your test before you do it and there is no point in doing it Sunday afternoon. In truth I did my test on Monday morning about 9am and then registered it. It was easy enough to complete the details and the questionnaire and I was pleased that they asked all the questions that need to be asked. I was also pleased to see that there are help lines and some backup and support. My problem was that I could not backdate the time when I registered; at 10 am, for instance, I could not go back and say I’d done the test at 9.00. Please note this is an important feature of male hormones as the levels tend to peak in the early hours and then fall as the day proceeds. Indeed, one of the most useful things to ask any man complaining of erectile dysfunction is to ask him if he still wakes in the early hours with an erection.
Please note the test is a fingerprick test and you get a hint of what’s to come by the five pre-loaded lancets that are in the pack. It is a good idea to wash your hands in warm water or immerse them in such as the more blood flowing through your skin the easier. There is no sharp point on show from the pricking devices and it is easy enough to do. I think that the spring-loaded tests which jab your finger using a spring arm or like an enclosed capsule with a press button to ‘fire’ are easier to use and tend to create better blood supply than the ones supplied in the kit but those devices then need re-loadable lancets which need to be disposed of safely. The ones as supplied can be safely put in house waste but are not as good. I found really jabbing it in hard was the only way to get a decent flow of blood. Sadly, this is the problem. You need quite a quantity of blood and it takes an age to get enough and even then with jabbing one’s fingers more than once. It still took an age to get enough blood and it is painful — much more painful than having a proper blood test using a needle in your arm. I found that holding my arm in a dependent position was best but then my fingers were covered and I looked with dismay as two really big drops that could have gone in the tube fell on the floor. I was also worried about the blood clotting not simply because this then slows the blood flow but many a test has been ruined and had to be done again by the blood clotting in the tube before it was mixed. In conclusion, a proper blood test is easier, less painful, heals faster and will deliver enough blood for as many tests as you need but of course needs a trained phlebotomist, nurse etc which of course tends to defeat the home testing scenario we are discussing here.
Next is test interpretation A little care is needed with this. All my professional life I tended to do these same tests on women where the diagnosis of polycystic ovaries (PCOS) was being considered. Women and men need a balance of hormones which are essentially the same – what varies is the nature of that balance and many women with PCOS have imbalanced hormones. Seeing men (not that men present very often) say with low libido was a much more difficult area and often needed referral anyway. To be fair, the pre-flight questionnaire discusses many of these issues. For example, a problem with some young men who were passionate gym goers and weight lifters was the array of stuff they’d pump into their bodies like anabolic steroids and growth hormone usually bought from a guy at the gym! Then there’d be the diets. One chap was eating 20 boiled eggs a day. Then there is obesity. I used to tell my patients that fat hoovers from the blood all the hormones that we need and replaces these with ones that we don’t. Day by day, this is becoming clearer across a wide variety of medical conditions. My point is that interpreting blood tests should always be done on the background of the whole patient and not simply conclude that the test is low (or even normal) without looking at the right context. To be fair, the support available does acknowledge this.
All in all then, this is not a bad way of doing home testing and my results were texted through today but the finger pricking is really hard work and having a needle jabbed in your arm by someone who knows what they are doing is easier, quicker and less painful. Many thanks. Pictures of my pricked fingers are a little bloody so I thought I’d spare you.

I think these tests are a great tool to use to see if you might have a problem, then follow up with your doctor. I would use these tests again to self check and if it shows normal results great, if below normal follow up with a doctor to confirm. I was impressed with how fast the result came back and that they kept in touch letting me know the sample was received and how long it would possibly take for result. I highly recommend LetsGetChecked and this test in particular.
