Does what it says says on the box .
Very happy with this purchase
Got this to add extra inputs to my Audient id22 for my synths. Works perfectly.
When I received the Behringer ADA8200, the Quick Start Guide was in Japanese. I couldn’t read that.
Then I found that the ADA8200 is not passing a signal from a mic. to the analog outputs. I found out that if I was to use this as a standalone preamp, I had to connect a [ADAT] cable from the ADAT output to the ADAT input.
Nothing in the manual to indicate this configuration.
Fantastic. With all the new reasonably priced synths that being old and getting a pension brings, this added to my UMC18i20 allows me to record pretty much everything in one go. Its very reasonably priced, easy to use and sounds great. I dont care what people say about Behringer, they have truly allowed me to achieve my childhood dreams.
Huzzah!
I bought this to have additional 8 inputs for recording a band and I’m not disappointed at all! Connecting it to my Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 was painless. I was able to test it as well on vocals and I’m impressed with the sound quality. There’s more air and clarity to the audio signal. Great value for the price!!!
This is great! Expanded by Babyface Pro, and noise floor is good.
Easy to integrate with my Focusrite 18i20. Works really well though I get a few clicks and pops at lower latency but very reliable if you make the buffer a bit bigger. Sounds fine to my ears but haven’t done any A B testing with the Focusrite. I think they are of a similar quality anyway so wasn’t expecting any drastic difference.
Having a Sapphire Liquid 56 I just wanted to take advantage of ADAT and add an extra 8 input channels. Yes it is only 24 bit at 48 kHz so nothing seriously pro about it, but then neither is the price and its only for “extra channels” should I ever need them. Looks good worked first time and does what its supposed to.
I bought this to replace the previous model which started to get noisy after about 10 years of use. I looked at alternatives but this model does the job perfectly for a great price so I bought it. The pre-amps are improved and the power supply is upgraded too. Highly recommended.
Functions as advertised and sound quality is great. Clock is very good too, I notice no smear or jitter. Highly recommended.
I’m a “one man band” Multi-Instrumentalist operating out of a well-equipped home studio, playing and recording each instrument individually. It’s not unusual that one of my productions consumes 25 tracks or more.
My previous recorder was a standalone Tascam DP-32SD. Although this is a great unit for home studio starters, following the actual recording I had to export tracks, transfer them to my PC via USB, then mix/master the completed song using my Windows-based DAW.
While this worked okay, the process was getting to be quite the tedious hassle, not to mention the fact that REAPER (in my opinion, the best DAW on the planet) has so much more recording function than the Tascam standalone it’s almost unbelievable. That said, I decided to purchase a Behringer UMC1820 and give direct-to-DAW recording a try.
Man, the difference was like night and day, especially sampling at 48kHz/24-bit. Plus, all of the required post-processing work I previously discussed is now a thing of the past.
The only remaining problem was, I use 8 drum microphones. This required cabling my mixer to one of the UMC1820 inputs to accommodate the 8th sub-kick drum microphone, and all other instruments. So, I took it a step further, purchased a Behringer ADA8200 and attached it to the UMC1820 as a slave using Toslink fiber cables, providing me with 8 additional inputs.
I should note that Windows and REAPER immediately picked both interfaces up without the need to install any additional drivers whatsoever… They’re truly plug-and-play.
To avoid being redundant and going over all the features of these two excellent interfaces which are already listed on their product pages, I think it would be much more beneficial to continue discussing my personal experience with them, along with the end results.
This configuration has allowed me to totally dedicate the UMC1820 to my drum microphones, and use the ADA8200 for all other instruments. I was also able to keep my mixer involved by cabling it to one of the inputs on the latter interface.
I then topped the whole thing off by mounting them both in a “Procraft 2U 9″ Deep Equipment Rack”. This is one super-high quality rack, and an incredible value:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CDG8QLI/
The bottom line: Between these two interfaces I now have 16 MIDAS pre-amplified XLR/TRS inputs fed directly into my PC with all controls at my fingertips, sitting directly under my DAW displays (see photo). Most importantly, I’m able to take full advantage of REAPER’s myriad of recording functions, which completely blow the Tascam standalone recorder away.
If you’re thinking about using direct-to-DAW recording, this combination absolutely can’t be beat for the money. The only regret I have is, I’m kicking myself in the butt for not going to A/D interfaces long ago. Look up my latest song “May You Never” on SoundClick, and judge the sound for yourself.
In closing, these Behringer interfaces have exceeded my wildest expectations. I can certainly say without hesitation they’re deserving of my highest recommendation, and if I was able would rate them both at 10 stars in a heartbeat.
So easy to use and more than adequate sounding. Especially for the price!
48k for cheap
Don’t buy it if you have Windows 10 or 8, it will never works. You will hear something and be able to play videos on youtube, but your sound on your DAW will be clicking and stopping. And it’s not like Windows 10 came out last week ! I asked berhinger about an update fixing the problem, no answer. They probably don’t care. Maybe works with Mac ! So now, I have to downgrade to Windows 7 or buy a Mac… After spending 300$ on ADA8200 and 400$ on FCA1616, my MAYA from 2000 works better and cost me 10$. I’m now on debt and my studio isn’t working anymore… so think about it… carefully. If someone want to buy both of it I can sell it to you !!!!
We got this to extend out Focusrite interface, it works really well, and the sounds quality is pretty good for what you pay
The pres sound great at any price – perfectly good sound for silly money – dirt cheap 8 channels to add to my UAD Apollo 8. Synced via UNC cable so didn’t have to use the ADA8200 as master clock.
worked as expected to increase the number of inputs on my behringer interface. watch some you tube videos on how to set these things up because it’s not exactly plug and play.
This is an insane value IMO. I record at 44.1kHz. PERIOD. There is no reason to use a higher rate – PERIOD. There are technical reasons that this is true but I’m not here to create a debate. For those that don’t waste money and computer resources so that they can brag about their new $5000 192kHz interface, the Behringer ADA8200 is the ideal expansion unit for adding channels to any ADAT light pipe equipped audio interface.
The preamps sound color free and very clean and quiet but with plenty of gain. They can also handle very high input levels without clipping.
I can’t say enough good things about this unit. It’s much shallower and lighter than the ADA8000 it replaced. The detents are gone on the preamps (an improvement) and the power supply is now switched mode rather than linear. The result is ZERO hum and light weight. Suffice to say you’ll be hard pressed to find an input source that exceeds the S/N ratio of this unit. It’s not the best AD/DA on the market by any means, but today’s converters are so good the line between the best and the budget converters is beginning to blur. You won’t be disappointed with the quality of this unit. Learn the Nyquist theorem and abandon the folly of high sample rates. They aren’t needed with modern digital filters and they hog valuable computer resources, limiting the number of tracks and plugins you can run.
It’s very good for tracking but I wanted to use it to run signal to outboard gear and there is a 1216 samples of latency it’s unsusable
Still the preamps are decent the build quality is solid and conversion pretty good especially for the price
Tolles Preis-Leistungs Verhltnis. Grundrauschen fr einfache Line Quellen ohne High-End Qualittsansprche vllig akzeptabel.
I know it might be a thing everyone knows already but just want to make it clear: if you want to use this thing to act as preamps for some basic inputs like I do, you will need to plug in an optical cable and connect this device TO ITSELF before the rear outputs will work.
This worked great. Locked in with my Behringer UMC1820 without a problem. Preamps are nice and quiet. This really worked well to add another 8 tracks to my portable recording rig.
The product is ok. The preamps are Goodyear and transparente but the packaging is very poor and fragile. Amazon did not sended it in a good packaging.
Works great as an ADAT breakout for my UA Apollo. Literally plug in, activate the channels on the Apollo and its good to go
Good bang for the buck, and works with my Arturia sound interface thru optical ADAT cable. It’s good for expanding your inputs 4 or 8 channels, with caps on sample rate. I’m maxed at 8 channels at 24bit, 48k. Which is still a decent rate. It’s a bit touchy with flimsy optical jacks (all inputs and outs are low grade metal or. plastic). But that said it hooks up with relative ease and sound that exceeds the price point.
Great unit fantastic price, does the job wonderfully for me, but potential buyers should be aware of this key piece of information that may not be obvious without reading the manual:
*You cannot use this unit as a standalone analog preamp.*
The analog outputs are coming from the ADAT IN. There is no connection between the analog inputs (front) and the analog outputs (back). If you want to use this as a standalone preamp you must connect its ADAT OUT to its ADAT IN.
That is not necessarily a problem, it is just an aspect of the unit’s functional design that you should take into consideration depending on how you plan to use it.
Besides that, it is a great device with a straightforward and intuitive design. Sounds great to me. Surprisingly low latency (negligible for most purposes). Looks nice as well. Seems well-built, except perhaps for the front knobs which seem a TAD flimsy, but hey this thing does the job of much more expensive units. For a home recording studio on a budget, it’s a no brainer.
Came with a sticker 🙂
I wanted the extra 8 channels that the Behringer offers out of the box and this beauty appeared to fill that criteria. Just like several other reviewers of this product, I own the Scarlett 18i20 interface and was hoping it was a straight out of the box connection. My device works just fine, but I have to say it was not an intuitive connection and I wanted to share how I got this beautiful kit working with Logic Pro X.
A couple of handy tips, don’t forget your world clock cable, and optical cable (you only need one) and connect them before getting started with the Logic Pro X connection. Remember to open up your Scarlett software and change the channels 9 through 16 to ADAT input and choose whatever output channel you need. In Logic, remember to use channel eleven and select one the ADA8200 to enable channel selection. I could not find this very needed information readily on the internet, so wanted to share. Once this is complete, all 16 channels are available. Happy recording and great product!
This is really the only game in town at this price. The pre’s are alright, a bit cold and flat. But nothing you can’t fix up in post. I wouldn’t run your main vocals through this, but adding 8 channels for drums or aux to a recording setup is perfect. I also use it to run out some headphone mixes for the instrumentalists. I mean, you can buy some great plugins to add some warmth to it, in replacement of how much you’d pay for some better optic converters.
With this Preamp I could add 8 more channels to my soundcard, using an optical fiber connection. And the quality and performance of the equipment is another proof that Behringer knows the right thing we need even with a reasonable budget.
I got this to inexpensively add 8 more channels of I/O, to feed multiple headphone sends, and works great for it’s intended use.
Great addition to my Scarlett 18i20. Added 8 more channels for drums and mics.
Solid. Remember, 48 and 44.1 kHz sample rates only! Great for your road setup, or at home if you aren’t an audio label snob. This is my second one, my latest has the Midas preamps, Good upgrade!
I made the switch in my studio from older analog preamps to these digital versions, and I’m really impressed. I originally bought just one in case the quality wasn’t as advertised. But right out of the box I got clean, clear, full sound with excellent output. Each channel also offers both a mic and line input. And phantom power too! The price is right on this unit, especially when compared to the expensive high end pro models. I ultimately bought 3 and I’m really happy with 24 pristine digital channels. Sounds WAY more expensive than it costs. Great product! Great quality!
The most affordable way to expand your audio interface’s 8 channel ADAT output. Has so far worked well in live performances with RME Babyface Pro.
Great clean sounding preamps in an affordable package. This is my secret weapon in projects. I’ve known many studios that keep these just in the bullpen waiting for their time. I use it to expand my Scarlett 18i20 interface and it works perfect.
Added this to a digi003 worked flawlessly sound pretty darn good! Can’t beat it!
This was a great addition to my Focusrite 18i20. It provides 8 clean preamps & new input, and required zero setup. Highly recommended!
Does what is is supposed to do and for a good price. Conversion to and from digital pretty much faultless. Ideal for use as 8 exrta inputs over ADAT.
Similar to the oder ADA8000. Occasionally, one channel develops a digital “hiss.” Power cycling the unit cures the problem.
It is what it is and it does what it does very well. I have it slaved to an ID22 and it’s flawless and dead quiet.
Actually I think behringer is now a real great company . I remember when they first started off, they were kinda garbage, but Now I stand by behringer 100% . This product is unbelievable. It’s a a great DI box, and mic preamp when you need to get your levels hotter to your recorder. I’m using it now to record my drums into a pro tools HD rig, and man did it come in handy. For 200 bucks, where are you gonna find another piece of equipment that will do what this does, no where . Ian so glad I purchased this pre amp.
I use this to convert my various outboard gear mics and guitars into adat and into my tascam 1804 so not the newest equipment and it works great. Well worth the investment.
Amazing value if you want additional, above-average I/O through ADAT.
I needed more inputs to record my band live using Ableton Live and my Motu 8pre. Setup was easy, just plugged in an optical cable and had to do very little software adjustments to get it working. While these aren’t the best sounding pres, they do the job. The outputs can also be used to create separate monitor mixes, but I haven’t fully explored that capability yet. This was recommended to me by a professional audio engineer as the best bang-for-your-buck, and I have to agree.
I used this to add 8 mic preamps to a professional digital audio card (using adat connector). Works great and sounds great.
Great for the price. Using with my Pro Tools HD 96IO, setup was very easy.
My order arrived very quickly. Plugged it into my RME Babyface and it synced up instantly. Tried recording a few sources simultaneously and it worked really well, very little latency. Preamps sound good, doubt you could beat them for the price. The real test will come in 2 weeks when I record my buddies band. Might update review after that.
Love ’em or hate ’em, Behringer are brilliant at creating low cost products to solve common audio studio problems. This little box works brilliantly.
Great unit, excellent audio quality, easy to use BUT apart from the mains power cable, no other leads are included!!!!!
I expected that everything would be in the box in order to be able to use the unit immediately with my Focusrite Scarlett. But on opening the box I was aghast to find that they don’t include the optical TOSlink cable or the BNC ADAT cable. So I had to spend yet more money to buy these cables separately.
For what is supposed to be a professional item, this is a major omission. What were Behringer thinking?!
So, if you are planning to buy this rack unit – and I do highly recommend it, make sure you order the leads you require at the same time!
I love the ada8200. It’s a great add on for my sound card to extend to 16 channels. It doesn’t get hot as it’s precedessor at Al and works for hours on going.
Happy recording
I was having trouble setting it up at first (didn’t resort to the manual) but as soon as I tried using 2 TOS-link cables to the FCA1616, it worked perfectly. I believe that’s because I am using it as a clock slave, so one line is for the clock signal, and another is for the return audio. Very happy with it.
Definitely a good addition for a project studio. Pre’s are reasonably good & TOS link to main mixer simple.
Bang for the buck. I use 2 of these with a RME RayDat for tracking live performances with Saw Studio and can’t believe how good the combination sounds. Staggers my mind. The only drawback is the connections on the front, would be so much nicer if the inputs were routed to the back.
A great upgrade from the old ADA8000, a very clean sound and transpare
I’m using this unit with a Focusrite Scarlett 1820 audio interface and it gives me an additional 8 channels via a single ADAT cable. Setting up was easy. Make sure you order an ADAT connector…this one works perfect although a bit pricey: just search B005LJQMZC. I am now able to have all my synths, drum machines, and an old rack TX81z hooked up ready to go when my fellow musicians show up each week. You can do quite a bit with 16 inputs total and although most get used up, it saves a lot of time to have them all set up by levels in Ableton Live with VST effects on each channel as needed. As to the sound? It sounds okay to me. I don’t run a pro studio so I’m not going to spend my time and money looking for the pristine sounds of high end gear. The guys I play with just want to make music and enjoy and these extra inputs help with that. We’ve consistently made some very good-sounding songs. For the price it is just unbeatable. Now, my only gripe is that all the inputs are on the front so be prepared to have all those wires running across the front of the unit an partially blocking your view of each channel and the on/off switch and lights. I’m using velcro tie-downs to keep things in place. It’s not a deal-killer but it’s also not too cool. I would much rather have had inputs on back and controls for inputs in the front…then it would be perfect. So, I’m giving it a “5” since the price is just too good. But the real rating would be about a 4.5. Why quibble?
Finally, it’s here. The previous model ADA8000 used to generate soon much heat!! This model runs much bette
I bought this to add additional mic preamps to a Focusrite 18i20. It was a breeze to get it going and since it is so cheap it is a great way to add some more preamp inputs. Not high end but actually pretty decent sound. A great inexpensive way to expand your setup with adat.
