I love this feeder. I love that I have control over letting larger birds use it or not. However, when I do open up the large bird feeder vents the food doesn’t last but 3 days. I think it more just falls out then birds are eating it. It’s really easy to fill though and the birds all flock to it.
The birds are gonna love this feeder! It holds 2.6 pounds of feed. Squirrel proof. Seems to be very durable. I’ve got to pickup some bird feed and the the birdies will have a new restaurant! Little pricey but I really like it! Would recommend.
I have a huge issue with acrobatic squirrels voraciously eating the birdseed despite all sorts of attempts to stop it. We’ve slowed it down a lot and so I was hoping this squirrel-proof feeder would complete the task. Sadly, the squirrels just grab on to it then stick their little feet right in and grab the food. It’s actually pretty funny to watch. The cage might make for more of a challenge for some squirrels though so maybe it’s reduced the interest?
That criticism aside, the feeder is great. It’s sturdy and easy to fill (I use a plastic gallon container that I cut the bottom off of as a funnel and angle it to get around the middle support that goes across the opening). See photo of the adjustment screws to adjust the bottom seed holes. The directions are in English that was really good English too! It’s about half the size of the other feeder I have which was a similar price but this feeder is made with a heavier weight metal than the other one. The handle on this one is also secured on vs the other that comes off very easily and makes hanging it up high challenging to do without the handle coming off.
It did take a couple of weeks before being consistently used by the birds. It’s been out for about a month and it’s a busy place now. I’m in CT and have loads of smaller birds eating from it very consistently.
It’s worth the money if you’re looking for a nice feeder (that might still attract squirrels!)
This feeder came within 2 days of ordering and was packaged very well.
Filling it with seed is a little tricky because a metal bar dissects the seed tube near the top causing seed to slide out.
We filled feeder with a seed mixer that our backyard birds seem to love. We placed it on a Shepard hook in area where cardinals and buntings have been eating.
At first no birds were interested. We started putting seed on lower lip of base. Today I noticed a woodpecker on it. So hey! Maybe that’s how it starts?!
The first thing I noticed is that this bird feeder is larger than I expected. It’s sturdy and well made. We set up multiple bird feeders. We have quite the variety. None of ours look like this at all. I like the cage around it. I’m not sure if it will truly keep the squirrels out. The squirrels in our yard are very clever!! I don’t have any problems with the design restricting some of the birds from it. We have so many bird feeders that no one is getting left out! It’s no easier or harder to clean than the others. We try to clean ours with a bleach/water solution once or twice a month. If it was too difficult, we would probably stop using it.
All our birds, small to cardinal sized, love it! Comes apart for easy cleaning, too. No more goopy plastic cylinder! Too early to tell if the squirrels will get into it. Pretty sure they will not be deterred!
Very nice design and will keep the seeds for the small birds.. No assembly required, top screws o
This is a solid bird feeder.
The whole thing is made of metal except for the feeding tube. The cage around the outside is big enough to let small birds through, but too small for squirrels. The only way in to the feeding area other than that is through the top. The top cover screws onto the feeder and after taking it off, a wing nut holds the feeding tube firmly in place. There are small holes in the bottom of the feeder to allow water to drain as well.
Overall, this is a great bird feeder if you have a problem with squirrels destroying your feeder and raiding the seed.
The Mosloly Cage Bird Feeder is a nice design as it has a door at the bottom that you can set to allow squirrels or big birds to feed or close it and fasten with the enclosed screw to keep it closed so that only the little birds can feed. We find that the bigger birds and critters like to empty the feeders so that the finches and cardinals never get any seed. Im really hoping this feeder helps with that problem. It does seem like a squirrel might be able to get his head through the cage but I dont think they will be able to empty it. Especially when I filled it with seed the squirrels don’t like such as thistle and safflower seeds. It shouldn’t take them long to figure out that there is no food for them available. This feeder is easy to empty of the shells after the birds eat the seed inside as it just unscrew from the bottom, empty and screw the bottom back on. The feeder also closes tight at the top so that the squirrels can’t unscrew it and get inside the feeder. I put a full feeder out just before dark and should know by midmorning if this is the feeder for me. If so I will update this review and order a couple more.
This bird feeder is of good material. The seed holder is in a cage that prevents squirrels from getting to the bird food, but has holes big enough for birds to perch and enjoy the seeds. You can adjust to have seeds fall into the bottom tray to allow larger birds to feed or you can keep it close so only small birds can feed.
I will send you an updated one we set it and get the seeds.
This feeder works great with millet and black oil sunflower seeds, which are both favorites of the small birds that can fit through the rectangular gaps. We get chickadees, juncos, warblers and wrens on this feeder. The trick is to close the bottom half-circle feeding ports using the adjustable ring provided. Otherwise the millet will just pour out the bottom. You can see a lot of millet in the tray in our photo, which was taken before we closed the port. The birds quickly learn to eat from the tube openings.
Happy customer!
It came basically assembled, just needed a bit of tweaking and it was up in moments! I am looking forward to seeing the birds enjoying it.
Easy to fill up but the pigeons soon sussed how to get to the seed
Great for little birds but does not keep grackles from feeding
The feeder is heavy duty so it can handle the pigeon weight if the bird manages to perch on it. I bought it to prevent those birds from getting the seeds that fell on the ground, but the bird just got on it and fed directly from the bottom tray. To be fair, it is a very good feeder and cute considering it is a cage hanging from your tree.
