Great watch, I have watches that need batteries or rely on movement to keep them going. This watch takes all the faff out of that.
I had this watch saved in my wish list for ages, as I couldn’t justify spending nearly 400 on a watch. Having saved a small fortune in petrol whilst working from home I took the plunge and could not be more pleased with it! The watch arrived “dead” but I left it on the window sill and looked online at the setting up process. I was a bit concerned as it seemed a bit tricky, but when I looked at the watch a few hours later – hey presto! It had set itself automatically.
It is a really great looking watch, not too flashy, just very smart.
The radio controlled feature is great, no need to reset, unless travelling abroad but that seems straightforward enough. The best thing though is never needing to bother replacing the battery, which also means the seal on the case doesn’t get opened so it should stay waterproof for ever.
All in all, a lovely watch which seems excellent value for money given the built in tech.
Very rarely do I give 5* reviews but this watch deserves it
Bought via Amazon by my wife for me as I was away, the watch had minimal power reserve but a day sitting in cloudy daylight restored the battery to 100%. Time and calendar setting was very easy, just follow the instructions ( online video also very good) and sit back and be amazed as after about 5 minutes the hands and date moved to the exact time. It will also regularly automatically check the Citizen radio signal and correct the time…am still left in complete wonder by the technology! I have updated with no issues as far west in the UK as you can be ( signal comes from Germany) and quite simply, you cannot have a more accurate time piece.
It also has an alarm, stopwatch function and has a good level of water resistance which is the norm for this type of watch at this price point.
The leather strap is very good quality and the overall appearance of the watch is extremely attractive. The dial face and movements are clear and easy to read day and night and the glass itself seems resistant to the normal day to day use that my watch receives. And I do wear it every day, all day…it is suitable for all occasions.
Any downsides? The built in time zones are UK and US but you can alter for others. I assume the watch in other markets would have the dial face printed zones suitably altered.
Overall, I am both delighted and rather enthusiastic about this gem of a watch. Actually wear it in preference to others including a Breitling.
The model has been in production for some time and I can see why….superb, heartily recommend it!
Good value for money easy to set up would recommend this watch to everybody
belle horloge mais sur la rgion parisienne on ne peut pas rgle
Everything has a quality look and feel. The automatic time keeping is super accurate. The watch is very easy to use. It’s comfortable to wear too. The crystal seems durable… I wacked it a few times by accident and not a scratch. If you like what you see in the pictures, you certainly won’t be disappointed when it arrives.
I’m loving the watch so far. When it arrived the battery was completely dead but after charging it up in the sun it’s been great. Receives the radio signal just fine in Las Vegas. Very classy looking. My only real complaint is the 24mm lug width that uses a curved spring bar. There’s no reason this shouldn’t have a standard 22mm lug width for a watch this size.
I uploaded a photo showing the luminous feature. Overall I love this watch. It is a great dress watch and also for casual/sporty wear. I like the radio time synchronization feature as I know the watch is always perfectly in time. My old Citizen watch would be off a few minutes occasionally but then it is now 20 years old
This watch is awesome! It’s on its way to me as I write this review. How do I know this watch is so awesome? It’s because I own the titanium version!!! I actually own two of the titanium versions. And I do own other eco-drives. You can’t beat the sapphire crystal for the price, the AT, perpetual calendar, alarm, chronograph and on and on!!!!! Need I say more!!!
Update: Just got my watch and it is AWESOME!!!!
I swapped the band it came with. It’s a GT black leather band from STRAPSCO. The one it came is very nice. I’ll probably switch back if I use the watch for a dressier occasion. I can’t believe it came from the UK market!!! When I opened the case it like came to life. It was set for London time ( so cool ) when I pulled the crown to set it to Los Angeles time it took a second to adjust the time the date and day all on its own. That’s why I love this watch. Iike I mentioned before I own two of titanium versions and looking to purchase the black one too.
so not only do i not like the watch, it doesn’t work anymore, not typical of the other citizen watches i own…i need to return it…..
Excellent watch. It runs on sunlight,it is radio controlled. I don’t need to adjust it at all.
The watch strap is small to medium in size and fits me.
Beautiful design, and arrived with the perpetual calendar seemingly already set? Top work
Overall a good watch. I chose it because of solar power. It took few days to charge, then it adjusted itself. The strap a bit stiff, it should soften with time. The 24h dial, not needed for me. The watch is designed for USA and UK, so has got USA time zones and GMT.
I absolutely love this watch. Classy looking and chunky enough without being overly big and I have small wrists.
As always a first class item, you will not be disapointed with Citizen watches
I thought I’d write a review about this watch as I’ve owned one for 9 months. I’d have to say it’s pretty much perfect. When I first received it out of it’s packaging, it set the time by itself. You may find the battery charge is quite low and the second hand moves every 2 seconds to indicate this. I put mine under my bedside lamp and shone the light directly at the dial and within a few hours it was charged enough. The watch loves light, particularly sunshine and as we’ve had plenty of that in the UK over the summer, it is still fully charged. The things I really love about it is accuracy – it’s always completely in sync with the clock on your pc, tablet or phone. It also looks great without being ostentatious. It took a while to work out the functions, but the instruction booklet is excellent and you will learn how to use the watch without too much trouble (although I still haven’t worked out the perpetual calender yet) *minor gripe* 😉
The only other slight negative is the strap which has already been mentioned by another reviewer. I have the same small issue with one notch being too loose and the next too tight, but that’s a very minor thing.
Overall, like many others have said, you cannot go wrong with this timepiece. It’s superbly crafted and a lot more accurate than many more expensive watches on the market.
I’ll leave you with a pic of mine…
Happy shopping 🙂
Works great and love the dial so much. Wished the leather strap was a little wider till the end as the tapered look doesn’t look manly.
Looks very smart and suits any outfit combination. Always punctual and hassle free can’t recommend enough
I have had eco phone for over ten years it’s still going perfectly but my latest phone with radio control is the icing on the cake
I bought this watch after much deliberation and consideration of other comments posted here. I only have it a few days but I must say that I really love it. It looks and feels great, looks much better than it does on the pictures. When I removed it from the box it was not working (as mentioned by other users) but I placed it under a desk lamp (LED) and within an hour or so it had started up, the second hand moving every two seconds indicating low charge. I left it under the light for the night and by morning it was functioning as it should, it had set itself to the correct time and was charged to about 50-60%. While it has yet to reach full charge it is working without issue.
On the negative side while there is 5 predefined time zones plus the alternate time zone, I think would have been better if there was more that 1 time zone in Europe (and not 4 in US) for example CET as I travel to this region. I live in the GMT time zone so not a huge issue, I can use the alternate time zone, in any case I knew this before I purchased.
I went for standard delivery which was satisfactory and in line with the expected delivery timeline, I received it just over a week after I ordered it.
Overall after a few days of ownership I am very pleased.
A good-looking, technically advanced watch at an excellent price. As it is solar powered, I will never have to wind it/buy batteries/shake it. As it is radio-controlled, I will never have to alter it. As it is really waterproof, I will never have to take it off whilst swimming.
The only downside is the appalling, cheap and nasty strap. I have replaced it with a quality fabric strap which is far more practical and good looking. Pity Citizen did not put a good strap on to match a good watch, I would have happily given it five stars.
I have 7 citizen watches and I love them all. This is my second atomic watch and it is smart enough to be used as a dress watch. My wrist aren’t big so if you have large wrist it might be worthwhile trying one before you buy.
Very nice looking watch with out the price tag. so far so good
Wow! What a fantastic watch. Superb build quality and the looks are very versatile – dressy and sporty. The relief on the face gives it depth and the diameter looks fine on my smaller wrist. The face does have a coloured finish where the dials and solar panels are but this adds to the appeal of the overall look. I think one reviewer called the colour brown. It is in a sense but has a purplish hue to it – very nice indeed. The leather strap is good quality and again enhances the dressy look. AMAZING timepiece for the price! I wholeheartedly recommend.i
I’ve been eyeing this watch for a while and decided to finally get it. This watch looks better than it does in the picture shown and the functionality is amazing.
Quick piece of advice, you do need to charge it for a while. I thought mine was broken when I first opened it.
Just purchased this product and as my first watch, it is beyond exceptional. Although it’s not a watch orinetated around fashion, it still looks good. The watch has many features from it’s eco-drive technology to a tachymeter. The luminous hands (shown in pictures) stay illuminated for hours depending on how much light they get during the day or how much artificial light they get.
Bought this online at WatchShop.
I really like the wide range of features of this watch. The build of the watch seems to be of high quality. I wrote this review mention that the new watch will appear to not be working straight of the box because the rechargeable battery is drained and needs to charge. I left mine under an LED lamp for a few hours and, when I came back, it had independently set the time and date for me. I find the shiny “crocodile skin” effect leather strap a bit old fashioned for my liking. I will probably buy an official replacement stainless steel strap off eBay for it.
NB: Before you purchase a replacement strap for this watch, please note that it uses curved spring bars. Some replacement leather straps are only compatible with straight spring bars. I made that mistake and couldn’t fit the strap to the watch even though it was the correct width (i.e. 24mm).
Couldn’t be happier with this watch. Best one I’ve ever owned and have had a lot of compliments.
Holds charge very well considering it’s in a drawer a lot of the time and under a sleeve the rest of the time.
I know a good watch – own plenty of sub 3k pieces.
Quality is excellent. Functions are great and easy to use. 6 year warranty as standard when registered on line.
It sits well on my wrist (7″) and covers with shirt sleeve. Sapphire crystal as standard – always a necessity, particularly if you wear for everyday use. This is my workhorse and the one I will now go to for use everyday.
The strap is ok but is its weak link. Used to better quality. I will change it for my Hirsch Alligator strap out of personal choice and not necessity.
Amazon price is competitive and with free next day delivery too.
I bought this watch because I wanted a really good quality water proof watch to replace a cheaper watch which had stopped working. I needed a replacement watch in time for a holiday in early June. I noticed the estimated delivery time for the citizen watch was between 1 and 2 months so I ordered it earlier than intended to endure that I received it in time. The watch actually arrived 4 days after the order was placed.
When researching potential purchases I was impressed with the specifications of this watch. I also find leather straps to be more comfortable than a stainless still band.
The appearance of the watch is stylish without being flashy. I think that the atomic time keeping and the perpetual calendar are great and the eco drive is impressive. I have had this watch for one week only and already I love it and am really pleased with my purchase.
Great watch, only issue is the strap, very small and a bit naff
Love it, love it, love it!
Does evertything described to perfection including setting itself once it reached minimum charge level, got it at 11am, left it in direct sunlight and went to work, came home to find it automatically set the date and time with literally no input from me, and showing 75% charge. And did the same again went the clocks back to GMT..
Brilliant stuff, and register online for an added one year warranty so six years
beautiful watch. at first I couldn t make it work, I think the batteries were absolutely empty, but after a few days it started working properly
he watch arrived appeared to be not working due to low charge put on window sill for 24hrs and hey presto time date perfect fully charged all automatic adjustments made have faith and give it time
Love this watch, a lot of quality for the money. Bought the version with titanium strap too.
Really read the manual, again and again.Try two people doing.Once the many functions are worked out and checked to see how they work the watch keeps time, date, year and forever, but you have to really think about how it works because it can go haywire. The crown needs to be moved gently or the whole thing whizzes. Patience and brains for power supply and look at all the dials as the watch will go into auto movement when it know what you want to do. Great fun and games to get it going.Robotic.
Looks good and is not to heavy on the wrist.Be prepared for it not to obey straight away and have patience.Good black strap.
Needed a good everyday watch which was to be accurate, stylish and good quality. This watch fits all of these requirements. Very accurate has no problem syncing to the radio signal from Germany from here in Ireland, but just in case of low signal in some countries I visit have ordered the Citizen RCW/SU-3 passive antenna to boost the signal if necessary. This is not available from Amazon but from other sources in Europe. The watch was a great buy and at a good price with Prime delivery. Highly recommended.
Got the watch today and it looks so darn good. As I opened the box, the watch activated and all the dials spun around to show the current time. Its nice and heavy, big, and very classy. The leather strap really sets it apart from the others. Went through the booklet and it is very easy to use. I left it on the windowsill for the day and it was fully charged. the booklet says that at full charge the battery should last 220 to 310 days which was a nice surprise as I was expecting to have to charge it every few of days.
The Watch looks gorgeous and does everything that the other reviewers have said.
The picture however, is not an accurate one. The inside part of the dial, which looks a bit greyish in the picture, is infact a dark shade of brown.
Keep this in mind before buying the item. Other than that, a smashing watch!
Superb watch. Arrived ahead of schedule. Pretty easy setup so had nothing to do. Keeps perfect time to the second so will no longer be using either my Rolex or Jaegre le Coultre watches.
Have now had it over 3 years and still works perfectly.
Best buy ever.
Now had it for 6 years and is still the best watch I’ve ever despite buying another rolex recently !
A smart, practical watch at an affordable price that’s always accurate – what’s not to like?
A rather geeky timepiece, but nonetheless a nice watch for everyday use.
/H
Bought this watch after much research, got it for 205 at simpstons Jewellers. Why do I think this is the best watch I have owned? Simply this, I love watches, I have a Rolex, 2 Omegas, and various other manual watches. But in a watch I value accuracy as my highest priority ( Citizen states this radio controlled watch is accurate to 1 sec in 20 million years) I don’t think I will be around when it loses a second! I have bosses who are extremely anal when it comes to time -keeping I now have a time piece that is far more accurate than their Tags and Breitling’s. On top of that, it is waterproof to 20 atm ( real world 200m or realistically 50m. It has sapphire glass so no scratches or blemishes. But wonderfully it uses citizens Eco-Drive technology which means it charges itself using light (i.e ) no batteries . All in all, an excellent watch for everyday/sport usage .
Highly Recommended

Good quality watch with all the features you need.
I’m checking it right now against internet atomic time and it’s accurate to the second.
A word of warning though. I found if I manually triggered a radio update during the day the time was off by about 15 seconds. If I leave it to sync on its own (at 2:00 AM I think), it’s accurate to the second. I have since found out that quality of the signal varies depending on the time of day. This maybe what caused the discrepancy for me (and maybe some of the others that have reported inaccuracies). Just something to be aware of.
Very impressive watch. Would have been great if it had been charged when it arrived as it took 2 days to fully charge before i could use it. However overall i am very impressed.
Excellent watch, amazingly accurate and versatile. Highly recommended, for those purchasing without having the opportunity to see it “in the metal” rest assured you will not be disappointed, this is a good quality watch.
Just got mine today and totally love it already! Came time set already so I just simply put it on my wrist. Splendid! Worth the wait…
This is the only watch you’ll ever need, supremely accurate, no battery change ever. There are plenty of useful functions, 60 minute chrono, alarm, custom time zones and perpetual calendar so no monthly re-setting. I like my automatic Breitlings but as a ‘grab and go’ quartz watch this is unbeatable. The 5 year warranty makes it an even better buy so get one of these today!
This is a lovely watch, I bought it for my husbands birthday and he is very pleased with it, We would highly recommend it and as always Amazon are fantastic to order from
Im a big fan of nice watches and have a few accurist ones in my collection, and i can honestly say that this is my best looking one yet. I prefer the leather strap to the bracelet ones because they irritate my arm, the watch itself is very elegant and looks great when being worn. The face isnt too big and the dials are nice in their design. This is my first citizen watch i have purchased and i cannot be more pleased, apart from the expensive price this is a must buy for anyone who likes a sophisticated watch.
A great looking watch, keeps time perfectly. On the downside my partner finds it complex for example to even adjust simple things like date. The manual is lengthy with sometimes sketchy detail.
Superb watch in all aspects from its atomic timekeeping to its face and looks. The only down side is the fact that the atomic time setting has only London and USA settings-fine if you’re going to America, but no use in Europe., as it still shows GB time, but other than that it’s a great watch at a good price.
A previous reviewer stated that his 3 main requirements were: sapphire glass, atomic time keeping and solar powered. He summed it up perfectly.
I admit that a degree of waterproofing is very convenient, leaving it on when you bathe or swim is a useful feature, but 200m water resistance is a bit more than I’ll ever need. On that note however, being able to do several things incredibly well while still looking understated on your wrist is what I found most appealing about this watch.
It is definitely not a “shouty” watch, even the metal bezel is finished in brushed, non-reflective steel. The multifunctional chronograph dials just go about their business without troubling you for attention.
You don’t really need to do anything apart from strap it onto your wrist and go. I expect that at some stage in the future I will sit down with the instructions but, one month into ownership, I’m not sure when that day will come.
It took me quite a while of looking at other models before deciding on this one; I am happy to say I do not regret my choice in any way.
I had a few requirements when looking for this watch, Perpetual Calendar and Radio Controlled, and this looks watch looked the best balance between cost and functions. It took a few minutes to work out all the functions but now up and running it works perfectly.
I bought this watch as a second watch, I already have another Citizen watch but with metal bracelet and wanted a leather strap as an alternate.
So far very happy with the purchase, now to start saving for another, get the feeling I might be making a collection of Citizen watches.
Excellent watch. Don’t hesitate to purchase. The only thing I noticed is that after a radio synch the watch appears to be 5 seconds faster than the atomic clock on the internet. Maybe time delay from web to what I am viewing on watch. I can’t be petty over a few seconds for this price.
Excellent daily watch seems very durable and able to handle the outdoor elements. Only problem I found was that the inlay was a bit flat and boring. Nothing really pops out, just your standard watch. I really enjoy the canvas strap very functional and durable.
I bought this watch after reading the good reviews. I also wanted a quality timepiece at an affordable price and one that didn’t need a constant battery change, having it radio controlled is a huge bonus. The only small criticism I have of this product are the watch hands they look cheap and frail, other than that great.

Well what can I say about this GREAT looking watch it’s beautiful in a manly kind of way lol,I’ve always been the tough Casio G-Shock kind of guy rough and ready for anything (you never know when Ray Mears my come a calling for a trip to back of beyond, that sounds so wrong lol). But after finding this one evening it was love at first sight (yes I know I need to get out more) and my very first Citizen Watch is now sitting on my wrist I’m as happy as a pig in poo,and the watch was set to the right time/date etc straight out of the box only needed a little time to work out the puzzle of setting the alarm but once done HAPPY DAYS plus it’s sounded pretty loud the alarm not much in it between this and my last G-Shock.
Now the reason YOU should buy this for yourself or better yet get your other half to buy it for you for Christmas,on the 22nd of November 2013 I paid 269 to Amazon NOW less than 10 days later it’s 45 cheaper,so I a little pissed with Amazon and I’ve just told them so,but don’t let me being in a pissy mood 🙁 put you off getting this great watch.
If anybody wants a really good watch that tells the time accurately, shows the date, the day of the week, works by radio signal, has a perpetual calendar and has a good leather strap…. What more can you ask of a watch? Have seen this at 300 elsewhere, got it here at 76 less…..Go for it but just watch the price. Since 13th November this watch has changed price twice was 224 up to 250 odd now 292 ,and that’s on Amazon… So be patient…..no longer working. worked for 23 months..Sent back to Citizen now working again. A tip for eco-drive watches let it see the light..
I give this watch 5 stars because it really is the bees knees of cool looking watches. All the functions are things I can actually use and not just there to look impressive. The radio control is brilliant with a strong signal almost anywhere and the solar charging system is always fully charged. Well pleased.
Great looking watch, very comfortable, easy to use and keeps great time. I might even look for it in a different colour.
Wore this watch throughout an extensive tour of USA and it always delivered accurate time never ever needing to be wound up.
Bought this watch yesterday from my local authorised Citizen retailer in falmouth really please with it, looks great gots lots of nice features and very well made. Better still got 10% of the RRP, if you are looking for something a bit more discrete and less flashy than the skyhawks with lots of great features then this is probably the eco drive AT for you.
I love this watch and it is such a good looking timepiece on my wrist!
The quality is excellent and I enjoy all the features that this watch offers especially the fact that I don’t need to bother with watch batteries any more.
A beautifully crafted watch which is not too big on the wrist like some other sports watches. If you wear a shirt with cuffs on you will know what I mean. No batteries required and keeps accurate time with radio transmissions. All in all a bargain.
Had a bit of money for Christmas, and had had an eye on an Eco Drive watch for a while – put those two things together and the outcome was inevitable! I did a bit of research and decided on this one – glad I did, it does everything I expected and looks good too. The battery technology is obviously impressive, but my favourite feature is the radio time update – geeky, I know, but I love knowing the watch is absolutely accurate at any time.
This is my first chronograph, and if I had one grumble it’s that the dials are quite small and tricky to read, but that’s a minor issue – they do the job. Overall, very pleased!
This watch just oozez of Class. Simple, neat, and very noticeable. Every time i wear this watch pple notice it immediately and conversations are cut short just to discuss the watch. People love it and I love it as well.
The technology behind it is also amazing, few hours in any form of light and my battery is charged whether Sun or indoor Light.
I love the citizen Eco Drive and They can rest assured I will have two or three more of these by the end of the year.
I bought this watch in January 2013. I have been using it for 3 months.
It is a great looking watch, with the following key features:
– 5 timezones with perpetual calendar; note that if your local timezone is not in the predefined list, you can select a custom one (marked as ‘A-TM’) and configure it to your country’s timezone,
– perpetual calendar, which means that the watch knows about the daylight savings and readjust itself accordingly,
– a radio receptor which keeps the time up to date; it corrects itself everyday at 2am (UTC time),
– it is solar powered and has a power level indicator,
– it indicates the date and the day of the week,
– water resistant up to 200 meters,
– chronograph.
I am very satisfied about this watch. It is very classy and elegant item.
I had some criteria when I started looking. Radio controlled, sapphire glass, perpetual calendar, chronograph, reasonable water resistance, no regular battery replacement and cost under 400. That narrowed the field very considerably, and this watch was one of the few that ticked all the boxes. I’ve had it for a week now, and am very pleased with it. It feels like a quality timepiece. It’s quite large but doesn’t look odd on a smaller wrist like mine. The buttons have a good feel to them. The watch is heavy, but in a good way that suggests decent build quality. I’ve had a fiddle with all the radio control, stopwatch and alarm modes, and although I had to read the fine manual, it was all pretty easy to use. The alarm is on the quiet side, but I gather that most if not all watches like this have a similar problem. I think it would wake me up if it was beside me on a bedside table. For anyone outside the marked time zones there’s “alternate time”, which is not radio controlled. It comes in this version with the black leather strap, and also a metal bracelet. I went for the leather strap, which was 80 cheaper. The leather is quite thick and looks well made. It very soon bent in the right places to fit round my wrist and is very comfortable. I did a lot of research and failed to find anything that came close to this watch, even when looking at ones much more expensive.
I purchased this watch from Cirelli Jewelers via Amazon after attempting to purchase from another site that only mentioned they were out of stock after placing my order. For some reason this watch is currently hard to find.
When it arrived, I was expecting it to have a dead battery from sitting in a warehouse somewhere, but was pleasantly surprised when it was set to the correct time and had about half battery. I really like its attractive, yet simple appearance. Although it is on the larger side for watches, it fit my average sized wrist well. The dials are relatively easy to read. It takes a bit of getting used to changing between the different functions, but after a couple days of carrying around the manual I was able to learn. Changing functions isn’t a quick on-the spot thing, it can take a couple of seconds for the hands to sweep around to indicate settings. Unless you are going to be frequently using the chronograph and need to be able to quickly switch back and forth this isn’t an issue.
The perpetual calendar is a really nice feature, with my old watch I could never trust the date around the end/beginning of a month because I would forget to roll over the day. It would have been nice to have a month of year indicator, just for completeness. I think this would have been more useful than the 24 hour clock dial. The chronograph dial is the smallest dial on the watch, and it is a little cramped because it is also used to indicate the day of week and batter level. This makes the increments difficult to read, so it can be hard when timing to precisely read the dial.
The solar charging feature works quite well, it took a couple of days before my battery level went from the 1/2 that it arrived with to full. The battery level has been full ever since with normal daily use.
The main feature that drew me to this specific watch was the radio control feature. Every night the watch attempts to synchronize with a radio signal broadcasted from the atomic clock in Fort Collins Colorado. This ensures that the watch doesn’t drift from the national time standard like even the most accurate watches will over time. An added bonus is that the watch will automatically adjust for daylight savings time – another annoyance I hate dealing with twice a year. Although I haven’t yet experienced a daylight savings transition with this watch, the rest of the radio functionality works great. I am much more aware of time drift in clocks around me. Whenever I check the clock on my GPS unit or computer, it is precisely synced with this watch since these synchronize with satellites and network time servers respectively. However, I also notice many wall clocks, microwaves, alarm clocks etc that do not synchronize can be off by minutes.
I did have to change my habits slightly for this watch. I used to wear my old watch to bed, but I found with this new watch it would often fail to synchronize when worn at night. I now place the watch on an end table in my living room before bed and put it back on in the morning. This may not be necessary if you live closer to Colorado (I am in Wisconsin).
I only wish it could detect my location and forego the timezone setting too.
For accurate, maintenance free, portable time keeping this is a great watch. The only improvement I would want would be to use GPS signals instead of WWVB for time synching and automatic timezone detection but the technology isn’t quite there yet.
First off, I researched watches for about 2 weeks before deciding on this Citizen Perpetual Chrono AT. In the beginning, I was set on getting an automatic because of the craftsmanship and the “status” they have in the community but the Hamiltons I was looking at seemed so boring, it just didn’t feel like it was worth the money. My dad is pretty big on watches, has a Cartier, a Rolex, and a Seiko Diver…after showing him the Hamilton, he looked disgusted and said to look at some Seiko timepieces. Seiko is probably the most respected Japanese watch maker and make some really high end pieces so I was considering the Premier Perpetual Calender which also looks sick but I didn’t know if Seiko was the brand for me then I started lookin at Citizens and found this watch! It immediately caught my attention from just the pictures on Amazon and it looked like just what I wanted. When I got it in the mail, it exceeded my expectations. First thing I did was take it to an Authentic Citizen Dealer and make sure it wasn’t it a fake. Responses from several dealers said it was undoubtedly a real Citizen. The thing you notice the most at first is the “bling” the watch gives with its dials. It gives off a shimmer that’s straight up BOSS. The second-hand looks like a frickin sword from Game of Thrones or something. It’s nasty. 42mm looks perfect on my skinny wrist too. If you’re looking for your first watch, you will not be dissapointed when you get this in the mail.
This watch arrived almost fully charged and only took a few seconds to set time zone and DST. Radio receiver works great, reporting high signal when I check the next day.
Warning however, if you have a big wrist, be prepared to buy a third party watch band, because CITIZEN ONLY MAKES ON SIZE – THE ONE IT COMES WITH, AND IT’S STANDARD LENGTH. They don’t have Long or X-Long for this watch. Not a big deal, but be prepared…
I bought the Citizen AT-4000 fron the British Watch Company via Amazon.com.uk
Very happy with the prompt and efficient cervice. Received the watch in Australia with-in 4 business days.
I collect watches, and this watch has a premium feel and functionality.
Only thing I would add is that as it has Atomic time keeping for LON, NYC, CHI, DEN and LAX, but not SYD (Sydney, Australia), the A-TM (Alternate Time) can be set as my local time, however the A-TM feature does not allow Atomic time keeping.
Alternatively, as I have done, one can pick a destination which one does not visit and manualy set it as local time, in my case I used (DEN).
All in all a complete watch with a premium feel and look!
With all the functions built in to this piece, I have very few complaints about it. It is not too difficult learn the operations of the watch. There is a slight learning curve but it’s really not that bad, I think it makes operating the watch that much more fun.
Nothing is perfect so I really had to dig deep to find these complaints, the only things I can think of are as follows:
Switching functions does take a while. This flaw is inherent to multiple time zone functions, since the hands have to sweep over to the new zone. If you’re switching to somewhere with a 7 hour time difference, well, it’s to be expected so I wouldn’t fault the watch for that.
This issue also comes in with setting the alarm, if the current alarm setting is 6 hours back you’ll have to wait for the hands to sweep all the way over to that time so setting an alarm is not always quick. I think if they would have built the alarm setting function onto the 24 hour sub-dial instead it would have eliminated that issue. Also, the alarm volume is what you’d expect from any analog watch, I personally don’t rely on watch alarms to wake me up in the morning.
And lastly, one thing I could ask for is a unidirectional bezel, though I understand that is usually reserved for divers. I find it more practical than a tachymeter since tachymeters have such a narrow scope of application (i.e. if my speedometer was broken in my car and I need to know my speed on the highway, or if I want to know how many sandwiches I can make in an hour). In my opinion using a unidirectional bezel as a timer is much more practical. Citizen could’ve just added a unidirectional bezel to the outside of the tachymeter. Then it would be the ultimate watch. You can always use the chronograph as a timer but I just think turning a bezel is faster and more functional because I can mark exactly what time I started a task instead of having to remember when I started it.
Overall, this watch has so many functions that it makes up for it’s very few flaws. This watch looks much nicer in person. I also had a little piece of shiny material on one of the subdials on my particular watch, it’s so tiny and doesn’t float around so I’m not worried about it affecting function. I decided not to return it because that little cosmetic flaw kind of makes my particular watch unique if I ever run accross the same watch on somebody else.
Too many positives to list. If you like a watch packed with features, this is the watch for you. Lume is great, still glows when I wake up in the morning. Also, there are plenty of leather or rubber straps available for the 24mm lug size so if you don’t like the straps on this model don’t let that stop you. The current one is skinny for my taste so I ordered wider straps.
This watch is very classy and a great 30th present. Citizen are a great manufacturer, would recommend any of their watches, this is the 2nd purchase of theirs. Great service too.
