This game is never ending. Will keep you busy for months, harder than the originals but we like a challenge. I play it with my boyfriend when I find it difficult I pass the controller to him
Absolute quality game, lot harder than the previous crash bandicoots so younger kids would struggle but the gameplay is absolutely brilliant, really enjoyed this game, hopefully there will be a number 5
As a big Crash Bandicoot fan since the early days of PlayStation I was thrilled to see after the remasters of 1-3, that a fresh new entry was upon us with popping visuals and a return to its original platforming formula, complete with zany characters and PG humour. The game now also offers a free PS5 upgrade on purchase of the PS4 version which amps everything up to 4K alongside quicker loading times (which make a world of difference since they were rather slow on the PS4 version).
The game does a superb job of delivering nostalgia for returning fans as a lot of the level design takes cues from the previous entries. They also did not shy away from the difficulty either, as some levels can be very punishing if your timing is off! There’s a ‘beginners trap’ in almost every level which forces a trial and error style of approach. In light of this, the devs have added a feature that removes lives and simply allows you to play each level dying as many times as necessary to finish without starting from scratch, and instead just respawning at the last check point. You can however turn this feature off, at your own risk, for an extra challenge.
As a whole, I did enjoy the game early on but as the levels began to get longer and trickier – especially if you’re a completionist like myself and like to smash every box for those Gems – it began to stagger my play through as I would get fed up of the tireless juggling of new mechanics that are brought in to the game via the Power Masks, and the box locations can be very frustrating, especially in the Bonus stages. It can also feel at times as if the game is trying too hard to be a Crash game (if that makes sense!), almost like it’s trying to outshine its predecessors in a slightly arrogant way. The character dialogue is a bit cringy in places in my opinion and by the time I’d reached the last dimension, I was kind of relieved that it had finished.
One redeeming factor for the game is the Flashback Tapes, which are pretty much short-lived box smashing puzzles that require surgical precision platforming, along with some old school Crash music from precious games in the background and Cortex throwing a few quips along the way. It’s a nice refreshing change from the standard part of the game, however you do have to go through the pain of reaching a checkpoint in each level without dying AT ALL to obtain them, some of which are gruelling without repeat play throughs.
I’d recommend this game for anyone looking for a challenging platformer that feels fresh and original at times, but does require some patience if you want to squeeze the very best out of the game. For me, I wouldn’t class it as a true Crash game – Warped is my personal favourite – but certainly worth a go.
If you’re a fan of the franchise then this game is a must play. It is enjoyable to play but word of warning you do need a lot of patience with this. Some levels can be quite tricky.
I have always loved crash bandicoot since a very young age. This was next on my list for when i got my PS5.
omg it is super hard!!!! i honestly dont think i will ever manage to complete the game but i am going to have fun trying too as i cant stop playing it. Its so addictive you just cant stop playing but there has been a few times ive wanted to throw my controller across the room its been that frustrating! good luck guys!
I’ve played all the Crash Bandicoot games since the original on the first PlayStation, and this is definitely a good one. I personally don’t think it’s as good as Crash 3 or the first one but it’s not far off and you can lose hours without noticing and it makes me smile, which is what it’s all about. Would recommend for sure.
The developers have done a brilliant job bringing this series back but I find that they have been too clever in their approach and made this game stupidly hard.
I have completed the game but there were frequent times where I could not enjoy it due to the sheer difficulty they have put into the game. If you remember the bonus rounds in crash 1-3, these are more like death rounds for the fourth game . There was only one or two bonus rounds i was able to complete due to the difficulty. I’m not a bad a gamer but the level designs are definitely aimed for professional gamers. Considering this game is aimed for kids and older generations who love franchise, I dont think they will enjoy this addition as much as the originals.
The game is still worth purchasing but I really hope the developers ease on the difficulty for future entries or they will lose a lot of the fan base.
Bought this as xmas present for my grandson, it was a package with a cloth logo carry bag which he loved.
and to my knowledge no issues with the game to date. would recomend
Brilliant but incredibly hard. I love the direction the story has taken. There are a fair amount of Pixar-esque goofy cut scenes which I really enjoyed. There’s plenty of additional objectives if you’re happy to replay the same levels. I have to say the game is infuriatingly hard and while some of the more complex puzzles were very satisfying, others were frustrating to the point of no longer being fun. I don’t plan on torturing myself by trying to collect all the gems – I got to the end and that was enough.
They really nailed this. It is incredible. Has a little bit of everything from all previous Crash games.
I limited my expectations going into this game because let’s be honest it has a lot to live up to. But I can honestly say that it exceeded my expectations in every way. It is also the most difficult Crash Bandicoot game EVER, which I love. I’ll definitely spend a lot more time enjoying this over Christmas.
The game looks fantastic, and the gameplay feels very much like a highly polished version of the classic trilogy, making jumps has never been so precise, and boy will you need that precision. This game is hard.
If your a completionist, this game will make you cry, as every level has pretty deviously hidden crates to break that at times feel unfair, whilst there are many fiendishly difficult platforming sections.
On the base ps4, the performance of the game does chug a little but rarely enough to be more than an annoyance. But overall this is an extremely solid crash bandicoot game, I would defiantly recommend to fans of the series, or anyone looking for a platform game that will challenge and frustrate.
Difficult, frustrating and just dosent have the same feel as the classic ones. Still I had a good time playing and the game looks stunning but don’t think I’ll bother attempting to compete it 100%.
Its crash and hes back, I love crash bandicoot games and have played them from when they were on ps1, this game is exciting and there are alot of new obstacles but they have also made it alot harder to complete a level without dying, theres an option to play classic or modern which is unlimited lives, I would highly recommend the unlimited lives as there is a tally showing how many lives you’ve used and, just in the first level I used about 20 lives, theres alot of obstacles to jump over and cliff edges to fall down and if you’re like me and play fast it is inevitable you will fall down, I do love the game though, the sounds are funny and at the beginning of each level there are interactive items you can mess around with just for fun.
This game is fantastic.
If.you love crash then get this as does not disappoint in anyway.
I would say that even though it’s a platform game I would say that children will struggle with this if not experienced gamers.
It’s one of the hardest platform game I’ve played to do everything on the game.
I’ve platinumed all crashes but with this all I can say is WOW I can not get platinum for time trials and you need to get platinum for a trophy on the playstation so why they thought it was a good idea to do this on not gold I’ll never know.
But cant knock how well they have done with this game.
Would recommend to anyone.
What a great game. Loads of adult jokes and replayability.
Recommended to most classic crash fans.
There are classic levels, in jokes and new mechanics to master.
I do see this as a bit of a one off though, and it is fun, but the nsane trilogy still holds more water for me.
There is a more relaxed playstyle called modern, which bins off the life system allowing you to get further through the game, never getting set too far back by dying. You still need to beat levels in less than 3 lives for gems though, and you obviously only get one life for time trials so that challenge aspect is more slow to ramp up.
You do get through the game quicker as a result, which, could be viewed as a good or a bad thing. Not a fan myself, as the satisfaction of beating a level with lives felt amazing
Edit 21/2/21
I finally got 106% completion and the Platinum Trophy.
It took me 203 hours!!!
This is, by far, the most difficult Crash game ever but, for me, the most enjoyable.
The developers have done a fantastic job and created an amazingly detailed game that feels familiar and new at the same time.
I’d still rate this 5*.
I’m so glad I bought this.

I played the Crash 1, 2 and 3 remakes a few years ago and easily got the platinum trophies.
However, Crash 4 offers a whole new level of difficulty.
I was wondering how they could justify the high price (I paid 55 for my copy) but now I understand.
For me, getting 106% along with the platinum trophy will require many, many hours of hard work but the game rewards you with stunning graphics, extremely rich, dense levels and entirely new forms of gameplay, which in my opinion more than justifies the high price tag.
Great game! This new crash game has the same vibes as the previous incarnations but with several fresh new twists. I really like the option, once unlocked, to play the maps from the end to start. The customisation of the characters is really cool. Also, it’s nice to have the option to play as new characters, all of whom have special skills and unique game play.
This game was really well designed. Highly recommend this game to anyone – young and old!
Pre-order arrived on time with tote bag. Game is incredible. It combines enough original content to be nostalgic whist also having some really cool new features to make it modern enough! The graphics make the different dimensions looks incredibly beautiful, colourful and really sets the mood. The story and gameplay is true to the original and the levels increasing difficulty, collectible hints and time trials make for an enjoyable yet challenging experience for all. Absolutely worth the almost 60 for a pre-order. One not to miss!
Absolutely incredible game which sticks with the old school Crash style but with some new twists. Looks and plays really well, is very difficult in parts but that’s what Crash is all about. If you enjoyed the original Crash games, you’ll love this.
Brought as a present and they were very happy with i

Great addition to the Crash gaming collection. Fun and keeps the original feel.

Great classic game made for current times.overall 8.3/10
Game great, but bought it as a bundle with a promotional bag that never turned up!

Got this for my boyfriend, watching him struggle all day is so fun. He’s very bad at the game, seems more of a challenge than the old ones.
