After living with the unit for a while longer, I feel that I’ve been a little harsh giving this unit 3 stars… it was always 3.5 stars in reality, but Amazon don’t allow you to give half marks. I’ve now bumped the score up to 4 stars (maybe 4.5 with a following wind). Wireless Carplay dropping out does seem to be a commonly reported issues across all models, so it doesn’t seem fair to mark this unit down as a result… I’ve recently found the dropouts are less frequent when the phone isn’t in my pocket, but physically closer to the stereo… fortunately in my car there is a little shelf directly above the stereo that I can leave it on. Note also that I wouldn’t expect the manufacturer to provide connecting leads for all different car makes/models, so the comment about spending 50 on connecting leads was for awareness and would be applicable to other makes/models of stereo too and didn’t result in a mark down of the score.

If they could fix the other issues this would be a 5 star unit. For me, the lack of a proper implementation of RDS on FM is the biggest remaining issue, but this may not be a big issue for everyone. I listen to some FM-only stations and my car doesn’t have a DAB aerial, so I don’t see that DAB would be the answer to this one.

In summary: I definitely recommend this unit, as for the money nothing else comes close if you want Wireless Carplay.

Original Review:
After a great deal of research, I decided that out of all the features a new stereo could offer that wireless Carplay was the most important. I’ve had a couple of Android based stereos in the past in other cars, so I’m not totally inexperienced here.

I really wanted to love this stereo as it does a great deal right and the price @135 (at the time I purchased) is good, but there are a few niggles that mean I can’t give it more than 3 stars right now.
I had to purchase 3 additional leads from InCarTec for approx 50 to get it to work with my car. Even then had to modify one of the leads and manually connect and solder wires together.

Good points:
– Wireless Carplay that mostly works very well.
– Reasonably good audio, but not perfect. Suspect the speakers in my car are holding it back, so difficult to judge.
– Physical buttons for home and volume control. Physical volume control great if you need to quickly silence something without looking so I can concentrate on what’s going on on the road.
– Internal microphone seems pretty good so haven’t bothered with using the supplied external mic.
– Steering wheel controls mostly fine. Track change doesn’t seem to work in Carplay dual-screen (satnav/audio) mode, but not sure if that’s a fault of this device or Carplay.
– Screen ok, not the best, but visible in all conditions and importantly still visible when wearing polarised sunglasses.

Bad points:
– Randomly switches out of Carplay mode maybe every 30-60 mins on average. Can be switched back quickly by hitting the Carplay icon, but rather irritating if you’re using the satnav at the time.
– DSP sound effects is very sensitive and can be fiddly to adjust a custom profile. I largely gave up and used a built in profile.
– Very basic implementation of RDS on FM radio – the station name appears in very small writing underneath the frequency and is hardly visible. No other RDS features like show name and track name are there.
– Rear USB port doesn’t work at all. Front USB port works fine for playing MP3, but really don’t want a USB sticking out the front of my dash.
– Shiny plastic looks a little cheap if I’m honest and the silver coloured volume control looks out of place, a black colour would have looked much better.

A good effort and considerably cheaper than the Ousmin branded version (I’m convinced that the units are actually identical). Very good effort, but could have been better.
