Ecoair DD1 Classic MK5 Desiccant Dehumidifier
The Ecoair DD1 started their enhancements in dehumidifiers, setting the benchmark for home desiccant dehumidifiers for years. Ecoair, relentless in their search for a formula to reduce wastage and save energy, brings you E7 Technology and 3-D Louvre to your DD122 MK5.
3D–Louvre
Channels airflow over a wide area or targeted spot to optimise efficiency when the need arises. Use the wide channel to improve even distribution and the spot channel to pinpoint problem areas like a mould growth on the wall.
ECO E7 Technology
Multiple algorithms operating in parallel to manage power, temperature and humidity to optimise performance and save energy usage.
Auto Toggle Power Saver
The Eco E7 Technology has the power to do many things with your DD1 MK5. It senses the ambient temperature and humidity level and automatically toggles between the full power, economy power and standby modes. This function can reduce your energy consumption. DD1 MK5 has a built-in auto sensor that continually detects your air humidity. It knows when to toggle the dehumidification requirements. This ensures that the humidity level is under control and that you only use your electricity when absolutely necessary according to the mode you have selected.
Overdry Protection
Using any dehumidifier at High Modes or Laundry Mode over long durations can cause unnecessarily over-dry ambient air. The good news is that the DD1 MK5 knows when to toggle the dehumidification process when the air gets too dry.

Fantastic product very reliable the only reason I replaced the older one I had (it was 8 years old) was because it had started to take longer to dry our laundry. This is the main reason we purchased this and ot performs brilliantly in our laundry room at drying clothes.
This Eco-air works to good affect. Certainly draws the dampness into the tank. And it actually increases the air temperature by a few degrees despite the cold house it occupies. I would say it is fairly quiet in operation and not too intrusive.

A really excellent product. Even on the eco setting, it is really effective. I needed to remove some residual damp following some damp prodding works and it has done the trick. Highly recommended.
Bought this (together with a digital hygrometer) for a ca. 4m x 4m cold conservatory whose wooden laminate floor panels warp every winter. Used it on the eco & 8 hour timer settings every night, and also for a couple of hours at a time during the day if the humidity approached 58-60% as read by the hygrometer. After a fortnight the warping is greatly reduced & is now hardly noticeable. Only had it for the fortnight so can’t offer an opinion as to it’s robustness, but very happy with it’s performance so far.
This works well in a low temp — 5-10 celcius — location, far better than a more powerful compressor dehumidifier in my experience, and the exhaust air is warm which also helps. Downside is it uses power.
I’m impressed by how much moisture this unit takes out of the air in such a short time. Purchased to leave in my hallway which is the central point of my home. It’s a little bit noisy – you would certainly notice it was on if you were in the same room as it was situated. I’m sure it is much more efficient than the old condenser unit I have which has twice the footprint – but is commensurately much quieter. I would thoroughly recommend this one – if it lasts the 2 years it is warrantied for I will be well pleased.
Did a lot of research before making the purchase and this EcoAir Desiccant model meets our needs perfectly. It is compact and light in weight, so is very manoeuvrable, making it ideal for carrying up and down stairs.
We purchased the dehumidifier primarily to dry our laundry in the winter and it does this very efficiently.
Too early to comment on energy efficiency, but has not made meaningful changes to our smart meter readings in the first week.
Have given noise level 4 stars as very acceptable to us and, as my wife says, it does its job!
Really good, helped with condensation and also used for drying clothes. Have it away but had to buy another one later as it was the best I had.
Used for a very damp room and it removed an incredible amount of moisture in only a few days, leaving the room damp free. Much better than expected.
I’ve had condensation issues in my Conservatory for a while. I’ve been running the EcoAir Desiccant Dehumidifier for two weeks now and it has worked perfectly keeping the conservatory VERY dry and comfortable, not even a drop of water on the glass in the mornings !!
You can hear a low noise, but it’s not disturbing at all.
The laundry mode works very well for drying clothes.
I am now considering buying another unit for the hallway.
It is great. Works like a dream. Had loads of condensation now have none. Dries clothes on airer fast too. Nothing bad to say it is amazing
I purchased this brand about 6 years ago. They have removed the 2-hour timer Function from this version but it does appear that it can be turned on and off by a timer switch which the old one couldn’t does it had to go through a cooling down cycle.

Bought one in 2011 to put in our conservatory to prevent condensation on the windows during winter months. Now, 10 years later, works just as good as the day we first used it. Not had a steamy window since. Also use it to dry washing. It gives off a little heat which is a bonus on colder days. Bought 2 more in 2012 to give to son and daughter, and they also are still working well. I’m about to buy another to put in the garage and when I realised how long we’d had one I thought it was about time I gave a review. Remains one of the best things I’ve ever bought on Amazon.

It’s a little noisy, the sound of air blowing but not too bad. It’s a condenser so works even in very cold temperatures. Easy to empty but can splash a little bit if the tank is full. Has a carrying handle and easy to carry, not too heavy. Works very efficiently, really helps get rid of humidity especially if drying clothes indoors. I have two of these for different spaces and would definitely recommend. Can’t really comment on energy efficiency but think it’s ok.
This is worth the price, this is a powerful device that removes humidity in no time. The drawer gets full quickly. My house is very humid.
It dries your clothes rapidly also.
The only down point is that its blowing hot air, for winter it’s nice but during summer I wont be able to use it.
See above
Do not know how it would function if dampness was a severe problem.

We were having terrible problems with condensation on our windows especially in bedroom ( north facing window)& this item has drastically reduced this
I’ve had this machine for 5years. It’s wonderful, I’ve lent it to so many friends over the years. It’s a hi
Dehumidifier does what it’s supposed to do. Can’t really fault it. Easy to manoeuvre and noise level is good especially on low power. I have not checked the energy efficiency but according to others who checked, it is good.
A family member moved into an older, damp property, so this was sent to help the situation. It has sucked litres of water out of the walls upstairs and downstairs, making the whole house much more comfortable. It no longer smells damp either.
belting piece of kit amount of water it takes out of the air is great also works well on laundry setting found it dries better in a smaller room on laundry setting but works well in a large area just takes a little longer to dry also it warms the room while drying .
It does use a fair amount of power but I did buy it to dry out a large 5x6m garage, after running on auto for about 10 days the room is totally dry. Excellent for the price
The item let the smoke out after 4 years and 5 months of home use
This is my fourth dehumidifier and by far the best! It’s lightweight, relatively quiet and great at extracting water from the air in my windowless bathroom which doubles as a laundry drying area. The only thing that remains to be demonstrated is its longevity – previous ones have stopped extracting properly after a couple of years.
I am very happy with this quiet, efficient dehumidifier. It is light weight, easy to operate, easy to empty and keep the filter clean. The water tray has a sensible plastic cover to prevent spills as you pull it out to empty. I have had several dehumidifiers over the years, this one actually is quiet enough to leave on overnight. I use it to dry washing as well as general use in damper rooms in our flat. It’s cheap to use and made no noticeable change to our electric bill.
I bought this for the cabin as I was working from there through the winter. Due to my own poor DIY work I had some damp on the roof which this helped dry up well. As this is a dessicant dehumidifier it will work at low temperatures as well. Thinking of getting one for the caravan we own as well. We have an older version for the house and this has helped sort out then damp we used to have and also helps get the washing dried a lot quicker as well. Can’t fault it at all
The dehumidifier works as expected except for the odour it produces while it is on. Over 3 months of usage and the smell won’t go. The warm air is blows increases the temperature in the room by 2c. I hope it lasts more than a year or 2 for its price.
Plugged it in and off it went. It doesn’t have a visible humidity meter so I bought a small one. Really useful. Machine has an auto where it turns itself on and off when it hits the correct humidity, but being able to see the numbers give a lot of control. Useful drying clothes function as have to dry inside. They dry much quicker and no condensation on the windows. Haven’t scored energy efficient as haven’t seen electric bill yet.
It is quite noisy, can talk above it but would probably take important or zoom calls in another room
I purchased this model over 10 years ago for my static caravan, still using it today. When my mum needed a dehumidifier for her walk-in loft space I recommended this one and purchased it for her.
The fact that it is a desiccant it can raise the room temperature up between 5-10 degrees, just brilliant.
Having many years experience of using dehumidifiers it’s certainly the best for the money. I would highly recommend it.
Takes a lot of moisture out of the air, also adds a bit of heat to the room which is what I want. The water tank is at the base and drips a bit on removal, but I guess that can’t be helped. The tank seems a bit flimsy so needs careful handling: don’t drop it or the plastic will break and that’s the end of the machine. I usually need to empty the tank twice a day.
After reading mixed reviews on many different dehumidifier we decided to go for the Ecoair DD1 classic. I have not been dissapointed with our choice. The instructions were easy to follow and we had it up and running in no time. We needed a dehumidifier for our loft space after having a new roof fitted and it has dried it out with ease. For a small machine it has handled our loft size with no problems (3 bed semi). Had doubts when ordering but glad we made the choice we did. The noise level is not that bad we can hear a hum from the landing which isn’t annoying in anyway however if you had it in the same room it would sound similar to having a fan on which to me is bearable.
We bought this dehumidifier for our bathroom, which is a 1950s extension that has no damp course.
The dehumidifier is amazing!
It’s compact and quietly (not silently, but at a very acceptable noise level) whirs away, doing a fantastic job.
You can even feel that the air in the room is drier!
It turns itself off either when the atmosphere meets the dryness setting or when the tank is full.
We leave it set to dryness level 2 all of the time and it happily turns itself on and off.
We had one of these before and it did break eventually after years (2 or 3) of constant use, but I really wouldn’t let this put you off. For the joy of a dry home, it’s worth every penny for that duration.
In between, we tried a different make (also now broken) and have bought a new one of these because the other one wasn’t as good.

This is an amazing machine, very quiet with a modern design. I had one which I used for 7 years. It finally gave up on me and I bought another without hesitation.
I had it to help solve a problem of mould in the kitchen and window condensation. I was really surprised that it improved in a short period of time, leaving the door and window dry and free of condensation. Superb for drying clothes as well. If I have a full wash put out to dry on a clothes drying rack at night, they are ready for ironing or straight to the wardrobe in the morning.
I noticed that this product also helps maintain room temperature balance. All round – great to have. Great customer service as well.
Bought this unit for a garage which is partially subterranean and suffers with condensation. We had previously used a compressor based unit, but it struggled to work in low temperatures. This desiccant based unit works well in low temperatures (1-5C), but has a fundamental flaw, in that the continuous drainage hose function just doesn’t work. I’ve tried two different units and not matter how carefully I fit and position the drainage hose the water just collects in the internal tank. Given the high level of humidity in the garage, this means that I’m having to empty the tank 2-3 times a day – simply not practical. So, if you want to use it in the house with the internal tank then go for it – it’ll work well. If you want a “fit and forget” unit that will just tick over in a garage, caravan or boat with continuous drainage then forget it – this isn’t for you.
We are all unfortunately having a very wet winter, and this dehumidifier has been very helpful in drying our washing.
We are having to do washing every day as we have 2 GSD’s and they make a few towels dirty everyday. I previously bought an identical dehumidifier three years ago and it is still working well but with the extra washing being done I felt that a second dehumidifier would be beneficial, and it is.
Bought this item about 6 weeks ago and so far so good.
It works realy well and I have to empty it about 2 daily. You could use the drain tube if the item was kept in one place but I like to move it around the house.
Its not light and its not quiet but its not too heavy to easily move and not too loud on low speed to have in the bedroom and still get a good night’s sleep.
I have no issues with the blue illumination on the side and its not distracting for me.
The additional heat it gives of in use I feel offsets some of the running cost as it takes the chill out of any room.
Would I buy another? Yes.
Does well on the landing of our 1930s semi-detached house between two rooms and the bathroom. We put it on the lowest setting for a few hours each morning and it gets around half full. I have asthma and normally get a bad chest but the air is better with the dehumidifier. I would suggest that once you turn it off you wait a few minutes for it to finish draining – if you take the reservoir out straight away a bit of water can get on the carpet. Easy to carry around with the handle and quite light too.

It is quiet compared to others on the market and does exactly what is says. I have a cold area in my house and it works a treat. I already recommended it to my niece, which she bought and is extremely pleased, too. She has it in a cottage, on constant drain, as because of Covid she has not been able to go very often.
Prior to buying this I tried 2 other makes. The first one (a cheap one at 50) could only extract about 300mls in a 24 hour period, the other one (condensing type) would extract 2500mls in 24 hrs but was far too noisy.
This one extracts around 2500mls / 24hrs and is very quiet – about the same noise of a fan on slow speed.
It’s a nice looking unit and is quite light. Happy to recommend this.
Great little Dehumidifier collects water very well …although not sure how accurate the built-in humidistat is as it seems to read differently to the mobile gauge I have in my garage. Also when you turn the switch there is quite a big difference between on and off. But overall I find it Ideal for my garage, especially as its the desicant type. I recommend taking out the extra breakdown cover as it wasn’t that expensive and considering all humidifiers I researched seemed to be a bit hit and miss for reliability even the more expensive ones it’s probably worth it.
This is the best dehumidifier for collecting water that I have ever tried. The only down sides are that the water container is difficult to handle when full and would be easy to spill when trying to empty it – also to get at this you have to pull it out from the bottom at floor level. The only other drawback that I found, is that it has no wheels, and although it has a handle this means you have to lift it to move it around. EXCELLENT PRODUCT!
The item arrived on Monday. I plugged it in, switched it on, and it made a really irritating buzzing noise. I contacted the company and they agreed to exchange it immediately.
The replacement arrived on Tuesday, and the courier also collected the original item. I decided to leave the new one a couple of hours to settle before switching it on. It works perfectly and is very quiet.
I have no idea how energy efficient it is as I don’t have a smart meter.
Fabulous – just about the best thing I’ve ever bought. I live in an RV so there is a terrible condensation problem in the winter. This has changed my life – it keeps the whole RV warm with no condensation, and bedding, clothes etc no longer feel clammy. I don’t know how we managed without it. I leave it on all the time and it makes no noise, just the merest whisper, so no problem at night.
Our last (identical) dehumidifier lasted 3.5 years of daily use in a laundry room, being used in a damp environment.
We were so pleased with it that when it finally broke it was an easy decision to buy the same model. Fingers crossed the new one will last as long (maybe even longer!)
Very pleased with it, it is reasonably quiet on eco level, not whisper level but unobtrusive enough to be in the room with it, though I don’t think you could have it in a bedroom at night. It has a soft tone so any activity or noise soon drowns it out into the background. Has been collecting a full tank every day in our fairly average kitchen/living room and seems to do the job well. Kicks out warm air as it works so helps to keep room warm in winter, a great buy for an old damp house like ours
Does remove water pretty effectively from the air. You get about half a litre to a litre in the collecting tray in a few hours. I bought a separate hygrometer to monitor how it’s doing, and the humidity go down from the 70s to the 40s percentage levels pretty effectively. You don’t want to take the humidity down too low too fast though – I warped a wooden panel on my bath by initial over enthusiastic use.
There are two fan speeds. The fast speed is quite loud, but the slow speed is OK to use in a bedroom.
We are using this dehumidifier in a spare bedroom where we dry off damp clothes. This device is attractive, compact, effective, easy to use, and quieter than I expected – albeit I’m not sure I’d want even its gentle noise in a room where I was trying to sleep. The water receptacle is easy to remove, easy to empty and easy to replace, and the filter is easy to remove and replace for cleaning.
Really happy with my purchase. Its about knee high. Easy to move around with a handle. Really quiet. Great value IMHO.
Update: Been using this for 14 months now and it still works well. We use it for reducing moisture in the bathroom, kitchen, a problem bedroom, and drying laundry that needs to hang. It gets used every day. So happy with it, I’ve purchased another to have one at each end of the house.
Bought this as a replacement for a larger EcoAir dehumidifier which had died after many years faithful service. We use it to dry laundry and it is very quiet, small enough to stand on the work surface in the utility room but still does a great job of drying the laundry.
We have found EcoAir dehumidifiers to be very effective and a good combination of price and quality. We have purchase 5 over the last decade – for extended family and ourselves – and they have all proved reliable and highly effective for reducing humidity levels without problems.
Simple to move around the house, compact in comparison to other ones I have used and very silent when not at maximum power (like the option to dry clothes indoors).
I only wish it had a panel with the numerical reading of the current sensed relative humidity so I can adjust the auto mode yo a desired value to turn on and to turn off instead of a preset value. But as you can see, for its price, that was not a decisive factor for me to not buy this one.
Developed a leak at 7 months. Numerous emails to EcoAir with no response. Not good customer service with an unreliable product
Update July 2020
Ecoair collected the Dehumidifier and repaired it under their warranty.
Returned within 2 weeks.
Good service
Update Nov 2020
Broken again. Leaking water all over the floor. This is the second fault in 13 months.
Service first time was good but to become faulty again within 4 months. For 170 I expect a better quality product.
Don’t waste your money!
Conservatory in winter is mould bound and I needed a fix that wasn’t going to be too expensive. I did my research and learned about relative humidity ect. It was then the price factor. This came up on deal of the day saving at least 70-100 and had very good reviews. I’ve used it each winter since to regulate the moisture/temp.
Just remember to empty the tank if you don’t use the hose.
It is noisey but not distracting. i leave it on at night in winter for a few hours every few days. Again cost of running it vs long term solution cost is worth it in my opinion.
I live in a small flat in London, no outside space, so it’s usually an absolute pain to dry clothes completely.
We bought this dehumidifier for the explicit purpose of being able to dry clothes using its warm heater setting and can honestly say that it has been a game-changer. Set it running overnight and it’ll do the job. Couldn’t recommend it more highly for that purpose.
I see that others have complained about the longevity of it – I’ve had it for around 8 months and haven’t had any issue yet, touch wood. We only run it, at most, twice a week though so are not heavy users.
If you’re in a similar situation with a small flat/apartment then it’s highly recommended, great value for money.
We have had this now for about 6 months and is used on a daily basis. Several adjustable settings allow a great many combinations for flexibility. Looks good and very quite on the lowest settings if you wish to use this at night in your bedroom we don’t, but it is possible. This product is also fitted with an ‘ioniser’ and silver filter so filtering all the circulated air. I would certainly purchase this again if needed.
very neat unit and easy to control . I use it in a flat for reducing water content and maintaining a comfortable atmosphere, disappointed that the full lamp has already ceased to function. Day later…. Full lamp functioning again after checking water container as per instructions. Neighbour impressed with design!!!! me too. room humidity was a little over 60RH now down to 47RH which is defined as being a comfortable RH especially where I live ….near the sea and vey salt laden atmosphere.
This was the 2nd one of these I bought the first one leaked after 3 years daily usage during winter months. These machines are amazing and pick up ltrs and ltrs of water in our apartment everyday, our windows are free from condensation even when our heating is on. The product really stands out when you have wet clothes inside overnight there is no smell of damp or no sign of mould anywhere. If you live in an apartment or flat this machine is a must and it’s very cheap to run too.
I’ve only had it for a week, and this dehumidifier has already made an incredible difference to the air quality in my home and removes excess moisture excellently. The best feature for me is the low noise level – on its quietest setting it is quieter than my fridge. The timer works well, and the higher, noisier settings, bring down humidity quite quickly. I wish the cord was longer and that the collected water could be poured out without needing to remove the lid, but these are minor inconveniences. It’s hard to assess energy efficiency because on eco mode, I’ve read that it switches off once the room hits normal humidity levels, but the fan keeps running, so you have no way of knowing what the machine is doing. There is a competitor model which switches on and off periodically in eco mode and this must surely be more energy efficient than leaving the fan running. But for me, noise level was more important, and so I’m very happy with my choice.
This unit really does the job. Bought it to dehumidify a medium size bedroom as we have a damp problem with poor ventilation. I run it for 2 hours when I wake up with door closed and the humidity drops from ~75% to ~47-50% in about 45 minutes to keep damp at bay. The water holder is easy to empty and a red light indicates when it is full. The unit is light enough to move around the house too with a carry handle. It can be used to dry clothes also if the weather is rubbish and is very effective. I have not noticed any rise in energy bills and using the ECO setting. Highly recommend.
I’ve had this for a while now, and I think it is excellent. As with all dehumidifiers the room needs to be warm enough for it to work properly. The last setting is a heated setting, but I don’t think that is enough to get it to work properly. However if you are say drying clothing in a room with the heating on, it will work very well, and the water tank will fill up quickly.
Only had it a few days but so far so good. I’ve had double glazing installed over the last year so now I don’t have draughts and as I don’t have a kitchen extractor fan and my downstairs is open plan I have been having trouble with kitchen smells which really lingered. Now using the ecoair when I cook and for a couple of hours at night has solved the problem. Air is circulating again. I really like the ioniser too. So when I come downstairs in the morning I am greeted by fresh air!
I have a terrible problem with damp in an old listed building of which I have a flat, ever year I try different things to get rid of the black mould….and fail. I have only had this dehumidifier for a week & it is fantastic. The walls, window & window sill are dry, I even managed to paint them after a few days. I put it on for 2 hours every morning now & it collects so much water….I’ve even stopped wheezing at night. WORTH EVERY PENNY.
I have had this dehumidifier for 5 yrs in October and it has performed brilliantly. It has been used in our damp cellar, for drying clothes , maintaining room humidity, and just recently for combating a leaking roof in our attic which can not be fixed for 3 weeks or so due to rain. 5yrs and still touch wood , through continuous use has NEVER failed me
Going to buy another one soon so i always have one in reserve
Not sure on elec consumption as we have a lot of electrical appliances always on the go, but not noticed much difference as late when ive had it on the go almost permanently
I give it 5 star for reliability
I can safely say this is one of the best purchases I have ever made. With living in a house that was built in 1884 it can suffer from damp issues now and then. I have had in the passed a dehumidifier that was the compressor type. It was noisy and also very expensive to run. This by comparison is reasonably quite especially on the lower setting all dehumidifiers are by there nature noisy by the way they work but with this one I found it to be so efficient I did not need to have it on all the time. It is not the cheapest on the market but sometimes you get what you paid for and this is true in this case.

This is a fantastic unit, bought as a replacement for an older version I bought years ago for a “dripping” wet concrete double garage I use as a woodworking workshop. The old one gave several years of faultless 24×7 service in very dusty freezing conditions (In case you are wondering between condenser and desiccant types, when my old one finally died I rushed into buying a cheaper condenser type replacement which was useless outside of a heated home as it froze solid whenever temperatures fell below +/-10 degrees). This new model is easy to use, has been extracting an industrial “horse sized” bucket of water a day, worked in continuous sub zero temperatures for days this winter (2019) and took the garage from >80% humidity to 65% in a few days. Highly efficient, great product.
I have had this dehumidifier since 2015 and it still works well. I find it relatively silent, it’s lightweight and has a great compact size. It’s great for drying clothes.
There’s a few things to point out however:
– Although it does say so in the manual, it’s not my experience that the dehumidifier retracts humidity from other rooms than the one it is positioned in – there’s still a good amount of window condensation everywhere else in the flat.
– The small parts in the water tank and lid are not easy to clean and they tend to get moldy spots after some time, so it’s advised to let them dry out every now and again.
– The front side that is more exposed to daylight has turned noticeably yellow over the years, which is just not very pleasing to look at.
Overall I still think it’s a good appliance and has reliably done it’s job since 2015.
We bought this model after two years of using the non-classic model every single day in an enclosed space to dry our laundry with. I don’t think it’s really designed to be used like that, but it worked really well and worked out a lot cheaper than using a tumble dryer, though after 2 years of daily use it developed a small fault. It was probably repairable, but we figured we’ll just buy a new one since the other one’s survived such heavy use and it turns out this classic model is even more suitable for drying clothes since it has a timer and economy modes. The instructions still doesn’t give me the impression that it’s made for drying clothes daily, or being put into an airing cupboard, but judging from how well the old one did just that we are just going to do the same thing again and we have been doing so for several weeks.
I have now had this for 4 years and it has finally began to not work as well. Very impressed as it has been running nearly the whole time, often at full high speed as I use it to dry clothes. It works very well (makes the room it’s in very warm though, a good thing for me!) And collects a lot of water. It’s never had a problem as long as I clean the fluff collector. No spillage unless I move it when it’s full or don’t push the container in the whole way. I would buy this again even if it broke today, a small price for a busy mum who needs to process a lot of washing without a dryer!
If I use it to dehumidify a room you can see a notable difference just in a few hours, just don’t expect it to do your whole house!
This has been in daily use in my (once very damp) garage since I bought it 3 months ago, and it has been brilliant! It fills its (relatively small) water collection reservoir in 6-8 hours when it is damp/humid in there. All the damp problems have gone away now. This unit is MUCH quieter than the compressor based dehumidifier I have and much more effective too. I can confirm that this unit does indeed work right down to almost freezing temperatures too (the reason I had to stop using my old compressor dehumidifier). I particularly like the feature that constantly changes the output airflow angle – very useful for drying out a large room/area.
Pretty handy device. Great for winter clothes drying.
I decided to go for a Desiccant dehumidifier over a compressor dehumidifier.
The advertised stats for compressor dehumidifiers requires the environment to be at high temperatures and high humidity levels.
Whereas the advertised stats for a desiccant dehumidifier is consistent over a large range of temperatures.
Desiccant also provides you with some heating and not as heavy as those compressors.
Really surprised how much water it can draw out of the air.
Bought this after repeatedly suffering from mold patches on the windows and ceiling of our bedroom (no doubt exacerbated by the en-suite shower). For the first 3 or 4 days it was running almost constantly and had to be emptied a couple of times a day. Now it only turns on for a few minutes every 2 or 3 hours and requires emptying every 2 or 3 days. The windows are much less likely to have condensation on them in a morning and the ceiling patches have stayed away after they were cleaned. I am really impressed by the performance of this dehumidifier and would happily recommend it to friends. The noise level, from its position about 1.5m from the foot of our bed, is very acceptable and doesn’t disturb our sleep. We have it turned to about midway on the scale for the humidity setting and it remains turned on unless we are going out all day, or going away. I don’t think it is using much electricity once it has reached the humidity level that is set.

So far so good, this dehumidifier is well worth the money! Within the first day it had removed ~6 litres of water from the air. I bought an atmospheric hygrometer alongside this and I can watch the dehumidifier work its magic, which is strangely satisfying.
I originally got this to dry out the room where I store my camera equipment but as long as the doors are open, this dehumidifier is powerful enough to quickly suck moisture out of other rooms in the house too. Even on a moderate setting this dehumidifier can reduce humidity from 51% to ~36% in less than an hour.

Excellent dehumidifier. Have to empty it once every 12 hours so we know it’s doing its job. Has a 2l tank so removing 4l water a day for us. Very pleased with its performance. Has a built in ioniser
The reason we opted for a desiccant dehumidifier was so we wouldn’t need to turn the heating on so much in the winter. The air coming out of it isn’t as warm as we expected but on the lower setting you definitely get warmer air than the higher setting.
Very simple to remove and empty tank as well.
Only downside to this is that there is a unique smell coming from it. It’s not a terrible smell, just a little odd. If I had to buy again I would probably buy the simple version of this. Apart from the ioniser and silver filter, I think the simple version is better value for money.
Works very well and collects water nicely. Bought for when drying clothes (that I cant tumble dry or hang outside in the winter) and it keeps the humidity down nicely. Does take a little while to get up to speed for extracting moisture but once going it does the job nicely (and I feel quietly even at max speed).
Didn’t even smell when it starts up, something that the manual and some people mentioned, so was happy at that also.
Great machine however I wish I had spent a little more and bought the newer digital version as that you can ‘time’ to run and switch off I believe – this one you cant so would be on all day (though maybe I haven’t read the manual properly!). However as I don’t need really it all year round I am happy.
Cant tell you how much it costs to run but suppose treating dampness would cost a lot more!
Would I recommend? Yes.
I got this for a house in Co Clare where it is damp all the time. I researched and found that desiccant worked great for cold areas as it did not have to heat up as some dehumidifiers would stop in cold areas. This worked in an area that was 5degrees. It took the damp feel and smell out of the air within a few hours.
I was very surprised how much water it collected in the first day. I sent it on auto mode so once it got to the right humidity it would stop. Great for when you are drying clothes inside. They took half the time and the room smelt alot better.
Easy to empty but could do with a larger drip tray. Once you take the tray out no water drips with is great as my last one did this. Once you turn off the dehumidifier the fan will continue for a few minutes. Would definately buy another one again. Delivered by the local post so arrived in once piece!!
Probably the best dehumidifier I’ve had over the years. It runs very quietly, it is easy to empty and to clean, it is pretty light, and it does a great job of controlling humidity levels. It’s supplied with a hose for constant drain. This can be a little fiddly to plug into the internal nozzle, and the hose is fairly stiff so I’ve ended up hooking it over the sink to keep it from springing back into a coil. The hood is adjustable so you can direct the stream of warm air that exits the dehumidifier to warm the room, which also helps reduce relative humidity. I’ve had one set up in my workshop/shed for a year now and it does a great job of keeping everything rust (and frost) free. Even on economy mode it will dry washing quickly.
It works well. I had this specifically to use in a garage but thought I would test it in the house first where I didn’t really think there was an issue with humidity and the tank was full at the end of the day so it does the job. The quiet mode isn’t all that quiet in my opinion but it will depend on what you can tolerate. Personally I wouldn’t be able to have this running in a room I wanted to sleep in. It pushes out quite a bit of warm air which is a sort of bonus. I haven’t noticed any issues with odours or unusual noise. The weakest aspect is the tank. There should be an easier way to empty the tank rather than the cumbersome method of peeling off the lid and tipping the contents out, e.g. a cap or a valve.
We are very pleased with this. We chose it after checking on line for comments. The case seems strong and is elegant. All the parts fit very well and there are no rattles from inside. The fan is quiet enough to have in a bedroom and is significantly noisier when operating at full blast. The control options are clearly marked on the top panel and give a variety of combinations for dehumidifying. We have a large glass enclosed veranda on a flat roof. The condensation in the morning in winter is considerable, but in 2/3 hours this is all gone and sometimes fills the container on the device ( 7 litres). All in all, this has (so far) been a very good buy and my wife has already suggested we should buy another one for downstairs. She’s probably right.
I purchased the dehumidifier in October 2014. Since then the item was heavily used and it extracted around two litres of humidity from the air daily.
Since yesterday, the 11th of November it started to make noises intermittently, some kind of rubbing against something inside. Unit is still working and extracting water from the air. For me the point was reached to get a replacement. Too late for warranty claims after over three years and it’s time for the unit to retire.
I do not regret this buy and can definitely recommend the DD122.
From my experience the humidity in flats across UK have high humidity, was impossible for me to get it out with ventilation. Yes, indeed the costs for electricity for these units are high, but this is also an excellent investment for your health in order to prevent mould.
I used this dehumidifier mainly on lower fan speed, saves energy on your electricity bill and did the job.
Newer let me down and with less than 50/year of initial costs a good investment in long term.
