Amazing weather station. Just make sure you plan properly and you will be good. Had a few weather stations with propeller wind sensors. I live right on the North Atlantic and they never last. Ultrasonic is the way to go.

Two caveats at the end of this review, but I am extremely impressed having given up with a Weatherflow system which started to die after three years.

Extremely easy to set up and the large screen console is superb. It recognises all the sensors immediately and the range is excellent: I can view the display, which is the Wi-Fi connected hub, at the front of the house whilst all the sensors are distributed to the back. The display is really comprehensive and covers internal sensors for which there is enormous capacity. I have an air quality monitor working with it and will add several internal temperature/hygrometer sensors and a lightning sensor.

The display enables comprehensive settings and shows a variety of graphs – far more than WU can manage. It integrates with WU seamlessly as well.

Remarkably for a Chinese device, the website and manual are comprehensive and in impeccable English and really helpful.

I cannot comment on durability and reliability, but the 5 inch standard tipping bucket rain gauge is a great improvement over haptic rain gauges and the ultrasonic anemometer much more reliable than mechanical.

There is a problem connecting data feed to WOW (Met Office site) at present, but I suspect a firmware upgrade will sort that.

I was furious when I found that the stainless steel supporting arm had been drilled inaccurately; I spent an hour modifying it, but the device redeemed itself in operation.

I have attached a couple of shots of the display

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding in all respects

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is my second Ecowitt station, the first (HP2560_C display with a WS90 sensor) is still running great at another location.

Given how well it is performing, I decided to buy the Wittboy for my other location as I didn’t really need a display, given that the GW2000 hub has a very detailed web UI with plenty of options to fiddle with.

Setup was very easy – simply turn on the WS90 sensor, then connect the GW2000 to your router (I did mine via Ethernet) and you’ll start getting data within seconds. All you need to do then to view your data online is sign up for an account at ecowitt.net and link your weather station to your account. There is also an Ecowitt app for iOS/Android to view your data as well.

You can also upload data to Weather Underground, WOW, Weathercloud as well as custom sites such as PWS Weather.

The web UI for the GW2000 is easy to use and navigate, and gives you options for customising your local network, weather services, device settings, unit settings, sensor calibration, and rain totals (including offsets and editing rainfall amounts). You can also view which sensors are attached (and their signal strength) and also which sensors are compatible with the GW2000. Live data is viewable in the web UI as well.

The GW2000 hub can be updated over the air (OTA) through the web UI, however the WS90 needs to be connected to your PC via a micro USB cable (not supplied) and a specific program used to upload the latest firmware to the device. Not ideal, but understandable as the WS90 (unlike the hub) can only transmit data rather than receive it. Firmware updates for the WS90 are usually released every 3-6 months, so make sure you have relatively easy access to the sensor to perform these updates.

Sensor data is very accurate, from what I have observed. You may need to calibrate the haptic rain sensor to receive the most accurate results from it, but after this is done it’s pretty much set and forget. I’ve included my rainfall offsets, they may or may not work for you.

Overall, I’m extremely happy with this station. Minimal maintenance, no moving parts and accurate and consistent data with the option to add plenty of additional Ecowitt sensors should you feel the need.

Easy to use and maintain, minimalist all-in-one station with lots of features.

Easy to set up. Outside Temp early morning just after sunrise can be a little high for a short time. Readings are compatible with other weather stations in the area. Has not rained yet so I can’t comment on the rain sensor as yet. Overall very happy. Easy to check logs for max and mins.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve been using the ECOWITT Wi-Fi Weather Station, 7 in 1, for a while now, and it has proven to be a dependable tool for tracking weather conditions. Here’s my take on this product:

    Pros:

    – Accurate Data: This weather station does a good job of providing accurate weather information. Whether it’s temperature, humidity, wind speed, or rainfall, the data it collects is consistently reliable, which is crucial for weather enthusiasts.
    – Sleek Design: The station has a visually appealing design that blends well with its surroundings. It’s not just functional; it adds a touch of modernity to any location where you choose to place it.
    – Information-Rich Display: Although the monitor may look a bit outdated, it compensates with a wealth of information. You get a comprehensive overview of weather conditions at a glance, which is a significant advantage for those who want detailed data.
    – Wunderground Integration: The integration with Wunderground is a definite plus. It allows you to easily share your weather data with the community and access additional features, enhancing your overall weather tracking experience.

    Cons:

    – Short Battery Life in Rain Sensor: One notable downside is the rain sensor’s battery life, which falls short of expectations. You may find yourself needing to replace or recharge the battery more frequently than desired, especially if you live in an area with frequent rainfall.
    – Limited Signal Range: The signal range could be improved. It struggles to maintain a stable connection when passing through a big window and over a distance of about 20 meters with a clear line of sight. This limitation can be frustrating, particularly if you have a larger property.

In summary, the ECOWITT Wi-Fi Weather Station, 7 in 1, is a solid choice for weather enthusiasts who value accuracy and information-rich displays. Its sleek design and integration with Wunderground are definite advantages. However, the short battery life in the rain sensor and the limited signal range may be areas of concern for some users. If these drawbacks aren’t deal-breakers for your needs, this weather station offers reliable weather tracking and data integration capabilities.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersInteresting. Can track wind, solar energy, temperature, pressure, rainfall and humidity.
If you like knowing what the weather is like right next to you this does it great. What it doesn’t do is forecast what will happen next. That said if you compare some stuff with a professional weather station you can see if it’s worth driving a few miles. Especially useful with our North sea fret. The graphs are handy and the app is very useful. You can even share the device with other users so they can see what the weather is doing near you. Well made. Attaches to a pole. Luckily I had one. Display font/colour is basic but you can spend more and get a better one with same weather station. It is fully featured display though.

I have had it some months now, no faults at all.
Data sensor readings all as expected.

Outdoor sensor battery yet to change, built in solar cell might be good.

Works fine on the home network, WiFi is fine no dropouts or missing data no nothing.

The display console handles internet and power grid cuts well, catches up data to the internet services it seems.
Doesn’t consume much power, even on backup battery

The display console can be a little hard to read, you have to be specifically positioned and the console buttons can be a little funny but may just need wearing in it weeks, not a bother really most when most interaction is by the android app.

It makes a good night light.

Rain counter maintenance is due, will update if any problems.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersReally nice kit and very good results.

Very easy to setup and upload data to Weather Underground, Met Office WOW, and Weather Cloud.

Out of the box this kit covers
Temp-In+Out/Pressure/Wind/Rain/Solar/UV and includes a display console which acts as a gateway to upload to internet websites – Pre configured for WU, WOW, and Weather Cloud and Ecowitt’s own cloud storage service.

Before buying the Ecowitt kit I looked at all the other major players.
Some of the products available are clearly aimed at professional level installations with costs starting at 900 just for Temp/Pressure/Wind/Rain measurements with an add-on UV sensor costing more than the Ecowitt kit in total.

Without going to yet another even higher cost level, if one wanted non mechanical wind measurements for long term maintenance free observations, the competitors costs are well over 1500 for the same set of features that the Ecowitt equipment offers while including a Sonic Anemometer.

Clearly this is not true professional equipment, but the build quality and thought that has gone into this kit is very high. For home observations I cannot rate it highly enough.

I started mounting the rain gauge and main sensor array at a low level to check everything worked as expected. I did find a bug that meant that you couldn’t offset the North orientation of the main array. With a couple of emails to Customer Support in HK it was sorted by updating to the latest Firmware. I would suggest that a Firmware update is probably a good idea even if you don’t intend to mount in a non standard orientation, just in case.

Also supplied in the box is a cable with a waterproof plug and bare ends that is for connecting the heater element built into the array for cold weather measurements of wind when ice may affect the sonar. This is ideally attached to a 12V supply which is available from Ecowitt and a UK supplier of Weather Spares, but can be attached to a 5V USB supply (cheap) if only needing protection down to about -10C.

I have now mounted the main array much higher for more consistent wind readings and added anti-bird spikes to the rain gauge !

The main array has a solar cell with a super capacitor that provides most if not all of the needed power. This is backed up by 2x AA cells which are supposed to be Lithium type for greatest life span and cold weather performance, but I am currently using Eneloop NiMH and they are working well.

In order to avoid having to lower the main array (and climb a ladder) to change the battery backup cells I have bought a spare battery compartment cover and a remote battery pack case and dummy cells, made by Ecowitt for another of their models (available from Ecowitt or the Weather Spares company).
Adaptation was a simple matter of a couple of holes in the cover and passing the wires through new holes in the ends of the dummy cells and soldering the 2 wires back together having been passed through said holes. Picture hopefully explains all. Small amounts of super glue were used to seal the holes in the cover.

I have also added an Ecowitt lightning sensor which looks really nifty in its case mounted to the rain gauge stand. Not really needed, but maybe fun to see what it shows ?

If you want to save quite a bit of money, or maybe just prefer a mobile phone to a console for viewing your observations, then the GW1100 is a marvellous (tiny) piece of kit that can be purchased with the sensor array and will constantly upload data to the same weather websites. Comes with an extension USB cable for use with an existing USB phone charger / 5V supply.

Overall – Great kit at a great price.

Added screenshots of the Ecowitt cloud website that show the neat graphs available for selectable time periods.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great kit - Just as good if not better than those at a much higher cost.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis was simple to setup and get operating and is weatherproof . My only issue was tha the lightning detector isnt compatable as per the sellers answer so I am returning it and buying a 3500 . Even so – for the basic functions ( rain wind temp hunidity etc) it is excellent and super simple – I would use the web interphase rather than the app . Took 10 minutes to setup and was then fully functional NB there is an arrow on the weather vane that needs to point west – looking at others near me 90% of people havn’t noticed this ( it uses it for windf direction so all local ones are showing wrong wind direction )

We bought this because a succession of outdoor sensors for weather stations kept failing, so we thought we’d invest in something more robust and more informative.

We are really happy with it because it provides far more information than our previous weather stations and it syncs with a web based server giving us access on our phones/computers along with historical data for analysis. We intend to use the info to decide on whether or not solar panels and/or a small wind turbine would be beneficial.

Installation and setup was a piece of cake. The instructions are very detailed, and every single step is fully explained in the setup procedure. Further, all of the functions are explained in sufficient detail for somebody who has never used one before to understand how it works. The strength of signal between the sensor unit and the base station is strong even though it is further away than our previous sensors which struggled to maintain contact over that distance and wall thickness.

The base unit is good, but we could live without the display as it is easier to use an iPhone.

The readings can be calibrated but we have not done this as the results it is giving are very similar to the readings of other weather stations in our area. So, we are confident it is close enough for what we need to know.

If I was to recommend any changes to the design, it would be to put the bubble for levelling and direction indicator on the underside of the sensor unit so that it can be levelled and aimed from below when being sited high up. Otherwise you need to get it level on the pole with the pole set up plumb on the ground, then carry it up a ladder pre assembled.

    Perfetta

Disappointing that individual history data lines cannot be edited or deleted, especially during the setup stage, without deleting the whole database and having to start over when the outside modules are installed in their permanent locations. The app doesn’t seem to be stand alone with only a local device. It requires an Ecowitt account and connection to one of the suggested weather service databases.

Servizio amazon come sempre impeccabile. Lo consiglio vivamente

Its important to note, this product is days old, and I do wonder if Ecowitt care about failures after 12 months. Why is there no extended warranty available from the manufacturer?

Accurate readings compared with other industrial grade sensors at my site.
Suggest set rain gauge to 0.01 inch, as metric option (0.1mm) is clearly wrong. The tipping amount of the raingauge cannot be altered. I have ascertained 0.01″ is correct. The conversion to mm is 0.254mm. Clearly 0.1mm is wrong.

Ecowitt software, free with unit is great.Had this a year now and it is incredibly useful and easy to set up. You can also see results from other units in the whole country and indeed the world. Bad news was that the temperature monitor stopped working after a year. Good news sent them a message on the app and they posted me out a new sensor which was easy to fit. I am very pleased with it and the app also gives graphs and analysis of all your measurements.

Easy setup but I am still learning. I have only had the unit for a week. I live in Eastern Canada so the rain gauge will have to wait for warmer weather. The power supply unit for the heater in the wind gauge is not included but necessary for our temperatures in the winter. The display is comprehensive and easy to read. Connection to the internet was easy. I have not attempted to connect to online weather service as I am still determining the best location for the anemometer.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersBought this as an upgrade to my first (and limited) weather station. Did a lot of research on a few different brand and yes, it appears to be a little more then some other models and brands,(acurite, ambiant weather), but really, for what you get, it’s a good deal. Acurite charges more for wifi iCloud service, which ends up costing more when buying the Atlas and wifi module. Display console is a little confusing at first, but once you play around with it, it becomes user friendly. Very impressed with the supersonic Anemometer, seems to be very accurate and quick to relay information to the display. Hopefully it performs in all seasons and am looking for the heater cord so when the cold weather comes, I can test the heating pad in the Anemometer and main sensor unit. Data seems to transmit every 4 seconds, so it is nice and up to date every time you glance at it. Love that I can upload the data to a PWS (personal weather station) server and download an app on my phone so I can view the weather data from my phone. So far, I’m very pleased with the quality and many features of this “professional” weather station. I would buy this again, hopefully I won’t need to tho!
