Perfect if you’re into precision sawing. So far this has cut though everything I’ve thrown at it. Edges a bit jagged but these are easily filed smooth so not an issue. Price is perfect, and if I could, id give this 100 stars. Recommend
I was very excited about this cordless saw and I still am. This is my first such tool which earlier I had seen the tradesmen use when they installed the wood floor in my house.
Assembling it took time, I followed the video on Amazon. It was not that hard but I would say it took me between 30-45 minutes to put everything together. It is quite heavy. The base of the saw is broad so you would need a good amount of space to use and store it.
I have made few test runs with it, in summer I am going to use it for my major DIY project. Being cordless makes it easier to use and move. You don’t have to bother about cables coming your way or how far is the power point. The cuts are clean and precise, the laser/LED shows the exact point where the blade would be cutting. To test, I sawed an old fence post with nail embedded in it and this saw went through both wood and nail quite easily, result was a smooth surface. Angled cuts too were precise and smooth.
The clamps and the scales are there to control and guide your cuts.
The overall build quality of this saw is A-one and would last for years.
It’s definitely versatile, able to cut across a pretty wide angle range across both wood and mild steel (box sections) while offering all the convenience of being a cordless power tool. In terms of cut capacities, the R255SMS DB-Li can handle a +/- 50 Mitre Capacity , as well as a +/- 48 Bevel Capacity on top of a maximum 300mm x 90mm cross-cut, the blade runs across a consistent smooth speed and definitely features a high cutting capacity. You can angle and bevel to get the cut you want and do it with all the benefits of doing so cordless too.
The R255SMS DB Li has a pretty wide base, it’s build quality is up there with the best power tools i’ve owned. It feels and runs like it’s been built to last ‘proper’ jobs and cuts through beams and boards like they’re butter. It’s easily to rotate round to get the angle you want the majority of the time – only really halting when there’s a particularly unusual angle to deal with, that’s to it’s built in quick stops.
In terms of blades, you get a general purpose wood blade as well the fine wood blade for fine wood cutting. You are going to need at least a hour to get the saw assembled for the first time, likely a bit more if its your first time going through an evolution assembly but the assembly video available on their site pretty much takes you through it step by step nice and easily. Making any calibration changes isn’t always the easiest thing to do in the world – it’s definitely worth watching a couple of videos online first as that’ll save a lot of time in the long run.
To get the most out of the blade you are going to need a decent saw stand to handle the longest cuts, it is a bit of a shame there’s not a bundle pack given Evolution do a couple of very good saw stands, as they do a bundle with the equally good dual charger that cuts the charging time literally in half (which is great given the battery life isn’t bad at all and really benefits from being a twin power battery setup but equally you are tied to how much you can get out of the batteries, so always worth starting fully charged). Otherwise, there’s very little to fault Evolution with the R255SMS DB Li, as it’s an absolute power horse. Build quality is pretty much perfect throughout (the zero clearance insert is the only thing that feels a bit too plasticky and cheap when compared to everything else), battery life is great and there’s very little sacrifices in terms of features along the way.
I’ve never owned one of these before but had a large decking to build and decided to make life as easy as possible, so I bought this. So pleased I did as making those straight and angled cuts was an absolute doddle, should have bought one years ago. Easy to put together and a quality feel as well. I bought the portable stand to go with it and have been really impressed with them both. Bring on the next project!
Motor slow start good thing, brake (slow down) instantly after power button released so from safety point of view 5*****
some plastic finish elements can be a little stronger but for this price perfect
Laser a little out but ban be easy adjusted
Multi purpose cutting blade absolutely brilliant nice cuts aluminum wood plastic
Purchased this as got fed up having to borrow my mates one. Not used regular enough to warrant a more expensive make one. So done a bit of research and this one came out very well on n the reviews for build quality and price. So far very happy. The rail helps immensely with wider materials such as laminate (using the fine cut blade, purchased separately) for what I need it for am very happy with it so far. Only gripe is the saw dust gets everywhere even with the bag attached but this seems to be common in all the saws I have used. But give it a brush down after and it’s fine.
EVOLUTION R255 SMS-DB PLUS MITRE SAW
The saw came as advertised with two blades and two clamps and was well packaged. The 255 in the name refers to the blade diameter i.e., 255mm = 10inch
Setting up was straightforward even with the pictorial instructions, and the settings were bang on straight out of the box. It is much better to download the instructions in pdf format than to rely on the tiny drawings in the printed manual. I would also recommend watching the many videos of this machine that are available on the internet.
One thing I noticed straight away was that the central turntable was slightly higher than the two side tables — more so on the left hand side where the difference was about 1mm. This means that if the blade is set at 90deg to the turntable and the work piece is clamped to the left hand table, it will be slightly tilted in relation to the blade. I decided not to return it as I suspect that they are all like that and the replacement would be just as bad! Instead, I fixed it with a piece of stout card attached to the left hand table with double sided tape and given a coat of polyurethane varnish for extra durability. The discrepancy on the right hand side was so small I didn’t bother trying to rectify it and I suspect that wear on the turntable sliding surfaces will take care of it in time.
The gap in the saw blade channel was too big for my tastes so I installed a piece of scrap 11mm X 45mm PSE, trimmed to be level with the turntable surface, and wedged in with packing pieces to keep it upright. No glue was used so this mod is easily reversible. It is worth noting that the orange plastic insert has to be lifted up at the back and slid out rearwards. The fence has to be removed to enable this to be done. I also fitted a 25mm MDF spacer to the fence to enable better cuts on small work pieces to be made. It can be slid aside for cutting angles. I don’t envisage doing much bevel cutting but if I did, I would use a false table to preserve the narrow kerf slot in the turntable.
The Evolution all purpose blade has to run at about half the speed of a conventional wood blade to avoid overheating and degradation when cutting metal. It would therefore not be practicable to fit the Evolution blade to a conventional “wood only” mitre saw. I liked the “soft start” feature even though it slows down the cutting process slightly and the blade comes to a stop reasonably quickly when the power is switched off.
Dust extraction is not particularly good on this machine, even with a vacuum fitted, and is especially bad when cutting steel. Full PPE is required as the swarf goes everywhere. I will be mostly using it outside in the summer, clamped to the top of a Workmate or dedicated stand.
The laser is aligned to the centre of the cut which I did not find particularly useful. I tried to set it to the left hand side of the kerf but found it to be quite tricky to adjust the position whilst keeping it square to the blade. I have now given up on it and regard it as something of a gimmick.
Overall quality I would say is decidedly average and is suited to the DIY end of the market. That isn’t too bad considering the price. To get a machine up to cabinet making quality, you would have to spend well over double the price and it would be a “wood only” machine. If you want to cut a wide range of materials on one saw, there isn’t much choice at the moment. That being the case, I would recommend this product with reservations.
Very happy with the saw and don’t have any issues that I can think of. I have only used the wood blade thus far. Soon after purchase I did buy the Evolution mitre saw stand, which to my mind is invaluable. Work needs to be spaced off of the back rail when trench cutting which I didn’t realise. However, that’s not an issue.
Having to build it first wasn’t great but gives you an understanding of how it works otherwise very pleased I had an older version which finally gave up the ghost, this one seems better made and more accurate
I bought this saw to replace an Evolution Rage 3s mitre saw purely because it didn’t have the capacity to cut 90mm square oak newel posts.
There are a few variants of the R255SMS and only this DB+ version has a 90mm capacity.
It was very easy to put together and once set up works very well.
It comes with 2 blades and a couple of quick clamps which also work well.
Overall I’m very pleased with this saw and in my opinion, it represents excellent value for money.
Don’t hesitate, just buy it. It came in parts but I managed to assembke it in about an hour due to easy to follow instructions. It’s powerful and I recommend new users to watch some safety videos to help keep your hands attached to your wrists
I have an issue right now , last weekend i assembled the mitre saw and placed on the stand same brand and what i done was done correctly , however when i went to place the saw blade the cap or cover is locked in tght and not alligned to where it should be and therefore too tight for me to try to undo …… i havent taken picture yet but will do …i just needed some advice
This was bought to replace an aging broken non slide mitre saw.
Unpacking & assembling was easy but you do need a fair bit of space to build it.
Completed it heavy & really big so ideally needs to be sited, I move mine around but again it’s big!
Accuracy is excellent and laser is a good guide, it’s really quiet & a joy to use, but I’ll probably invest in a stand for it to make things that little bit easier.
All the major angle adjustments are very easy & quick to make.
On balance if you need one buy it you won’t be disappointed!
Saw seems good quality but only came with one blade , the wood blade was missing and it seems this is a common thing with evolution saws but the saw is good quality so fa
Used for jobs around the house, good all round tool, disliked the dustbag which needs improving
Mine arrived without the extra advertised blade. I contacted manufacturer and it was in post next day. This is my third evolution saw. I find them good reliable work-horses and great value for money.
Real quality & thought out product came with two blades and everything you need looks very impressive in my workshop but most importantly works a treat very accurate and easy to operate

Much better quality than expectet for the Money. Absolutely a high quality product, that can compeet with the other “high-end” products
The first unit they sent was the wrong voltage which was annoying as I had scheduled to use it when it arrived. So I had to buy another unit so I’ve paid for two which is crazy . Not impressed.
However, the Saw is excellent. Have been using it everyday and it cuts square and is pretty accurate.
Would recommend this mitre saw. The downside is that one of the clamps that secures the timber to the saw base is bent. Will need to try and straighten it but doubt that will work as its made of cast Aluminium. Otherwise excellent machine.
I don’t normally write a review on tools but I had too write one on this saw… its the best mitre saw I have ever used, it has a slow start so it doesn’t kick back or jolts as it starts to spin, it’s multi material blade does as it says which is brilliant and especially for the price for the blade as well. The accuracy has being a big part in my use for the saw as I use it for precision work. The saw very capable and easy to use. It hast to be built but is very simple. There is a video that shows you how to fit the blade and how to check it, I could go on but I rate this saw as 5 stars and having own it for 6 months and use it day in and day out it has being very reliable and hasn’t had any difficulty cutting through anything I’ve thrown at it so far, can’t rate this saw enough.

great saw but it need set up out the box especially the laser. they dont supply the tools to set the angles up which is my only gripe.
no you cant use this saw out the box unless you want squint cuts.

Really happy with this saw, great value for money, easy to set up. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a mitre saw at a good price
Replacing a similar size saw with this and everything works well, I like the soft start, the laser is accurate and everything works as it it should.A+++++
Super accurate and top value for money. I’ve had a few different makes over the years and this feels like quality to me.
I have a problem with a missing part. I have been in contact with the manufacturer over last few weeks giving various info which they requested.
Today they asked for info regarding whom I purchased the item from, and telling me that they do not ship to Ireland.
I informed them that I purchased the item from AMAZON UK. I gave them Amazom’s UK Address.
Wow, they replied that Amazon were responsible for my problem and that I should contact Amazon.
Well , .Amazon put me in contact with the Manufacturer in the first place. Now I can not find an E mail number for Amazon.
I am really sick of being bandied about by Amazon and Evolution.
Using the saw for for cutting wood panelling for stairs, lounges etc the accuracy of the cuts are spot on and a very clean finish.
Total value fir money. Thoroughly recommend.
A great powerful saw, cuts 99% of required materials wood, metal and plastic. Requires a little assembly but is easy to do. It does require calibrating to ensure true and accurate mitres, simple to do and all tools are supplied with the saw. A reasonable price considering that most building/trade tools are in short supply due to covid.
One of the best mitre saws available, and at a fantastic price. Highly recommended for both DIY and professional users.
Great chop saw nice solid cut spot on value for money highly recommend
Fantastic machine
Accurate and very robust
Excellent repeatable cuts
Good soft start kind on the breakers
Amazing bit of kit , you get so much tool for your money , it makes short work out of any project , I would highly recommend this to anyone
I can not fault the mitre saw. The only thing is, if like me you cut mostly wood, you may wish to change the blade for a blade with more teeth. There is a lot of blades out there with a conversion ring kit to convert the internal size fron a 24.5 mm to a 30mm center hole. a lot of these conversion ring kits are really bad. the only conversion ring kits I would trust is Bosch ones.

Its not often I take the time to review a product that I bought for my DIY jobs, but this Evolution Mitre Saw is without question worth the effort. Below are just a few overwhelming positives:
1) Will comfortably cut through a 4X4 fence post.
2) The cut itself using the wood cutting disk is absolutely perfect with minimal to no blow-out on the cut 4X4 posts. (two disk types supplied, one for wood/timber the other disk for metal/plastic ect ect)
3) All the functions that come standard with this saw feel purposeful, exact and very well designed.
4) The laser cutting guide on this machine is spot on. I know some purest out their may think a laser is quite gimmicky, but this opinion is debatable and I use mine every cut.
5) The R255 SMS-DB mitre saw can be fully adjusted to the uses preferences, but like mine no adjustment was needed as all levels were correct from factory.
6) You get a 3 YEARS warranty with this Mitre Saw and registering the saw was a breeze.
This saw for the cost is unbeatable and if you can get over the fact its not a “,mainstream saw” and decide to buy this saw, you will not be disappointed in the slightest.

Fantastic value for money. As good as DeWalt for 25 per cent of the price.
One of the best tools I have bought for along time.
Thoroughly recommend.
Its not the cheapest on market but would fully recommend
Got it a present for my father, didnt use it just tested, works fine. Package arrived as discribed with 2 (multi matirial and wood) bledes included and other accesories. I own older version of this mitre saw for a few years now and i am very satisfied.

Easy to use although the instructions on setting up the machine could read better and illustrations to correspond would clear up uncertainty
Bought this as a replacement for my old worshop mitre saw. Really pleased with it so far, extremely accurate and solidly built with the motor soft start which reduces wear. Up to 50 angle cut/45 bevel, quick release material clamps. So impressed with this machine I bought one for my son.

My right bevel setting was off by a whole .4 of a degree … joking apart, it’s very easy to adjust, and the saw is an excellent tool for wide, thick, thin, ANY wood, especially if you add a 100-tooth wheel to get a super-smooth cut edge. I haven’t tried it on any other materials yet but don’t anticipate any problems. You do need to control dust though.

got my saw today and have done a quick test on it, and it looks to be the job however the box said a wood blade would be provided but there wasn’t one did this happen to anyone else?
I had a Dewalt before which is (inevitably) a proper tool, but I have quite small hands, and it required 3 x different buttons to be pressed to release the blade guard and start the saw running – if you had big hands that would be great, as it was it gave me repetitive strain injury over a period of months.
The Evolution is effortless, accurate, well designed and stable. The only thing that’s slightly disappointing is the dust collection, but that’s a small compromise – I’d buy another one without any problem.
