Plastic Blade Benefits

  • On average trimmers with plastic blades are, on estimate, 5dB quieter in comparison to trimmers that use nylon line, therefore making them more pleasant to use – for your neighbours, the wildlife and you.
  • Blades are easy to fit and remove from the cutting disk in comparison to trimmer line which can become tangled, prone to uncoiling and generally difficult to work with before you’ve even started the trimmer.
  • Depending on what density of grass you are cutting, one blade lasts up to 4 standard cuts. For thicker, denser grass, you may need 1 blade per cut.
  • Nylon line snaps and breaks off whilst in use, leaving small bits of line on your lawn and around your garden, therefore making it an environmental hazard to birds and other animals that could pick it up in a mistaken identity of food. Blades on the other hand just wear down over time – being more durable works.

Hubby loves it – no cables anymore! Does the whole garden in one charge. Light to hold and just a breeze to use rounds the hedges, trees and grass border because there’s no cables to worry about.
Hubby says he goes through a blade every time he uses it – but we do have a lot of trees and rugged large stones on the edge of the lawn.
So long as it’s easy to get the blades at a reasonable price going forward then go for it!

Easy to use and lightweight. Battery life enough for a medium sized garden. Plastic blades don’t last long if you’re careless like me around walls, kerbside or paving but that’s my problem.

Excellent lightweight cordless trimmer. Handles well and does the job. I’m arthritic and had no problems assembling or using. Some comments refer to not being able to buy spare blades – these are now available on Amazon. I agree with other comments that if you have hard edging on your lawns you may need a new blade each time you use the trimmer, but benefits far outweigh this and blades are easy to replace.

Its not that heavy and there is a technique to using it around kerbs and walls so you dont destroy the blades. Its pretty well thought out and took me a while to notice there is a place to store extra blades on the handle. Kinda like Sarah Conners shotgun in T2. Just for that, 5stars.

We bought it for our grass verge outside the front of out house because the council make such an appalling job of it my husband has been cutting it with shears on his hands and knees and at 84 is getting too old for this.
Now he does not have to bend down and it is done in a few minutes with no resulting backache.
Only on complaint, it was delivered in a rather tattered box with no outer paper or box nor an address but it was intact so we kept it..

I had to call in a strong man to help me put it together, but otherwise it does the job well.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt’s lightweight and yet still manages to get the job done! The clips are easily changed and the battery power lasts 35-40 minutes, which gave me enough time to make a start on the garden, then a good tea break before I tackled the next side. I’m very impressed so far.

My one tiny niggle is that I have only found one source for the replacement clips (with the correct head) but I hope with more research I can resolve this easily enough.

Plug and play probably isn’t the right term to use, but it really was that simple. We plugged it in overnight for a decent charge then enjoyed the freedom to reshape our overgrown hedge without needing to worry about dangling wires or needing to feed an extension cable through a window.

I’ve now been maintaining that 30ft length (4ft tall) hedge for over three months and haven’t yet needed to charge the trimmer.

Compared to my old trimmer, I truly couldn’t believe how smooth and comfortable this was to use, even while it was chewing through deep layers of box hedge. The two-hand operation provided a sturdy grip and safety clip made it feel safe during use.

I liked the ease with which it was able to be set up, charged, and battery life was so much longer than my previous strimmer (not a Flymo) and the price was excellent, about half the price of some others. I like the spare blades being incorporated within the machine so if you run out or one breaks, you have spares with you in situ. I am in my seventies and it is a lovely light practical machine, easy to clean and I am very very happy with it.

If you’re clumsy like me then this is a must buy. I went through 3 wired trimmers (literally…) before resorting to wireless and it’s made life so much easier. I can just hack and slash away without worrying about cutting the wire or running extension leads which just makes the job less stressful and quicker too. Battery lasts a good 2.5 hours too which imo is very respectable.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersHaving had bad experience with string/wire based strimmers which jam, I decided to purchase one which uses plastic blades instead. This works really well, has lots of power and cuts nicely. Battery life is good (I have a very small garden but it will last a few weeks, trimming once a week).

There is a negative though – the battery isn’t removable so you have to charge the battery inside the strimmer which, for me, means taking the strimmer indoors to charge. This isn’t enough to demote it to a four star rating for me but it’s worth noting.

Was great for rose petals on grass as well as general dirt & grit along edges of terrace slabs. On balance I am happy I purchased.

When the trimmer arrived there was a massive chunk taken out of the side of the box, which just happened to coincide with the plug, so the top pin had snapped off. A plug change and a charge later it was ready to go. it is really straight forward to get going and so light. I used it for a solid fifteen minutes around the summer house and it was no problem. It cuts really well and left it all looking nice and neat. I have had to change the blade already and while it does come with spares it could get expensive if they need changing every time.
Being cordless, it is fantastic not to be hindered.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFlymo SimpliCut Li Cordless Battery Hedge Trimmer – Lightweight 14.4 V Li-Ion Battery Integrated (Including Charger), 40 cm Blade Length, 16 mm Blade Gap, Premium Cutting Performance.

We had an electric hedge trimmer before this came along, it was ancient and had most definitely seen better days…. It was in the out building of this house when we moved in and that was nearly 10 years, its gone in the bin now!
This one glides through the hedge easily with no electrical cables getting in the way like the old one.
It charged up in a couple of hours and was ready to use, once fully charged you get a runtime of 60 minutes. I’m not sure if the video has uploaded as I’m having issues with uploading videos at the moment.
But as you can see from the video(if uploaded) that it glided through the hedge and its not to noisy.
The integrated battery is 14.4 V, the cutting speed is 2400, the blade width is 40cm and a 16mm blade gap….. It’s lightweight and weighs only 2.1kg.
Its so easy to use, we have had no issues with it whatsoever.
Flymo are well known for garden tools and have been around as long as I can remember.
I think this is priced about right at 100.54 (11.3.20) and can highly recommend.

    Perfect lightweight rechargeable hedge trimmer!

For years I have been using a strimmer around the edges of my garden and leaving the grass debris behind. Now with this handy gadget I can go around and hoover up the grass cuttings and any other small fluff. My garden is small to medium sized and there was enough charge on this to do the whole lot. Very pleased.

I tried this one out on my uncut grass, about4″ tall at the moment.
IT is light, easy to handle and the blade works well. No need to keep thumping it to get a bit more cutting chord.Just keep going.

I can honestly say that I love this Flymo. I know it is meant for gardens and I have used it outside for leaves and cobwebs but after giving it a wipe down I have been using it indoors as well.
It is ideal for stairs being that it is cordless, as well as high up cornices and skirting boards. It includes the long crevice nozzle as well as a soft brush nozzle. The crevice nozzle for floor edges, corners and hard to reach places. The soft brush nozzle for dusting, skirting boards and hard to reach high up cobwebs. I found the battery life to be brilliant (product description says 20 minutes) but I’m convinced I went well over half an hour, finished my house and the battery was still going strong.
It sucks up powerfully (wet or dry) — I have been doing the cobwebs outside in the corners and after all the rain we’ve been having it worked just fine. It is fairly lightweight as well, especially for holding up while doing the cornices.
I did find that the filter is not that big and I needed to empty it before continuing but that’s because we have a Labrador that sheds hair at an alarming rate and it collects her hair with ease but really fills up the filter quite quickly.
The end of the Flymo has a rubber type accessory that needs to be removed when inserting the long crevice nozzle and brush nozzle but kept in a safe place because when you’re not using these attachments it protects the end of the tip from cracking if swooping across hard surfaces to protect and prevent accidental cracking of the tip. It also includes a charging dock which can be wall-mounted, but ours has found its designated place and I really love it.

IDEAL for Outdoor as well as Indoor (For Me)

This Flymo SimpliVac is an 18V wet and dry cordless garden vacuum cleaner. To me, this is a niche gadget which seems to be intended for picking up small quantities of clippings and soil etc., it is not a leaf vacuum. In the box apart from the vacuum, you get a charging dock/adaptor, long crevice nozzle and brush nozzle plus a user guide.

The unit feels sturdily constructed but at the same time isn’t heavy at around 1.3Kg and is well balanced plus easy to hold. My example took around 4 hours to charge and you get over 20 mins run time. You can either plug the charger directly into the machine or connect it via the wall mounting dock supplied which also has storage for the tools.

There are two filters — one looks washable, whilst the other looks like the sort that you can clean quite a few times but would eventually replace. In use, the unit is fairly noisy and there’s no speed control, just on and off, although the suction power is good.

The crevice nozzle and the brush nozzle are well designed and, in the case of the latter, you can retract the brush and just use it as a nozzle tool. The translucent waste compartment is easy to remove and empty but in my view is just too small and will require emptying quite frequently. The machine copes okay with wet and dry waste although the filters will need a clean after clearing up wet debris.

I am not a hardcore gardener and struggle a bit to appreciate which niche this product is intended to fill — it’s no leaf vacuum but I suppose I could see it being used in a potting shed for pickling up spilt compost or cuttings. It could also be used for cleaning up inside a car etc. but the tools are limited for that. Another concern is that I think it represents a sizeable investment for what it is.

Overall, a well made and powerful niche product at a price, my struggle is in deciding what the niche is.
