Advanced Performance Analytics What amount of training is right for you? Forerunner 245 offers personalised training and recovery insight for smarter training decisions, helping you prepare for your next race. It keeps tabs on your VO2 max and understands how heat and altitude impact your performance. The higher your VO2 max, the higher you can expect to perform, which is exactly what is shown by the performance condition metric. Training status evaluates your recent exercise history and performance indicators to let you know if youâre training productively, peaking or overreaching. See how your workouts influence the development of endurance, speed and power with aerobic and anaerobic training effect feedback. Recovery time helps you maximise your efforts by predicting when you will be ready for your next tough challenge. You can view your overall training load, which measures your exercise volume from the last 7 days and compares it to the optimal range for your fitness and recent training history. | More Ways to Work Out Running is what you do, so train smarter with the tools available from our Garmin Connect online fitness community. Create your own custom workouts, or download free ones that sync right to your watch. Or, if youâve got a specific goal in mind for your next 5K, check out Garmin Coach. Featuring guidance from expert coaches and free training plans that adapt to you and your goals, itâs a foolproof way to get to the finish line. As part of your training plan, it can even help you predict your race time. What about when you want to switch it up? Forerunner 245 also has activity profiles for cycling, pool swimming, indoor rowing and even for using the elliptical or stair-stepper. | Analyse Your Running Form The Forerunner 245 GPS smartwatch also has the tools you need to improve your running form. The watch measures crucial running metrics such as cadence, stride length, ground contact time and balance, vertical oscillation and vertical ratio. These measurements are the key to understanding your form, so you can bring your best on every run and at every race. Your Forerunner 245 can start tracking these metrics with the addition of a compatible heart rate strap or the compact Running Dynamics Pod, which clips right onto your waistband. | Stay Connected on the Run Forerunner 245 makes it easy to run without leaving important smart features behind. Once paired with your compatible smartphone, youâll be able to receive text messages and see social media updates, emails and more right on your wrist. And new safety and tracking features make it easy to share your location with chosen contacts in case you need assistance â manually, or automatically with built-in incident detection (when paired with a compatible smartphone), if needed. So, lace up your shoes, and head out with a little extra peace of mind. |
I had been thinking of purchasing this watch full price however when I seen it was in the Amazon prime day I ran to the check out.
As a keen runner who was looking for more data during runs I decide to trade in my Apple Watch for a Garmin.
Once you’ve worked out how to navigate round the watch. It is defo worth the money.
It’s light on the wrist and has a long battery life.
Gift for my husband as his watch broke. Does exactly what he wants it to do works well on his run. Also it was half the price as any other store.
Bought this as I’m starting to enjoy running.
Very helpful to keep pace, track your daily activity and especially stress and body battery level.
Paired with Garmin connect software, a must-have gear for runners.
Amazing quality stays charged for ever ( was out whole week but the battery was all available) very easy to use and amazing insights from the data collected. Most importantly economical too.
This is a fantastic watch if you’re mainly running. The GPS tracking is more accurate than my phone and doesn’t usually take long to lock on – maybe 30 seconds most days.
The watch is quite chunky and not as sleek as a fitbit or Apple watch. It looks like a traditional men’s sports watch, which I don’t mind. I have slender wrists and it still fits fine. The strap has plenty of notches for adjustment and is easily replaceable if you want to try a different one.
I’ve had the watch and worn it every day for a couple months now and there are no scratches on the screen so far.
It doesn’t have a touchscreen, but navigation using the side buttons is simple. Occasionally the ‘start’ button will be pressed by my cuff or whatever I’m carrying, but it’s possible to lock the watch if this happens frequently.
My only complaint is that the heart rate monitoring seems quite inconsistent and doesn’t always correspond with how I’m actually feeling. I have a suspicion that it sometimes matches my cadence rather than my actual heart rate. I’d need to get a chest monitor to confirm this. Since I’m not really doing HR based training, it isn’t a big deal, but I’d recommend getting a chest monitor if you intend to train with zones.
Garmin Connect is a solid app. Loads of features, a decent interface, and good integration with Strava, although it still doesn’t auto-fill descriptions from planned workouts.
I’m doing the Garmin half marathon plan and it seems good so far. Sadly it doesn’t intersperse planned strength and mobility workouts, but the scheduled runs are helping me stay on track and increasing my fitness.
Recommended!
Perfect for keeping track of all training and occasionally giving you a nudge when being lazy. Everything you’d expect from garmin .
As an intermediate runner, I wanted a watch that wasn’t too fancy or complicated, but that would help me improve. This watch ticked all the boxes for me. I especially love the daily suggested workouts and the predicted times feature. Delivery was fas
I like it because battery last longer then my Apple Watch. Recommend all Garmin watch are great.
It’s a good watch but the vibration gets weaker over time you can barely feel it pretty disappointing
Bought for my wife and she loves it. Still figuring all the functionality but definitely a nice gadget for runners. Does have the memory to store some music, so you can run without any phone just the watch
Good but too small for male wrist. Brought the next model
My son absolutely would not be without this watch. Uses it daily for so many things – especially for running and health checks.
I bought this watch more foe the smart features like notifications rather than foe working out. It was incredibly easy to set up which makes a change! The notifications are instant. I use it for running and it’s easy to use for that too. Press a button and off you go. Battery lasts a good few days. Comfy silicone strap and plenty of watch faces to choose from. Very happy with it.
Brilliant watch. Tracks swimming and strength workouts as well as running. Most useful feature is auto tracking laps and distance for swimming. Also auto counts reps and times your rests for strength/weights workouts
Good watch, easy to use. Really happy with it. Can link it with my heart monitor no problem.
I’ve had a couple of Garmin devices. They do take a little time to configure properly–you’ll need to mess around with settings, widgets etc. Especially if you’re using a third-party watch face with different customizations. But once you get there it’s well worth the time. The watch is reliable, the charge lasts me for around a week (with HR on) and the notifications come through consistently (not a given with smartwatches I’ve found). The strap’s super easy to change, although the one that comes with it is comfortable.
This was a replacement for an older garmin device (225) which had stopped working after a number of years. This replacement has a slightly smaller/narrower watch band but still fits ok. Compared to my old garmin this has lots more features, some of which I use but the majority I do not bother with. I mainly use this for monitoring my running outdoors and the treadmill indoors. I particularly like the option for measuring the workout on the treadmill (a useful option that the older device did not have). For outdoor work, the distance and heart rate appear to be very accurate and the app is a must have for viewing the various metrics from your workout. I have the app installed on my laptop on the phone. Both work well.
Got this for my husband as a Christmas present, he is really happy with it! He has found the battery power to be great and links up to his strava easily to log his exercise.
Mainly used for running and cycling, found it to be very useful in measuring performance.
Really how the watch. It has excellent features & I love the variety of watch faces.
The only thing I’m frustrated about, is that when I do a long run.it doesnt accurately record the distance. For example on a marathon training run my watch promped me I’d hit 22 miles. When I stopped and saved the run the actual distance was 19.57 miles.
Other than that I love the garmin.
Good fit, easy to use and straightforward connection to Connect app.
I wear this watch all the time not just for working out, I dumped my Samsung smart watch for it as it’s much better and the app is much better. I did have to change the strap as I didn’t get on with it but Garmin sent me a replacement of my choice for free so all good
Upgraded from a Vivoactive 3 and was surprised by how much of an upgrade it feels. Loads more data now available on Garmin Connect which I’ve found really useful. However, it’s clearly designed for runners (the clue is in the name I guess), if you want a general ‘smart’ watch this is not it, buy a Fenix or Apple watch. However, as a runner I love all of the training features and LOVE PacePro which allows you to upload a GPX file of the course you are running and guides you to the pace you need to be running at each individual section to hit your target time, it’s brilliant! Battery life is SO much better then the Vivioactive, it lasted a week even including a Marathon! Unfortunately, I don’t like the silicon strap that it comes with, it irritates my skin and I don’t have sensitive skin. I’ve never had an issue with watch straps (including Garmin watches in the past) but this causes red patches and soreness and I know from talking to others that this issue is not uncommon; others tell me you can apply vaseline to the sore spots regularly but surely this isn’t something you should need to do regularly! I have now bought a fabric strap from a third party which has solved the issue but it’s been annoying.
Overall a great RUNNING watch, not a great ‘smart’ watch and you’ll need to budget for a new strap.
Having changed from a Huawei gt2 the forerunner 245 is alot smaller in my opinion would suit a women’s wrist better. Set up fairly straight forward however I do miss the touchscreen from the gt2 the Garmin connect app is streets ahead of the Huawei health app and size apart the watch will do everything the gt2 did battery is ok looking like 5 to 7 days depending on the useage
As a previous Garmin owner I wanted to stick with the brand as I loved my previous forerunner.
I’m a casual runner, by no means competitive. I usually run between 5 and 10k’s a few times a week so I’m not one for all the bells and whistles the more expensive watches have. This fits the bill perfectly for me, I’ve noticed a lot more features than my older forerunner had such as stress monitoring, respiratory, body battery, etc… which are pretty neat.
I already had the connect app so adding the devices was seamless and easy to pick up where I left off.
One of the main reasons I opted for this was the capability of playing music, I used to run with earphones and my phone which I hated, so using this watch with wireless earphones almost felt liberating.
The only criticism I have is the strap tends to be a bit uncomfortable but that’s not much of an issue and does not impact my running in any shape or form.
Overall it’s a great watch and fits my needs perfectly.
I’ve had a few GPS watches before, the previous one I have is the Vivoactive 3. In comparison this is on another league altogether.
First of all the most impressive difference was battery life. I went for a 10k run with GPS and Glonass and it only took 4% of the battery, where my vivoactive would take 30%.
Second advantage, its smaller and lighter, so confortable indeed.
Then, the amount of details recorded is mind blowing.
I actually prefer to use buttons over the touch also, its more precise especially if it rains or due to sweat.
Connection to my phone was quick, as soon as I got back home it was already updated my run, really impressive.
GPS lock took a mere 5 seconds also.
It also has heart rate when swimming, which the vivoactive 3 cant do.
All in all a great upgrade especially for the battery and confort.
I bought the non music version as 3.5gb storage is nowhere near enough for my collection which is around 300gb. I still use an mp3 player instead of keep swapping music.
As a keen runner, I find this a really useful tool. It tracks my runs, HR, distance and everything else I could possibly think of. It’s easy then to upload these to the smart phone app and to Strava for closer examination. I use it everyday to keep track of runs or any other physical activity. I didn’t find the default running watch face the best but it was easy to download replacements through the Garmin App and install those instead. On the downside, it can sometimes take a while for the GPS to find your location and you find yourself hanging about at the start while it finds itself. The button functions and menus aren’t always the most obvious either. There are training plans in the app which purport to dynamically adjust to your ability. While it’s clear what you need to do each day, I didn’t find them at all helpful in achieving the goals that I set. Those faults lose it one star but, overall, I’m really pleased that I bought this watch.
I am a keen runner and swimmer, who has used a GPS watch to help me train and record my activities for several years. I retired an ageing Garmin 645 that had done 4 years hard service but had begun to fail in two ways: It had lost the ability to measure altitude over the last year and then it stated that it was unable to estimate VO2 max, in spite of there being no change to my exercise regime. These oddities of behaviour were probably down to the battering the watch had taken, or possible software glitches that I was unable to resolve.
The 245 was a little more than half the price of the 645 but does everything (as far as I can judge) that the 645 did, as well as adding a couple of tricks of its own, such as measuring the percentage of blood oxygen saturation. The wrist heart monitor even seems to record heart rate while swimming, something that was beyond the 645. I think that this brilliant little watch is outstanding and the Garmin Connect App works every bit as well with the 245 as it did with the 645. It took seconds to retire the old watch and link the new and see Connect pick up the thread. I would imagine that only a professional athlete with very specific requirements would need anything more elaborate and I am delighted with this watch. Highly recommended.
Upgraded from a Forerunner 35, the biggest problem is the screen brightness, if you are in a dark room then you can use the backlight and in bright sunlight you can tilt your wrist to see the display but in between situations it’s dire.
The menus and access to them takes some getting used to, some of the screens you are presented with are a waste of time as the information is that small you can’t see it, things like heart rate over 7 days for instance, you are better off looking at them on the phone app.
You do need good eyesight especially if you have set up a training plan, I can barely see if I’m being told to run or rest.
The watch picks up a satellite signal very fast even indoors.
Other stats that you get from the watch like sleep seem pretty accurate and it does match when you sleep and wake up.
Overall don’t expect an Apple Watch display, I think I’d prefer to have a brighter screen and forgo having to charge it more often, the watch easily lasts over a week before you need to charge and it does not take long to get to 100%
My old forerunner 35 was a bit basic but if you want to get a bit more out of a running watch like making running plans then you need a watch similar to this one, overall I would recommend with a few caviates.
My other two smartwatches were an original Motorola 360, then a Samsung Galaxy Sport 2 and they were more fancy watch than sports trackers. I loaded up all the watch faces and apps and it was great.
Then when I decided to start jogging and realised I needed something better to log my distances. After much web browsing I decided on the Garmin 245. No, it doesn’t have the fancy Rolex look alike watch faces, but it does the exercise stuff really well. I’ve been using Strava and Adidas Running apps and it’s been mapping my daily excursions since the original lockdown began.
I went with one of the standard watch faces as it had all the information I need at a glance. The battery lasts for aaaaages and charges quickly too, so it’s always on my wrist. Am I any fitter? No, because it seems I have a heart condition that requires major surgery in the near future, so that was a not pleasant surprise, but it’s keeping me healthy enough.
This version also comes in a different model, Forerunner 245 music that has a bit more memory to store mp3s so you can listen to bluetooth streamed music while you hike, cycle, run, etc. I use my Samsung A52s with wired headphones, so didn’t need the extra functionality.
It’s one of the cheapest watches in the Garmin range and it’s perfect for me. Just buy a screen protector for it before you start wearing it, as I found the glass does scratch (somehow).
I like Heart rate zone training when having a cardio workout I dont feel the need to push myself too hard and if I’m not working hard enough I can speed up all by checking which heart rate zone im in on this watch its made cardio training more interesting and fun as I know exactly the effect its having on my heart i feel more in control im not just waving my legs and arms about without knowing the effect its having.
I only wear this watch when working out its too expensive for an every day watch plus im not interested in knowing my BPM 24 /7 or how much energy i have left in a day or how well i slept useless info for me and I expect a watch battery to last 1 year not seven days that would drive me mad also.
I have Amazon prime so get limited access to music I dont pay extra for unlimited music and yet I can still upload my playlists to this watch which I liked.
I only bought this watch to measure my heart rate zones so can’t go indepth about its functions but for me its so worth the money I actually work out for longer now.
Its worth mentioning once your watch is connected directly to your WiFi it will update the software if needed no need to do it via the garmin website it may take a day or two to get an update message my watch needed an update before I could add Amazon music to my watch.
I would buy it again if needed for sure.
I do love my watch. Had it for some time now and it is great value for money. Don’t really use as a smartwatch, mainly to record my runs, hikes and walks. The battery time is excellent I think. Used it last August for a 2 day hike in the Scottish mountains and used the navigation feature – uploaded the gpx file onto the watch. The GPS was on for 8-9 hours both days and it survived it (1% left). Normal days I don’t need to charge the watch often, like once in 2 weeks or so – depends on the GPS usage of course.
I bought the 245 for running and it does the job very well.
Like all devices of this type, the heart rate should be used to assess relative change, rather than an absolute value. I’m also sceptical of the 245’s assessment of VO2 Max, given the clinical method of measuring it.
Garmin forerunner 245. Excellent for running. I bought this as I am just starting back running after a bit of a layoff. This is ideal for what I need. Loads of features and training programs to keep you busy.
I wanted a 235 but had to settle for this. I am so glad I got it. This is a stress free no hassle set up and fairly intuitive to use. I hate tech but this and my Garmin 530 are changing my mind. All my devices talk to each other and record far more data than I wanted. I’m saying that I’ve now started using a lot of features I didn’t know I needed
Music doesn’t work with Amazon music , so you will have to have Spotify or apple music. It’s brilliant at a running watch it’s got more data and analysis than you’ll ever need unless your at a elite level. Overall a brilliant running watch where you can leave your phone at home
As my passion for running is growing i need to find a replacement for ky Vivosmart 4 which was a great companion to my weight loss programe. After reading so many review of so many diffirent running watches and model, i decided to stay with Garmin. I have read somewhere the review about accuracy of this Garmin GPS when runing in the woods made me a bit nevous, i asked the question to the community here but no feedback. I couldnt wait any longer then I had to place the oreder, 3 weeks in i have nothing to complain about this watch, so happy with it! Highly recommend !

Got it at 100 off the recommended price which made it the same price as a Garmin Forerunner 55 which offers rather less, although most of the extras are not exactly crucial. A simple thing, I love the strap, which will fit even the tiniest of wrists. There are lots of videos on YouTube showing you how to set it up and use the many things that it can do.
Took up running in January to shift a few extra pounds and have enjoyed it. Have tracked a lot of my runs on a Fitbit Charge and Strava but found my pace was very inconsistent even during a 5k. Wanted something to show my pace and other metrics during my run and this tucks those boxes. I opted for this watch as I don’t really have any interest in smartwatch features but this does have some useful bits and pieces such as news and message alerts that pop through. You can also edit this to suit your preferences which I really like so you can have all smart notifications off if you like. The customisation on this watch is really good. There are features on the connect IQ app which allow you to download apps and watch faces but I prefer simple so I have edited my own watch face on the watch itself which I think is a cool feature. You can also edit the screen to suit your running so it will show what you want it to rather than being subjected to metrics that are preset such as with my old Fitbit. The supporting app seems great too. I like the Garmin trainer feature and particularly value the fact you do not need to subscribe for x a month in order to enjoy. Will do all that most activity trackers do such as heart rate and sleep tracking as well as some other bits. Overall, it’s a reasonably priced activity tracker tailored for running. If you don’t want this for running, it’s still a decent watch.

Got because of good reviews and not disappointed excellent watch
Good product, can be tailored to suits any sport and gives any information you want from your workout. Battery life is good, and fully charges within and hour or two. Fully changeable interface keeps it interesting, and adaptable. Only slight issue I have is that it can be complicated to interchange some data fields but it soon becomes clear. Really good purchase, I’d recommend one. Can’t imagine workouts without it now.
It’s smaller than the 235 but has a longer battery life , on track to be 8 days off one charge , display is crystal clear , more activities are now tracked , connected to Garmin connect in seconds, picks up the satellite quicker , watch strap less sweaty ..
Bought for my partner, she was using her series 6 Apple Watch and it wasn’t lasting long before the battery died while out on our adventures.
After using a Garmin Fenix 6 myself, I recommend she tried a Garmin herself. Since I bought it her the Apple Watch has been sat in a drawer unused, she loves it! Looks great all in black too, personally I think it looks better than my Fenix. Would definitely buy again.
Very accurate and has all the features I need. Easy to use and great quality. Only slight negative is it takes a while to get a gps signal. A good bit slower than it’s predecessor the 235

Excellent tool for safe training (running, cycling, strength, etc.). Useful metrics, easy to use, super customisable, light and comfortable, best in my series of Garmins (FR 35, FR 235, FR245).
I’m familiar with Garmin watches and this was to replace a 7 year old 225 that could just about maintain 90 minutes charge (fortunately my regular run is around an hour) in “active” mode.
The new Forerunner 245 was 20 cheaper than I paid for the old Garmin, it’s less than half the weight and half the height with probably double the features. I’ve used it for my first run but am back to using it as my daily watch, it’ll be interesting to see what battery life is IRL. It still has the odd Garmin foible of not immediately picking up satellite GPS but I’ve found that to be mostly influenced by weather conditions, having said this it’s perfectly accurate and fits my needs well. Barely know it’s on my wrist and can use it to turn my iPhone’s music on and off.
I’ve never had a problem with my Garmin watches so haven’t had to navigate any customer services.

Have had a Fenix 3 for years but as I now focus on running, bought myself new Forerunner 245. Loving the insights the inbuilt heart rate monitor offers and the Garmin Coach option which is free. Super light and great value.

Highly recommend this Garmin watch (having previously owned a forerunner 35 and Fenix 6S plus, this is by far the best). Bought this to upgrade from a Fitbit Versa (thought I’d try Fitbit after always having Garmin – big mistake), and this is the perfect watch. GPS connects a lot quicker (and is more accurate), it provides enough data to improve your running, but not too much that a beginner/intermediate runner is overwhelmed! Strongly recommend keeping an eye on the prices, as it is an absolute bargain when on offer!
Great product had few issues trying to pair with phone but didn’t take long to so
Bought this watch after watching/reading countless reviews as it’s a relatively big purchase at this price point, so wanted to get this right.. Previously I have been using a Galaxy watch active which has been great, but I wanted to take the next step with purchasing a forerunner. Initially was going to go for the 55 but the 245 was reduced in black Friday so went for this. Anyway, on to the watch itself…
My first impressions are really positive (only had for 1 week) and I love this watch. Yes, the screen resolution isn’t up there with the likes of apple/Samsung, however I didn’t buy this watch for that. As a running watch, the display is clear, easy to ready and actually looks great with a traditional LCD display.
The watch itself is light, comfortable and the battery life is amazing, really. It’s lasted 5 days so far and still have over 60%!!!! Garmin have created a fantastic app (garmin connect) which is super easy to use and is nice to look at. What’s really good is that you can see a snapshot of your daily stats (heart rate, stress, body battery) etc on the watch itself, or, you can access the app for a more detailed overview. The daily suggested workouts are a really nice touch and really mix up your running routine which makes it fun to use. What I didn’t expect is how good this watch is as a day to day smart watch, as notifications are displayed really clearly and its quick and easy to respond to texts etc. So far, I have no complaints and if you are considering purchasing this watch, you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommended!!
Bought this watch after watching/reading countless reviews as it’s a relatively big purchase at this price point, so wanted to get this right.. Bought this watch for running as it has a bigger face so I can see whilst running, easy to use just not worked out all the modes yet, excellent so far.
Arrived with delivery window, great watch, would recommend, to anyone looking for a decent running and fitness tracking device.
Great service
Bought this to replace both my Garmin Forerunner 35 (which is a great first running watch, but more basic, and blocky in appearance) and my Fibit Charge 4 (which looks smart, but I find useless for running due to the small text and touch screen).
Really pleased with the appearance, and how comfortable it is to wear all day. (I even wear it all night without noticing it, which lets me use the sleep analysis function too.) Loving it for running, as I can easily see all the stats I want, and control everything with good sized buttons.
Lots of extra functionality that I’m still learning more about (eg recovery time), but also more basic functions easily visible that the Forerunner 35 seemed to lack (eg viewing and monitoring Heartrate all day, even when not triggering exercise modes).
I have it hooked up to my Polaris arm strap to monitor heartrate during exercise, for better accuracy – which was simple to do. It also paired very easily with my Garmin connect phone app using Bluetooth (which links to Strava, showing mapping of runs from the device’s GPS data), and seems to be getting software updates from Garmin directly from Garmin Connect. (Another plus point, as my older Forerunner needed hard wiring to my PC to get software updates.)
So far, I’m very impressed by the battery life, which seems far better than either device it’s replacing – despite it monitoring more things.
All in all, a great, robust, watch for everyday wear as well as for running/exercising. (And I’m enjoying no longer feeling I have to constantly switch between 2 watches!)

Great watch , for me it proved way better than Vivoactive .
Looked at lots of garmin models and other brands, settling on the 245 as it gives me everything I need as a runner. Stylish, lightweight, easy to use with plenty of really useful data. For the price it’s perfect for me.
Works great. Loads of features, great face designs, GPS is faultless. Very easy to use and collects far more data than I need as a 30 mile a week runner.
I run 4 times a week minimum and wear the watch 24/7. I find I’m charging the battery every 6 or so days.
