Perfect. Loved this game growing up, now play it with the kids
Love this game , great packaging and easy to travel with. Cannot faul
Such a fun game. I had one as a child and wanted to get another one. All the family had fun with this and it’s good as you can just do a short time if you have younger kids. Does get your brain going though!
Play with friends or on your own for a brain teaser. Definitely a must in the house and for competitive people it’s great, if you lose takes 2 mins to play another game and redeem yourself!
Also a great present with an affordable price.
Came quickly and everything was fine.
very entertaining for kids – helps the kids with learning while playing
An achievable game for all the family. Best for age 8 and up.
We got this as a stocking filler for my daughter (from Santa). She loves it and wants to play all the time. The game is very easy to pick up and definitely will be coming on holiday!
Loved this game as a kid but the travel size of this version makes it even better. I’ve even played it with my classes.
Great product to travel with and to help the little one improve her spelling. Had so much fun so far.
Searched everywhere for this game and this is the place I found it in stock and at a really good price
Item arrived on time, my kids loves it. Ordered twice.
Already have the full sized version. Purchased this “travel size” for our Camper Van – pleased we did good quality and the compact size fits well. However, the only real difference between this and the full sized version is the height of the lid.
Story: I was sat about one day rolling a bunch of dice, having a one player game of Yahtzee. I dropped one of the dice and it went under the table, so went to pick it up, but then like a complete prat, I banged my head on the table and knocked myself out.
On waking up, I was no longer in my living room. I could hear water, as if I was out at sea. There were people talking and laughing. What was going on? As I sat up, I felt my 5 dice that I had been playing with in my hand.
“Hello?” I said. The people I heard stopped talking and came to where I was laying on the floor. They asked who I was, why I was wearing strange clothing, and how I managed to get on their huge yacht. I wish I knew the answers.
After a couple of hours, and getting to know the people on board the yacht, I found out I hadn’t only been transported to a different location, I had travelled in time, back to the 1940’s. The crew were all very friendly and having a nice day out on the water, a break away from their homes in Canada. We chatted, I told them a little bit about the future, and introduced them to Yahtzee. They found it amusing and started calling the game Yacht because it sounded similar to the name of the game.
It got late and they offered me their sofa to sleep on, as they were all having a night out at sea, and said they’d take me to shore and see what they could do to help me in the morning.
When I awoke, I was back in the living room, laid under the table with my head a little sore. It was all a dream, it felt so real though. I got up from the floor and went to sit down to ponder on what had happened, when I felt my dice in my left hand, and a piece of paper in the right. I had my 5 Yahtzee dice, but I also had the score sheet that we’d been using on the Yacht, scores and names, everything.
Was it a dream? Or is it a paradox? We’ll never know.
Review: Yahtzee, a game that will last forever. You can take it anywhere, you can even make your own score sheets. Blimey friends, it’s probably the easiest game to make your own house rules to as well. It’ll get you excited when you keep rolling what you need, and it’ll annoy the hell out of you when all you want is the bonus points but the dice decided to hate on you.
A good way to define Yahtzee is poker with dice. You have your three and four of a kind, full house, and straights. It’s such a simple game but a fun genius one.
The game gives you five dice. You have up to three rolls on a turn to fill one of the thirteen boxes on the score sheet. On the first throw, you can put aside any dice you want to keep and roll the others for your second turn. After the second throw, you can keep more dice, or even re-roll any dice that you originally put aside. After making a choice of what dice to put to one side, it’s the third and final throw. Whatever you have after this, you must score, even if you have nowhere to put a score because you didn’t get what you needed, you have to fill a box, even if you have to put a zero in it.
The score sheet has two sections, the upper section and the lower section, both containing different objectives. In the upper part, it’s all about individual numbers, 1 to 6. So if you get three 5’s, you could put 15 points in the Fives box, and if you’re lucky to get four of them, you can score 20 points instead, which is very useful. After filling the upper section, add the points up, if it comes to 63 points or more, you get a 35 point bonus towards the final score. This is quite a decider so working the upper section to gain the bonus is very important.
The lower section, you have a bunch of different things to aim for. To get a Three of a Kind, you need at least three of the same dice, so let’s say you get three 4’s, you’d add them all up along with the other dice to get a total, and you could get four of the same dice and still score it here if you’ve already used your Four of a Kind, which of course, obviously, is four of the same dice and add the fifth die for the score. Easy.
Full house is three of the same number and the other two dice have to be the same of a different number, this scores 25 points. Small Straight is a sequence of four numbers in order, like 1, 2, 3, 4, or even 3, 4, 5, and 6. This nets 30 points. The Large Straight is the same but with all of the dice, so it’d be a sequence of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and so on. The Large is 40 points. All these lower section scores are really helpful to get that victory, but the real feels for just getting it is the Yahtzee itself. This is five dice of the same number. Get this, it’s 50 points in the bank. There’s also a Chance box, so if you mess up and have nowhere to put a decent score, add all the dice up and bang the score in here.
Now then, there are a few different versions of Yahtzee, even though Hasbro owns the actual franchise, there are a few rip offs. If you ever play the game online, it’ll likely give you different scoring rules to that of the physical game. The game I have has Bonus boxes for extra Yahtzee’s, but online games tend to let you place an extra 100 points in any box, which I personally dislike. Let’s say by using this rule, you get a second Yahtzee and you place 100 points in a upper section box, this guarantees you the bonus and makes the game a bit silly in my opinion.
The rule I use is the best, and makes for a more exciting game. If you manage to get a second Yahtzee, you get 100 points, and don’t use any of the boxes, it just means you have an extra turn. Plus, I don’t have a limit of Yahtzee’s a player can get, like I said, it makes it more exciting. I’ve had games where we’ve hit four Yahtzee’s and got a mega score. It might destroy the opponents, but they do have the same chances of doing it if the dice are kind, and you’re not making the upper section pointless in getting an easy bonus.
After the upper and lower sections have been filled, add both up, the highest score is the winner. Yahtzee is still a fun game if you play alone though to see how well you can do and how many Yahtzee’s you can get, but nothing beats the experience of playing with as many people as possible.
Great game and one you can play absolutely anywhere. Do me a favour, if you know someone who doesn’t know Yahtzee, show it to them. It’ll be doing them a favour in life.
Experiences: I’ve been playing this game all of my life, and I’ve introduced it to that many people I’ve lost count. I think other than Magic The Gathering, this is the game I’ve played most.
One thing I tend to find when I introduce the game to someone, they always have beginners luck and score like three Yahtzee’s. It’s a good thing, they get the taste of glory and I think the dice have a mind of their own, they like being throw. If the dice don’t let a beginner win in style, they think they might not be thrown again?
It’s also amazing how many people still haven’t heard of Yahtzee. I can probably understand a lot of the more recent games not being known to people who just know Monopoly, but Yahtzee has been around for over 60 years.
I made a tutorial video on YouTube a while ago, it’s my third most viewed video I’ve ever made and at the time of writing this, has clocked 170,000 views.
Great game for playing alone or with others. We adapt the rules to suit our circumstances & as it goes nicely in a coat pocket or hand bag I’ve been taking it to work to play on my breaks x
Excellent purchase for travelling. It is small enough to carry in a bag and is good quality. The only thing is that once shaken it can take a little while to roll the pieces back into place but that’s just part of the fun. If you’re also wanting a quiet game then I would suggest this as it is noisy when shaken. Overall, it keeps people occupied for a while especially during travelling and was fun to play.
Great game that I recently got back in to after playing along time ago with my grandparents. This new edition is more compact and easier to store, with a clever little place for the sand timer.
Nice and compact, can’t wait to play with my daughter.
+ The minimal packaging lends itself for trips and slots easily into bags and even big pockets.
+ The game is simple to pick up and accessible to all ages. You can improvise on the rules and make it unique to you. For example, extend the timer or for those lexicons out there, make it so only five letters or more count.
+ It is quick to play and easy to set up so it is fantastic for short bursts of play.
– Because you’re shaking it, the orientation of letters are likely to be different
– It would be nice to have a little pad and two pencils included but I imagine everyone has some stationery lying around.
Love boggle and this is a really cute handy size
Great little game, good for travelling or camoing. Nicely boxed.
Brought for my 5 year old grandson, better introduction to making words than scrabble, he quickly moved from 2 letters to 4 and 5.
been trying to get this for a while, found it here. great wee game. we play for hours, family fun and kids also learning, perfec
Brillant sent you my daughter had one as a child
Travel game not implied but a good game and the granddaughter loves i
Lovely game, easy to learn and is as challenging as your competition.
Only real complaint is that to stop the dice from rattling when used as a travel game you have to keep some of the packaging. This in itself isn’t a problem apart from there is nowhere to store the instructions neatly as the packaging is molded to the dice. I’ve squished the instructions in, but they are now rather crumpled which is a shame.
Brilliant travel game. Perfect size and weight and good fun.
brilliant game.
The lid is quite difficult to take off without distorting the dice inside the game (which can be annoying when playing).
But it’s a classic fun game.
Great game to pop in your bag while your travelling
Brilliant game really helped with vocabulary expansion. 8yr old loves it and doesn’t see it as learning which is a bonus!
Great family game in a handy travel sized box. Reasonable price too.
I am a huge fan of boggle and played it since j was younger so obviously I had to get it for my daughter. This being a travel one is smaller , so ideal for less space although I did love the original boogle for its size and ease of seeing. This will be a great additon to our games night so happy boggling!
Fantastic game for all the family. Easy to take anywhere. Just shake the box and go. The skill is to try and get words no one else has because if you pick the same word as anyone else playing there is no points for that word. Buy it and enjoy.
Excellent gane, seems simple but sharpens the mind for so many hidden words
Box is a reasonable size for travelling with, the cubes could do with a tighter fitting guard to reduce rattling (and beware that it’s a noisy game!! But that’s part of the fun if you’re not disturbing anyone else).
What a brilliant game. I used to have the original version when I was younger, however re-ordered it and I love the new simplistic design and packing. Handy with no big box and space saving. We do not use the egg timer though as easier to notice when we set a 3 minute timer on our phones. Great game for 3 minutes and really helps with brainer training whilst being fun. Actually has improved our Scrabble skills.
This has been thoroughly enjoyed by the kids. Its not only a fun game to play as a family but good for developing English/spelling skills too.
Just as I demented it, easy fun game to enjoy with my kids the way I enjoyed it as a kid. Helps with spelling and understanding words.
Excellent fun haven’t used it for travelling as bought it for home
Very good. Compact but easy to read the letters. Great to practice spelling with kids.
Love this game, fast paced and gets the think tank going
Exactly as it says, definitely travel size but plenty of fu
I love this game but lost my old one. Felt we needed a longer timer….but maybe its just because im older?? Fun, so much fun!
Great game, love the new version, easy to take travelling
Just an absolute fun and educational game. Fun for the whole family
Simple, fun, a game that will never go out of fashion. Great for all ages.
Great and compact. It fits nicely into my bag which makes transporting it easier. It closes well but I put an rubber around it too for extra security, which also means I can store the rules with the game. Pens not included.
I already have the Boggle game and enjoyed playing it so much with my family that I bought 2 sets to give to two other families / friends.
Really fun for young people/adults, played with my 12/13 year old. Keep a dictionary and pens/paper handy!
Brilliant compact game. Got mine when I was 13yr old and loved it. Still have it. bought this one for a friends kids.
Great present for children, engages their mind and is fun to play as an adult too
My son loves this game. Perfect for taking on holiday and lots of fun.
The box is compact and sturdy, I do find it a bit difficult to open but that said its a fantastic family game and great value for money.
Not great to travel with as the lid is so loose and everything falls out everywhere.
Would prefer a catch or something.
Decent game, I don’t like board games but this is good for a few quick rounds with the fam.
The timer is rubbish though so I took a star off for that. Use the timer on your phone instead.
We love this game. 3 children aged 11, 12 and 15 so we can all play. Brilliant family fun.
Brilliant game for learning to read or just for fu
The game arrived and we played it with the family. Good simple fun and easy to play.
bought this to play with my granddaughter aged 6 to help with her spelling, she loves being able to find words
Fabulous family game for multiple players. Excellent delivery service too.
This is highly addictive and great for passing some really good family fun time. Definitely recommended.
So lush to play with my children we absolutely love it plus there learning so much
Ideal stocking filler or birthday gift. Kept our two boys (8 and 10) entertained for ages. Competitive and encourages use of language
I bought it as a gift for my parents as they enjoy this game. So you will have to ask them if it’s any good.
This was a perfect little tip up gift, which is also both fun and educational at the same time, so perfect for entertaining little ones. Easy to travel with too, due to its packaging. Perfect!
We bought this Boggle set as a replacement for one that the dog took a fancy to, The dice are slightly smaller than the original set, but still perfectly legible. The box is a handier size and is easy to shake without risking losing your grip – a regular occurence with the full-size set.
Overnight delivery was promised. It actually took 3 days, but then it was ordered on Boxing day so I did think that overnight delivery was a little optimistic. 🙂
The game is easy to understand and suitable for different ages. Good to travel with on holiday
Bought this as a Christmas gift for my 6yrs old Granddaughter, we played this game at a holiday cottage this summer and she loved it. Very compact and will be great to carry around and for travelling. I know she will love it come Christmas.
Brilliant game and in a better container that a box that rips
Great game for ages 6 and upwards. Helps to increase vocabulary.
Great game, the kids – 9 and 10 – loved it, and we enjoyed it, too!
The grandchildren love it and it is good for their spelling of words for younger childre
Bought to take away. Brilliant game. Arrived on time and exactly what it says in descriptio
We’ve played this on the plane, on the beach, and more mundane places. Lid a bit hard to open but the up side is that it never falls off.
Game is good and helps with vocabulary. great size to take on holiday and easy to play.
Bought as a gift for an adult who loves it & was pleased to receive it.
Used often.
Ideal as it is suitable for travel too.
Arrived swiftly.
It’s just ok. Didn’t hold my teenage sons attention for very long or mine but will try again with it.
Thrashed hubby. He is not happy. I’ve never laughed so much. Love the handy size and minimal packaging.
We bought this for our holiday in May and haven’t stopped playing it since!
It’s perfect for travel due to the size but also perfect at home. We love it so much, we’ve just ordered the super big boggle & cant wait to try that.
It says it’s for 8+ but we just jiggled the rules a bit to suit this household. Adults have to get words 5 letters and above, 7 yr old is allowed anything over 3 letters and the 4 yr old practices writing any of the letters! It means we can all join in the fun.
Excellent for anyone who enjoys word games
Our family have loved this game for many years. This one was bought as a gift for our son who had played it as a child and wanted to share it with his children. It is possible to have a game in just a few minutes or to make it last longer by having several rounds. Once reading well, children soon pick up the idea and it can help to increase their vocabulary. Every family should have one!
It’s lovely just ashame I’ve been charged twice for it!
We love this and set different targets depending on the age group playing. We also keep it going longer by turning the box and resetting the timer so each player gets a chance at seeing the letters from a different angle (it makes a big difference). Can recommend for fun as well as improving kids’ word play.
What a great game played with my 5yr old and have played with other family members so much fun trying to get the best words
Someone had one of these and I liked it. I play with my grandchildren and they love it. I plan to play it slower with my younger ones and let them see if they can make up words without the timer. It is good for all ages and gets the mind active as well.
Took a while to come but it’s exactky what it says it is – boggle
Played it at Christmas with mixed ages from 8 to 89 and all loved it. Very convenient size for travelling too. Just need to remember pen and paper. Definitely a family favourite.
For adults and youngsters alike, it’s a fun race against the clock. Great for improving kids’ spelling and observation.
Nice small game which makes it easy for transporting etc.
Brought to replace an old set . Well used easy to use and store
Just like my childhood game of boggle. Enough room to put some paper and pencils in Nice size. Enjoyed by my husband, myself and six year old to have fun and a sneaky way to practice spellings.
…you don’t because you always lose. It’s a simple game. You shake the box and then allow the cubes to fall into the sixteen holes. You then have a short time to work out as many words as you can. Obviously Mrs Reviewer is smarter that me because she can always find more, sometimes considerably more than me. Words can be made by connecting adjacent letters, up, down, sideways or diagonally; some of them are fiendish. For those worried – or excited – by the possibility of certain four letter words turning up I have to tell you Hasbro are one ahead. The game is designed to make sure that won’t happen! Great fun.
Good game in handy small package to take on holiday
Love it.
Very simple and we’ll made.
It isn’t a game that we will play much yet as my sons are a bit young and can’t find too many words but they had fun trying and we’ll keep playing as they get older so it’s a game that will grow as they do.
Was introduced to this game by a friend never played it before after receiving it the grandchildren 11/16 can’t get enough of it well worth the money
Good game for children of a certain age and for adults. Arrived as expected.
Great quality, box is really cool looking and fits the timer in nicely.
Although I thin it was overpriced it is a good game and I am happy to have it.
A little expensive for a plastic box & 16 dice. But we love the game
Love the game. Borrowed it on holiday and now bought my own copy
Good for two players up. Making words from jumbled letters against the clock
Compact size means it’s great to take on holiday
For a game so small I am amazed at how much fun boggle can be. Delivered quickly and well packaged.
A great game. The child receiving this as a xmas gift loves word games.
