The jacket is holding up incredibly well so far to the cold, Canadian winter.
I wear a T-shirt underneath and stay comfortable and warm.
Any kind of water wicks right off the surface of the jacket, so you also stay dry.
The only real issue that I have with the jacket is the fact that the two front pockets are not zippered.
The breast pocket is zippered, but the two front pockets have a flap with a snap, which I found strange. I can’t help but I worry I’m going to lose something.
All-in-all, it is a great all around jacket for the price. The fact that the liner is removable is a bonus, as you have a jacket for any type of weather.
Fantastic coat, soooooo comfortable and looks and feels great. Really well designed but despite photos, if you like labels not all are white.
Great price at 100+
Oh, why is Wright in lbs!? %##%^& Americans! I’m 11 1/2 stone 5’10”
Love this jacket. At last good pull cords for hood adjustment. Too tight with lining in and why oh why the the slanted pockets with a stud to fumble with. Awful. Please replace with proper deep square upright pockets with flap and it would be perfect.
Best jacket I have ever bought. Warm and water proof. It does what is says.
Many many years ago I bought a Helly Hanson Jacket in TKMaxx. It was warm, comfortable and lasted years of wearing.
This jacket is similar. The outer jacket is made of a high quality material that simply repels water but feels soft to wear. The inner jacket is of a slippery, shiny material, rather than the usual fleece. It’s very warm but easy to take on and off as the arms don’t drag on the sleeves of your clothes when you put it on. It looks OK worn by itself but you probably won’t want to use it as evening wear.
Join the two together and you have a really nice winter coat, which is suitable for walking and hiking, but I feel quite happy to wear to work and down the shops.
Highly recommended.
What a great coat really comfortable, quality feel and there’s two of them for different weather conditions, perfect.
This jacket is awesome all around. I use this as my everyday winter coat for days when I’m not at work. Great for on the water or on dry land in all conditions. Keeps all the rain and snow out. Velcro still works just as well as when I got it. Word for the wise, when washing this jacket, make sure to close all Velcro tabs otherwise other garments such as hats and gloves will stick to this! I’ve worn just the outer layer on heavy rainy summer days. The only downside is that the hood is non-insulated. It will keep your head dry, but doesn’t offer much for warmth although it will act as a windbreaker for your head. Lastly, the drawstrings on the hood are a bit clumsy to secure them. Other than that, solid product! 4 out of 5 stars in my opinion.
Very comfortable and warm on these cold winter nights. I have the same jacket in blue and this one was perfect. Fast shipping and a pleasure to deal with.
My jacket is awesome!! The dark teal Squamish 3-1 is perfect. Very well constructed and I love the color. The liner is easy to remove to use as just a rain jacket.
I bought it as a woman’s jacket and it fits me just right. I have had Helly Hansen before and always good quality.
good fit, was on sale for cheaper at Mark’s, but did not have my husbands size left!
Fit well, like the versatility of the different components to change according to the weather. The insulation is pretty good, but I find the cold starts to get through once the temp is around -10C. Anything above this it is a very comfortable jacket.
I’ve just received it today. It is like a gem.A brilliant quality.Very light.Made in Bangladesh. It is so comfortable, as I feel like it is a custom made.About the size.I am 5’8″ and 160 lbs and I feel perfect with size M. Normally I am between M and L.So it looks like it goes a bit bigger. It is not too tight, but with enough space for free movement and freedom to wear a pullover under.
Excellent. Fits perfectly – I wear a medium. I have been able to wear it in temperatures between 55 and 10 Fahrenheit. It’s also a very comfortable jacket. I ride the train to work each day and sometimes I sit in the train, with the jacket zipped up. The hood fits very well too: both with a hat on and without. I have had issues with hoods on other jackets being either too big or too small, but this hood fits perfectly.
Very very warm, it’s nice to have the option to remove the inner jacket.
Bought this for my boyfriend’s birthday. He took it on a trip to Iceland and Germany. He said it worked great and he loves i
I have had this jacket for a while. Looks sharp and fits nice. My daughter just had a soccer game and it was pouring rain the whole game. This jacket kept my entire upper body dry. Can’t say the same for my jeans. The cuffs are a little wide for my liking but not a big deal. Overall a great rain coat.
Very well built jacket that is surprisingly warm for as light as it is. I live in the northern part of the US and it kept me warm all winter and dry. I took this on a long trip to EU and it packs nicely taking up little space. I have received some compliments on the look of it as well. This is a very good jacket that I would buy again.
I am a 200+ lbs weight lifter with a thick back and shoulders and the XL fit well on me. Some other XL’s do not give me enough room across the back but this does not have that issue.
Warm, fits great. Exactly as expected. Love the price. Helly hansen in quality stuff
Magnifica chaqueta.
Venditore serio affidabile, prodotto perfetto.
No complains about the jacket it’s just the sizing is a bit too big.
Helly Tech meanscwaterproof/ breathable outer layer. I received the jacket and someone argue if it were waterproofed, because there was no waterproof indicated in any of the attached labels. However the HellyTech mark on the left sleeve self explained everything. The one argued satisfied and I am happy this jacked works well in a Vancouver raining day. I love this product.
This jacket has very high-quality materials
Overall it fits perfectly but I purchased an M and it was a bit tight under the arms
I am 1.76 and 79-80 Kg
Excellent jacket for the price. It seems some Helly’s run small, but my husband found this to fit perfectly in his normal size. Great for all kinds of weather.
Recently bought this for my spouse. He loves it and he’s not usually very enthused by clothing. He likes the weight and thus far is still using the liner in place. As we often have rainy Spring weather he anticipates removing the liner within a month or two and definitely likes the option. The weight is nice, not one of those strange light weight, wrinkly, crinkly rain coats. Even with the warm liner removed the coat still has a lightweight liner so it is actually triple ayered. A medium is his usual size and the fit is good. Very pleased with this product.
Good jacket but a small rip on the inside pocket – needs to be sewn. Easier to sew it than return it.
it is a great jacket. it is warm and keeps you dry. the only part is that in the underarm/bicep area it is snug. it is not as bad without the inner jacket in. it also says in the description that it is fleece for the inner jacket and it is not. it is a puffy style inner jacket which makes it warm. and it is not the real thick puffy style it is thin but the insulation they use primaloft is awesome.
As newcomers to the Pacific Northwest (transplanted from SoCal), my husband and I were severely lacking in the cold-weather rain gear department. My husband needed a waterproof coat to walk our 2-year-old Pit mix every morning. The zip-out liner works nicely as a standalone jacket, providing good warmth and wind protection when it’s not raining. Combined with the waterproof shell, this setup is pretty hardy.
The outer chest pocket on the shell sports a rugged waterproof zipper, but I was a bit disappointed to see that the lower slash pockets have only one snap each to close them. The closures should keep items secured, but we’ll have to see how well this design will keep moisture out of the pockets.
Do note that the Squamish outer shell does not have venting zippers in the arm pits — I know that some folks really like those (the similar Helly Hansen Approach CIS Jacket does have pit zips). All in all, he’s quite pleased with the construction and the fit of the garment.
Good looking jacket, decent price. I would recommend if you are between getting a med. or large go with large. I’m often in between but large works well.
Capo molto caldo e protettivo.
Having owned a 200 North Face before I was a bit apprehensive about this jacket because of the price (less than 60 for the black model). But not only it was delivered before the date expected but it also exceed my expectations. It’s probably not as warm as the north Face but it’s warm enough and great for rainy days. Would recommend to anyone who’s looking for a cheaper alternative to a North Face.
Excellent jacket, fits well and is very light to wear. Recommend it for general use as it is completely waterproof.
Bought because grandson lost the same coat on the train.half the price of the origional coat great value highly recommend.
Esteticamente bellissimo!
Great color, not bulky and still very warm. My husband says this is the best coat he’s ever owned.
Very nice warm jacket and it is not heavy to wear. My son absolutely loves it.
Looks nice. The fit is a little boxier than I wanted, but it will work. Still a great look.
Great jacket, you’ll never get wet. I will buy one more.
I love the coat. So happy with the price thank you.
Excellent coat, great store – quick service. These run a little small, so if you usually take a large, go XXL.
Slightly large comparatively but not so much that it’s a problem. I love the utility of having a jacket and lining that has multiple combinations. I haven’t worn it in cold weather yet but the water proof properties are excellent. At first the shell seemed to stiff but I am breaking it in and it’s feeling less “stiff”. I think it has exceeded my expectations.
Good quality jacket, HH goods do come up a bit small, so order next size up.
Now THIS is a winter jacket. Helly Hansen is of course known worldwide for their winter wear, but so are a number of other companies in the same price range such as North Face, etc. This is my first HH product, but I can promise you it won’t be my last. This product was given to me for review and the only choice was a size Large Mens. I fluctuate between a medium and a large so I thought this would be a good test of the size and indeed for me being an in between, this item is quite large for me. What I have done though-is put a shell underneath when it is extremely cold and it fits very nicely underneath. It’s a great all weather piece as I have worn it in the rain and cold, etc. and it just works for all of them. Snow I am sure would be great. Most importantly, the zippers are all in very convenient places that make sense and the zippers are very, very good quality. Some of the North Face ones can be a bit flimsy but this zipper is very impressive.
Aesthetically it’s very subtle and nice looking. You can’t go wrong with a black jacket. You just can’t. It’s a well designed piece that runs a bit large and if you are in weather of below 32 degrees, you would need a shell or thick layers underneath but for an all purpose jacket or skiing jacket this will do the trick. I would say the perfect height for this would be 5’10” to 6′ and medium weight to slightly heavier.
Well. I had tp wait for a cold day before I could review this. It’s just what I need for walking the dog or just puttering outside on a cold day. Nice and light with plenty of pockets for stashing gloves, tools, keys, dog accessories or whatever.
The Helly Hansen brand was founded back in 1877 by–how do you like that–Helly Juell Hansen. He was a Norwegian sea captain who along with his wife designed innovative, rugged attire; decades of business growth and makeovers later, his superior brand has passed the test of time. In fact, some of the signature gear has been seen on both television and in movies; next time you watch a rerun of The Perfect Storm, keep a keen eye.
Ballyhoo aside, Helly Hansen Men’s Squamish CIS Jacket, fully waterproof and windproof, would make the sea captain proud. Creating a perfect fit and perfect look, through rain, snow, sleet and hail, this polyester jacket doesn’t lose form. Forget keeping on top of the latest weather report, regardless of what Mother Nature brings, rest assured, the jacket is constructed with insulation in mind, you will be warm, dry and ready for any harsh wintry mixes. Good construction, however, affords good comfort. And if, perchance, temperatures rise, the three-in-one design allows you to strip down to the shell. Ample pockets, Velcro-adjustable features are a few other highlighted features to make this jacket the go-to companion out of a closet chock full of outerwear.
The design of this jacket with its removable layers makes it ideal for southern US winters. In the deep south, one day it’s mild, the next three it’s very cold, the next rainy and mild again, and so on. You can just pick the layer(s) to wear, or all of them, depending on the day’s weather. On mild days you can just wear the outer shell as a windbreaker. The inner liner can be worn as a fairly warm jacket on cooler days. On cold days, you can wear both liner and shell.
Even with all layers, it’s warm without being bulky, and you can move well in this jacket. The hood is roomy enough to accommodate a cap or even a bike helmet underneath.
The jacket is very well made, with big, useful pockets. The fit is just a smidgen to the small side, but not enough to recommend switching to a full size larger than you might normally wear, unless your size is already sort of on the border between two sizes.
Like other reviewers, I’m not too fond of the logos, but it’s a great jacket nonetheless.
I got this for my son’s Christmas present. He really liked it.
This jacket is very well-made and sturdy. Despite its thick lining, it’s not a bulky coat and hangs nicely. I like many of the details such as the Velcro closures that fit over the front zipper. The front zipper is good quality as well and it attached easily and moved up and down without catching. The nice large front pockets open with a simple snap and have a felt-like lining which is nice for quickly warming your hands if you’re not wearing gloves. I also like the Velcro strips at the ends of the sleeves so you can tighten them around your wrists. Perfect when shoveling snow or other situations where snow (or rain) come into contact with your arms.
Removing the inside liner was easy– again, the zippers were good quality, worked smoothly, and didn’t snag on anything. Worn without the lining, the coat is a nice wind-breaker. With the lining, it’s much warmer, of course, but I wouldn’t wear it on extremely cold winter days.
My only suggestion is to consider ordering it one size larger than you usually wear particularly if you plan to wear it with the lining and over a sweater or other bulky item. Over a t-shirt, you’re probably OK with staying with your normal size. If it’s any help, in the Large size, the shoulder measures 20″across between the seams for the sleeves.
Excellent item and worth the investment.
Great jacket for anything you may encounter in the great outdoors.
Awesome coat……amazing customer service when dealing with an exchange!
This is a very versatile raincoat with a removable inner layer, allowing the set to be used in three different configurations. The raincoat itself is thin, and good for light to moderate rain. The inner jacket can also be used separately, and will allow warmth in light winds of fall season. Together they make a ticker, warmer, rain resistant jacket for more severe weather.
The material is all synthetic, still does not cause sweating like most nylons. The inner part of the raincoat has a mesh texture to allow breathing of your body, and the overall material is soft enough for regular use. From the looks of it, the coat should last for a long while.
The inner jacket, while can be used separately, is frankly not as good looking as the rest. But it is still nice to have the option.
Most of the pockets, and other accessories (like adjustable cuffs) are on the outer raincoat, and it should be useful for spring season. My only complaint is the lack of the inner pockets, however the internal mesh structure would not have allowed that.
Overall I am very satisfied with the design and manufacturing of this jacket.
This is a nice jacket. It is waterproof and comes with a hood so it’s perfect as a raincoat, but it also has a nice degree of insulation, making it perfect for activities like skiing or just going out for walks in chill weather. With our uncharacteristic recent rains in southern California, I had the chance to check out this jacket’s waterproofing and enjoyed staying dry. A combination of velcro and zippers really seal the seams, keeping the cold air out. There is also a zipper pocket (chest level) and snap pockets (hip level) which mean your phone, wallet, etc. can stay dry if you, like me, spend most of your ski time rolling in snow.
Speaking of the lining, this is removable, so the jacket can be used in warmer weather as a windbreaker/raincoat and not simply reserved for the cooler temperatures. Removing the lining is a simple matter of tugging down two zippers and unfastening a couple of snaps.
Maybe I’m old-fashioned (probably) but I wasn’t wild about the HellyTech Protection logo printed on the exterior of one sleeve. Still, the black on black lettering was quite subtle, so it isn’t as if I’m walking around with blatant advertising.
Like many people, I find myself in a position where I’m trying to reduce the amount of stuff I have cluttering my life. A practical jacket that does the job in winter chills and active outdoor activities, yet can be slimmed down by removing the extra insulation and then serve as a windbreaker-raincoat makes a lot of sense. As an added bonus, the first time I wore this, my wife said “hey, that looks sharp on you.” Always nice.
I gave this jacket to a male friend who is 6’2″. There was no problem with it being too short in either the torso or sleeves. It has a slim silhouette that is very flattering (no extra bulk at the stomach with crazy kangaroo pockets, for example).
The jacket is very lightweight, especially considering how warm it is. It’s two layers that unzip apart, so you can wear the under layer as a windbreaker alone or add on the thicker outer layer for more warmth. It’s too hot to wear inside, but perfect for working outdoors, and the lightweight doesn’t restrict arm/shoulder movement.
It’s got all the right zippers and pockets you want plus a hood (not-removable). The only downside to the jacket is that the two sleeves (inner and outer) are held together at the opening of the sleeve with a small snapped loop. This works well to keep the sleeve down when you put it on and while you’re wearing it, but when taking the jacket off, the snap usually comes undone and the sleeves become messed up inside. It’s a small thing, and not irritating enough to lower the rating from five to four stars. If there were two snaps on each sleeve, it would hold more securely.
The Helly Hansen jacket is what would be called a windbreaker jacket, in the past. It does an adequate job of protecting against the rain, but not so great at working in really chilly temperatures. The jacket itself is stylish, black and has the HH logo on the front. The material is light weight, water resistant. The fit of the jacket, although it was a large, seemed a little small. The family member that tried the jacket (even at medium build) had a difficult time fitting into it. If you are to purchase this jacket, you might want to buy a size larger, to ensure that it will fit.
The Squamish jacket is solid and looks very well made. With this jacket, you really are buying three jackets in one. A rain jacket, a warm soft shell and combined, an insulated jacket.
The outer shell is made with Helly Tech material, which is fully waterproof and windproof. The hood has enough space to fit a helmet. It has an adjustable Velcro tab on the back and an elastic drawstring near the collar that activates cinching around the face. It also has a slight brim, which is useful for deflecting rain, snow and sun out of my eyes. The outer shell has good pocket real estate. The front two pockets on this jacket are gigantic. They both have button snaps, which mean the pockets are easily accessible while wearing gloves.
With the Primaloft liner attached, it keeps me very warm. Almost too warm, if I’m active. It also adds significant weight to the jacket. But it’s easily detachable, so I can remove it whenever I want, creating a rain jacket, or even a hard shell that you can add your own layers to. I would love if this jacket had pit zips, but that may not be possible with a 3-in-1.
The soft shell liner is fully functional as a jacket on its own. It still has the HH logo and much smaller, but functional pockets as well. You could totally wear it around town and stay warm.
All-and-all this is a very versatile and customizable jacket, that can handle any activity you throw at it. It has fulfilled all of my expectations and more (it’s even more wind-proof than I expected). On warmer days, I find myself wearing just a t-shirt beneath the shell which makes for an incredibly light setup.
