I was doing a lot of demolition works and this Hoover sucked up every particle. The Hoover comes with lots of attachments – I’m very pleased with this purchase.
Perfect hoover! Previously had a Henry and that was a good hoover but Charles is perfect good suction! We’re renovating our home and it’s getting all the dust bits of plaster up without any problem! Great buy!
Good little machine. Used to suck up water after a major leak
Brilliant vacuum cleaner (even with hairy puppy in the house),long plug flex and not too heavy. Feels sturdy and dependable so far.
I purchased this vacuum cleaner as I had got fed up with the usual bagless models blocking their filters after every use. No point in an easy empty container if you loose suction when the filters are clogged with dust. Charles has been all round the house and the bag will last many more cleanings. Still on full suction. This is a large cleaner and I probably could have done with a normal Henry but the price was good. Comes with all the attachments you need and loads of cable. Shame the cable isn’t retractable. Wet usage may come in handy. Charles is a large and fairly heavy chap so maybe not practical for some but cleaning power is excellent.
What can I say, love it ,love it, love it, great vacuum cleaner, bought this for my cleaning lady to use on her visits, she loves it as do I, very impressed with i
L9ve my Charles!! Handy & not overly heavy but enough weight. Great suck lots of room inside. Excellent deal! Thank you
Perfect for hard floors and low pile carpets. Not suitable for thick pile carpets. Bulky but has a fantastic amount of tools that I utilise all over the house. I haven’t needed to use the wet vaccume yet.
Always buy these for my valeting company. Use everyday and i get at least two years of commercial use out of them.
Very happy with this product. Amazing suction much better than a standard Henry. Robust build unlike dysons you don’t need to worry about what you suck up and there isn’t complicated parts which get blocked or damaged. Just sad i didn’t get this sooner as world have been super useful in previous building work!
Love this Charles the morning heels make it really easy to manoeuvre
This is just a very quick review as I’ve literally just put it together and have the hall and garage a quick once over.
Instructions are very good and the parts you get are plentiful and usefull.
My hallway is laminate flooring and the last couple of days we’ve had tons of leaves blowing in everytime the door opens. I’ve just given the floor a VERY quick going over and the suction on this vacuum is mental. I could barely move the head across the floor. It got all the leaves without issue and the dust from the edges that our Kirby missed. The garage floor was covered in sunflower seed husks as a sneaky family of mice have hidden away somewhere in there and are nicking our chickens treats. 30 seconds later and the garage floor is spotless with the vacuum never faltering.
Not had chance to try the wet function yet but now I’ve said that you just know my radiators are going to burst when I’ve put the vacuum away.
Anyway, this is an amazing bit of kit. We’ve got a Kirby (it was a gift-wrapped I wasn’t gonna spend that kinda money on a vacuum), and a G-tech handheld and upright which are all brilliant. But this is ideal for the really messy jobs.
Worth every penny
I have a Valeting business and I brought this for our start up hoover and it’s brillant! Please with the product!
Wife struggling with the sucksion from Charlie, to powerful, allegedly.
We already own a Harry so we got this for our bed and breakfast. It’s the best vacuum in the world. A bit heavy to drag up and down the stairs, but that’s the price of quality. The price is ok, as I know this boy will last me years to come.
Does the job and keeps going only let down is the power cord is a pain when stored.
I think this hoover has and does what it says on the tin. The only problem we as in my wife and myself have with the hoover is that the electrical cable doesnt wind up like the henry hoover does which is much more handier.
Powerful, easy and quick to change from dry cleaning to wet cleaning.
Things to love;
1. Variable suction (controlled by a slide panel at the top of the hose section) from light, for dust, on furnishings, to extreme, for inground soot, on the carpet ( And I mean EXTREME- beware small change, earring backs & other loose floor debris)!
2. Lightweight & easily manouverable ( particularly important as I have to carry it up & down stairs).
3. Massive capacity for collection before bag needs replacing, yet the body of the unit is small enough to store away, easily, under our stairs.
4. Obvious advantage of being able to suck up liquid spills & unblock plugholes as well as standard, everyday dry dirt. (Hubby finds it useful for cleaning the wood burner out, the morning after use, too).
5. Separate lid (housing motor) -easily clips, & lifts, on & off, with no hinges, so easy access for fitting & removing bags & clearing obstructions in hose.
6. Excellent quality filter (my kids have asthma & eczema so this is vital for us as a family).
7. Fun design & ease of use- the kids are actually happy to vacuum their own rooms, without help or complaint, & have even volunteered to do others!
Small niggles;
1. I have to take final hose/tube section off to fit in the cupboard as it’s so long.
2. The cable for the plug is lovely & long but it can slip down, over the body of the vacuum, when packed away, as the only way to store it is to wind it round it’s lid/hat (a couple more ‘cable tidy’ hook’s on the lid would solve this problem- as the one supplied is not enough to hold it up all the way around).
Summary;
What’s not to love… in addition its British made- so no problems with getting spare parts, replacement filters & bags etc!
This is the best hoover I’ve used since Henry I’ve also used dyson not a fan this is a 2 in 1 very useful money well spent and strongly recommend
Brilliant vacuum better than I expected will lift the carpet so good thank you
I love him!!!
I had a Dyson before and thought that was good, but it’s not a patch on Charles!!! He nearly takes my carpets up with the dust the suction is that good!
– Powerful enough to pick up small pieces of rubble and nails
– Doesn’t get blocked up by very fine building dust
– I’ve been through about 6 bags worth and it has only blocked once or twice where the pipe enters the body, it was very easy to unblock
– Fairly lightweight for its size
– Tough enough for daily use on a building site
– Be sure to use the right bags and not the smaller Henry ones like I did (they split every time)!
– The large main filter in the body is great. Even if the bag splits, or you don’t use a bag at all, this filter stops any muck getting in the motor. It will need to be bashed clean when you empty, or better still use another vacuum cleaner to remove all the muck and dust. Put it back together and the power is back to like new again
– Decent head that cleans right to the edges of skirting boards etc.
– Makes my 350 domestic upright vacuum cleaner that sounds like Tyson seem overpriced and under powered
Well done Charles, keep up the good work!
I’ve had mine for years and still works like new. This machine is the best of all domestic hovers. (Well the ones I’ve known)
A little awkward due to stiffness of the hose but otherwise petty good with power to spare.
I love this brand. Have tried couple different hoover. Thgis is one of the best.
I had a very popular bag less cleaner before and this beats it hands down.Suction is amazing.
Tip to the wise – it’s probably been said in other reviews – but EU law now severely limits the power of dry vacuum hoovers. Go for a wet hoover though, and the loophole allows more powerful motors (1200W). Use this for hoovering the cars and the workshop – nice long mains lead means that I can hoover out the car at the front of the driveway (2 cars long) without using an extension lead. Unit rolls nicely, low centre of gravity, so when pulling around it shouldn’t topple and bang into the cars bodywork (unlike my old expired hoover…ask me how I know…).
Not got as far as filling a bag and emptying – cant imagine this will be an issue though. The only slight negative, is that the hoover comes with loads of accessories (good), but the fittings used for water vacuuming are large and bulky to store…which they will be for most of the time.
Excellent, just what we need.Good suction, and a motor that does not grate on the nerves. Looks good too.
love it! does everything i needed, when washing machine flooded floor, this worked perfectly!
I bought this instead of the Henry as the Henrys are limited to a lower power due to energy saving regulations, Charles is 1.3kw as it is a wet/dry and falls under a different category. Also the appeal of the wet vacuum mode was a positive, so far I’m super happy with it. What I love about the Numatic stuff is that it is very simple and very high quality. There are no gimmicks or fancy tricks or expensive marketing (l’m looking at you Dyson). Their stuff just works and they wouldn’t be so popular with professional cleaners if they didn’t
I also suffer from allergies so am sensitive to dust, I have never liked bagless vacuum cleaners as you constantly have to empty and clean the filters, whereas with bags you just pull the bag off, seal it and throw it. The suction is very strong and the accessories are simple but well made, particularly the brush head which is made with horsehair which keeps its shape unlike nylon bristles which are more common.
I hadn’t used the wet feature until recently, my dad was visiting and he dropped his toothbrush head down my sink. I thought it was a goner but remembered Charles can do wet as well. It took less than a minute to change into wet mode and it sucked up the whole sink trap including the toothbrush head.
My only criticisms are that it lacks a winding feature like the henry, however I have never liked the self-retracting cords as they always break after a while. Also it’s a bit bulky and large, but the plus side is that it has huge capacity. Overally highly recommended.
This thing could suck a golf ball through a garden hose…. Great build quality and worked as advertised.
This machine is brilliant . I have a Henry he is good, but Charles wipes the floor (literally). Dry it is very very effective as a vac and used in wet mode for soaking up spills and mopping the floor he is excellent. Strangely lighter than my Henry but I guess the motors have improved a great deal. This vacuum could suck the paint off a golf ball and you can calm him down by opening the vent on the hose if he gets too strong for you. I spent ages looking at vacuums and settled on Charles, I don’t regret it. I’m so glad I didn’t go for any of those famous bagless numbers that I often see at the local tip looking sorry for themselves. Numatic make strong well built machines which are easy to repair and last a lifetime. Do not hesitate.
‘Charlie’ is a great little Hoover, excellent suction massive bags so less changing, bit larger than my old upright with all the add- ons, but does a really good cleaning job.
Excellent although a little heavy. Much better suction than any of the others I have bough
Fantastic product. Tougher than any other domestic cleaner, beats my dyson easily. Brilliant with pick up after building work and lifesaver when it rained and we had no roof. Have owned Vax, Dyson, Samsung … To name a few, highly recommended
and yet to clear blocked sink lol deserves 5 stars for performance so easy to change over for wet functio
Brilliant bit of kit, helps me do my job a lot
faste
Have purchased several vacs mainly for garage use, most of which are not fit for the use. This “Charles” is great the suction is the best I have ever used
just what I expected, quick delivery and very well packaged.
Love this although it is quite light and does topple over when I am pulling it around corners!!
Somehow a smiley face on a vacuum makes you like it more or perhaps call it by name. Sad but true and numatic must know this with the Henry and friends range.
Charles is very competent vacuum with brilliant flexibility. On researching vacuums slightly more having read gripes resultant from the EU regs change limitting wattage power, discovered that industrial or wet/dry vacuums are excluded from the regs. Consequently can only assume Numatic have not needed to fiddle with this vacuum and have stuck to an evolving model and motor. Charles is very flexible and competent with the rubber suction foot in wet mode being extremely competent and useful for changing a mopped wet tiled floor into a streak free dry floor with ease. Really really useful vacuum cleaner and added items such as a long power cord add to the ease of use for stairs etc. Only actual gripe is the absence of a cord rewind that exists on the Henry’s but this a minor point on an otherwise excellent vacuum.
I already have a Henry,so got a Charles as it is wet and dry, shame the cord does not wind into the head as Henry’s does.Great hoove
Charlie is my best friend Thank you he is perfec
I haven’t yet tried the wet use though.
Extremely efficient and powerful in both wet and dry modes. One of the best purchases I have ever made.
As good as the rest of the Numatic family in regards to performance however Charles is quite clumsy to handle and not as agile as Henry & Hetty, probably due to the extra size and I never thought I’d complain the hose is too long (after other cleaners being too short) but just seems to have quite a swing when vacuuming…Have to be mindful of customer’s belongings on display etc but all in all, fits nicely in my car, doesn’t tip over quite so easily, light to manoeuvre and sucks the carpets out the grippers…perfect! Ordered on a Sunday for next day delivery (a bank holiday) and wasn’t holding much hope it arriving until the Tuesday and so I was amazed to find a delivery man knocking my door bank holiday Monday…Well done Amazon, brilliant service!
Right, putting that to one side now I am going to tell you how good it is.
I had the Numatic Henry HVR200A (the older model Henry with a high and a low speed setting on it), and to be fair that is a superb Hoover too, but I wanted one that could pick water up too, so i started doing my homework …
It had to be a Numatic as I really rated the ones I have used before.
The only thing that was bugging me was that my girlfriend had recently bought the Hetty model, and the suction just didn’t seem anywhere near what my old HVR200A was, so I rang Numatic up.
I was right, the new ones are much less powerful than the old ones – due to silly new E.U. Laws/Regs believe it or not.
So the new one I was going to buy HAD to be better than my old HVR200A; this one is …
If you want my honest advice, DO NOT BUY ANY OF THE NEW MODEL DRY PICK UP NUMATIC HOOVERS AS THEY ARE HALF AS POWERFUL AS THEY USED TO BE – DUE TO THE E.U. – but what I didn’t realise is, until I rang Numatic again, is that the new laws on vacs DO NOT APPLY to wet vacs – and this model is classed as a wet vac – so that’s the way around it if you are obsessed with the suction power like me; This vac has one suction speed – INSANELY POWERFUL !
My advice, don’t mess around with the new models with around 600w of power, when this one is TWICE that, and it’s only about 30 more, AND it also picks up water.
It is an absolute bargain, and a absolute beast of a Hoover, and for the price I paid off amazon it is so much better than a fancy Dyson.
The Dysons are much more technical/better looking hoovers, but the key to this model being so damn good, is its sheer simplicity.
These hoovers are pretty much bomb proof and there is very little to them, which makes them so simple, and so brilliant.
I hope you trust what you have just read, and thanks for reading my ad.
I thought it was going to suck the carpet up. Having survived with a hand me down hoover for the last 5 years, we decided to make an investment in a new hoover as part of a house move, where we’d be decorating and renovating. It should be noted that we weren’t prepared to spend much more than 100 on a hoover and had no requirements for a small / light hoover model.
We’ve owned this for around 2-weeks and used several times – although have not yet used for wet use.
So far, it’s really impressed, it’s a really tough hoover and literally sucked my carpets off the floor the first time I used it. There are several attachments that make using this for a variety of jobs a doddle.
My only caveat would be that it doesn’t suit a small house / flat, it is cumbersome and needs ample space for storage but if you’re after a hoover that is cheap, very effective and no-nonsense, this is your model.
Great little hoover for all outdoor cleaning. However, had to cut off internal buffer to prevent clogging when picking up garden refuse, leaves, twigs ,etc. Works a treat. Recommended.
Very large packaging so be warned it can take some persuasion to get into smaller doors, but actual box is much smaller. Item works well, this is my second Henry and i love them 🙂
What a great vacuum cleaning system! Super built to last quality. Great HEPA filtration. Multi tool kit. Wet and dry pickup. Very powerful 1200 watt motor. Great at picking up dog hairs too. I bought this while it’s on a 20% off offer for 128.00. Absolute bargain! My only criticism is there is only a single hook to store the flex on which doesn’t really do the job. I have wrapped the flex round the bucket base and put the plug on the hook. Putting a round flex tidy reel on top around the handle to wrap the flex on would have made it much more practical. I also have a Henry dry vac which winds the flex into the top, but I think new safety and power efficiency regulations are fazing this system out, along with the 1200 watt motots. Most of the new model numatic vacs only have 500 to 700 watt motors. But apart from that I can’t fault it. Get one before the old stock 1200 watt versions are all gone! Made in Great Britain too!
Charles is brilliant. My washing machine broke last night and I had to empty all the water inside. And Charles was a star!
Very pleased with Charles. A very useful piece of equipment for cleaning the kitchen floor. Has become a popular member of the family!
his great I was worried he was going to be too bulky & heavy but he is neither. and he came quickly with the simple to understand instructions & the long lead is a dream. Love him
Far more powerful than expected, did a great job of sucking up water and drying the floor at the same time. Most impressed, i hope its not one band by Brussels. Thank you for a quick delivery
Good suction but thought this hoover dispensed water too, instead it only sucks up water or spillages so it won’t do both simultaneously which is disappointing. Otherwise good hoover and good value.
Excellent product and service- a used item and good value. It was as described. I kept my original stainless steel pipes and was glad I did . The new metal pipes are light and cheap and the extension pipe slips from the hose end, when in use. The hose is not so robust as the original, but it is longer, lighter and easier to use. I hope it it lasts as long as my last vacuum cleaner from the company. I had a reduced item bargain and I suspect it was returned only because of the extension tube slipping. I could see it had been used slightly. I recommend this product and seller. This is a British made quality product.
Two days later a filter on one of the aquariums malfunctioned turning the exhibit into a shallow pond. Out came Charles and after a couple of hours we were back open to the public. So far so very good!
Strong and robust, this is our 2nd one that’s how much we like it and its used in our pet shop daily. Would strongly recommend this hoover.
It’s effective and does the job on carpet and wooden floors. A good price for the item, and it was a cleaner who recommended it.
Haven’t yet worked out how to use the wet option though, it’ll need some study of the manual, ie not super-user-friendly.
It takes up quite a lot of space for a hoover.
Best suction ever! Large bag, will contain loads of rubbish, very long cable and a great selection of attachments. I had a Dyson for 2 years (upright) and hated it! Glad I’ve now chosen a good old Charles. Would definitely recommend!
Have used a Henry before and was impressed by there capability to lift bigger bits up, now wanting something with the possibility of lifting wet stuff I saw this chap. On the dry again can lift quite large bits up.
She is very pleased with the product and it is perfect for her needs and requirements. She would thoroughly reccomend it.
It has immensely powerful suction and a generous power cable that extends approx 20 feet, so very useful if wanting to hoover from one room to another without having to unplug the cable!. Comes with all the essential parts such as vacuum bags and parts to do the wet cleaning, so no extra purchase necessary – only the floor cleaning liquid not supplied. What I particularly love about this hoover is the fact that it has a generous long hose assembly that can be adjusted to any height you prefer, and a floor tool brush that glides effortlessly on rugs and carpets.
Although I am yet to use the wash tub facility, very simple to put together so no instructions are necessary: parts just slot together with ease and pretty self-explanatory without having to refer to a manual for instance. This brand of vacuum by far the best on the market and they do last years if domestically used and parts replaced every couple of years. The character of the Charles just as stunning and capable of all tasks as the George and a lot cheaper to buy too – you definitely get your money’s worth with this vacuum cleaner and because it outstrips the performance of even some of the most top brand regular ones.
Great design, does the job perfectly.
Recently used to suck up water from my washing machine to drain it.
Excellent.
very good – product as described delivery very prompt
This is the 2nd Charles we have had the first died after 3 years hard work in our watersports centre. Charles II is even better – sucks like a demon!
one definite point against this cleaner: (i found this with a previous Numatic cleaner, too.) the tubes assemble by pushing into each other, and they are difficult to push into place, and really difficult to get off again, especially if you have slightly arthritic hands. a simple twist and click mechanism would work so much better. the flex is extremely long, which is good, but does not retract into the cylinder, as some of the Numatic cleaners do. the various cleaning heads are well made, although the rubber-edged one for wet cleaning looks a little flimsy; time will tell whether it stands up to rough stone flags, etc. however, all the parts are easily replaceable from Numatic.
on balance – and assuming it keeps working as well as it’s done so far, i think this is a good buy. i’d prefer the tubes to assemble much more easily, and i also found the top, which houses the motor, quite difficult to fix in place: the push-in ‘ears’ don’t push in easily – they have to be practically kicked into place! these may seem small quibbles, but they all add up to extra expenditure of effort. please take note, Numatic!
