I love this water bottle because it actually does help me drink more water. The lights are really helpful and I love that I can hold myself Accountable with the app. It’s been a worthy investment for me. So much so, when I lost the first one, I bought another!

Makes tracking water intake very easy

The bottle needs to be stable so does not work in car or plane but the app is set up easy for manual additions

This is my second one- sadly I left first one in a hotel room. I’ve had it for a couple of years. I love the Hidrate 17oz. They are tall and slim- the taller one was too tall for my liking- 17oz is perfect. I take it everywhere I go including to work daily. My kids were getting on me about plastic water bottles- I used to take a plastic water bottle with me everyday- everywhere I went, now I’m doing my part for the earth with my Hidrate and I’m saving money. Love it!

And absolutely fantastic bottel. I use it wherever I go, its so brilliant. True to spec, actually keeps your drink cold for 24 hours. Putting ice in your cold, the ice will be there long after 12 hours.

Glow reminders are so bright you can’t really miss it. Connecting to the app was a bit fiddley at first but after that worked like a dream with the amazing app. Gives you loads of detail on how you are drinking throughout the day, customisation on different colours and just works very well.

Actual size of the bottle is a few milliliters small than advertised but of screw cape requirement but isn’t a big deal breaker. Though would advise considering a larger size next time.

Bluetooth connectivity is fantastic. Its not required to be connected to your phone constantly, only connects when needs recording and disconnects straight after without any interuption with your others devices.

I don’t even look at other bottles anymore as this one is so fantastic

    Best bottel eve

Easy to use & stylish but quite pricey for what it is. Would be nice to have some features such as setting times when the light wouldn’t illuminate (for example sleeping hours).

Bought this because I struggle to drink enough water and audio reminders just don’t seem to work for me. It’s been a great help, however sometimes it says the battery is half full but it’s not recording anymore. I also made the mistake of not emptying it before adding more water and I think it just skewed everything. Would be great to have a manual ‘refresh’ button on the app. Otherwise, love it. Also, the reminders on my phone are very charming and quite amusing.

Overall very nicely made product. But the puck comes loose way too easily and can fall out multiple times a day. i.e. just by placing bottle down and picking it up again. If you’re happy to put up with that then the rest of the bottle is very sturdy and well designed.

Genial.

I’m very pleased with this water bottle I use it on a night, I’ll fill it up with water from the fridge and add ice and when I wake up the next morning the ice has not melted and it’s still cold, the water stays cold for more that 12 hours this was important to me as I like my water very cold. The bottle design is great and stylish and I love the chug lid you drink from is very comfortable, The app is very easy to use and easy to set up, it tracks my water intake and I have had no problems, being able to customise the colours is a great feature too, overall I’m very happy with the hydrate spark steel water bottle I don’t think I would use any other brand. highly recommend.

Great water bottle if used properly , had to get used to drinking the water that is recommended as it turned out I was drinking a lot less than I should be, so every time it lit I drank the water and now I’ve lost weight and feel better for it.

The steel bottle is quality. Easy to open, fill, clean, and drink from. Good size too and the way it illuminates is always cool. It also does exactly what you expect. So long as you keep it calibrated, it measures exactly how much you’ve drunk in a day. The problem is the app.

Because it’s “smart”, it gives you a daily target based on your personal stats, the weather conditions, and (apparently) how much exercise you’ve done if you’ve connected it to your smartwatch.

Great idea, except when it decides to change your goal at 10pm because the weather has got warmer. Countless times I’ve been about to hit my target just before bed (and therefore maintain my streak) only to discover they’ve added another litre of water to my day’s target.

A LITRE! At 10pm at night!

The choice then is to cheat (you can add manual amounts), lose your streak, or ensure you’re going to be getting up all night because of the stupid amount of water you’ve just knocked back to win a trophy. It just seems a bit too smart. A cut-off at around 5pm would be so much better. At least then you’d have a chance of drinking any increased goal rather than going to bed on a bladder the size of a children’s swimming pool.

Wonderful bottle let down by a stupid “smart” app

I love this water bottle! It keeps my water very cold, which is the most important part for me. The next most important thing for me is remembering to drink my water. This was exactly the product I needed! My water intake has more than tripled since finally decided to buy my Hidrate bottle! The only downside is, if it tips in my bag it leaks a minute amount but nothing that would ruin the contents of your bag, and it doesn’t give a push notification for a low battery. Perhaps I just haven’t found it in the settings yet! I highly recommend this bottle! 🙂

The bottle is great! It really encourages me to drink more water. I originally ordered a blue one but it arrived without a charger so I sent it back, which was easy to do. I then got the pink one instead as it was on offer, and I am very happy with it.

This bottle is for the busy or forgetful person that literally needs flashing lights to grab their attention and go “Hey! Drink more water, now!”, because that’s exactly what it does!

If you’re thinking “how could anyone possibly be that oblivious?”, go get one of the cheaper bottles with time or inspiration markings, sure. If you’ve tried that and it still doesn’t help you remember, this bottle’s for you! Sure, it’s expensive, but compared to the inconvenience of even a single UTI or faint and fall in a public space…

This really does keep your drink cold *all* day! Great if you’re drinking something like a green juice which tastes much better when cold and you don’t have a fridge handy.

I’ve been using it about 6 months now and love it. I took off a star because the custom glows are a separate in-app purchase, which should just be included with the bottle, it’s kind of heavy, and the battery life could be better. The low battery warning is very small and only in the app, it would be nice if there were an option to, say, give a quick yellow flash after a sip if you were below 40% and red if under 20%, or when you put upside down in the dishrack. The charging cable’s device specific, so you’re not likely to have it with you, and a warning it’s low after you’ve already left home for the day isn’t that useful. I’d like to know on the bottle if I need to charge it that night to be ready for the morning.

Great bottle and app. I’ve been better at drinking water than ever before in my life, BUT listen to the reviews that say the puck drops out of the bottom of the bottle and gets lost. I read the reviews that said the lighted battery/bluetooth receiver puck wasn’t secured well but I didn’t listen. You think you’ll be able to keep track of it but you won’t. Luckily, you can buy just the puck on the manufacturer’s website. If you plan to do anything with this bottle besides move it from home to your workplace and back, you’ll have to throw some packing tape on it.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersUPDATED I bumped this to 4 stars based on the exceptional customer service I received after posting my review. Shortly after my review was posted, their customer service emailed me and offered to send me a new bottle to replace the part that had broken and caused the poor synchronization issue. A new bottle was shipped and received quickly, and it’s now working well. I’m impressed with how quickly they reached out and how easy they made getting a replacement sent. However, I can’t help but feel it shouldn’t have broken so easily in the first place, and the other issues I mentioned in my initial review regarding lack of customization remain.

I purchased this after having bariatric surgery and needing to make sure I don’t get dehydrated. I can only drink a few ounces of water every hour, so I need to make sure I remember to drink throughout the day to stay hydrated because I can’t guzzle a bunch of water to make up. I’ve only been using it a few days and it has already stopped working. The puck at the base is loose and if it comes undone then the data doesn’t transmit to the app.

Regardless of the bottle breaking there are some serious design flaws with the bottle and the app. I thought the reminders on this bottle would help make sure I keep drinking throughout the day, but you’re limited in how many reminders you can set. You can set it to give you twelve reminders throughout the day or give you reminders only if you’re behind on your goal. I was hoping I could set a reminder for every 15 minutes throughout the day, which should be simple to do, but is not an option. I also don’t like that the goal is set for you, and would at least like the option of adjusting the goal myself. Also, a small sound notification to accompany the glow reminder would be much more helpful. Unless the glow is constantly in your line of sight, it isn’t very effective, especially since it just glows briefly and then stops. At a minimum it should glow until you pick it up and drink.

In short, even if it hadn’t broken after a few days use, the lack of customization makes this little more than a standard water bottle with a high price tag.

I love my bottle but the only things I’d say is that the puck on the bottom falls out really easily and it sometimes doesn’t light up when it should. Also the measuring is a bit temperamental, sometimes it’s okay but a lot of the time it’s completely off.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe HidrateSpark STEEL (now called the PRO) has really helped me drink enough water. You’d think you would just drink water when you’re thirsty, right? But I have found I just don’t feel my best if I don’t drink enough water throughout the day, even though I’m rarely thirsty. And you’d think that you could just track your fluid intake with an app, but that’s just another thing you have to think about.

The bottle (along with its app) solves my hydration problems in a few ways (along with just things I like about the bottle):
    1. It just knows when I take a drink and updates the total in the app. I don’t have to think about how much I drank.
    2. The app tells you how much you should be drinking, based on your weight etc, and adjusts automatically based on the weather and your activity level. I don’t have to think about if I should be drinking more water because it’s hotter out or because I was more active than usual. You can of course manually adjust the goal.
    3. I can check the app (or on my watch) to see if I’m behind and need to drink a bit more to stay on track for the day. You set your waking hours and it will glow or send you a notification only during that time (and I always take a few sips or check and try to catch up when it does), but more important is that the app tells you where you should be at that time along with where you are. This helps me to stay on track to drink enough water long enough before I go to bed that I don’t have to get up in the middle of the night because I tried to meet my goal right before going to sleep. The app also tells you how many days in a row you’ve met your goal, and the higher that number gets, the more I’m motivated to make sure I meet my goal every day.
    4. It’s a great size and is easy to carry. I have the 21oz and my wife has the 17oz. They are not too big and they fit in a car cup holder. The bottle also feels solid and well constructed, and the lid has a little lock slider so it doesn’t open accidentally. I added a little carabiner to the carry strap so I can clip it onto my belt or onto a bag so it’s even easier. You can also mix and match the components, i.e. the sensor puck, the base body, and the lid are all interchangeable, so if you have the chug lid but decide later you want the straw lid you can just buy the new lid and swap it out. The same for the body if you want a different size or color. Much cheaper than buying a whole new bottle assembly.
    5. The base is rechargeable. You do have to take it out and use the magnetic USB charging cable that comes with the bottle (it’s not a micro USB on the side of the bottle), but it is so much more convenient than replacing button cell batteries.
    6. It’s easy to refill, just like any bottle. The lid comes off and you fill it up like a large cup!

I started my smart water bottle journey with a HidrateSpark 2 off of eBay, and I fell in love with the concept (and their app). Enough that when I heard they came out with the rechargeable bottles (instead of button cells) I was more than willing to spend $70 on a water bottle. I mean, that does sound like a lot, but for me, it is well worth it for wellbeing and convenience. I advocate that anyone who has trouble staying hydrated get one of these bottles, or at the very least try to track your drinking using their app because it is just so easy to use.

I take my bottle wherever I go. I have it nearby when I’m in the house, and I always take it with me when I go out. Even when I broke my phone so it wasn’t tracking, I still took the bottle because it is just a very nice bottle and very nice to drink from! If my bottle were to get lost or destroyed, I wouldn’t think twice about buying another one or even looking for alternatives; the HidrateSpark PRO is just that great.

Edit: Well, I have to dock myself some points given I didn’t try to reset the sensor, which ended up fixing water tracking/registering. I’ve changed the rating to 4 stars. The good: it seems there’s no competition out there, Hidrate is the best at smart bottles, and it does do the job – automatically tracking your water intake, and this version does keep my water nice and cold and the ice lasts. The bad: I still feel that for $70, things should work automatically without having to go through troubleshooting steps. The app is also a little janky, mainly in the user interface. Basically you’ll notice a lot of little things that feel lame, but not enough to take away from the fact that it does the job you need it to.

I hate to leave a review like this before hearing back from support, but given this is a $70 product that you hope works immediately and easily out of the box, I’m going to share this. First, I’m a competent tech nerd, so there is no user error issue here. I followed all of the instructions and online support documentation for troubleshooting. Problems: battery never fully charged (showed solid green) after 4+ hours of charging, supposed to be a ‘few hours’ and I also saw 2.5 hours. I tried it anyways to see if it was working. I was able to connect the bottle to the Hidrate app, calibrate the sensor puck, control the glowing of the sensor from the app, but it would never register any water I drank, no matter how little or how much, and I was sure to test drinking a lot of water. I followed all of the instructions on how to let it calibrate after drinking, connecting to the app, troubleshooting, recalibrating, etc and I even removed the bottle from the app, and started all over again. It is also supposed to glow when I take a drink, and that doesn’t work, so it seems to have 0 clue of when water is drank. For $70 I definitely expected better. Instead, I had to waste time troubleshooting, getting zero results, contacting support, and now waiting for support to reply, and probably if I’m lucky waiting for a new sensor to be shipped, and then hoping it works the second time. I will bump up this rating if I get good support and this thing works in the end, and works without problems over a longer period of time.

I got the app first and then purchased the smart water bottle later. They both help to make you drink more water which is a good thing. I measured the volume of a glass I use. I would say that the bottle does not measure the water I drink as accurate as I would like. So this needs some improvement. I like the coloured lights setting on the app. You have 5 solid colours and one multi. These lights come on to remind you to dink. Whilst that’s good I would have liked a tone or vibrate as well. You can purchase an upgrade to the app to add other colours, but at 4.49 it’s way too high. Other than that I really love the product.

It keeps the water cool, it send you reminders during the day and the battery lasts for up to 2 weeks. You can also manually add water intake.
I am very pleased with it, I would recommend it to anyone.

This Hidrate stainless bottle is well-made and feels a substantial, quality product. If recording your water intake is important, then this is a seemingly accurate, indispensable but expensive tool. The associated app is informative and easy to navigate. The LED base – with its customisable animating ‘glow’ – is an attractive, if rather geeky, feature!

The only downside in use is the rather disappointing battery life if you like your bottle to ‘glow’ more regularly to remind you to take more H2O onboard. Having to remove the base section to recharge your bottle every couple of days is a design flaw – unless intended to remind you to clean your water bottle! The battery unit base, however, means you can’t submerge the whole bottle for hygienic cleaning! Only the cap can be dishwashed!

Ideal for the Health & Fitness Nerd?

I am a cook and so I have a hard time drinking water. With this water bottle, it will light up when I do not drink the water. It has a good battery life, not the best but not the worst. The app is also nice. There are different things that you can do with it to change the color that it flashes to how often you want it to flash. I have run into a problem of it growing black mold. If you don’t fully dry it after cleaning in just 2 days it will grow black mold. I also HIGHLY recommend that you clean the top of it every week too because that is also where it seems to grow. I took a star away for that because of how easy it is for the mold to grow. I left it for 2 days (no cleaning) and mold grew. If you plan on not using it for a while dry it completely and leave the lid off of it. Overall I LOVE it and would defensibly recommend it to anyone and everyone!

I love this water bottle! I don’t drink much water. In the past I have mostly had diet Pepsi and tea running through my veins. A couple of months ago my husband bought this for me and I have been drinking a lot more water since then. Regardless of all the cool techy features, I just like the style of the bottle and the comfort of drinking out of it. Keeps stuff cold for ages. I like being able to see on the app how much water I have drunk, and I also like that it flashes me with a beautiful nagging rainbow whenever I fall behind.

This bottle has made it easy to keep up with drinking water without having to input a bunch of data into an app. Overall, this bottle has rehydrated my life by giving me more energy due to my increased water consumption. Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI had a Hidrate Spark 3 and was quite pleased and I found myself drinking water more regularly. I decided to get a Hidrate Spark Steel as an upgrade as I use the Spark 3 so much that I thought it would be justified. I didn’t quite realise how much better a metal bottle would be and it makes water taste much fresher and stay cold for a long time (where the Spark 3 would perhaps stay cold for an hour). This means that I find myself regularly reaching my drinking goal.

I’m a huge fan of the new lights on the bottom, it is much less noticeable to other people around and being able to pick from a selection of colours is very nice. Although. to have *any* color, there is an in-app purchase which I don’t have any problem at the moment with because I’m happy with the 6 colours that are free so far, but it seems a little bit annoying as I’ve already spent all this money on a bottle.

I find myself having to charge about every 2 weeks which I find alright, but it takes multiple hours to charge which is very irritating. During that time, I find myself going back to my Spark 3 as a backup bottle whilst I’m waiting, but I have found charging overnight works.

The app is a little bit janky, especially on Android, I have found it a hell of a lot better now that I have switched to an iPhone.

In summary, I really love this bottle. It’s a great investment for anyone who would to drink more water, but it is a quite expensive solution considering that a good quality metal water bottle could do a good job, but having an app that keeps track of how much you drink really keeps me motivated to drink my goal every day.

The water bottle itself, is stellar. It’s well insulated. Meaning, you can keep a hot beverage hot or a cold beverage cold.

It even looks really cool (I don’t really care about that sort of thing, but it is a bonus). The bottom unit which houses the processor, battery, etc lights up. The colors kind of remind me of Razer’s keyboard. They’re vibrant and bright. You can even change the colors.

So far, I haven’t really delved too deep into the software of this, but suffice to say it was super easy to sync up with both the hydrate app and Fitbit.

Amazing product. After calibration, I found it really accurate and it reliably syncs with the iPhone app. No problems!

Love this, I had one already, this one I have brought as a spare because they have just came available on amazon.
Lasts ages the battery & very easy to charge the puck. Keeps water nice & cold. The app works great on ios & apple watch. Best move this company did was make a double wall drink bottle, I did have the Spark 3 but hated how it didnt keep water cold but this steel one does, it goes with me everywhere. I have a pink one as well, its a very bright pink.

I love all the changes made to enhance this product from the way it is charged to its tracking on the app and more. For me, it will help me drink more water!

Compared to its competitor Thermos (lasted less than an year), much better finish/quality and syncing perfectly with Fitbit . Battery lasts atleast 2 weeks. Easy to use app. There is no ugly looking sensor going into water hence hygienic. Highly recommended! If possible, buy the larger version, this one requires frequent filling.

Works as described, keeps me on-track with water intake each day!
I use this with a Fitbit Sense, the apps work very well together.

Great product, loving it so far. Syncs well, and in combination with other apps, helps give a well-rounded view on health & fitness. A luxury but really nice to have!

Golden Review Award: 382 From Our UsersMy review is quite long, but I think if you’re going to spend $60 on something like a water bottle it’s best to know what it’s all about. I’m also writing this review from the perspective of someone who had the Spark 3 prior to picking up the Steel. This will also help those deciding which to get if you don’t have a Hidrate bottle or are upgrading from one of the originals.

    What is Hidrate Spark?:

Water bottles designed to track your water drinking automatically with a sensor. It’s attached to a bottle and tracked through their app. Set up is easy and bluetooth is required. The app is fairly straightforward. It’s not the most visually appealing but it’s very functional. For Apple users: the app syncs with Apple Health and will adjust the amount of water you need to drink when you record an exercise which is really awesome. It will also record other drinking data in Health. *Unsure how it functions on Android/other devices.*

How Hidrate Spark Steel is different from the Spark 3:

    – Insulated bottle, keeps the water colder for longer. Hidrate highly advises against putting hot liquids in it. I have had very warm liquid in it but would not put something like hot coffee in it.
    – You are able to put ice in the bottle.
    – Customizable (from the app) LED glow. This has been relocated to the bottom of bottle from the center of the bottle, like the prior Spark models.
    – Option for size of bottle. The Spark 3 comes only in the 20oz option. The Spark Steel has 17oz and 22oz (only available off the Hidrate website at the time of purchase).
    – Option in the type of lid, with a choice between a pour lid or with a built in straw.
    – Rechargeable, unlike the prior models that require a battery.

    Comparison Review:

I really think this comes down to a rather niche preference on choosing the Spark 3 over the Steel. If you perfer the more colorful bottles, glowing middle, more stable on a table (more details below), slightly better grip due to rubber mid, rechargeable or quick battery swap, and/or an extra 3oz of liquid space without paying more, then the Spark 3 is for you. One thing I would like to add, that was intentionally not included in the list, is that the Steel feels much more durable. By no means are any of Spark bottles durable enough to be dropped on the regular and be fine, but the Steel seems like it can take a hit much better. My Spark 3 dropped on to a wood floor at home and developed a leak. I replaced the messed up part (the bottom rim) and the bottle still had an inexplicable leak. It was very frustrating.

    Review:

The Spark Steel is a good improvement over the prior Spark 3 model. The insulated steel works as well as any steel insulated bottle would, minus putting hot liquids in it due to the sensor. The sensor is located in the bottom of the cup, unlike the Spark 3 where it’s a beam going down the center of the bottle. The sensor is a puck shaped device that can be unsecrewed and removed from the bottle of the bottle. This is only done to recharge the puck or when washing the bottle. The puck is responsible for measuring the water in the bottle by weight, and also the contains the LED lights. Every time the puck is removed the bottle it has to be recalibrated (through the app) which can be annoying, coming from the Spark 3 that only had to be recalibrated on rare occasions. The battery life on the puck is very good, even on settings with max energy consumption. It usually lasts about 10 days before recharging is needed. The charger is a USB cable that has 4 pins that seems to have a weak magnetic lock to connect on to the puck. One of the oddities of the new puck sensor is that it always seems to be a tad unbalanced when you put it down. This was intended by Hidrate. The puck has a spot on the bottom of it that is slightly protruding to allow the sensor to measure the water. This takes a little getting use to and as long as you set it down like you would any other bottle/cup it will be fine; it won’t require any extra precision.

The glow of the LED lights from the puck is very bright but not obnoxious. If you just wanted to show it off, or just for the fun of it, you can set it off from the app. There are also several other convenient glow settings within the app. There are a handful of preset colors that can be changed around, with my personal favorite being the rainbow color scheme. One of my biggest issues is actually with Hidrate and not the Spark Steel itself, is the choice of LED glow options. While there are several preset options, the lack of user customization options for the glow is a let down. Hidrate actually put out a survey on if you would pay to be able to customize your own glows. This is ridiculous and certainly should already be in the app for free, especially since it is a minimum of $60 to purchase a Spark Steel.

There are multiple options for the lid but I have not used the new straw version so I can’t review that. However, the pour lid is very similar to the Spark 3 except with one small complaint. The button to open the lid interferes with mouth piece on the pour opening. This is overall a minor issue. On very rare occasion, when I’m not paying attention, my bottom lip ends up resting on the button and water leaking from the bottom of my mouth when drinking. This is likely not a problem with the straw version and is avoidable. The button to flip open the lid (spring loaded) has a lock on it. I personally don’t see the benefit of it but may stop a toddler. My only other minor complaint with the lid is the carrier strap. It works but can get bunched up due to its width. I enjoyed the Sparks 3’s strap better, but this is a really very minor complaint.

The option for choosing the size of the bottle was a nice addition but I am disappointed that the base size doesn’t match the size of the one-size Spark 3 for the same price. The 22oz is only $5 more at the time of purchase off the Hidrate website only.

Their are not many color options compared to the Spark 3 for the bottle, and quite frankly I only found two colors remotely attractive. This is just a personal opinion. I did really enjoy the bold colors of the Spark 3.

Durability is a concern of mine with all the Spark bottles. The Spark 3 had unexplainable leak issues with not only me, but other reviewers had similar issues. As far as the Steel goes, it does seem more durable but the shiny enclosure for the LED puck looks fragile and may easily crack. The remainder of the bottle looked like it could take a beating, but I would HIGHLY advise to keep the bottle out of rough conditions (outdoor sports, hiking, etc). Really I would say only use at home or in an office.

Overall, it’s the best smart water bottle you could buy but also the most expensive. It works incredibly well and I’ve found it to be very accurate. It won’t be perfect but it’s close. To those who have not used a Spark water bottle before: each time you drink or fill it up the bottle needs to be put down on a flat surface for a few seconds to measure the water in the bottle to record. If it appears to be inaccurate, recalibrate the sensor. I haven’t had any real issues with adding ice to mine as far as the accuracy of it recording my water intake.

For me my water drinking has significantly improved since purchasing the Spark 3 nearly a year ago. I use to drink more coffee in a day than water. If drinking enough water in a day is an issue for you I would highly recommend this product.

    Edit: Spacing, titles, and ordering
    Edit 2: Spelling and clarity
Edit 3 (3/16/2021): Well Hidrate finally did, they added microtransactions to water bottles. For $4.99 you can customize the LED glow to two colors blends. I truly think this should be free and this feels like a money grab. It also doesn’t let you customize the whole spectrum of the glow but only the combination of two colors. I hold to my opinion that this should be built in for free.

Additionally, they have released powdered supplements that can be added in the bottle which goes against their own directions of use. I have not tried them and don’t plan to. I get my supplements in other ways and don’t plan on changing that up. I also think they have a steep price tag of $27-$38 for 16-32 servings. This may interest others but for now I personally won’t be buying into it.
