Good product and works us you one would expect to work
For the 1 st time! we have been away and our pot plants are not dead
My mains water pressure caused the 12mm tee pieces & 90 elbows to fail I have had to use clips to maintain integrity
This is a fault that should be fixed
As the system has to be left when the customer is away from home!!
Ok package came minus the main tube but we got in touch with hozlelock and they sorted it. I have used this system for about 4 yrs in my greenhouse now, Replaced my old green house and worried I would not be able to still get it . Also have the same system watering my patio plants and raised bed . Hope they keep supplying
I set this up to go away for a week and so far it has performed well,it comes on at sunrise and on at sunset and gives the pots plenty of water. The only problem i had was the noise in the pipes in the house which was a vibrating noise due to the flow restrictor this was cured by turning the water supply down at the tap as the pressure was to strong .so far so good I am very pleased with i
Best thing , we never have to water again its magic
Was dubious as you can only have the water dripping for an hour at a time (there is a manual override button for extra watering) twice a day. However we were away for a week during the latest heatwave of 30oC + for 5 days and when I came home everything in pots was alive and flourishing. The sensor to switch the water on at dusk and dawn for an hour is perfect. I put more outlets on the bigger pots and even though the water dribbles out enough is delivered in an hour. Only thing I found, and it’s my fault, is if the supply to the box is too high it makes a pulsing sound. So I tuned the tap down the pressure regulator in the kit balances everything out again. Simples, get one, ditch the watering can.
Excellent product for keeping patio pots watered whilst away from home.
After the initial set up – It has changed my summer evening – I can now make sure the watering is being done and not walk around every pot in my courtyard.
Great product – No regrets – Well worth the money.
Having a south facing rear garden the pots on my patio used to dry out very quickly as due to work commitments I’m not always able to water each day causing stress to the plants.
Having this system from a trusted brand has been a godsend as my plants are noticeably healthier as they are getting watered each day. Once I worked out how I needed my system it was fairly easy to set up (although my design was a bit awkward so I did need to pop down my local garden centre for some added connectors).
Once set up and switched on I just left it to do it’s thing and only made adjustments when the weather changed dramatically – increased frequency and length of watering time when the temperatures climbed and decreased when they reduced.
Seems robust and not to difficult to adapt to your situation and layout. Involves making holes in the main tube and cutting up the little one, so difficult to re- jig if you change your layout.
This is a great item. A few more hoseclips would have been helpful as had to purchase additional clips. There are no instructions other than the diagram on the box but managed to work it out.
The sensor controller works a treat. IT turn on at sunrise and sundown. I don’t know how I did without it before now. It is an excellent product but time will tell whether it will stand the test of time!
The system is great and good value BUT be aware that External Taps are normally at a 45Deg angle from vertical… the Timer attachments therefore protrude a good 6ins from the tap once connected… more if using the Hozelock twin adaptor to allow for a 2-zone system. I have been unable to find an adaptor on any UK site to fit to the existing tap, enabling them to mount vertically. Take this into account when thinking of how they will physically appear and the space they need to prevent the tubing kinking and intefering with the water flow.
I bought this to keep the garden watered whilst out of the country for a couple of weeks. There were no instructions (other than a simple diagram on the back of the box) but once I’d tipped all the bits out and had a rummage through it was fairly self evident what went where. The only real question I encountered was how to terminate the large pipes which I eventually decided just to cable tie seal. It does take a bit of time to set the system up but after two weeks away all my plants were still alive. I was surprised how quickly I used all the hose but there was enough to get me up and running. I will have get some extra hose to make a more complete system though.
So I spent ages looking at the various options available and didn’t realise that there are in fact 2 different systems – the Classic – This one and the Easy Drip system which is a newer version and not totally compatible with this system.
This only became clear when I rang Hozelock who incidentally were very helpful and I’d recommend contacting if like me you have specific queries or concerns.
I made a scaled plan of the garden, worked out the pressure and what I would need and then added up the total required. I calculated that using separates the total came to over 127. I also calculated that the price of this kit would be 88 if buying everything individually. 51.10 then seemed like a bargain and Amazon ultimately seemed to be the cheapeast place to purchase this from too. This didn’t provide complete coverage for the entire garden but in theory provide enough capacity to water all my Pots and some of my Strawberry Plants in the Border and wasn’t much more expensive than the Timer would be on it’s own and this seemed to be a fairly good timer too. Ultimately I really didn’t know how well it would work and whether it would be any good for my garden and pots.
Some tweaking was required and there is still leakage on 4 of the 5 joints where you pierce the large hose to connect the smaller hose. Also some of the drippers became dislodged whilst away but overall I’m pleased with the system and it also means I don’t have to continually water pots every day either.
What I did realised is that larger pots require at least 2 drippers, my smaller hanging basket was actually over watered with either dripper but being a Fuscia it didn’t matter it certainly hasn’t died which it very nearly did last year when not watered enough when away!
I didn’t realise all the drippers were end of line except if using in the bigger hose but I made it work and got round this problem. It did mean however that I used all the hose.
Ultimately I will probably now purchase some additional adjustable drippers for both smaller and larger pots and possibly some additional hose. The majority of pots however seem fine with just a single dripper and setting the system to come on twice and watering for 10minutes each day. Obviously the frequency and duration will depend on how big pots are and where you live and of course the Weather which you can’t do anything about with this system it will water regardless. You will need to set this up before you go away on holiday so you can tweak it to your own particular setup and obviously spend some time thinking out how you’re going to lay it out so you get maximum out of all bits provided in the box.
In retrospect I’m glad I went with this first because it is substantial enough and flexible enough to water a variety of pots/plants and even borders.
I’m thinking of labelling up the Hose, Pipe and drippers before I put it away for the Winter otherwise I won’t know what went where when I come to re-assemble this next year!
Keeps Popping it the joins so daren’t leave on while away
I’ve been using timer controlled irrigation for years, this Hozelock system upgrades/renews my set ups. Great for hanging baskets and wall pots, essential for greenhouses tomatoes & cucumbers. I wouldn’t be without it especially when on holiday knowing the watering is working. This timer with it’s preset dawn/dusk feature is another step forward in plant care. I highly recommend it.
To make it do what I needed, once I had got it in place I order extra items. More hose, more connectors and strippers were needed. Sorted now and works well.
The programmer is excellent and versatile but setting up the pipework is tedious. Found that some of the push in droppers leaked slightly and the elbows and tee fittings had to be reinforced with tape, Once set up it did the job.
Although I’ve given 4 stars actually once up and running amazing – just took me a bit of time to figure it all ou
System installed in an afternoon to cover both hanging and standing pots/baskets. Together with existing ststem installed to cover main garden beds we can easily leave home and know our plants are being watered whilst we are away. The system was so easy to install. it was so good we invested in an other pack for the front beds, pots and hanging baskets.
UPDATE 5/7/19: The included pressure valve still seeps water out the vent hole even after I vaseline’d it up, and the water hammer/vibration issue sporadically continues, so I will be trying a Hendrickson Pressure Reducer next to see if this fixes things. [END]
Being an impatient sort of chap, I grabbed this from my local garden centre as I just couldn’t wait for a Prime delivery the next day. I’ve had it hooked up for a few weeks and we’ve only had one issue with it. The Sensor Plus controller works brilliantly, and at the moment (July) it’s coming on around 21:00-22:00 at night, and around 05:00 in the morning. The only issues I’ve had are the Pressure Reducer leaking, and a problem with Water hammer, which makes the pipes vibrate like crazy and has even managed to wake us up of a morning – hence why I know what time it waters in the early hours. So I was concerned if I let this carry on, that we may end up with an issue with the pipes as it’s quite aggressive in both how it feels on the pipes and how it sounds.
So I decided to contact Hozelock. Now I saw a review on Amazon which was dated way back in 2015, and that reviewer had the same issue and Hozelock sorted them out with a different pressure reducer which fixed the problem. I’m guessing this is the Hendrickson Pressure Reducer that Hozelock now sells, but sadly they’re not willing to give these out any more, they just suggest buying it.
So this is what they said “Water hammer occurs when the valve in the tap does not sit correctly and the vibration from this causes the noise. It can be resolved by changing the washer in the valve on the tap (you may need to consult with a plumber if you are not confident in doing this yourself) alternatively an easier solution would be to purchase a Hendrickson pressure reducer.”
My understanding of water hammer is different, as it typically can occur with a valve shutting off quickly like with Washing machines, so rather than get into a scientific debate of what the hell water hammer is, I just went ahead and changed the washer but this did nothing. So they then said to replace the whole tap valve, and it was at this point I thought I would just replace the whole tap instead for a decent Pegler one. This still sadly didn’t fix the issue.
However, I had also mentioned to them about their pressure reducer leaking, and they said “The current pressure reducer will be leaking as inside the top there is a white valve. If you unscrew it and remove the white valve, and then lubricate it with some Vaseline, this will stop the water from coming out.” So I Vaseline’d her up and the leaking stopped, woohoo! It also seems that this might have fixed the water hammer type effect, but time will tell as it annoyingly can be rather intermittent. I’m guessing the air that it was letting in to allow it to leak, might have been the cause.
If this ends up failing and I have to purchase the Hendrikson Pressure Reducer, I will update this review, but if you hear nothing more from me and you also have a similar issue, check your pressure reducer isn’t leaking and fix that first before anything, it might save you a load of money/time changing tap bits that you never needed to do.
The whole kit in general works great though, and it saves so much time watering every night. We can safely go away on holiday knowing all our plants will still be alive on our return. Not sure how you can quite get it to do 25 pots, as I ran out of ‘t’ connections, so I’ve ended up buying some extra bits and bobs to allow the fun to continue. So maybe grab some extras just in case, like the Hozelock 2784 inline dripper which will save on all those ‘t’ connections. Now to go try our Claber Aqua-Magic solar watering system and see how that fairs for our front plants. Never ending fun here! 🙂
We bought one of these for the greenhouse while we’re on holiday. Setting it up was easy, we used the t splitter at the doorway of the greenhouse and sent the 15mm pipe either way around the greenhouse and from these 15mm pipe we took our 4mm feed pipes. We did have to buy a couple of extra elbows so we could do the shelving we have at the far end of the greenhouse.
However, I noticed on the back of the instructions it talks about capacity of the system, and using the calculations provided suggested the maximum number of drippers we could use was 13, barely half of the quoted 25.
Initially I installed 13 and tested the system, and on looking at one of the drippers it says it delivers 4L/h so I installed another 5 drippers. On retesting the system still appears to work ok.
The joints have a tendency to weep, especially the fittings that fit into the pipe by means of the spike tool. We managed to nip these up as much as we dared but they still weep but it is minor.
The timer appears to be decent quality and is easy to set up and works flawlessly. I had thought maybe 1hr twice per day would keep the tomatoes moist but after a couple of uses I think 10 minutes morning and night is more than enough given how much water is delivered.
All in all a very good, easy to use system. But while I understand flow rates will impact performance, if could be made clearer from the outse
It has been excellent to keep my plants watered whilst away on holiday . I did have to watch the video on you tube so that I could connect it ok but once seen it was straight forward to do
It took a while to work out how to assemble – however, we are very pleased with this and it works a treat. It saves me watering each day as we have set it on auto watering. Brilliant for when we are away. We’ve bought extra parts to extend the number of pots that can be watered too. Very pleased. Highly recommended.
Being able to set it to water at sunrise and/or sunset is very useful. Setting it up could be a bit fiddly for some, but I had no problem. Take your time and be patient.
There are plenty of additional accessories available for this system and they all work very well.
One issue was a horrible loud noise that resonated throughout the house. Initially I thought that is was the timer, but it wasn’t. It was the pressure regulator. This is a very simple design and the valve inside it charters. Maybe it might be worth Hozelock redesigning it to eliminate the noise?
Anyway, the fix is to remove it entirely, remove the rubber seal from the irrigation hose connector and replace it with the filter from the regulator, making sure that the dome on the filter points towards the control valve. Its then possible to regulate the water flow by means of the supply tap. The operation is then silent.
Glad I got the much cheaper one. As when the school hols came up I noticed it was almost double the price.
found it confusing and quite fiddly. Not used it yet due to the water problems this summer.
Does exactly what i needed it to do.
Very easy to assemble and operate.
Really got us organised in the greenhouse so we can go away. Kept everything alive til we got home.
Cut the stress of worrying if all our plants and fruit trees on our patio would die while we were away for a few days, worked really well
An excellent system and very easy to set. Very easy to add on without needing to undo everything!
Great product works fine would be good if you could reduce the flow to individual droppers to account for some small pots
Excellent product easy to install. Did need extra tubing and sprinklers though.
A good system, easier to set up than seemed likely at first. Just be careful not to cross the threads of the plastic fittings; don’t force things.
I’m irrigating tomatoes and peppers in the greenhouse very satisfactorily now, and the system worked well for three days when we were away from home.
Brilliant piece of kit. Easy to set up and has kept my greenhouse plants water extremely efficiently.
Will be moving it to water my hang baskets outside now they are ready.
Great product, works just as expected. Took a little thought to set up but once I’d worked that out it was very simple. Setting up the timer is easy too but don’t make the mistake I did in thinking that the ‘7’ means 7 day a week watering, it means once a week, plants nearly died of thirst!
This was reasonably easy to install in an afternoon, and does the job.
One minor gripe is that it can be tricky to get a good seal between the main tube and the connectors to the small-diameter tubes thatfeed the drippers, leading to some leakage where the main tube is pierced (that’s not too big a deal, given that the whole thing is in the garden). The drippers are non-adjustable, and I would have preferred the adjustable ones to fine-tune how much water an individual pot gets. Those can be bought separately, but it would have been nice to include with the kit – who has pots that are all the same size?
Good quality – it is Hozelock after all, works well and easy enough to put together. Timer is easy to set and override option good for top up watering if needed. You will need to plan well: where to lay the main 13mm ‘distribution’ tube and attach the various sprinklers/drippers. I ended up buying quite a few more bits to achieve coverage of raised beds and pots but it works fine. I used a two way splitter (with control valves) to separate the two sides of the garden. Ended up with a good self watering system but overall it turned out pretty expensive – it is Hozelock after all!
Excellent buy. It kept all my greenhouse plants alive during the hottest week of the year when I was away, and it saves a lot of time watering. I have added another 25 drippers to the kit and some extra supply pipe and it is all working fine. I run the system for 5 minutes twice a day and that seems to do the trick. The only teething issue was some minor leakage between the tap and the unit and the unit and the pressure reducer which was solved with some Ptfe tape.
Okay, but I am now changing all the drip heads for easy drip micro drippers so that I can adjust volume for each watering poi
As described – arrived on time – worked what more can you want?
a greatly received xmas pressie for daughter and son in-law
Did the job well all plants alive on return from holiday
This answered my watering issues when we are away and now I leave it on when I am home too. I’m very happy with this purchase and have 16 pots and a hanging basket linked to it, spaced over 25m.
Very good and easy to install once you can understand the extremely small photographs. I would certainly recommend it. I shall discover when I return from holiday if my tomatoes are in good shape. I am confident, having trialled it for two weeks prior to my departure.
Its an automatic watering system that works well – what more can i say!
I have used Hozelock automatic watering for years and this an updated version with more sofisticated timer.
