Right to repair

You bought it. You own it.

Once you’ve paid money for a product, the manufacturer shouldn’t be able to dictate how you use it – it’s yours. Ownership means you should be able to open, hack, repair, upgrade, or tie bells on it. But it’s common practice to refuse to make parts, tools, and repair information available to consumers and small repair shops.

Manufacturers have created a monopoly on repair

When there’s only one repair shop around, prices go up and quality goes down. Companies have every incentive to drive up prices and drive down competition. Don’t let them. Become part of the iFixit community. Together we can fix the world!

a

Save the environment

We make a lot of e-waste

When electronics end up in landfills, toxics like lead, mercury, and cadmium leach into the soil and water. The electronic waste problem is huge: More than 48 million tons of e-waste are produced every year. Even when recycled, a significant amount of electronic material cannot be recovered. Critical rare earths are present in every single electronic device you own. 99% of them cannot be recovered for recycling.

High energy consumption, radioactive waste, destructive mining in informal mines where child labour and deaths of mine workers often occur, civil wars in Africa – mining and manufacturing is destruction. Making products last longer just makes sense – repair and reuse are our future. We need to make electronic products last longer. Repairing is sustainable, saves money and protects the environment. Every cell phone repaired is one less that needs to be manufactured. Fix your phone and your computer when they wear out.

All the stuff you will need for the little fixes in the house in one place. Expensive to start with compare to a lot of brands, but everything is good quality (especially the bits). Worth it opnce and for all.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve toyed with buying one of these kits for far too long; thinking will i use it? get enough use out of it?
Answer was YES which is why I should have bought it years ago!

Quality is top tier especially as this has the metal driver and is so smooth to spin while holding the cap, A great selection of bits – Bought originally for the SSD change on my Steam Deck to ensure I did it properly I’ve build plenty of PCs over the years and always use my other tools and always feel too clumbsy and large for small intricate jobs so hence my wishing I had this years ago.

Really nice that it wraps up and packs away well for storage and ensure nothing is lost, Magnetic tray is a great idea to make use of the lid – Really well done iFixi

Love this toolkit, it gets used multiple times a day at work. Mainly used on Laptops, handy tools to open the bottom panel or remove the monitor.

Excellent bit of kit, great build quality and comes with everything you need to disassemble and reassemble most electronics.

Ordered mine to strip down, clean and apply new thermal paste to a 2080 super GPU and with this kit, it was a breeze.

Highly recommend for anyone into building their own PC or a gift to anyone into the same.

Great set, can fix anything so far. Good quality materials but had issue with suction tool, thankfully fixed it by pouring boiling water on it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersExpensive but a great little kit. Plenty of cheaper kits are available but they are not a patch on the quality of this. The driver has real weight and is precise. Ideal for fixing any electronics. Complete easy to use set. Everything you need to tear down and rebuild is in here minus a soldering iron and multimeter. Don’t hesitate just buy one you won’t regret it.

I use this to repair everything from phones to portable consoles to pcs.
It comes with everything needed and also comes with parts to open ps5 xbox and more.

Parts are very high quality and arnt cheaply made. The bits are also magnetic.
    Would recommend.

I used this to open up the Razer Blade 15 2022 – QHD 240Hz – GeForce RTX 3060 – Black to insert additional storage and to change the RAM. This contained the right bit requried to open up the back of the laptop.

Rating it a 4/5 because it is a bit pricey. It should be a bit cheaper.

I bought this as a gift and when the person reveived it, they first comment was OMG you paid so much for this. A few weeks later and they were saying to me how wrong they were to misjudge the value as the tools were so much better than the ones they used before. I highly recommend these.

The kit contains most of the commonly required tools for taking gadgets apart. Not yet sure of the durability of the screwdriver bits but should be ok as long as excessive force is not needed. The online guides that ifixit publish are excellent and show which bits of their kit is needed for each task.

My 10yo bought this with his birthday money. He is an up and coming tech specialist. He loves it and has helped out a few phones!

I’d put off buying this kit in favour of cheaper ones, but after de-threading screw heads and breaking the screwdriver I bit the bullet and glad i did. The kit has everything I need for repairing laptops, desktops, servers etc.. Tightening the screw our unscrewing a tight screw no longer feels like i’m going to end up with a point instead of a screw head :). The screwdriver is nicely weighted and feels good in the hand would recommend.

Has pretty much all the bits you would need to repair any small electronic device(had to open an old Apple Mac the other day and it even had the bit for that!)

I wish it included the larger handled screwdriver as well, but thats just nitpicking! 😀

I love this kit. It’s great quality and very versatile. I love the feel of the screwdriver and that it has so many heads. Also the plastic picks make opening devices really easy and damage free.

I used this to repair my iMac, the only thing missing was a splitter to remove the screen. Once removed the tools where extremely useful.

  19. AngeliaTurman says:

The included tools are of a good quality, with an excellent range of screwdriver bits. You’ll find everything you’ll need to open most consumer electronics within.

The price is slightly high, but the tool replacement warranty makes up for this, as do their many online repair guides, which are free to access.

    I’m impressed.
A lot of really useful parts, packaged into a nicely laid out, well designed, kit.
The only thing I would improve on is the labelling of parts/bits so they are easier to identify at a glance.

The suction cup in this kit looks great but doesn’t hold anywhere near enough – compared to cheaper ifixit suction cups it’s no where near as good. Overall I would recommend the kit however, especially the screwdriver bits. Have had several ifixit kits and find them great.

When several of my Nintendo Switch controllers started suffering with “drift” I decided that instead of replacing them, I’d try my luck at repairing them myself. Of course the first thing I learned is that I didn’t have the necessary tools for the job, and I remembered hearing that iFixit had their own kits. I work in the tech industry, am aware of iFixit’s excellent reputation, so I was confident that this would be a purchase I wouldn’t regret. Within a few days of recieving the kit I plucked up the courage, and followed iFixit’s guide to open up my controllers. I found the screwdriver to be very comfortable to use, and for my first repair I also used the opening tools and the angled tweezers, which were all excellent. I particularly like that the toolkit lid doubles as a sorting tray, which helped me to keep track and make sure everything went back in the correct order. I’ve now successfully repaired three Switch controllers, and I’m looking forward to any opportunity to open up the toolkit again!

    Excellent compact kit.
Metal tools are good quality and plastic components like spudgers are pretty solid, (sometimes a little flex is good).
Good selection of screw bits. All kept very neatly together in plastic box with magnetic lid and additional tools all wrapped with nylon case with velcro.
I have used it for a blue ray laser assembly replacement in ps3 and disassembly of a broken clock radio.
    Can recommend!

a little expensive for how much tools ifixit pro kit provides for the price but overall a great solid quality compact product! best price would have been no more than 45, instead it goes around 60 – 70 here in the UK

Great wee kit, bit. pricey for what you get but its a sturdy box and they have a great warranty. which ahould. make up for it in the long run. (This kit has a metal bit holder/handle). If any criticism at all its that the bit identifiers are hard to make out on the foam.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIt would have been five stars, but the suction cup was deformed and wouldn’t hold. I read on a forum to soak it in boiling water and that did the trick, but when I pay this much for a toolkit, I don’t want to have to do this.

The tools are excellent quality. There is a huge array of bits that stay firmly in the driver. The tools and the case feel sturdy and great quality. I would recommend this kit to anyone looking at repairing electronic devices.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI bought this just over a week ago, and so far I’ve already used it to open up and clean my nephew’s laptop, and open up and repair an old Panasonic sound bar. There are tools inside for almost every conceivable use, and a few that I don’t even know what they’re for.

There are driver heads for almost everything, and a few I don’t recognise (perhaps they are for some proprietary screws used by some manufacturers? I don’t know). These heads are all on the small side, so you won’t – for example – get a larger-girth Phillips head bit, but chances are high that those are the kinds of driver heads you already have an ample supply of. They are magnetic, though, decently so. I was able to pull out some reasonably long screws from a laptop entirely with the magnet, and they didn’t fall.

Unfortunately, the driver bits have some kind of non-standard, narrow shank I’ve not seen before, so I can’t use them with my main ratcheting screwdriver or any other socketed screwdrivers for that matter, so you’re stuck with using the screwdriver that came with the kit.

The screwdriver itself is… fine. It feels nice in the hand and is made from metal. The blue top freely rotates, so you can hold it steady with one hand and rotate the driver below with another, and the grip is well-textured. It’s on the thin side, so if you’ve got a particularly tight screw you might fail to get much purchase, but I haven’t had problems so far. It also comes with a flexible extension, allowing you to unscrew things at weird angles in hard-to-reach places.

The driver set is contained in a very sturdy ABS case. The lid is firmly held on magnetically, and the whole case attaches to the fabric container via a magnetic plate. When the case is removed, you can slide this magnetic plate out of the fabric kit and use it to keep screws in place.

Other tools include various prising tools and spudgers, several different sets of tweezers (which all feel impressive to use and very sturdy), an anti-static wristband, and a suction cup (which I haven’t had cause to use yet, so I don’t know how effective it is).

Everything in the set feels very high quality. I don’t see any of it wearing out any time soon. It’s a fantastic kit and should have almost everything you’ll ever need to perform electronics surgery on your gizmos. A little on the expensive side (including a small soldering iron as well might have sweetened the deal, and would make this kid ‘complete’), but you get what you pay for, I suppose.

I use the screwdriver part of the tool set almost daily, I have been repairing some 1930’s french movie projectors and they use a very narrow slot in their screws, this set fits where my regular set is to thick. I haven’t damaged any of the tips they are very strong and I’m glad I bought the set. I haven’t repaired any phones lately but I now have the tools when I need to do the work.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBought this set for an upcoming PC build. So far I’ve used it to take apart my laptop and to build an entire PC. Unless you work with mobile phones daily or other electronics then 95% of the contents will probably never be used, but it’s nice to have a comprehensive set regardless. The Philips screwdriver is pretty small and useless for a proper PC build however.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI finally got my replacement item and it came in a box with a sleeve etc. The first one i got was just the kit in a plastic bag, which had a tool missing. This makes me think Amazon shipped out some returned item as if it were new, so watch out the iFixit kit should be in a box. i wouldnt have known any different if i didnt have to request a replacement item. The one in a bag even has a sticker stuck to it saying “new item” too. The screw bits look a lot neater in the replacement kit too. So either it was used or they have a supplier doing some a bit strange with their stock (it was a sold by and shipped from Amazon order).
