Wanted this for a mess free pepper mill, can’t stand all the pepper grinds in the cupboard with others. Comes as a pack of two so I used one for rock salt. The salt sticks to the grinder in the top and eventually it just grinds and grinds with use and ends up as powdered salt which sometimes ends up all over you’re dinner if your not careful. Need to remove the salt build up quite frequently. Pepper mill is great.
Not cheap but by far the best salt and pepper mills I have owned. Easy to use, sturdy and don’t clog. Spend the money for quality goods will save in the long term
I have tried a wide variety of different salt and pepper mills over the years, but these are by far the best I’ve ever had. I was tempted to purchase them when they were on offer and I really like everything about them. They are very easy to fill and to use (once you realise the salt and pepper come out of the top, at the edge).
I’ve spent years buying and trying salt and pepper grinders, and I bought these based on a Which recommendation, and I think they are the best I’ve found. Clean, easy to use and adjus
I had become fed up with pepper-grinders, at home or elsewhere, which you have to turn and turn and turn, but still very little visible pepper comes out.
This one can be set easily to grind fairly coarse, which is the way I happen to like it, and two or (max) three turns gives you a lot of ground pepper already.
Easy to fill, fairly neutral aesthetically. Excellent.
I have not yet tried grinding salt.
Really good although slightly gimmicky regarding being able to change the coarseness of the salt and pepper.
easy to fill and easy to use but you can also have fun watching people try and use them for the first time!!!!
These salt and pepper Mills are a neat little set from Joseph Joseph.
The bodies are matte and provide a good grip. The colours are neutral enough to blend in with most kitchens and they sit upright so it gets rid of the salt/pepper debris that normally collects at the bottom of the grinder due to it being bumped when the mills are put back.
There is a little metal disc that you can twist on each mill to control how fine you can grind your salt or pepper. From personal use, we have found that this feature is more effective for the pepper (whether you want the pepper properly cracked or a finer powder).
Would recommend for anyone looking for a new salt and pepper set which are sleek and modern and also looking to stop rogue granules from accumulating on the countertops/shelves. High fashion.
To start with i didn’t like the feel of these items as they were slightly ‘sticky’ as a material – and they were very static – so attracted lots of small bits and bobs to the surface – but as time has gone on it seems to have lost the static and i have grown more used to them – so overall I am pleased. The quality is wonderful – the mechanism seems sturdy and well made, but maybe they need to just take a further look at the surface material…..
Great design. The bowl seemed a little deep at first but I like it. It holds a lot for less table space. It’s very heavy, feels like metal, but I think it’s plastic. The paddles hang perfectly on the inside of the bowl without falling in and getting dressing all over them. Without the paddles, the bowl would look pretty ordinary, but together they look modern.
Rather expensive but well designed and easy to use. It has the facility to select how fine the grind is so is useful in the kitchen and looks good on the dining table.
Great salt and pepper grinders. Holds slot and easy to use. Can get a little bit mucky around the edges if your kitchen is warm, but easy to wipe clean. They are much more convenient as they don’t leave salt and pepper everywhere like other makes
Amazing products! I have struggled to find a S&P shaker that does not leave sea salt or pepper everywhere when not in use. Really good quality and the fact you can select the fineness of the salt or pepper is really good too! Well done JJ!
This is a good design, and leaves no salt and pepper on the table or work top. Easy to fil, easy to operate. The pepper grinds well – but I have yet to find a salt mill that truly grinds and dispenses salt well. This is one of the better ones though.
I was a little nervous when I ordered this. At nearly 4, it was not a purchase to be made lightly. Mealtimes will never be the same. In front of guests, a small but deft twist of the wrist and I can dispense granules of varying sizes; from dust to chunk. Combined with a circular clockwise or anticlockwise rotation of the lower arm, and salt or pepper is distributed across my meal in just the right quantity to not only enhance the flavour of my food but also my dining experience. Stray dust when static is no more thanks to an ingenious design feature which I’m sure will be the topic of many a mealtime or dinner party in the future. You need this.
Felt light & top heavy when removed from box, however delightfully weighty when filled. Larger than I expected. Very easy to fill, no longer spilled peppercorns as you attempt to avoid a central spindle! Different technique, with traditional mill you hold upright, these you hold more horizontally with the top angled downwards, and just a gentle twist. No mess on the work top & to paraphrase Alan Titchmarch look very sexy in my new kitche
Update: 2.5 years in – still going strong and just as good!
I’d been looking at a similar salt and pepper grinder design to these for ages as ours had a knack for leaving salt all over the table. Although the other design is lovely I was concerned about the longevity of them, especially as they’re quite dear (similar price point to these).
We already have a couple of Joseph Joseph items, all of which have lasted well, so I was pretty pleased when these came out! A trusted brand and all that. They’ve only been in use for a couple of days but they’re really easy to fill and use.
I found it a little odd initially as the salt tends to come out of one side (although this does now seem logical when I wrote it down…) They look and feel lovely – good enough for every day use but equally happy on a dinner party table.
This is the second set I’ve bought, but we love them and are durable, easy to fill / use and clea

I don’t know why I’ve just given 4 stars. The items are of excellent quality & easy to use.

The salt and pepper mills are very sturdy and easy to fill. Adjustment can be made to the amount of granules that flow from the mills.

Smart and practical. Easily adjustable for coarse to fine grind. Downside – the adjuster for grind size is a little loose to the touch.

Great style and easy to use. They are a good shade of grey for the pepper and cream for the salt. Recommended.
