I recently purchased the Learning Resources Botley The Coding Robot 2.0 Activity Set for my 3.5-year-old son, and it has exceeded my expectations in every way!
Despite the recommended age being 5+, Botley 2.0 has proven to be an incredibly engaging and age-appropriate introduction to the world of coding for my little one. The 78-piece set is thoughtfully designed, offering a variety of colorful pieces that capture his attention and imagination.

It can be frustrating when the kids don’t understand how to work it, but Botley is a hit once they figure it out! We set up obstacle courses, and my 4-year-old son and I worked to get through the challenge together. Now that he understands how to use it, he will work on the course independently with varying success. This toy is screen-free and helps kids think through more complex ideas and instructions. I wonder why some adults say it’s challenging for them to use. Maybe our child is high-achieving, but I would highly recommend for any kid 4+ (ours is four and a half and has been using Botley successfully for months). No reading is required to enjoy Botley – remind your kids to clear the instructions (press the trashcan button) each time, or else Botley will build on the code previously given to him. That’s probably the only gem needed from the instruction manual. Otherwise, the arrows are self-explanatory, and the settings (Code/line/off) on Botley are too. (on “line,” Botley will simply follow a black line on the ground rather than follow instructions from the remote).

Our youngest grandson asked for Botley as a Christmas present. All year long, when asked what he wanted it was always, Nammaw I want a Botley like at school!! So he got his wish, it is his favorite thing to play with!! I would highly recommend this as an educational gift for any child in k-3 grade!! The only downside is there aren't many accessories for it at this time.

Kept my girls entertained for hours. They particularly liked some of the hidden features, which were very good.

Trs bon produit, les lves adorent et progressent bien. Par contre, on doit lancer les instructions au robot chacun notre tour car sinon les tlcommandes envolent les instructions tous les robots allums et proches. Dommage

Ho regalato questo gioco ed piaciuto molto. stato tuttavia difficoltoso il primo utilizzo perch, malgrado la legge italiana prescriva l’obbligo di istruzioni in italiano per gli oggetti venduti in Italia, le istruzioni in italiano non c’erano.
Mi permetto di suggerire ad Amazon di rimediare a questo inconveniente al pi presto per tutti i prodotti che commercializza in Italia!
After two days so far so good
So far so good. After two days we are having great fun with Botley. It was a gift for my five year old grandson and he is learning some of the functions. We re particularly enjoying Botley when he becomes a police car, dinosaur, frog etc. He is needing a lot of supervision from us and although he can manage simple coding he needs help following the instruction booklet.

My son goes to a STEAM school and he loves this! Actually we all do! He is 7, His sister is 3 and I am 42 and we all had fun with this. I let him take it to school and his class and teachers thought it was way better than the beebots they use at school.

Kids love this coding robo
Kids love to play the coding robot, especially the secret codes to turn it into ghost or shark. The instructions to move the robot and detect objects are really simple and can be combined to make complex programs. Recommend to kids age 3 and above.
My 6 year old loves this! He was so excited to get it as a gift. Easy to do and great instructions. Great beginner coding and worth the money!

Guter Lern-Roboter mit Spaß&Spiel
Sehr guter Lern-/Spiel-Roboter fr meine Tochter (4).
Man kann dem Roboter grundstzlich entweder als Linienfolger oder als Befehlsempfnger der Fernbedienung betreiben.
Als Linienfolger folgt er den schwarzen Linien auf den beiliegenden Karten mit kleinen Geruschen. Man kann auch mit dickem Edding etwas auf eine Tapete malen und der Roboter folgt. Ganz witzig.
Als Befehlsempfnger kann man zunchst einmal Sequenzen schicken und der Roboter folgt der Sequenz blind (z.B. 3x geradeaus, 45 Kurve links, 2x rckwrts…) . Das klappt gut, versteht auch meine Tochter.
Dann gibt es noch Schleifen (n mal wiederholen) und Wenn/Dann mit Objekterkennung. Bei letzterem springt er zu einer vordefinierten Sequenz, sobald er ein Hindernis erkennt. Das verstehen die ganz kleinen noch nicht, aber man kann trotzdem ganz lustige Sachen mit ihnen zusammen erstellen.
Als Zusatz gibt es noch ein paar Spamodi (Disco-Tanzmodus mit Farben-Sequenz) und ein paar Sachen wie Dino oder Frosch oder Polizei-Auto, die man ber eine bestimmte Sequenz erreicht (steht im Handbuch).
Insgesamt sehr lohnend, aber man muss als Erwachsener schon mitmachen. Ganz alleine gelassen entsteht wohl eher Frust bei den Kleinen..

Perfect for creative little problem solvers.
This little bot is awesome. My 5yo loves puzzles, legos, marble runs etc.
This toy is the perfect next level. Even if he just mashes buttons and watches it go he’s LOVING it. Endless options and skills to be built.
I rarely find a toy to be worth the money. But this is 100% awesome.
Only downside is batteries. I wish he was rechargeable.
A good starter toy to introduce kids to programming without screen. My 6 year old kid enjoys playing and learning with this . I create a new tasks for thik to move bot and he tries to solve it. It’s fun learning activity.

Cool and fun for what it does. 3 stars as mine does not work out of the box as intended as botley is unable to recognize the dark lines and follow them.

It took a little time to understand the manual, which is not that difficult. we revisited it many time and each time we would find more things to discover. Really a great product and a nice gift. a little pricy but it will impress.

My son initially passed this up in favour of other toys but once I showed him how it works and explained the concepts with the supplied cards he loved the challenge. He enjoyed finding the not so ‘secret codes’ too. There’s quite a lot of variety to be had with botley from maze style runs, ball capture, obstacle avoidance and multiple objectives for more challenging scenarios.
Whether this toy will stand the test of time remains to be seen, but as a means to get the kids away from the phone and tv right now it’s great !

My 5yo is moderately obsessed with robots, so I had to get him one of his own! He understood the idea of coding or programming only from watching shows/movies about robots, so coding is limited mostly to his patience/ attention span. This bot has a ton of features and can grow with my son for years!

I purchased this on whim when it was on 50% off before Christmas. Great investment!! My son and I have been setting up different mazes for him to practice. Great for kids working on organization, following steps, building imagination. Once we figured out a few goals together, I can be hands off while he experiments. Battery life has been good so far. Commands go up to 120 step. We love Botley!
