The Little Live Pets | Scruff-a-Luvs Cutie Cuts! Shave, Reveal and Style, Plush Rescue Pet – Purple Puppy (Purple Puppy) is an adorable adopted/rescued pet stuffed animal. When you first take it out of the packaging it looks pretty sad and uncared for. The hair is long and matted and it appears dirty. The included pet hair clippers help you groom the animal and reveal the adorable puppy under all the dirt and grime. It is actually pretty satisfying to clean up the little stuffed animal pup.

Only thing I didn’t like about it was the mound of fur that was just loose on it and just fell off when you open it. Makes a mess. Other than that is is really cute and my grand daughter loves to give it a bath, blow dry it and comb it. She is 4

My 8 year old twin girls loved this little plush toy. Very soft and fun that you can ‘shave’ the pup and then brush and style. You do have to get the plush wet after and let it dry. A little messy but the kids enjoyed it!

Ok so my 4 year old son saw this on TV and REALLY wanted it for Christmas. You only cut the puppy’s hair once, immediately after you open it. Once you remove the hair you can’t put it back on. This ended up being totally fine with him, but I could see how it could leave the consumer frustrated since this is advertised as a toy you can “style”.

It really looked bad coming out of the package. Some of the supposed to be hair was coming off in our hands. My daughter had to help my 6 year old Granddaughter with this. After it was completely groomed it was real a cute little stuffed pet if you just want another stuffed pet to sit around. It was a one time shave. My Grand liked it.

Also Tochter glcklich – was will man mehr.

The hair that needs to be shaved is just thrown on the pup. When we took the pup out of the box all the hair fell off so we put it back on and pretend shaved it. Of course I knew the shaver was fake but thought the hair was going to be better placed on the pup. This was still cute and fun!

Child loved it and was Santa gift. Only reason caved. As parent was not 100% impressed for a $40 stuffy and some accessaries. The hair yes you shave but you could pull off. The box was damaged at some point in packing so had to fix. Most of the box is designed to be used as a salon. Does not do much after first 10 min and half day drying. But glad they love it at very least.

Yes, this was one of the better toys in the recent “unboxing” hype. The “pet” itself is lovely, and “shaving” was fun. The “fur” does not go to waste either. There is a pillow case that will house those. Overall it was a nice addition for our young ones’ play quarters.

It shipped well and came in exciting packaging. There was no damage to any of the parts and nothing emitted any weird odors or chemical-like smells.

My daughter was pretty excited about this toy. We got to work on beautifying and revealing it right away. You will first see it as a hairy mass. You are meant to use the little clippers ( they don’t really clip) to pull the fur away. The clippers make a little buzzing sound and the teeth do catch the hair. Note the hair also just falls off pretty easily so you may end up using your hands to pull it away for the clippers as my child did.

After the fur is all off, you’ll then wash the toy with a gentle shampoo and warm water followed by combing its hair so it won’t be matted. It takes a while to get it to look really nice and what seemed like forever for it to dry before continued play.

The dog is less fluffy than hoped for. But my daughter does like painting its nails with the cute little cool water trigger nail polish feature.

Replayability has been okay. The experience to reveal, bathe and groom my child enjoyed.

Overall, it’s a fun adorable toy and we did enjoy our time together beautifying it.

I was skeptical about this toy….it seemed like it might always be a little ugly looking, but the shaving bit worked perfectly (because of the way the extra hair was on it, loose….the plastic clippers do NOT shave anything else, thank goodness, because the first thing my daughter tested was her own skin. After being shaved and washed and dried the toy really does look cute and my five-year-old daughter absolutely loves it and had a blast following all the steps. She even wants another one.

I got this for my niece and I to do together during a visit. She’s currently 5 and loves anything that is “surprise” and she loves activities that are done with adults around her. This ticks both of those boxes. If you have a kid who wants to do something like this on their own, you’d probably want them to be a little older. My niece is a tornado and makes a huge mess no matter what we are doing so for us it makes the most sense for it to be a together-activity.

This Little Live Pets Scruff-a-luvs is super fun for kids! My 6 year old really enjoyed “shaving” the dog. Obviously they are not real clippers and they are not really shaving, but the effect is the same for the kids!

The accessories are fun, though I would have liked to see a bit more sparkle and shine. While I love the concept, I do wish that they made the finished dogs cuter than they did. It looks like a super cheap stuffed animal when it’s all said and done. Price wise its not a bad price point in my opinion, and if I found it on sale I would totally buy more!

I really didn’t know what to expect with this little guy. It was both my granddaughter and my first time doing one of these puppies. I thought it would be a fun activity for us and just a neat toy to reveal.

So the puppy is in a little paper carrier. It’s is super furry and has a ton of purple fur covering it. The fur is not really attached but more semi stuck to the stuffed animal. The fur comes off easily just handling the puppy. Carrying him around or moving him and the fur will come off. The good news is that there is plenty of fur. Even if some is lost in the transition there is plenty for the little pillow at the end. I think using the fur to stuff the pillow is genius. I know my grandkids always like to keep ALL of the pieces that come in a toy. This allows them to keep the little fur as well.

So the clippers don’t actually remove the fur. They slightly vibrate and they could be scraped against the fur. My granddaughter did end up just pulling the fur off. It worked just as well and she ended up using the little clippers later on during her pretend play with the puppy. The fur is more of a dull purple color. It’s long and will eventually be the stuffing for the little bed for the puppy.

The next step after the shaving is the washing phase. We used baby body wash that I use for the kids bubble baths. It’s gentle so I figured it would be fine. We washed him in the sink which worked well because we could both easily work on the pup at a comfortable level. The water and soap soften the pups fur. Also any loose strands come off during this rinsing. The fur cleans very quickly so I just let her wash as much as she wanted. Also, because of the way the stuffed dog is made, it doesn’t absorb the water. At the end I did not have to squeeze water from the body. So there must be some casing to protect the inside stuffing. The water really was only in the fur.

After pups bubble bath we towel dried her. Then we got the hair dryer out. I started on the cool setting but ended up changing it to warm. I think the warm setting sped up that process. That was fun and one that an older child will surely enjoy. My younger granddaughter did it a little but really didn’t like the loud sound of the dryer so I finished the puppy up.

Meanwhile she was able to start opening the little hidden surprises in the paper dog grooming station. There were hair clips, combs, a nail polish bottle and a collar for the puppy. Everything is pretty self explanatory. The nail polish bottle really does have to be ice cold to work though. The nails are very large and easy to ‘paint’. Getting the right temperature is a pain and for a young child I wish it was easier.

I find that the puppy doesn’t sit up perfectly. Add the pillow and he’s even more tricky.

In the end, it feel like quite an activity. I think for the price, there is quite a lot offered. Not only is there a time investment but also an emotional one where the child gets to connect with the puppy through all the stages. This is a great toy and one we both enjoyed doing.

I didn’t think it was all that great. My daughter did enjoy the fake shaving part and giving the puppy a bath. The puppy looks nothing like the picture. It’s actually kind of ugly. I would not buy another one.

My daughters love Scruff-A-Luvs and this purple puppy is a great addition. If you aren’t familiar with Scruff-A-Luvs, essentially they come compressed down and your child washes them in water and they expand, then you let it dry out and it is a fluffy stuffed animal style toy. Yes, you could just buy a regular stuffed animal, but for whatever reason, kids really enjoy the process of getting them wet and drying them out to reveal the animal.

  58. ChristoGEQE says:

My daughter loves scruff-a-luvs–both revealing them, and playing with them long after the original reveal. This is her favorite one yet.

Be mindful opening the packaging, as you’ll want it intact both to get out the surprise accessories, and to reuse the fold-out interior box as a puppy salon setting toy. If you can help your kid so they don’t tear it open like an angry bear, the interior folds out to a little 3D salon station complete with cupboards and rug, and the little carrier box can be reused in play as well.

The toy itself is more like a modern stuffed animal than the others, which were more like homemade rag dolls (still cute, but a little vague). This one reminds me of those big-eye beanies you see everywhere, particularly in gift shops. It’s cute! And like the other scruff-a-luvs, very soft and cuddly.

In addition to starting out as a rumpled mystery ball you have to wash to identify, this one has the added feature of being covered with a layer of loose fur that you have to “shave” off before you wash it. When you open it, it’s a sort of a brightly colored, moulting fluff ball. The “shaver” with it’s electric sound effect, delighted my daughter, though I thought it was kind of dumb and a waste of a battery. After a few strokes, she started plucking off the fur, which was both faster and more effective.

Cleverly, the set included a little pillow case, which you stuff with all the fluff to make a dog bed! The outer fluff isn’t coated with the same starchy stuff you have to wash off the animal itself, so it doesn’t require washing, but can go straight into the pillow case.

With this model, you can better tell what it is before washing, as it’s not pressed into a tight ball. But to get it looking good (it still starts out matted and pathetic), it needs a good bath, my daughter’s favorite part of these toys. After that, it fluffs up nicely, even without blow-drying.

This one seemed to try faster than some, and it was very cute and stylable. The set also includes the little salon setting, assuming you opened the package carefully, and a handful of surprise accessories, including a comb and barrettes.

Scruff a Luvs have been hugely popular in our house . . . and then they became favorites in my nieces house. There is just something satisfying to the whole rescue a sticky ball of mess and wash it into a loveable stuffy that kids and adults can’t ignore.
This takes it to a whole new level. Not only do you get to wash your pet and dry (keep in mind, drying takes a while. Even with wringing it out, shaking it, and rolling it in a towel we still in the end resorted to a hair dryer) but now you get to use a vibrating “shaver” (which runs on 2 AA batteries) to STYLE your pup prior to washing. Just like a real dog . . . remove those matts and then wash them up. But in this case, the fur is put into a zipping bag to make a pillow for the pup to sit on.
You would think this would be a one and done toy . . . the box turns into a styling station with doors that open to reveal salon accessories. But you would be wrong. My kids have enjoyed pretending to style, and really wash, the dog repeatedly and it has held up well. Plus the nail changing does work repeatedly (just put a small icecube in the nail polish bottle.)
As a side note, I expected bald spots on the dog and there weren’t any.

We think this toy is a very creative product. Kids can play with a mimic small animal before they contact the real ones. Our kid is three years old. He was very excited about this toy, and very interested in shaving the furs off. Furs could be messy. Try to play it in a space which is easy to clean. There are also many tools and parts for kids to play with. They are good for kids’ motor skills.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSuper cute!

You trim the dogs hair with clippers, but already it’s already loose and they aren’t ‘real’ clippers. The cuttings are then used to fill a pillow for the pup, so cool it’s not just waste. The box is use re-usable as a case to carry it or open it up to be a hair salon set.

It’s also comes with a brush to dip in cold water and ‘paint’ the puppies nails.
Also comes with hair clips, I believe a straighter (maybe lol) and a collar

Super cute and addition for the scruffaluv lovers!

I love the idea and it’s fun opening this, shaving it and then giving it a wash afterwards to get all the hair off to reveal your dog. I just don’t think it look like a dog sort of a twist between a dog and a dinosaur especially with those toenails. 🙂 Did my daughter love this open this but it’s not her favorite stuffed animal since it’s not as cuddly as others we have.

I don’t care about the salon element of this toy, although your kids probably will. What I care about is the rescue element. I have seen multiple videos of dogs rescued from abysmal circumstances. A flea-ridden cowering filthy long-haired mutt is transformed into a healthy gorgeous companion. To me, this set encourages children to understand that such a transformation is possible. It teaches kindness and empathy, understanding and love for animals. It teaches that they don’t all start out salon perfect; sometimes, they need a hand.

I would have preferred if the set had come with medical implements for taking care of your pup instead of grooming supplies. But I’m very taken by the concept in general.

We’ll be using this pup in our PreK ESE classroom. I’ll report back if there are any issues. So far, everything looks good.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersAbsolutely adorable! Right out of the box it feels like you’re really getting a whole experience. The scruf-a-luvs of the past were basically : open package, wash dry, done. This new version is an investment and a great play experience. My 12 year old daughter helped me with the review and loved it.

    My feelings as a parent:
    – you get a lot in the box for the money.
    – for better or worse, this is not a quick experience. Impatient children will probably be asking mom or dad to finish the shaving which if done as intended takes quite a bit of time. Also, the dog does not dry quickly, we used a hair dryer to speed things up and hours later is still not completely dry – overnight wait to be expected.
Many of the items in the package can be reused in future play in addition to the plushie.
    – we had to use actual ice to change the nail color, cold water wasn’t cold enough to use with the “nail polish” applicator

    My daughter’s thoughts:
    – really fun
    – she felt like she was getting a real dog grooming like experience
    – she’s excited to reuse the “salon” again with other plushies – the cardboard setup was impressive to her for packaging
    – her main gripe was that she prefers the style of the older “flat bodied” scruffs, but still thought this one was very cute
    – the hair clips were a bit hard for her to “unclip”

All in all a great product, my daughter had a great time with it!

    Scruf-a-luv-able!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis review is for the Little Live Pets | Scruff-a-Luvs Cutie Cuts! The little ones in our family love “reveal” toys, all of which have different ways to discover the hidden treasures that are included. This particular Cutie Cuts reveal toy is a new one for us, and provides yet another reveal method that we have not experienced before.

It starts off as a really scruffy, matted looked puppy, and then the fun begins with the shave, wash, grooming and styling. It does not really “cut shave”, so you don’t have to worry about that part from a safety perspective. But it does offer the experience of cleaning up a puppy, and turning it into an adorable looking pet after carefully grooming it, and revealing what type of pup it is.

The set also comes with 8 grooming accessories, which can be used again and again for hours of imaginary fun. You only get to cut the hair one time, but you can still wash, groom, and stylize it several times. What’s interesting is that you actually use the cut pup hair to stuff a pillow that comes with the set. It also gives them the experience of “painting nails” on the pup, without having to worry about fingernail polish mess/accidents. The nails are heat sensitive and change colors with ice cold water. You just put that in the nail paint bottle, dip the brush in to the ice cold water, and then “paint” the nails.

Reveal fun, teaches how to groom a pet, and provides hours of imaginative play. Good choice for a reveal toy, and makes a great gift.

Love this new line as we loved the first ones. My daughter loves this and had a great time discovering what she got. Really enjoyed the surprise
